Streszczenie:
This paper describes a heat treatment process using dual aging for the A7050 aluminum alloy with the Taguchi method to optimize process parameters. The current study considers micro hardness and electrical conductivity as optimization criteria. Pre-aging temperature, pre-aging time, re-aging temperature, and re-aging time are important factors influencing these optimization criteria. Experiment results show that re-aging temperature is the most significant parameter for electrical conductivity, and both aging times are important influence factors for micro hardness performance. The optimal hardness for A7050 heat treatment conditions are pre-ageing temperature 120 °C, pre-ageing time 12hrs., re-aging temperature140 °C, and re-aging time 8 hrs., respectively. The best electrical conductivity parameters are pre-ageing temperature 120 °C, pre-ageing time 4 hrs., re-aging temperature180 °C, and re-aging time 24 hrs., respectively. The current study obtained contributing individual parameters for hardness, and electrical conductivity in dual aging of heat treatment.

Streszczenie:
For clarifying the applying feasibility of hindered amine light stabilizers in asphalt binder, two types of hindered amine light stabilizers were chosen as a UV ageing resistance modifier and the modified asphalt was prepared with a selected UV ageing resistance modifier. The ultraviolet aging testing method of asphalt materials was proposed for UV ageing behavior characterization. Under the condition of different frequencies, the impact of UV ageing resistance modifier on asphalt was investigated through using the frequency sweep test of DSR. Under the effect of ultraviolet aging, the variation of thermal properties of UV ageing resistance-modified asphalt was deeply analyzed by means of a temperature scanning test of DSR following the increase of temperature. The change law of the surface morphology of light stabilizer-modified asphalt was characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM) dynamically with the UV aging time extension. The research results showed that the hindered amine light stabilizer could improve the high temperature performance of asphalt and achieve the UV aging behavior of asphalt materials effectively. Meanwhile, the corresponding reaction mechanism was explored at the microscopic level.

Abstract Aging has profound effects on facial biometrics as it causes change in shape and texture. However, aging remains an under-studied problem in comparison to facial variations due to pose, illumination and expression changes. A commonly adopted solution in the state-of-the-art is the virtual template synthesis for aging and de-aging transformations involving complex 3D modelling techniques. These methods are also prone to estimation errors in the synthesis. Another viable solution is to continuously adapt the template to the temporal variation (ageing) of the query data. Though efficacy of template update procedures has been proven for expression, lightning and pose variations, the use of template update for facial aging has not received much attention so far. Therefore, this paper first analyzes the performance of existing baseline facial representations, based on local features, under ageing effect then investigates the use of template update procedures for temporal variance due to the facial age progression process. Experimental results on FGNET and MORPH aging database using commercial VeriLook face recognition engine demonstrate that continuous template updating is an effective and simple way to adapt to variations due to the aging process.

Polypropylene reinforced by hemp fibers composites were prepared by injection method. An aging chamber was used to simulate and accelerate the natural ageing process. The influence of moisture and UV aging on the mechanical properties of the composites is studied in this paper. A modified law of mixtures applying to polypropylene/hemp fibers composites is proposed. The microstructures of the composites during aging treatment were analyzed by means of digital microscope. We can see that the moisture and UV aging reduced the mechanical properties of the composites. The UV aging is more penalizing on the mechanical properties of composites, compared to the moisture aging after 4 weeks of exposure.

Abstract In recent years, active aging became a concept progressively considered by policy makers in Italy. A national project for creating a multilevel and co-managed coordination of active aging policies was launched in 2019 by the Italian Government and the National Institute of Health and Science on Ageing (IRCCS INRCA). A systematic review of active aging policies was conducted at both national and regional level. Results showed that national policies still reflect the general categorical fragmentation of Italian welfare system, although substantial developments were found in some sectors, i.e. prolonging working life, supporting families, social inclusion, and healthy ageing. Ten out of twenty-one regions have approved laws dedicated to active aging, although in most cases these laws are too recent to show impact. National and regional policy makers still need to overcome several cultural, coordination and fragmentation challenges for improving active aging policies and harmonise them with societal needs.

