Pełny tekst źródłaThe growth in the active tourism, with special approach for the tourism and nature sports, is confronted by the insufficient qualification of the human wrapped resources, especially with increased risk activities. In this sense, this dissertation aims to contribute to improve the training in tourism and sport of nature, more specifically in canyoning, materializing in the development of a proposal of a training model for practitioners and technicians of canyoning in Portugal. Initially presents itself as a state of the art concerning the tourism and nature sports and its obvious importance to the socio-economic development in the contemporary societies. Giving focus to training and formation in tourism and sport of nature in particular the case of canyoning. In canyoning, the international models of formation must be considered and adjusted to the necessities and characteristics of the national context, complementing to current offers and models of formation used presently, which doesn’t respond to the necessities and demands of this activity. Analysing the training offer of canyoning in Portugal, in a direct auscultation of specialists and the application of a questionnaire to technicians and practicioners allowed to reach a canyoning training model proposal that is considered more appropriate for the Portuguese reality and able to guarantee the acquisition of competences and skills adjusted to the specificities of the activity, and promotes of a sustainable practice and with elevated levels of security. The proposed training model shows up the importance of elevating the competences and qualification of practitioners and canyoning technicians, showing to be fundamental to turn around the strong gaps of knowledge checked nowadays.

Using an ecological perspective, the current research developed a theoretical framework that suggests that environmental and personal resources related to physically active leisure, as well as the interactions between them, contribute to well-being. A distance-running event was examined as an environmental resource for enhancing global life satisfaction, a key measure of subjective well-being. In contrast, the constructs of behavioral involvement and psychological involvement were used to measure personal resources resulting from physically active leisure. The proposed framework was tested with a set of three studies in which participants were recruited through a survey panel from a 10-mile distance-running event in the US. Study 1 performed a partial least squares structural equation modeling analysis to examine whether the distance-running event contributed to behavioral and psychological involvement and whether such involvement, in turn, promoted global life satisfaction. By using longitudinal data over a 5-month period, Study 2 used a latent growth modeling approach to investigate whether the distance running event was able to enhance participants' psychological involvement and whether such change promoted global life satisfaction. Study 3 conducted a moderated mediation analysis to examine the influence of personality, behavioral and psychological involvement, and two environmental resources of the distance running event and an organized running club on global life satisfaction. The results of the three studies suggest that a distance-running event can serve as an environmental resource that promotes participants' behavioral involvement and psychological involvement in the activity. The results also indicate that psychological involvement plays an important role in promoting global life satisfaction, whereas behavioral involvement may be insufficient to promote global life satisfaction. Overall, the current research contributes to the sport management and leisure literature by providing scholars with a new way of understanding the benefits of physically active leisure. The findings from the current research also provide practical implications for government and community leaders to enhance people's well-being by promoting physically active leisure in their cities and communities.

Pełny tekst źródłaDespite the privileged geographical location, Torres Vedras region presents a level of tourism development considerably lower than its potential. This dissertation aims to contribute to increasing the competitiveness of the region of Torres Vedras as a tourism destination, by proposing a strategic plan for the active tourism segment. Initially, an overall analysis is carried out both on the importance of the tourism sector in national terms, and on the need to promote tourism planning processes to pursue the economic, social and environmental sustainability. Additionally, the planning process has to consider the needs of the “new tourists”, more active and interested in discovering the cultural identity of sites. The development of a strategic approach for the Torres Vedras region, in terms of active tourism, incorporates a general characterization of the area under study, and the execution of a survey, followed by an inventory and an assessment of the regional resources with potential for development of nature based products, namely nature sports, complemented by enjoyment of the cultural and natural heritage. The results of the assessment enhance a versatility of the area for the practice of various nature activities, revealing potential to become a competitive destination for active tourism. Through the application of a TOWS approach, the main strategic orientations are defined and a strategic plan is proposed including a methodology to develop active tourism in the region of Torres Vedras. Thus, it is expected to create conditions for the sector to earn position and recognition as a qualified and sustainable tourist destination, allowing the region to positioning itself within the national context.
