Streszczenie:
Most of the commenly adotped interpolation algorithems are for the curve machining on CNC machine tools with Cartesian coordinates configuration. For a CNC machine tool with non-Cartesian configuration, new trajectory interpolation algorithem must be developed to machine complex part sueface. Based on the analysis of the geometric characteristics and the CNC grinding principle of indexable inserts, this paper proposes two interpolation algorithems to grind the nose surface of indexable inserts with constant or variable back angle. The algorithm precision analysis is also made in this paper.

Streszczenie:
Building wall plays a key role in the noise isolation. As a there are lot of open holes in the wall for various construction equipments, pipes and lines, it is an important issue how to determine the maximum area of wall cracks with the given expect sound insulation. The calculation model is established with immune algorithm, the expected value of the sound isolation is defined as objective function, the areal density, thickness and Young modulus of monolayer wall are defined as bounded variable. The global maximum value of objective function is obtained by the MATLAB program and so to determine the materials, thickness and construction details which reach to the sound insulation.

Streszczenie:
The objective of the paper is to examine the academic performance of students’ vis-a-vis socio-economic factors using clustering analysis. The grades obtained in the 10th class are taken as the measure of academic performance. The variables such gender, caste, parental education and occupation. are considered as the socio-economic indicators. Three clustering algorithems are employed. The K-medoid performs better in the validation process to form the groupings based on intra-cluster homogeneity and inter-cluster heterogeneity. The clustering analysis results in two interesting groups of the students. One of the clusters is dominated by the students of general category and the other one by the scheduled caste category. Next, the appropriate statistical tests are applied to determine the factors that significantly differ in the two clusters. Cluster analysis shows that caste, parents' education and occupation, and family income are the differentiating factors between the two groups. However, we are unable to establish significant difference between the academic performance of the two groups of students at a 5% significance. The research carried out in this paper may be beneficial for making policies to bridge the gap in the educational attainment of the students from deprived sections of society.

Streszczenie:
There is a huge group of algorithms described in the literature that iteratively find solutions of a given equation. Most of them require tuning. The article presents root-finding algorithms that are based on the Newton–Raphson method which iteratively finds the solutions, and require tuning. The modification of the algorithm implements the best position of particle similarly to the particle swarm optimisation algorithms. The proposed approach allows visualising the impact of the algorithm’s elements on the complex behaviour of the algorithm. Moreover, instead of the standard Picard iteration, various feedback iteration processes are used in this research. Presented examples and the conducted discussion on the algorithm’s operation allow to understand the influence of the proposed modifications on the algorithm’s behaviour. Understanding the impact of the proposed modification on the algorithm’s operation can be helpful in using it in other algorithms. The obtained images also have potential artistic applications.

Streszczenie:
As a research hotspot in ensemble learning, clustering ensemble obtains robust and highly accurate algorithms by integrating multiple basic clustering algorithms. Most of the existing clustering ensemble algorithms take the linear clustering algorithms as the base clusterings. As a typical unsupervised learning technique, clustering algorithms have difficulties properly defining the accuracy of the findings, making it difficult to significantly enhance the performance of the final algorithm. AGglomerative NESting method is used to build base clusters in this article, and an integration strategy for integrating multiple AGglomerative NESting clusterings is proposed. The algorithm has three main steps: evaluating the credibility of labels, producing multiple base clusters, and constructing the relation among clusters. The proposed algorithm builds on the original advantages of AGglomerative NESting and further compensates for the inability to identify arbitrarily shaped clusters. It can establish the proposed algorithm’s superiority in terms of clustering performance by comparing the proposed algorithm’s clustering performance to that of existing clustering algorithms on different datasets.

