Archives and Special Collections at the Wilson Library of the University of La Verne, located in inland southern California, offers an informative case study of descriptive practices and metadata attached to digital collections at a small liberal arts college. Since recruiting a staff specifically tasked to manage the archives, the Wilson Library has increased the number of collections available to patrons online through the creation of a digital collections Web page. Digitized, hosted collections include the papers of a faculty member from the early 20th century, photographs of early La Verne, historic local newspapers, and manuscript sources regarding Japanese American internment. Metadata fields at Wilson Library have developed to encompass a greater variety of contextual information about digitized records, improving users' ability to put the collections to use for research. Ultimately, this case study demonstrates what a library at a small university can accomplish with a dedicated staff and a clear objective, even with limited resources.

Born in 1952, Professor of sciences of education at the University of Picardie Jules Verne (Amiens, France), Bruno Poucet is a French renowned historian of education in France. He has conducted and realized various researches on education (and their interactions with politics) in contemporary France. He worked on the history of education policies of the French ‘Fifth Republic’ (founded in 1958 by Charles de Gaulle) at the national level and in the Picardie region - where he lives and works. He is interested in the history of secondary and higher education, private sector of education, school secularism (called in France «laïcité») and the teaching and curriculum of philosophy. Eclectic in his areas of interest, he has also been deeply committed in the functioning of the French education system. He has been a long-time teachers’ union deputy leader at the CFDT (currently the major trade union in France). In 2011, he has created the CAREF research unit (Centre Aménois de Recherche en Éducation et en Formation, specialized in educational studies), at the University of Picardie Jules Verne.He has kindly accepted to be interviewed by Ismail Ferhat, Associate professor at the University of Picardie Jules Verne (CAREF research Unit/Teachers training school of Amiens), for the review Espacio, Tiempo y Educación, in spite of the difficult sanitary situation in France, in April 2020.

In 2022, the university press Presses universitaires Blaise-Pascal (Clermont-Ferrand, France) published the first scholarly edition of one of the most prominent works by Jules Verne — Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas. The publisher, ex-professor at the University of Hong Kong, and author of Jules Verne’s English-language biography (2006), as well as numerous works about the writer, William Butcher, describes this edition as the novel’s “restored revision” (texte restaure). This book is the result of many years of research into restoring Jules Verne’s works in their original form, untouched by extensive editorial revisions. It is commonly known that all works in The Extraordinary Voyages collection underwent various amendments and adjustments by the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel and later on, by Jules Verne’s son Louis-Jules. W. Butcher previously published English translations and the original versions of certain Jules Verne’s works, including Five Weeks in a Balloon, Journey to the Center of the Earth, The Adventures of Captain Hatteras, Around the World in Eighty Days and others. The pocket size of these editions, however, would not allow to carry out the ambitious editorial project. This review focuses on the core strategies of the Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas’s edition, which W. Butcher refers to as dehetzelisation. The edition also includes a comprehensive scholarly apparatus (an introductory article, rationale, name index, biographical background, detailed chronology of novel writing, annotated bibliography, etc.).

It is also surrounded by a good deal of mystery, prompting questions; to how much of it is based on reality, and, perhaps even more intriguingly, the true identity of the author.

Community engagement is commonly imbedded in the ethos of institutions of higher education and has been identified as a High Impact Practice for student learning and retention. The Sustained Engagement Experiences in Kinesiology (SEEK) program at the University of La Verne is a curriculum-wide approach that moves students through four stages of community engagement: Respect, Participating with Effort, Self-Directions, and Leadership. The stages are developmentally sequenced across the curriculum and provide opportunities for learners to move from passive participants to active engagement scholars. The engagement experiences serve to enhance students’ abilities to transfer what they learn in the classroom to real-life problems, foster an asset-based approach to community engagement, and facilitate a transition from surface-to deep-learning.

The author, Emeritus Professor at the Picardie-Jules Verne University , Amiens, France, has extended teaching experience also at the universities of Lille, Paris IV (Sorbonne), and at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers of Paris. She has undertaken lengthy investigations into Italy, and obtained her Ph. D on the planning of Mezzogiorno and its results on the territory of Puglia, published by the Ecole Française de Rome. Over 80 major publications by her focus on the evolution of the Paris area and North European metropolitan strategies; industry and transport crisis and general technology evolution; Italy especially industrial and regional planning and Mezzogiorno; and Mediterranean cities, traditional urban heritage and new strategies. Her latest important publication is Une Mer entre Trois Continents: La Méditerranée (Paris, Ellipses Ed., December 2001).

