Abstract (sommario):

Recent research challenges the interpretation of Walther's political Sprüchen as admonishing or rebuking verses directed at Philip of Swabia. Examination of the first two Sprüche of the second Philipps-Ton, the 'Alexander admonition' (L 16,36) and the 'spit roast' Spruch (L 17,11), shows Walther's intent to offer current political advice. The thematic context affords new insights into Wolfram's Walther quotations in 'Willehalm'. Jüngste Forschungsergebnisse stellen die Interpretation von Walthers politischen Sprüchen an Philipp von Schwaben als "Mahn- oder Scheltestrophen" in Frage. Die Untersuchung der beiden ersten Sprüche des Zweiten Philippstons, die sog. Alexandermahnung (L 16,36) und der sog. Spießbratenspruch (L 17,11), soll zeigen, dass Walther eine politisch aktuelle Beratung intendiert. Im thematischen Kontext ergeben sich auch neue Einsichten zu Wolframs Walther-Zitat im 'Willehalm'.

Abstract (sommario):

Most critics have seen the remarks of Walther von der Vogelweide on the death of his colleague Reinmar as an expression of a private quarrel between both singers. The contrast between the obituary's emphatic praise of Reinmar's singing on the one hand and apparent personal disparagement on the other is usually regarded either as a result of interpersonal conflicts or, alternatively, as a rhetorical means to even intensify the praise of Reinmar's art. This article wants to demonstrate that the assumption of a personal struggle between Walther and Reinmar is based on a biographistic circular argument. A reading that refrains from biographical assumptions proves the obituary's supposed personal aspect to be mere speculation. Instead, a purely text-centered reading points out the text's poetological and auto-reflexive functions. In der Forschung sind die Aussagen Walthers von der Vogelweide zum Tod seines Sängerkollegen Reinmar zumeist als Ausdruck tiefgreifender persönlicher Differenzen zwischen beiden Sängern verstanden worden. Der Kontrast zwischen ausdrücklichem Lob der Sangeskunst einerseits und scheinbarer persönlicher Abwertung andererseits wurde entweder als Nachwirkung persönlicher Konflikte interpretiert oder aber als rhetorisches Mittel Walthers, das Lob der Kunst Reinmars noch zu verstärken. Die vorliegende Untersuchung zeigt auf, dass der Nachruf nur dann als Beleg für eine nicht-literarische, persönliche Dimension der Auseinandersetzung Walthers mit Reinmar aufgeführt werden kann, wenn man mittlerweile widerlegte oder fragwürdige außerliterarische Axiome an den Text heranträgt und einen biographistischen Zirkelschluss zur Basis der Lektüre macht. Eine Lesart hingegen, die auf jegliche biographische Präsuppositionen verzichtet, erweist den vermeintlichen privaten Aspekt des Nachrufs als spekulativ und verdeutlicht stattdessen die poetologischen und autoreflexiven Funktionen des Textes.

In seiner Aachener Dissertation, abgeschlossen im WS 2017/18 unter der Leitung seines Doktorvaters Thomas Bein, beschäftigt sich Rainer Nübel mit einigen der wichtigsten Reichstöne Walthers von der Vogelweide, indem er die globale Perspektive, die hinter den poetischen Aussagen zu vernehmen ist, anhand von vielen spezifischen Beispielen analysiert. Mit Gradualismus ist eigentlich die umfassende Weltsicht Walthers gemeint, der in seinen politischen Sprüchen stark darauf drängt, dass das Individuum sich selbst im Kontext des göttlichen ordo wahrnimmt und dass die politische Struktur genau dieses hierarchische Ordnungsschema spiegeln müsste. Die Kritik an einzelnen Päpsten (z.B. Innozenz III.) oder Kaisern (z.B. Otto IV.) kommt bei Walther unumwunden zum Ausdruck, was Nübel nun durch eine sorgfältige Textanalyse mit Ausblick auf den historischen Hintergrund zum Ausdruck bringt.

Prezentowany dokument, sporządzony na polecenie namiestnika Rzeszy Arthura Greisera przez landrata kolskiego Walthera Bechta we wrześniu 1941 r., nie był do tej pory publikowany. Report of landrat Walther Becht from Koło – unknown document for history of county Koło from the time of World War II Reports and descriptions of places or territorial administration units prepared by German officials are a valuable source to learn about the history of Polish lands incorporated into the Third Reich and the fate of their inhabitants. Presented document, drawn up on the order of the Reichstatthalter Arthur Greiser by the landrat of Koło district Walther Becht in September 1941, has not been published so far.

