Testo completoWith the rise of globalization, changes in the working environment are greater than ever and more difficult to foresee. The majority of today’s working population is compelled to change jobs often, necessitating retraining, perhaps more than once, in the course of professional life. As a result, the support provided by career advisors during these various transitions should evolve to take into account all areas related to the professional sphere (familial, personal and social) as well as the individual’s situation and development. However, the methods to achieve this remain to be defined. The main aim of this dissertation is to suggest methodological solutions to meet the goals of lifelong guidance. To this end, it proposes constructionist career counseling methods based on the Multistage Investigator of Social Identity (Zavalloni & Louis-Guérin, 1984), which is routinely used in social psychology studies. This method has been adapted for the context of professionals in career transition and computerized as the Multistage Investigator of Social Identity for counseling (MISIc). Its potential was then tested on recipients of an in-depth skills assessment (bilan de compétences approfondi or BCA) as part of a career review. The MISIc allowed a better grasp of the information required for a comprehensive understanding of the issues affecting professionals in retraining. An experimental protocol was then used to evaluate the performance of the MISIc, revealing that its use had an effect on the ability to develop a career plan during a career review. Other objectives were then added to the development of the MISIc, such as the modeling of professional transitions and the evaluation of a career advisor’s methods. During career transitions, events arise in the professional’s environment that can impact their self-concept and their self-esteem in both linear and nonlinear ways. The use of idiographic protocols, combined with time series and verbatim analysis, quantitatively and qualitatively identify factors that impact the development of a career plan. In conclusion, new methods should continue to be developed in order to meet the global and contemporary challenges relating to the adaptation of individuals to their personal and professional situation, with, as a corollary, a dedicated academic field and a well-defined set of professional methods

Testo completoSpousal adjustment issues to host country are a major reason for expatriate assidûment failure and the main focus of our field study. By combining elements of Berry's conceptual framework for the analysis of acculturation attitudes with Ward and colleagues' theorising on cross-cultural adjustment of sojourners, our research examined, among other predictors, host-national and conational identification in relation to sociocultural and psychological adaptation of 96 expatriates spouses. This research highlights, through completed questionnaires and interviews, that our proposed integrative model of research is highly reliable to predict psychological and sociocultural adjustment. Results revealed two main effects. Considering the adaptation process, subjects with strong involvement in the decision making process of expatriation will experience a better psychological adaptation during cross-cultural transitions. In addition, those with a strong hostnational identification will largely experience a better socio-cultural adaptation during their assignment abroad. The effect of identity change is however limited as a large majority of subject chose the separation acculturation strategy, implying a weak identification to the host-national culture and a strong identification to the co-national culture. The investigation makes a useful contribution to theoretical developments in the study of acculturation of a specific group: the french expatriates spouses living abroad. Moreover, the study corroborates the validity and the empirical distinction of psychological and sociocultural adaptation, as acculturation strategies and the predictors of adjustment's domains in the vast and expending literature on acculturation and identity

Testo completoIn recent years, Côte d’Ivoire has seen the emergence of a discourse aimed at raising awareness of entrepreneurship among young people, driven by public policies and disseminated in various ways. This research analyzes, over a four-year period, the implementation of a social and solidarity entrepreneurship education project at an Ivorian university and its effects on participating students. Conducted through an ethnographic approach that centers on the voices of the participants and analyzes their biographical journeys, the thesis highlights the innovative aspects as well as some shortcomings of the project, which prevented its sustainability. It uncovers the misunderstandings that hindered the project's completion, though these could be mitigated with revised roles and institutional reinforcement. Regarding the students, the characterization of their identity transitions throughout the project reveals family and social socializations conducive to entrepreneurial initiative, alongside individual and collective factors stemming from the group dynamics created for the project. At the project's conclusion, the effects on their future trajectories vary in magnitude, ranging from a mere awareness-raising impact to forms of entrepreneurial expertise. These findings, drawn from individual experiences, provide broader insights into the Ivorian social and educational context: our analysis suggests that the practice of social and solidarity entrepreneurship is rooted in sociocultural knowledge that deserves to be unearthed, recognized, and valued for the development of sustainable and adapted educational frameworks. The thesis offers pathways towards educational engineering in entrepreneurship that supports the valorization of both individual and collective pre-existing knowledge

