Abstract (sommario):

Purpose – The purpose of the article is to identify the essence and determinants of the fiscal health of territorial self‑government units (TSU) in Poland and the scope of its measurement and assessment. Research methods – Descriptive analysis, comparative analysis, and inductive and deductive reasoning were used. Results – A lot of attention has been paid to the issue of financial health and financial stability of territorial self‑government units (TSUs) in the national literature, but the issue of the fiscal health of TSUs is poorly recognized. The authors clarified the essence of TSU fiscal health and classified its determinants, and then proposed a scope for its measurement and assessment. Originality /value /implications /recommendations – Theoretical research was conducted on the essence of TSU fiscal health in the context of financial health and financial resilience of TSU. TSU fiscal health is a less recognized term in the national literature than the term healthy public finances. It refers to but is not identical to, the financial health and financial sustainability of TSUs. In practice, there is a lack of a comprehensive and widely accepted model for measuring and assessing the fiscal health of TSUs, which should be a challenge for researchers seeking to fill this gap.

THE AIM OF THIS STUDY WAS TO DETERMINE WHETHER conceptual priming occurs between successively presented short musical pieces called Temporal Semantic Units (TSUs). Behavioral and ERP data were recorded while participants, experts and nonexperts in TSUs, were listening to pairs of TSUs and were asked to determine whether the target TSU evoked the same or a different concept than the prime TSU. Target TSUs were either congruous (i.e., they developed the same musical concept as the prime TSUs) or incongruous (i.e., they started as congruous TSUs but shifted midstream into a different concept). Results showed that, whereas P3a components were elicited in both groups by the shifting into incongruous TSUs, thereby reflecting an automatic shift of attention when the changes occurred, P3b components were elicited in experts and N400-like components were found in nonexperts. The functional significance of these results is discussed in regard of previous results with environmental sounds.

Abstract (sommario):

Twenty oil wells were selected to study the tectonostratigraphic of the Cretaceous in southern Iraq, in order to develop a comprehensive description of the petroleum system in the region. That was conducted through an interpretation of the technical reports and the available information of the wells, which include sedimentary, stratigraphy, tectonic reports, and oil reservoir studies of the Cretaceous. Stratigraphically, a third order cycle was identified in the Cretaceous succession in southern Iraq, which also comprises seven and half cycles of the fourth order. Eight genetic stratigraphic sequences were also identified, as well as eight maximum flooding surfaces. The concept of the tectonostratigraphic boundary (TSB) and the tectonostratigraphic unit (TSU) has been adapted in this study. In the present study, the Cretaceous period in southern Iraq considers one tectonostratigraphic system (TSS) consisting of four main tectonostratigraphic categories. Each category consists of a set or group of secondary tectonostratigraphic units; these are TSU1A, TSU1B, TSU1C, TSU1D-TSU2A, TSU2B-TSU3A, TSU3B, TSU3C-TSU4A, TSU4B, and TSU4. These units are separated by five tectonostratigraphic boundaries presented from TSB1 to TSB5 by Sulaiy, Shuaiba, Mauddud, Khasib, lower part of Tanuma, and Shiranish. The lateral extensions of the TSUs that are close to the passive margin (northeast part of the study area) are hydrocarbon reservoirs. The lateral extensions TSUs that are far from the passive margin (southwest part of the study area) are hydrocarbon generator source. The intermediate unite is characterized as both a generator source and reservoir hydrocarbon. Vertically, the TSUs are characterized by improved reservoir properties with reduced depth due to the lack of compressional tectonic force, which leads to forming a good primary porosity. The transfer from north to south of the study area represents a trend of improvement in reservoir characteristics for the same reason as mentioned previously. Finally, the TSB represents a source generator hydrocarbon more than a reservoir.

