Several studies have been undertaken in the past to analyse consumption behaviour in Pakistan. These studies have ranged from the fairly simple single equation estimations to complex, extended linear expenditure systems and analyses based on the Almost Ideal Demand System. These included the studies by Aziz-ur Rehman (1%3); Bussink (1970); Ranis (1961); Khan (1970); Ali (1981, 1986); Malik (1982); Siddiqui (1982); Mukhtar (1985); Cheema and Malik (1985); Ahmad et al (1986); and Alderman (1987). Most of these studies are based on the Household Income and Expenditure Survey data. These Surveys provide the single most important source of data on consumption behaviour in Pakistan. However, the analysis in the studies mentioned above are generally confined to single years only. The present study is an attempt to econometrically establish the existence, or otherwise, of rural-urban differences in consumption behaviour in each year for the years in which these survey data are available in published form. 1 Tests are also conducted on appropriately deflated data to establish the existence or otherwise of differences in yeady functions. The former hypothesis has obvious implications for the possibility of estimating overall, or Pakistan-level functions, while the latter has obvious implications for estimating marginal propensities or elasticities based on time-series data.

The econometric analysis of demand in Pakistan has, until recently, been a relatively neglected field of analysis. Much of the earlier work, reviewed in Ali (1985), consists of linear Engel curves based on grouped data published by the Bureau of Statistics. Ahmad, Leung and Stern (1984), and Ahmad, Ludlow and Stern (1987) use household observations from the 1976 Micro-Nutrient Survey (MNS), to estimate 17 (9 of which are food items) and 13 commodity parameters and elasticities based on a modified linear Expenditure System (LES) using Maximum likelihood methods. The modified LES is a method of obtaining LES parameters without independent price information, analogous to the ELES. This method differs from the ELES in that expenditure information is used, rather than income, see Ahmad, Ludlow and Stern (1987) for details.

Despite being shaken by the Arab Spring, authoritarian structures still exist in the regions of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Th is situation highlights the importance of studying the continuity of authoritarian structures more comprehensively. In addition to approaches that reduce authoritarianism to intra-state factors, literature has developed over the last decade emphasizing the importance of international factors. This literature in particular emphasizes the politics, economics, and diplomacy established by the West and that ties are effective in the continuity of authoritarianism in non-Western countries. This study attempts to explain Ben Ali’s period and the continuity of authoritarianism in Tunisia in the context of this developing new literature. Although Tunisia underwent a relatively positive transformation process after the Arab Spring, Ben Ali’s authoritarian rule was supported by the West as a model of an economic miracle and democratic stability; this administration managed to survive for 23 years. The study’s main argument can be expressed as follows: While the economic liberalization process imposed on Tunis by Western actors caused an increase in socio-economic inequalities, the instrumentalization of democracy by the West again served to suppress civil and political freedoms. Instead of focusing on the obstacles and opportunities in front of the transition to democracy in the post-Arab Spring period, examining theinternational factors influencing the continuity of authoritarianism in the Ben Ali period will shed light on how authoritarian structures still survive in MENA.

India accounts 18.5% of the world milk production and ranked first in milk production. Buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) produce 54% of total milk production of India. However, mastitis remains the most expensive production disease of the buffaloes. The present study was based on the lactation records of Murrah buffaloes maintained at Cattle and Buffalo Breeding Farm of LPM Section, ICAR-Indian veterinary research institute, Izatnagar over a period of 10 years (2005–2014). The aim of present study was to find best fitted lactation model explaining the lactation behaviour of Murrah buffaloes in healthy and mastitis condition. The data consisted of 80068 daily test day milk yield records of 296 Murrah buffaloes. Different standard lactation curve models such as Ali and Schaeffer (1987), Cobby and Le Du (1978), Sikka (1950), Mitscherlich × Exponential (Rook et al. 1993), Mixed log (Guo and Swalve 1995), Wilmink (1987) and Wood (1967) models were fitted by Proc NLIN Procedure of SAS 9.3. The goodness of fit was judged by the high value of R2 adj and low value of MSPE, AIC and BIC. Durbin-Watson test was used to test autocorrelation and Shapiro-Wilk’s test and Kolmogorov Smirnov test was used to test the normality of the residuals. Based on the analysis of the data Ali and Schaeffer model was the best fitted model to explain the lactation behaviour of the healthy as well as mastitic Murrah buffaloes.

