Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACT In Malaysia, although youth entrepreneurship is now on the rise and is a topic much discussed and highlighted in the media, what is still lacking is systematic and in-depth knowledge of youth entrepreneurship in Malaysia. The authors feel that greater knowledge about youth entrepreneurship is necessary to provide information to the government to design effective strategies and programmes for improvement in youth entrepreneurship so as to increase socio-economic development. This knowledge is useful to society, particularly to youths, especially in alleviating problems of youth unemployment, and to increase youth participation and interest in entrepreneurship as a form of career path. To obtain such knowledge, the authors embarked on an exploratory study in 2009 on the nature of youth entrepreneurship in Malaysia. The study aims to explore the entrepreneurial characteristics of youth entrepreneurs in terms of personal, social and business characteristics, as well as challenges they faced. Findings from a survey of 531 male and female youths in Klang Valley revealed some commonalities between the youths in terms of entrepreneurial traits, problems and challenges faced by them. Abstract (sommario):
The article discusses the features, sources of replenishment and etymological aspects of youth slang in the modern Ukrainian language. The article provides historical aspects of the appearance of the concept of slang and changes in its meaning are given. The study identifies and describes the main varieties of this phenomenon: youth, professional, computer, criminal slang as well as slang associated with hobbies. Youth slang is classified depending on the social group and includes school, student, network, gaming, hacker, and subcultural slang. Also, the authors draw conclusions about the positive and negative aspects of the influence of slang on the state of the modern Ukrainian literary language. The study interprets slang as a relatively stable for a certain period, widely used, stylistically marked lexical layer, a component of expressive vernacular, included in literary language, heterogeneous in its sources, the degree of approximation to the literary standard with pejorative expression. The main sources of modern Ukrainian youth slang include information technology, the Internet and foreign language borrowing. It has been proven that youth slang is formed as a result of updating and enriching the language with borrowed words that young people begin to use in their own speech, trying to seem more interesting and modern to convey emotions, thoughts and attitudes to something or someone. It has been found that there are several types of slang in the way they are formed: word formation, reduction, affixation, conversion, metaphorization and borrowing. Youth slang is one of the uncodified subsystems of the modern Ukrainian language, and it is at this level that one can trace how and to what extent linguistic phenomena are related to changes in social life in society.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examined associations between parental incarceration and youths’ externalizing behaviors (e.g., damage to property, fighting, theft, etc.). Data were drawn from the 2016 Minnesota Student Survey, a statewide sample of 126,868 youth in public schools. Logistic regression analyses examined associations between youths’ experience of parental incarceration and their self-reported externalizing behaviors, controlling for key demographic characteristics. Youth with a currently or formerly incarcerated parent reported significantly more externalizing behaviors compared with youth who never had a parent incarcerated. In addition, youth with a currently incarcerated parent reported significantly more externalizing behaviors than youth who had a formerly incarcerated parent in six out of the eight externalizing behaviors. However, youth who reported having a formerly incarcerated parent were more likely to report lying or conning and more likely to have difficulty paying attention than youth who currently had an incarcerated parent. Results illustrate that parental incarceration has important implications for youths’ own risk for delinquency and high-risk behavior.

Abstract (sommario):
This study investigates the impact and consequences of youth unemployment in Ndola City, Zambia, using structured and semi-structured questionnaires to gather quantitative and qualitative data. The main objective is to examine the effects of youth unemployment. Specific objectives included identifying major causes of youth unemployment, assessing its impacts, understanding survival strategies of unemployed youths, and determining government programs that could mitigate unemployment. Data was collected from 70 purposefully selected youths and analyzed using SPSS, Microsoft Word, and Excel. The study recognizes that solutions to youth unemployment require identifying its root causes, thus, it surveyed unemployed youths who provided critical primary data. Findings indicated that economic recession, lack of job market exposure, absence of industries, skill deficiencies, low educational attainment, corruption, nepotism, and low entrepreneurship levels were major factors contributing to youth unemployment in Ndola City. These issues result in criminal activities, prostitution, excessive alcohol consumption, and poverty due to lack of income. To address youth unemployment, the study recommended prioritizing local youths in community projects such as road and drainage construction, building more affordable schools, and providing high-quality education. It emphasized that the government should create jobs and that stakeholders should address this issue before it becomes uncontrollable. Additionally, encouraging youth involvement in agriculture, given Ndola's agricultural potential, was suggested as a viable solution. The study underscores the long-lasting financial, social, and psychological effects of unemployment, exacerbated by global economic crises. The International Labour Organization estimates rising youth unemployment rates globally, with Zambia experiencing a 60% youth unemployment rate, among the highest in Sub-Saharan Africa. The youth population, comprising 65% of Zambia's workforce, faces unemployment rates significantly higher than adults. This study emphasizes that addressing the causes of youth unemployment is crucial for finding effective solutions and improving the livelihoods of Ndola's youth.