In this thesis, we are studying severa! stochastic algorithms with different purposes and this is why we will start this manuscript by giving historicals results to define the framework of our work. Then, we will study a bandit algorithm due to the work of Narendra and Shapiro whose objectif was to determine among a choice of severa! sources which one is the most profitable without spending too much times on the wrong orres. Our goal is to understand the weakness of this algorithm in order to propose an optimal procedure for a quantity measuring the performance of a bandit algorithm, the regret. In our results, we will propose an algorithm called NS over-penalized which allows to obtain a minimax regret bound. A second work will be to understand the convergence in law of this process. The particularity of the algorith is that it converges in law toward a non-diffusive process which makes the study more intricate than the standard case. We will use coupling techniques to study this process and propose rates of convergence. The second work of this thesis falls in the scope of optimization of a function using a stochastic algorithm. We will study a stochastic version of the so-called heavy bali method with friction. The particularity of the algorithm is that its dynamics is based on the ali past of the trajectory. The procedure relies on a memory term which dictates the behavior of the procedure by the form it takes. In our framework, two types of memory will investigated : polynomial and exponential. We will start with general convergence results in the non-convex case. In the case of strongly convex functions, we will provide upper-bounds for the rate of convergence. Finally, a convergence in law result is given in the case of exponential memory. The third part is about the McKean-Vlasov equations which were first introduced by Anatoly Vlasov and first studied by Henry McKean in order to mode! the distribution function of plasma. Our objective is to propose a stochastic algorithm to approach the invariant distribution of the McKean Vlasov equation. Methods in the case of diffusion processes (and sorne more general pro cesses) are known but the particularity of McKean Vlasov process is that it is strongly non-linear. Thus, we will have to develop an alternative approach. We will introduce the notion of asymptotic pseudotrajectory in odrer to get an efficient procedure

Inverse problems in image processing can be solved by diverse techniques, such as classical variational methods, recent deep learning approaches, or Bayesian strategies. Although relying on different principles, these methods all require efficient optimization algorithms. The proximity operator appears as a crucial tool in many iterative solvers for nonsmooth optimization problems. In this thesis, we illustrate the versatility of proximal algorithms by incorporating them within each one of the aforementioned resolution methods.First, we consider a variational formulation including a set of constraints and a composite objective function. We present PIPA, a novel proximal interior point algorithm for solving the considered optimization problem. This algorithm includes variable metrics for acceleration purposes. We derive convergence guarantees for PIPA and show in numerical experiments that it compares favorably with state-of-the-art algorithms in two challenging image processing applications. In a second part, we investigate a neural network architecture called iRestNet, obtained by unfolding a proximal interior point algorithm over a fixed number of iterations. iRestNet requires the expression of the logarithmic barrier proximity operator and of its first derivatives, which we provide for three useful types of constraints. Then, we derive conditions under which this optimization-inspired architecture is robust to an input perturbation. We conduct several image deblurring experiments, in which iRestNet performs well with respect to a variational approach and to state-of-the-art deep learning methods. The last part of this thesis focuses on a stochastic sampling method for solving inverse problems in a Bayesian setting. We present an accelerated proximal unadjusted Langevin algorithm called PP-ULA. This scheme is incorporated into a hybrid Gibbs sampler used to perform joint deconvolution and segmentation of ultrasound images. PP-ULA employs the majorize-minimize principle to address non log-concave priors. As shown in numerical experiments, PP-ULA leads to a significant time reduction and to very satisfactory deconvolution and segmentation results on both simulated and real ultrasound data

In Bioinformatics, understanding how DNA molecules have evolved over time remains an open and complex problem.Algorithms have been proposed to solve this problem, but they are limited either to the evolution of a given character (forexample, a specific nucleotide), or conversely focus on large nuclear genomes (several billion base pairs ), the latter havingknown multiple recombination events - the problem is NP complete when you consider the set of all possible operationson these sequences, no solution exists at present. In this thesis, we tackle the problem of reconstruction of ancestral DNAsequences by focusing on the nucleotide chains of intermediate size, and have experienced relatively little recombinationover time: chloroplast genomes. We show that at this level the problem of the reconstruction of ancestors can be resolved, even when you consider the set of all complete chloroplast genomes currently available. We focus specifically on the orderand ancestral gene content, as well as the technical problems this raises reconstruction in the case of chloroplasts. Weshow how to obtain a prediction of the coding sequences of a quality such as to allow said reconstruction and how toobtain a phylogenetic tree in agreement with the largest number of genes, on which we can then support our back in time- the latter being finalized. These methods, combining the use of tools already available (the quality of which has beenassessed) in high performance computing, artificial intelligence and bio-statistics were applied to a collection of more than450 chloroplast genomes