The following paper provides a desideratum of research about Walthers 'Preislied', which is, as is well-known, related to the genesis of the German national anthem. Although the three versions in the medieval song manuscripts A, C and E, compiled between ca. 1270 and 1350, have already been compared with each other in more detail by research since the 1990s, there are still unanswered questions which need a new analysis based on more recent findings. Therefore, the focus is on the meaning and the semantic relations of such crucial lexemes used ideosyncratically by Walther as tiu(t)sch, vrowe(n) and wîp. The paper examines the changes of these relations in the three versions, which vary in stanza number, order and text. At the same time, it asks to what extent the different versions might thereby have encouraged modern interpretations that read the 'Preislied' as a praise of Germany and its women and men without making further semantic distinctions. However, central is the medieval song and not its modern reception. Der folgende Aufsatz löst ein Forschungsdesiderat über Walthers 'Preislied' ein, mit dem bekanntlich die Entstehung der deutschen Nationalhymne verbunden ist. Obwohl die drei Fassungen in den mittelalterlichen Liederhandschriften A, C und E, die zwischen 1270 und 1350 angelegt wurden, durch die Forschung seit den 1990ern bereits genauer miteinander verglichen worden sind, bleiben offene Fragen, die eine neue Analyse auf der Grundlage jüngerer Forschungen erforderlich machen. Der Fokus des Aufsatzes liegt auf der Bedeutung und den semantischen Relationen so zentraler von Walther in eigenständiger Weise verwendeter Lexeme wie tiu(t)sch, vrowe(n) und wîp. Der Aufsatz untersucht die Veränderungen dieser Relationen in den drei Fassungen, die in Strophenbestand, Strophenabfolge und Text variieren. Gleichzeitig fragt er, inwieweit die verschiedenen Fassungen dadurch in einer mehr oder weniger ausgeprägten Weise modernen Interpretationen Vorschub leisten konnten, die das 'Preislied' als ein Lob auf Deutschland und seine Frauen und Männer gelesen haben, ohne nähere semantische Differenzierungen zu treffen. Im Zentrum steht allerdings das mittelalterliche Lied und nicht seine neuzeitliche Rezeption.

Zusammenfassung In der »Nachkriegszeit« (1948) entstand auf Anregung des jungen Hans-Joachim Kraus die Initiative für einen neuen Kommentar zum Alten Testament, der gründliche exegetische Arbeit und theologische Auslegung vereinigen sollte. Hans Walter Wolff, Martin Noth, Gerhard von Rad und Walther Zimmerli wurden für den Gründerkreis gewonnen. Gemeinsam stellten sie das hinter dem Kommentar stehende Konzept 1952 in der »Evangelischen Theologie« vor. Es findet auch in der Gliederung jedes Kommentarabschnitts in »Text - Ort - Zeit - Wort - Ziel« seinen Ausdruck, zeigt aber im Übrigen eine große theologische Vielfalt, die in diesem Beitrag näher entfaltet wird. Seither hat der Kommentar eine bewegte Geschichte durchlaufen und hat sich zu einem unentbehrlichen exegetischen und theologischen Arbeitsinstrument entwickelt. Inzwischen findet man unter den Mitarbeitern schon die dritte Generation.

This article presents an experimental reconstruction of a failure of the Walther P99 pistol, involving the tearing of a fragment of the breech face and ejecting weapon elements in the shooter’s eye direction. The tests were carried out with the use of a high-speed camera and the software for analysis of video recording. As a result of this experiment, the velocities and energy values of the elements tested were obtained.

ZusammenfassungDryophyllum Debey ex Saporta wird neu typisiert und als Formgattung für auf Blätter begründete fossile Fagaceen ähnliche Sippen reserviert (Dryophyllum pseudofurcinerve Rüffle et al., D. altenburgense Walther, D, diversinervium Rüffle et al.) Nach weiblichen Infloreszenzen, Kupulen, Früchten und Blattresten wird nach der gemeinsamen epidermalen Struktur die Gattung Eoirigonobalanus Walther & Kvaček gen. nov. aufgestellt (E. andreanszkyi (Mai) Kvaček & Walther comb. nov., E. furcinervis (Rossmässler) Walther & Kvaček comb. nov.). Die Gattung wird von zahlreichen Fundorten Mitteleuropas nachgewiesen. Unterschiede in der Blattmorphologie und Trichomausbildung werden durch die formae E. furcinervis f. haselbachensis (Kvaček & Walther) comb. nov., E. furcinervis f. lyellii (Heer) comb. nov. berücksichtigt. Eotrigonobalanus gen. nov. stellt eine ursprüngliche Fagacee dar, bei der Merkmale von Trigonobalanus Forman, Castanopsis Spach und Lithocarpus Blume kombiniert auftreten. Eotrigonobalanus kommt im subtropischen Lauraceen‐Fagaceen‐Wald vor, ist ein Akzessorium der Mixed‐Mesophytic‐Forests und ist an der Zusammensetzung kohlenbildenden Bruch‐ und Moorwälder gemeinsam mit der Taxodiacee Athroiaxis couttsiae (Heer) Gardner beteiligt.