Résumé Kouaouci (Ali). - Tendances et facteurs de la natalité algérienne entre 1970 et 1986 La population algérienne a connu un taux d'accroissement naturel excédant 3% par an et, cela, pendant plus de vingt ans, entre 1966 et 1987, ce qui a fait quasiment doubler sa taille de 12 à 23 millions. Durant cette période, à partir de 1970, la natalité a décliné mais à un rythme moins rapide que la mortalité. Ce n'est qu'en 1985-86 que des signes de ralentissement de la croissance ont été observés. Utilisant les données de 1970 (ÉSNP) et de 1986 (ENAF), cet article s'attache à mettre en évidence l'impact des facteurs de la natalité (structure, proportions de mariées et fécondité légitime) et des variables intermédiaires de la fécondité (allaitement, contraception et avortement/stérilité) dans les différences de niveaux et de tendances observées entre secteurs d'habitat et entre 1970 et 1986.

This study aims to provide an overview of the life journey and progress of Ali Mukhni from a teacher and his role in leading Padang Pariaman Regency as a Deputy Regent and Regent for 15 years. The author is interested in taking Ali Mukhni's character to write his biography because he has had a career in Padang Pariaman Regency for 15 years and during that time Ali Mukhni has contributed a lot to the progress of Padang Pariaman Regency. For this reason, the first step is to collect data from oral and written sources. The second stage is source criticism, both internal and external sources. Next, the third stage is data analysis and interpretation. Finally, the fourth stage is to describe the results of research in the form of scientific writing in accordance with the rules of historical research. The conclusion of this study is that Ali Mukhni is a character from Pauh Village, Padang Pariaman Regency. Ali Mukhni started his career as a sports teacher in 1982-1987 at SMA 1 Teluk Kuantan, in 1988-1995 STM Negeri Bengkulu, in 1995-2000 SMA Negeri 10 Padang,in 2000-2004 SMAN 1 V Koto Kampung Dalam. Ali Mukhni also served as Deputy Regent in 2005-2010 for five years. Until finally Ali Mukhni served as Regent of Padang Pariaman for two terms until his retirement. Ali Mukhni had many roles for Padang Pariaman Regency.

Résumé Kouaouci (Ali). - Essai de reconstitution de la pratique contraceptive en Algérie durant la période 1967-1987 L'enquête nationale algérienne sur la fécondité (ENAF) est la première enquête de grande envergure ayant permis de mesurer l'extension de la pratique contraceptive dans les divers groupes de la population algérienne distingués par l'âge, la durée du mariage, le nombre d'enfants déjà nés, l'habitat, etc. Mais, en outre, quelques questions rétrospectives sur la pratique au cours des divers intervalles entre naissances permettent de retracer la diffusion de ces comportements au fil du temps et d'en préciser les intentions (arrêt ou espacement). On voit alors comment cette dynamique a anticipé sur la reconnaisance politique de l'intérêt d'une régulation des naissances et s'est installée en dépit des préceptes religieux.

Cette thèse se propose d'aborder la question de la polyphonie telle qu'elle se manifeste dans les romans de l'auteur comorien, Ali Zamir, que sont Anguille sous roche, Mon Étincelle, Dérangé que je suis et Jouissance. Suivant une approche à la fois énonciative et sémiostylistique, nous nous fixons pour objectif de faire ressortir tout ce qui contribue à faire de ces romans des textes polyphoniques : outils linguistiques, mécanismes langagiers, techniques discursives, etc. Ce travail de recherche part de l'hypothèse que la polyphonie est le trait par rapport auquel se définissent tous ceux que Zamir a mobilisés pour la construction de la littérarité de ses textes ; laquelle littérarité - comme cela est indiqué, dans la théorie sémiostylistique dont nous nous servirons, ne peut être déterminée que lors de la réception. C'est ainsi qu'une importance particulière sera accordée à l'analyse du lecteur pour montrer, entre autres objets, quels impacts peut avoir sur son activité de récepteur la combinaison des différentes « voix » convoquées par le scripteur, dont la sienne. Ce travail essaiera d'étudier le processus énonciatif mis en scène dans chaque roman, en analysant les différents rapports entre les actants qui y prennent part : narrateurs, lecteur (et autres destinataires), scripteur et éditeur, tous feront l'objet de l'analyse menée dans cette thèse
This thesis aims to address the question of polyphony as it manifests itself in the novels of the Comorian author, Ali Zamir, which are Anguille sous roche, Mon Étincelle, Dérangé que je suis and Jouissance. Following an approach that is both enunciative and semi-stylistic, we set ourselves the objective of bringing out everything that contributes to making these novels polyphonic texts: linguistic tools, language mechanisms, discursive techniques, etc. This research work starts from the hypothesis that polyphony is the trait in relation to which all those that Zamir mobilized for the construction of the literariness of his texts are defined; which literarity - as indicated, in the semiostylistic theory which we will use, can only be determined during reception. This is how particular importance will be given to the analysis of the reader to show, among other objects, what impacts the combination of the different “voices” summoned by the writer, including his own, can have on his activity as a receiver. This work will attempt to study the enunciative process staged in each novel, by analyzing the different relationships between the actors who take part in it: narrators, reader (and other recipients), writer and editor, all will be the subject of the analysis carried out in this thesis

