This paper examines learners’ transition from Setswana in Standard One to English at Standard Two in line with the implementation of the language-in-education policy in selected Botswana primary schools. Using data from classroom observations, open ended questionnaires and interviews, this paper scrutinizes the effectiveness of such transition especially where learners do not speak both languages of instruction. The transitional education model is used as a theoretical framework for this paper to better understand how transition could be done from one language to another. The findings of this study indicate that transition from Setswana medium of instruction to English medium is taken for granted and is overlooked by key agents of the policy and supervisors and therefore it is not monitored and supervised. The conclusion is that the period of transition is critical and sensitive. As a result, teachers and supervisors; both internal and external should have the necessary delivery skills and support to enable them to go through that critical period with less anxiety.

The article discusses the onomastic conversion (lexical-semantic method) - a nominal, i.e. functional transfer of words is a common phenomenon in the language, in which the transfer of a lexeme from one-word group to another word group, the transition of appellate lexicon to a noun without any constructive means. In language, the transition of words from one category to another is uninterrupted, because word groups themselves are not a phenomenon with a fixed boundary, as a result of the constant movement of language, words tend to move towards one lexical-grammatical category and perform their function. Language development occurs through events such as derivation, transformation, transposition, and conversion.

The hierarchical network model is the most preferable in the design of computer networks, as it allows you to create a more stable structure of network, rationally allocate available resources, and also provide a higher degree of data protection. In this work, the study of the behavior of the traffic during the transition from one level of the network hierarchy to another, based on the study of the values of the traffic self-similarity degree during this transition. For the study, a simulation model of a computer network with a hierarchical topology was developed using the NS-3 simulator. Also, a window application was developed in the Visual C# programming language. With the help of this application the degree of self-similarity of the traffic was investigated using the files obtained as a result of processing the trace file. Thus, as a result of the study, it can be stated that any changes in the degree of self-similarity of the network traffic when this traffic moves from one level of the hierarchy to another level depends on such a condition as the direction of traffic movement. The initial degree of selfsimilarity of network traffic also effects on the network traffic self-similarity degree.

This paper explores the phenomenon that pro-adverbs of manner are cross-linguistically used to mark transitions from one activity to another. In Estonian, the pro-adverb nii is used for this purpose. Among Estonian refugees in Sweden, an activity transition is frequently marked with soo. Both nii and soo originally had the same semantic meaning ‘like this/that, in this way, so’, even though soo merely in its source language German. The article argues that the deictic pro-adverbs of manner are especially suitable for the task of marking activity transitions because they can be applied at the boundaries of verbal as well as non-verbal activities. The reason for the existence of this pattern seems to lie in the general necessity in human interaction to jointly move from one activity to another and the exophoric deictic capacity of pro-adverbs. The study explores audio- and video-recorded examples with regard to the sequencing of social actions accomplished by the participants in the verbal as well as the bodily domain.

In his capital work Eléments de syntaxe structurale (1959) Lucien Tesnière introduces the concept of metataxis, structural change occurring during the transition from one language to another. While focusing on structural relationships that are built upon this passage, the author highlights the need to rethink the phrase in the target language. Departing from a purely mechanical perspective, Tesnière paves the way for contrastive analysis, but also for cognitive theories, referring to the concepts of traductions profondes and of the independence of structure and meaning.However, the action-oriented approach presupposes a dynamic process of learning / teaching that places the learner at the center and takes into account all the abilities of this “social actor”. In that way the CEFR opens the individual and social dimensions of mediation (Piccardo 2012), which is one of the key concepts of the action-oriented approach.In this paper we outline the conceptual foundations of metataxis and linguistic mediation and then examine the role of translation as the basic operation for the transition from one language to another, specifically in the learner-centred action-oriented approach. We rethink the concept of translation, taking into account its mechanical and structural aspects as well as its individual and social dimensions, which offers many opportunities for language and culture learning. The linguistic structure is considered as an essential component of linguistic mediation.

