Abstract (sommario):
The global environment of organizations requires from management to respond promptly to the demands of a changing environment, both external and internal, requiring managers to continually develop their skills, especially in the area of soft skills. The current management of organizations, in an effort to make the most of their employees’ potential, seeks to promote an individual approach to their motivation, expresses an increased interest in employee satisfaction and loyalty, encourages employee involvement in achieving organization goals, seeks to apply W-L-B and more. This requires managers to have a high level of social skills and an appropriate leadership style that considers both the needs of the individual and his cultural background. Highly productive employees are the key to success for all organizations, they are the key to a competitive advantage in the global business world. At present, there is a strong pressure on organizations to behave in the spirit of corporate social responsibility both by senior staff and by the general public. Highly required is a style of leadership that honors basic ethical principles in any country. It should be stressed that there are still organizations that do not respect, for example, the need for ethical leadership, ethical decision-making at all levels of management and all employees. The aim of the paper is to point to preferred leadership styles especially in the younger generation, helping to increase their job satisfaction and productivity, as well as those of managers who will support this effort in a culturally diverse environment. In the submitted analysis of the topic selected scientific methods were applied such as e.g. a critical analysis and synthesis, comparison and deduction.

Abstract (sommario):
This article examines principals’ social work environment in the context of a series of school reforms inspired by new public management. With the point of departure in Job Demands and Resources, we put forward the following overall research question: which job demands and job resources are related to principals’ job satisfaction? The article has a mixed methods approach, combining material from questionnaires (466 participants) and interviews (15 participants). The results of the questionnaire indicate that job resources such as role clarity, influence, meaningfulness, and social community with senior managers were related to job satisfaction, while lacking job resources (influence, social community with senior managers) and experiencing role conflicts were associated with a higher intention to leave the profession. The interviews provide a more in-depth understanding of the shift of institutional logics within the school sector, enforcing boundaries between principals’ professional and managerial roles in accordance with New Public Managerial Ideas. The separation between profession and management contributes to principals’ organisational and social work environments being in a blind spot. This is not only a problem for the principals, but also a risk factor for the organisations themselves, as stress and ill-health among leaders tend to affect the entire organisation.

Soza, Jesse Robert. "Teacher Alienation: Reconceptualizing the Educational Work Environment". Digital Commons at Loyola Marymount University and Loyola Law School, 2015. https://digitalcommons.lmu.edu/etd/184.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The following dissertation examined the relationship between dissatisfaction found within teacher working conditions and Melvin Seeman's theory of alienation. More specifically, it showed that all forms of teacher dissatisfaction engender feelings of alienation and that the oppressive nature of alienation is the root cause of all the negative consequences associated with teacher dissatisfaction. After an introduction, the literature review presents detailed descriptions of Seeman's theory of alienation, Paulo Freire's theory of empowerment, and the latest information surrounding the issue of teacher dissatisfaction. Next, qualitative narratives from interviews with six teachers about their experiences with dissatisfaction are presented. The researcher then shows how the participants' answers matched the information from the literature surrounding dissatisfaction. The alienation framework is then applied to the data to show its presence within the teachers' experiences. Once the narratives are shown to be connected to both the dissatisfaction and alienation literature, the researcher discusses how alienation is an inextricable part of dissatisfying working conditions. An analysis is then presented to explain how alienation plays a foundational role in creating detrimental educational environments. Finally, possible solutions and further research possibilities are detailed.

Bergvall, Ricardo. "Secure remote access to a work environment". Thesis, Högskolan i Halmstad, Akademin för informationsteknologi, 2021. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hh:diva-45124.

Abstract (sommario):
This project is about how free, open-source tools can create reasonable, secure and flexible remote access solutions for smaller companies with a limited budget.  Secure remote access to a working environment is a solution for its time, as last year Covid-19 change the working environment for millions of employers and employees. The importance of secure remote access to a working environment became noticeable as offices closed down and employers started working from home. Still, the need for secure access to the company's infrastructure remains. This is where Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) enter the picture, as it has a broad application scope and is particularly useful for secure remote access. My project was subdivided into three parts: How to implement secure remote access to a working environment within the requirements of the chosen company, which are an inexpensive solution with high-security features.  Automate the creation and distribution of all the necessary parts that their employees will need in a VPN structure. Research about the future direction regarding VPN and the importance of cybersecurity to help ensure security preparedness for the company. The chosen solution was OpenVPN and Google authenticator, together with a written bash script. It became a solution that was free, flexible, secure and scalable. But why the need and what about the future?  Research shows that a high percentage of small and medium-sized enterprises are vulnerable to cyberattacks. It also shows that these companies have the lowest cybersecurity. "It wouldn't happen to us" is dangerous but, sadly, a typical mindset throughout the S&M companies. It's primarily because of this S&M's are more exposed than larger companies. The future of VPN's has become more important than ever before, and it's something that during Covid-19 has risen in use all over the world, the research and development of VPNs has accelerated. The research objectives of this project are of high interest to many other organizations in the same position, and the presented work has helped answer the question: "Where will we stand in a few years regarding secure remote work, cybersecurity andencrypted networks?"

