As freshwater becomes an increasingly scarce and expensive natural resource, novel water-saving irrigation methods for dwarfing apple orchards are needed in the Loess Plateau. However, studies are lacking on the effects of novel root-zone irrigation technology on leaf-level photosynthesis, which directly determines the yield and survival ability of trees. In this study, the leaf gas characteristics and water status of five-year-old dwarfing apple trees in the Loess Plateau of China were monitored during the 2016–2017 growing seasons under water storage pit irrigation (WSPI) and surface irrigation (SI) treatments. Under WSPI, the leaf water potential (Ψm), net photosynthesis rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (gs), and chlorophyll content (Chl) were significantly higher than those under SI (by 12.21–28.36%), while non-photochemical quenching, superoxide dismutase, and sucrose were lower. Compared with SI, WSPI improved dwarfing apple yield by 25.4% and 26.7% in 2016 and 2017, respectively. WSPI increased the photosystem II (PSII) activity by increasing the chlorophyll fluorescence features (the potential quantum yield of PSII (Fv/Fm), actual quantum yield (ΦII), photochemical quenching (qP), and electron transport rate (ETR)). Principal component analysis showed that Ψm, Chl, the chlorophyll fluorescence features (qP, ΦII, and ETR), Pn, and gs could represent the leaf photosynthetic difference between WSPI and SI treatments. Results indicated that apple under WSPI could improve its yield through enhancing leaf photosynthetic performance, and water storage pit irrigation is an effective root-zone irrigation method for apple orchards on the Loess Plateau.

Przywódcy ci, nieskorzy do schlebiania demosowi, nie są w stanie wspiąć się na szczyty władzy. Jawią się jako ludzie politycznie indolentni.</p>

To better understand the physical processes involved in the wave–seabed–pipeline interactions (WSPI), a three-dimensional numerical model for the wave-induced soil response around an offshore pipeline is proposed in this paper. Seabed instability around an offshore pipeline is one of the key factors that need to be considered by coastal engineers in the design of offshore infrastructures. Most previous investigations into the problem of WSPI have only considered wave conditions and have not included currents, despite the co-existence of waves and currents in natural ocean environments. Unlike previous studies, currents are included in the present study for the numerical modeling of WSPI, using an integrated FVM model, in which the volume-averaged Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (VARANS) equation is used to solve the mean fluid field, while Biot’s consolidation equation is used to describe the solid–pore fluid interaction in the porous medium. Numerical examples demonstrate a significant influence of ocean current direction and angle on the wave-induced pore pressures and the resultant seabed liquefaction around the pipeline, which cannot be observed in two-dimensional (2D) numerical simulation.

Emergency interconnected operation (EIO) between adjacent blocks in a water distribution system (WDS) is one of the most effective countermeasures of a water utility when abnormal conditions (e.g., suspended water supply, pipe burst) occur at a certain location. For improved WDS operation and management, calculating a reliable performance indicator that accurately represents the states of consumers under both normal and abnormal conditions is essential. In this study, a water supply performance indicator (WSPI) was developed for assessing the hydraulic performance of a WDS in terms of consumer usability and satisfaction. A fuzzy function is used to represent the consumer satisfaction with the water supply level, and the satisfaction of different consumers can be adjusted by setting the variables of the fuzzy function. The WSPI can be applied to a hydraulic analysis model based on data from an actual WDS to assess the water supply capacity for each node and the entire network. It can also be used in an advanced pressure-driven analysis model to assess the WDS performance under various abnormal conditions. The proposed WSPI was applied to six suspended water supply scenarios of an actual WDS with and without EIO to assess the effectiveness of this countermeasure.

Opracowanie jest próbą ukazania sytuacji rozstania rodzicówz punktu widzenia doświadczeń sędziego rodzinnego oraz działańwspierających, kierowanych do rodziców i dzieci w sytuacji rozpadurodziny, prowadzonych przez Śląską Fundację Błękitny Krzyż. Z jednejstrony postępowania sądowe i orzeczenia są wydawane przez sądy kie-rujące się dobrem dziecka. Z drugiej jednak strony przyczyniają się dotworzenia podstaw do eskalacji konfliktu między stronami, co sprawia,że dziecko, przeżywające rozpad swojej rodziny, uwikłane jest w walkęnajbliższych sobie osób, a rodzice często zmuszają dziecko do wybo-ru pomiędzy ojcem a matką. This article is inspired by private research conducted by the author over the past few years. The study involved more than 600 students of WSE UAM in Poznan and WP WSPiA in Poznan. The article describes metaphor of the labyrinth. Labyrinth and its metaphor is known in cultures and religions for more than 4,500 years and is still strongly present in many. The main purpose of this study is to explore and show psychological, cultural and philosophical significance and importance of the labyrinth and its metaphors in the modern world - especially among young adults. The article is also a prelude to a discussion about the use of the metaphor of the labyrinth in therapy by art – especially horticultural therapy.