Testo completoProfessional repatriation is a psychosocial transition that has been little studied in the field of career psychology. The data available indicate that after being repatriated, the relationship to the job remains problematic for many people. Upon their return, the stress seems more like a ‘shock of identity’ than a simple ‘cultural shock’ usually described by the literature. How to explain that most repatriates mention greater difficulties for professional adaptation when they return to their country, their culture, their native language, their family, and friends or colleagues that they did when leaving? The present research thesis seeks to enhance our understanding of the psychological processes and the psychosocial dimensions of the professional repatriation transition, focusing in particular on identity and capability dynamics at play among repatriates when they return home. Three studies using quantitative and qualitative methods were conducted with repatriated executives after successful professional expatriation experiences. These studies highlight the importance of the psychosocial transitions of repatriation by taking into account key psychological constructs involved in the entire expatriation-repatriation process, such as the motivations for expatriation, the sentiment of adaptation during expatriation, as well as the perceived conditions, professional self-efficacy, and the repercussions on identity and emotional tone after the return. The approach adopted here found that the professional motivations for expatriation were often based on a desire to learn a new skill or capacity, which the subject tried to showcase upon his/her return. Thus, the identity tensions experienced were greater the more the individual perceived a significant difference with his/her return environment, while they had expected the contrary that expatriation would provide a better fit. The research results provide some suggestions for career counselling to support people in international mobility throughout their experience of expatriation-repatriation

Testo completoErasmus post-apprentices studyIn speeches and actions of the European and French authorities, mobility of apprentices is promoted as a major economic and political issue. It would promote (it would develop) the development of intercultural and professional skills with a view to longlife training and integration into the European labor market. It’s strongly linked to the employment patterns of the next few years with “agility” and “plasticity” as key skills. If he is mobile and aware of the issues of his mobility, he would be able to develop a form of “self-entepreneurship” in a changing and uncertain world. Trained by mobility, he would fit to the expectations of a globalized economy. However, this equation is not evident. The experience of the apprentices’ mobility and the apprenticeships they have learned remain poorly known. This thesis analyzes the mobility of apprentices as a space of biographical transition and identity reconfiguration. It considers that mobility is a double movement: in time and space. It fits into life stories in interactionist perspective. It is theoretically appealing to the notion of modernity, to socialization and experiences a frame of proof, to constructions of identity and to the concept of transition. In order to grasp this new experience from the point of view of those who live it, research mobilizes a qualitative survey (etude au lieu de dispositive) based on interviews and drawings. The sample survey is composed of “post apprentices” that have lived a six-months-mobility. The drawings represented the places they lived in during their mobility. Different profiles appear according to the continuity-rupture movements which are exploited with the trade, the mobility or the formation. For all, however, mobility is a training period. Mobility is a space for self-learning and reconfiguration. This highlighting of the world’s report reconfiguration, and also of a new self-report, offers new perspectives for thinking about the accompaniment of mobility devices

Testo completoThis empirical-inductive research study examines the recognition of the experience of nursing assistants in nursing education by tutors/trainers. It also examines the role of this recognition on certain atypical behaviours observed when learning a new profession. First, the questionnaires and semi-structured exploratory interviews, which were treated qualitatively and quantitatively, revealed discrepancies between the verbatim of the trainers and those of the former caretaker students regarding their experience. To understand them, the notion of experience as a constituent of the adult's identity is mobilized; then, the theoretical framework of identity dynamics made it possible to study the identity strategies potentially put in place in the face of this triple context of transition both of profession, resumption of studies, and also of alternating training. Theoretical insights allow us to hypothesize that the variable recognition of the experience of former caregivers in nursing education by tutors/trainers can explain certain behaviours, called "atypical critical incidents", by interpreting them as identity strategies. The central investigation verifies the variable recognition of students' experience by tutors/trainers. This variability can be seen between the actors involved in training, but also between the different public health institutions investigated. Finally, the modelling study of 36 atypical critical incidents shows that, faced with the gaps between the "for oneself" experience and the recognition of the experience by others, visible identity strategies are then put in place by the former caregiver students in order to restore identity coherence. Moreover, when the positive self-image is threatened, other identity strategies aiming at recognizing others are deployed by all students; invisible, and sometimes dangerous, they represent a praxéological opportunity