The study investigated the role of youth’s organization in farm development in Rivers State. Interview schedules were used to collect data from 120 youths selected through random sampling procedure from Rivers State. Descriptive and inferential statistics namely, mean and factor analysis respectively were used to analyze the data. The result shows that youths play important roles in the supply of labour, donation of materials, initiating of projects, attend meetings punctually and use initiatives to gain outside help. Also, youths in community based non-formal rural youth agricultural programmes is mainly in youth organizations which includes, age grades, local social clubs and young farmers organization. The major problems that inhibit youth in agricultural activities were lack of commitment, lack of logistic support and lack of land ownership. It was recommended that a robust relationship between agencies interested in encouraging youth involvement in agriculture should be evolved through legislation and implementation of policies to guarantee training programmes, credit facilities and land accessibility to youths at the identified rural youth organizations. This will enhance youth involvement and catalyze agricultural development.

Abstract (sommario):
At present, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex people (LGBTQ+) are increasingly being empowered to freely express themselves, particularly young people and rising generations. Although data underline the trend of more open expression of different sexual orientations and gender identities, LGBTQ+ adolescents still suffer discrimination in the health care framework. Inclusive care by providers to look after the health of LGBTQ+ indiviuals is needed. Pediatricians are often the first health care providers for LGBTQ+ youth facing their sexual and gender identities. Unfortunately, pediatricians have limited knowledge about LGBTQ+ issues, which keeps them from fulfilling the specific needs of LGBTQ+ youth. The purpose of this review is to frame the most important aspects of LGBTQ+ youths’ lives, including risks, difficulties and needs, that pediatricians should investigate and meet to provide these youth with better and more individualizedassistance regarding their health. A literature analysis showed that pediatricians have insufficient knowledge of and comfort with several items regarding the management of LGBTQ+ youths. Increased awareness and knowledge of the specific and exclusive needs of LGBTQ+ adolescents are mandatory, including dedicated pediatric LGBTQ+ health care training. This would give them the opportunity to forward an inclusive health care system, thus reducing the risks related to stigma, bullying and family rejection and promoting sex education. Further studies are needed to better evaluate the prevalence of LGBTQ+ youths, gender-based medicine in pediatrics and the effects of COVID-19 on the LGBTQ+ younth population due to increased risks of psychosocial suffering, isolation and mental diseases.

Abstract (sommario):
Running away from home is a serious problem among American youth. It has been linked to numerous negative social, psychological, and behavioral outcomes. It is well-established that family dysfunction is one reason that youth run away from home. However, less research focuses on how both families and schools influence youths’ likelihood of running away from home. Drawing from a sample of 4,546 youth from the 1997 National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, I examine how youths’ perceptions of their schools’ safety, experiences with bully victimization, and bonds with their families and their schools predict the likelihood of running away from home. I find that youths’ negative perceptions of their schools’ safety increase the likelihood that they will run away from home. Additionally, I discover that youth who have been the victims of bullying are more likely to run away from home compared to their peers who have not been bullied. My findings also suggest a cumulative effect between youths’ perceptions of unsafe schools and experiences with bullying, suggesting that youth are most likely to run away from home when they feel unsafe at school and have been the victim of childhood bullying. These findings are important because they have implications for policy development. My findings suggest that (a) promoting a positive and inclusive school environment and (b) helping youth foster stronger relationships may help deter youth from running away from home.