Introduction. This paper reports the results of a study concerning the views and the expectations of primary teachers for the transition from kindergarten to primary school. 
 Goal. In a recently new educational environment, in which all educators “forced” to continue their educational practices as to ensure for their students a smooth transition from one level to another, two transitions processes implemented. The first one concerns the move from in-person to virtual delivery of the language classroom and the second one concern the preschoolers’ transition from kindergarten to primary school.
 Methods of the Research. In this context, 16 Greek first grade primary school teachers' views about their (previous preschoolers) students' literacy development and elements of literacy knowledge after remote teaching (in a preschool setting) were collected with semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. 
 The Results. The results showed that support for the transition of young children from preschool to primary school settings and literacy development was inevitably affected into this new educational environment. Therefore, teachers propose the continuity between early childhood and primary school literacy programmes as the key for a smoother transition. Based on evaluations of experiences, a smooth transition and continuity from one level to another could be also facilitated and intermediated by collaboration of preschool and primary school teachers and other stakeholders. Furthermore, discontinuities in early childhood literacy education and development could be disappeared if policy makers try to bridge and sculpt “distances” via effective transition programmes. 
 Conclusions. The knowledge of current practice, priorities, challenges, and opportunities will help language educators to adjust their education offer, their syllabi, expectations, or pedagogical approaches to facilitate a more positive and smooth transition process for each and every learner.

Adaptations, currently the best-known example of intersemiotic translation, more often than not are addressed in the disingenuous terms of ‘fidelity,’ ‘parasitism,’ or ‘solipsism.’ Although it seems a truism that adaptations adapt a ‘text’ from one discursive field to another, such a straightforward causality conflicts with the notion of ‘discursive field’ in which it is wont to occur. Moreover, the adaptation presented as adaptation loses its referential effect when the receiver is unacquainted with the material transposed. Together both issues — i.e. linearity and referentiality — in fact account for most of the misconceptions about the paradoxical phenomenon that is adaptation. This essay therefore proposes a semiological argument aimed at providing a better understanding of the discursive mechanisms at work in adaptational practice.

The paper deals with the failed attempt of the Republic of Azerbaijan to introduce an additional Latin-based alphabet for the Lezgian language, which has been using the Cyrillic script since the late 30s of the 20th century to the present day. It provides a brief history of Lezgian script from ancient times to the present day, analyzes the current state and condition of Lezgian being spoken on the territory corresponding to its historical base – the Republic of Dagestan (Russia) and the Republic of Azerbaijan – and establishes its status as a minority and vulnerable language. With reference to the Latin-based alphabet of Lezgian which was in use from 1928 to 1938 and apparently has been offered as such in the Republic of Azerbaijan, linguistic disadvantages of the possible transition of Lezgian alphabet to the Latin script are revealed. The example of Lezgian suggests that an attempt by the state to provide a language which is recognized as a minority and, to some extent, even minorized language in it with an extra alphabet, as well as the lack of it at all, can be regarded as a real threat to the very existence of the language. The author concludes that despite the fact that there are a few other examples of biscriptalism represented by majority and official languages, to the development and existence of which the simultaneous use of another script in another country poses no threat, in case of Lezgian the biscriptalism could have a destructive impact on its development and cause social risks such as the loss of ethnic and cultural identity of Lezgian speakers, the division of the Lezgi people into two separate groups totally devoid of ethnic consciousness and their subsequent irreversible assimilation.

In this article, interference is defined as the incorrect and mostly unconscious transfer of linguistic features from one language to another by bilingual speakers (namely Albanians during the democratic transition period), caused by the mutual impact of both languages (German and Albanian). The aim of the present article is to make an exhaustive list of the interference occurrences at the phonetic and phonological level among bilingual Albanians during the transition period, to describe them and draw appropriate conclusions about such linguistic phenomena. The present study draws on important scientific findings as well as the collected data of an empirical study on Albanian-German bilingualism (including a questionnaire and corresponding interviews). According to the interviews carried out, this fact is put down to the Albanian language level of the test subjects which indicates that even those who pretend to be bilingual speakers cannot completely differentiate between the two language systems (Albanian and German). Phonetic and phonological interferences have often been noticeable among the German-speaking Albanians: Probably this might be caused by the significant difference in nature between the German and the Albanian language.

