Methane (CH4) is a potent greenhouse gas (GHG) and an important lever for mitigating global warming in the near future. Understanding its sources is therefore crucial, yet the anthropogenic fraction (60 %) appears to be underestimated in inventories. CH4 emissions retain large uncertainties at a regional scale. Current measurement networks such as ICOS (for GHG) and ACTRIS (for reactive compounds) provide data that could ultimately be used to separate the sources in time and space. However, approaches to synergistically use these data are lacking.Uncertainties in emission rates are particularly marked in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East (EMME), where large emissions occur. This region is known to be sensitive to climate change, has major concerns about air pollution and is undergoing significant development and hence GHG emissions. In the Middle East, oil and gas (OG) related CH4 emissions are expected to dominate other emission sectors.Among the volatile organic compounds, Non-Methane HydroCarbons (NMHC) such as light alkanes, are co-emitted with CH4 in OG supply chains. Thus, they have been identified as relevant tracers for characterizing CH4 emissions from this key sector. To address the challenges posed in the EMME region, our research in this thesis has been focused on investigating the capability of combined CH4/NMHC set of atmospheric remote measurements with source-receptor methodology to deliver insight into the CH4 emissions of the EMME region.A high-precision Picarro G2401 analyzer and two gas chromatographs with flame ionization detector were deployed during several field campaigns in the EMME region. Extensive datasets were obtained with co-localized observations of GHG and NMHC (C2 to C12). They can be used to identify and characterise local and regional sources of CH4 using hydrocarbon trace gas signals. Combined with Lagrangian modelling of the atmosphere, they can be used to further investigate the contribution of long-range transport to local sources and to assess the accuracy of CH4 emission inventories in the EMME region. The island of Cyprus is ideally located to document the chemical composition of contrasted air masses in the EMME region. The first continuous CH4 observations were performed on the island between February 2020 and November 2021 at a suburban site of the capital, Nicosia. NMHC measurements joined CH4 in February 2021. Over a period of several months between cold and warm periods, this campaign enabled the combined CH4 and NMHC measurement methodology to be evaluated and applied to the study of specific local emissions.Secondly, measurements were performed at a background site at the southeastern edge of Cyprus between December 2021 and February 2022. This three-month campaign set up in a mobile laboratory at a rural site during the winter aimed to focus on long-range regional signals originating from the Middle East (with as little local interference as possible). This work suggests that Middle Eastern emissions from the upstream OG stage are underestimated by almost half in the study area. Finally, a campaign carried out from a research vessel from Vigo (Spain) to Abu Dhabi (UAE) and around the Arabian Peninsula in November-December 2022 help to clarify, document and assess the regional emission influences. It also identified targets for future research on CH4 emissions and showed the major spatial discrepancies remaining within this specific region, especially in the estimation of the emissions from fuel exploitation activities.Ultimately, the experimental results obtained during this thesis provide an assessment of local and regional CH4 emissions sources in the EMME region. We highlighted the importance of ground-based observations for understanding CH4 emissions and targeting mitigation efforts. The use of light alkanes to disentangle sectoral contributions to CH4 emissions is promising and should be applied to long-term monitoring measurements

Christaller, FL. Dolphyne, i. Wilks, CL. -H. Perrot, R. S. Rattray, R. Turner, etc. . .

The study investigates the human rights violations that underlie widowhood practices in Cape Coast and Komenda in the Central Region of Ghana. Review of the relevant literature on widowhood practices suggests that widowhood practices are a global cultural phenomenon, which is not confined to Sub-Sahara Africa. A survey of relevant studies on the phenomenon suggests that there are two competing perceptions on African widowhood practices: (1) a dominant negative perspective and (2) a minor positive perspective. The dominant negative perspective, which receives overwhelming research attention, focuses only on the negative characteristics of widowhood while the minor positive perspective which receives scanty research attention, rejects the criticisms levelled against widowhood practices as being externally influenced by Christianity and Western Feminism. Various stakeholders within the Akan community were given an opportunity to retell their own versions of widowhood practices. In order to achieve this purpose, the research extracted competing narratives from all the multiple sample subgroups of the proposed study: widows; widow family heads; chiefs; widowhood ritual practitioners; elderly female supervisors of widowhood practices; an official from the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ); an official from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs (MOWAC); and an official from the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of Ghana. The study found out that despite legislative intervention and policy frameworks, the practice still persist among the Akan communities in Ghana. The reasons for the continued existence of such rituals are explained followed by recommendations for possible solutions.

