Abstract (sommario):
This research is motivated by the fact that many people still do not understand the concept of buying and selling, primarily buying and selling bay' al inah. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide an understanding to the public about the concept of buying and selling bay' al inah, starting from the transaction procedures to the legal basis of this sale and purchase according to Imam Syafi'i in al-Umm and Imam Malik in al-Muwatta'. This writing uses descriptive qualitative research. To obtain data using a library approach (library research). Data collection techniques are carried out by collecting and reviewing research literature and other data sources relevant to the discussion. The data analysis used is a descriptive qualitative technique, describing and explaining the data of the object of research and comparative analysis, namely looking for points of similarities, differences and the specificity of the thoughts of 2 figures. From this research, it can be concluded that Imam Syafi'i in al-Umm allows this buying and selling because the pillars and conditions are fulfilled, namely, there are buyers, sellers, goods being traded and contracted or consented to. Meanwhile, according to Imam Malik in al-Muwat}t}a', this sale and purchase are declared invalid because there will be an element of Sadd al-Dhari'ah, namely that there will be a lousy purpose from the sale and purchase. This goal leads to prohibited acts, namely usury. Riba here occurs because the prices are different from the two buying and selling.

Abstract (sommario):
A filmmaker and trailblazing film distribution entrepreneur, Freude (1942–2009) became a central figure in the San Francisco Bay Area film community in the late 1960s and 1970s. Her Serious Business Company (1972–83) distributed many of the era’s most acclaimed independent and experimental films, but its lasting impact created a platform for discovering lesser-known works. Freude’s contributions to the experimental film and independent filmmaking communities remain largely unsung. This article will excite further investigation and recognition into Freude’s important efforts to support California and national artist-made filmmaking movements as it examines her professional relationships and draws from interviews, correspondence, and ephemera from the Serious Business Company archives at the Bancroft Library at UC Berkeley. It also builds on recent efforts at BAMPFA and San Francisco State University’s the Archive Project where authors Antonella Bonfanti and Tanya Zimbardo have recently been involved with public programs about Freude’s legacy.

Abstract (sommario):
Bridge that implement BIM can increase planning accuracy, reduce construction risks, and better plan the entire project. PTPP is a pioneer contractor that has implemented BIM in Indonesia since the end of 2015. The PTPP division that handles road and bridge infrastructure is Infrastructure 1. The aim of this research is to evaluate whether the BIM implementation is commonly carried out on PTPP bridge projects. The aim of this research is to evaluate the BIM implementation to the bridge project. This research method was used library research with a focus on the use of valid literature that already has previous research. The result of this research is that the BIM implementation to PTPP bridge projects is commonly used. All PTPP bridge projects since the end of 2015, a total of 3 projects have implemented BIM. Two bridge projects, Kendari Bay Bridge and the PIK 2 Connecting Bridge, North Jakarta, provide information about the implementation of BIM which can be accessed by the public via the official PTPP website and social media. Information on BIM implementation includes the process, software used, and the benefits on the bridge project. Meanwhile, for the Bogeg Bridge, Serang, no detailed information is available regarding the application of BIM. For the Kendari Bay Bridge project, the benefit of implementing BIM is that PTPP designed the bridge in just one month, saving three months. 3D model visualization really helps minimize errors and save time during the actual construction phase so that teams can collaborate easily using the same 3D model throughout the project. For the PIK 2 Bridge project, the benefits of implementing BIM include synchronous work drawings, helping with volume calculations, speeding up topographic surveis, detecting discrepancies, visualizing the project implementation schedule, helping coordinate with the project team, and helping with quality checks in the field.

Abstract (sommario):
Richmond, California, a small industrial center north of Oakland and just east of San Francisco, expanded from a prewar population of 23,000 to more than 100,000 permanent residents in 1942. While Henry J. Kaiser's shipbuilding corporation advertised for—and city leaders sought—white skilled labor, military realities and expanding Allied production needs encouraged the hiring of unskilled African American, indigenous, and Chinese American men and women in unprecedented numbers. While the early struggles of workers to find housing and adequate services in Richmond and the East Bay more broadly have been clearly documented by historians, a legacy of continued substandard housing and services disproportionately affected minority workers and their families. Redlined, or denied rental applications because of race through legal policy and unofficial neighborhood agreements, minority workmen and women disproportionately remained in substandard housing even after the construction of federally funded housing units. Exposed to industrial pollutants, urban waste, and human effluent despite the efforts of both humanitarian-minded industrialists and local, state, and federal government officials, these minority groups faced racial and class-based challenges during World War II home front production, which have been overshadowed by the triumphant image of Rosie the Riveter and the total war victory of that “greatest generation.” Research in the Bancroft Library, the Richmond Museum, and other archival databases demonstrates how public contracts became sources of private money for industrialists, leading to the development of facilities that public funds could not support, and thereby reducing the quality of life for minority residents.

