Stephen L. Wood re-defined Platypus such that its members are native to realms outside of the Americas and transferred most Neotropical species out of that genus. I have come across 44 species that still remain, though, and these are treated here. In total, I report 49 new generic assignments, 30 of which are transfers out of Platypus. I propose 22 new synonymies, eight of which are Platypus species that are synonymized with previously transferred species. Six Neotropical species are left in Platypus, for reasons detailed in the text. These taxonomic acts affect the compositions of eight of the 11 Neotropical genera of core Platypodinae. Six Neotropical species are left in the genus Platypus with the status incertae sedis: Platypus armatus Chapuis, 1865; Platypus dorsalis Schedl, 1972; Playpus quadrilobus Blandford, 1895; Platypus squamifer Schedl, 1963; Platypus subaequalispinosus Schedl, 1936; and Platypus trispinosus Chapuis, 1965. These taxonomic changes prepare the foundations for future revisionary work on the American Platypodinae.

He has already produced two volumes on the North Mediterranean (the Balkans and southern Italy, 1993, and Rome, 1995) and another for Greco-Roman Egypt (with William Horbury, 1992).

Cyana Walker, 1854 is one of the most species-rich Erebiidae genera within the tribe Lithosiini Billberg of the subfamily Arctiinae Leach. The genus is widespread from Sub-Saharan Africa and Madagascar through southern and eastern Asia to New Guinea and Australia with a diversity hot spot in South East Asia. A striking species with contrasting red and orange wing pattern, C. bellissima (Moore, 1878) was described from northern India and recorded from the Himalayas, China and Indochina (Fang 2000; Černý & Pinratana 2009; Singh et al. 2020). Another closely related species, C. stresemanni (Rothschild, 1936) (= bellissima inouei Kishida, 1993) is distributed in the Peninsular Malaysia (Rothschild 1936; Kishida 1993; Bucsek 2012). During examination of extensive unsorted Lithosiini materials housed in the MWM/ZSM and the private collection of the senior author, a series of peculiar specimens from southern Vietnam provisionally identified as ‘C. bellissima’ was found. These specimens, however, display certain external differences from other populations of C. bellissima and C. stresemanni, suggesting the presence of a further taxon related to C. bellissima. The examination of the male and the female genitalia of the southern Vietnamese specimens has confirmed their specific distinctness and they are described in this paper as a new species.

An annotated catalogue of the tribe Dimini (Coleoptera: Elateridae: Dendrometrinae) is presented. Altogether, 273 extant species are classified in 11 genera: Brancuccia Schimmel & Platia, 1991 (eight species), Csikia Szombathy, 1910 (eight spp.), Dima Charpentier, 1825 (77 spp.), Neocsikia Ôhira & Becker, 1972 (two spp.), Neodima Schimmel & Platia, 1992a (two spp.), Paracsikia Schimmel & Platia, 1991 (seven spp.), Parapenia Suzuki, 1982b (14 spp.), Penia Laporte, 1838 (108 spp.), Platiana Schimmel, 1993 (34 spp.), Pseudocsikia Schimmel & Platia, 1991 (10 spp.), and Sabahdima Schimmel & Platia, 1993 (three spp.). The only fossil genus included in this tribe is monotypic Alaodima Dolin, 1980. Dimini are distributed in the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions. For each taxon we provide synonyms, information on types, type localities, distribution, and bibliography. The lectotype of Penia apicalis Fleutiaux, 1936 is here designated in order to fix the identity of the species for future studies. Penia impressifrons Schimmel, 1993 from Vietnam is synonymized with Ceroleptus sulcatus (Fleutiaux, 1903), a representative of Elateridae: Oxynopterinae.

As bases para esta análise são a argumentação apresentada no quinto capítulo da tese de doutorado de Sílvia Possas (1993). Também são apresentadas algumas reflexões sobre esses argumentos e de pós-keynesianos distintos, pois Possas negligenciou alguns pontos importantes na discussão que ela fez neste capítulo que reelabora alguns raciocínios de Keynes (1936) e desses pós-keynesianos.