This thesis exposes contributions to the analysis of algorithms for noisy functions. It exposes convergence rates for linesearch algorithms as well as for random search algorithms. We prove in terms of Simple Regret and Cumulative Regret that a Hessian based algorithm can reach the same results as some optimal algorithms in the literature, when parameters are tuned correctly. On the other hand we analyse the convergence order of Evolution Strategies when solving noisy functions. We deduce log-log convergence. We also give a lower bound for the convergence rate of the Evolution Strategies. We extend the work on revaluation by applying it to a discrete settings. Finally we analyse the performance measure itself and prove that the use of an erroneus performance measure can lead to misleading results on the evaluation of different methods

Thesis (M. Eng.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2007.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 71-72).
Shirayanagi and Sweedler [12] proved that a large class of algorithms on the reals can be modified slightly so that they also work correctly on floating-point numbers. Their main theorem states that, for each input, there exists a precision, called the minimum converging precision (MCP), at and beyond which the modified "stabilized" algorithm follows the same sequence of steps as the original "exact" algorithm. In this thesis, we study the MCP of two algorithms for finding the greatest common divisor of two univariate polynomials with real coefficients: the Euclidean algorithm, and an algorithm based on QR-factorization. We show that, if the coefficients of the input polynomials are allowed to be any computable numbers, then the MCPs of the two algorithms are not computable, implying that there are no "simple" bounding functions for the MCP of all pairs of real polynomials. For the Euclidean algorithm, we derive upper bounds on the MCP for pairs of polynomials whose coefficients are members of Z, 0, Z[6], and Q[6] where ( is a real algebraic integer. The bounds are quadratic in the degrees of the input polynomials or worse. For the QR-factorization algorithm, we derive a bound on the minimal precision at and beyond which the stabilized algorithm gives a polynomial with the same degree as that of the exact GCD, and another bound on the the minimal precision at and beyond which the algorithm gives a polynomial with the same support as that of the exact GCD. The bounds are linear in (1) the degree of the polynomial and (2) the sum of the logarithm of diagonal entries of matrix R in the QR factorization of the Sylvester matrix of the input polynomials.

Streszczenie:
AbstractIn engineering optimization with continuous variables, the use of Stochastic Global Optimization (SGO) algorithms is popular due to the easy availability of codes. All algorithms have a global and local search character, where the global behaviour tries to avoid getting trapped in local optima and the local behaviour intends to reach the lowest objective function values. As the algorithm parameter set includes a final convergence criterion, the algorithm might be running for a while around a reached minimum point. Our question deals with the local search behaviour after the algorithm reached the final stage. How fast do practical SGO algorithms actually converge to the minimum point? To investigate this question, we run implementations of well known SGO algorithms in a final local phase stage.

Streszczenie:
AbstractThe increasing complexity of real-world optimization problems demands fast, robust, and efficient meta-heuristic algorithms. The popularity of these intelligent techniques is gaining popularity day by day among researchers from various disciplines of science and engineering. The sine cosine algorithm is a simple population-based stochastic approach for handling different optimization problems. In this work, we have discussed the basic sine cosine algorithm for continuous optimization problems, the multi-objective sine cosine algorithm for handling multi-objective optimization problems, and the discrete (or binary) versions of sine cosine algorithm for discrete optimization problems. Sine cosine algorithm (SCA) has reportedly shown competitive results when compared to other meta-heuristic algorithms. The easy implementation and less number of parameters make the SCA algorithm, a recommended choice for performing various optimization tasks. In this present chapter, we have studied different modifications and strategies for the advancement of the sine cosine algorithm. The incorporation of concepts like opposition-based learning, quantum simulation, and hybridization with other meta-heuristic algorithms have increased the efficiency and robustness of the SCA algorithm, and meanwhile, these techniques have also increased the application spectrum of the sine cosine algorithm.