Comment des pratiques économiques illégales viennent-elles à être considérées comme des formes banales et légitimes de subsistance voire d’accumulation ? Par quels mécanismes et selon quelles logiques se constituent-elles en fondement des conduites de vie ? Les Tunisiens désignent ces formes illégales mais légitimes d’accès à des ressources matérielles à travers l’usage du mot el khobza (le pain). Dans une démarche d’ethnographie politique, cette thèse cherche à saisir la « course à el khobza » (« course au pain ») dans des lieux aussi divers que la frontière, l’atelier de travail clandestin, l’économie trafiquante, le centre d’appel ou encore l’ONG de microcrédit et a montré qu’il s’agit d’une conduite de vie qui est fondamentalement ambivalente. Elle amène les sujets les moins favorisés à « jouer le pouvoir » de façon à domestiquer les incertitudes de cette vie aux marges de la société et à apprivoiser la violence dans un désir de s’arracher à la précarité. Simultanément, elle participe à l’insertion et à la diffusion du pouvoir dans les relations économiques les plus banales. La « course à el khobza » est un vecteur de l’assujettissement des hommes par l’insertion, développant les frustrations et les sentiments d’humiliation. En Tunisie, la gouvernementalité d’el khobza constitue aussi bien la matrice de l’obéissance que celle de la révolte
The present thesis aims to grasp the « race to el khobza » (bread) in diverse situations and places, ranging from the borders, to illegal work, to smuggling, to call centers, or even NGOs of microcredits. Hence, as the line of conduct of subjects living at the margins of the society, the « race to el khobza » is fundamentally ambivalent. Playing with power is necessary in order to domesticate the uncertainties of life in the margins and to tame violence in order to escape precariousness and poverty. This race is also a subjection to mechanisms of power producing frustrations and feelings of humiliation. Therefore, in Tunisia, the governmentality of el khobza is both the matrix of obedience and revolt

Cette thèse pose les questions suivantes : quels sont les rôles de la corruption et du clientélisme politique dans la gouvernance et la pérennisation des régimes autoritaires; et comment ces pratiques persistent ou se transforment dans les périodes de transformation politique et de changement de régime. Ces questions sont abordées à travers la lentille du cas tunisien, et aussi cette thèse s’appuie-t-elle sur une enquête de terrain conduite, d’un côté, auprès des acteurs de la lutte contre la corruption; et de l’autre auprès de cadres et de professionnels de l’industrie du ciment. Elle souligne que le clientélisme politique sous le régime Ben Ali, en tant qu’institution informelle, s’est transformé de façon concomitante aux transformations des institutions économiques et politiques formelles. Ensuite, après le changement de régime, les discours sur la corruption et la lutte contre la corruption indiquent que les institutions « démocratiques » émergentes peinent à s’affirmer face aux pratiques informelles du clientélisme politique, qui s’avèrent exceptionnellement résilientes.

Nous avons cherché, tout au long de ce travail, dans la deuxième République tunisienne, immergé dans un contexte international délicat et un environnement culturel particulier, les aspects manifestes et latents du rôle assigné à la communication dans le processus de construction de la légitimité du nouveau président, Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali. Il a été question aussi de relever les principaux écueils qui s'érigent face à cette construction. En périodes ordinaires comme en périodes électorales, la communication a été appréhendée en tant que vecteur et composante d'un processus de légitimation. Face à un imaginaire populaire profondément marqué par la vision patriarcale du pouvoir et une société encore à maints égards sacrale, Ben Ali amorce une transition démocratique qui s'annonçait délicate. Cette thèse analyse les mécanismes de cette transition et la dynamique de différenciation caractérisée essentiellement par la modernisation des stratégies communicationnelles. Véhiculée par un appareil médiatique toujours sous le monopole étatique, la communication, enrichie par de nouveaux procédés, se présente comme la principale innovation électorale dans la mesure où le principe de candidature unique n'offre pas matière à contestation. L'immobilisme électoral n'est pas de nature à favoriser l'émergence d'une communication électorale concurrentielle. Au quotidien, les vecteurs de communication politique (médias, organisations, discours) assurent a visibilité de Ben Ali. Le sous-développement et l'euphonie des médias, malades d'une longue histoire monolithique, en corrélation indirecte avec les réseaux contestataires et la contre-communication dissidente établie à l'étranger, affectent sérieusement le processus de légitimation du pouvoir benaliste.