AbstractWe report here a study of various solar activity phenomena occurring in both north and south hemispheres of the Sun during solar cycles 8–23. In the study we have used sunspot data for the period 1832–1976, flare index data for the period 1936–1993, Hα flare data 1993–1998 and solar active prominences data for the period 1957–1998. Earlier Verma reported long-term cyclic period in N-S asymmetry and also that the N-S asymmetry of solar activity phenomena during solar cycles 21, 22, 23 and 24 will be south dominated and the N-S asymmetry will shift to north hemisphere in solar cycle 25. The present study shows that the N-S asymmetry during solar cycles 22 and 23 are southern dominated as suggested by Verma.

In Autumn 2007 and 2008, I found Colletes hederae Schmidt & Westrich 1993 in the province of Vojvodina, Serbia. This species had never been found previously in this country and this record indicates that this bee is likely to be more widespread in Southeastern Europe than previously thought. An updated distribution map of the species is given, as well as diagnostic morphological characters to separate C. hederae from another one of its sister species found in the study area, C. brevigena Noskiewicz 1936.

As preparation for a revision of the Neotropical genera Adelopsis Portevin, 1907, Paulipalpina Gnaspini and Peck, 1996, and Parapaulipalpina Gnaspini, 1996, we review and redescribe the earlier named species and code characters of their genitalia. These characters are then used to redefine species groups. To correct published misidentifications in museum collections, we also describe the following nine new species: Adelopsis claudina sp. n., Adelopsis mrazi sp. n., Adelopsis szymczakowskii sp. n., Adelopsis waclawi sp. n., and Paulipalpina jeanneli sp. n. (all from Brazil), Paulipalpina consuelo sp. n. from Peru, Adelopsis portevini sp. n. and Paulipalpina aragua sp. n. from Venezuela, and Paulipalpina coatepec sp. n. from Mexico. Iutururuca Gnaspini, 1993, described as a subgenus of Adelopsis, is here considered a junior synonym of Adelopsis Portevin, 1907, which is defined as having no subgenera.

Nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis (NBTE) is a rare clinical condition characterized by the presence of sterile vegetations on valvular leaflets Gross and Friedberg (1936). The most frequent cause of NBTE is antiphospholipid syndrome Hughson and et al. (1993); malignancy, through an intrinsic condition of hypercoagulability, is the second most common cause Thomas (2001). Systemic thromboembolic complications are frequently associated with this condition, but coronary embolism is not common. We report the case of a patient with NBTE secondary to gastric adenocarcinoma with clinical symptoms of coronary and systemic emboli.

Kellogg (1936, p. 242) described “an imperfectly preserved dorsal vertebra” from Texas, which he assigned to the primitive cetacean genus Protocetus. McLeod and Barnes (1990), however, were the first to report unequivocal protocetid remains from the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Since then, Hulbert and Petkewich (1991) and Hulbert (1993) have noted a well-preserved skeleton of a protocetid cetacean from middle Eocene deposits in Georgia. The purpose of this note is to report the recent discovery of additional protocetid remains from the coastal plain of South Carolina and to discuss their stratigraphic and biostratigraphic context.

Data on the caddisfly fauna of Algeria are incomplete and the available information concerns only some regions. In the present contribution, new distribution data on Trichoptera in El Harrach Wadi are given. Sampling campaigns were conducted during 2010–2013 at 10 sampling sites where eleven species were collected as follows: Hydropsyche fezana Navás 1935, H. incognita Pitsch 1993, H. lobata McLachlan 1884, H. maroccana Navás 1936, H. obscura Navás 1928, H. resmineda Malicky 1977, Hydropsyche sp., Cheumatopsyche sp., Diplectrona sp., Oxyethira sp., and Rhyacophila munda McLachlan 1862. The record of H. incognita Pitsch 1993a is new for Algeria and the Maghreb.

Based on material from the type area at Tetrebovo in the Zlatibor massif of WSerbia, the Cenomanian dasycladalean alga originally described as Harlanjohnsonella annulata by ELLIOTT (1968, typified 1993 in: GRANIER & DELOFFRE), is emended and revisited as Dissocladella annulata (ELLIOTT) nov. comb. The evidence of tufts of short secondaries arising at the top of the drop-like primaries allows its transfer to the genus Dissocladella PIA, 1936. This species displays a different degree of skeleton calcification which is described in detail. The monospecific genus Harlanjohnsonella ELLIOTT becomes invalid, as being a junior synonym of Dissocladella.

