Abstract (sommario):
Working mothers who just had their first child face major changes in aspects of their life. Workingmothers have two roles that must be fulfilled in their daily life, being a mother and a worker. Thedemands of these roles often create pressures that cause conflict within the mother herself.Conflicts that occur within herself are called intrapersonal conflicts. This study aims to overviewintrapersonal conflicts and perceived social support in mothers who return to work after havingtheir first child. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with semi-structuredinterview methods involving two participants who work professionally and have their first childaged 0-18 months. The results of this study indicate that there is an intrapersonal conflict in theroles of mother and worker. The type of conflict that arose in the two participants was the type ofmultiple/double approach-avoidance conflict in which the two alternative choices, working andcaring for children, both had negative and positive values for the participants. Both participantsstated that the existence of social support from people around them, can help participants dealwith intrapersonal conflicts when they have to work leaving their children.

Abstract (sommario):
This study focuses on watershed management in Northern Thailand, where conflict over forest, land and water-use is a prevailing problem. A characteristic of watershed conflicts is that they are often multifaceted and involve multiple stakeholders with different interests and values, consequently requiring conflict management approaches that are sustainable in their outcomes, including addressing the underlying causes of the conflicts. Drawing from a case study in Mae Tia Mae Tae watershed in Northern Thailand, this study explores how mediation by external third party can contribute to the transformation of conflicts in the watershed and how the broader institutional contexts in which the conflict is embedded shapes the mediation outcomes. The study suggests that co-creation of mutual understanding and recognition of each party’s socio-cultural differences, including land-use practices, are critical in building trust and in how conflict transformation processes moved forward. Moreover, the ability of the mediator in facilitating the establishment of a deliberative institution (i.e. a watershed network committee) and agreed rules on forest utilization were also critical in maintaining long-term collaboration in the watershed and potentially preventing other conflicts arising in the future. Some issues, however, may threaten the continuity of the cooperation and sustainability of peace in the watershed, including the lack of structural reform that formally recognizes local people’s rights, insecure land tenure, and the absence of legal recognition for the watershed network committee as a legitimate mechanism for watershed decision making. The paper discusses these findings by comparing it with those from our previous studies in other locations (Cambodia, Indonesia and Western Thailand) to strengthen the insights from Northern Thailand. Finally, the research puts forward some recommendations for reforms and to strengthen the use of effective mediation, to achieve transformative outcomes, in conflicts of this nature. iation, to achieve transformative outcomes, in conflicts of this nature.

Abstract (sommario):
Conflicts among competing resource users have become more frequent in the Southeast. Political and legal processes and economic values will play major roles in negotiations to resolve competing resource uses. Resource economists can contribute to resource conflict resolution in several ways, such as facilitating negotiation, asserting importance of institutional mechanisms, analyzing incentives, and evaluating resources.

Abstract (sommario):
Conflicts of interest and conflicts of values stand between university-based research and commercialization of that knowledge. Such conflicts are embedded in science faculties and serve to delay, rechannel, or deter the commercial applications of research. Scales measuring these conflicts are developed and presented and the Impact on entrepreneurial behavior and university roles is noted. A comparison between science and management faculty illustrates the differences in values and orientations that reside within the university institution.

Abstract (sommario):
The term “care” in pastoral care means caring for others. Yet those who care for others in pastoral conversations can also be defined existentially as people who care about the world, that is, people who hold values. This article explores how caring for and caring about commence in pastoral practice, with special attention paid to conflicts of values in pastoral conversations. The article proposes a typology of subjects for value conflicts in pastoral care, and it proposes a set of strategies for navigating those conflicts. We base both proposals on an analysis of German and Norwegian verbatims, i.e., protocols of pastoral caregivers’ memories of pastoral care encounters. These verbatims highlight that while pastoral caregivers and care seekers have different roles and obligations in pastoral care, an existential encounter occurs which has its own potentials and pitfalls. Thereby, we draw attention to the necessary negotiations of values that transpire in pastoral conversations in postsecular societies.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose Service employees are frequently exposed to moral dilemmas as a result of their boundary role, attending to the interests of both the organization and customers. The purpose of this paper is to explore organizational and personal values that generate moral dilemmas in the service context, as well as emotions related to employees’ moral decisions. Design/methodology/approach Using the critical incidents technique, data were collected from service providers about moral dilemmas in the workplace. The data were analyzed independently by each author, with an agreement rate of 84-88 percent. Findings The results show that service employees confront dilemmas as a result of conflicts between the following organizational and personal values: standardization vs personalization; profit vs integrity; and emotional display rules vs dignity. Moral decision making involves emotions generated by customer distress, negative emotions toward customers, and emotions of guilt, shame, or fear. Originality/value Little research has studied moral conflicts in service encounters from employees’ perspective. Using a qualitative approach, this study explores the role of personal values and moral emotions in such processes.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper discusses the phenomenological approach in the context of conflict resolution. Phenomenology transforms the traditional view of conflict by delving into a profound understanding of its roots, values, emotions, and the perspectives of individuals involved. In this approach, conflict is seen as a social phenomenon involving individual or group awareness, empathy, sympathy, and collective consciousness. The importance of understanding subjective meanings and individual experiences in conflict is emphasized as the key to effective conflict resolution. The conflict resolution process from a phenomenological perspective involves steps of identification, diagnosis, and treatment designed to uncover and comprehend the conflict's roots comprehensively. The role of the subjects in this process is crucial, as they must possess the ability to empathize, see from various perspectives, and facilitate effective communication. In conflict resolution methods based on the phenomenological approach, reduction also becomes a key element, involving efforts to cleanse understanding from biases and assumptions before taking action. Introspection is also vital, helping subjects become more aware of their roles and contributions in the conflict. The phenomenological approach enables us to resolve conflicts in a more profound, holistic, and sustainable manner. With a deeper understanding of conflict's roots and the emotions involved, we can develop more effective solutions and integrate various perspectives contributing to the conflict.