Abstract From the Francofurtana to the Collection of Gilbert: A highlighting method of compilation. The manuscript Paris B.N. 3922A has long been known, in particular after Walther Holtzmann’s works. This manuscript with its several successive supplements to the collection Francofortana presents an interesting example of the working methods of Norman collectors during Walter of Coutances’s archiepiscopacy (1185-1207). This study concerns the copy (f° 211ra-227va) of the Compilatio prima, whose connections with the Francofurtana and its Supplementum were recorded by the compilator himself. He reproduced only those items completely which had not appeared in this manuscript neither in those texts. This peculiarity allows us to see in what manner the Norman compilator proceeded. Another interest is in the additional decretals extracted from the collection compiled by Gilbert. Their number, the following selective copy of this collection (f° 227vb-234vb) and the compilator’s method led us to seek for his connections with the Francofurtana and its Supplementum. The result of the search is presented in detailed analysis of the copy of the Compilatio prima [I Collectio Rotomagensis secunda]. It helps to understand better the tenor of the subsequent Collectio Gilberti [II Collectio Gilberti R].

From 8-12 August 1914, the British Association for the Advancement of Science, meeting in Australia, descended on Adelaide. The meeting included delegates from a dozen overseas countries, including many from the United Kingdom. Amongst the visiting geologists were Arthur Philemon Coleman (1852-1939) and William Morris Davis (1850-1934), Rollin Thomas Chamberlin (1881-1948) and John Walter Gregory (1864-1932), Albrecht Penck (1858-1945) and Johannes Walther (1860-1937), Alexander du Toit (1878-1948) and Hartley Travers Ferrar (1879-1932), George William Lamplugh (1859-1926) and Sydney Hugh Reynolds (1867-1949), as well as the home-based T. W. Edgeworth David (1858-1934) and Ernest Willington Skeats (1875-1953). The proceedings created immense public interest and brought science to the people in a way never before achieved in Australia. That the meeting proceeded at all is a tribute to the Australian Government, the Association, and the conference organisers, as well as the participants, for the First World War had been declared only a few days before the meeting. The interactions between the home population and the delegates, and between delegates, provide an enlightening commentary on the values and standards of our world almost a century ago.

Abstract Nineteenth-century Lutheran giants C.F.W. Walther and Søren Kierkegaard both stressed over the application of Martin Luther’s doctrine of Law and Gospel. Both viewed Law and Gospel as concepts to be distinguished and as concepts that dialectically belong together. To his Pelagian audience tempted to abuse the Law and abolish the Gospel, Walther stressed the distinction of Law and Gospel. To his Antinomian audience tempted to abuse the Gospel and abolish the Law, Kierkegaard stressed the dialectic of Law and Gospel. Walther and Kierkegaard’s contrasting Law and Gospel emphases are clearly seen in their contrasting accounts of the Rich Young Ruler in the Synoptic Gospels.

Abstract (sommario):

The aim of this article is to warn against the possible injury hazard for the shooter, resulting from the wear of the components of weapon during dry firing. The analyzed case presents the damages to a gun caused by multiple dry firing, i.e. without a cartridge in the chamber. As a consequence of the shots, the breech face of the pistol was damaged. Therefore, it should be considered to categorically ban dry firing with WALTHER P99 pistol.