Children in primary school do not learn about algorithms explicitly but use organized procedures. In the context of the dissertation of Peter Ludes-Adamy, primary school children participated in a project where they worked on learning environments containing mathematics and computer science tasks, including algorithms. The article aims to provide insight into this qualitative study and tries to answer the question, how children can identify and describe algorithms in the known field of mathematics. In this regard, primary school children’s collectively constructed framings of the concept of algorithms will be reconstructed.

Real time analysis and interpretation of fetal heart rate (FHR) is the challenge posed to every clinician. Different algorithms had been developed, tried and subsequently incorporated into Cardiotocograph (CTG) machines for automated diagnosis. Feature extraction and accurate detection of baseline and its variability has been the focus of this chapter. Algorithms by Dawes and Redman and Ayres-de-Campos have been discussed in this chapter. The authors are pleased to propose an algorithm for extracting the variability of fetal heart. The algorithm's accuracy and degree of agreement with clinician's diagnosis had been established by various statistical methods. This algorithm has been compared with an algorithm proposed by Nidhal and the new algorithm is found to be better at detecting variability in both ante-partum and intra-partum period.

Improving the prediction accuracy for Parkinson’s patients is achieved by applying Innovative Parkinson’s disease prediction utilizing classifiers that use machine learning methods and evaluating their performance. In this proposed work, the Innovative Parkinson’s disease prediction has been carried out using the Random Forest algorithm and the Decision Tree algorithm. It was tested over a dataset consisting of 757 records. Both algorithms were subjected to a programming experiment in which N=10 iterations were used to discover the symptoms of Innovative Parkinson’s disease prediction and their accurate analysis. The G-power test is around 80% accurate. From the implemented experiment by performing the independent sample t-test, the Random Forest algorithm’s Parkinson’s disease prediction accuracy is significantly (0.028) better than the Decision Tree algorithm. The accuracy of Innovative Parkinson’s disease prediction was compared between two algorithms, and the Random Forest algorithm appears to be higher at 93% than the Decision Tree algorithm’s accuracy of 91%. This research will use the most up-to-date Machine Learning Classifiers to create an innovative Parkinson’s disease prediction technique for the early detection of Parkinson’s disease and other related issues.

Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) are well-known optimization techniques to deal with nonlinear and complex optimization problems. However, most of these population-based algorithms are computationally expensive due to the slow nature of the evolutionary process. To overcome this drawback and to improve the convergence rate, this chapter employs Quasi-Opposition-Based Learning (QOBL) in conventional Biogeography-Based Optimization (BBO) technique. The proposed Quasi-Oppositional BBO (QOBBO) is comprehensively developed and successfully applied for solving the Optimal Reactive Power Dispatch (ORPD) problem by minimizing the transmission loss when both equality and inequality constraints are satisfied. The proposed QOBBO algorithm's performance is studied with comparisons of Canonical Genetic Algorithm (CGA), five versions of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Local Search-Based Self-Adaptive Differential Evolution (L-SADE), Seeker Optimization Algorithm (SOA), and BBO on the IEEE 30-bus, IEEE 57-bus, and IEEE 118-bus power systems. The simulation results show that the proposed QOBBO approach performed better than the other listed algorithms and can be efficiently used to solve small-, medium-, and large-scale ORPD problems.