Abstract (sommario):
Learning outcomes By the end of the case and class discussion, students will be able to estimate project costs and benefits, both tangible and intangible, analyse enterprise environmental factors that may impact a project, identify the complexities of managing a multinational project and evaluate a project status and determine if continuation or cessation is the best option. Case overview/synopsis This case narrates the story to connect landlocked Botswana’s rich coalfields with the Namibian coast. In 2005, the Governments of Botswana and Namibia started discussions to bring forth a 1,500-km railway that traverses the two countries to the Port of Walvis Bay. In total, 10 years and many lengthy negotiations later, the Trans-Kalahari Railway (TKR) Project Management Office finally opened in Windhoek in April 2015. The project is expected to cost US$14.2bn and will be developed via a public-private partnership approach based on a DBOOT contractual arrangement, whereby a developer undertakes the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the project. This case illustrates the complexities of managing a multinational project. After much slower than expected progress, the viability of the project is questioned. Complexity academic level This case is intended for post-graduate business students and MBA students who are studying in a management curriculum. It is primarily written for students in a project management course but may also be used for other courses, such as a negotiation class. The case can be used with undergraduate students by modifying the case questions. Supplementary materials Teaching Notes are available for educators only. Drecki, Igor. "GeoDataHub: Building centralised repository of authoritative cartographic and geospatial resources". Abstracts of the ICA 1 (15 luglio 2019): 1. http://dx.doi.org/10.5194/ica-abs-1-66-2019.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):

Abstract. GeoDataHub (geodatahub.library.auckland.ac.nz) is an authoritative national repository of cartographic and geospatial resources curated by the University of Auckland Library for research, government, and educational communities, as well as the public of New Zealand. Its objectives are to digitise cartographic materials, provide integrated and enhanced data access, and build a unique knowledge base concerning New Zealand’s cartographic heritage. GeoDataHub showcases conceptual developments in cartography, surveying, photogrammetry, and other mapping, earth, and social science disciplines, highlighting their contribution to the development of the nation. It supports a dynamic, innovative, and leading edge historical and GIScience research, facilitating scientific discovery and knowledge building.

The repository contains digitised maps and charts published by authoritative agencies and research institutes, aerial photography provided by local authorities and all of government satellite imagery. A selection of key geospatial datasets produced by the government, Crown research institutes and local authorities augment the repository – currently over 30TB of data. The focus of GeoDataHub is on providing cartographic and geospatial resources for New Zealand, its offshore islands and territories; South Pacific, particularly Cook Islands, Niue and Tokelau; and Ross Dependency in Antarctica. Regional coverage primarily includes Auckland and Waikato, and parts of Northland, Bay of Plenty and East Cape. Local datasets cover primarily Auckland Region but a selection of datasets from other regions is also included. GeoDataHub is augmented by physical collection of maps and charts, atlases, aerial photographs, gazetteers, map indexes and catalogues, and cartographic paraphernalia, located in the Map Room of the University of Auckland Library.

This paper talks about challenges associated with the design, implementation and provision of content for GeoDataHub. Apart from building an integrated and enhanced data access application, facilitating textual, spatial and temporal search, metadata harvesting and discovery utilising GeoNetwork, a catalogue application that manages spatially referenced resources (www.geonetwork-opensource.org), the repository provides a further two ways of accessing cartographic and geospatial resources. One involves browsing the selected content of the repository, examining and downloading the material of interest; the other allows users to ‘map a drive’ and access all materials using familiar folder structure (the latter applies to the University community of users only). This approach however, occasionally requires provision of the same datasets in two different formats (compressed and uncompressed) depending how the users are accessing them. In addition, a knowledge base concerning New Zealand cartographic heritage is being implemented, providing a useful guide to authoritative mapping served by GeoDataHub. A particular challenge concerns documenting their provenance, content, extent and general characteristics in a modular fasion.

The paper concludes with presenting plans for extending GeoDataHub. This includes not only the creation of further geospatial records, provision of more content and expanding the knowledge base, but also strategic decisions concerning the selection of cartographic and geospatial resources and how to provide the best service possible to our growing user base.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract ‘I wish, Ladies and Gentleman, I could cure myself of the habit of speaking ironically,’ Max Beerbohm once teased a radio audience. ‘I should so like to express myself in a straightforward manner.’ Earlier, just as straightforwardly, he had written (in Zuleika Dobson) that ‘one is taught to refrain from irony, because mankind does tend to take it literally’. Every letters column, every writer’s mailbag, overflows with corroboration. Recently, a Bay Area columnist tried kicking at the budget cuts that are hobbling the state of California’s public library system with a burst of fulsome mock-approval. Her next column naturally consisted of apologies to all the book-lovers and librarians she had offended. ‘I was being ironic,’ she tried explaining to one. ‘If you were, I would know it,’ her caller retorted. Surely one of the most striking features of the theatre historian Isaak Glikman’s 1993 edition of Shostakovich’s letters, the first major post-Soviet contribution to the literature on the greatest of all Soviet artists, is the frequency with which the editor (one of the composer’s closest friends) intervenes to explain that Shostakovich, you see, was making a joke.