The reliable and representative ageing of asphalt samples in the laboratory is critically important to research on asphalt durability, waste material recycling and rejuvenation treatments. However, standard laboratory ageing protocols omit ultraviolet radiation and moisture, and are also based on a universally applied oven temperature and ageing duration. The aim of this research was to demonstrate the importance of ultraviolet radiation in laboratory asphalt aging, motivated by the need for more realistic ageing protocols. Asphalt cores were thermally aged in a standard laboratory oven for 98 days, while other cores were aged for the same period in a weathering chamber that combined thermal–oxidative (heat) and photo-oxidative (ultraviolet irradiation) aging. The bitumen was then extracted from the top, middle and bottom of each asphalt core, and tested for rheological, chemical, and compositional properties. The results were used to compare the effects of the aging protocols, and the effects of depth below the pavement surface. It was concluded that accelerated laboratory asphalt ageing must include photo-oxidation, in combination with thermal oxidation. It was also concluded that both chemical and rheological properties were effective indicators of extracted asphalt binder aging, although the rheological testing was preferred.

As the global trend of aging continues to intensify, there will inevitably be more complex and diverse aging-related problems. Designers have a responsibility to explore the possible outcomes of the future and solve the ageing-related problems that will be faced in the future. Based on the Future Cone, the Double Diamond Model and the IDEO Method Cards, this study proposes a new model to guide the design practice of future aging issues in the context of aging. With the aim of validating and refining the framework, an ageing designer workshop was held, in which participants were asked to imagine, explore and express ideas about future ageing-related issues. The workshop was used to refine the proposed model. Specifically, the model includes a future concept, a design guidance process based on the Double Diamond Model, and tools that can be applied at all stages of design, which can help designers to generate ideas and solutions for future aging problems, as well as collectively lead society toward a more desirable future. Moreover, this study explores broader directions for the development of the model and provides a reference for continued research into this topic in the future.

The performance of asphalt pavement will deteriorate gradually due to oxidation, also named the ageing of asphalt binders. In this study, the research progress on the multiscale evaluation of asphalt aging behaviour in the past decade was reviewed to further analyse the evolution law of asphalt aging behaviour and determine the asphalt aging mechanism. Firstly, artificial aging methods were introduced, the factors affecting asphalt aging behaviour were analysed, and the changes of asphalt properties before and after aging were identified. Secondly, the methods and research progress in terms of the evaluation of asphalt aging degrees were summarised from the macro-, mesoscopic-, micro-, and nanoscales. Finally, considering extensively studied rheological properties as an example, the correlations among the rheological properties of asphalt in the aging process and the conventional physical properties, chemical composition, microscopic properties, nano-molecular dynamics, and other parameters were analysed. The results show that various scales are interrelated, and the multiscale evaluation of asphalt aging can provide a more comprehensive prediction of the extent of asphalt aging. The correlation between multiple scales enables a thorough analysis of the mechanism of asphalt aging and the evaluation of asphalt aging behaviour at multiple scales.

In contrast with the elaboration of still wines, the impact of barrel aging before the “prise de mousse” on the aging potential of Champagne base wines has not been studied so far. In the present study, the oxidative stability and related molecular fingerprints of Chardonnay Champagne base wines were reported after 1 year of on lees ageing in new oak barrels for two consecutive vintages. Regardless of the vintage, on lees ageing in new oak barrels improved the wines’ oxidative stability estimated by DPPH assay at 1 year, while UHPLC-Q-ToF-MS molecular profiling showed clear chemical modifications according to the ageing period. Oak wood molecular ellagitannins followed a linear extraction during barrel ageing for both vintages. However, the wines’ antioxidant metabolome composed by antiradical and nucleophilic compounds clearly appeared vintage- and barrel-aging dependent. These results enrich the understanding of white wines antioxidant metabolome and improve the knowledge of the ageing potential of Chardonnay Champagne base wines by integrating vintage- and barrel-ageing effects.

Aims: The main aim of this study was to use specific data from the literature on ageing, correlating this with the pesticide contamination, in order to understand the relationship with an increasingly ageing population. Study Design: A systematic review was performed. Place and Duration of Study: Laboratory of Biomathematics of the Federal University of Alfenas, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, between April 2023 and August 2023. Methodology: A systematic search of articles was performed using the CAPES Periodic platform, a searcher from the Education Ministry of Brazil that contains Web of Science, Scopus, MedLine, from August 2020 to May 2023. For this review, the subject’s “aging theory”; “neuroscience and pathologies to aging”; “aging and aging-associated changes”; “pesticides and pesticide toxicity”; “pesticide toxicity and neurotoxicity”; “longevity and healthy aging”; “aging human and pesticides” were searched together using the type of material “articles” in English language. Some articles about “population growth”; “world population”; “population-aging” were used for epistemological composition of this work content subjects. Results: From the 19.720 articles after the exclusion and the inclusion criteria made with the subjects most pertinent to the objectives of this work; 19.570 articles were excluded, remaining 150 ones, of which 116 were qualitative in scope and 34 quantitative. Conclusion: The complex relationship between the pesticide contamination and the condition of the exposed individual may be associated with premature ageing and a greater susceptibility to debilitating age-related diseases. Although technology is increasingly improved in its innovations, health and environmental regulations have not been able to rid the production processes of their potential to pollute the environment and cause health problems for those exposed to them.