The article considers the influence of dialectal layer of the languages by means of incorporating vernaculars into the lexical system of the literary language. It is stated that substandard verbs most frequently get the status of colloquial verbs due to their expressive semantic content or to their wider area of usage. The material for the analysis was 24 substandard verbal lexemes recorded in the explanatory and dialectal dictionaries of the Russian language and found in the speech of native speakers of the literary language. Data on the use of these units were obtained from recordings of the speech of residents of Perm and cities of Perm Krai (the total duration of the audio is about 30 hours). The research is based on the description of the semantic and functional-stylistic potential of vernacular vocabulary. The dynamics of stylistic characteristics of a word is described on the basis of the data recorded in lexicographic publications of different years. It is shown that the transition of words from one subsystem of the Russian language to another is a natural and logical process that contributes to the enrichment of the vocabulary of the Russian language. It has been confirmed that vernacular is a transitional space between dialects and literary language.

Linguists are increasingly turning to approaches that say that language has no phonology per se, but one should speak about the phonology of speech production, speech perception and language acquisition. The same applies to morphology, syntax and smaller structures in the general architectonics of language/speech grammar. Nowadays, there is no descriptionof grammar/phonology that would illustrate this logic. In the most general way, these approaches can be designated as behavioristic. It is argued here that oblivion of the principles of classical linguistics results in contradictions, unsolvable theoretical problems and delusions. Appeal to phonetics in the narrow sense of the term is unavoidable in modeling speech production, when reproducing from the “meaning to text” transition. The meaning is obviously immaterial, but the same cannot be said about the text. Another transition that in recent years began to be dealt with in linguistic literature on a par with Lev Shcherba’s “aspects”, is “text to language system”. The point of departure here is not easy to define, especially in the case of a natural speech. Two solutions are possible, one based on Chomsky’s postulation of the innate character of language, the other admitting a kind of recursive mechanism capable of “self-expanding” as a result of an infinite number of iterations. As a solution, a combination of two levels may be proposed, prehonological and phonological (resp. semantic and presemantic) which will be resonsible for both transitions.

The purpose of this study was to establish whether teachers were adequately prepared to transition learners from Zambian language literacy to English literacy in Grade three in Livingstone district. In line with this, it sought to establish the methods the teachers were using in teaching English literacy in Grade three and establish the challenges faced by teachers in managing the transition from Zambian language literacy to English literacy in Grade three. The study employed a mixed method descriptive design which involved both quantitative and qualitative methods. Data was collected using questionnaires, lesson observations, interviews and document analysis. A random selection and a purposive sampling were used to select respondents for the study. The study found that the teachers were not adequately trained during in-set programmers such as workshops, Continuous Professional Developments and TGMs.. Another finding was that the teacher’s attitude to the introduction of English in grade three differed. Some felt that English should be introduced in grade one, while others felt that it should be delayed at least up to grade four or five. Lack of funding at the school level to organize the school inset programs was another issue revealed in the study. it is recommended that the Ministry of Education (MOE) should introduce English literacy courses in colleges, specifically for the transition. It is also recommended that the MOE should provide Grade three English literacy materials and fund in-set programs in schools.

The current study examines pre-modern and modern Japanese texts from the seventh ~ twentieth century, and documents the semantic and pragmatic change of ni-marked NPs, which include “dative subjects” and NPs which appear to refer to human referents. The data demonstrates that what are called “dative subjects” in modern Japanese are diachronically and synchronically related to the most prototypical meaning/usage of ni-marked NPs as a spatial framework. The original function underwent changes from more propositional to more subjective usages — from its most basic usage, indicating stative locations, to its metonymic usage, marking locations where individuals worthy of respect reside so as to avoid their explicit mention, and finally to its extended usage, indicating human referents. This extended usage further developed into a subjective framework for propositions in contemporary Japanese novels written in the first person perspective. This shift from propositional to expressive/subjective usages is not binary, but rather continual, and the transition from one usage to another involves each new usage coexisting with the prior ones.