Cette recherche retrace les aspects manifestes et latents d’une rupture structurelle en Tunisie pendant la gouvernance de l’ancien Président Ben Ali (7 novembre 1987 - 14 janvier 2011), au niveau de la dynamique fonctionnelle entre l’instance politique et médiatique d’un côté et l’instance citoyenne de l’autre. Un soulèvement populaire s’est produit dans le pays entre décembre 2010 et janvier 2011 mettant fin au régime de Ben Ali, causé par nombres de facteurs économiques, sociaux et politiques. Cette rupture est aussi l’un des éléments pouvant expliquer cette révolte. Il a été question, dans ce travail, de démontrer les aspects du dysfonctionnement de la dynamique et les facteurs qui ont déclenché et renforcé un malaise populaire. Nous avons choisi d’aborder ce sujet d’un point de vue discursif, en observant et analysant l’interaction de la parole des trois composantes de l’espace public : la sphère politique, médiatique et citoyenne. Tout au long des deux décennies de Ben Ali, une corrélation non dissimulée s’est installée entre pouvoir politique et médias, dont le but est d’assurer et de maintenir la légitimation du président et de son régime. Dans cette corrélation l’instance citoyenne ainsi que sa parole sont écartées en tant qu’acteur actif participant à la vie politique. Elle est cependant présente comme objet d’autorité et d’instrumentalisation. Le fonctionnement et les réactions de cette instance face à un rôle bien assigné et bien défini de la part de l’alliance politico-médiatique ont été approchés à partir du socle conceptuel de la psychologie sociale. This thesis traces the self-evident and less obvious aspects of the process that led to the overthrow in Tunisia of th regime of President Ben Ali (November 7th 1987 - 14th 2011); it centers on the dynamics behind the conflict between the media and political apparatus and the civilian population. The uprising between December 2010 and January 2011 ended in the dismantling of Ben Ali's regime, due mainly to economic and political factors. This study highlights the failures that led to popular discontent. We center on a discursive viewpoint, observing and analysing the interaction between three components of the public space: the political, media, and citizen spheres. Throughout Ben Ali's rule of two decades, political power and the media blatantly collaborated so as to maintain the legitimacy of the President and his system. This pact also put aside citizen expression, rendering them mute, as they were reduced to an instrument of those in power. We then studied how they sought emancipation and to alter their limited role via a social psychology approach

Ce que nous appelons islamisme est essentiellement le fait de politiciens qui œuvrent au nom de la religion. L'islamisme tunisien a vu le jour au 19ème siècle afin de préserver sa culture arabo musulmane face à un occident chrétien de plus en plus présent. Avant les indépendances cet islamisme tenait sa force d'un large sentiment nationaliste. À partir des années 1960-1970, l'islamisme tunisien avait toujours ce besoin contestataire face à un occident toujours très présent mais cette contestation les islamistes tunisiens du mouvement Ennahdha la vécurent de l'intérieur. . . Ils luttaient pour leurs gouvernements les acceptent enfin politiquement et socialement pour être finalement jeter en prison et même pire. L'islamisme tunisien a toujours fait parti de l'islamisme mondialisé mais ce mouvement encore plus révolté face à un occident qu'il considère libertin et décadent est devenu le jihadisme mondialisé et assassin
What we call the Islamism is mainly caused by politicians that work behalf of the religion. The Tunisian Islamism had emerged in the 19th centuries, to preserve his Arab and Muslim culture, Christian occident facing an increasing present. Prior to independence this Islamism kept its strength from wide nationalist sentiments. Starting of the years 1960-1970, the Tunisian Islamism, still has that need at dissenting front an occident still very present. However that dispute, the Tunisians Islamist, of the Ennahdha movement lived from inside. . . They fought for their governments, finally accept politically and socially, to be finally thrown in jail or worse. This dissertation focuses on the modern art of Pakistan from 1947-57, more specifically, the role of six important artists who founded the Lahore Art Circle (LAC) in 1952. The group played a pivotal role in the formulation of modernism in Pakistan after its establishment as an Islamic Republic. Framed within postcolonial theories and criticism, this study will address the role of modern art in developing new artistic sensibilities in the nation of Pakistan. In order to understand the context of LAC’s framing of “modernism” and “nationalism” in terms of specific historic and hybrid nexus,my research will provide an investigation of works of only the founding members of the Lahore Art Circle including: Shakir Ali (1924-1975), Sheikh Safdar Ali (1924-1983),Moyene Najmi (1926-1997), Ali Imam (1924-2000), Ahmed Parvez (1926-1979) and Anwar Jalal Shemza (1928-1985). In analyzing the works of individual artists and the role of LAC during the first decade of the establishment of Pakistan as a nation-state, this study provides a framework to understand the specific condition of modernism in Pakistan that was dictated by these artists’ careers and works. Thus, this research investigates how the framing of modernism for these artists took on highly personal, international, incipiently national and distinctly local forms in the early years of the Pakistan after the Partition of 1947. Lastly, it will also examine how the individual LAC artists situated themselves in the discourse between constructing a newly established Pakistani identity within the larger paradigms of international modernism.