As part of the treatment of Polycnemum by D. Iamonico for a new edition of the Flora of Italy (e.g., Iamonico 2011, 2012, 2013), and the ongoing taxonomic revision of the genus in Europe (Iamonico et al., in prep.), we hereby typify the names in Polycnemum Linnaeus (1753: 35) introduced by the Hungarian pharmacist and botanist, A.F. Láng (1795–1863). Láng’s contribution to European Polycnemum taxonomy was substantial, because of the currently accepted four species (Ball 1993), two [P. heuffelii Láng (1828: 219), P. verrucosum Láng (1824: 179)] were described by him. The greatest part of his huge herbarium (ca 60.000 specimens) was moved to Austria (Gombocz 1936), but many of his specimens are scattered in different herbaria worldwide.

RESUMENEl “triunfo del ultramontanismo” durante la edad contemporánea ha marcado la evolución del catolicismo de los últimos siglos, otorgando al Papa un mayor control sobre una Iglesia que ha mirado a Roma con el propósito de plegarse a las formas y disposiciones del sucesor de San Pedro. En España, esta evolución fue acompañada tanto de la vinculación de la identidad católica con la nacional como de la división entre los católicos en razón de los diferentes programas políticos desde la irrupción del liberalismo. Ambos fenómenos influyeron decisivamente en la pugna interna habida en el bando sublevado por la orientación del Estado que saliese de la Guerra Civil (1936-1939).El presente trabajo aborda, de modo comparativo, la celebración del “Día del Papa” durante los años de la Guerra Civil en la zona franquista, analizando cómo la fiesta fue orientada para la movilización popular y para fomentar la imagen de la adhesión al pontífice tanto fuera como dentro de España, con fines propagandísticos y políticos anteriores a los piadosos. La exaltación de la veneración del Papa contrastó con el desigual acatamiento de sus orientaciones y con los recelos hacia su actitud respecto de los contendientes. In Spain, this evolution was accompanied by both the bond between Catholic and National identities and the division among Catholics over the different political agendas presented since the emergence of liberalism. Both phenomena had a decisive influence upon the internal struggle within the rebel faction with regard to the direction to be taken by the state in the wake of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).This work shows how the celebration of “Pope’s day” in the Francoist zone during the Spanish Civil War was not so much an expression of faith as a political and propaganda gesture to demonstrate support for the Pope within and beyond Spain. The call for exaltation of the Pope contrasted with unequal observance of his instructions and distrust of his attitude towards the warring parties. In 1993, Queensland's Local Government Act was revised for the first time since 1936. This paper is born of a realisation, based on research sponsored by the Local Government Association of Queensland, that much less is known and understood about the development of local government in Queensland than we have previously believed. The consequences of this are particularly serious at present, because important changes are currently being made to local government features on the basis of a very imperfect understanding of the role, operation and significance of those features. In this paper, I deal with an important aspect of the territorial dimension of local government, and point to the contemporary significance of a deeper appreciation of the development of local government from the territorial perspective.

Introduction. The article raises the problem of the influence of Roman law on Russian constitutionalism and the formation of social values based on this influence of the modern legal culture of Russia. Purpose. The author aims to assess the impact of Roman law on Russian constitutionalism and its social value. Methodology. Methods of analysis and synthesis, dialectical logic, comparative-historical and formal-legal are used. Results. The thesis is argued that the ideas and approaches of Roman law retain social value, but their application is fruitful only in harmony with the spiritual and moral foundations of the corresponding legal culture. The absolute belief in the law as a phenomenon of social planning and a tool for compromise between different parts of society, inherited from Roman law, formed the Romano-German and Anglo-Saxon worldview, but does not take root in Russian legal culture. Modern Russian constitutionalism, following the tradition of Roman law, is based on norms-principles, norms-goals and norms-symbols that perform the social function of the highest legal indicator and play an important predictive role. But misconceptions about the universalism of Roman law lead to civilizational breakdowns of peoples. In Russian constitutionalism, breaks occurred during the constitutional reforms of 1906, 1936, and 1993, which created social deformations and created legal and political preconditions for the destruction of the nation. Thus, the Constitution of the USSR 1936, first by copying the current European bourgeois electoral system, abandoned the system of multi-level congresses of Soviets, more respondents Roman and Russian traditions Council and people's Assembly. Among the important results of the study is the conclusion that the social value of Roman law in Russian constitutionalism covers the moral mission of Roman law and a high assessment of the normative value of the heritage of Roman law. Conclusion. The author concludes that Roman law has a social value for States with a traditionally communal identity as a source of effective legal structures and a model for studying; that Russian constitutionalism, which three times, in 1906, 1936 and 1993, departed from its cultural and historical traditions of organizing state management of society, again tries to build modern political and legal institutions on the basis of Roman legal dogma, while Russian legal culture excludes law from the field of sacred law. The social value of Roman law in the modern era lies in the fact that without a well-thought-out and coordinated support by the entire world community on its public-legal and private-law traditions and institutions, the evolutionary transition of mankind to the sustainable development of society is impossible.