The semantics of local cases in the framework of the theory of cognitive linguistics has got an internal organization in the form of a matrix of cognitive domains, wherein each of them demonstrates the schematization of the choice of some concrete situation. The zones of its crossing indicate on the parts of the transition from one domain to another. Partial usages of cases belonging to transitional parts are peripheral in respect to prototypical ones. Space has got the central place in the matrix of cognitive domains being the basic cognitive field for all local cases. Anyway, all the other cognitive domains are somehow connected with space having got more or less similarity with it. I’m trying to perform a matrix of cognitive domains for spatial cases of the Komi language analogically with the analysis of cognitive domains of external local cases in the Estonian language (see Vainik 1995).

The article deals with the artistic originality of bilingualism of one of the leading modern Mordovian playwrights Alexander Pudin. The most productive types of it in the work of the playwright are defined, and the reasons for the use of two languages in the writing process are identified. The importance of the transition from one language to another is emphasized in order to expand the aesthetic boundaries of the author’s worldview and to accurately convey ethnic nuances to the foreign-language reader and viewer. The author reveals the artistic and aesthetic specificity of the author’s translation, which allowed to reveal more deeply both the conflict collisions of plays and the individual characters of carriers of national character traits. A special place is given to plays in Russian, in which the playwright immerses us in a diverse ethnic palette of perception of the surrounding reality and recreates a bright national flavor through mythological context.

This article demonstrates that translation patronage can shift imperceptibly between being undifferentiated and differentiated. It focuses on the passage of time as a factor that could be added to Lefevere’s conceptualization of patronage. Currently this conceptualization approaches history as a series of snapshots, with little focus on transition, most importantly, between one form of patronage and another. With an overview of the development of translation patronage in early modern Japanese history, this article explores the dynamics of translation patronage over a period of well over two centuries, when the country maintained a policy of national isolationism. Under this policy, Christianity became absolutely taboo, and those associated with it were regarded with utmost suspicion. Yet, limited international trade was permitted to continue by a state-owned collegium of interpreters. Under this system, the patronage of translators in Japan was extremely undifferentiated, being obtained solely from governmental sources. However, before the end of this system, patronage had already shifted to a differentiated model, in which translation services were being sought by a wide range of parties beyond the government.

Once a programmer knows one language, they can leverage concepts and knowledge already learned, and easily pick up another programming language. But is that always the case? To understand if programmers have difficulty learning additional programming languages, we conducted an empirical study of Stack Overflow questions across 18 different programming languages. We hypothesized that previous knowledge could potentially interfere with learning a new programming language. From our inspection of 450 Stack Overflow questions, we found 276 instances of interference that occurred due to faulty assumptions originating from knowledge about a different language. To understand why these difficulties occurred, we conducted semistructured interviews with 16 professional programmers. The interviews revealed that programmers make failed attempts to relate a new programming language with what they already know. Our findings inform design implications for technical authors, toolsmiths, and language designers, such as designing documentation and automated tools that reduce interference, anticipating uncommon language transitions during language design, and welcoming programmers not just into a language, but its entire ecosystem.

Kazakhstan has adopted the idea of inclusive education. The country has embarked on transforming its education at all levels of schooling to reflect the ethos of equity and inclusion. Tremendous success has been registered so far; however, the language used in the realm of its special/inclusive education has not changed much, as it still bears the hallmarks of the past Soviet vocabulary. Therefore, this article provides an analytic perspective on exclusive terminology and vocabulary still being used, which in one way or another perpetuates misconceptions and stereotypes about diversity and difference. The researcher of this study interviewed school principals, teachers, professionals, and parents in 12 inclusive schools. Reviewed literature includes Kazakhstani education policies, research papers, and speeches delivered by education administrators, politicians, educationists, and experts in the field of special/inclusive education. The implications of the use of language and terminology are discussed in the context of transforming education toward an inclusive education system. Lessons are drawn from the empirical study and literature review, thus making recommendations on how to move forward with the language and terminology change process within the emerging discourse of inclusive education in Kazakhstan.

Abstract There has been consistent interest in discourse makers over the past couple of decades, and various proposals have been put forth regarding their functions. The present paper analyzes discourse markers in general as indicators of types of connectedness between expositive illocutionary acts (Austin [1962]1975), which bring about illocutionary effects in discourse. The discourse marker well in particular indicates a gap between the preceding expositive illocutionary act and the present one, signaling the present expositive illocutionary act is of a non-committal type. This gap is analyzed, depending on the types of the preceding and present expositive illocutionary acts, as divergence, hesitancy, a transition from one expositive illocutionary act to another, or a boundary between them.