L'objectif de cette thèse se repose sur la présentation de la littérature européenne à travers l'oeuvre de Mohammad-Ali Djamalzadeh, en particulier, "Il était une fois" (Yeki bud yeki nabud), qui eut un succès inoui͏̈ dans la société iranienne en 1921. C'est à partir de cette date que la littérature iranienne commença à présenter un caractère moderne et ouvrit ses portes à la culture occidentale. Le Romantisme et le Réalisme sont deux termes essentiels pour trouver les origines de l'influence occidentale sur Djamalzadeh, ce qui nous permet de réaliser une étude comparative entre "La visite de minuit" et "Atala" de Chateaubriand et entre "Le vagabond du royaume" et "Le vagabond" de Guy de Maupassant et ainsi que "Le persan est du sucre" et "La dernière classe" d'Alphonse Daudet. La démarche de Djamalzadeh pour réconcilier la mentalité iranienne avec la littérature européenne est liée à l'évolution d'une nouvelle écriture (simple) dont "L'humaine tragédie" et "Putois" d'Anatole France furent lus par les lecteurs iraniens sous forme d'une adaptation (Traduction libre). Le Classicisme exerça aussi une influence profonde chez Djamalzadeh, soit par l'inspiration morale des auteurs classiques, soit par le choix des thèmes sociaux dont "L'avare" de Molière et les oeuvres théâtrales de Schiller furent traduits en iranien dans le cadre d'un projet éducatif. Nous pouvons dire que la littérature moderne iranienne avec Djamalzadeh se fit le "porte-parole" de la littérature occidentale. Le plan de cette thèse comporte trois parties qui ont permis de développer les pistes de recherche dont l'essentiel était de mettre l'accent sur la création littéraire de Djamalzadeh sous l'influence de la littérature européennne
The aim of this thesis is to study the influence of European literature on the works of Mohammad-Ali Djamalzadeh and especially on "Il était une fois" (Yeki bud yeki nabud) whose unique success in 1921 left a lasting mark on Iranian society. From that date, Iranian literature opened up to western culture and entered modernity. Romantism and Realism are extremely tools to identify the origins of western influence on Djamalzadeh. A comparative study between "La visite de minuit" and "Atala" by Chateaubriand on the one hand and "Le vagabond" by Guy de Maupassant and "Le persan est du sucre" and "La dernière classe" by Alphonse Daudet on the other hand is therefore quite relevant. Djamalzadeh's attempt to reconcile the Iranian mindset with European literature is linked to the development of a new simpler style of writing. Indeed "L'humaine tragédie" and "Putois" by Anatole France were discovered by Iranian readers as adaptations or free translations. Classicism also influenced Djamalzadeh deeply either through the moral inspiration of classical writers, or through the choice of social themes. "L'avare" by Molière and Schiller's plays have been translated into Iranian within the framework of an educational project. Modern Iranian literature then gives a voice to European literature, thanks to Djamalzadeh. This thesis is made up of three parts whose main aim is to stress to what extent European literature has influenced Djamalzadeh's literary creativity