This research focused on the study of administrative leadership in terms of its concept, importance and characteristics, and what is the impact of its practices on the faculty of education and employment at the university. So as the ability of administrative leadership in creating a state of job satisfaction among the workers, in order to reach the achievement of dedication and sincerity and the perfection of performance which aims to achieve the scientific and educational goals of the University. The French University of Picardy Jules Verne was chosen as a model for study.

It therefore follows that over the last half century or so, a large body of literature devoted to the various topics and aspects of trade and migration has been produced by scholars from a mélange of disciplines. <p>Este artículo pretende contribuir al debate sobre la importancia de la traducción didáctica en el aula de lengua extranjera mediante la ilustración de su uso como recurso didáctico y herramienta de aprendizaje. Se presentan las bases metodológicas que fundamentan una propuesta materializada en tres proyectos de traducción colaborativa llevados a cabo en la educación superior, concretamente en un aula de catalán como lengua extranjera (CLE) de la Université de Picardie Jules Verne (Francia), en entornos de naturaleza presencial y virtual. Estas prácticas se agrupan en tres secuencias didácticas distintas que giran alrededor de un género discursivo determinado –un videoclip, un anuncio publicitario y una receta– y se organizan a través del trabajo en equipo.</p>

This research aimed to analyze the needs of lecturers and students regarding the need to do drama scripts transformation based on Menteng Battle Verse, which was conducted at Sriwijaya University. The data collection of the needs analysis used interviews and questionnaires, and the respondents were 1 lecturer teaching a Palembang Malay Traditional Theatre course and 57 students of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Sriwijaya University. This research applied qualitative and quantitative research. Data analysis was carried out by reviewing the results of interviews and questionnaires. The components of the needs analysis included (1) students’ knowledge of Menteng Battle Verse, (2) Students’ knowledge of the content of Menteng Battle Verse, (3) students’ perspectives on the preservation of Menteng Battle Verse, and (4) drama script transformation based on Menteng Battle Verse. In conclusion, the result of the needs analysis showed that the lecturer and students needed to do a drama scripts transformation based on Menteng Battle Verse. The transformation was used as a pilot project for students to write a drama script based on the Menteng Battle Verse in the Palembang Malay Traditional Theatre course.

BackgroundThe University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV) was founded in 2006 and since then has developed an effective international strategy that is enhancing the teaching and research culture of the university. To build capacity in the public health field, Uni-CV has established collaborations with the University of Leicester (UoL), UK, and with the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHTM – NOVA University), Portugal. These follow different approaches.MethodsDifferent type of capacity building initiatives focused on researchers and postgraduate students.ResultsThe collaboration with UoL was established in 2016 and builds on funded research programmes in infectious disease and evolution of antimicrobial drug resistance (AMR). These programmes have allowed technology development and transfer, which offer the opportunity for undergraduate students to lead laboratory–based research projects at Uni-CV. In these two years, we have successfully characterised the epidemiology and patterns of AMR underlying Helicobacter pylori infections in Cape Verde. Beyond the research outputs, we have trained four undergraduates in laboratory-based microbiology at Uni-CV. From this experience, we are currently designing new sustainable higher education programmes aligned with the MSc in Public health at Uni-CV that aim to support Uni-CV lecturers in the supervision of postgraduate students, either independently or in collaboration with UoL researchers.The collaboration with IHTM was established in 2008 with the main aim of developing the research capacity of Cape Verde researchers and health professionals in infection and vector-born diseases and in bioethics. These activities have also led to collaborative research in these areas. Since then, six training courses were taught that benefited ∼20 Uni-CV lecturers and ∼100 government professionals.ConclusionAlthough these collaborative approaches are different in nature, they have been successful in the training of health professionals, researchers and technicians in Cape Verde and have contributed to the establishment of mutually beneficial research programmes.