Abstract (sommario):

Purpose Solar energy applications are limited because of its intermittent and discontinuous availability with respect to time. Hence, solar energy thermal conversion systems need integration with thermal storage units (TSUs) to use solar energy in off sunshine hours. This paper aims to perform thermal analysis of a solar air heater (SAH) integrated with a phase change material (PCM)-based TSU to supply hot air during night period. Design/methodology/approach An experimental setup with TSU as main component was prepared with SAH at its upward side, food chamber at its downward side as subcomponents. In TSU, paraffin wax was used as thermal energy storage material. Mass flow rate of air considered as an input parameter in the experiment. Two different absorber plates, namely, plane and ribbed absorber plates were used for the experimentation. Each day for a fixed mass flow of air, observations were made during charging and discharging of PCM. Findings Nusselt number and convection heat transfer coefficients were analytically calculated by considering flow through TSU as external flow over bank of tubes in a rectangular duct. A temperature drop of around 7-8°C during charging of PCM and temperature rise of around 4-5°C during discharging of PCM was observed from the experimental results. The average practical efficiency of TSU with ribbed absorber plate SAH during charging and discharging of PCM was 22 and 6 per cent, respectively, higher than that of TSU with plane absorber plate SAH. Research limitations/implications There are no limitations for research on SAH integrated with TSU. Different PCM including paraffin wax, Glauber’s salt, salt hydrates and water are used for thermal storage. Only limitation is lower efficiency of SAH integrated with TSU because of lower heat transfer coefficients with air as working medium. If it can improve heat transfer coefficients of air then heat transfer rates with these units will be higher. Practical implications There are no practical limitations for research on SAH integrated with TSU. Sophisticated instrumentation is needed to measure flow rates, temperatures and pressure variations of air. Social implications In poultry farms during night, chicks cannot survive at cold climatic conditions. Hence, hot air should be supplied to poultry farms whenever the atmospheric temperature drops. It is proposed that, in combination with TSUs, heat produced by SAH is stored in day time in the form of either sensible or latent heat and is retrieved to provide hot air in the night times. This will reduce total operating costs in poultry farms. Originality/value Conventionally, people are producing hot air by combusting coal in poultry forms. This cost around Rs. 75,000 per month for a batch of 225 to 250 chicks in a poultry form. Hot air could be produced economically during off sunshine hours from SAH integrated with TSU compared to the conventional method of coal burning. Present experimental investigations conducted to fill the literature gap in this area of research and to design a SAH integrated with TSU to produce hot air for poultry forms.

Abstract (sommario):

Ethylene refrigeration for gases separation at low temperature and high pressure for olefin production is an important technique in the chemical industry. Since small changes in the operating conditions of such a process can have a significant influence on its economics, optimization is desirable. The present work was aimed to propose and establish a mathematical model for the ethylene refrigeration system of the ethylene plant in Basrah petrochemical complex NO.1 (PC1) and reformulated as a geometric programming problem using Visual Basic for predicting:- (overall efficiency of the ethylene refrigeration system {% }and percent of energy saving %E). Through the formulated model shaft work consumption by the centrifugal compressor, refrigeration effect and coefficient of performance of the system were obtained and other parameters concerning the system. The results of simulation showed a good agreement with the manufacturer manual.In this study the effect of four factors as independent variables on the overall refrigeration system efficiency and percent of energy saving were studied ;evaporator low pressure (PL) in the range of (1-3)bar ,compressor discharge high pressure (Ph) in the range of ( 28-32)bar ,condenser degree of sub-cool temperature (Tsub-D) in the range of (6-22)0C and evaporator degree of superheat temperature (Tsup-D) in the range of (1-5)0C. And the optimum conditions that aimed to minimize the thermodynamic irreversibility i.e (maximize overall refrigeration system efficiency) and also lower operating cost i.e (maximize percent of energy saving) evaporator low pressure (PL) (2.8 bar), compressor discharge high pressure (Ph) (28.7 bar), condenser degree of sub-cool temperature (Tsub-D) (190C), and evaporator degree of superheat temperature (Tsup-D) (3.40C). At these conditions the overall refrigeration system efficiency is (81.8%) and percent of energy saving is 51.18% with respect to conditions in the factory.