Abstract (sommario):
Webtoon is a popular digital-comic media. For this thesis, I will analyze a thriller Webtoon Bastard because it has a great theme, plot, drawing style, and good reviews. The story focuses on the conflicts between a father (Dongsoo Seon), who is also a murderer, and his son (Jin Seon), which inspires me to take the failure in a father-and-son’s relationship as my topic. Therefore, I want to explore what factors trigger father-and-son’s conflicts and how those factors lead to the failure in the father-and-son’s relationship. I apply the theory of father-and-son’s conflict. I want to show Dongsoo’s and Jin’s different ways of thinking on concepts of happiness and love, parental roles, and parental authority create conflicts because of no emotional bond and agreement related to familism values, discrepancy between expectations and reality, and no room for adolescent’s independence. In conclusion, the complexity in this relationship can attract Webtoon’s readers. Keywords: father and son, single parent, adolescent, conflicts in the family, webtoon

Abstract (sommario):
Recently, the 1999 Nigerian constitution has been unavoidably silent on specific roles for traditional rulers in the country. Thus, traditional institutions play a crucial part in policy development and implementation in the country. Consequently, the lack of constitutional roles for traditional institutions severely limited their utility at the grassroots. The study assesses the roles of the traditional administrative system of selected communities in Osun State towards the integration of traditional core values into mainstream administration in Nigeria and also assesses the relevance of traditional institutions in managing inherent conflicts of the selected communities in Osun State. The study engaged qualitative research through key informant interviews and in-depth interviews. The findings showed that traditional institutions in Nigeria play active roles in the development process in the country. Despite their difficulty, the roles were more visible in cultural dissemination and managing conflicts in the local communities. The study concluded that the traditional administrative system and structure had influenced community development in the southwest region immensely but are limited in function and operation largely by the absence of roles in the Nigeria constitution.

Abstract (sommario):
This article takes its stand in an international discussion about how NPM reforms affect public servants’ notions about core public values. More specifically, it analyses how school leaders relate to the values of political control, rule of law, economic efficiency, professionalism and users’ influence. It raises the question whether it matters, in terms of how they embrace these values, their organisation is public or private. 975 school leaders (481 working for public schools and 472 for private schools) have completed a written questionnaire containing 15 postulations linked to the five core values. The study’s main finding is that the differences between the two categories of school leaders are quite small although differences exist. The similarities could reflect a development in recent decades where private schools have undergone politicisation and public schools companyisation. The study indicates that school leaders on both sides try to defend all values simultaneously, in some way. Furthermore, when trying to handle value conflicts they seem to avail themselves of other strategies than those connected to dominating models of rationality, which often conceptualise public actors’ response to value conflicts as a matter of balancing or striking trade-offs.

Abstract (sommario):
ABSTRACTCommunicating effectively with people from different cultures in the workplace is very challenging. Barriers to intercultural communication can occur, such as anxiety, roles and norms, beliefs and values, stereotypes and ethnocentrism. These barriers can cause internal conflict within a group of organizations or companies that have employees with different cultures. Internal conflicts that occur will also prevent the organization to achieve its goals. The current issue is how the management of intercultural communication conflicts occurs in international organizations. The purpose of this study is to describe the experience of employees of international organizations in the management of intercultural communication conflicts by knowing the negotiation of employee identity, knowing the types and forms of conflict experienced by employees of international organizations and knowing the form of face management in inter-cultural communication conflict management at employees of international organizations. The subject of this research are international organization employees from India, UK, Indonesia and China. Theory used in this study are Identity Negotiation Theory, Face Negotiation Theory, Effective Intercultural Workgroup in Communication Theory and Thomas and Killman’s Conflict Management Model. The results showed that the negotiation of identity between collectivist and individualist cultures that occurred begins with the interaction between cultures in the form of communication behavior, language, personal character and response from other employees. Differences in ways of thinking and view are the main causes of conflict between individualist and collectivist cultures. Face owned by each culture influences other differences such as how individuals perceive themselves in conflict, self-priority in conflict, and the conflict management style used. Intercultural conflict management that occurs requires a third party as a mediator. Keywords : Intercultural Communication, Conflict Management, International Organization

