Pełny tekst źródłaOur analysis brings new understanding to the figure of “noble savage” in its historical evolution, its reconfigurations, then its scope contemporary media and society. The “noble savage” is the hero, despite himself, of wanderings of the human eco-imaginary faced with the adaptation of a Western society now obliged to better respect nature. However, we demonstrate that lies a neo-colonialist unthinking behind the respectable and good masks intentions around indigenous populations essentialized in a purity sphere. As such, we demonstrate that the heroization of certain figures(e.g. Raoni) can rely on active and problematic storytelling. The “noble savage” is so alive in the 21st century, showing up in cinema (e.g. Avatar) and in political speeches, it becomes a meta-marker of the evolution of our Western culture. Its popularity since the stories of the first explorers is reinvented therefore on our screens. Consistently, our main corpus extends from the end of the 20th century to the present day with a cultural studies methodology. We have selected a dozen pieces of content on the “savage”/“noble savage”, a selection by their popularity and durability in collective memory

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study examines polyphonic enunciation in online writings, focusing on that which arises from and is induced by interactions on YouTube during the Amazon rainforest wildfires. After presenting the context and the concepts and theories related to polyphony, it proposes a methodological framework for analyzing polyphony that first captures the role of techno-semiotic, socio-economic, and psychosociological aspects of YouTube in polyphony, and then interrogates this polyphony at the level of other media actors mentioned from YouTube. This allows us to identify consistencies and changes in polyphonic configurations during our observation period and to show how these polyphonic configurations during the Amazon rainforest wildfires could be influenced by exogenous contextual variables. We also observe power dynamics when this polyphony is used as a strategy by various media actors involved in the social controversy surrounding the Amazon rainforest wildfires. This study complements previous research on editorial enunciation in screen writings by considering polyphony at both the network actors’ level and the argumentation level

Pełny tekst źródłaEnvironment problems are many in Brazil however they take on a major importance in the Amazon basin, especially with the "Grande Carajas Project" (PGC) of which the "Companhia Vale do Rio Doce" company is the leader. A "US steel" subsidiary was looking for manganese, in that Amazon region when a helicopter crash landing les Bruno Augusto dos Santos to the discovery of the world's biggest open reserve of iron ore. 27000 workers were to set up the Carajas Program in 1982 and it is estimated that more than 500000 mine workers now operate in the Amazon forest. According to the Environment Institute of Brazil IBAMA "when iron ore is important, then there is a special vegetal stratum called "canga", and on top of it grows the typical metalophylic forest, of Carajas" which was to disappear with mining. No rigorous study having been done, mining has led to deforestation and pollution that the Brazilian Institute of Socio Economical Studies IBASE has confirmed. This theoretical study deals with PGC-CVRD socio environmental impact in Amazon, by exploring strategies, policies and relationships of Indians with towns and forests. The inquiry shows social and ecological imbalance as the consequences mainly fall on poorer people, mine workers and landless peasants. We listen to the main "actors" among Indians, elected representatives, trade unions and rural leaders as well as Federal administration, and Parauapebas City hall. I have studied the Privatization of PGC

Pełny tekst źródłaThe growth of livestock production and the deforestation processes have not clear explications, in the eastern Amazon region. How the livestock marketing chain is driving the spatial organization of the pioneer frontiers in this region ? About this question, the author first develops a functional analysis of the livestock marketing chain. The systemic approach is useful to understand the complexity of the relations between actors, and to analyse the influences of every commercialization channel on the individual and collective strategies. In a second time, the author analyses how the marketing channels and integrated in the spatial system of pioneer's areas, and how they drive his evolution. He obtains two kinds of results : comprehension of the mechanisms for interaction between livestock marketing chains and pioneer territories, three tools for monitoring the territorial development of the pioneer areas