The frequency of doubling of the appendix, according to the literature, is about 0.004% of the number of appendectomies. According to the literature, there were about 100 cases, of which 15 were complicated by the acute form. Doubling can be partial, complete or of several types: a shoot in the form of a double-barreled gun; "avian" in which there are two developed processes located on both sides of the cecum; and one process is located in its usual place, and the other, as a rule, rudimentary, is located along one of the muscle bands. Doubling of the appendix can be in the cecum or in the duplication of the cecum. It was first described and systematized in 1936 by Cave, then in 1962 by Wallbridge, then in 1993 by Biermann.

The paper evaluates the growth, structure, production, quality, leaf area index and dendrochronology of 100 years old Austrian pine (Pinus nigra ARNOLD) monoculture situated in the forest type group Fageto-Quercetum in the locality Horné Lefantovce (Nitrianska Streda Forest District, Topoľčianky Forest Enterprise). Codominant trees, trees with stem of high quality, with medium-sized crown, medium dense and straight crown are the most abundant in the stand. The tree number in the stand is 1,024 trees/ha, basal area 51.75 m2/ha, growing stock 571.56 m3/ha, aboveground biomass stock 348.76 t/ha and leaf area index 21.85 ha/ha. Dendrochronological analyses examined the response in individual sample trees and minimum annual ring width was found in 1920, 1922, 1925, 1929, 1933, 1938, 1944, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1952, 1954, 1963, 1968, 1976, 1982, 1990, 1993, 1998, 2001. Marked maximum values of annual ring width in the years 1919, 1923, 1926, 1930, 1936, 1937, 1941, 1948, 1951, 1955, 1959, 1966, 1972, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1997 were found as a positive productive feature. Beginning in the year 1993, dry Austrian pine trees occurred in the stand as a result of the fungal infection by Sphaeropsis sapinea (Fr.) Dyko et Sutton.

As recently as the first half of this century, leaf- and twig-fodder cut from trees played a major role in animal husbandry across most of Europe and, in many areas, stored leafy hay was of critical importance to the survival of stalled livestock over winter (e.g. Brockmann-Jerosch, 1936; Radley, 1961; Spray, 1981; Salvi, 1982; Sigaut, 1982; Haas and Rasmussen, 1993). In addition to its importance to livestock, leaf- and twig-foddering also played a major role in shaping the cultural landscapes of the continent, and in particular the structure and composition of vegetation cover (e.g. Moreno, 1982; Austad, 1988). During this century, the use of arboreal fodder has declined dramatically to the point of almost total abandonment and, in consequence, this once important practice is both poorly understood and largely ignored by historians, geographers and ecologists alike.

Psychodidae Newman, 1834 is a large family of small, hairy nematoceran dipterans, comprising more than 2,600 described extant species. It is currently subdivided into seven subfamilies: Bruchomyiinae Alexander, 1920, Horaiellinae Enderlein, 1936, Phlebotominae Rondani, 1840, Psychodinae Newman, 1834, Sycoracinae Jung, 1954, Trichomyiinae Tonnoir, 1922, and the fossil subfamily Protopsychodinae Stebner et al., 2015. Some authors consider the group to consist of two families, i.e., Psychodidae and Phlebotomidae (Williams, 1993; Azar et al., 1999). This fact is founded only on the hematophagous and medically important aspects of the phlebotomines, nevertheless this arrangement is unfounded, because the phylogenetic relationships between the psychodid subfamilies remain unresolved, even if there is a possible sister-group relationship between the Phlebotominae and Psychodinae (Curler & Moulton, 2012). We consider recognizing phlebotomines as a separate family would necessitate also giving separate familial status to all the currently recognized subfamilies, which is not adopted here.