Streszczenie:
This thesis investigates two post-nominal morphemes, bi and nʊ, in Akan (a Kwa language spoken mainly in Ghana). I analyze bi as an indefinite marker and nʊ as a definite marker. Bi occurs in different environments; the main two environments are the pronominal environment and the determiner environment where it follows the noun within a DP. These environments correlate with certain tonal variations. I argue that in the pronominal use, bi is a specific indefinite pronoun and is toneless. Its specificity status is achieved through a weak anaphoric relationship it shares with a previously-mentioned noun in the discourse or a deictic element. In its determiner use, bi is a specific indefinite which is interpreted via a choice function. It bears a high tone. The Akan morpheme nʊ is used for different functions. It is used as a third person singular pronoun, as a definite article, as a distal demonstrative marker and as a clausal marker. These uses correlate with some tonal alternations. I argue that when the morpheme is used as a pronoun, it is toneless; however when it is used as a determiner or a clause marker it is marked with a high tone. I also argue that the morpheme in all its different functions encodes one semantic value which is familiarity. I take familiarity to entail both hearer old and discourse old along the lines of Prince (1988).

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
This study investigates the grammar and semantics of verbs that describe separation events in Asante Twi (Akan), a Kwa (Niger-Congo) language spoken in Ghana. It adopts a constructionist approach combined with a 'monosemic bias' perspective in the analysis. It theoretical starting point is that contextual interpretations are derived from the interaction of the prototypical meanings of verbs and their arguments. A multi-method approach was used in data gathering: (i) compilation of verbs that code separation as well as sentences in which they are used from literary texts (bibles, and novels) and dictionaries. (ii) Descriptions of separation activities elicited using video-stimuli Bohnemeyer et al. (2001), 61 video clips depicting cutting and breaking events (fieldmanuals.mpi.nl) supplemented by 82 clips created by the author involving culturally appropriate objects (Agyepong 2015). (iii) Spontaneous narratives, and procedural discourses about cultural events/practices involving separation e.g. cooking, palm-wine tapping. (iv) Introspection based on the author's native speaker intuitions. The main findings of the thesis are that there are two central verbs in the separation domain in Akan: twá 'to cut' and bú 'to break'. There are, in addition, more specialized verbs for specific types of object separation, e.g. nú 'harvest palm fruit by poking with a bladed instrument' or pòrò 'to pluck fruit'. The choice of a particular verb in context is determined by the following parameters: instrument involvement, manner of separation, physical properties of entities as well as the end-state result of the situation. Crucially, the thesis further addresses the challenge of how to account for the interpretation of the typical as well as atypical argument realization patterns associated with the separation verbs. It shows how constructional meanings contribute to the interpretation of collocations of the verbs. Other principles such as coercion, addition and suppression of components in the lexical semantics of both the verbs and its arguments as well as cultural implicatures are invoked in the compositional process of calculating the contextual interpretations.

This dissertation which is a sémio-linguistic study of Akan tales, examines the passage from the oral to the written state of Akan tales especially through the processes of transcription and translation and the problems that the researcher encounters. Among the problems identified is that of “alteration” due to reformulation and trans-coding of the original text belonging to a people with a different “conception of the world”. The basis of the work is the theories of Jean Peytard, George Mounin, Edward Sapir, Benjamin Lee Whorf and Genevieve Calame-Griaule It further looks at the structural analysis of Akan tales in particular the notion of “polyphony” as underlined in the works of earlier researchers like Vladimir Propp, Jean Michel Adam and Denise Paulme among others. Finally, the work looks further at the notion of “variation” in the Akan tale examining the factors that cause these changes with regards to changes emanating from the same teller and those from different tellers. Earlier observations made by Annikki Kaivola-Bregenhoj and Veronika Karady-Gorog among others, are considered in this analysis