Testo completoThis thesis is based on thinking around the unprecedented action of the Maid of Orléans which created the Joan of Arc matrix. In order to understand this intriguing and singular specificity, we hypothesise that the major changes operated in and by the anomaly of the Maid of Orléans can be explained by the adolescent process, the work of a creating adolescent. She is emblematic of the adolescent who finds themselves developing outside of the social framework of adolescence. The language of her transgressive verbal and behavioural actions, which can be viewed as phallic-narcissistic, express a masculine femininity in which a combination of identifications and ideals passed on by the parent figures are coalesced and reworked. In a pubescent context, we hypothesis that the voices heard by Joan of Arc are not a sign of psychosis but a sort of double of herself, a transitional intermediary, opening up the development of a relationship with herself and with others; a form of support which authorises and stimulates the creation of a self that is both original and disturbing in medieval times. In the XIXth century, Republicans and Nationalists, building a new France, on new foundations, established an ideological position through national storytelling which used Joan of Arc's heroic function to further patriotic idealism. A prototype of the patriotic hero, she was to be used as a support and vector of heroic identification and shared ideals. The identification-identity-ideal nexus is deployed in both the individual and the collective: it helps to understand the identity issues, to respond to the individual's need for identity and the desire to repair the trauma and damage inflicted

Testo completoThis research focuses on identity transformation effects of technicians acting as engineers and candidates to Cnam’s degree outside study preparation agenda. During this training program, the subject is expected to draft a text into an academic format linked to a professional project. The analysis of the links which can be established between this text and the professional transition operated by the subject contributes to grasp some mechanisms of the professional developement. The aim of the study is to understand the relationships between the speech held by the writers during the writing process and the revealing moments of their professional identity transition. The hypothesis is related to these revealing moments which proceed of a mutual fertilization between verbalizations on the writing process and on the text itself. The main theoretical framework is the professional development of these subjects and how they feel their professional identity (Wittorski, 2008) and the enunciative identity (Guibert, 2007) : a multidimensional system of representations : those of writer identity (self-images as writing), those of the written document to be produced (images of the prescribed text) and those of recipients of the text (images of others for oneself on oneself). The observations are realized by means of comprehensive interviews in a phenomenological dimension (Haas & Masson, 2006 ; Matthey, 2005) about writing process. The chosen methodology leans on a qualitative approach crossing a thematic analysis of contents (Bardin, 2007) and an analysis of the enunciation (Charaudeau, 2010 ; Kerbrat-Orecchioni, 2006). The first approach is completed by a quantitative method with the Iramuteq software. The resulting data allows to identify moments of tension concerning terms of resolution and specific objects

Testo completoAbstract The professional transition of ex-full time unionists, defined as activists working full time for the union, is a complex issue as it affects the individual, the union and the host company. In order to understand this subject, the mobilized literature offers analytical frameworks focusing on internal problems of the union, the reasons for the initial commitment, the role of the emotional residue in the construction of identity, and the way in which an individual can value his experience. The operationalization of this research was carried out in the form of interviews with ex-full time unionists and full time activists for their professional transition by a longitudinal follow-up. Wishing to identify the specificities of the French trade unionism, American activists were questioned. A triangulation of the data has also been sought from Human Resources Directors, managers, trade unions, full time unionists who were not in professional transition and a company specialized in the support of ex-full time unionists. Our results underlines the French specificities of trade union commitment (personal and professional domains). Internal difficulties in the trade union and the behaviour of the ex-full time unionist led him to leave. This departure implies a persistent strong emotion (the emotion residue) which has a key role in the identity work and the mindset of the individual. Finally, union experience could be integrated differently in the career, depending on the individual