Pełny tekst źródłaWe decided to study the history of the indigenous populations of Northwestern Amazonia from the beginning of the XVIIth century till mid XVIIIth century. More precisely, we analyzed the role and the evolution of the Indian chiefdoms in the double context of interethnic relations and European colonial enterprises. During this period, the great European powers – France, England, Holland, Spain and Portugal – strove for increasing their colonial possessions in South America. That is why with the beginning of the conquest of American lands, on one side we can observe that political conflicts opposing the great powers in Europe are exported into the colonized areas. On the other side, Portuguese missionaries systematically developed catechizing villages among native populations in order to promote Portuguese colonization and a first urbanization of the Amazon Valley. All these interventions took advantage of political networks, inner hierarchies and power positions existing among native societies before the arrival of the Europeans. As a matter of fact, missions and military expeditions provoked continuous wars transforming Indian chiefdoms into preferential mediators

Pełny tekst źródłaDuring the last few decades, malaria has affected the lives of many people in the most impoverished regions of the world. In some regions, like the Amazon Region, this has also been a period of major social and environmental change. The State of Roraima, Brazil, has had to accept significant streams of migrants arriving mostly from the north-east of Brazil. As a result, the number of malaria cases has exploded. The main purpose of this work is to enlighten the dynamics of those environmental and social factors, as well as those linked with public policies, related to the evolution of Malaria in Roraima. The work uses Remote Sensing and GIS technologies, as well as a method to analyse spatial-temporal dynamics. The main results show that environmental factors, mainly related to the dynamics of the vector, have an influence at the local scale; social factors (population dynamics and cultures), play out more at middle scale; and public policy factors have an influence at regional scale

Pełny tekst źródłaIn contrast with southern Andean retro-foreland basins, which are characterized by continental sedimentation, tidal sedimentation was the rule in the Amazonian foreland basin during the Miocene. At this time, the Amazonian foreland basin is considered as "filled". Incipient tectonic loading was responsible for Late Miocene tidal transgression. In the Pliocene times, tectonic loading increased as a result of eastward thrust-propagation causing an increase in elevation and relief creation. Successive uplifts of the Iquitos flexural forebulge played a considerable role in the establishment of the modern Amazon drainage system by enhancing subsidence and separating an Andean drainage from a cratonic drainage system. The Amazonian drainage network is no younger than the Pliocene

Pełny tekst źródłaThe amazonian quaternary environmental history is still poorly known. Paleoecological data are scarce and extrapolations of long paleoclimatic reconstructions based on pollen evidence alone seems inadequate to give a picture of the recent Quaternary changes for the entire Amazon basin. Our multidisciplinary approach intends to bring some new evidences of the quaternary landscape evolution of the northern portion of the Amazon basin. The study on relict linear eolian dunes bordering the Rio Negro River and some tributaries, indicates a past drier climate regime during the Pleistocene - Holocene transition. Here we present thermoluminescence ages spanning the period of 32,000 B. P. The final dune stabilization took place after 8,000 B. P. At present, the dunes are fixed by vegetation. Closely, the Itui Lake pollen core provides a synthesis of Holocene vegetation dynamics between 9,580 and 6,500 BP. Fluvial sediment cores spanning 55 000 to 37 000 BP were obtained from six terraces (Aracá and Cuieiras rivers) on the Rio Negro basin. Plant macrofossil records indicate that before 5̃5 000 B. P. , lowland areas were covered by a vegetation mosaic similar to the present one. After 55 000 BP the hydrological systems are marked by the installation of a more seasonal climate and the alluvial deposits have a strong asymmetrical shape if compared with the present depositional conditions. The lowermost unit consists of 2-3m of interbedding of fine to medium gravelly massive or cross-stratified sand and lenticular bodies of massive or cross-stratified sandy gravel with very fine to coarse pebbles. This facies unit was deposited in a sand gravel braided system perhaps associated to more drier and seasonal sort of climate. These results argue against the current opinions of absence of drastic ecological changes in the Amazon LGS. As a consequence, debate concerning the ecological consequences of Amazonian aridity in terms of biogeography and biodiversity needs to be reopened

Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis that we propose starts from the idea that questioning of the spatial dimension of tourism would be a way to understanding the transformations of the geographical places and societies that surround them. Concentrating the focus on the upper Brazilian Amazon, reveals us one of the most diversified, complex and attractive biome for the human curiosity, and which is also the region with the least touristic flows of Brazil. This paradox forces us to analyze this part of the globe for its specificities, but as it is also a part of a whole, we are led to adopt a systematic approach of the tourism. Our goal will be to analyze interactions between different actors of the upper Brazilian Amazon and it creates touristic places. Thus, two major questionings will be the guideline to follow throughout our reasoning. Firstly, how did the Amazonian places become touristic over the time? and secondly, how the actions of the actors stimulate the transformation of the Amazonian touristic places? This is the reason why we propose an empirical and pragmatic reading of the tourist phenomenon based on different geographical scales. Changing the distance and the angle of the observation will be the method used to confront the various representations of the actors around the tourism development. The multiple view on the intentions of the local populations, travelers' flows, as well as those led by the politics and economics actors, makes us think about the geographical specificities: the organization of an unstructured space, with lower population density, but with a strong presence of social and environmental resources and in the process of integration into a world tourist space

Pełny tekst źródłaSamples of sediments, rocks, fish and human hair from the Bolivian Amazon basin, where gold-mining is active for decades, have been analysed by MC-ICPMS to study the stable isotopes fractionations of Hg. Evidence of mass-dependent (MDF) and mass-independent (MIF) fractionation have been observed in hair and fish samples. MIF is induced by photochemical reactions of Hg(II) and monomethylmercury (MMHg) in surface waters and MDF is observed only during the MMHg bioaccumulation process in organisms. Isotopic balance of Hg is improved thanks to sediments and rocks data showing a weak input of mercury by chemical weathering but significant atmospheric depositions of Hg(0) on soils. These first results obtained in hair and at a regional scale confirm that the stable isotopes of Hg constitute a powerful tool to trace biogeochemical processes and to evaluate mercury sources in living organisms

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this thesis called "chinese media in the world". Mrs liao gives us a general description of media in red china and in geographic zones where we may find a chinese diaspora. First of all, mrs liao shows that television has became a massmedia because 800 millions people watch in spite of a real mediocity of its programs. As to the radio, this media is both very common and regionalised and it has been the main factor of the unification of china. Concerning the written press, it has to face the concurence of foreign papers because it has definitively lost. Its image, being a plain propaganda instrument for the c. C. P. Concerning taiwan, hong kong, macao and singapore ad all the chinese media in the other parts of the world, mrs liao writes an analysis which consists a very pragmatic description of quantitative and qualitative factors as : number of titles, number of readers, audience, explained opinions, maintenance of lectorate, radio and television programs. . . In the second part of her thesis of doctorate, mrs liao delivers us an approach of the history of chinese media. She peculiazly shows that chinese papers have been existing since ancient times but began in fact to european like at the end of the 19th century. At the end of the second part we have the description of the characteristics of marxist media after 1949, and of the consequences of the opening of china to occidental countries in 1978. At least in the third part, are described the various problems the chines media have to face today. At the same time mrs liao insists on the political and cultural specificities of all media in contiental china

Pełny tekst źródłaThis work consists in studying the linguistic defreezing phenomenon. We establish three typologies of studying cases chosen from the French satirical weekly newspaper "Le Canard enchaîné". The typologies are made in three parts. The first typology is of structuralism, the second one consists in classifying the defreezing cases by transformations, the last one is a typology of three primary functions of predication. In doing so, we propose different linguistic approaches in treating the problematical defreezing phenomenon, which causes problems in teaching, comprehension and computational linguistic treatment in French