Abstract (sommario):
Roles that are ambiguous, do not have clear specifications and functions, along with role conflicts that often clash, researchers believe will increase employee creativity because employees must improve from the problems/conflicts they have so that their performance is good, the company's performance is good, and they can be trusted in many tasks / targets that a company has. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of Role Ambiguity on Employee Creativity with Role Conflict as a moderating variable. This research is a quantitative research, with an explanatory approach which researchers obtained from collecting questionnaires from Pegadaian insurance employees spread throughout Indonesia with the criteria of having worked for at least 1 year. This data can also be called primary data. The data was analyzed using the smart PLS 4.0 analysis tool. The results show the Role Ambiguity variable can have a positive relationship and a significant influence on Employee Creativity because the -Values value is positive and is below the 0.05 significance level, namely 0.024. Apart from that show that the Role Conflict variable can moderate the relationship between Role Ambiguity and Employee Creativity because the P-Values value is positive and has a value below the significance level of 0.05, namely 0.000, which is smaller than the direct test of 0.024. In this way, the two research hypotheses above can be accepted and proven comprehensively and scientifically.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Indonesia is an archipelago consisting of small and large islands stretching from Sabang to Merauke. The diversity of islands, religion, ethnicity, language, culture, and customs is a form of the socio-cultural systems that scattered throughout the islands of Indonesia. The differences among religions, tribes, and others sometimes create social conflicts among the citizens. However, the existence of Pancasila and the Constitution of 1945 are the National principle with the slogan “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” which means that it is different, but it is still one. In addition, it is a state doctrine containing legal rules, norms, and values that set life’s journey of Indonesian nation in the future. This slogan will be a tool to embed, bind, and unite the integrity of citizens. In addition, it can decrease the occurrence of social conflict. When there is dialectics, the social conflict which occurs in society and congregation, Tiga Batu Tungku as a local wisdom has a role of binding the unity of congregation at Kamarian village in Seram Island, Maluku Province. This local wisdom contains values, norms, religion, socio-culture, and customs which serve as social cohesion in reducing conflict. Values and norms are signs and rules to control human action and behavior in interacting with others. In this case, Tiga Batu Tungku has always played a role and function for a peaceful solution through dialogue to discuss and solve various social problems in society and internal part of Tiga Batu Tungku.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The increasing policy interest in valuing water raises questions about practical roles or applications. Is valuing water intended, for example, to inform public policy and businesses, guide resource allocation, support a multi-stakeholder process, manage conflicts of interest, or to inform realistic pricing systems and support investment decisions? Decisions affecting water often fail, however, to consider ecosystem needs and social objectives and impacts in other geographical areas. This paper reflects on the essence of valuing water in practice. The paper concludes that in practice, valuing water is indeed useful in decision-making, not solely in the sense of it contributing to the value determination (as values are typically disputed, partial, incommensurable and imperfect), but more in offering a structured and transparent mechanism that supports an inclusive stakeholder water resources management process. Water valuation can play a key role in making explicit the trade-offs intrinsic to decision-making and priority setting, especially when it concerns societal needs such as food security and stability, which are not revealed in the marketplace. As such, valuing water may be a key tool in water diplomacy, whereby its value lies not so much in its numerical assessment as in the process it offers to engage stakeholders across different perspectives and interests in water use.

Abstract (sommario):
This research highlights the efficacy of community-based language planning initiatives in ethnic conflict and violence prevention. As a threshold which elucidates how linguistic measures can help to prevent inter-ethnic violence, the research illustrates that where ethnic safeguarding reaches the extremity of violence, language issues are found to have covert but very strong causal roles as manifested in the ethnic violent conflicts affecting Nigeria’s Middle-Belt including the Berom/Afizere/Anaguta versus Hausa/Fulani; Taroh versus Hausa/Fulani (Plateau State); Tiv versus Etulo (Benue State); Tiv versus Jukun (Benue and Taraba States); and Jukun versus Kuteb (Taraba State). Paired t-test values set at a confidence interval of 95 per cent indicate that the statistical mean differences (1.60 in Tiv/Jukun and 9.60 in the Jos area) are close to the true difference occurrences in the randomly sampled populations. More significant are the two tailed P values of 0.5895 (Tiv/Jukun) showing low bilingualism; and 0.3477 (Jos area) depicting more acute bilingualism decline associated with the ethnic violence. The research then considers the application of linguistic measures vital to prevent ethnic violence. In particular, critiqued aspects of the Expanded Graded Intergenerational Disruption Scales (EGIDS) are recommended to ethnic communities, voluntary organisations and governments for implementation in dealing with violent conflicts.

Abstract (sommario):
GPs serve in a double role of treatment provider and expert in certain social insurance systems, such as the Norwegian one. Some physicians assert that the ethical obligations of the two roles conflict with each other. The objective of this article is to show that social insurance medical ethics (SIME), which are based on recognised principles of medical ethics, unite the physicians’ obligations associated with these roles. The method applied is a medical ethics conceptual analysis. The material consists of literature on normative SIME. The study shows that SIME expands the role of the treatment provider to a wider societal context. Here, physicians should attempt to balance the perspectives of sympathy with empathy, as treatment providers, with the impartiality in their role as experts. Five principles of medical ethics are fundamental. Respect for human dignity is the overarching principle of medical ethics. The four others are nonmaleficence, beneficence (including soft paternalism), autonomy, and social justice. The article discusses two areas where it is asserted that the roles of treatment provider and expert conflict with each other: the application of beneficence and justice, and the duty of confidentiality versus the duty to provide information to the National Insurance service. The study concludes that there are no basic ethical conflicts between the two roles. The ethical problems that may arise when exercising this duality should be viewed in the same way as other ethical problems in medicine. Actual application and balancing of the principles may necessitate negotiations between patients and physicians. Abstract (sommario):
Researchers on linguistic and discourse related to palm oil conflicts and problems are very scarce internationally. Some researchers are mostly not exposed massively to the public, therefore the people are not fully aware of palm oil linguistic cases. The politics of palm oil conflicts in Indonesia involves anti-language, the war on discourse, and agrolinguistic cases. The problem is this politics seems to be oriented to exploit the problems, not to solve them. Manipulation becomes one of the major factors of the prolonged palm oil conflicts in Indonesia. The aspects of language and discourse play significant roles due to its functions as the medium of exploration on palm oil plantations. It can be said that language is one of the core ingredients to create and to solve management of regional conflicts of palm oil. Thus, e135 paradigm, agrolinguistics, and forensic linguistics can be applied eclectically to analyze on the objects like anti-language, the war on discourse, conflicts of palm oil, and palm oil regulations and acts as well in order to suggest some regulations in solving and preventing severe conflict and its potential. The aspects of political meaning, culture, and values are also studied in this paper. Thus, e135 paradigm based on multidisciplinary linguistic analysis at the strategic level, agrolinguistics and forensic linguistics is applied. A qualitative approach was applied. In collecting the data, some instruments such as existing documents and existing records were used. This paper was based on Hibah Berbasis Kompetensi (Competency-based Research) in 2016 funded by Ministry of Research and Technology of Indonesia.