The state of mass multilingualism has been developed now in many countries of the world, and not only in post-colonial ones. Depending on the situation, most contemporaries use (actively or passively) two or three languages. The norm today is not monolingualism, but multilingualism. At the same time many societies are characterized by bilingualism not balanced, but vertical — diglossia. Since few people speak several languages equally well, the need to use them interchangeably requires additional effort and causes mental fatigue. The state of monolingualism is more usual and comfortable for a person. Language situations in society also favor the use of predominantly one language at the expense of others. Therefore, diglossia cannot last forever. Those sociolinguists are right who regard it as a temporary condition, an intermediate stage in the transition «primary monolingualism → bilingualism → secondary monolingualism». Such a transition is an inevitable consequence of the victory of a communicatively strong language over a communicatively weak one. If we evaluate the interaction of languages from a functional point of view, it should be recognized that their essence boils down to competition. It arises due to the fact that languages are not distributed once and for all in certain areas, are not ultimately tied to a certain circle of speakers. Languages always rise at the expense of the decline of other ones. If a language expands its area of use, it means that another language leaves this area, and therefore reduces the scope of its use. Of the two competing languages, the winner is the one with the greatest communicative power. The phenomenon when a language ceases to be used in a certain communicative sphere, it is appropriate to denote by the term loss of functionality. A language that does not fulfill all the functions that should be performed by a developed literary language should be recognized as incompletely functional. The current spread of English as a single world language, its dominance in the most prestigious spheres of communication (politics, economics, trade, science, education, culture, the Internet) leads to the fact that national languages are gradually displaced from these spheres, marginalized and eventually devalued. The process can become irreversible and lead to their complete decline as functionally weak. Even those languages that also claim to be global (French, Spanish) or interstate (German, Portuguese, Russian) are losing the competition. As a result of competition, languages begin to differ in the richness of their vocabulary, the elaboration of their syntactic structure, the development of the style system, their prevalence, and their social status. But the main result is functional inequality. A language that has a large communicative load is used in a larger number of areas (or in prestigious areas) and turns out to be functionally dominant. The one that exists in fewer spheres or is used with less intensity turns out to be functionally incomplete. As a result, it turns out to be unable to satisfy all the information needs of its speakers — they are forced to resort to languages with greater communicative power.

After 'intercultural' and 'multiculturai', we introduce the term 'transcultural' in relation to language education. In our opinion, this term is understood to mean a type of education in which, by means of exchanging culturally different experiences, the culturally biased frame of reference of the language learner contributes to the formation of new concepts. In this way, the classroom becomes a breeding ground for a 'third culture' (Kramsch, 1993), in addition to the first culture of the learner and the second culture associated with the language being learned. Transcultural education, in our view, is the ultimate implementation of intercultural education. In the context of second language learning, the term 'transcultural' has an additional meaning: most of the students find themselves in the transition from one culture to another. In our paper, we develop these two meanings of 'transculturaP as relating to the teaching and learning of Dutch as a second language. Starting from a theoretical framework, we end up with suggestions for application in the language classroom.

Former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev brought alphabet reform to the forefront of public discussion in Kazakhstan when he announced the transition of the Kazakh language from the Cyrillic alphabet to the Latin alphabet in 2017. Since then, many conversations have taken place across Kazakhstan pondering the necessity of the reform, the best way to implement it, and how to minimize social and financial damage that could possibly be caused by the transition. Context surrounding the background of the reform and alphabet choice is important, and raises questions of identity within Kazakh society. The primary purpose of this article is to present a selection of qualitative and quantitative results from a survey conducted among seventy-five Kazakh speakers and Kazakhstanis. The goal of the survey was to identify their perspectives regarding the reform in the areas of public opinion, education, politics, and linguistics. Knowing how academics and the public perceive the reform allows adjustments to be made which may ease the transition from one alphabet to another.