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
This is a two-part study that combines the study of several construction types in Akan with a psycholinguistic study. Part I is a syntactic study clause structure in Akan, interrogative sentences, resumptive pronouns and the issue of whether there is syntactic Wh-Movement in Akan. I argue that Akan is basically an in-situ language with regards to the placement of wh-words in questions. Questions with their question-words in pre-IP position are not the result of syntactic wh-movement: they are the result of the general focus marking process in the language which can affect any constituent in a sentence by base-generating it in (Spec, CP) and base-generating a resumptive pronoun (null or overt) in the corresponding argument position in the complement or comment clause/sentence. This analysis is based on such factors such as the absence of gaps, the use of resumptive pronouns even in positions such as the direct object position where movement is allowed, and the possibility of linking a wh-element into a position inside syntactic islands such as relative clauses, VP-complements, and temporal clauses. Part II deals with the acquisition of some of the structures discussed in Part I (in-situ wh-questions, the use of resumptive pronouns, and the sensitivity to the dichotomy between overt (animate) and null (inanimate) resumptive pronouns in the language). It also deals with issues of the processing of sentences involving long-distance dependencies. I argue, based on studies involving Akan and English, that islands constraints may be mimicked by processing principles though island constraints cannot be reduced to principles of sentence processing. It is suggested that a distinction should be made between parsing islands and processing islands and that while the two are not coextensive, they may overlap to a large extent in languages like English where the constraints hold, but not in a language like Akan where the constraints can be violated.

Appah, Clement. "Construction morphology : issues in Akan complex nominal morphology". Thesis, Lancaster University, 2013. http://eprints.lancs.ac.uk/81565/.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
Akan, like any other language, has both regular and irregular complex nominals (CNs). However, previous studies of Akan nominals have been constructive in approach, mostly adhering to a strict form of the principle of compositionality and assuming that the morphological, phonological and semantic properties of CNs can be accounted for fully by tweaking those of their constituents. Consequently, CNs whose properties cannot be so accounted for are either ignored or forced into the mould of regular ones. In this study, I do three things. First, I present a detailed empirically-based assessment of attested CNs in Akan based on a dataset of 1000 CNs drawn from a variety of written sources. This shows that Akan CNs may be grouped into four; compounds, affix-derived CNs, those formed by tonal changes and “lexicalized” forms, which have the form of phrases but occur as CNs and are mostly only partially compositional. Secondly, I present a detailed discussion of the formal and semantic properties of all the attested compounds and a subset of the lexicalized nominals. Thirdly, on the basis of the latter discussion, I examine what the formation and structure of CNs reveal about the interaction between morphology and syntax and about the architecture of the grammar. The analyses show that the formation of CNs in Akan may at once involve morphological and syntactic structure in a way that renders untenable the view that morphology and syntax constitute two completely different modules of the grammar which may be assumed to interact only because the output of the former is the input to the latter. The present study provides support for the constructional view of the grammar.

This thesis analyzes the role of political leadership in post-Soviet democratic transition in Kyrgyzstan by looking at the case of Askar Akaev. Despite the fact that a variety of components can be considered as relevant for the democratic transition process in Kyrgyzstan, due to the highly personalistic nature of Kyrgyz politics, the issue of political leadership needs to be addressed for this purpose. In that sense, the converse trajectories of Kyrgyz democratization (an initial democratic leap till mid-1990s which attracted world-wide attention and made Kyrgyzstan a promising candidate for democratization, afterward a democratic reversion and finally a slip to authoritarianism) correspond to the three stages in Akaev&
#8217
s political leadership style (his emergence as a reform-minded politician, his initial liberal policies in political and economic spheres and his gradual reversion to authoritarianism). As a result, when Askar Akaev was ousted from his office in March 2005 by a public protest, Kyrgyzstan was far away from its world-wide accepted initial trajectory to democracy and became more similar to other authoritarian Central Asian Republics