Entre 1857, ano da Revolta dos Cipaios e consequente ocupação definitiva da Índia pelos Britânicos, causando o fim do poder político muçulmano, e 1947, data da sua independência e Partição em dois Estados, União Indiana e Paquistão, o subcontinente indiano sofreu grandes transformações. Esta foi uma época rica em pensamento reformista islâmico, dando origem a um intenso debate que ultrapassou as suas fronteiras geográficas e antecipou questões posteriores que ainda hoje se colocam: condição das mulheres, papel da religião na política ou o fim do califado. A importância do estudo do Islão em contexto indiano advém do facto de um terço dos muçulmanos existentes hoje em dia no Mundo viverem nessa região e do facto de, no período agora em estudo, o império britânico ter sido a entidade política com mais muçulmanos precisamente porque a Índia estava sob administração da Grã-Bretanha. Por outro lado, no ano de 2007, que assinalou precisamente os 60 anos da Independência da União Indiana e Paquistão, bem como os 150 anos da Revolta dos Cipaios, houve quem considerasse que os Britânicos deveriam ter restituído aos muçulmanos, em 1947, o poder que lhes tinha sido retirado em 1857.

Abstract Three levels of bearing outer race damage were tested over varying rotational speed and radial load. An acoustic emission sensor (AE) and accelerometer were used to record acoustic emission and vibration levels, respectively. The high frequency resonance technique (HFRT) and Adaptive Line Enhancer (ALE) were employed to process vibration signals. The primary metric of vibration level in this research is the Root-mean-square (RMS). The HFRT and ALE signal processing combination is effective in isolating deterministic defect frequencies. Finally a multi-layer perceptron neural network using accelerometer and AE RMS values was demonstrated as being successful in bearing defect level classification given operating conditions.

Pentapeptide Ala-Arg-Prv-Ala-Lys corresponding to β43-47 is known to increase microvascular permeability and is supposed to be involved in the establishment of pulmonary edema in conditions with fibrin accumulation in the lungs (Belew, et al., Thromb. Res. 13, 983-994, 1978). This peptide also induced dilation of bovine mesenteric arteries and caused a release of prostacyclin as well as an increase in cyclic AMP in blood vessels (Anderson, et al., Thromb. Res. 30, 213-218, 1983). The aim of this report was to demonstrate at which step of plasm in degradation this physiologically active peptide is released from fibrin(ogen) to the environment. For this purpose the pentapeptide and its analog Tyr-Ala-Arg-Pro-Ala-Lys were synthesized and used to produce specific antibodies in three rabbits. Antibody titers were determined by radioimmunoassay using radioiodinated Tyr-Ala-Arg-Prtr-Ala-Lys and fibrinogsn and the highest titer antisera from each rabbit were selected. Antibodies raised against β43-47 recognized during immunoblotting intact fibrinogen, fragments X and Y as well as the Bp chain. Since fragment Y is the last product which reacts with anti-β43-47 antibodies, splitting of fragment Y into fragment D and fragment E must be accompanied by plasmin cleavage of the peptide bond βLys47-Ala48. Anti-β43-47 antibodies precipitated also radioiodinated fibrinogen which was not exposed to sodium dodecyl sulfate confirming our previous observations (Cierniewski and Edgington, Thromb. Res. 14, 747-764, 1979) that sequence 43-53 of the β chain is exposed on the hydrated surface of intact fibrinogen molecule.

Nowadays, due to the advances in nanolithography technology it is possible to fabricate structures whose electronic properties correspond to that of a quasi-one-dimensional electron gas. Such structures allow us to observe ballistic quantum transport at low temperatures, and remarkable experimental observations have resulted1. Many theoretical studies have investigated conductance fluctuations2 and voltage controlled defects. Cahay et al3 studied the problem of localization associated with the conductance fluctuations of an array of elastic scatterers. Joe et al4 discussed the effects of a voltage controlled impurity for the conductance of a single open quantum box. As the impurity size is changed, it causes conductance oscillations due to the interference of circulating and bound states of the quantum box. In this paper we analyze how changes in geometry of a structure with three open dots affect its electronic properties.