Abstract (sommario):
Because gender roles are rapidly changing, a more dynamic conceptualization of role is especially needed. Working toward this end, we build on the contributions of scholars such as Merton and Barber (1963), Rossi (1972), Bardwick and Douvan (1971), Komarovsky (1973a, 1973b), and Room (1976); develop two pivotal concepts, social psychological ambivalence and developmental alienation; and interpret current findings on the changing roles of women. Conflicts contemporary women may face because they are attracted to opposing values also are explored. One challenge for future researchers will be to clarify the situational factors that link ambivalence on the individual (i.e., psychological) level to structural or sociological ambivalence and to collective social action.

Abstract (sommario):
We examined premarital counseling services offered by Christian and Muslim lay counselors in Ghana. Participants including clergy, Islamic clerics, and laity practicing in four urban centers were interviewed. Thematic analysis showed that common issues covered include medical screening, beliefs and values, expectations, partner knowledge, roles and duties, sex, parenthood, financial management, communication, and conflicts. The findings offer important insight into religious premarital counseling in Ghana and contribute to the global literature on premarital counseling.

Abstract (sommario):
Background In Japanese medical practice, older stroke survivors are overwhelmed with information regarding their discharge locations, creating more decision-making challenges. A randomized controlled trial evaluated the influence of decision aids (DAs) for matching older stroke patients and their families’ values concerning decisional conflict and participation in discharge destination decisions. Methods Participants were randomly allocated to intervention and control groups. The intervention spanned two months, from admission to discharge, at which times participants were surveyed. DAs were provided to the intervention group, and brochures to the control group. The primary endpoint was decisional conflict, assessed using the Decisional Conflict Scale (DCS). The secondary endpoint decision-making participation was assessed using the Control Preference Scale (CPS) decision-making roles and a 10-point Visual Analog Scale for participation rate. An independent t-test analyzed decisional conflict scores and participation rates to examine between-group differences. The chi-square independence test evaluated roles in decision-making scores. Post hoc subgroup analyses were performed. Results Ninety-nine participants (intervention group n = 51; control group n = 48) were included in the full analysis set, with a dropout rate of 38.4%. No significant group differences were found in decision-making conflict [t (99) = 0.69, p = 0.49, d = 0.14] and roles in decision-making scores [χ2 (5) = 3.65, p = 0.46]. However, a significant group difference was found in the participation rate [t (99) = 2.24, p = 0.03, d = 0.45]. DA tended to reduce uncertainty and promote participation rates, especially in participants living alone and unable to decide their discharge destination. Conclusions The use of DA with older stroke patients did not significantly decrease decisional conflicts. In addition, the participation rate in decision-making increased, but their active role did not. Further studies should be conducted to understand the methods of offering DA, their ideal durations, and identify their beneficiaries.

Abstract (sommario):
The values an individual places on various life roles may have implications for experienced work–family conflict. Using an integrative model of work–family conflict, comparisons between 314 state government employees who highly valued work and those who highly valued family (measured by centrality, priorities, and importance) revealed a variety of differences with respect to the antecedents and consequences of experienced work–family conflict. These differences suggest that the addition of life role values to the study of work–family conflict offers a unique and potentially important contribution.

Abstract (sommario):
Focusing on the contemporary conflicts and social political complexities of South Asia (specifically, India and Pakistan), this paper explores the roles and relevance of Gandhi’s and Bacha Khan’s moral education in negotiating/addressing the situated disparities. Drawing from the words and wisdom of Gandhi and Bacha Khan, this paper examines identity issues particularly in the context of (i) gender (disparities and struggles of women (and girls) in the society); (ii) age (situation and contributions of youths and elderly people in bringing about changes); (iii) class (including occupational and caste-based complexities and their negotiations); (iv) ethnicity (struggles of indigenous populations in overcoming situated adversities); (v) religion (tensions and acts of negotiating religious orthodoxies towards creating more secular society); and (vi) regional identities (roles of regional identities in fostering local development). Grounded in their philosophies and pedagogies, the paper discusses the contributions of the two visionaries and their epistemologies/ideologies in studying and/or addressing the issues of contemporary world. This scholarship seems particularly important today when dominant sociopolitical and religious institutions and their agendas often do not value (if not oppose) such moral education, which potentially affects the lives of South Asian populations at large.

Abstract (sommario):
This study explores how rural women in Büyükkarabag, a village in western Türkiye, interpret popular Turkish drama serials on national television in relation to local values and moralities surrounding gender roles, honour, family values and motherhood. Through extensive informal conversations, structured and unstructured ethnographic interviews and participant observations, the sociocultural dynamics influencing audience behaviour and attitudes were analysed. The study includes repeated in-depth interviews with 40 women villagers during summer and autumn, 2022. The findings reveal significant differences in the interpretation of Turkish serials between older and younger women, as well as generational conflicts in ideology, and tensions in understanding gender roles and honour. Older women perceive a disconnect between the urban and liberal representation of daily life in Turkish serials and local culture, while younger women view them as aspirational and fantasy-based representations, limited by economic status and class. This study provides insights into the complex relationships between media, culture and gender in rural Türkiye.