Streszczenie:

This study entails a constructive contribution towards a contemporary reinterpretation, within the Akan context, of the classic Christian notion of Christ&rsquo
s person and work as Mediator between God and humanity. Specifically, I endeavour to reinterpret aspects of the Christian confession of faith as formulated by the Council of Chalcedon (451) that, Jesus Christ is &ldquo
truly God&rdquo
(vere Deus) as well as &ldquo
truly human&rdquo
(vere homo). I build on the notion that the relationship between these two claims may also be understood in terms of the one &ldquo
person&rdquo
and the two &ldquo
natures&rdquo
of Jesus Christ. The work of Christ is reinterpreted from this perspective. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part, which covers the first four chapters, entail reviews of some of the dominant African Christologies &ndash
with particular reference to divine conqueror and ancestor Christologies. In these chapters, the adequacy of the mentioned Christologies is assessed with reference to the Nicene/Chalcedonian confessional definition concerning the person of Christ. The conclusion reached is that these Christologies do not adequately express the person of Christ as truly divine as well as truly human as defined by the first four ecumenical councils. As a result, these Christologies also express the work of Christ, particularly his atonement in a less adequate way.

Kissi, Seth. "Social identity in Hebrews and the Akan community of Ghana". Thesis, University of Pretoria, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2263/61186.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
Social identity in Hebrews and Akan Community of Ghana' is a social-scientific study of Hebrews. It explores how the warning passages of Hebrews can be understood in the light of social identity in both first-century Mediterranean society and Akan society of Ghana. To achieve this, the argument in the warning passages are examined by means of theories on social identity, ethnicity and personality of the Mediterranean society while relying on the data of the text of Hebrews for information on the social situation being addressed. The summary of findings is then examined through the lens of Akan concept of social identity for comparative purposes. The study involves definition and description of social-scientific criticism and its use of theories and models for biblical interpretation. It assesses the strength and weaknesses of the approach and how to mitigate its weaknesses. It also delineates the socio-cultural context of Hebrews to provide a background against which Hebrews should be understood. The Akan people of Ghana, and some of their relevant socio-cultural issues, are also given attention. A discussion of theories on ethnicity, ingroup and intergroup behaviour, as well as personality in the Mediterranean society comes with outlines of their relevant aspects for the study of Hebrews. These theories are applied to the study of the warning passages, after Hebrews 1 has been discussed in the light of social identity as the introduction to the study that sets the tone for the warning passages. A discussion of social identity in the Akan society is undertaken, and later becomes a lens for looking at the summary of social identity issues that emerged from the application to the warning passages the theories of ethnicity, ingroup/intergroup behaviour, and personality in the Mediterranean society. In the end, it was realised that the social institutions and scripts of both the Mediterranean and Akan societies offer similar perspectives for understanding the warning passages. The few differences that were seen had to do with some details about the related socials institutions and scripts, but these differences did not make any difference in the way the broader social institutions and scripts of both societies give meaning to the warning passages. The study established that the author found the social institutions and scripts in ethnicity, ingroup and intergroup behaviour and personality of the Mediterranean world appropriate ways of making his appeal to his audience for the desired responses to God and the Christian group. It further established that it is possible to understand the appeal of the author of Hebrews to his audience entirely in the light of social identity in the Akan society of Ghana. Such an Akan reading of Hebrews is possible only while holding the distinctively Jewish and Christian elements introduced into the author's arguments in one hand, and the social situation that necessitated the writing of Hebrews in the other hand.