Role of inflammation-induced oxidative stress in the pathogenesis and progression of chronic inflammatory airways diseases has received increasing attention in recent years. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 is the primary transcription factor that regulates the expression of antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes.Graptopetalum paraguayenseE. Walther, a vegetable consumed in Taiwan, has been used in folk medicine for protection against liver injury through elevating antioxidation. Recently, we found that gallic acid is an active compound ofGraptopetalum paraguayenseE. Walther, which has been reported to inhibit T-helper 2 cytokines. Currently, we assumed thatGraptopetalum paraguayenseE. Walther may potentially protect against ovalbumin-induced allergy and airway inflammation. Results demonstrated thatGraptopetalum paraguayenseE. Walther ethanolic extracts (GPE) clearly inhibited airway inflammation, mucus cell hyperplasia, and eosinophilia in OVA-challenged mice. Additionally, GPE also prevented T-cell infiltration and Th2 cytokines, including interleukin- (IL-)4, IL-5, and IL-13 generations in bronchial alveolar lavage fluid. The adhesion molecules ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 were substantially reduced by GPE treatment mediated by Nrf2 activation. Moreover, GPE attenuated GATA3 expression and inhibited Th2 signals of the T cells. These findings suggested that GPE ameliorated the development of airway inflammation through immune regulation.

As practice in folk medicine, Graptopetalum paraguayense E. Walther possesses several biological/pharmacological activities including hepatoprotective, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory. We investigated the neuroprotective potential of Graptopetalum paraguayense E. Walther leaf extracts on inflammation-mediated ischemic brain injury. Water (GWE), 50% alcohol (GE50) extracts of Graptopetalum paraguayense E. Walther, and extracts obtained from further extraction of GE50 with ethyl acetate (GEE) were used. Oral administration of GEE, but not GWE or GE50, for 2 weeks protected animals against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion brain injury. The neuroprotective effect of GEE was accompanied by reductions in brain infarction, neurological deficits, caspase-3 activity, malondialdehyde content, microglia activation, and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression. Since microglia-mediated inflammation plays critical roles in ischemic brain injury, anti-inflammatory potential of Graptopetalum paraguayense E. Walther leaf extracts was further investigated on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/interferon-γ (IFN-γ-activated BV-2 microglial cells. GEE decreased H2O2 - and LPS/IFN-γ-induced free radical generation and LPS/IFN-γ-induced iNOS expression. Mechanistic study revealed that the neuroactive effects of GEE were markedly associated with anti-oxidative potential, activation of serine/threonine and tyrosine phosphatases, and down-regulation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, p38, Akt, Src, Janus kinase-1, Tyk2, signal transducer and activator of transcription-1, and NF-κB and might be attributed to the presence of polyphenolic compounds such as gallic acid, genistin, daidzin, and quercetin. Together, our findings point out its potential therapeutic strategies that target microglia activation, oxidative stress, and iNOS expression to reduce ischemic brain injury and suggest that Graptopetalum paraguayense E. Walther leaf extracts represent a valuable source for the development of neuroprotective agents.

Zum ersten Mal wird hier eine vollständige Sammlung der stabreimenden Wortpaare im Werk des Minnesängers Walthers von der Vogelweide vorgelegt. Damit verbunden ist die kontextuelle Analyse auf dem Hintergrund vorher belegter Beispiele aus dem Alt- und Mittelhochdeutschen, jeweils unter Berücksichtigung der umfangreichen Sekundärliteratur und geläufigen Nachschlagewerke. Mit diesem Verzeichnis und die Analyse der Wortpaarstellen ist die Geschichte der stabreimenden Wortpaare in der deutschen Sprach- und Literaturgeschichte, insbesondere der klassischen mittelhochdeutschen Epoche, um ein wichtiges Stück vorangetrieben. Diese Studie vervollständigt die Sammlung stabreimender Wortpaare in den klassischen mittelhochdeutschen Texten. Die Arbeit versteht sich als Teil der historischen Phraseologieforschung und damit der Tradition der historischen Rhetorik des Deutschen. Sie ergänzt vorliegende Funde zu den stabreimenden Wortpaaren vor allem im Alt- und Frühmittelhochdeutschen. Zudem leistet sie Einsichten in die reichhaltige rhetorische Praxis Walthers von der Vogelweide und des Minnesangs überhaupt.

Walther Fol (1832-1890) est l’un des plus importants mécènes des musées genevois au XIXe siècle. En 1864-1865, il entreprend un voyage en Égypte et remonte le Nil jusqu’à Assouan, en compagnie du peintre lorrain Hector Leroux (1829-1900) et d’un « homme de lettres » genevois nommé Louis Steiner (1820-1869). L’article propose une présentation et une analyse du journal tenu par Fol lors de son périple égyptien, ainsi qu’une présentation rapide des objets pharaoniques offerts par lui à la Ville de Genève. Un appendice retrace la biographie de Louis Steiner, l’un de ses compagnons de voyages.