Abstract The article explores evidence of public policy ignoring scholarly recommendations, and describes instances of this in the field of language policy at both supranational and national levels. One significant contemporary influence is that university autonomy and academic freedom are being constrained by neoliberal pressures. Evidence of this in the United Kingdom and Denmark is described. These trends are connected to the wider context of the transition from the practices and ideology of terra nullius to legitimate colonisation and global Europeanisation, and the concomitant dispossession of the territories of others, to global Americanisation processes, the universalization of a cultura nullius in commerce, the media, academia, and domestic life. This dovetails with the promotion and establishment of English as a lingua nullius, a language that should be learned by all worldwide, as if it serves the interests of all inhabitants of the globe, and is disconnected from the causal factors behind the expansion of the language. One speech by Winston Churchill argues for the maintenance of university autonomy and historical awareness. Another pleads for Anglo-American global dominance, including the promotion of English as a ‘world’ language. These competing pleas have had different outcomes: academic freedom and traditions are currently at risk, whereas US dominance and the promotion and expansion of English have thrived. The governments of the five Nordic countries have acted to ensure the maintenance of national languages as well as competence in ‘international languages’. This is exemplified by a description of how universities should assure parallel competence and thereby a healthy balance between English and national languages. Soft power is never far from economic, political, and military power, all of which entail language use. China and Chinese are well launched on a comparable trajectory to the expansion of English.

It is worthwhile noting that blockchain technology is important for the future of humanity, because it allows people to build trust. Trust will be built in every area in the finances, real estate, healthcare, business and other life areas of society. Owing to the great prospects for the development of this technology, the attention of linguists is attracted by the fact of the appearance of lexical formatives connected with blockchain. First of all, loanwords are the transition of elements of one language to another as a result of the interaction of languages, or the elements themselves transferred from one language to another. Due to the fact that works about the blockchain initially appeared in English, the lexical units of this topic came to Chinese from English. We provide a classification and also determine the most common ways of loanwords from English to Chinese in blockchain. The relevance of study is determined by the lack of knowledge of English loanwords in Chinese in the field of blockchain. When training specialists in translation, the topic of blockchain remains understudied, due to the difficulties in translation terminology. Thus, studying loanwords can improve the skills of translators, help them avoid mistakes when translating from English to Chinese and vice versa.

In connection with the deepening globalization processes and the interaction of scientists from different countries, the linguistic terminology systems of modern Slavic languages in the second half of the XX and at the beginning of the XXI century have been enlarged with new special units, which causes quantitative and qualitative changes in their composition, interest in the problems of the origin, formation and dynamics of this terminology system. The purpose of the study is to establish the regularity of the terminological nomination of linguistic concepts in the Middle and Modern Polish periods (XVI century – 1939). Taking into account the internal and external linguistic factors that influenced the formation and functioning of linguistics terminology in the Polish language, the basic methods of term formation (semantic, morphological, syntactic) are analyzed, confirming, on the one hand, the connection with the common language, and on the other hand, the uniqueness and specificity of the subject linguistic terminology corpus. The consolidation of a special nomination in Polish linguistic terminology at different chronological sections took place in stages. The transition of special words from one category to another (preterms → quasi-terms → terms) displays a system of complex changes in the branched term system of the subject area of linguistics.

The paper looks into the emergence of terms and neologisms related to COVID-19 outbreak, which are treated as lexical quantors (LQs). A LQ, as a linguistic nominative unit, reflects the amount of language knowledge (LK) represented in a certain segment of language worldview (LWV). It is represented by a word or a phrase, which constitutes some quantum of information to designate a certain segment of LWV. It has a systemic character and is reflected in the semantics of a linguistic unit. This research is aimed at exploring COVID-19 lexical quantors both in terminological and general vocabulary aspects and it defines the major language concepts for special purposes (LSP). It is characterized by the word formation means expressing all types of LK with the prevalence of a denotative special meaning. General COVID-19 lexical units employ all word formation means to render both denotative and connotative components of LQs meanings revealing also social, cultural, and axiological aspects of LK. The boundary between COVID-19 terminology and general lexical units is quite blurred when the transition from one layer of vocabulary to another is observed. Word formation is viewed as the process of constructing LQs in terms of aggregated, condensed and modified knowledge means. In conclusion, the informative potential realization of LQ is manifested in various discursive practices, namely: media, politics, and public service announcements (PSA) that embrace both linguistic and socio-cultural characteristics of communication.