Streszczenie:
While the thought of having computers recognize objects in images have been around for a long time it is only in the last 20 years that this has become a reality. One of the first successful recognition algorithms was called SIFT and to this day it is one of the most used. However in recent years new algorithms have beenpublished claiming to outperform SIFT. It is the goal of this report to investigate if SIFT still is the top performer 17 years after its publicationor if the newest generation of algorithms are superior. By creating a new data-set of over 170 test images with categories such as scale, rotation, illumination and general detectiona thorough test has been run comparing four algorithms, SIFT, KAZE, AKAZE and ORB. The result of this study contradicts the claims from the creators of KAZE and show thatSIFT has higher score on all tests. It also showed that AKAZE is at least as accurate as KAZE while being significantly faster. Another result was that whileSIFT, KAZE and AKAZE were relatively evenly matched when comparing single invariances that changed when performing tests that contained multiple variables. Whentesting detection in cluttered environments SIFT proved vastly superior to the other algorithms. This led to the conclusion that if the goal is the best possibledetection in every-day situations SIFT is still the best algorithm.

In 1965, during a trip to Africa, an African American visited the Akonedi Shrine of Larteh Kubease, Ghana. There, the priestess gave him a reading during which she told him the names of his enslaved ancestors, taught him elements of the religion practiced in the shrine and enstooled him as the “Chief of the Akan in America”. The aim of this dissertation is to study the formation of the transnational networks that, since 1965, are linking the Akonedi Shrine with various shrine houses in the United States and to analyze the way the “Akan” religion, as it is practiced in the Ghanaian sanctuary, has been adapted by American devotees, integrated into a new religious field and is today constitutive of complex identity constructions

Streszczenie:
My thesis proposes using the Akan single-tiered unitive perspective on reality in two ways: first, as a hermeneutical tool for reading and understanding African Christian theologies,* and second, as a means for opening up space in global conversations between African and western theologians on the relationship between the seen and unseen, the material and spiritual, and on the perceived fact-faith divide in the contemporary West. I have developed the term ‘single-tiered unitive perspective on reality’ to designate the idea, present in the literature under various other names, that the material and spiritual exist inseparably in an overlapping, permeable way that creates an interpretive landscape for the reading and writing of African Christian theologies. In considering the interpretive landscape which emerges from this single-tiered unitive perspective on reality, two terms become especially useful. The first is Andrew Walls’ ‘maps of the universe’, and the second is Kwesi Dickson’s ‘religio-culture’. Within the context of the single-tiered unitive perspective, these conceptual frames of reference provide us with secondary interpretive tools for analysing the work of the mostly Akan scholars and ideas discussed in this thesis, —particularly Kwame Bediako and his three-pronged use of identity as a new theological category. The single-tiered unitive perspective also provides the interpretive landscape—and various categories that are important in the make-up of that landscape – for what I am calling ‘analogical continuity’, which takes advantage of particular analogical ‘landing places’, or ‘bridges’ between the primal Akan and biblical ‘maps’ or conceptions of reality. I suggest that ‘analogical continuity’ offers a new way through the continuity-discontinuity debate by locating continuity at the level of the single-tiered perspective. Finally, use of the single-tiered unitive perspective sheds light on the contribution Akan theologians are making to the global theological conversation in two important areas: Christology and biblical anthropology. In these two areas I bring various Akan scholars into conversation with each other, using the interpretive lens of the single-tiered perspective to demonstrate where and why they differ even as they work from a common interpretive perspective on reality. *I use ‘African’ to refer to sub-Saharan Africa, with particular attention to Ghana.

Streszczenie:
Witchcraft and "exorcisms" have dominated African cultures and posed problems for African people. This thesis is a study of the current exorcistic ministry within a Pentecostal church in Ghana with reference to the Akan culture. The general opinion gathered from current anthropological studies on witchcraft is that the ultimate goal of exorcism is to become modernised. However, using interdisciplinary studies with a theological focus, the thesis departs from this, and contends that it is divinatory-consultation or an inquiry into the sacred and the search for meaning that underlies the current "deliverance" ministry, where the focus is to identify and break down the so-called demonic forces by the power of God in order to "deliver" people from their torment. It represents a further attempt to contextualise the gospel to African people. However, its preoccupation with demonisation and its exorcistic practices are found to bring Christianity into tension with the Akan culture, family ties and other religions. Therefore, to develop a properly safeguarded ministry of exorcism in an African context, the thesis examines contextualisation and suggests that it includes the integration of divinatory-consultation, which the thesis claims underlies the biblical concept of prayer, into African Christianity.