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis analyzes what remains constant and what changes in the image of Syria in the French media between the 18th century and the year 2000. This image divides in two: on the one hand, a mythic “imaginary” in literature and, on the other, a mediatized image in the print and visual press. The so-called mediatized image centers on a repressive representation of Syria under French mandate in L'Humanite and Le Figaro in 1939, date at which the sandjak of Alexandrette ceased in Turkey. Then the thesis traces the evolution of this image through the study of the cultural image of Syria in the newspaper Le Monde between 1987 and 1999. The end point of my work on the mediatized image consists of a study of the visual image or Syria on the channel Arte between 1996 and 2000. To conclude this thesis, I study the literary mythic image of Syria and the Arab world in Volney, “Voyage en Syrie et en Egypte,” Maupassant in “Allouma” and Le Clezio in “Poisson d'Or. ”
M'Hamsadji, Takia. "L'image de l'Orient arabe dans les médias américains". Paris 7, 1987. http://www.theses.fr/1987PA070177.
Pełny tekst źródłaThe aim of this study is to determine the characteristics of the arab stereotype in the american media and its development since the creation of the state of israel in particular. The negative image of the arab world is presented here as the inheritance of orientalism and european colonialism combined with a historical context. The arab-israeli conflict and the oil embargo have brought about a series of "misunderstandings" that strenghened the old fear of islam. The technological advance and the reign of the elctronic era have promoted the propagation of the myth of the orient and enforced an erroneous aspect of the arab civilization and history. Beyond the fixed stage of categorization and prevailing ideology, a new journalism and an awakening of the american public opinion in relation to the american policy towards the middle east have emerged since the 1970, s. This new approach is linked to a better understanding of economic and cultural interdependence between the arab nations and the united states, and to the work of a better organized arab lobby eager to cope with its jewish counterpart. The arab governments and the arab americans have set up a solid organizational structure with thye object of locating and demolishing the arab negative stereotype through an active policy of information on the arab world and an exhaustive use of teh american media. The economic prosperity of the arab orient has allowed a greater pressure to be exerted on the western countries. . .

The research has been done because of the small knowledge of the architectural vocabulary and the lack of understanding of the significance of architecture by most people. By working around thrée principal types of medias : text supports (books, magaznies and e-books), audiovisuals (the radio, the television and the cinema) and the interactif medias (networks, CD-Roms and interactif points) the presence of the subject "architecture " is analyzed in a vast corpus. A close look at the educational role that the medias should play is done by running an analysis of the sort and the amount of architectural knowledge that is transmitted and the advantages and inconvenients of the informationnal supports used

Pełny tekst źródłaAs part of this thesis in Sociology, this presents a study on the social and environmental context of Brazilian Amazon, by taking as a problematic the participation of the social fields in the process of sustainable development in this region of Brazil. The research has also highlighted the importance of the Environment Sociology for the study of contemporary issues such as those concerning the society and the relationship with the environment. This dimension of the man and the nature is strong in this region that is still considered as an exotic place by the presence of its tropical forest, wich became a symbol of the international environmentalist cause. Nevertheless, the chapter of the thesis also introduce the major problems wich exist in the social context of the Brazilian Amazon. The NGOs field also participates with the power relations that are established around this emerging theme of the sustainable development to the Brazilian Amazon, by some social factors wich are relevant to be approached, such as : its interaction with local actors and the presence of its symbolic power that can legitimize its actions. The case studies present the interaction between social actors for some projects and actions for sustainable development in the Amazon

Pełny tekst źródłaOur thesis concerns the colonization of the Brazilian Amazon from the second half of the 20th century, especially the differentiation between settlers, according to their geographical origin. One hypothesis is the existence of a socio-cultural permanence built over time, which would last once the migrants settled on their new plots. The other hypothesis is the major role of public policies in migration and this differentiation. Four groups of migrants were identified according to their regions of origin: Nordestins, Paulists, Mineiros, Southerners or Gauchos. Each group having built its own set of characteristics throughout its history, the first part of the thesis analyzes in the history of Brazil and diverse explanatory elements of these specificities. The second part of the thesis describes the migration trajectories for each group/its specificities and the comparative analysis of the migration trajectories as well as the public policies that have induced a differentiation in the migration trajectories and therefore influenced the permanence of the specificities. It shows that throughout Brazil's history, public policies have favored both migration and differences between groups of migrants, thus confirming this hypothesis. On the other hand, if the socio- cultural permanence of migrant groups persists during migration and then during the first years of settlement, it diminishes in a few years, in connection with the convergence of the lifestyles of settlers from different groups, in particular in connection with schooling and having built its own set of characteristics throughout its history, the first part of the thesis analyzes in the history of Brazil and diverse explanatory elements of these specificities