Recently transposition became the issue of many research papers for being a complicated and sophisticated language phenomenon, and its definition has been broadened. The issue of transposition and the degrees of verb transitivity are the most controversial and difficult ones both in Hungarian and Russian linguistics. This issue may be investigated on different language levels: lexical, syntactic, morphological and on the level of word formation. Taking into account the mobility of parts of speech boundaries in the compared languages we attempt to find the cause of words transitioning from one lexico-grammatical class into another, investigate transposition as a natural phenomenon both for the Hungarian and Russian languages, differentiate transition in parts of the speech system from other language phenomena, solve some contentious issues regarding parts of speech, for example ‘noun-adjective’ relations, and others. Despite having extensive literature concerning nominalization in Russian linguistics and some works in Hungarian linguistics, some aspects are not comprehensively covered in them. For example, different types of transitions from other parts of speech into nouns, thorough semantic and thematic categorization of substantivized words, characteristics of their functioning in texts of different functional styles, principles of creating lexicography, etc. In this article we compare the process of substantivation amidst the system of parts of speech in languages of such different structure as Hungarian and Russian. Comprehensive and comparative study of the process of transition of other parts of speech into nouns allows us to conduct a deeper investigation of each of these languages’ structure and also to reveal typological similarities and differences between them. These languages have not been explored this way so it provides scientific novelty to the research. For the first time we define the main conditions of a systematic process of transposition in Hungarian and Russian and reveal both specific and universal opportunities for transition in the compared languages. We use comparative analysis for researching semantic models of substantivized words, distinguish different types of transitions into nouns and describe structural and stylistic features. Thus, the topic of the research is the grammatical, semantic, structural and stylistic features of substantivized words in Hungarian and Russian. The objective of the study is to discover linguistic nature of substantivation of adjectives, verbs and verbal formations, numerals and pronouns, to find out specific and universal features caused by typological differences of the researched languages. To achieve this goal we need to solve the following problems: determining the place of substantivation in the system of word formation in Hungarian and Russian, discovering how much substantivation and conversion being productive ways of word formation are identical in Russian and Hungarian, distinguishing semantic models of substantivized words and compare them, comparing models of usual and occasional substantivation and determine its productivity, studying their structure which means showing peculiarities of substantivized words’ grammatical structure in Hungarian and Russian, discovering similarities and differences between them and finding adequate models. The research is based on data of dictionaries of Russian and Hungarian languages, examples of fictional texts, live speech and not the least on the idioms. Theoretical importance lies in the following: 1) the research develops the theory of transitivity as we study transposition in two languages of different structures using comparative analysis of substantivized words and taking into account grammatical, semantic and functional aspects; 2) using the materials of two languages of different structures we discover the main conditions of systematic transposition and distinguish its universal and specific features; 3) for the first time the problem of transposition is studied on the basis of Russian and Hungarian from a theoretical point of view (on the example of transition of other parts of speech into nouns); 4) we develop the methodology of a comprehensive approach to study substantivation in Hungarian and Russian which can be used when describing this phenomenon in other languages of different structures.

In Yukaghir linguistics does not feature special research on the verb word formation of this dialect, which defines the relevance of this work. The object of this article is the affixes used for the formation of intransitive verbs from the base of quality processes (qualitives). The goal of this article is to describe the formation of intransitive verbs from the base of quality processes of Kolyma dialect of the Yukaghir language, as well as to clarify the meanings of word-forming affixes. The scientific novelty consists in the analysis and description of the formation of intransitive verbs from the base of quality verbs of the language of wood Yukaghir folk. The results lies in determination and specification of the semantics of word-forming affixes of intransitive verbs, formed from the base of qualitaty processes, such as -mu (reducing to various changes), -kie (acquisition of a certain quality or transition from one state to another), -ba ~ - ge, - lye, - d  (completed action or process), - buo (semi imposition of  a quality), - de and the suffix of one-time action – s’ - (completed action or process).