Streszczenie:
There has been increasing interest in quantitative performance evaluation of computer vision algorithms. The usual method is to vary parameters of the input images or parameters of the algorithms and then construct operating curves that relate the probability of misdetection and false alarm for each parameter setting. Such an analysis does not integrate the performance of the numerous operating curves. In this paper we outline a methodology for summarizing many operating curves into a few performance curves. This methodology is adapted from the human psychophysics literature and is general to any detection algorithm. We demonstrated the methodology by comparing the performance of two line detection algorithms. The task was to detect the presence or absence of a vertical edge in the middle of an image containing a grating mask and additive Gaussian noise. We compared the Burns line finder and an algorithm using the facet edge detector and the Hough transform. To determine each algorithm's performance curve, we estimated the contrast necessary for an unbiased 75% correct detection as a function of the orientation of the grating mask. These functions were further characterized in terms of the algorithm's orientation selectivity and overall performance. An algorithm with the best overall performance need not have the best orientation selectivity. These performance curves can be used to optimize the design of algorithms.

This paper explores the interdependance of walking algorithm and limb workspace for the Multi-Appendage Robotic System (MARS). While MARS is a hexapedal robot, the tasks of defining the workspace and walking agorthm for all six limbs can be abstracted to a single limb using the constraint of a tripedal statically stable gait. Thus, by understanding the behavior of an individual limb, two walking algorithms have been developed which allow MARS to walk on level terain. Both algorithms are adaptive in that they continously update based on control inputs. The differences between the two algorithms is that they were developed for different limb workspaces. The simpler algorithm developed for a 2D workspace was implemented, resulting in smooth gait generation with near instantaneous response to control input. This accomplishment demonstrates the feasibility of implementing a more sophisticated algorithem which allows for inputs of: x and y velocity, walking height, yaw, pitch and roll. This algorithm uses a 3D workspace developed to afford near maximum step length.

Streszczenie:
An extended pattern search approach is presented for optimizing the placement of wind turbines on a wind farm. The algorithm will develop a two-dimensional layout for a given number of turbines, employing an objective function that minimizes costs while maximizing the total power production of the farm. The farm cost is developed using an established simplified model that is a function of the number of turbines. The power development of the farm is estimated using an established simplified wake model, which accounts for the aerodynamic effects of turbine blades on downstream wind speed, to which the power output is directly proportional. The interaction of the turbulent wakes developed by turbines in close proximity largely determines the power capability of the farm. As pattern search algorithms are deterministic, multiple extensions are presented to aid escaping local optima by infusing stochastic characteristics into the algorithm. This stochasticity improves the algorithm’s performance, yielding better results than purely deterministic search methods. Three test cases are presented: a) constant, unidirectional wind, b) constant, multidirectional wind, and c) varying, multidirectional wind. Resulting layouts developed by this extended pattern search algorithm develop more power than previously explored algorithms with the same evaluation models and objective functions. In addition, the algorithm’s layouts motivate a heuristic that yields the best layouts found to date.

We explore the use of policy approximations to reduce the computational cost of learning Nash equilibria in zero-sum stochastic games. We propose a new Q-learning type algorithm that uses a sequence of entropy-regularized soft policies to approximate the Nash policy during the Q-function updates. We prove that under certain conditions, by updating the entropy regularization, the algorithm converges to a Nash equilibrium. We also demonstrate the proposed algorithm's ability to transfer previous training experiences, enabling the agents to adapt quickly to new environments. We provide a dynamic hyper-parameter scheduling scheme to further expedite convergence. Empirical results applied to a number of stochastic games verify that the proposed algorithm converges to the Nash equilibrium, while exhibiting a major speed-up over existing algorithms.