Abstract (sommario):
Nigeria is home to over 380 ethnic groups, with over 500 languages, producing great cultural diversity and plurality. The largest ethnic groups include Hausa consisting 23%, Fulani constituting 6% of the population, Yoruba 21% and Igbo 19%. Every Nigerian is legitimated constitutionally to live and engage in lawful business and relationship anywhere in the country; however, recent expansionist tendencies of Fulani to virtually every city in Southern-Nigeria, has become inimical to territorial policies, security, religious, social and economic development. Fulani sporadic migration has generated violent clashes, causing death, property loss, disregard for civility, desecration of religious institutions and cultural values. Farmlands have been forcefully taken over; and schools turned grazing fields and residences. Ethnic and religious cleavages and inter-ethnic fears and tensions currently pervade Nigeria. Such fear of ethnic politicization bedeviled Kenya, Rwanda and Burundi to mention but a few. This paper is premised on Lewis Coser’s Social Conflict theory, which is defined as a struggle over values or claims to status, power, and scarce resources, in which the aims of conflicting parties are not just to gain desired values, but also to neutralize, injure or eliminate their rivals. Theological hermeneutics, historical and qualitative approaches were employed for data collection. The Church’s role in promoting peaceful co-existence has become critically imperative.

Abstract (sommario):
With the emergence of globalization, the business models have been completely transformed. A growing number of businesses are operating globally giving rise to diverse multicultural teams. Nevertheless, cultural differences have undermined the efficiency and decision-making of the international project teams as there is more cultural diversity in the teams than ever before. Hence, it has become imperative for the organizations to take cultural diversity into consideration. Prominent cultural studies postulate that having diverse teams in the organizations can have both challenges and opportunities, yet it lacks emphasis of cultural understanding in project management. Moreover, digitization of business operations have moved organizations towards more specialized roles instead of traditional roles. Therefore, this study highlights the importance of team dynamics, their cultural backgrounds, values, and beliefs. It also emphasizes project team development to adopt increased empathetic attitude and emotional intelligence. The research has employed qualitative data retrieved from questionnaires and interviews. A project group development model is proposed aimed at avoiding conflicts arising due to lack of cultural understanding .The findings show that multicultural project groups will experience conflicts caused by cultural differences. Therefore, cultural understanding is vital for group members before they start working together as a group. In addition, cultural training, effective communication, teambuilding exercises and well-defined project goals are important determinants in avoiding team conflicts. Furthermore, project management methodologies should also address cultural aspects of project groups in addition to technical details as present studies lack any cultural advice.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract In the African kinship system, elders have significant roles. Especially within families, roles including care and socialization are established by cultural normativity. Since socialization processes are intergenerational, older generations inculcate these norms and the values of the society in the younger generation. This makes mothers-in-law relevant in families. The roles of mothers-in-law in younger families are widely acknowledged as key in providing intergenerational training and general family support in Nigeria. However, these intergenerational roles are complex and variously interpreted and constructed to the extent that they may engender inherent conflicts across generations in Nigerian families. These differential interpretations and constructions form perspectives of how people interpret the roles of mothers-in-law. They have implications for family wellbeing, social change, and demographic ethos, yet previous studies have not sufficiently captured these nuances. Therefore, this article empirically examines the intersectionalities of Mothers-in-Law (MsIL) roles, perspectives, social constructions of roles, and existentialities in the context of Nigeria within a broader framework of family demographic change and social development. Specific objectives of this article include understanding constructions and drivers of opinions, ideas, and worldviews about mothers-in-law and examining the preferred choice of family and perceived continuities and discontinuities relative to MsIL realities among unmarried youths.

Abstract (sommario):
Clinical ethics consultation (CEC) not only interprets moral issues at the bedside and is not restricted to giving support for the “technical” handling of these moral issues, but it has to substantively address moral values, norms, and conflicts in the process of discussing cases and problems. We call this the normative dimension and use normative in the sense of embracing moral values and convictions of persons and groups, norms, and relevant professional and ethical guidelines as well as legal frameworks. The roles and activities of the consultant as a person and the quality of CEC as a process are discussed in the American Society of Bioethics and Humanities’ (ASBH) Core Competences for Healthcare Ethics Consultation.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the existing medicine in the world that receives so much criticism is traditional systems of healthcare delivery, almost to a point of extermination in some countries in the world. Although most of the issues raised to affirm the seemingly inadequate status of this system are debatable, but the effectiveness of traditional medicine has anull all those criticism if we carefully analyse the methods of health approach in TM. Part of the misconception derives from lumping Nigeria into one integrated and indivisible indigenous unit, notwithstanding differences in values, beliefs and practices among communities. Against this backdrop, this study invites a reassessment and possible integration of African traditional medicine with the introduced systems of Primary healthcare delivery. This will ensure not only a holistic approach to dealing with complex health issues among Africas, but also the continued relevance of indigenous medicine. Critical issues examined include forms and factors affecting traditional medicine, and conflicts between indigenous and introduced systems of healthcare delivery. Consequently, a framework for explaining traditional medicine in the context of Nigeria was designed through a triangulation of Rational Choice theory, Ethnomethodology and the Health Belief Model.