Abstract (sommario):
Youth Development Fund (YDF) contributes to enhanced youth income and livelihoods, yet its impact on youth income levels remains paradoxical. This paper examines the effect of YDF access on North-West Tanzania youths’ income levels. A cross-sectional survey was used to collect data from 100 youth in the Kahama District in the Shinyanga region. The ordinal logistic regression model tested the null hypothesis that YDF has no significant impact on youth income levels. The results indicate that YDF access is associated with higher youth incomes, but the effect lacks statistical significance (p=0.940), raising questions about the YDF’s overall effectiveness in improving youth income and livelihood. Moreover, findings reveal that, although young women showed lower income levels, young males could get higher incomes, but this distinction is not statistically significant (p=0.088). Equally, higher-educated youth group membership, precisely in tailoring, food vending, and motorbike cycling groups, suggests higher income, but these effects lack statistical significance at p=0.05. Unexpectedly, youth without business planning skills may have higher incomes than those with such skills, yet this too lacks statistical significance at p=0.05. This suggests the limited impact of these variables on youths’ income. This study concludes that there is no significant impact of YDF access or other factors like gender, education, youth group membership, or business planning services on youths’ income. To enhance YDF effectiveness, it recommends adjusting YDF strategies through complementary initiatives, prioritising financial literacy, and exploring alternative policy approaches. Future research may investigate integrated strategies, financial literacy effects, policy analysis, youth participation, and livelihood outcomes in Tanzania and beyond

Abstract (sommario):
Based on two years of ethnographic data gathered, including 81 hours of life-history interviews and 70 hours of participant observation with 10 youth who migrated to the United States from Central America, this paper argues that negative labels that often stereotypically depict immigrant youth experiences are often socially imposed on immigrant youth prior to migration. More specifically, this article examines youths’ understanding and perceptions of the ways in which family members employ socially available “stigmatizing scripts.” Stigmatizing scripts, as described by study participants, are often used by family members in an attempt to protect youth. Analysis of the data suggests that the youth experienced stigmatizing scripts as a way to describe their lives “at-risk” and in need of protection, while simultaneously criminalizing many of their experiences. Furthermore, the article details youth description of the transnational continuity of stigmatizing scripts by describing family members ‘usage of scripts but in the US context. The article expands on immigrant families’ scholarship, highlighting family dynamics and their impacts on youths’ wellbeing and families’ unintentional contribution in youths’ stigmatization and criminalization.

Abstract (sommario):
This study was guided by self-determination theory to explore the sport experiences of youth with a physical disability and the role of peers within this context. Interviews were conducted with eight youths using a relational mapping technique and analyzed using a deductive thematic approach. Sport peers were broadly defined by the youth as individuals from a large age range and of all abilities. Youth perceived their sport peers to have dynamic roles throughout their participation in sport. The perceived roles of these sport peers included supporting and thwarting basic psychological needs, and influencing the youths’ processing of sport internalization. Findings focus on the complexity of peer need-thwarting and need-supporting interactions in sport for youth with physical disabilities. Overall, peers have a multifaceted role in the sport experiences of youth identifying with a physical disability and may, in some cases, thwart youths’ basic psychological needs.

Abstract (sommario):
Although the relationship between exposure to intimate partner violence and youths’ psychological and other wellbeing has been widely studied, there is limited research about how youths’ exposure to violence between mother and her intimate partner may be related to youth psychological wellbeing. The study used a sample of urban adolescents in Chicago Southbound to examine whether youths’ exposure to verbal conflict between mother and her intimate partner is related to their suicidality and whether youth depression and aggression may be in between such a linkage. Our findings indicated that one-third of the youth had suicidal thoughts or suicidal/self-hurting attempts. Youths’ exposure to verbal conflict between mother and her intimate partner was associated with their depressive and aggressive symptoms, and depressive symptoms subsequently were linked to suicidality. The findings also showed that youth depressive symptoms and aggressive symptoms were positively correlated, which may influence their associations with suicidality. We concluded that youth exposure to parental intimate partner violence, even comparatively mild forms such as a verbal conflict between mother and her intimate partner, may increase their risk of suicidality by worsening psychological wellbeing. The findings highlight the importance of tackling youth suicidality risks while accounting for their exposure to intimate partner violence including verbal conflicts between parents.

