The male of Paratrechalea longigaster Carico, 2005 and the female of P. julyae Silva & Lise, 2006 are described and illustrated for the first time, and new records provided. Photomicrographs of the female genitalia showing accessory spermathecae for P. ornata (Mello-Leitão, 1943) and P. azul Carico, 2005 as well as the morphological variation of the epigynum in both species are also presented. A previously unreported feature of the male palpus common to both P. azul Carico, 2005 and P. ornata (Mello-Leitão, 1943) is also discussed.

The first provisional jet fuel specifications were published in 1943 in England (RDE/F/KER/210) and 1944 in the U.S. (AN-F-32a). Jet fuel has undergone many changes in subsequent years, with current specifications for JP-5 and JP-8 for the military in the U.S. and Jet A/Jet A-1 for commercial use worldwide. Jet fuel specifications are subject to constant tension between performance requirements and availability/cost considerations. In this paper we will discuss how jet fuels have evolved over the years from the first engines to current gas turbine engines. Jet fuels derived from nonpetroleum sources will also be discussed.

In a recent paper, Giri and Gupta [Int. J. Mod. Phys. B19, 1943 (2005)] discussed the possibility of obtaining nth-order squeezing of the field amplitude of the fundamental mode in spontaneous Raman processes. These investigations are based on the earlier works of Kumar and Gupta [Quantum & Semiclassical Opt.7, 835 (1995)] and Giri and Gupta [J. Mod. Opt.51, 1705 (2004)]. As a consequence of our re-investigation on the same model, we found that the calculations and hence the conclusion of Giri and Gupta [Int. J. Mod. Phys. B19, 1943 (2005) and J. Mod. Opt.51, 1705 (2004)] and Kumar and Gupta are entirely baseless and misleading. There will be no squeezing of the fundamental mode in stimulated and/or in spontaneous Raman processes.

Este artículo reflexiona sobre la política de las asignaciones familiares en Uruguay. Está vigente desde 1943, fue ajustada mediante el uso de las tecnologías y modificada en sus principios originales en 2005, con la llegada del gobierno del Frente Amplio. Al mismo tiempo, se busca analizar cómo el desarrollo tecnológico, mediante el instrumento de Índice de Carencias Críticas (ICC), que tiene por propósito elegir a los hogares en situación de vulnerabilidad socioeconómica que le son entregadas las asignaciones familiares, modificó la Administración pública uruguaya, las relaciones laborales y la organización del trabajo. En términos metodológicos se revisan leyes de 1943, 2005 y 2007, además de fuentes secundarias de apoyo que evidencien el tipo de personas beneficiarias y recorrido de las asignaciones. La incorporación de las tecnologías tiende a despolitizar la pobreza, mientras que la vigilancia y supervisión de las asignaciones recae en el operador terminal, quien se encarga de la supervisión del software y recolección de los datos digitales.

In 1991 I wrote a short article comparing three ‘live electronic’ ensembles based in the UK and active in the late 1960s and 1970s (one into the 1980s) (Emmerson 1991). It was only in the final stages of preparation of this paper for presentation at the EMS05 conference in Montreal that I realised that the death of Hugh Davies on 1 January 2005 meant that a key member of each of the three ensembles was no longer with us. This article is thus dedicated to Barry Anderson (1935–1987, founder and director of the West Square Electronic Music Ensemble), Tim Souster (1943–1994, co-founder of Intermodulation) and Hugh Davies (1943–2005, founder member of Gentle Fire). The fact that they can no longer describe, elucidate and explain the repertoire that they created is directly pertinent to this paper. While its practitioners must inevitably (though hopefully not so prematurely) move on, as we celebrate Mozart's 250th birthday with performances of the vast majority of his compositions, we must ask ‘in what form live electronic music can live on’