Abstract (sommario):
When a person identifies with a particular religion, they identify not only with the ingroup’s religious values but also with the ingroup’s evaluations towards the relevant religious outgroup. Using a theoretical notion of ethnocentrism, this study offers religiocentrism to explain how one favourably perceives their religious affiliation and unfavourably evaluates the religious outgroup. Specifically, this study is focused on the recent interreligious conflicts between Muslims and Christians in Indonesia. In carrying out the study, we employ relevant constructs to test our hypothesis that religiocentrism is indirectly related to support for interreligious violence via perceived injustice and that this relation is stronger for individuals with high collective efficacy. We perform a confirmatory factor analysis to test all the measures’ validity. In testing the hypothesis, we conduct a moderated mediation analysis to test the indirect relations between religiocentrism and support for interreligious violence via perceived injustice and to test the conditional effect of collective efficacy on the relationship. The results show that collective efficacy significantly moderates the relation between religiocentrism and support for interreligious violence. The finding contributes to the discussion of the various roles of collective efficacy in interreligious conflicts, dependent on the nature of the conflicts.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: This article outlines the levels of participation of men and women in resolving community conflicts using Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in Kapsokwony, Kenya. It highlights that ADR are currently considered participatory and inclusive processes to resolve community conflicts as they offer men and women a major stake in conflict resolution in society due to their roles and positions in society. Methodology: Findings across the globe confirm that when men and women equally participate in resolution of community conflicts there is increased likelihood of reaching an agreement and of the longevity of the agreement. This implies that for effective ADR, the participation of both men and women would be crucial. The study was based on a mixed research method whose methodology involved research survey, interview and Focus Group Discussions. In consideration of the fact that gender equality is strongly advocated for in conflict resolution, the study sought to establish the situation in Kapsokwony. The study therefore sought to assess the levels of men’s and women’s participation in ADR mechanisms in Kapsokwony. Results: The study established that power was a factor that influenced the level of participation. Consequently, the level was simply established to be that of neutral/passive to a very high participation level of women participation in ADR mechanism. However, those that were participating at high levels in ADR were few and their power was invested in the office they held. Furthermore, the study established that in the Nyumba Kumi structure, women level of participation in conflict resolution was increasing from neutral/neutral to a higher level of participation where they fully participated in leading and influencing decisions on resolution of conflicts. This can be explained because the nature of the Nyumba Kumi structure allows for everyone to be actively involved in ensuring safety and welfare of the ten households’ members. Urban Thinkers Campus (2015) confirms that women are involved in ensuring safety in urban and rural settlements mainly through the Nyumba Kumi Initiative in which they are part of the leadership committee. Unique contribution to theory, policy, and practice: Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms help in creating an environment that fosters development, peace, and social justice amongst other positive values amidst community conflicts. The United Nations (2007) Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People advocates for equal participation of men and women in the management of community conflicts. Participation of both men and women in ADR processes to resolve community conflicts in Kapsokwony Sub-county region is a field that studies have not adequately explored. This study hopes to contribute to existing literature on men’s and women’s participation in ADR for land disputes. The outcome of this study may be utilized to influence increased participation of women in ADR, within Kapsokwony Sub-county region. Additionally, the study’s findings will add to the growing body of literature pertaining to the participation of both men and women in peace building within the Kenyan context. Lastly, the findings of this study form the foundation upon which future research can be done

Abstract (sommario):
The forcible collectivisation of Ukrainian peasant farms and the Holodomor caused by it, led to radical transformations of the social structures, which manifested themselves in the destruction of the Ukrainian peasants’ social roles established over the years and the imposition of new roles that corresponded to the interests of the totalitarian state. The article aims to assess the qualitative changes in the social roles of Ukrainian peasants in 1929–1933 due to the collectivization policy and the Holodomor-genocide crime committed by the USSR totalitarian regime. This goal was achieved using historical, historical-situational, historical-psychological, historical-chronological, and normative-value methods. As a result of collectivization and the implementation of the Holodomor crime of 1932–1933 by the communist regime, Ukrainian peasants were deprived of their traditional social, socio-professional, socio-moral and family roles. The roles of the peasant-owner and craftsman were destroyed, and instead, the role of the collective farmer was imposed – in fact, a lawless state serf. Part of the lower strata of the Ukrainian peasantry acquired new social roles of the “rural bureaucracy”, becoming one of the instruments of the establishment of the collectivization policy and, in general, the establishment of the communist regime in the countryside. There were significant changes in social roles in the Ukrainian peasant family: collective farm slavery caused the man (husband) to lose the role of breadwinner and the main support of the family, it was more difficult for a collective farm woman to fulfil the traditional social role of mother, Soviet schools destroyed children’s traditional moral and spiritual values instilled in the family, imposing the dominant roles of pioneers, leninists. The destruction of social norms and values by hunger, the fear of repression, and desire to avoid persecution caused the resolution of social role conflicts in favour of the totalitarian regime. The extended stay of Ukraine as a part of the Soviet state led to the establishment of changed social roles in subsequent Ukrainian peasant generations.

Abstract (sommario):
How do power dynamics and value conflicts affect our ability to design and maintain socio-technical algorithmic processes? In this paper, we study the SIGCHI student volunteer (SV) selection process that uses a weighted semi-randomized algorithm to recruit a desired pool of volunteers. Our interviews with the community members showed that the process is complex and socio-technical; the algorithm's outputs are interpreted and adjusted by the conference organizers to reflect the community values while ensuring the selection of effective volunteers to help with organizing the conference. This provides a stage in which the power dynamics and value conflicts among the stakeholders play salient roles in determining how the process was perceived and envisioned. For instance, non-organizers of the conference found the algorithm used in the selection process to be a power-balancer that places a check on the organizers who oversee the process. However, even with a participatory process to elicit the algorithm's weights, the power dynamics and value conflicts between the participants made it difficult to reach a consensus on what the SV selection process should consider and prioritize. Our findings highlight the importance of value transparency -- the type of transparency that focuses on explaining why a decision was made rather than how it was made -- as a mechanism for resolving such conflicts. Based on our findings, we lay out design recommendations that can guide communities to better design and maintain algorithmic socio-technical processes over time in the face of power dynamics and value conflicts.