Streszczenie:
Akan society in Ghana is a covert gynocracy. The Akan Queen Mothers assume a background position despite being co-political rulers of Akan traditional political chieftaincy institutions with sole authority and power for electing a man to be enstooled as king or chief. This background position results directly from traditional cultural and social norms - “cultural politics” - that have existed in Ghana from pre-colonial times to the modern-day and reflect how wider Ghanaian society perceives women. Festivals are extremely important in Ghana with women playing a central role in festival celebrations. One such festival of national and international importance is PANAFEST which celebrates the ideals of Pan-Africanism. PANAFEST is dominated by men with women, apart from the Queen Mothers, playing a secondary role in the celebrations, only one day focuses on women's activities. This study investigates the implications of covert gynocracy for women‟s empowerment in Ghana through a case study of women in tourism, particularly PANAFEST, and the role of the Akan Queen Mothers therein. Promoting social harmony rather than gender equality, this post-modern feminist study interprets rich qualitative data generated from unstructured interviews with better-educated individuals and focus group discussions with less well-educated individuals at three PANAFEST destinations. The thesis discusses the structures that underpin Akan society and the power and authority of the Akan Queen Mothers as decision-makers, particularly in respect of kingship. It exposes the contradiction of the Queen Mothers‟ power and authority with their background position as covert gynocracy and the implications of this for women‟s empowerment. The thesis presents the Theory of the Giant Leap to encapsulate the enormous challenges for women‟s empowerment in Ghana through addressing covert gynocracy and male hegemony. The thesis concludes that there is no short-term panacea and that issues can only be addressed in the long-term through education.

Streszczenie:
This study employs a cognitive linguistics approach, conceptual metaphor theory (CMT) to investigate bilingual conceptual representation. The study analyses the metaphorical and metonymic expressions commonly used among Akan-English bilinguals in Ghana to talk about different aspects of two basic emotion concepts (ANGER and FEAR) when they speak English. On the one hand, findings from psycholinguistic research on the nature of the bilingual mental lexicon appear somehow inconclusive. On the other hand, cognitive linguistics research on human mental representation tends to focus on evidence from native/monolingual populations. Consequently, this study combines methods from the two related fields of research to explore the nature of the bilingual conceptual representation. In other words, the study analyses bilingual figurative language in order to test two psycholinguistics claims about bilingual conceptual representation. In order to do this, the study includes a cross-linguistic/cross-cultural analysis of the conceptualisation of ANGER and FEAR in Akan and English. A combined method of elicitation and native speaker's intuition was used to collect conventional metaphorical expressions of ANGER and FEAR (in English) among Akan-English bilinguals in Ghana. Conceptual metaphors that are believed to underlie these metaphorical expressions were then inferred for analysis. The bilingual metaphors (both linguistic and conceptual) were analysed in the light of conventional metaphors (linguistic and conceptual) of the two concepts among native/monolingual speakers of each of the bilinguals' two languages, Akan and English. Findings from this study show further support for the shared storage hypothesis. The findings also confirm the assertion that the bilingual's conceptual structure is not a simple addition of the cognitive processes associated with each of his/her languages (Kroll and De Groot 1997) but rather a product of a complex interaction between the two or more languages of the bilingual in intricate ways - what Pavlenko (2009) has called “a conceptual restructuring”.

