Pełny tekst źródłaThe purpose of this project was to fund a mobile wellness program for the homeless in Los Angeles County, California. This program will collaborate with service providers in the selected planning areas to promote and support the services of the program to the homeless. The host agency of this proposed project is the John Wesley Community Health Institute, located in Los Angeles County, California.
After conducting a review of the literature, the grant writer designed a program to provide primary care, behavioral health, and case management services to the homeless population. Specifically, this project will fund a mobile health clinic to offer services to four Service Planning Areas (SPAs) in Los Angeles County. The Annenberg Foundation was determined to be the most appropriate match for funding of the project.
The actual submission or funding of this grant was not required for the successful completion of the project.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis dissertation documents the evaluation of a community health pilot project initiated to care for people living with HIV and AIDS. The evaluation, which was conducted at the request of the project management, emphasises the importance of evaluation for project workers, participants, funders and policy makers, as well demonstrating the role that academics can play in supporting and informing the work of community projects. The evaluation was conducted in two stages. The formative evaluation was initiated in February 1994 and results presented to the project in August 1994. The second phase of the evaluation began in February 1995 and was presented to the project in October 1995. Formative evaluation: The objective of the formative stage was to provide the project with information that would assist in the development of an appropriate and sustainable model of care. The evaluation was based on qualitative methods and a record review of project documentation. In-depth interviews with PWA and their families and household members, observation on visits by project staff to clients' homes, interviews with project staff and committee members, and interviews with people involved HIV clinics in local hospitals, HIV/AIDS organisations and primary health care projects were conducted. The evaluation recommended: * A reduced focus on attendant home nursing of PWA. * A revision of the organisation of care, with professional nursing staff passing more responsibility to the community home-carers. * The extension of services offered to include secondary prevention of AIDS-related illness and increased psychosocial services. * The adoption of the principles of primary health care. Secondary evaluation: The main objective of this phase of the evaluation was to obtain a more quantitative description of clients' experiences of the project. A simple random sample (N=36) of 50% of the project's clients were interviewed to determine their demographic and health profiles; the nature of their involvement with the project; their needs and the extent to which these had been met by the project; their assessment of the services; and their HIV/AIDS knowledge.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis dissertation is a process evaluation of Mbekweni Area Development Programme (MADP)'s HIV/AIDS project. The MADP is a programme that is implemented by World Vision South Africa. The aim of the process evaluation was to assess whether the HIV/AIDS project was implemented as intended. HIV/AIDS is a global problem, particularly prominent in South Africa. It has negatively affected families and communities resulting in increased social and economic burdens. The HIV/AIDS project at MADP uses prevention and care programmes to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS in targeted areas of Mbekweni. In order to achieve this aim, the project uses the following programme activities: home visitation, home-based care, life skills, material support and awareness campaigns. To conduct the process evaluation, programme records, interviews with three key informants and questionnaires with 35 programme staff were used to assess the programme?s implementation. Findings from the evaluation show that the programme activities are largely being implemented as intended by the organisation. The HIV/AIDS project is being delivered to the intended beneficiaries and all the activities are being implemented as intended by the organisation. However, to improve the effectiveness of the project a structured

Pełny tekst źródłaENGLISH ABSTRACT: HIV/AIDS has been seen as a thorn in the Corporate World's flesh. It is destroying the workforce like a swarm of locust on a wheat field. The Government Departmental Sectors are no exceptions. This paper has been written after a through project that was undertaken at the Department of Transport and Public Works in Cape Town. It was found that there is a great need for HIV/AIDS Education and Life skills Training amongst all Government Departments. The objectives of the researcher were also based on the ILO's document and our South African Labour Law. The employees at 7 (Seven) District Offices were educated and workshoped on HIV/AIDS Education. It was impossible to have all three Employee Assistant Programmes conducted within 7 (Seven) months of the project. The programmes for HIV/AIDS Education and Training entailed Pre-Awareness, Awareness and Post-Awareness. Only the Pre- Awareness programme was completed with a bit of Awareness was covered. In the workplace situation, time means money and it seems as if less time is allocated to the health part of the employees. Common and better methods in facilitating for HIV/AIDS Education and Trainings were by "Cascade Model, On-Job-Training (OJT) or Front Line Training (FLT) and Workshop Sessions" seem to be more appropriate, yielding better communication skills between the employees and employers. A simple questionnaire was constructed on the basis that the sample group was workshopped. The response was great and constructive comments were received from the employees, for example a question was "Do you find it good to celebrate the 09th - 15th February: Condom Week; 16th May: International AIDS Candle Memorial Day and 01st December: World AIDS Day"? Answer: YES - It creates awareness and unites people for the same course. It became interesting to the researcher in noticing how HIV/AIDS Education and Life Skills Training(HAELST) is very much needed in both Corporate/Private Sectors and Government Departments. In conclusion, recommendations are suggested to all Government Departmental and Private Sectors in HIV/AIDS Education and Training. The ball remains in the Corporate World to apply them as a tool to avoid loosing well qualified and skilful employees because of HIV/AIDS.

HIV/AIDS infection is a serious threat to the health and welfare of India. HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STI) are primarily propagated through heterosexual intercourse in India. Sex workers having multiple partners are considered to be conduits of virus transmission. Hence interventions targeting sex workers form a significant part of India's effort to curb the HIV/AIDS pandemic within its borders. The Sonagachi Project is a HIV/AIDS intervention program in India that targets sex workers. The initiative is being undertaken in a red light district of Calcutta, India. The district, which houses more than 50,000 sex workers, is the largest of its kind in South and South-East Asia. The project is spearheaded by the sex workers themselves, who act as peer outreach workers, and there are no external organizations involved. Statistics from UNAIDS show a significant drop in HIV/AIDS prevalence rate and significant increase in condom usage in Sonagachi after the project was implemented. The project achieved results like unionization of the sex workers, and formation of micro-credit societies and vocational training centers. The different facets of the Sonagachi Project were examined in the current dissertation. The articulation of trafficking and sex work in the formulation of global HIV/AIDS policy documents was assessed to understand the relationship between trafficking and sex work. The Sonagachi Project's stance on redefining sex work, legalization of sex work and rejection of rehabilitation propositions was explored. Environmental and structural barriers to health were analyzed and the impact of the contextualization of sexual health behavior on HIV/AIDS intervention initiatives studied by examining the case of the Sonagachi Project. The application of community mobilization as a strategic intervention method in HIV/AIDS harm reduction and awareness was explored by assessing the strategies of the Sonagachi Project. Finally the participatory framing of health discourse and practice in the Sonagachi Project was analyzed. For my dissertation I performed in-depth interviews of 37 sex workers and 5 project workers in Sonagachi. I reviewed policy documents of global aid organizations and project documentation from the Sonagachi Project such as research papers, internal project reports and unpublished manuscripts produced by the sex workers' union, and results of surveys performed by the sex workers' union and non-governmental organizations. The implications of the dissertation findings will extend beyond the red light district of Calcutta and provide a useful paradigm of sustainable intervention among historically marginalized populations.