Pinnacles National Park (?Pinnacles?) provides diverse habitats for numerous cliff-nesting raptors, including prairie falcons (Falco mexicanus) and peregrine falcons (F. peregrinus), as well as a spectacular array of summits and cliff-wall routes for rock-climbers. This monitoring program was established to determine long-term trends in the number of occupied territories and productivity of nesting prairie and peregrine falcons. The monitoring program grew out of a need to reduce potential disturbance that climbers and off-trail hikers may have on cliff-nesting raptors. The falcon monitoring program began with a pilot effort in 1984, and after two years of no monitoring efforts in 1985 and 1986, monitoring data have been collected annually from 1987 to the present. This report summarizes the results from the 2023 breeding season and represents the 38th year of monitoring at the park, consistent with the standardized methods and procedures detailed in the Prairie Falcon Monitoring Protocol for Pinnacles National Monument (Emmons et al. 2011). To monitor falcons, field technicians surveyed all potential nest sites three times per breeding season, with visits spaced 21 to 28 days apart. We revisited those nests determined to be active to confirm rearing of nestlings and fledging of young. In 2023, we conducted monitoring from 1 January 2023 until 9 July 2023, with a total of over 150 possible and active nest sites monitored during 870 observation hours. For prairie and peregrine falcons combined, we documented 14 territorial pairs this year, with 12 pairs actively nesting. Six nests successfully fledged 17 young; six nests failed. For prairie falcons specifically, we documented ten territorial pairs, with three nests successfully fledging 10 young. For peregrine falcons, we documented four territorial pairs, with three nests successfully fledging 7 young. Falcon fecundity for the 2023 season was notably lower compared to the 37-year average. The data from 38 years of falcon monitoring at Pinnacles suggest an apparent cyclic population pattern in annual prairie falcon productivity, supplemented by increased peregrine falcon breeding efforts in recent years (Appendix C).

Entre 1980 y la primera mitad de los noventas, la intermediación financiera en Bolivia se ha desenvuelto en dos ambientes de política económica completamente opuestos: el primero correspondió a una economía donde el rol del Estado era gravitante y el segundo a una economía de mercado. Hasta agosto de 1985 se impusieron controles sobre la tasa de interés. Esta política, la hiperinflación, la mora bancaria, la "desdolarización" del año 1982 y la reducción en el crecimiento de la economía, determinaron el desmoronamiento del sistema financiero. El aumento de la emisión monetaria aceleró la inflación de tal manera que las tasas de interés reales llegaron a ser negativas, afectando directamente a la intermediación financiera. Los bancos se vieron imposibilitados de cumplir sus compromisos con la banca extranjera, por lo que perdieron el acceso a esa fuente de financiamiento. La regulación no era suficientemente clara y tampoco se cumplía. El aumento de la mora, de los gastos administrativos, y de la proporción de activos no rentables disminuyó notoriamente los volúmenes de operación de la banca. En agosto de 1985, cuando se implementa la Nueva Política Económica (NPE), se introducen una serie de cambios que transformaron al sector financiero. El objetivo inicial fue detener la hiperinflación y luego retomar el crecimiento. Las medidas en términos generales fueron: i) saneamiento fiscal; ii) liberalización del sistema financiero; iii) liberalización de los mercados de bienes y factores; y iv) apertura al comercio exterior.

In 1972, PRCI Project PR-15-61 was initiated to measure exhaust emissions from stationary reciprocating gas engines and gas turbines used in natural gas compressor stations. Emission rates of oxides of nitrogen (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC), and carbon monoxide (CO) were measured from 59 reciprocating gas engines and nine gas turbines. During and subsequent to 1972, the PRCI laboratories and various PRCI member companies conducted emissions measurements. In 1978, PRCI Project PR-15-92 was initiated to conduct additional emissions measurements. That project involved 55 reciprocating gas engines and 11 gas turbines. All of those data were included in the May 1980 revision to the compilation of emissions data. Subsequent to the May 1980 revision, additional emissions measurements were conducted under PRCI Projects PR-15425 and PR-15-613, and emissions data were obtained from gas transmission companies and gas engine manufacturers in PR-15-613. These additional data are included in this 1988 reissue of the compilation. The emissions data presented in this data book have been obtained from projects conducted or sponsored by the Pipeline Research Committee of the Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI), individual PRCI member companies, or gas engine manufacturers. Data included are from in-use reciprocating engines and gas turbines that have been in-service for anywhere from less than a year to one or more decades. These data are generally presented as received. Editing has been limited to omitting data for entire tests only where the data are obviously in error and to identifying specific erroneous or questionable items within a test.