The Holy Quran has a property to improve both physical and psychological well-being. In Muslim communities, reciting the Holy Quran is highly important and is viewed as a sort of religious treatment. This study was investigated whether reciting a verse of Holy Quran (Verse 11, Surah Zuha) on daily basis brings reduction in stress level by enhancing gratitude among teachers and students. An experimental research design was used to conduct the study. A total of (N=90) voluntary teachers and students were selected by using voluntary response sampling technique. Study was carried out in three phases. Phase 1: At Pre-Assessment level by using the six-item Gratitude Questionnaire (GQ6) and Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) were used to assess the participants’ gratitude and stress. Voluntary teachers and students were divided into three groups. Phase 2: Implementation of Quranic Verse and daily blessings journaling assigned to group A for a period of three weeks. Group B was given only verse reading and group C was control group. Phase 3: Post Assessment level by using the (GQ6) and (K10) to see the gratitude and stress in participants. Pre and post testing data were analyzed through SPSS by using the paired sample t-test. Findings revealed the significant results of reading Quranic verse and writing blessings of the day but on control group having no effect. This indicates that verse 11 of Surah Zuha directly linked with gratitude enhancement. The conclusion of this study is that Quran having a positive effect on people mental health.

While Cambridge verse covers a range of matters and manners, time is its master-theme and rhyme is its master-scheme. Seemingly sophomoric, Cambridge verse is significant as a case of verse doing social work for its writers and readers: versifying helped distinguish students and alumni as refined, cultivated members of the Victorian elite. In Cambridge verse, the social meanings of versifying condensed above all in the versifier’s facility with form, which implied the versifier’s refinement. The history of acoustics at Brigham Young University dates well back into the first half of the twentieth century. Nonetheless, at the end of the twentieth century the program was on the verge of dying off. The author was hired in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at that time, in the hopes of revitalizing the acoustics program. Various steps were taken at opportune times to continuously rebuild the program to where it has become well known again – both nationally and internationally. The acoustics program is characterized by both a very strong undergraduate program in acoustics, as well as a thriving graduate program that has produced over 70 graduate theses and dissertations and even more undergraduate theses and capstone papers. This presentation will overview the growth and development of the acoustics program since 1995, highlighting lessons learned that may be useful for others looking to develop or strengthen their programs.

Objetivo: o objetivo deste artigo é examinar a implementação de casos de estudo de TI Verde no ambiente universitário a partir das práticas e resultados relatados em artigos científicos para ter um melhor entendimento de como as universidades estão lidando com estes. problemas. Metodologia: para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho, foi realizada uma revisão sistemática e definido um protocolo de pesquisa com base nas publicações científicas nas bases de dados de periódicos ACM, IEEE e Scopus nos últimos dez anos. O processo foi realizado em duas etapas de compreensão da busca nas bases de dados de periódicos e da análise sistemática dos artigos escolhidos relacionados ao tema da pesquisa. Resultados: foram identificados nove artigos da África, América, Ásia, Europa e Oceania, que relataram a prática de aplicação de TI Verde em universidades. Por meio dos casos estudados, discute-se como iniciar um projeto, tecnologias e dificuldades e benefícios da implementação dos mesmos. Conclusões: este estudo apresenta uma visão geral de algumas práticas de sustentabilidade em TI, que ajudam a compreender o universo da TI Verde aplicada às universidades. A pesquisa se limita à análise documental qualitativa de artigos científicos.

Abstract: The Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) has been carrying out an experience of metropolitan planning in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, since 2009, involving a significant number of faculty and students. In this paper, we highlight some of the innovative aspects of this planning process. We stress the specificities of a planning experience conducted under the auspices of the University in an attempt to move beyond both its disciplinary and academic boundaries. Therefore, we emphasize the participatory dimension in which the University team is engaged along with civil society. We also describe proposals that put the environmental concern at the forefront of metropolitan restructuring and the efforts to materialize them through a Green and Blue Weft (Trama Verde e Azul - TVA). Finally, we discuss our understanding of planning as a political process beyond the institutionalized public policy practice in an attempt to give voice and visibility to different ways of seeing and making the metropolitan region.

The present study is dedicated to the description of one of the areas in which an asymmetry in the linguistic choices available to Cape Verdeans is easily noticed, that is, the national education system. Firstly, we will trace the socio-historical context of the use of Portuguese and Cape Verdean in higher education, including some information about basic and secondary education. In the second part, we will present the results of the research carried out in 2016/2017 on the island of São Vicente, in Cape Verde, referring to the opinions of university students and the teaching staff regarding, for instance, the mandatory use of the Portuguese language in the school environment or the scarce presence of the national language in the formal higher education. For the purposes of this study, we chose 60 interviews: 37 with students from the University of Mindelo (UM), 15 with students from the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV) and 8 with university professors, specialists in different scientific areas (Uni-CV, UM). The methodology applied for its description will be qualitative, with summarizing quantitative elements. The final observations, due to the small number of participants, cannot be considered as representative of the opinion of the entire population of São Vicente island, but they can, however, constitute a starting point for more comprehensive studies.