Abstract (sommario):
It is widely accepted that employing armed forces will successfully accomplish the objective of maintaining peace. However, these solutions are not always effective in bringing lasting peace. In order for peace to become deeply ingrained in societal lives, it is frequently necessary to look deeply into the social and moral foundations of a society. This particular study was designed to investigate the functions and applicability of conventional moral values and practices in upholding peace. Specifically, the paper was intended to study the practical and potential benefits of Sidaama moral ideals and principles for maintaining peace focusing on Halaale principle. To achieve this objective several key informants were interviewed as primary data sources besides a compressive literature review on the matters of peace maintenance, conflict resolution, ethics and moral principles and practices of Sidaama people. Accordingly, the analysis was made on the data collected from the informants and contents of the references. Finally, it was found that “Halaale” principle of Sidaama People has both a preventative role in conflicts and maintaining harmony by binding the members of the community to the communitarian good. Based on this, it was recommended that, the diligent attention should be paid both at policy and society levels to make use of the fruits of traditional moral principles rather than lessening them as obsolescent practices.

Abstract (sommario):
This research addresses the escalating phenomenon of working mothers in Indonesia, particularly in Cipatujah Village, Tasikmalaya Regency. With nearly 30 percent of married women engaged in employment, the study focuses on the work-family conflict experienced by these working housewives and aims to uncover their coping strategies. The literature review emphasizes the scarcity of research on coping efforts from the perspective of working women, particularly in developing country contexts like Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach, the study explores the experiences of six working homemakers managing dual roles through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal diverse types of work-family conflict, including time-based, strain-based, and behavior-based conflicts. The coping strategies employed by these housewives vary, encompassing problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and a combination of both. This research contributes to the existing literature by providing nuanced insights into the challenges faced by working housewives in a specific rural context. The variations in coping strategies underscore the importance of recognizing individual differences and the complexity of work and family contexts. The study advocates for tailored support systems and policies, considering cultural values and grassroots-level experiences. In conclusion, this research contributes to a comprehensive understanding of coping mechanisms for work-family conflict among working mothers in Indonesia, offering valuable implications for policymakers and future research endeavors.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper categorizes intervention activities into two types, namely, coercive and supportive ones. Both means are usually applied together in resolving internal conflicts of a fragile country, yet Western powers tend to employ coercive intervention more frequently, while developing countries prefer supportive intervention. By comparing the roles that the United States and China played in the Darfur crisis as a case study, this paper explores how different means of intervention interact and how the means adopted by one party influence the other’s policy orientation. The mutual construction of national interests, national capacity and international values of different intervening powers constitute the analytical framework of this paper. In the case of Darfur, coercive intervention was found to impose more influence on the supportive one, while the latter played an indispensable role in facilitating the peace process in Darfur. As a leading power in favor of supportive engagement, China should learn to better deal with the coercive means of Western powers while working with all parties concerned to resolve internal conflicts of the target country by a pragmatic approach.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper develops the concept of bicultural competence and explores its impact on multicultural team effectiveness. Biculturals are individuals who have deeply internalized two cultural schemas. A cultural schema is a set of knowledge about values, norms, and beliefs for a given culture. Biculturals are an increasing workforce demographic, and hence a growing part of multicultural teams. Their innate skills that result from being bicultural may help solve central problems in multicultural teams, including managing conflicts and boundary spanning across cultures. Specifically, this paper defines bicultural competence, determines its antecedents, specifies its impact on the two main roles bicultural individuals play in teams, and explores their impact on multicultural team effectiveness. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper offers a comparative reading of Cleopatra, the most famous Egyptian queen in history, as portrayed by William Shakespeare in Antony and Cleopatra (1606) and Ahamad Shawqi in Mas’ra’ Cleopatra, (Death of Cleopatra) (1927). It aims at analyzing both portrayals from developmental psychological and feminist perspectives demonstrated particularly in Carol Gilligan’s theories. Gilligan explored the development of women’s morality and ethics of care in her influential book In a Different Voice (1982) and other subsequent publications. The aim is to investigate how Shakespeare and Shawqi portray her as a female protagonist, her manner of thinking, and her system of values. Cleopatra’s dilemma as a woman in her different roles as a queen, political leader, wife, mother, and lover is examined in the light of these theories of ethics of care/ justice and the power im/balance between the sexes. The methodology used in this study integrates Gilligan’s perspectives of women’s concepts of the self, morality, and how women handle issues of conflict and moral choices. The study reveals how both dramatists successfully portray Cleopatra’s moral reasoning with its different dynamics, struggling with her conflicts, choices, and decisions to find her own moral voice and self.

Abstract (sommario):
This article aims to find out how the locality value of panginyongan is implemented in Banyumasan culture, through a strategy for managing household role conflicts. The women activists who are active in public spaces, consciously have a dual role, but which factors are the most significant in supporting their harmony are not necessarily understood, so there has been no effort to maintain their existence. This article is a field study that takes a sample of women activists in Banyumas. The process of extracting data is carried out by means of in-depth interviews to determine the gender perception index, then using focus group discussions (FGD) to find out how the informants internalize the Panginyongan cultural values in their lives, especially related to the division of household roles. With the point of view of the subjects studied, the research is expected to produce a thick description of the strategy for managing household role conflicts through the cultural values of panginyongan. The results showed that the equality of positions had permeated through the equivalence of language, speech, attitude and behavior, so that none of the household players felt humiliated or exalted in filling domestic or public duties. If the wife is left for outdoor activities, the husband plays a role in completing the abandoned domestic work, and vice versa.