Pipeline segmentation design is the first step to design alignment sheet. In this step, several rectangular boxes are used to cover pipeline and each box will become the basic unit of alignment sheet design. After studying various pipeline alignment sheet mapping technologies, the author found that traditional manual design method, which can take advantage of designers’ subjectivity, causes low work efficiency. By reviewing and studying existing works at home and abroad, the author believed that it is possible and feasible to develop an automatic segmentation algorithm based on existing curve simplification algorithms to improve to improve the efficiency of pipeline section design and alignment sheet mapping. Based on several classical curve simplification algorithms, the author proposed the automatic segmentation algorithm, which automatically adjusts the location of rectangular boxes according to the number of pipeline/circle intersection points and pipeline/ rectangular box intersection points. Finally, through comparing time and result with the traditional manual method, the author proved the algorithm’s effectiveness and feasibility.

Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) continue to be a global concern, especially since predicting bloom events including the intensity, extent, and geographic location, remain difficult. However, remote sensing platforms are useful tools for monitoring HABs across space and time. The main objective of this review was to explore the scientific literature to develop a near-comprehensive list of spectrally derived empirical algorithms for satellite imagers commonly utilized for the detection and quantification HABs and water quality indicators. This review identified the 29 WorldView-2 MSI algorithms, 25 Sentinel-2 MSI algorithms, 32 Landsat-8 OLI algorithms, 9 MODIS algorithms, and 64 MERIS/Sentinel-3 OLCI algorithms. This review also revealed most empirical-based algorithms fell into one of the following general formulas: two-band difference algorithm (2BDA), three-band difference algorithm (3BDA), normalized-difference chlorophyll index (NDCI), or the cyanobacterial index (CI). New empirical algorithm development appears to be constrained, at least in part, due to the limited number of HAB-associated spectral features detectable in currently operational imagers. However, these algorithms provide a foundation for future algorithm development as new sensors, technologies, and platforms emerge.

The raw signal algorithm velocity corrects and aligns raw inspections signals.

Streszczenie:
Axiom pinpointing has been introduced in description logics (DLs) to help the used understand the reasons why consequences hold by computing minimal subsets of the knowledge base that have the consequence in consideration. Several pinpointing algorithms have been described as extensions of the standard tableau-based reasoning algorithms for deciding consequences from DL knowledge bases. Although these extensions are based on similar ideas, they are all introduced for a particular tableau-based algorithm for a particular DL, using specific traits of them. In the past, we have developed a general approach for extending tableau-based algorithms into pinpointing algorithms. In this paper we explore some issues of termination of general tableaux and their pinpointing extensions. We also define a subclass of tableaux that allows the use of so-called blocking conditions, which stop the execution of the algorithm once a pattern is found, and adapt the pinpointing extensions accordingly, guaranteeing its correctness and termination.

Streszczenie:
Limitations in the human decision-making process restrict the technological potential of algorithms, which is also referred to as "algorithm aversion". This study uses a laboratory experiment with participants to investigate whether a phenomenon known since 1982 as the "decoy effect" is suitable for reducing algorithm aversion. For numerous analogue products, such as cars, drinks or newspaper subscriptions, the Decoy Effect is known to have a strong influence on human decision-making behaviour. Surprisingly, the decisions between forecasts by humans and Robo Advisors (algorithms) investigated in this study are not influenced by the Decoy Effect at all. This is true both a priori and after observing forecast errors.

Streszczenie:
In Description Logics (DLs), both tableau-based and automatabased algorithms are frequently used to show decidability and complexity results for basic inference problems such as satisfiability of concepts. Whereas tableau-based algorithms usually yield worst-case optimal algorithms in the case of PSpace-complete logics, it is often very hard to design optimal tableau-based algorithms for ExpTime-complete DLs. In contrast, the automata-based approach is usually well-suited to prove ExpTime upper-bounds, but its direct application will usually also yield an ExpTime-algorithm for a PSpace-complete logic since the (tree) automaton constructed for a given concept is usually exponentially large. In the present paper, we formulate conditions under which an on-the-fly construction of such an exponentially large automaton can be used to obtain a PSpace-algorithm. We illustrate the usefulness of this approach by proving a new PSpace upper-bound for satisfiability of concepts w.r.t. acyclic terminologies in the DL SI, which extends the basic DL ALC with transitive and inverse roles.