Testo completoThis research consists of three studies. The first study is qualitative. It highlights the cultural transition within the La Poste Group during the last decade. The effects of the gradual integration of a market culture are investigated through the speeches of executives, supervisors and postmen. The transformation of the corporate culture is highlighted as well as its impact on the work, the axiological dimension and the employees’ health. The second study transposes into the field of the organization of identity integration’s models. These models, usually associated with health, are often used to put into perspective the acculturative process of migrants with psychological health’s dimensions. Thus, the acculturation model (Berry, 1990), the bi-cultural integration model (Benet-Martinez & Haritatos, 2005) and the cognitive developmental model of social identities’ integration (Amiot et al. 2007 ) may explain, partly, the well-being and the psychological distress at work as well as the absenteeism of employees of La Poste Group. A section of the study focuses to explain the different identifications through identity motivations, perceived threat and values. These three dimensions play a major role in the cultural integration of employees. At last, a final study using methods of implicit assessment is performed in order to update potential cognitive dissonance which could affect the health of individuals. It measures significant differences between the implicit identification and self-declared identification. This study shows contrasting results that won’t hold because the effectiveness of the manipulation has not been proven. However, some indicators urge to continue research in this direction
Pingitore, Gavin Viviane. "Charles Dickens, un auteur de transition à la croisée du gothique et du policier". Thesis, Bordeaux 3, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018BOR30051/document.
Testo completoIn order to investigate the transition from the Gothic genre to the detective fiction in Charles Dickens's works, our study will first concentrate on the Victorian social context that led to the collision of two literary genres, the Gothic and the detective fiction. We will define Dickensian Gothic. Actually, Dickens stages a twofold familiar universe. One universe belongs to the past – a real world that is well known to the readers. The second universe shows an insertion in literary history of an intertextual fabric – described as typical and easily shared by his readers. We will then deal with the effects of this violent collision upon the characters' memories and will define the expression of trauma in Dickens's fiction. Trauma primarily rests upon identity confusion. It originates from a sense of failure of identity belonging together with a sense of loss of society bearings that Dickens's characters experience and thought to be immutable. Finally, we will show how Gothic and Detective fictions interact in Dickens's fiction. We will analyse the societal elements that explain this almost against nature meeting for we could assume that the rational explanation that comes at the end of the detective novel should solve the Gothic tensions. But in fact, the solving of the inquests doesn't free the fiction from a Gothic aftermath. We will then study the transfer of powers from lawyers to detective police officers. This transfer of powers is noticeable both in Victorian society and the Dickensian text. We will then conclude with the persistence of Gothic in Dickens's fiction that makes detective police officers some sort of antiquarians of a new genre

Testo completoThe aim of this thesis is to put into perspective the national approaches to youth employment and training by comparing the higher education system and the professional transition of students in France and South Korea. The educational contexts of the two countries show certain common characteristics concerning the educational hierarchy of the study program and the influence of the degree on the first job, while there are differences in terms of access to higher education : the French education system characterized by early specialization, and the Korean education system represented by the standardized tests. In this context, we conducted a qualitative study to understand the role of student internships in their career choices and professional identities, as well as the implicit relationship of this process with social determinism or opportunities for choice through education. Our empirical research adopted a biographical method describing internship experiences from semi-structured interviews conducted with 21 French and Korean students. According to the results of analysis, students' satisfaction with their internship and their perspective for professional career paths are closely linked to their educational path in the two countries compared. On the other hand, French students and Korean students show different attitudes towards professional choices and psychosocial processes that constitute their professional projects. By highlighting the reality and the choices of students in relation to the question of being and doing in their working life, our analysis suggests that higher education needs to focus more on the transferable skills and adaptability of students in the rapidly changing labor market, without restricting them to rigid education systems and fixed functions