Abstract The paper draws on Colombo, Sri Lanka as the case study for developing Water Sensitive Planning and Design (WSPD) to deliver a flood resilient urban environment. Digital data and documentary data were evaluated to analyse water sensitive characteristics, potentials and constraints within the catchment. Spatial analysis tools in ArcGIS were used when analysing issues in the landscape mosaic. Evaluation of the landscape mosaic clearly identifies urban form and its significant issues in creating ecological links and patches, such as, marshes, streams, roads and shrubs that can create potential opportunities during stormwater management. Geographically, the low-lying area plays an important role as the natural detention/retention basin for stormwater of the urban catchment during intensive rainfall. In addition, increased impervious surfaces created by high-density urban development and the limited availability of space have created challenges for retrofitting additional stormwater infrastructure. The study identifies the important role that urban planning can play in safeguarding strategies to deal with urban water related issues in more compromising and accommodating ways when situating stormwater infrastructure to optimise the connectivity and corridors. The study demonstrated the importance of street layouts in the urban landscape to support the development of WSPD. This approach provides sustainable ecological protection and outcomes to achieve a flood resilient environment in the catchment.

Abstract This paper presents an integrated, computer-based generic framework to couple urban water related models into a decision support tool (DST) for urban-water management. The DST, built on a participatory modelling approach, enables stakeholders to analyze impacts of climate variation, population growth, and alternative management solutions ranging from centralized to distributed options. The coupling of external models, building of the DST, and execution of simulation processes is achieved by employing GoldSim, which is linked to a database management tool and a shared library. A post-processing package generates outcomes for decision makers in the form of a new criterion, the Water System Performance Index (WSPI). The application of DST is demonstrated for the water service area of the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities (SLCDPU). Results show that a decentralized alternative increases the reliability of the system without changing the system's vulnerability. Centralized alternative improves the overall performance of the system based on WSPI results, but decrease in performance is still noticeable under the hot and dry climate condition. Overall, the system is very sensitive to changes in climatic conditions. Results show that during droughts, supply management is not the sole solution and compulsory demand-management practices should be instigated.

Możliwe jest jednak poznanie Go poprzez Jego dzieła, ale do tego niezbędny jest wolny od grzechu umysł i posiadanie takich cnót, jak mądrość, sprawiedliwość, miłość i wiara. Tylko wtedy Bóg będzie mógł „mieszkać” i „przechadzać się” w nas, i da nam szansę spotkania Go. Izydor z Peluzjum porównuje prawdziwą wiedzę o Bogu do „wina”, co wynika z obecności wcielonego Boga Logosu na Ziemi i objawienia jego nauczania. Ponieważ Pan opisuje siebie jako winorośl, pewność wiedzy o Nim jest nazywana „winem”. Bóg jest Jeden i Trójjedyny. Dowód ten pochodzi z Biblii. Peluzjota wyjaśnia, że liczba pojedyncza w Biblii, która jest używana odnośnie Boga, odnosi się do wszystkich trzech Osób Bożych, które są współistotne, liczba mnoga zaś odnosi się do hipostazy Boga w Trójcy Jedynego. Izydor podkreśla, że znajomość Boga wymaga wielkiej dojrzałości duchowej i mądrości. Wiara ludzi we wcielone Słowo Boże objawia się pośród Boga w Trójcy Jedynego i pomaga racjonalnemu stworzeniu wspiąć się do rzeczywistości niebieskiej i „rozmawiać” z Bogiem. Osoba przyodziana godłem prawdziwej wiedzy o Bogu, danej jej przez światło Ducha Świętego, czyni ją zdolną do walki z tymi, którzy nadużywają prawd doktryny Kościoła.