An ever-aging population has caused an increase in the prevalence of diseases which occur in the elderly like diabetes and cancer; and autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis (RA). On the other hand, ageing also causes an increased susceptibility to infections, reactivation of latent infections and a poorer vaccine response. Together, this ageing-related decline in immunity is called immunosenescence and the associated ageing-related inflammation is called inflamm-aging. In this brief review, we describe the changes seen with ageing in innate and adaptive immunity and how these lead to the various peculiarities associated with ageing in the immune system. TEMRA cells, Senescence associated secretory phenotype (SASP) and exhausted T cells are the main changes that occur in ageing T cells. Age-associated B cells (ABCs) contribute to changes associated with autoimmunity in elderly. In the innate arm, the macrophages-led inflamm-aging cause an overall net pro-inflammatory state. However, the macrophages have reduced phagocytosis leading to accumulation of necrotic and apoptotic debris. We also attempt to explain how immunosenescence and inflamm-aging cause defective vaccine responses and an increased predisposition to autoimmune diseases. As the average life expectancy of the world continues to increase, this is not just a curiosity to study at whim, but an indispensable part of medicine in the near-future.

The strain-aging of low alloyed, multiphase high-strength steels with strain-induced austenite to martensite transformation was studied. The influence of prestrain, aging time, and temperature dependence of the static strain aging was carried out. Ageing temperatures between 60 and 220 ∘ C and aging times from 20 to 10,000 min were investigated. The choice of steel composition allowed studying the influence of alloying elements, such as Si and Al, on the static strain aging behavior. Samples after aging were studied using light-optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and in-depth transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The Harper model was used to describe the precipitation mechanisms occurring during aging. The study of thin foils after aging using TEM showed the precipitation of low temperature transition carbides in the microstructure, which was observed between 60 and 5000 min. By using X-ray diffraction, it was revealed that aging at 170 ∘ C for a long time caused a slight decrease of the retained austenite volume fraction, but the C content remained constant.

The effect of natural pre-aging time (from 0.1 to 10000 h) on mechanical response during subsequent artificial aging of EN AW 6063 aluminium alloy at 170°C was investigated using Vickers microhardness measurements, tensile test analysis and transmission electron microscopy characterization. The microhardness and tensile strength of EN AW 6063 alloy increased slightly with natural aging time. Afterward, the artificial ageing from 18 to 20 hours induced the maximum increasing of hardness and strength for variously naturally pre-aged states of alloy. But, it was found that when pre-aging time was prolonged from 0.1 h to 10000 h, the mechanical response of artificial aging applied for the pre-aged alloy states was slightly improved. It was suggested, that as pre-aging time was increased, the size of β'-phase particles formed in solid solution of pre-aged alloy state during artificial aging was decreased and their amount was increased.

Introduction According to the seventh national population census in China, the proportion of people aged 65 and above in the population reached 13.5%. The aging trend is more pronounced in rural areas, indicating that China has entered an aging society. This article focuses on agricultural carbon emissions in the context of aging, studying the impact of rural population aging on agricultural carbon emissions. Study objectives Under the background of deepening population aging, let us discuss how to maintain the green and sustainable development of agriculture in China. Methodology Fixed effects and mediating effects models are used. Technical efficiency is used as a mediating variable to discuss the relationship between rural population ageing, technical efficiency and agricultural carbon emissions. Results This paper adopts the classical carbon emission calculation theory of IPCC to measure agricultural carbon emissions from 2010 to 2019, and China’s plantation carbon emissions show an "inverted U-shaped" trend, reaching a high level in 2015 and then starting to decline. In addition, the fixed-effects benchmark regression found that the aging of the rural population promotes agricultural carbon emissions, and the technical efficiency of agriculture suppresses agricultural carbon emissions. Finally, the mediating effect model is applied to explore the relationship between the three. Using technical efficiency as the mediating variable, it is found that under the masking effect, rural population aging will weaken agricultural carbon emissions through technical efficiency, thus achieving the suppression of agricultural carbon emissions. Policy recommendation The formulation and modification of agricultural carbon-reducing policy row policies should take full account of the broader context of rural population ageing; increase the interconnectedness and interaction between rural population ageing and agricultural production technology, and actively play a positive role in promoting the efficiency of agricultural technology as a result of rural population ageing; and, in accordance with the actual situation of agricultural research, appropriately increase the strength of financial support for agriculture to improve agricultural technology and promote low-carbon development in agriculture.