The taxonomy of the pinnotherid crab, Pinnotheres tivelae (Gordon, 1936), now assigned to Arcotheres Manning, 1993, is revised. Type specimens from Muscat, Gulf of Oman, are compared with extensive material from the type locality and Persian Gulf. Arcotheres tivelae is shown to be a valid species, is redescribed, figured to modern standards and males are reported for the first time. This species had been confused with A. placunae (Hornell & Southwell, 1909) from Pakistan and western India, but the two species can be distinguished by the morphology of the carapace, third maxilliped, ambulatory leg features and characters of the male first gonopod. Arcotheres tivelae is morphologically closest to three other species also found in venerid clams, A. exiguus (Bürger, 1895), A. rayi Ahyong & Ng, 2007, and A. obesus (Dana, 1852), but the distal morphology of its male first gonopod is distinct from its congeners. Furthermore, A. tivelae is recorded from Kuwait for the first time.

Speech impact with the anthropocentric approach significantly expands its boundaries. Studying the ideologically oriented Constitutions of the Soviet and post-Soviet periods from the position of pragmalinguistics, a speech impact was revealed through an ideologized speech cliche. This concept is understood as a ready-to-use speech formula that is deliberately introduced into the collective subconscious of the speakers of a given language and capable of exercising an emotionally-evaluative impact on the text recipient. A perlocutionary pragmalinguistic experiment was conducted to determine the emotional-evaluative attitude of representatives of two different generations (retired military and graduates of secondary schools) towards ideologized speech cliches in the Constitutions of the Soviet and post-Soviet periods. In this experiment, the preambles were investigated - the introductory parts of five Constitutions (K. of the RSFSR of 1918, K. of the USSR of 1924, K. of the USSR of 1936, K. of the USSR of 1977, and K. of the Russian Federation of 1993), in which many ideologized speech clichés were concentrated.

ABSTRACT Since the 1936 founding of the Society of American Archivists, the archival field has struggled with the challenges inhering in professionalization, namely the merits or demerits of institutional or individual accreditation or certification. In 1989, SAA helped establish the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA), which confers individual certification by written examination. In 1993, ACA modified its bylaws to require graduate education to be eligible for the exam. But, although a relationship clearly exists between certification and education, scholars have not explored, much less profited from, the insights of archival educators. This qualitative case study uses semistructured interviews with thirty-three tenure-track or tenured faculty program directors from graduate archival programs across North America to understand how educators perceive and address certification. Findings reveal that educators are ambivalent about certification, its relationship to graduate education, and its vocational value. The authors discuss the implications of these findings and offer suggestions for research and practice.

Climate, glacier mass balance and runoff are investigated in the Low-Arctic Mittivakkat Glacier catchment on Ammassalik Island, Southeast Greenland. High-resolution meteorological data from the catchment covering 1993–2005 and standard synoptic meteorological data from the nearby town of Tasiilaq (Ammassalik) from 1898–2005 are used. Within the catchment, gradients and variations are observed in meteorological conditions between the coastal and the glacier areas. During the period 1993–2005 about 15% lower annual solar radiation was observed in the coastal area. Further, decreasing mean annual air temperatures (MAAT) occur in the coastal area, indicating an approximately 20-d shorter thawing period. The higher lying glacier area, in contrast, experiences an increasing MAAT, an approximately 40-d longer thawing period and a 60-d longer snow-free period. The Mittivakkat Glacier net mass balance has been almost continuously negative, corresponding to an average loss of glacier volume of 0.4% yr−1. The total catchment runoff is averaging 1973±281 mm w.eq. yr−1, and around 30% of the runoff is explained by glacier net loss. Over the 106 years (1898–2004) MAAT has, on average, increased significantly in the catchment by 1.3°C. However, time periods of considerable variability occur. All seasons show increasing air temperatures, with the highest increase during winter season. The period 1995–2004 was the warmest 10-yr period within the last 60 yr, and 1936–1946 the warmest within the last 106 years. The calculated glacier net mass balance indicates an average glacier loss of 550±530 mm w.eq. yr−1, and 89 out of 105 mass balance years show a negative net mass balance. For the 106-yr period average runoff was estimated to be 1957±254 mm w.eq. yr−1.