Pełny tekst źródła62 non-interpreter participants and 7 interpreter participants listened to 16 different extracts of interpretations that had been initially broadcast either on TV or on the web. The participants commented and rated these recordings. Non-interpreters’ comments tend to show that the interpretation “works”, i.e. it seems to carry the speaker’s message across and does not constitute an obstacle. Comments tend to focus on form rather than content. Non-interpreters seem to pay attention to quality parameters which already feature in the literature (in particular intonation and fluidity) but also to some (supra)parameters which have rarely been studied so far: the balance between the sound levels of the original speech and its interpretation; the way the speaker is portrayed through the interpretation; and the way emotion in the source speech is conveyed in the interpretation. None of the individual parameters identified in the present study turned out to have a clear-cut, major influence on overall quality assessment. The present thesis studies not only individual quality parameters but also interactions between them. In particular, perceptions of form and content seem to be closely linked, and listeners’ trust seems to be determined by a number of both form- and content-related parameters. Some differences between the two groups of participants emerge. Interpreters seem more sensitive to wording. False errors were flagged up only by non-interpreters. Non-interpreters seem to listen to the speaker’s message first and foremost; their reactions to the interpretation itself tend to come later, if at all

Pełny tekst źródłaFluctuating along user connections, some content succeeds at capturing the attention of a large amount of users and suddenly becomes trending. Understanding trending content and its dynamics is crucial to the explanation of opinion spreading, and to the design of social marketing strategies. While previous research has mostly focused on trending content and on the network structure of individuals in social media, this work complements these studies by exploring in depth the human factors behind the generation of this content. We build upon this analysis to investigate new personalization tools helping individuals to discover interesting social media content. This work contributes to the literature on the following aspects: an in depth analysis on individuals who create trending content in social media that uncovers their distinguishing characteristics; a novel means to identify trending content by relying on the ability of special individuals who create them; a mechanism to build a recommender system to personalize trending content; and techniques to improve the quality of recommendations beyond the core theme of accuracy. Our studies underline the vital role of special users in the creation of trending content in social media. Thanks to such special users and their ``wisdom'', individuals may discover the trending content distilled to their tastes. Our work brings insights in two main research directions - trending content in social media and recommender systems

Pełny tekst źródłaThe ease of publishing content on social media sites brings to the Web an ever increasing amount of user generated content captured during, and associated with, real life events. Social media documents shared by users often reflect their personal experience of the event. Hence, an event can be seen as a set of personal and local views, recorded by different users. These event records are likely to exhibit similar facets of the event but also specific aspects. By linking different records of the same event occurrence we can enable rich search and browsing of social media events content. Specifically, linking all the occurrences of the same event would provide a general overview of the event. In this dissertation we present a content-based approach for leveraging the wealth of social media documents available on the Web for event identification and characterization. To match event occurrences in social media, we develop a new visual-based method for retrieving events in huge photocollections, typically in the context of User Generated Content. The main contributions of the thesis are the following : (1) a new visual-based method for retrieving events in photo collections, (2) a scalable and distributed framework for Nearest Neighbors Graph construction for high dimensional data, (3) a collaborative content-based filtering technique for selecting relevant social media documents for a given event

Pełny tekst źródłaAssuming on the fact that the analysis of the interactions between social movements and media, however essential to the comprehension of the processes of social problems construction, was until now a peripheral object of interest, this work proposes to deal with these problems starting from the study of the relations between “low resources groups” and TV journalists. On the basis of pluri-methodological and comparative ground investigations, this dissertation proposes to question the forms of mediatic politisation or depolitization of the homeless persons, the illegals immigrants and the unemployed people causes, in the context of the neoliberal and repressive evolutions of the Welfare state. While applying from a critical point of view the framing analysis perspective, this research opens with a range of topics returning as well to the contemporary transformations of the practices of journalism or the militancy as to the effects of media information on the audience

Pełny tekst źródłaThe multiculturalism which characterises Lebanese advertising in the written press, is a mixture of Lebanese identity (innately Arabic) with distinctive western influences. This advertising conveys symbols belonging to Lebanese culture as well as those understood worlwide. The usage is mainly French, to a lesser extent English and rather less Arabic. It therefore mirrors the multilingual capability of Lebanese citizens. In eliminating social, cultural and religious differences, it reflects an image solely of an upper class. It displays a westernised style of living as much as a Lebanese one, while showing characters and settings with specific Lebanese reference. Given the particular wording of lebanese advertisements, a dialectic is established between that language and the universal language used for publicity