Abstract (sommario):
Several recent studies have found that social media positively influences the online political participation behavior of youth. However, only a few studies have explored the political participation behavior of Chinese youth on specific social media, such as WeChat, the most widely used mobile social media in China. To bridge this gap, this study examines Chinese youths’ contact with WeChat and its subsequent impact on political participation. The study uses a questionnaire to collect data and uses the SPSS 25.0 version to analyse data. The findings show that: (1) Chinese youths' WeChat news contact positively affects their WeChat political participation; (2) Chinese youths' social capital positively affects their political trust; (3) social capital and political trust play a partially mediating role between youths' WeChat news contact and youths' WeChat political participation; (4) media literacy plays a moderating role between youth WeChat news contact and youth WeChat political participation. Implications and limitations of the findings are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
The authors theorize what we call managerialist subterfuge, drawing on distinct ethnographic studies to examine how adult “partners” leverage the language and strategies of corporate managerialism to undermine youths’ radical visions of change. Critical analysis of patterns in interview and participant observation data across two youth participatory action research projects revealed the ways in which adult interventions functioned to co-opt youths’ activist agendas; following the rationale that youth who are presumed to be in need of adult management are “out of their depth” when it comes to civic matters. The authors assert that managerialist subterfuge functions as a mechanism to further bureaucratize youth activism and absolve state actors of accountability for harm that Black youth and youth of color experience.

Abstract (sommario):
The emergence of oil production in Gulf countries and the subsequent oil boom in the 1970s led to massive migration from Kerala to Middle East Gulf countries as part of the post-industrial migratory order. The Gulf countries and their opportunities became an integral part of Kerala's youth life while developing future goals and aspirations. This paper provides insight into the migration aspiration of the youth from Kerala and their awareness of migration. A questionnaire survey was conducted in the second half of 2019 in Calicut, Kerala. The sample consisted of 491 students. Most youths are aware of gulf migration through their family, friends and media. Two out of three youths aspire to migrate abroad in future for a job and related activities. Surprisingly, in Kerala, youth with migrant fathers don't aspire to migrate than youth with non-migrant fathers. While having a migrant friend shows a higher likelihood of aspiration to migrate among youth. In the case of Kerala, in the coming 10 to 20 years, migration will continue as a potential life choice for achieving life goals for youth in Kerala. Policies should promote awareness about migration and facilitate a secure and safe migration for youths.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examined the characteristics, determinants, challenges and performance of self-employment among the youth in Uganda using the School-to-Work Transition survey data for 2015 collected by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics. We employed two analytical approaches: descriptive statistics and binary and multivariate probit models. We found that most employed youths are self–employed. The majority of the youth were poor and had acquired primary education or less. Econometric estimations indicate that self-employment is determined by age, the number of children, financial status, education, high-income motive and flexible work hours. Most youth started businesses with individual savings or family money but not bank loans. Most youth faced unique problems, but financial constraints followed by market competition were the main challenges faced by the self-employed youth. Self-employment is not lucrative, and 20.29% of self-employed youths do not make profits from their entrepreneurial efforts. Moreover, 78.83% of the self-employed youths live below the poverty line.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper aims to provide strategies for youth-serving organizations to maximize opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills within the out-of-school time program context. The sample includes 5 youth-serving agencies who participated in the Youth Driven Spaces initiative led by a Midwest program. Data for this project included observations of youth–adult meetings, field notes from youths’ reflections on key model activities, and interviews with adult staff to identify common challenges and supportive solutions. We identified 6 emergent themes for supporting youth leadership: (a) engage youth in meetings, (b) create opportunities for youth to learn how to be leaders, (c) recognize resistance to youth voice, (d) encourage youth and adults to share constructive feedback, (e) navigate youth–adult boundaries, and (f) practice intentional strategies to retain youth and to onboard new youth and staff. Results provide concrete strategies for practitioners and researchers to empower youth with the skills and resources they need to be effective leaders.

Abstract (sommario):
Although the literature on adolescent health includes studies that incorporate youth perspectives via a participatory design, research that is designed, conducted, and presented by youth remains absent. This paper presents the work of 5 youth investigators on the intersecting topics of adolescent health and social media. Each of these youths was equipped with tools, knowledge, and mentorship for scientifically evaluating a research question. The youths developed a research question that aligned with their interests and filled a gap that they identified in the literature. The youths, whose projects are featured in this paper, designed and conducted their own research project, drafted their own manuscript, and revised and resubmitted a draft based on reviewer input. Each youth worked with a research mentor; however, the research questions, study designs, and suggestions for future research were their own.