The degradation of polyamide (PA) and polyester (PES) polymers is under intense study due to growing concerns about the accumulation of plastics in soils and oceans. Previous studies confirm that ageing degrades PA and PES at the molecular level. However, researchers have not addressed the development of protocols for aging textile materials in swimming pools, and few data are available on the effects of aging on comfort and durability. This research addresses the development of the aging protocol for PA and PES swimwear materials, its implementation, and the evaluation of properties that assure comfort and durability after specific periods of exposure. The tests include microscopic analysis, tensile tests, determination of fluid transport phases and drying period. The results revealed changes in the surface of the material in terms of fibrillation (more pronounced after outdoor aging). There is a positive correlation between the exposure duration and the breaking force (R2 ranges from 0.85 to 0.98), with a stronger correlation for the PA materials. The decrease in breaking force due to aging is up to 40%, indicating significantly reduced durability. The change in breaking force follows the changes in mass (R2 = 0.867). In terms of comfort assurance, outdoor aging of materials should have a greater negative impact than indoor ageing.

Abstract Museums represent an evolving and under-recognized network of opportunity for examining aging while supporting optimal aging across the lifespan. Museums bind communities together in a civic body by “…identifying its highest values, its proudest memories, and its truest truths.”(Duncan, 1991). They represent a secular ritual of the modern state in which the spiritual heritage of the nation is offered as a public reinforcement of political values. Art museums are also sites which enable individuals to achieve liminal experience - to move beyond the psychic constraints of mundane existence, step out of time, and attain new, larger perspectives. The interaction and potential synergies between museums and aging have been insufficiently explored in gerontological scholarship, with the existing emphasis largely focussing on facilitating access to older people and those with age-related health conditions. This symposium reflects and magnifies the networking of GSA with a major art museum through an Educational Site Visit during GSA 2019 to the Blanton Art Museum. It proposes to review museums and ageing in a broader context, exploring the context within which aging is represented in the discourse of heritage and museums, museums networking to provide a repository of late-life creativity, networks of older people as a key resource and client group for museums, life-course and inter-generational engagement with museums. Finally, the insights that the ageing of art works provide for curating the longevity dividend through developing scholarly networks between gerontologists and curators.

Yellow, orange, red and brown pigments are formed by air oxidation of single polyphenols or by thermal degradation of sugars to caramels. Caramels increase their colours during anaerobic heating or decrease them by air oxidation. Epicatechin and caramel undergo reversible redox reaction followed by degradation and/or polymerisation at beer aging. That is why both of these colour compounds, besides acting as acid/alkali indicators, can also represent redox indicators that gradually become irreversible. These reactions are accelerated by transient metals or buffering solutions and are therefore more distinct in tap or brewing water than in deionised water. The kind of the brewing water then predetermines not only the beer attributes but also the course of beer aging. Coloured pigments can be partially bleached by reducting agents such as yeast oxidoreductase enzymes and the colour can be then recovered by oxidation; this depends on their polymerisation degree. Methylene blue and methyl red can be used as artificial oxidation-reduction indicators for the study of the redox potential changes because they act reversibly or irreversibly under aerobic or anaerobic conditions, respectively.

In order to develop a perspective of the new metastable β titanium alloy——TB-13, the influence of ageing treatments on the microstructure and properties has been studied. The results show that TB-13 alloy displays high age strengthening effect and fine precipitation. During the one-step aging process, the higher the aging temperature, the coarser the α plate thickness. As a result, TB-13 alloy shows the lower the strength and the higher the ductility. The best combination of strength and ductility is acquired in the TB-13 alloy after solution treatment at 1133K following aging at 813K for 16h. The ultimate strength is near 1400MPa and the specific elongation is 7.0% by ageing. At last, the details of the transformation mechanism and microstructural evolution accompanying ω-assisted α nucleation during continuous heating are discussed.