Pełny tekst źródłaRecourse to established, illustrative and idiomatic expressions is a standard feature of journalistic discourse on television. The use of phrasemes is text-sort specific and provides added thematic reference to the relevant topic under discussion. In television journalism, the bilingual, French-German public affairs program Arte-Info is exceptional due to a particular feature of its journalistic format. Individual images are accompanied by to sound and, above all, linguistic tracks. Given this bilingual quality, variuos issues related to the program's inter-lingual format arise (translation and interpreting procedure, source and target language, orientation toward two linguistic communities, etc. ). What effects do these factors have on the production of the linguistic discourse? This study has been organized according to three parameters of analysis: parameter one concerns the specifics of the various sorts of texts; parameter two is addressed to the framing context of the entire discourse; the third parameter deals with the specifics of thematic reference

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis studies the discourses and the strategies of the media when reporting armed conflicts. The comparison between the Israeli-Palistinian and the Northern-Irish conflicts enable us to analyze the nature of the discourses produced by the political actors and by the media, and to foresee their potential evolution with the development of the internet. In situations of armed crisis, State and media logics tend to tighten in the name of a democratic consensus against the authors of the violence. However, the media representations sometimes get loose from the official discourse of the State, in order to keep the freedom of information. This alternative must be rethought with the broadening of the use of the internet by various actors of the conflicts. The specificity of its technical device invites the actors of the conflicts to seize this media in discursive logics, if not new, at least different from those of the traditional media. The hypertextual and multimodal nature of the discourses which the political actors offer on internet thus implies to rethink the discursive strategies, traditionally in work, and the connections between media and actors in the situations of conflict

Pełny tekst źródłaSince the 1960s we have witnessed an internal process of marginalization of shamans (iwishin) as a consequence of a reorganization of the Awajun people due to the presence of missionaries’ schools and the foundation of native communities (comunidades nativas). Since the presence of the iwishin has created intra and intercommunal conflicts, most of them are killed or forced to leave their communities. Nevertheless, accusations of witchcraft in the villages persist. Political rivalry, competition for economic resources, inequality caused by trade, and factional hostility stirred up by the various religious orders all add to the tensions caused by the violation of marriage laws. These conflicts often lead neighbors to accuse each other of witchcraft. In fact, only the permanent banishment of the supposed shaman can ease the internal tension in the community at least temporarily. The city seems to be the only refuge for the “condemned witches”. For this reason, Santa Maria de Nieva, the capital of the province of Condorcanqui, has been progressively “invaded” by tens of Awajuns who can no longer live in their communities. On the other hand, the constant interaction between native

Pełny tekst źródłaIn France, neo-liberalism became dominant in the political sphere in the early 1980s. However, to the defender of neo-liberalism, there is still one last goal : to get public opinion to endorse neo-liberalism as well. The general media, which is able to influence our perceptions and our preferences, can play an important role in that respect. This thesis presents four monographs analyzing the media's discourse on neo-liberalism in the past two decades: the first monographs analyzing the media's discourse on neo-liberalism in the past two decades : the first monograph treats of the media coverage of the Paris Mont Pèlerin meeting in 1984; the second monograph deals with the way the French newspaper "Le Monde" covered the bicentennial of the French Revolution between 1987 and 1989; the third monograph examines the same newspaper's coverage of the opening up of France Telecom's capital in 1997; finally, the last monograph looks at the way "Les Grandes Gueules", a radio show broadcasted on RMC, elaborated a neo-liberalism discourse over the fall of 2006