This research entitled “Integration of Islamic Concept in Teaching Biology in the University”. Biological science that is taught in most learning institutions has been secular in nature. Almost all of the biological processes, theories and principles are taught without referring to Islamic concept. The teaching of Qur'an is separated from the teaching of Biological science. Thus, many Muslim students and teachers have kept on patronizing secular curriculum of the west. Hence, this research work spelled out the relevant and applicable Qur’anic verses to Biology, assessed why Biological teachings of Islam should be a part of the curriculum in the university, and determined the perception and level of awareness of the students and teachers on the relevance of certain Biological concept and Islamic context. This study was conducted at the Mindanao State University - Sulu. This research was both qualitative and quantitative since the findings were based on theories, Qur’anic verses, interviews and percentage computation. Based on the findings, there were many Qur-anic verses dealing with Biological sciences, and these verses were relevant and applicable to Biology. Specifically on sex determination which deals with the sex of organism. The verse is “He bestows female upon whom He wills, and bestows male upon He wills (Qur’an, 42:49), also, has He taken daughters out of what He has created, and He has selected for your son? (Qur’an, 43:16). And made of him two sexes, male and female (Qur’an, 75:39). Another, We have created you in pairs, male and female (Qur’an, 78:8). This verse is also relevant to the function of gene which determines the two contrasting traits. On order, a characteristic of life which refers to the organization and precise arrangement of structure of organism is related to this verse, Allah shaped and fashioned him in due proportion (Qur’an, 75:38). On adaptation in which the organism must undergo changes to survive. Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of organisms as long as they do not change themselves (Qur’an, 13:11). Regarding perceptions and awareness, almost all the participants were aware and agreed on the relevance of Biological science to Islam. The results revealed that some of the Biological theories, principles and process are relevant and applicable to Qur’anic verses. However, the researcher recommended that there is a need for the Biological teaching of Islam to be part of the curriculum in the university in order to avoid confusion on Biological concept and Islamic context. The Holy Qur-an contain verses relevant and applicable to Biological concept. Most of the respondents have agreed and believed on both Biological and Islamic concepts as reflected on the findings above. Therefore, integration of Islamic concept in teaching Biology is necessary.

Resumo: O objetivo central do estudo é identificar as práticas de Tecnologia da Informação Verde que têm sido adotadas em Instituições de Ensino Superior. Além das referidas práticas, foram elencadas as dificuldades e os benefícios percebidos em seu processo de implementação. Foi realizada uma revisão sistemática da literatura publicada entre os anos de 2015 e 2020 nas bases de dados do Portal de Periódicos da Capes e da Biblioteca Digital de Teses e Dissertações, sendo selecionados 7 estudos para análise. As práticas de TI Verde mais recorrentes estão voltadas ao gerenciamento de resíduos, com descarte adequado e reciclagem de resíduos eletrônicos. Entre as dificuldades enfrentadas, destaca-se a falta de conhecimento e engajamento sobre a temática de sustentabilidade e TI Verde. Já entre os benefícios percebidos, destacam-se ganhos ambientais e financeiros, relacionados à economia de energia, redução de emissão de CO² na atmosfera, e diminuição de custos com aquisição de TI.Palavras-chave: TI Verde; universidade; ensino superior; revisão sistemática.Abstract: The main objective of the study is to identify the Green Information Technology practices that have been adopted in University education institutions. In addition to the aforementioned practices, the difficulties and benefits perceived in their implementation process were listed. A systematic review of the literature published between 2015 and 2020 was carried out in the databases of the Capes Periodicals Portal and the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, and 7 studies were selected for analysis. The most recurrent Green IT practices are focused on waste management, with proper disposal and recycling of electronic waste. Among the difficulties faced, the lack of knowledge and engagement about sustainability and Green IT stands out. Among the perceived benefits, environmental and financial gains stand out, related to energy savings, reduction of CO² emission in the atmosphere, and reduction of costs with IT acquisition.Keywords: Green IT, university, University education, sistematic review.