Miobdelus humilis sp. nov. is described as new. A lectotype is designated for Staphylinus (Xanthocypus) miwai Bernhauer, 1943 and Thoracostrongylus miyakei Bernhauer, 1943. Ocypus (Ocypus) miwai (Bernhauer, 1943) is transferred from Ocypus Leach, 1819 to Sphaerobulbus Smetana, 2003 and the species is re-described based on types and modern specimens. A female description of Apecholinus imitator Smetana & Hu, 2019 is provided. Creophilus flavipennis Hope, 1831, Nelmanwaslus ornatus Smetana, 2006, Ontholestes oculatus (Sharp, 1874) and Platydracus juang Smetana, 2005 are reported for the first time from Taiwan. Ontholestes oculatus is re-described based on Taiwanese material, representing the first record of the genus Ontholestes Ganglbauer, 1895 in Taiwan. Platydracus juang is considered to be a termitophilous species, associated with Reticulitermes leptomandibularis (Hsia & Fan, 1965), which would represent the first report of termitophily in the subtribe Staphylinina. Additional records of C. maxillosus maxillosus (Linnaeus, 1758), Agelosus auricomus Smetana & Hu, 2019, Apecholinus fraternus Fairmaire, 1891, Miobdelus taiwanensis taiwanensis Smetana, 2001, Naddia taiwanensis Shibata, 1979 and Thoracostrongylus formosanus Shibata, 1982 are provided. Habitus photos of the above species and Dinothenarus choui Smetana, 1992 are also provided. A preliminary checklist of Staphylinina in Taiwan is proposed.

Maxim Kiktev is remembered as an erudite scholar of Arabic medieval literature. He did not publish much during his lifetime but devoted almost all his time to teaching. In addition, he was a consummate connoisseur of Russian Silver Age poetry, studying the works of Velimir Khlebnikov and the archives of Vladimir Solovyov.

O objeto deste estudo é o acesso ao curso e as adaptações curriculares durante a reorganização do ensino profissional de enfermeiros e enfermeiras na Escola de Enfermagem Alfredo Pinto (EEAP), na primeira metade da gestão de Maria de Castro Pamphiro (1943- 1949). Objetivos: Identificar as formas e modos de acesso ao curso de enfermeiras e enfermeiros da Escola de Enfermagem Alfredo Pinto, no período de 1943 a 1949; e analisar o currículo nessa escola e suas adaptações frente às exigências de ensino teórico e prático na formação do enfermeiro, nesse período. Estudo histórico-social realizado de 2003 a 2005 e baseado em análise de documentos escritos do Arquivo Setorial da EEAP / UNIRIO e da literatura existente sobre o tema. Os resultados evidenciaram que a Diretora utilizou estratégias que foram além das exigidas pelo regulamento de 1942, para garantir o acesso ao curso de enfermagem e elevar a qualidade de ensino da EEAP aproximando seu currículo daquele que seria exigido pela Lei 775/49.

O presente trabalho objetiva abordar aspectos relativos à etnografia (GEERTZ, 1989) e à observação participante (DUARTE; GOMES, 2008; VELHO, 2008 [1981]; WHYTE, 2005 [1943]) como modos significativos de se produzir conhecimento sobre a vida social no campo dos Estudos da Linguagem. Com base no estudo empreendido por mim em minha pesquisa de doutorado (OLIVEIRA, 2012), aponto as vantagens e limites da etnografia realizada, considerando o fato de ser eu pesquisadora e nativa do contexto estudado. No trânsito entre a familiaridade e o estranhamento, percebo-me em permanente estado etnográfico e, na condição de pesquisadora-nativa, vivencio, também, um processo de auto-descoberta e de autoetnografia.

Prophetic literature is, basically, a work of transcendental and mystical spirit because it comes from the deific values. In additions, it tends to change the course of the civilization to a better route because of its messianic spirit. Kuntowijoyo (1943--2005) is one of the prophetic poets with his touch on blending the social themes with historical activism in his works. The balance between social and spiritual world; between deific saturation and problems faced by the society; between the life before and after death, between religious and historical experience are depicted gracefully in his works. The propheticism in Kuntowijoyo works could be traced by using Riffatere’s semiotics.