In this paper, carbon fiber reinforced resin matrix composites were produced by stacking eight pieces of carbon fiber woven plain fabric and subjected to accelerated ageing. Accelerated ageing was carried out in oven at 180°C for three different time intervals (60 hours, 120 hours and 180 hours). The influence of different ageing time intervals at 180°C on tensile properties of laminated composites was examined, compared with the composites without aging. The appearance and damage forms of these laminated composites were investigated. The results revealed that the tensile strength of the laminates declined significantly after long term accelerated aging at 180°C. The average tensile strengths of composite samples aged 60 hours, 120 hours, and 180 hours period of time at 180°C are 80.36%, 79.82%, 76.57% of average tensile strength of composite samples without aging, respectively. The high temperature accelerated aging makes the resin macromolecular structure in the composites changed, and then the adhesive force between fiber bundles and resin declines rapidly which result in the tensile strength of composites aged decrease. This research provides a useful reference for long term durability of laminated/epoxy resin composites.

Abstract The global increase in life expectancy is one of the greatest achievements of the last half century. However, the demographic developments towards an older population also challenge many parts of the society, especially the health care. Promoting healthy ageing is therefore one of the most important commitments of the 21st century and to succeed, scientifically based knowledge of older individuals’ health- and care requirements are needed. To better understand the individual and population aging process, the National E-infrastructure for Aging Research (NEAR) was founded in 2018 to build and run a national infrastructure by integrating existing databases from the 15 major longitudinal studies on aging and health in Sweden. To show the added value of NEAR, this symposium will present results from four ongoing NEAR projects: 1) Developing a metric of global brain integrity in multiple Swedish studies with different scanners; 2) Functional aging trajectories and drug interactions; 3) Long-term prediction of dementia using machine learning algorithms; 4) The new aging – how different aspect of ageing has changed over half a century. The creation of national infrastructures is needed to achieve broad, multidisciplinary research perspectives that cannot be achieved by individual databases. Moreover, to address the increased health demands of an older population and enhance new opportunities for aging research, a critical mass of data is needed to increase sample sizes, variations, representativeness, and generalizability. Ultimately, this can lead to the identification of sustainable intervention strategies for better health and care for older persons during the coming decades.

Abstract Understanding biologic aging will afford opportunities for novel interventions to enhance human healthspan. If ageing can be slowed, the effect would be simultaneous protection from many of the chronic diseases. One strategy is to use animal model organisms to find common pathways that modulate ageing and then to seek methods for their human manipulation. The TOR pathway is one point of convergence and a clinically approved drug targeting the TOR kinase, rapamycin, extends murine lifespan and healthspan. Many more small molecules are being added to the list of anti-ageing compounds. Here, I use examples of interventions to conceptualize how agents extending healthspan might improve human health. We are entering a stage in aging research where it is imperative to test ageing interventions in humans and several strategies are contemplated. The potential to directly impact human healthspan is emerging from ageing research and this approach, if successful, will have global impact.

Abstract Aging in place is interpreted differently across times and disciplines in the literature. Multiple interpretations of aging in place can lead to differences in expectations and goals when planning products, services, and technologies for older adults. We conducted a historical review across databases in the fields of anthropology, architecture, gerontol-ogy, medicine, psychology, and sociology to explore the evolution of ‘aging in place’ term across time and disciplines. We included articles that used the terminology “aging in place” or “ageing in place” in titles, abstracts, keywords, or subject. From the aging in place definition excerpts collected, we identified the preliminary themes and grouped them into three main themes: people, space, and time. Although the narrative of aging in place is highly related to living spaces, the cause and influencing factors are tied beyond the space. Person and time-related factors that are related to the aging experience im-pact the way aging in place is defined. When designing products, services, and technolo-gies to support successful aging in place, designers, researchers, policymakers, and care-givers should be aware that aging in place is at the intersection of personal, spatial, and temporal elements of older adults’ lives. Based on the multiple perspectives of disci-plines, we concluded that aging in place is beyond the matter of location, but also takes into account the person’s capacity and the changes over the person’s lifespan. Founda-tional understanding of the multiple factors that influence aging in place is critical to support older adults to have a healthy and optimal aging experience.