Testo completoThe teaching function has different realities depending on the context of the trade. This may include teaching full time in the initial stages (primary and secondary) or training of future professionals by alternance training methods(CFA, MFR), situations that involve very different professional practices and identities for those in charge. Because of this very variability in training situations, people who are engaged in the teaching function may be faced with professional prescriptions that are far removed from the job they had planned to perform when they mobilized to enter the trade. It is precisely this gap between the occupation of instructor concerned and the one actually occupied that will be discussed in this work.In particular, we will be interviewing modes of engagement in the trade and identity transitions of trainers practising alternance training, working in “Maisons Familiales Rurales” (MFR) after failing National Education recruitment competitions. Recruited in a somewhat incidental way in MFR, the pedagogical prescriptions to which they are subjected are quite distant from those which they anticipated and had internalized for their recruitment by National Education: they share with the teachers of the traineeship the work of training, they accompany the learners in a process of knowledge production, they are not limited to the teaching of a discipline of which they would be experts, for example. Confrontation with a form of education that deviates from that anticipated creates a dissonance all the more important because it is first the consequence of failure and then of a constrained reorientation. This dissonance between the occupation concerned and the occupation actually prescribed is likely to be a source of discomfort. This thesis analyses the vocational positions that trainers by alternance training value to resolve this dissonance, in order to build themselves a subjectively satisfactory professional identity. Studying investment patterns in the MFR instructor trade (preferred practices, professional postures adopted), she intends to report on the identity strategies implemented in the context of relatively plastic organisational structures

Testo completoThere is a dearth of research on the patterns of newcomers’ identity transitions during socialization. The aim of this research is to develop and test a model that integrates the organizational, social, and personal factors of socialization, explores the role of identification as a mediating mechanism, and investigates boundary conditions such as identity conflict and emotions. In order to test our model, we conducted two studies. First, we collected multiwave data from 423 French newcomers during their first seven months of employment. Our four-wave results show that organizational identification mediates the impact of socialization factors on newcomers’ adjustment. Second, we focus on the initial level of organizational identification upon organizational entry through the measure of daily situated identification among 49 young graduates during their first ten days of their internship. We collected 490 observations via a daily diary study with ten repeat measurements. The results of diary showed that participants with daily identity conflict and low positive affectivity were more identified. The social support would have a buffering effect on identity conflict for participants with low positive affectivity. This research contributes to a better understanding of identity dynamics in the context of young graduates’socialization. It emphasizes, on the one hand, the importance of identity mechanisms to explain the specific issues of socialization, such as social integration, and on the other hand, their low impact on the task mastery. The theorical and empirical implications for these findings are discussed

Testo completoMy research uses the tools of sociology, social history and ethnography. It treats the consequences of postcommunist deindustrialization through the study of the population of Hétes, an ethnic ghetto, inhabited currantly by 400 Hungarian Roma (Gypsies), who where formally workers in the mettalurgy factory. Hétes is a former workers' colony in the city of Ózd. The city is renowned for its metallurgy complex wich functioned for 150 years until its dismantlement in 1991. The goal of my research is to understand the dynamics of the identitary transformations and the mechanisms of socioeconomic and cultural adaptation deployed by the Hétes Roma population. This community was once integrated by the comprehensive social security guaranteed under state socialism through salaried work and has been marginalized since the liberalization of the job market. A critical analysis of historical sources and of recorded life stories of the residents of Hétes, ans direct observation of their economic practices have allowed us to determine that their identity has undergone profound changes : manifold during the period of salaried work its monolithization was accompanied by an interior colonization that remains hidden

Testo completoAs Burundi begins a key phase in national reconciliation, the vast work of collective memory initiated by the Arusha Peace Accords in August 2000 offers an opportunity to the US to penetrate and strategically position them in the Great Lakes’ Region Peacebuilding. A mistake would be to see such U.S. involvement in the East Africa Community as a recent phenomenon. Since the postcolonial era until the current phase of reconciliation mechanisms and genocide prevention, the American visibility in African politics goes back in time as its missionary activities prove it. Many studies explored the question on geopolitical relations between former colonial countries and colonial powers in sub-Sahara Africa. Yet, few pointed out the relevance or the deep religious relationships and their influence in sociopolitical events in East African countries such as Burundi or Rwanda. To explain the U.S. Foreign Policy linking it to its religious investment in the Great Lake prevents a misleading simplification of U.S. interests. Our study of the role of American missions and their complex relations with Christian missions of former colonial powers offers us a new look at the U.S. political dynamics in the Great Lakes’ Region in East Africa. The challenge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission provides a unique political and religious space for a study of these different religious actors. The use of the transitional justice in Burundi underlines not only the confrontation of processes of justice and forgiveness in post-conflict periods, but it underlines the difficult negotiation of collective memories along with geopolitical interests