Accurate global solar radiation prediction is highly essential for related research on renewable energy sources. The cost implication and measurement expertise of global solar radiation emphasize that intelligence prediction models need to be applied. On the basis of long-term measured daily solar radiation data, this study uses a novel regularized online sequential extreme learning machine, integrated with variable forgetting factor (FOS-ELM), to predict global solar radiation at Bur Dedougou, in the Burkina Faso region. Bayesian Information Criterion (BIC) is applied to build the seven input combinations based on speed (Wspeed), maximum and minimum temperature (Tmax and Tmin), maximum and minimum humidity (Hmax and Hmin), evaporation (Eo) and vapor pressure deficiency (VPD). For the difference input parameters magnitudes, seven models were developed and evaluated for the optimal input combination. Various statistical indicators were computed for the prediction accuracy examination. The experimental results of the applied FOS-ELM model demonstrated a reliable prediction accuracy against the classical extreme learning machine (ELM) model for daily global solar radiation simulation. In fact, compared to classical ELM, the FOS-ELM model reported an enhancement in the root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) by (68.8–79.8%). In summary, the results clearly confirm the effectiveness of the FOS-ELM model, owing to the fixed internal tuning parameters.

Abstract (sommario):

The paper investigates the effects of mechanical wheel slide protection devices (WSPD) on the braking capacity for coaches equipped with disc or cast iron block brakes. Decelerations and jerks, that affect the passengers comfort, are also analyzed. An original simulation program, based on experimentally determined air pressure evolutions in brake cylinder is used for this purpose. Results of numerical simulations show that in the case of repeated actuations of mechanical WSPDs, disc brake vehicles are more affected in terms of braking capacity. Regarding jerks during braking actions, in both normal and low adhesion conditions, vehicles equipped with high power cast iron block brake with two pressure levels prove to be more affected.

Water storage pit irrigation (WSPI) has been proven effective in improving the water use efficiency of fruit trees in Loess Plateau, but so far there are still no matching efficient fertilization management methods. A two-year experiment was conducted to explore the management strategy of fertilization under the consideration of apple production and environmental sustainability. N isotope tracer technique was used to study the distribution of labelled nitrogen in soil, leaf, root and fruit. Moreover, the yield in different fertilizer managements were observed to evaluate the apple production. The results showed that increasing the amount of fertilizer could increase the accumulation of fertilizer nitrogen in soil, but also increased the risk of nitrogen leaching. Under the same amount of fertilizer, split fertilization can effectively increase of fertilizer nitrogen in soil by a mean of 4.7 times. Further, N300 application with split fertilization effectively increased apple yield. The yield of N300II treatment was higher than other treatment by maximum 68.5%. In addition, the root system mainly absorbed the fertilizer nitrogen applied in the current year, and the fruit mainly absorbed the fertilizer nitrogen applied in the previous year, but there was no significant difference in the leaves.

AbstractThis study sought to identify influences on rehabilitation counsellors' preference to work in rural areas, including their recruitment to, and retention in, rural work settings. Participants were 38 practicing rehabilitation counsellors (31% males) recruited through the Australian Society of Rehabilitation Counsellors and the Rehabilitation Counselling Association of Australasia. The mean age of participants was 38.67 years (SD= 12.9 years, age range, 25 to 65 years). Nineteen (50%) were working in rural areas at the time of the survey. A specifically designed survey, the Work Setting Preference Inventory (WSPI), which incorporated both quantitative and qualitative response options, was used to collect data. Analysis involved open coding of data into themes that emerged from the participants' responses. Descriptive statistical analysis was applied to quantify the prevalence or salience of particular themes. Results suggest that participants perceived preference to work in rural area to be influenced by the unique lifestyle of rural communities and family friendly employer policies. They perceived the availability of employment and training opportunities and supplemental financial compensations as incentives to attract rehabilitation counsellors to work in rural areas. Programs to recruit rehabilitation counsellors to rural areas should address employee lifestyle preferences in the context their overall career development.