1+ "a" particule + prop. 2. . .
This thesis aims to give a unified description of the polysemous and polyfunctional unit "se" (verb : "to deserve", "to be necessary", "to resemble". . . ; conjunction : "that", "if". . . , adverb; "as", "really". . . Etc. ) in akan, a language of the group kwa, spoken in ghana. The theoretical framework is antoine culioli's theory of enunciative and predicative operations. Through a number of genuine contexts of utterance, we first bring to light the properties which constitute the schema of operation of "se", ie. Conditions calling for "se" and prerequisite to its functioning on the one hand, and the working mechanism of "se" as an operation marker on the other. We proceed to show the relationship between "se"'s schema of operation and the multiplicity of the various contextual meanings generated in varied sets of sequences such as sn1+"se"+sn2, sn+sv+"se", "se"+sn+sv, prop. 1+"se"+prop. 2, ("se" 0) prop. 1 + "a" (particule) + prop. 2. . . Clues are also provided to syntactic and enunciative constraints related to "se". We claim that the unicity of "se" consists in referring to a pre-constructed and stabilized term or relation as a locator of specification. A systemization of semantic effects resulting from the different syntactic positions of "se" is established in the last section of this work

This article presents a situation description production experiment investigating the interaction between syntax and information structure in Akan, a tone language that belongs to the Kwa branch of the Niger- Congo family spoken in Ghana. Information structure was elicited via context questions that put the object in narrow informational focus or narrow corrective focus while controlling for the tonal structure of the target word. Contrary to the prediction that corrective focus is marked by fronting and morphological marking of the focused constituent the data suggest that the in-situ strategy is the preferred one.

Insulin secretion is a major physiological function triggered in the body upon glucose entry into pancreatic β cells. This process is naturally subject to modulation by numerous metabolites, neurotransmitters or hormones. Among the modulatory hormones, incretins, mainly Glucagon Like Peptide (GLP1), act on β cells as physiological amplifiers of glucose-dependent insulin secretion. Incretins are known to recruit the cAMP signaling transduction pathway and their effects on glucose homeostasis represent a current basis for promising anti-diabetic approaches. However, while physiological actions of incretins are well known, the molecular mechanisms underlying these actions are not fully understood. In this thesis, we based our work on the hypothesis that the PKA (cAMP-dependent protein kinase) might potentiate glucose-induced insulin secretion via direct phosphorylation of PKA targets at the level of the exocytosis components, through specific anchoring of the kinase to this microdomain by A-Kinase Anchoring Proteins (AKAPs).The present work involving specific molecular approaches, such as siRNA, cell-permeable peptide competitors, subcellular fractionations as well as confocal and ultrastructural analysis of β cells, culminated to provide compelling evidence that the RIIα PKA isotype is physically associated to mature insulin granules. We demonstrate that in pancreatic β cells, either suppression of RIIαPKA expression or endogenous disruption of RIIαPKA from AKAPs results in almost complete loss of GLP1-induced amplification of insulin secretion. In conclusion, the present work allowed the identification of RIIα as a crucial effector of the cAMP/PKA axis for the amplification by incretins of insulin secretion. This finding represents a first and important step towards the identification of the molecular partners involved in the GLP1-induced PKA-dependent potentiation of insulin exocytosis

The study aims to offer a new perspective by deconstructing conventional analysises, which most often remain confined to conceptions of imaginary folklore. Through a dramaturgical analysis of séké tchédi, the ritual is resituated in its ethnological framework as a cultural, religious, and politcal phenomenon, and as playful, tension-relieving space. Multiple questions have enabled reflection on this dramaturgical approach: how does the séké tchédi reveal itself as a dramatic creation? What is the role of play and of lived experience? What creative representations may we establish between the dramatic arts and séké tchédi? In responding to these questions, we aim to shed light on relations between theater and ritual and their modes of theatrical transposition. Thus, dramaturgical analysis of séké tchédi acts as a springboard for grasping for grasping the ritual's nature as simultaneously sacred and profane, in which the unexpected exists complimentaryly with a certain mise-en-abîme. --In examining the different elements and theatrical techniques of séké tchédi, this study adheres to a plurality of approaches as well as to a relation on the social and dramaturgical aspects of séké tchédi. Through this research we attempt to show that the ritual is conceived and represented by the community and for the ccommunity. Aesthetically, it reveals itself as a collective creation, a drama through which life and death collide, a game both visible and invisible through which social rebalancing and confrontation of powers take place, a momentary restoration of links between human beings and the invisible