María Zambrano presenta en su obra algunas claves en muchos de sus escritos que se reiteran y reaparecen en La Confesión: género literario, texto sobre el que nos detenemos en estas páginas. Claves que encierran un lenguaje del sujeto entendido como confesión (Zambrano, 1943) que se comunica en la escritura bajo el secreto y la soledad (Zambrano, 1934); como visión moderna de la fragmentación del ser, de autobiografía imposible (Revilla, 2005) y de desafío al planteamiento masculino de la cultura occidental (Tomassi, 2001). A su vez, conecta con las corrientes poéticas y filosóficas más importantes de la historia de la humanidad analizando la Razón vital del existir transformándola en Razón poética. La mirada femenina de Zambrano muestra un vacío en la filosofía y la necesidad de encontrar la intimidad, la identidad del sujeto y la figura propia en el encuentro con la realidad total, esto es, con la memoria como presencia y sede del conocimiento. María Zambrano presents in her writings some clues, many of which are repeated and reappear in La Confesión: género literario, text on which we dwell on these pages. These clues contain a language of the subject treated as confession (Zambrano, 1943) which communicates in writing under the secret and loneliness (Zambrano, 1934); as modern view of the fragmentation of being, of impossible autobiography (Revilla, 2005) and challenge to the male approach to Western culture (Tomassi, 2001). In turn, it connects with the most important poetic and philosophical currents of human history by analyzing the Vital Reason transforming it into Poetic Reason. Zambrano’s female view shows a gap in the philosophy and the need to find privacy, the subject's identity and the own figure in the encounter with the total reality, that is, with memory as presence and location of knowledge.

La obra de Rafael Morales (1919-2005) es una pieza clave en la poesía española de posguerra. La aparición de Poemas del toro en 1943 inaugura un nuevo lenguaje del desarraigo que será fundamental en la rehumanización de la poesía española durante la dictadura franquista. Su poética, caracterizada por un claro compromiso moral hacia lo humilde y una sincera preocupación por los que sufren, se separa de los preceptos estéticos de la poesía clasicista o afín al régimen y se convierte en antecesora de la poesía social. En este trabajo, ahondaremos en los aspectos más relevantes de las primeras obras de Morales y su importancia en el entorno poético de su tiempo.

O presente artigo analisa a presença de dois tipos de personagens nas chamadas obras do cacau de Jorge Amado: Cacau de 1933, Terras dos sem fim de 1943, São Jorge dos Ilhéus de 1944, Gabriela, cravo e Canela de 1958 e Tocaia Grande de 1984. São eles: os andejos e os desterrados. Andejos são personagens de intensa mobilidade geográfica, que se deslocam por motivos econômicos e/ou prosaicos. Desterrados são deslocados por injunções históricas coletivas (guerra, fome etc.), que buscam permanência em lugar que lhe acene possibilidades econômicas, culturais e emocionais de vida. Tais nomenclaturas (andejo e desterrado) não expressam conceitos fechados ou indicam entidades fixas. São estabelecidas aqui pelas possibilidades de suplementação de uma identidade móvel (DERRIDA, 2005), com a qual valores culturais são negociados.

Este artigo aborda o fiar como devir nas obras de Judith Scott (1943-2005), artista trissômica, iletrada e inábil para a linguagem verbal. O intento é examinar a índole intuitiva e a temporalidade – a formatividade prioriza o processo ao produto. A temporalidade será abordada a partir da filosofia bergsoniana. Frequentemente, expressões ínsitas são sufocadas pelo conhecimento teórico, por “ideias muito possuídas”, em termos pontyanos. Deduzir aleatoriedade é um equívoco, orientado pela generalidade. Considerando o ineditismo da pesquisa sobre a estadunidense no Brasil, esta reflexão contribui com a diversidade de perspectivas sobre processos de saber artístico e com a consolidação da fortuna crítica, além de proporcionar uma discussão sobre a possibilidade de pensar a arte a partir de uma perspectiva fenomenológica.