Abstract (sommario):
Youth ambitions and the challenges they face remain a major issue facing every economy around the world. This study critically examines youth aspirations and their misfortunes in Ndop municipality. The paper also scrutinises the activities of the government in the process of empowering youth in Ndop municipality and further assesses challenges faced in the empowerment process. In carrying out this study, primary and secondary source materials were consulted and from them, the paper contends that the introduction and implementation of youth development programmes positively affected the youths. They gained skills through training programmes and also received free interest loans for business start-ups which enabled them to be self-reliant. The challenges that accompanied government efforts in the empowerment process affected the intended number of youth targeted to benefit from the government youth support programme (PAJER-U). Even as youth challenges were being addressed by various actors, this study reveals a picture of a combination of achievements and failures in the course of providing a brighter future for the youths.

Abstract (sommario):
Foster children are at disproportionate risk of adverse outcomes throughout the life course. Public policy prioritizes permanency (exiting foster care through reunification with birth parents, adoption, or legal guardianship) to promote foster youths’ healthy development and well-being, but little empirical evidence indicates that permanency, including its most preferred form—reunification—promotes positive outcomes. Using multi-system, statewide longitudinal administrative data, we employed logistic and mixed-effects regression to examine educational attainment and earnings among former foster youth in early adulthood. We found that youth who aged out of care had significantly higher odds of graduating high school and enrolling in college than did reunified youth and youth who exited to guardianship, and they had similar odds as adopted youth. Earnings were similar across groups. Among aged-out (but not reunified) youth, odds of high school graduation and average earnings were higher for youth who spent more time in foster care prior to age 18. Overall, results suggest that permanency alone is insufficient to promote foster youths’ educational and economic attainment.

Abstract (sommario):
How valuable is youth artistry in Toronto theatrical productions? How important is including diverse and under-represented youths at cornerstone theatre festivals like SummerWorks? What are the barriers to youth theatre? In our article, we explore these questions by examining the AMY (Artists Mentoring Youth) Project, which seeks to provide accessible performing arts training and creation programs to women and non-binary youth from equity-seeking communities. In addition to examining the relationship the mentors of the program have with the participants, we look at how vital youth representation is at SummerWorks. The AMY Project works to break down barriers that are often felt by youths in performing arts, and, as a result, young people produce socially engaging work that is well received and necessary to the festival and the Toronto theatre community.

Abstract (sommario):
This study aims to evaluate the quality of service as perceived by the young members, who get service from the Kocaeli International Youth Center, which operates under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. In order to fulfill this objective, the three-dimensional “Scale of the Perceived Service Quality at Youth Centers,” developed by Aycan et. al.(2005) and intended for youth centers, has been applied to 247 youths, who are members of and get service from youth centers. Within the scope of the research, viewpoints of the youths, with regard to some of their demographic characteristics, concerning the elements of the service quality have been analyzed. Consisting of 103 males and 144 females, a total of 247 individuals have taken part in the research. Following the analyses done and in the context of the elements of the service quality at the youth centers as perceived by the youths, it is found that there are no gender-specific differences; according to age variable, there is a difference in all factors in favor of the age group 7-12; as for the variable of family income, there is a difference in output quality factor in favor of the youths with an income level lower than 1300 TLs; and as for the variable of school type, there are significant differences in favor of the primary school level.

Abstract (sommario):
Across the world, youth workers have been active in helping vulnerable youth groups. In Hong Kong, government-funded youth services are conducted by professional social workers to help vulnerable youths. This article adopted a case study approach to investigate a youth group who committed a murder. Nine murderers and two social workers were interviewed. It aims to uncover the structure and activities of the group and analyse the gang intervention prior to the murder to find out what had gone wrong and identify the lessons that social workers can learn from the murder. Four misconceptions in gang intervention have been identified. First, because of the Triad (Chinese-organised crime) affiliation, this is not just a group of deviant youths but a youth gang. Second, because it is a gang, the social workers should not group them but should instead degroup them to avoid contamination. Third, diagnosis is different from labelling. With the right diagnosis, services can be tailor-made to delabel them. Fourth, when the youths are diagnosed as a gang, outreach work instead of centre work should be provided—social workers should reach out to the gangland to uncover the youths’ gang participation and crime involvement.