Abstract (sommario):

Uptake of thiosulfate ions as an inorganic sulfur source from the environment is important for bacterial sulfur assimilation. Recently, a selective thiosulfate uptake pathway involving a membrane protein YeeE (TsuA) in Escherichia coli was characterized. YeeE-like proteins are conserved in some bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. However, the precise function of YeeE, along with its potential partner protein in the thiosulfate ion uptake pathway, remained unclear. Here, we assessed selective thiosulfate transport via Spirochaeta thermophila YeeE in vitro and characterized E. coli YeeD (TsuB) as an adjacent and essential protein for YeeE-mediated thiosulfate uptake in vivo. We further showed that S. thermophila YeeD possesses thiosulfate decomposition activity and that a conserved cysteine in YeeD was modified to several forms in the presence of thiosulfate. Finally, the crystal structures of S. thermophila YeeE-YeeD fusion proteins at 3.34-Å and 2.60-Å resolutions revealed their interactions. The association was evaluated by a binding assay using purified S. thermophila YeeE and YeeD. Based on these results, a model of the sophisticated uptake of thiosulfate ions by YeeE and YeeD is proposed.

Abstract (sommario):

A substituição do Cerrado mato-grossense para práticas agrícolas e a dinâmica fenológica alteram os índices biofísicos da superfície como a temperatura da superfície (Tsup) e o índice de área foliar (IAF). Assim, o objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar a variação do IAF e da Tsup por sensoriamento remoto em uma área de Cerrado no interior do estado de Mato Grosso. Imagens do sensor Thematic Mapper (TM) Landsat 5 foram utilizadas para estimar o IAF e a Tsup de uma área de Cerrado (CE), cana-de-açúcar (CA), pastagem (PA) e soja (SJ) em 2011. O IAF e a Tsup apresentaram correlação inversa. O IAF diminuiu e a Tsup aumentou ao longo da estação seca. Os maiores IAF e menores Tsup foram observados no CE, enquanto que os menores IAF e maiores Tsup foram observados na SJ. Os padrões temporais e espaciais do IAF e da Tsup na área de estudo ocorreram dirigidos pela precipitação, atividades antropogênicas e pelo próprio ciclo fenológico da vegetação.Palavras-chave: superfície do solo, antropização, aquecimento da superfície, sensoriamento remoto. INFLUENCE OF DEFORESTATION ON LEAF AREA INDEX AND SURFACE TEMPERATURE IN THE CERRADO OF MATO GROSSO ABSTRACT:The substitution of the Cerrado of Mato Grosso for agricultural practices and phenological dynamics alter the biophysical indexes of the surface such as surface temperature (Tsup) and leaf area index (LAI). Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the variation of LAI and Tsup by remote sensing in a Cerrado area in the state of Mato Grosso. The images of the Thematic Mapper (TM) Landsat 5 sensor were used to estimate the LAI and Tsup of an area of Cerrado (CE), sugarcane (CA), pasture (PA) and soybean (SJ) in 2011. The LAI and Tsup presented an inverse correlation. LAI declined and Tsup increased throughout the dry season. The higher LAI and lower Tsup were observed in the CE, while the lower LAI and higher Tsup were observed in SJ. The temporal and spatial patterns of LAI and Tsup in the study area were driven by precipitation, anthropogenic activities and by the phenological cycle of vegetation itself.Keywords: soil surface, anthropization, surface heating, remote sensing.

Ta hard coatings were prepared on PCrNi1MoA steel substrates by direct current magnetron sputtering, and their growth and phase evolution could be controlled by adjusting the substrate temperature (Tsub) and sputtering power (Pspu) at various conditions (Tsub = 200–400 °C, Pspu = 100–175 W). The combined effect of Tsub and Pspu on the crystalline phase, surface morphology, and mechanical properties of the coatings was investigated. It was found that higher Pspu was required in order to obtain α-Ta coatings when the coatings are deposited at lower Tsub, and vice versa, because the deposition energy (controlled by Tsub and Pspu simultaneously) within a certain range was necessary. At the optimum Tsub with the corresponding Pspu of 200 °C-175 W, 300 °C-150 W, and 400 °C-100 W, respectively, the single-phased and homogeneous α-Ta coatings were obtained. Moreover, the α-Ta coating deposited at Tsub-Pspu of 400 °C-100 W showed a denser surface and a finer grain, and as a result exhibited higher hardness (9 GPa), better toughness, and larger adhesion (18.46 N).