On 31 October 1943, a fifteen-person strong unit of the Home Army, under the command of Władysław Świacki “Sęp” (1900–1972), with intelligence support from Czesław Nalborski “Dzik” (1910–1992), was to carry out a successful strike to take out an SS execution squad commanded by Haupsturmführer Stammer in East Prussia, on the road between Lyck (Ełk) and the village of Neuendorf (Nowa Wieś Ełcka). The German squad was said to have carried out a mass execution of Italian prisoners of war, held at the camp in Bogusze. On 28 October 1989, an obelisk with a plaque commemorating this operation was unveiled in Nowa Wieś Ełcka. The spectacular strike is recorded in the documentation of the ZBoWiD (the Society of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy), but has not been confirmed in any source unconnected to its supposed participants. The execution of the Italians, assassination of Stammer, and even the date of the operation (31 October 1943) were all contrived by a writer based in Białystok, Aleksander Omiljanowicz (1923–2005). The information board erected in 2017 presents a compilation of Świacki’s recollections, Omiljanowicz’s fiction, and selectively chosen historical facts. The monument in Nowa Wieś Ełcka is a troublesome legacy, as too are the heroic and martyrological stories of former Home Army members belonging to the ZBoWiD.

The genus Oxyporus Fabricius was established by Fabricius in 1775 with Staphylinus rufus Linné as the type species. Prior to this study, 114 species of the genus were known worldwide in the Palaearctic, Oriental, Nearctic and Neotropical Regions (Herman, 2001). In the subgenus Oxyporus, 37 species were hitherto known to occur in China (Bernhauer, 1933, 1938, 1943; Alekandrov, 1933, 1934; Adachi, 1939; Hayashi, 1975, 1985; Zheng, 1992, 1997, 2010; Li, 1992, 1993; Huang et al., 2005, 2006), with 30 recorded from Mainland China and 7 from Taiwan. However, only 3 species have been reported from Yunnan, China. During this study on the Oxyporus of Yunnan, we found that our specimens represent a new species. Herein, we describe Oxyporus (Oxyporus) puerius sp. nov. and provide color images of the habitus and aedeagus.

Abstract. The near-infrared nadir spectra measured by SCIAMACHY on-board ENVISAT contain information on the vertical columns of important atmospheric trace gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide (CO2). The scientific algorithm WFM-DOAS has been used to retrieve this information. For CH4 and CO2 also column averaged mixing ratios (XCH4 and XCO2) have been determined by simultaneous measurements of the dry air mass. All available spectra of the year 2003 have been processed. We describe the algorithm versions used to generate the data (v0.4; for methane also v0.41) and show comparisons of monthly averaged data over land with global measurements (CO from MOPITT) and models (for CH4 and CO2). We show that enhanced concentrations of CO resulting from biomass burning have been detected which are in reasonable agreement with MOPITT. The measured XCH4 is enhanced over India, south-east Asia, and central Africa in September/October 2003 in line with model simulations where they result from surface sources of methane such as rice fields and wetlands. In qualitative agreement with model simulations the XCO2 measurements over the northern hemisphere show the lowest mixing ratios around July due to uptake of CO2 by the growing vegetation of the land biosphere. We also identified potential problems such as a too low inter-hemispheric gradient for CO, a time dependent bias of the methane columns on the order of a few percent, and a few percent too high CO2 over parts of the Sahara.

Abstract. We revisit the effects of Joule heating upon the upper atmospheres of Jupiter and Saturn. We show that in addition to direct Joule heating there is an additional input of kinetic energy – ion drag energy – which we quantify relative to the Joule heating. We also show that fluctuations about the mean electric field, as observed in the Earth's ionosphere, may significantly increase the Joule heating itself. For physically plausible parameters these effects may increase previous estimates of the upper atmospheric energy input at Saturn from ~10 TW to ~20 TW. Keywords.