Abstract (sommario):
This study explored the predictors of smoking initiation among the youth by focusing at 116,637 youths aged 12-34 years in Kiambaa Sub-County. A sample size of 384 youths was calculated using Fishers Formula. A semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data from the youth. Logit model was used to evaluate association between the smoking predictors and smoking initiation among youth in Kiambaa Sub County. It was found that 58.5 percent of the youth ever smoked. Most youth first smoked at the average age 17 years. The significant social economic factors that predict smoking initiation among youth in Kiambaa Sub County include gender, age, educational attainment by parent/guardian, marital status and family size while the significant psychosocial risk factors include use of alcohol and drugs, peer influence, awareness level and self-esteem. The study concludes that the significant predictors of smoking initiation among youth in Kiambaa Sub County fall under two categories; social economic and psychosocial risk factors. There is need for sensitization and educational campaigns among youth on the dangers of smoking in form of seminars, workshops by the county government in conjunction with youth groups and NACADA, widespread sensitization and education against smoking through the mainstream media including radio stations, televisions, social media and newspapers. Parents and guardians should also be role models to the youth and avoid smoking in the presence of children or young people. Educational institutions including schools, colleges and rehabilitation centers need to further create awareness among youth on the dangers associated with smoking. Abstract (sommario):
Background: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is epidemic among young people, especially those at highest risk of acquiring HPV-related cancers. Methods: Youth aged 14–24 years old (N = 1628) were recruited from 13 clinics, community agencies, and social media sites in Los Angeles, California, and New Orleans, Louisiana, that specialized in serving sexual and gender minority youths (SGMY), especially males at risk for HIV. A cross-sectional comparison of sociodemographic and risk histories of HPV vaccinated/unvaccinated youths was conducted using both univariate and multivariate regressions. Results: About half (51.9%) of youth were vaccinated, with similar percentages across states and across genders. Sexual and gender minority youths (SGMY, i.e., gay, bisexual, transgender, and non-heterosexual; 68.8%) and their heterosexual peers (15%) were equally likely to be vaccinated (54%), even though their risk for HPV-related cancers is very different. Vaccinations were higher among younger youth, those not using condoms, youth with greater education, that possessed a primary health care provider, and youth diagnosed with HIV. Vaccinations were lower among youth that were out-of-home due to mental health inpatient hospitalization, drug treatment, homelessness, or incarceration. Conclusions: Special programs are required to target youth experiencing multiple life stressors, especially out-of-home experiences, those with less education, and without the safety net of health insurance or a provider.