Pełny tekst źródłaSocial media have greatly modified the way we produce, diffuse and consume information, and have become powerful information vectors. The goal of this thesis is to help in the understanding of the information diffusion phenomenon in social media by providing means of modeling and analysis.First, we propose MABED (Mention-Anomaly-Based Event Detection), a statistical method for automatically detecting events that most interest social media users from the stream of messages they publish. In contrast with existing methods, it doesn't only focus on the textual content of messages but also leverages the frequency of social interactions that occur between users. MABED also differs from the literature in that it dynamically estimates the period of time during which each event is discussed rather than assuming a predefined fixed duration for all events. Secondly, we propose T-BASIC (Time-Based ASynchronous Independent Cascades), a probabilistic model based on the network structure underlying social media for predicting information diffusion, more specifically the evolution of the number of users that relay a given piece of information through time. In contrast with similar models that are also based on the network structure, the probability that a piece of information propagate from one user to another isn't fixed but depends on time. We also describe a procedure for inferring the latent parameters of that model, which we formulate as functions of observable characteristics of social media users. Thirdly, we propose SONDY (SOcial Network DYnamics), a free and extensible software that implements state-of-the-art methods for mining data generated by social media, i.e. the messages published by users and the structure of the social network that interconnects them. As opposed to existing academic tools that either focus on analyzing messages or analyzing the network, SONDY permits the joint analysis of these two types of data through the analysis of influence with respect to each detected event. The experiments, conducted on data collected on Twitter, demonstrate the relevance of our proposals and shed light on some properties that give us a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying information diffusion. First, we compare the performance of MABED against those of methods from the literature and find that taking into account the frequency of social interactions between users leads to more accurate event detection and improved robustness in presence of noisy content. We also show that MABED helps with the interpretation of detected events by providing clearer textual description and more precise temporal descriptions. Secondly, we demonstrate the relevancy of the procedure we propose for estimating the pairwise diffusion probabilities on which T-BASIC relies. For that, we illustrate the predictive power of users' characteristics, and compare the performance of the method we propose to estimate the diffusion probabilities against those of state-of-the-art methods. We show the importance of having non-constant diffusion probabilities, which allows incorporating the variation of users' level of receptivity through time into T-BASIC. We also study how -- and in which proportion -- the social, topical and temporal characteristics of users impact information diffusion. Thirdly, we illustrate with various scenarios the usefulness of SONDY, both for non-experts -- thanks to its advanced user interface and adapted visualizations -- and for researchers -- thanks to its application programming interface

Pełny tekst źródłaWe will try all along this thesis to lift the veil on the vague aspects of a complex industry: medias, in a country with an even more complex political and economic environment: China. After defining de concept of media convergence, we will see what are its different forms in the Middle Kingdom in comparison with Western countries. We will explain the reasons why China is naturally taking its own path and not necessarily following the Western models, especially in the media industry. We will then show how the convergence influences one industry in particular: the film industry; how all the links of the value chain from investment to production and distribution are affected by the constant evolution of the new media technologies and how they merge with each other. By reviewing the different laws and other instructions that are supposed to rule the film media industry, but also by analyzing the complex flows between China and the rest of the world that the government tries to control, we will show how much is at stake in this huge market. We will present the main actors of this convergence in China comparing them particularly with the American giant Netflix. How these internet giants transform today’s film industry? This is the question we will try to answer all along this research

We can note the coming of the globalisation of the media. The main problem is not the increase of information, but to realise and admit that those industries of communication manage the vision of the world and can not be separate of a reflexion about the way they are received. The control of this ideogical machenery made up by the media have a political effect. The resolution of wars and conflicts depends more than never on information and communication control. The media becomes a real actor of the international relation. Our study deals mainly about the gulf war in 1991 which should leads us to a deep relexion on what was previously considered

Pełny tekst źródłaIn our study we survey Al Jazeera arabic news television and its relationship with the Qatari Government, which finances it. Our problem is to prove “to what extent Al Jazeera has introduced Qatar on the international scene, and in this situation can this channel still be objective?” In this regard, we have double goals: The first one consists to demonstrate that Al Jazeera was a part of the qatari audiovisual strategy. The second is to explain the convergence between the editorial line of Al Jazeera and the qatari policy. In this thesis, we illustrate the coexistence between editorial independence and economic dependence, while Qatar supports the auto-financing of Al Jazeera. Certainly, the Qatari channel is not independent but has a large margin of freedom. The Qatari interference in Al Jazeera passes through the chairman of the channel, who is a member of the ruling family. The actors of Al Jazeera estimate their interventions as a professional supervision. We consider that Al Jazeera fight to preserve the profession of journalism with its perception of the “Original Journalism”. This research implies the relationship between the news and the history, explaining that the content of the Al Jazeera broadcasting was a strategic way for Qatar to balance its media strengths with the United States. It describes that the programs of Al Jazeera reflect the qatari views within a limit of objectivity and professionalism