BaRuO3(BRO) and BaIrO3(BIO) thin films were prepared by laser ablation, and the effects of preparation conditions on the structure, morphology and electrical conductivity were investigated. BRO thin films deposited at oxygen partial pressure (PO2) = 13 Pa and substrate temperature (Tsub) < 573 K were amorphous. At Tsub = 573 K, the rhombohedral BRO thin films with (110) orientation were obtained. BRO thin films prepared at Tsub = 773 K and PO2= 13 Pa exhibited the resistivity of 5x10-6 m and showed metallic conduction. BIO thin films deposited at PO2= 40 Pa and Tsub < 623 K were amorphous. Tsub > 623 K, the BIO thin films crystallized into a 6H structure were obtained. The resistivity of the BIO films at PO2= 40 Pa decreased from 1.4x10-2 to 4x10-4 m with decreasing Tsub from 1073 to 573 K.

Bi2Se3 nanostructures, microsised fibre bundles, and platelets have been synthesised through a simple chemical spray pyrolysis route on glass substrates. Low substrate temperatures (Tsub) favoured growth of nanostructures while elevated Tsub was accompanied by increased grain growth and formation of microsised platelets. The nanostructures were identified as nanorods, nanofibers, nanotubes, nanoflowers, and nanoneedles of various aspect ratios. There was an observed red shift of the optical band gap (Egopt) with increased Tsub from 2.40 eV at 95°C to 1.25 eV at 360°C. Thermo probe measurements confirmed n-type conductivity with dark resistivities which followed a near exponential decline with elevated Tsub. The observed changes in optoelectronic properties existing in the different Tsub regimes were explained on the basis of microstructural and textural changes in the pristine clusters.

Ca-Ti-O films were prepared by MOCVD using Ca(dpm)2 and Ti(OiPr)2(dpm)2 precursors. The phases, composition and morphology of Ca-Ti-O films changed depending on the molar ratio of Ca to Ti precursors (RCa/Ti), total pressure (Ptot) and substrate temperature (Tsub). CaTiO3 films in a single phase were obtained at Tsub = 973 and 1073 K. CaTiO3 films prepared at 873 K had a dense structure and smooth surface. CaTiO3 films prepared at Tsub = 1073 K had complicated rough surface with a cauliflower-like texture. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) formed in 3 days on the CaTiO3 film prepared at Tsub = 1073 K.

Calcium phosphate films were prepared by MOCVD using Ca(dpm)2 and (C6H5O)3PO precursors. The phases, composition and morphology of films changed depending on the molar ratio of Ca to P precursors (RCa/P), total pressure (Ptot) and substrate temperature (Tsub). α-tricalcimu phosphate (α-TCP, α-Ca3(PO4)2) films in a single phase were obtained at Tsub = 1073 K, 0.1 < RCa/P < 0.4 and Tsub = 973 K, RCa/P < 0.4. Hydroxyapatite (HAp, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) films in a single phase were obtained at Tsub = 1073 K, 0.8 < RCa/P < 1.0 and Tsub = 973 K, 0.5 < RCa/P < 0.6. Ca-P-O films had a dense and smooth surface. HAp formed within 1 day on the α-TCP film and wholly covered the specimens within 2 weeks in a Hanks’ solution. The surface of CVD-HAp film was covered by precipitated HAp within 6 hours.