Abstract (sommario):
Most of the literature on Latinx youths’ ethnic identity development has been conducted in communities with a large Latinx population. Fewer studies have examined Latinx youths’ ethnic identity in communities with a smaller yet rapidly growing Latinx population (i.e., new Latinx destination communities). Twenty-five Latinx youth (10-15 years)living in a new Latinx destination community participated in semi-structured interviews to identify the ethnic labels they use to describe themselves (i.e., ethnic-identity self-identification) and explore their feelings about being Latinx (i.e., ethnic-identity affirmation). Using an existing coding scheme, we found that most immigrant youth used a national origin label alone, while U.S.-born youth used a pan-ethnic term alone or in combination with an American term. Results of the thematic analysis exploring youths’ ethnic identity affirmation indicated three themes among youths’ account of their ethnic affirmation: (a) pride; (b) communication difficulties; and (c) discrimination. Study findings have implications for examining Latinx youth ethnic identity development in new destination communities.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractWe aimed to analyze the impact of several parenting factors on the relationship between psychopathy and antisocial behavior. Nine hundred youths and their mothers reported on parent–youth interactions, and youth self-report measures of psychopathy, delinquency and violent behavior were taken. Multiple regression was used to test for the significance of interactions between parenting and psychopathy scores. In terms of delinquency, linear interactions between psychopathy and the level of conflict with parents and parents' knowledge of their youths' whereabouts/youths' willingness to disclose information were found based on the data reported by the youths. Data reported by mothers indicated a linear interaction between psychopathy and parents' knowledge/youth disclosure, and a quadratic interaction of conflict with parents. For violence, we used logistic regression models to analyze moderation. No interaction effects between psychopahy scores and parenting factors were found. Youths' reports of high conflict with parents and parents' knowledge/youth disclosure showed to have an impact on violence regardless of the level of psychopathic traits. Implications for the prevention and treatment are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Even though agriculture has ample potential to absorb a large number of people, youths tend to stand away from the subsector. As a result, rural job creation works were started in southern Ethiopia by participating youth in different agricultural enterprises in the form of groups and cooperatives. However, as compared to sector potential, youths are not participating in agricultural job creation works in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study was intended to assess factors affecting youth participation in agricultural enterprises in selected districts of Southern Ethiopia. A multistage sampling procedure was followed to select 160 sample youths. The collected data from sampled youths were analyzed by both descriptive statistics and a probit econometric model. Among the agricultural enterprises, the majority of the youths (63.3%) preferred livestock enterprises indicating livestock sector job creation capacity in Ethiopia. The seasonal nature of agricultural income, fear of agricultural risk, and lack of initial capital were the top three factors hindering youth participation in the agricultural enterprise as rural job creation works. The probit model result shows that, among the hypothesized variables, education level, credit getting bureaucracy, lack of initial capital, fear of the group, risk and uncertainty, and lack of working place determine significantly youth participation in agriculture enterprises. Hence, respective bodies must group youths based on their preferred interest and evaluate their business plan critical before credit disbursement, while solving credit providing terms problems on the microfinance side and the introduction of agricultural insurance through these youth agricultural enterprises for agricultural risk fear needs stakeholders’ interventions. Overall, initial savings, interest rate, and payback period of credit need special policy adjustments to increase youth participation in an agricultural enterprise.

Abstract (sommario):
Despite the widespread transfer of violent youth from juvenile to criminal court, there is little empirical knowledge of the transfer process, rate of transfer, or of case outcomes, sentences, and placements of transferred juveniles. This study examines these issues for 177 violent youths considered for transfer in four urban areas, comparing court outcomes for youths transferred to criminal court with those for youths retained in juvenile court. Varying procedures, criteria, and court rules result in case processing time averaging 2.5 times greater for transferred youth. Most spend this time in detention. Violent youth considered for transfer are adjudicated at a high rate for the offenses as charged in both juvenile and criminal court. Plea bargaining for charges rarely occurred. Youth considered for transfer but retained by the juvenile court received maximum commitments and placements within the jurisdictional limits of the juvenile justice system. Transferred youth convicted in criminal court received even more severe sanctions both in nature and length. Alternatives to incarceration were rarely used by either the juvenile or criminal court.

Abstract (sommario):
This study was conducted to determine the level of stakeholders’ integration, and to validate its roles, and their social responsibilities to the local community in Ethiopia. The purpose of the study was to enhance better understandings about stakeholders’ engagements in the implementation of the Youth Revolving Fund to the local development process. Primary data were collected from 224 youths, and they were analyzed using descriptive and hierarchical regression. The finding of the study revealed that the overall level of stakeholders’ integration to promote youth self-employment was at an average level. Despite this, there were differences in the youths’ knowledge, interaction, and adaptation to stakeholders. As a result, a high level of stakeholders’ integration provides a good opportunity to carry out social responsibilities. Hence, the study concludes that the stakeholders’ integration in the implementation of the Youth Revolving Fund is optimum, and as a result, youths require knowledge, positive attitude, and willingness to change. Thus, local stakeholders should have commitments to support youth self-employment projects in the long-term, and the initiatives to support youth selfemployment should come from the local stakeholders.