Abstract. Celebrated for her 1936 discovery of the Earth's inner core, seismologist Inge Lehmann (1888–1993) is often portrayed as a trailblazing female scientist with an impressive international career. She is the inspiration behind Denmark's funding program designed to strengthen gender equality in scientific research. Yet, newly discovered documents show that Lehmann's path to a career in science was not at all straightforward. In a society where women were considered mentally and physically unsuited to academic studies, let alone scientific careers, gender bias and discrimination thwarted her ambitions and limited her early career options. Lehmann's letters to Niels Bohr document the disappointment and frustration with restrictions on women at Cambridge University that prompted her to return to Denmark. Her mental breakdown in the winter of 1912 likely resulted from academic overcompensation in attempts to overcome gender bias. After obtaining a Danish degree in mathematics, she became an underpaid clerical employee at the university. Only by pragmatically changing her field from prestigious mathematics to little-known seismology could she establish herself as a successful scientist.

Abstract . This article reviews 30 species of biting midges of the genus Dasyhelea that are known to occur in Poland. Diagnoses and detailed descriptions of adults are provided for all Polish species, as well as keys (based mainly on males) for the identification of subgenera and their included species. Dasyhelea excellentis BORKENT, 1997 is recognized as a new junior synonym of Dasyhelea bifida ZILAHI-SEBESS, 1936 (syn. n.) and Dasyhelea lugensis BRODSKAYA, 1995 as a new junior synonym of Dasyhelea caesia REMM, 1993 (syn. n.). Among the Polish biting midge fauna, most species of the genus Dasyhelea are primarily arboreal, widely distributed Palaearctic species. The most species-rich samples were collected in the following regions: Eastern Baltic Lakelands (19 spp.), Southern Baltic Lakelands (16 spp.), Southern Baltic Coastlands (14 spp.) and Central Western Carpathians (12 spp.). The larvae were found in sap and tree holes, water accumulated in gutters and sinks, moist soil near fresh- and saltwater bodies, and peat bogs. Adults are known to visit flowers for nectar, and 16 Polish species were found on umbelliferous flowers.

“The Three Little Pigs” is one of the most famous folk tales and has been adapted many times. The paper is devoted to the evolution of the classical narration as it was presented in picture-books in the 20 th century. The revisions examined are: Walt Disney’s book based on the animated film (1933), Russian adaptation made by Sergey Mikhalkov (1936, 1957) as well as two picture-books which were published at the end of 20 th century in USA and Great Britain and suggest new versions of the classical story — Jon Scieszka’s and Lane Smith’s “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs” (1989) and “The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig” by Eugene Trivizas and Helen Oxenbury (1993). All the books demonstrate different variants of interaction between the textual and visual contents. The recent versions of the tale reveal important trends: visual narrative presents a substantive semantics and plays increasingly significant role in modern picture-books. The evaluation of the genre introduces multiple perspectives and challenge reader to interact, to create ambiguous meanings rather than suggest a define statement — thus making reception more complicated and inspiring.

Of the twenty species listed by Wood and Bright (1992) in the genus Baiocis, the following species belong in Crossotarsus Chapuis, 1865: imitatrix Schedl, 1973, kuntzeni (Schedl, 1937) (comb. n.); the following in Platypus Herbst, 1793: angusticeps Schedl, 1942, perangustus Schedl, 1942, seminitens Schedl, 1971, variolosus Schedl, 1942; the following in Treptoplatypus Wood, 1993: pasohensis (Schedl, 1939). The following new synonymy is proposed: Baiocis pernanulus (Schedl, 1935) (=Platypus annularis Schedl, 1975 syn. n.; =Baiocis solomonicus Browne, 1986 syn. n.); Platypus perangustus Schedl, 1942 (= Platypus sindorae Browne, 1980 syn. n.); Platypus transformis Schedl, 1936 (=Platypus angusticeps Schedl, 1942 syn. n.).