Valterová, Jana. "Czech-Scottish Cultural Standards at Work Environment". Master's thesis, Vysoká škola ekonomická v Praze, 2015. http://www.nusl.cz/ntk/nusl-203789.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This diploma thesis is focused on Czech-Scottish cultural standards at work environment. The main aim is to define Scottish cultural standards at work environment from the Czech point of view and to compare them with the theory. The thesis begins with the definition of culture, cultural dimensions introduced by G. Hofstede, F. Trompenaars and E. T. Hall and cultural standards by A. Thomas. It continues to the description of Scotland with its geography, history, language, economic situation and various systems in the society, such as the legal system, educational system, health care system, a role of the family and religion. Further, Scottish national identity, key values and traditions are identified and there are added some information about work in Scotland. The thesis then leads us onwards to the determination of eight cultural standards at work environment and six cultural standards connected with the daily life in Scotland based on the qualitative research. The standards concerning work environment are further compared with the theory. At the end of the thesis, there are provided some recommendations for Czechs who are going to work with Scots.

Cuff, Lisa. "Healthy Work Environment: Essentials for Outcome Improvement". ScholarWorks, 2016. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/2807.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this project was to identify the standards for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The employees of a 39-bed medical surgical unit within a 697-bed metropolitan medical center were selected through collaboration with the practicum site. Out of 68 allocated positions for this unit, only permanent employees were selected to participate. An employee presented the purpose of the project, the survey process, and inferred consent represented by online login to complete the survey. Following the online assessment, the employee explained the AACN healthy work environment standards in a subsequent presentation. The online healthy work environment assessment measured the AACN healthy work environment standards, which included skilled communication, collaboration, effective decision making, appropriate staffing, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership. A mean score was generated by the healthy work environment online assessment tool on a scale ranging from 1 (Needs Improvement) to 5 (Excellent). Data from the online assessment were analyzed by comparing mean pre- (3.03) and post- (2.17) project results, which revealed a need for greater understanding of AACN healthy work environment standards. Increased education of the AACN healthy work environment standards and implementation of a formal program would impact nursing turnover rates, improve employee engagement, and ultimately improve the care and outcome of patients, thereby promoting positive social change.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The paper deals with the problem of out-of-class students’ independent work in information and communication learning environment based on cloud technologies. Results of appropriate survey among students of pedagogical university are discussed. The students answered the questions about systematicity of their learning activity and propositions for its improving. It is determined that the leading problems are needs in more careful instruction according to features of the task completing, insufficient experience in self-management, the lack of internal motivation. Most of all, students recommend to provide the tasks with detail instruction (oral or written) and to pay attention to careful planning the time that is necessary for full completion of the task. It is pointed that such complicated requirements can be satisfied only by complex use of information and communication technologies as well as the automated system of pedagogical diagnostics. Some requirements for management of students’ out-of-classroom independent work are formulated as a result of this discussion.

Balali, Vahid. Connected Simulation for Work Zone Safety Application. Mineta Transportation Institute, luglio 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.31979/mti.2021.2137.

Abstract (sommario):
Every year, over 60,000 work zone crashes are reported in the United States (FHWA 2016). Such work zone crashes have resulted in over 4,400 fatal and 200,000 non-fatal injuries in the last 5 years (FHWA 2016, BLS 2014). Apart from the physical and emotional trauma, the annual cost of these injuries exceeds $4 million-representing significant wasted resources. To improve work zone safety, this research developed a system architecture for unveiling high-risk behavioral patterns among highway workers, equipment operators, and drivers within dynamic highway work zones. This research implemented the use of a connected virtual environment, which is an immersive hyper-realistic and virtual environment where multiple agents (e.g. workers, drivers, and equipment handlers) control independent simulators but experience an interactive and shared experience. For this project, the team conducted an in-depth analysis of accident investigation, simulated accident scenarios, and tested diverse interventions to prevent high-risk behavior. Overall, the research improved understanding of behavioral patterns that lead to injuries and fatalities of highway workers in order to better protect them in high-risk work environments. As part of making transportation smarter, this project contributes to smart behavioral safety analysis.

Abstract (sommario):
Under the concept of atomic settlement, the time between the trade and the settlement of transactions is reduced to a very small fraction of time (e.g., seconds or less), making them instantaneous. A second feature is the exchange of all the assets in the transaction in a single event, making them simultaneous — no delivery or payment occurs if the others do not occur too, commonly known as delivery versus payment (DvP) or payment versus payment (PvP). Making the settlement of the transaction instantaneous and simultaneous may have several benefits. It could effectively mitigate risks to all parties by guaranteeing the immediate and concurrent transfer of all assets in a transaction. By squeezing the transaction to its lowest time and space dimensions (i.e., its atom), some risks related to the settlement of transactions may be mitigated, e.g., replacement-cost risk. However, making the settlement instantaneous and simultaneous only benefits some trading scenarios. In other scenarios, it will create higher liquidity requirements for the parties involved and increase settlement risk. This could be particularly burdensome in a positive interest rate environment. Therefore, notwithstanding its current allure, it is important to identify in which cases it makes no sense to settle atomically and how to make it work. For those transactions that do not benefit from instantaneous and simultaneous settlement, we suggest not working on the smallest units (i.e., the atoms) but on the second smallest units (i.e., the molecules). We propose building an intermediate centralized layer between the trade and settlement layers that will use atoms (i.e. single transactions) to use smart algorithms to create molecules (i.e., sets of transactions) that make sense to settle from a liquidity-efficiency viewpoint. This way, more transactions will benefit from faster and concurrent transactions while avoiding high liquidity costs.