Abstract (sommario):
South Africa has a vibrant and vocal youth population capable of holding the government accountable in executing public duties. Nonetheless, the voice of rural youths in social and economic affairs is still unheard, as evidenced by escalating youth poverty and unemployment levels. This situation is inconsistent with the National Development Plan (2012-2030), which advocates for equal economic opportunities and enhanced human capabilities for youths. This paper aims to examine how the capability approach can be used to promote the inclusion of rural youth in social and economic development in South Africa. This study adopted a qualitative approach that utilized documents and peer-reviewed articles on youth capabilities and inclusion in social and economic affairs in South Africa. The study responded to the following questions: What is the role of the rural youth in the socio-economic affairs of South Africa? What are the challenges encountered by the rural youth in participating in the socio-economic affairs of the country? Through critical discourse analysis, the article reveals that the absence of entrepreneurial skills, low education levels, and limited investment in youth initiatives are major obstacles to harnessing rural youth potential in the social and economic affairs of South Africa. Therefore, the rural youth must actively engage the government on issues of local economic development, entrepreneurship, and innovation, which are grey areas for promoting youth economic empowerment, to enhance their social and economic statuses.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper discusses the factors affecting how much the youth are engaged in development programmes. Despite development interventions that the government and its partners have embarked on to promote youth development in Kenya, there is room for improvement in youth engagement. The study utilized a pragmatism research philosophy, incorporating qualitative and quantitative research methods within a mixed-methods research framework and concurrent triangulation research design. Using simple random sampling procedure, 329 youths were selected for the quantitative component, while 18 participants were selected purposively for the qualitative component. Quantitative data was collected through the survey method using interviewer-administered questionnaires, while qualitative data was gathered through key informant and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were analysed statistically, while qualitative data were analysed thematically. Results show the highest proportion of respondents (41.7%) had low extent of engagement in development interventions. Individual youth factors such as the level of education (p=.0120), age cohort (p=.027), and locality (p=.010), and level of independence (p=.05) influenced the extent of youth engagement in development interventions. However, the gender of the youth, marital status, parental economic status, parental occupation and parental/guardians’ level of education had no statistically significant relationship with the extent of youth engagement. Tailoring youth development interventions to the unique characteristics of all youths is recommended based on this paper's conclusion that low youth engagement was attributed to individual youth-related factors. Additionally, programme managers should encourage genuine youth involvement in all stages of interventions’ development to ensure that they own interventions that target them.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Northern Youth Abroad (NYA) is the first and presently the only educational travel program developed specifically to meet the needs of the Canadian North’s youth. Part of NYA’s mandate, cultivating northern youth leadership, has received very little academic attention and merits greater investigation. In this qualitative case study, we draw on semi-structured interviews with 10 Nunavut Inuit past participants, one NYA staff member, and one NYA Board member, as well as archival research at NYA. We argue that NYA alumni use both traditional Inuit and Euro-Canadian approaches to leadership development; as a result, these youths have created what Bhabha described as a “third space,” where the binary dynamic between colonial/neo-colonial and traditional influences is displaced by new structures that weave heterogeneous influences together. These findings suggest that NYA’s Nunavut Inuit alumni possess strong and adaptive leadership abilities. We conclude that in order to better understand the challenges that face the current generation of Inuit youths, researchers should be well advised to recognise the adaptability, resilience, and leadership that Nunavut Inuit youths such as NYA alumni have developed and use in a wide variety of areas of their lives.

Abstract (sommario):
As online media has become an increasingly important part of youths’ daily lives, it is critical for the field to explore questions related to youth online media use in order to support youth workers, youth development practice and programming. Using a national sample of youth age 13-22 (N = 585), the current study explored demographic differences in youth online media use, and examined associations between youth demographics, parental monitoring, parent-child relationship quality, and likelihood of being a frequent user of online activities. Although youth reported being frequent users of online media, Internet use was not the same for all youth. Online media use differed significantly by youth age, gender, race, and family relationship quality. The findings remind the field to consider the young people we are working with and how they use online media in their daily lives.

Abstract (sommario):
In 2000 to 2016 the highest number of suicides among Dutch youths under 20 in any given year was 58 in 2013. In 2017 this number increased to 81 youth suicides. To get more insight in what types of youths died by suicide, particularly in recent years (2013–2017) we looked at micro-data of Statistics Netherlands and counted suicides among youths till 23, split out along gender, age, regions, immigration background and place in household and compared this to the general population of youths in the Netherlands. We also compared the demographics of young suicide victims to those of suicide victims among the population as a whole. We found higher suicide rates among male youths, older youths, those of Dutch descent and youths living alone. These differences were generally smaller than in the population as a whole. There were also substantial geographical differences between provinces and healthcare regions. The method of suicide is different in youth compared to the population as a whole: relatively more youth suicides by jumping or lying in front of a moving object and relatively less youth suicides by autointoxication or drowning, whereas the most frequent method of suicide among both groups is hanging or suffocation.