Abstract (sommario):
Social work in Poland and in the United States shares the values of human dignity and self-determination, but there are often value conflicts in terms of how various groups experience social roles and social expectations. This paper explores the use of multiple lenses to understand the past and current conditions for LGBT+ people in Poland. An international, university-level collaboration uses a framework of “invisible groups” to highlight the needs of those who are on the margins of society and whose human and individual rights are suppressed. The article reviews the results of a recently published on-line survey of LGBT+ populations and their views of their experiences in Polish society to illustrate their “invisibility” and the need for advocacy from the international social work community.

Abstract (sommario):
<span lang="EN-US">This article explores the concept of Nahdatul Ulama in promoting global harmony through the R 20 activities. The research employs a qualitative method with data sourced from library research. The article concludes that R 20 has taken concrete steps, facilitated by Nahdatul Ulama, to foster global harmony. These efforts culminated in a collective agreement termed the ‘Communique’ focusing on four key aspects elucidating religion as a conflict resolution: firstly, tolerance (Tasāmuh), in the dynamics of social diversity, emphasizing the development of tolerant attitudes among religious communities as an expression of the ability to bear the burden of differing perspectives. Secondly, ecotheology, a theological concept exploring the interconnectedness of religion and nature, encourages integrating spiritual dimensions with environmental responsibilities. Thirdly, Interfaith Dialogue underscores the necessity for in-depth dialogues to achieve peace among nations and religions. With openness, communication, and compassion, conflicts are viewed as opportunities to enhance understanding, fostering harmonious relationships among religious practitioners. Lastly, the article highlights the active roles of government and religious leaders in addressing extremism and intolerance, contributing to the realization of harmony. The concept used by NU as a basis for compiling the 'Communique' is special because it specifies universal religious values and strengthens the national program, namely Religious Moderation. This is based on NU's commitment as a religious organization that maintains traditionalist theological values as well as being a guardian of national policy.</span>

Abstract (sommario):
The What Professional Identity Formation (PIF) in medicine is the gradual transformation that occurs in the process of becoming a doctor, as professional values, beliefs, behaviors, relationships, roles, and responsibilities become integrated into an aggregate of existing identities.1 Conceptually, this process may be considered as a trajectory of self-perceived identities that transpires between an individual’s existing identity and an evolving, aspirational identity toward which the individual may strive.2 This process is individualized, yet contextual, psychosocially grounded, and subject to lifelong deconstruction and reconstruction depending on how the person experiences, and thus responds to, events.2 The So What Faced with key transitions, conflicts, or crises, a medical student or physician may experience dissonance between their personal values and beliefs and their professional roles and expectations.1 If left unsupported (see light blue lines in graph below), this can challenge their sense of belonging or meaning, lower self-esteem or self-efficacy, or breed distress, burnout, or attrition. When recognized and supported (see dark blue line below), defining experiences can enhance tolerance for ambiguity, enable meaning-making, foster socialization into communities of learning or practice, and deepen enculturation and commitment to the profession.2 The What Now PIF is implicitly a fundamental goal of medical education, necessitating institutional support along the medical education continuum.1-3

Abstract (sommario):
The EU’s single market provides several implications to East Asian countries building their FTAs for their regional economic integration. They participate in different mega FTAs such as the RCEP and the CPTPP. As a result, their economic interests are rather divided deeply and related to political and security issues in the Asia and Pacific region. Particularly, the trade conflicts between the U.S. and China have continued since 2018, and the U.S. negated the TPP that turned to CPTPP without the U.S., while India withdrew from the RCEP in Nov. 2019. This paper deals with Mega FTAs as well as East Asian collaboration and competition. It also argues what are East Asian countries’ economic interests by participating in the RCEP and the CPTPP as well as how to overcome the newly emerging protectionism caused by the new U.S. trade policy and trade conflicts between G2. Finally, it also analyzes the roles and strategies of China, Japan, and Korea to protect their regional and global economic interests overcoming protectionism in the global trade environment individually and collectively, while the new global supply chains are reshaping in the region.

Abstract (sommario):
Norway is home to the last remaining populations of wild mountain reindeer (Rangifer tarandus tarandus) in Europe. Concerns over anthropogenic and natural drivers have led to change in the management regime from a population-based model to an area-based model. More complex management goals, increasing involvement of stakeholders, and larger management units call for improved knowledge about reindeer-related values. We examined the responses of 1000 respondents to 39 statements of attitudes and values associated with wild reindeer presence and the management situation in two reindeer regions of southern Norway. We used a partial least-squares path modeling approach to examine the nexus between the attraction of wild reindeer, sustainability concerns, utilitarian and non-utilitarian values, conflicts, and attitudes toward hunting. The results show that local concepts of the sustainability of reindeer are based on opinions about the ecological requirements as well as the roles reindeer can play in the social and economic development of the communities. The attraction of reindeer is a function of consumptive as well as non-consumptive objectives. Segments of the community with different consumptive orientations can share ideas about the attraction of reindeer, but diverge in their interpretation of the sustainability of the species. Improved knowledge about the diversity and complexity of value orientations associated with wild reindeer can be a useful tool for developing multi-objective management frameworks with a diversity of stakeholders who may share similar values and interests, although they have different experience and knowledge bases.

Abstract (sommario):
Church ministers often face the challenges of multiple, conflicting, and ambiguous roles, thus incurring job-related stress based upon the expectations of others and individual personality dynamics. Following the procedures utilized by L. J. Francis and R. Rodger (1994), the relationship of perceived role conflict and personality dynamics was investigated in 930 British Pentecostal ministers. These clergy completed a demographic survey, the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (H. J. Eysenck & S. B. G. Eysenck, 1975), and the prioritization of 20 ministerial roles in terms of personal values and the perceived expectations of others. The results of this study indicate that ministers who endorse traits associated with neuroticism tend to experience role conflict more than those endorsing other personality profiles.