Czas pod Smoleńskiem cofa się i zapętla, a polski bohater narodowy podąża ścieżką pasyjną i ląduje w Edenie. Tak to jest: kiedy ktoś nie zna siebie, jest zgubiony. A narracja i tak się sprzedaje. Ktoś konstatuje: w wielu krajach do głosu (i do władzy) dochodzą grupy zawłaszczające pamięć i pielęgnujące nienawiść. Radujmy się: wszak nie o klasycznie rozumianą prawdę tu chodzi. Abstract Objectives Intervertebral disc segmentation is one of the methods to diagnose spinal disease through the degeneration in asymptomatic and symptomatic patients. Even though numerous intervertebral disc segmentation techniques are available, classifying the grades in the intervertebral disc is a hectic challenge in the existing disc segmentation methods. Thus, an effective Whale Spine-Generative Adversarial Network (WSpine-GAN) method is proposed to segment the intervertebral disc for effective grade classification. Methods The proposed WSpine-GAN method effectively performs the disc segmentation, wherein the weights of Spine-GAN are optimally tuned using Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). Then, the refined disc features, such as pixel-based features and the connectivity features are extracted. Finally, the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) classifier based on the pfirrmann’s grading system performs the grade classification. Results The implementation of the grade classification strategy based on the proposed WSpine-GAN and KNN is performed using the real-time database, and the performance based on the metrics yielded the accuracy, true positive rate (TPR), and false positive rate (FPR) values of 97.778, 97.83, and 0.586% for the training percentage and 92.382, 90.580, and 1.972% for the K-fold value. Conclusions The proposed WSpine-GAN method effectively performs the disc segmentation by integrating the Spine-GANmethod and WOA. Here, the spinal cord images are segmented using the proposed WSpine-GAN method by tuning the weights optimally to enhance the performance of the disc segmentation.

Peningkatan proses berkelanjutan pada pengembangan perangkat lunak adalah aspek yang sangat penting dalam organisasi pengembangan perangkat lunak berbasis web untuk memenuhi tujuan organisasi yang hemat biaya. Berdasarkan bukti-bukti penelitian sebelumnya, menunjukkan sebagian besar organisasi pengembangan perangkat lunak berbasis web menghadapi hambatan besar untuk mengadopsi model dan standar perbaikan manajemen proses perangkat lunak yang ada. karena mereka menganggap mereka berorientasi pada organisasi perangkat lunak tradisional. Pada artikel ini, kami ingin mengetahui pengaruh nyata penggunaan model kematangan peningkatan proses perangkat lunak untuk memandu organisasi pengembangan perangkat lunak berbasis web dalam meningkatkan program implementasi peningkatan proses perangkat lunak yang mereka miliki dengan belajar dari pengalaman organisasi lain yang sudah ada dalam mengembangkan proyek berbasis web. Kekuatan pada model yang kami gunakan adalah pemeriksaan dan analisis pendekatan peningkatan proses perangkat lunak yang ditemukan dalam literatur. Selain itu, model ini terinspirasi dari model CMMI dan didasarkan pada faktor penentu keberhasilan dan praktik terbaik yang diidentifikasi melalui literatur. Hasil yang dicapai menunjukkan ada pengaruh positip model dengan implementasi di dunia nyata.

Abstract In this paper we investigate the effects of an externally imposed axial mass flux (axial pressure gradient, axial through flow) on ferrofluidic Taylor-Couette flow under the influence of either an axial or a transverse magnetic field. Without an imposed axial through flow, due to the symmetry-conserving axial field and the symmetry-breaking transverse field, it gives rise to various vortex flows in ferrofluidic Taylor-Couette flow such as wavy Taylor vortex flow (wTVF), wavy spiral vortex flow (wSPI) and wavy vortex flows ($${\boldsymbol{wTV}}{{\boldsymbol{F}}}_{{{\boldsymbol{H}}}_{{\boldsymbol{x}}}}$$ wTV F H x and $${\boldsymbol{wSP}}{{\boldsymbol{I}}}_{{{\boldsymbol{H}}}_{{\boldsymbol{x}}}}$$ wSP I H x ), which are typically produced by a nonlinear interaction of rotational, shear and magnetic instabilities. In addition, when an axial through flow is imposed to a ferrofluidic Taylor-Couette flow in the presence of either an axial or a transverse magnetic field, previously unknown new helical vortex structures are observed. In particular, we uncover ‘modulated Mixed-Cross-Spirals’ with a combination of at least three different dominant azimuthal wavenumbers. Emergence of such new flow states indicates richer but potentially more controllable dynamics in ferrofluidic flows, i.e., an imposed axial through flow will be a new controllable factor/parameter in applications of a ferrofluidic and magnetic flows flow.