A Universidade de São Paulo oferece uma disciplina de graduação denominada Arte Marcial Chinesa: Cultura e Movimento, que visa a introduzir e a promover o sistema Ving Tsun. O objetivo do presente estudo foi verificar o efeito de um programa Ving Tsun/Kung Fu sobre o conhecimento declarativo de estudantes de graduação da Escola de Educação Física e Esporte da Universidade de São Paulo (EEFEUSP). Quarenta estudantes de graduação participaram de um programa Ving Tsun/Kung Fu de dezesseis semanas realizado na EEFEUSP. O conhecimento declarativo dos alunos foi analisado por meio de registros orais, dissertações e entrevistas. A análise de conteúdo foi baseada no método de Bardin. Os resultados presentes sugerem que um programa Ving Tsun/Kung Fu pode fornecer mudanças nos conceitos prévios de estudantes de graduação em relação à sua visão sobre o uso de habilidades técnicas de Ving Tsun/Kung Fu, que se deslocam da percepção de usá-las apenas com fins de combate para o uso como ferramenta de desenvolvimento humano.

Przedmiotem niniejszej glosy jest analiza i ocena wyroku Trybunału Sprawiedliwości Unii Europejskiej (dalej: TSUE) wydanego dnia 6 października 2021 r. w sprawie C-882/19 z powódzwa Sumal SL przeciwko Mercedes Benz Trucks España SL. Wyrok w sprawie Sumal dotyczy istotnego zagadnienia w obszarze prawa konkurencji zarówno publicznego, jak i prywatnego (private enforcement), tj. ustalenia kręgu podmiotów odpowiedzialnych za naruszenia prawa konkurencji działających w ramach jednego organizmu gospodarczego. Dotychczasowe orzecznictwo TSUE w tym zakresie koncentrowało się przede wszystkich na ustaleniu odpowiedzialności spółki dominującej (matki) w grupie spółek. W wyroku w sprawie Sumal, TSUE podjął kwestię odpowiedzialności spółek zależnych (córek), w sytuacji naruszenia prawa konkurencji przez spółkę matkę. TSUE nie przekreślił w żadnym wypadku dotychczasowego orzecznictwa TSUE dot. single economic unit, uszczegółowił jedynie warunki odpowiedzialności spółek zależnych. Owe doprecyzowanie było niewątpliwie pożądane. Niemniej stawia pod znakiem zapytania zasadę odpowiedzialności spółek zależnych w sytuacji, gdy nie brały one bezpośrednio udziału w naruszeniu, ale w sposób pośredni lub nieformalny.

Soil microorganisms are well studied for their beneficial effects on plant growth and their impact on biocontrol agents. The production of volatile antifungal compounds emitted from soil fungi is considered to be an effective ability that can be applied in biofumigants in the control of plant diseases. A soil fungus, Trichoderma asperelloides TSU1, was isolated from flamingo flower cultivated soil and identified on the basis of the morphology and molecular analysis of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), rpb2, and tef1-α genes. To test T. asperelloides TSU1-produced volatile organic compounds (VOCs) with antifungal activity, the sealed plate method was used. The VOCs of T. asperelloides TSU1 inhibited the mycelial growth of fungal pathogens that were recently reported as emerging diseases in Thailand, namely, Corynespora cassiicola, Fusarium incarnatum, Neopestalotiopsis clavispora, N. cubana, and Sclerotium rolfsii, with a percentage inhibition range of 38.88–68.33%. Solid-phase microextraction (SPME) was applied to trap VOCs from T. asperelloides TSU1 and tentatively identify them through gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS). A total of 17 compounds were detected in the VOCs of T. asperelloides TSU1, and the dominant compounds were identified as fluoro(trinitro)methane (18.192% peak area) and 2-phenylethanol (9.803% peak area). Interestingly, the commercial 2-phenyethanol showed antifungal activity against fungal pathogens that were similar to the VOCs of T. asperelloides TSU1 by bioassay. On the basis of our study’s results, T. asperelloides TSU1 isolated from soil displayed antifungal abilities via the production of VOCs responsible for restricting pathogen growth.