Channel Islands National Park (CHIS) has conducted long-term ecological monitoring of the kelp forests around San Miguel, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, Anacapa and Santa Barbara Islands since 1982. The original permanent transects were established at 16 sites between 1981 and 1986 with the first sampling beginning in 1982, this being the 33rd year of monitoring. An additional site, Miracle Mile, was established at San Miguel Island in 2001 by a commercial fisherman with assistance from the park. Miracle Mile was partially monitored from 2002 to 2004, and then fully monitored (using all KFM protocols) since 2005. In 2005, 16 additional permanent sites were established to collect baseline data from inside and adjacent to four marine reserves that were established in 2003. Sampling results from all 33 sites mentioned above are included in this report. Funding for the Kelp Forest Monitoring Program (KFM) in 2014 was provided by the National Park Service (NPS). The 2014 monitoring efforts utilized 49 days of vessel time to conduct 1,040 dives for a total of 1,059 hours of bottom time. Population dynamics of a select list of 71 “indicator species” (consisting of taxa or categories of algae, fish, and invertebrates) were measured at the 33 permanent sites. In addition, population dynamics were measured for all additional species of fish observed at the sites during the roving diver fish count. Survey techniques follow the CHIS Kelp Forest Monitoring Protocol Handbook (Davis et al. 1997) and an update to the sampling protocol handbook currently being developed (Kushner and Sprague, in progress). The techniques utilize SCUBA and surface-supplied-air to conduct the following monitoring protocols: 1 m2 quadrats, 5 m2 quadrats, band transects, random point contacts, fish transects, roving diver fish counts, video transects, size frequency measurements, and artificial recruitment modules. Hourly temperature data were collected using remote temperature loggers at 32 sites, the exception being Miracle Mile where there is no temperature logger installed. This annual report contains a brief description of each site including any notable observations or anomalies, a summary of methods used, and monitoring results for 2014. All the data collected during 2014 can be found in the appendices and in an Excel workbook on the NPS Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) portal. In the 2013 annual report (Sprague et al. 2020) several changes were made to the appendices. Previously, annual report density and percent cover data tables only included the current year’s data. Now, density and percent cover data are presented in graphical format and include all years of available monitoring data. Roving diver fish count (RDFC), fish size frequency, natural habitat size frequency, and Artificial Recruitment Module (ARM) size frequency data are now stored on IRMA at https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2259651. The temperature data graphs in Appendix L include the same graphs that were used in past reports, but include additional violin plot sections that compare monthly means from the current year to past years. In addition to the changes listed above, the layout of the discussion section was reordered by species instead of by site. The status of kelp forests differed among the five park islands. This is a result of a combination of factors including but not limited to, oceanography, biogeography and associated differences in species abundance and composition, as well as sport and commercial fishing pressure. All 33 permanent sites were established in areas that had or were historically known to have had kelp forests in the past. In 2014, 15 of the 33 sites monitored were characterized as developing kelp forest, kelp forest or mature kelp forest. In addition, three sites were in a state of transition. El principal objetivo de este estudio es determinar en forma empírica los determinantes económicos de los spreads bancarios en Chile. Los factores que determinan los spreads bancarios pueden ser clasificados como factores de carácter microeconómico (que se refieren básicamente a la administración de los bancos comerciales, manejo de riesgo y al funcionamiento del mercado), factores macroeconómicos (política monetaria e inflación, política cambiaria y evolución del tipo de cambio, etc.) y factores institucionales (legislación bancaria y supervisión). Muchos de estos factores han sido sugeridos por la teoría, por lo cual, la pregunta acerca de cuáles de estos factores son más preponderantes en la determinación del margen de los bancos pasa a ser una pregunta empírica. La economía chilena presenta un caso interesante de analizar, puesto que después de la crisis de 1982-83 en que se liquidaron y se intervino la administración de varios bancos, comenzó un desarrollo de un sistema financiero completamente diferente al existente a esa fecha. En primer lugar, se modificó la legislación imponiendo restricciones sobre la concentración de la cartera de activos de los bancos. En segundo lugar, se ejercieron controles más estrictos en la administración de los bancos por parte de la autoridad, a través de la Superintendencia de Bancos y Sociedades Financieras. Todo esto se fue dando en un contexto de "sequía" de capitales externos entre 1984 y 1988, período en el cual, préstamos voluntarios a Chile eran inexistentes (véase Agosin, Fuentes y Letelier, 1993).

The tables in this document present an inventory of some of the available poverty lines for all IDB member countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The listed poverty lines are expressed as per capita monthly amounts of nominal local currency and are estimated based on the reference (fieldwork) period of the survey to which they apply. For example, Mexico's INEGI poverty line for 1994 is given in pesos for the 4th quarter of 1994. The only exceptions are the IDB/Poverty Targeted Investments (PTI) poverty lines, which are estimated by using the yearly average of the general consumption price index so that their reference period is mid-year. The appendix presents a more detailed explanation of how the IDB/PTI poverty lines are estimated. In order to review the origin of the rest of the lines, the reader is referred to their original sources, which are listed after each table. All sources are included as footnotes to the tables.
