Introduction: Puberty in girls is the phase of transition from childto mature woman. Menarche is the first menstrual period at puberty. The individual then becomes functionally capableof reproduction. Normally, it is a coherent process involving estrogen production, increased somatic growth anddevelopment of secondary sexual characteristics. Objective: To investigate the normal menstrual cycles and menstrualdisorders in adolescent age group. Study design: Population based survey. Setting: Study was conducted in thevarious schools of Multan city. Material and Methods: 500 school going girls. Results: The pattern of menstrualbleeding among Pakistani girls. Majority of the (i.e. 170 (34%) girls had normal pattern of bleeding. The day of heaviestflow was day 2 i.e. 292(49%) followed by day 1 i.e. 192(38.4%) of the cases. Menorrhagia as revealed by passage ofclots was present in 65(13%) of the cases. Majority of girls had their cycle duration between 28-30 days. More than85% of girls used home made pads during periods. Majority 156(48.4%) of girls had dysmenorrhoea for 1st and 2nd dayof the cycle. Dysmenorrhoea was found to be present in 322(64.4%) of the girls. About half of subjects developeddysmenorrhoea with the onset of menarche and about quarter started having dysmenorrhoea 3 months after menarche.Minority of the girls received education or information regarding periods prior to menarche. The majority was educatedeither with or after the menarche. Majority of subjects belonged to middle socio-economic status. Majority of girls hadregular periods since menarche. Majority of the remaining had irregular periods for sometimes due to anovulatorycycles which were spontaneously normalized. Those girls who had irregular periods, in majority of cases the irregularitywas corrected spontaneously after 3 months probably favouring earlier anovulatory cycles. Premenstrual symptomswere complained by 258(51.6%) of the girls. Majority 248(49.6%) of girls took menstruation as normal change of life.In majority 248(62.5%) of cases the mother and elder sister provided the information. Minerals play very important role in physiology and metabolism of all living organisms. Plasma macro and micro minerals profile of 226 dogs reported to Referral Veterinary Polyclinic (RVP), IVRI, Izatnagar, belonging to different age and being provided with vegetarian homemade diet by their owners was assessed for estimation of macro (Ca, P, Mg, Na, K) and microminerals (Cu , Fe, Zn, Se and Co), and their status analysis. Selected dogs were further subdivided into six (0 - 1 yr, 1 - 2 yr, 2 - 3 yr, 3 - 4 yr, 4 - 5 yr and >5 yr) different age groups. Present study revealed deficiency of plasma macro (Ca, P and Mg) and micro minerals (Cu , Fe, Zn, Se) in the surveyed dogs.

Streszczenie:
Purpose. To identify and study causes of vitreous hemorrhage (VH) in pediatric age group and to investigate factors predicting visual and anatomical outcomes.Procedure.A retrospective review of patients aged 16 years or less with the diagnosis of vitreous hemorrhage from January 2005 until December 2010.Results.A total number of 230 patients (240 eyes) were identified. Traumatic vitreous hemorrhage accounted for 82.5%. In cases of accidental trauma, final visual acuity of 20/200 was significantly associated with visual acuity of ≥20/200 at presentation and the absence of retinal detachment at last follow-up. Patients with nontraumatic vitreous hemorrhage were significantly younger with higher rates of enucleation/evisceration/exenteration and retinal detachment at last follow-up compared to traumatic cases.Conclusion.Trauma is the most common cause of VH in pediatric age group. In this group, initial visual acuity was the most important predictor for visual outcome, and the presence of retinal detachment is a negative predictor for final good visual outcome. The outcome is significantly worse in nontraumatic cases compared to traumatic cases.

Streszczenie:
The diagnosis and management of cholesteatoma in children remains controversial. In the past 15 years, the senior author (S.C.P.) has treated 320 patients with cholesteatoma. Patients 18 years and younger composed 40% (125) of the overall group and are the basis for this report. The patient data were compiled using the history, physical examination, audiograms, radiographs, patient questionnaires, surgical findings, and postoperative observations. The surgical treatment selected was determined by the extent of disease, the configuration of the mastoid, and a clinical assessment of eustachian tube function. A middle ear tympanotomy approach was used in 17% of the patients, a canal wall up procedure in 31 %, and a canal wall down procedure in 52.3 %. The average clinical follow-up was 3.9 years, with the range being from 3 months to 13.5 years. Hearing was maintained or slightly improved in a majority of cases. Residual disease occurred in 8 % of patients, and recurrent disease in only 3 %.

Streszczenie:
Asthma is one of the most prevalent chronic illnesses that affect the pediatric population, defined as chronic airway inflammation, remodeling of the airway wall, and airway hyper-responsiveness to leading to spasms in response to stimuli inducing a reversible airflow obstruction. The death rate from asthma around the world is as high as 0.7 per 100,000 children, therefore making it important to understand all aspect of its pathophysiology and management. We conducted this review using a comprehensive search of Pubmed, MEDLINE, and EMBASE from March 1980, through November 2017. The following search terms were used: asthma pathophysiology, chemokines, leukotriene, asthma management, steroids, beta agonist, leukotriene modifiers. Our aim was to understand detailed pathophysiology of pediatric asthma, and also have a look at the management of asthma. Optimal management of pediatric asthma is based upon a variety of measures, such as good symptomatic control, drug therapy, inhalers, but more importantly what matters is a good relationship of the physician with the patient and their care takers in order to achieve better result in short and long term. The impact of the relationship must be studied in more details to make asthma management more efficient for the pediatric group of patients.

Streszczenie:
Abstract Attitudes towards aging include both positive and negative beliefs about older adults (Iverson et al., 2017; Palmore, 1999). Palmore’s (1998) Facts on Aging Quiz, a widely used assessment of knowledge about aging, also identifies common societal misconceptions about aging. Findings regarding age group differences in attitudes toward aging are mixed (Bodner et al., 2012; Cherry & Palmore, 2008; Rupp et al., 2005). The current study compared knowledge of aging, negative age bias, and positive age bias between young adults (18-35 years, n=268) and middle-aged adults (40-55 years; n=277). Middle-aged adults reported significantly greater average knowledge of aging than young adults (p=.019), although both groups had relatively low knowledge (MA: M=13.0, YA: M=12.2). Middle-aged adults also showed significantly less negative age bias (p<.001) and significantly more positive age bias than young adults (p=.026). Although the total sample was significantly more likely to be incorrect than correct on 23 of the 25 facts (p<.001), young adults were significantly more likely than middle-aged adults (p<.001) to respond incorrectly for only 2 of 25 facts. Both facts reflected greater negative age bias among young adults than middle-aged adults. These facts concerned older adults’ ability to work as effectively as young adults (fact 9) and frequency of depression in older adults (fact 13). Results demonstrate that age bias is not limited to young adults and may continue through midlife, though negative age bias in particular may be lower for individuals approaching older adulthood, which could have implications for their psychological and physical well-being.