the article considers the change in the semantics and valence of Mansi and Khanty verbs with the preverb tāra / mukhty / muvty ‘through’ based on the material of the Ob-Ugric languages. Objective: to identify the features of the transition of verbs with the preverb tāra / mukhty / muvty from one lexical and semantic group to another. Research materials: verb sentences with the preverb tāra / mukhty / muvty ‘through’ ‘through’ of the Sosva dialect of the Mansi language and the Kazym and Surgut dialects of the Khanty language collected by the author from informants and extracted from dictionaries. Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, the most complete list of verbs with the preverb tāra / mukhty / muvty ‘through’ of different lexical and semantic groups has been revealed. It is established that this preverb is attached primarily to verbs with the semantics of action and movement. As a result, the number of valences of derived verbs either persists or decreases. Verbs of movement lose their locative valence; verbs of action retain their valence. The composition of the semantic group of verbs changes due to the compatibility of a verb with different types of subjects and objects (animate, inanimate). The results of the research may be in demand when comparing related and differently structured languages, as well as for writing the scientific grammar of the Khanty language

The purpose of the research is to determine the relationship between the concepts of “ethnos” and “language” in the peripheral zone of ethnic self-determination where some part of the society considers itself a separate ethnic group, but this belief is not supported by its linguistic separateness. The material is the data on the ethnic situation in a number of countries around the world which is obtained either from social surveys or based on ethnographic descriptions of the relationship between linguistic and ethnic self-identification in different countries. The study applies the method of correlation analysis to establish the relationship between linguistic and ethnic self-determination. The work also uses the method of sociolinguistic interpretation and the method of sociolinguistic reinterpretation which is based on the analysis of secondary material, that has already entered in scientific circulation, for sociolinguistic purposes. The basis for identification processes is the linguistic identification of an ethnic nation, on the basis of which ethnographic, ethnic and ethnopolitical national unity is formed. As a result the study highlighted four situations which are based on the correction of ethnic identification according to language identity. Firstly, a situation of ethnic transition, when a person, who defines himself as belonging to a nation “by blood”, according to his linguistic identity moves to another national group. Secondly, a situation of subethnic transition, when an ethnic subgroup designates itself as part of a nation, that uses the regional dialect or dialect of a given nation. Thirdly, the situation of ethno-political identity, when the nationality is determined by the political factor such as citizenship while preserving the language of the ethnic nation living in another, base state. Finally, multiethnic political identification, which is a type of ethnopolitical identity, when several ethnic nations, which are speakers of different languages, are united into one political nation. This interpretation of the “ethnos – language” relationship allows us to adjust the parameters of sociolinguistic and social stratification of society.

On the one hand, code switching as a linguistic phenomenon is a speaker’s transition from one language to another in the process of verbal communication, depending on the conditions of communication; on the other hand, it is the interaction of structures and structural elements of two languages. Its implementation in speech is due to a number of reasons: extralinguistic (external), intralinguistic (linguistic proper), psycho-physiological. The main purpose of this article is to identify the structural types as well as lexical and semantic characteristics of code switching, based on verb forms in the speech of native Udmurt speakers in the context of Udmurt-Russian bilingualism. In the course of the study, it was found that, in contrast to the nominal parts of speech, verbs are less susceptible to the phenomenon of code-switching. The matrix (Udmurt) language is characterized by three types of inclusion of verb forms from the donor language: a) the use of an auxiliary verb (light verb strategy); b) indirect insertion, characterized by the attachment of special morphological markers; c) semantic borrowing. In terms of lexical and semantic characteristics, the phenomenon of code switching in the context of Udmurt-Russian bilingualism is most typical of verbal units reflecting the practical and spiritual (mental, emotional, volitional) activities of people. This proves the important role of the psycho-physiological factor in the emergence of switching codes.

The physical location for data used in every organization ebbs and flows as technology improves. In the early years of computing, data were stored on the central system because that was the only choice. As communication technology advanced, a decentralized model became popular and data were stored nearer to the place it would be used. Another leap in telecommunications prompted a move back to centralized data storage, mostly because access speeds allowed the data to be used remotely with minimal time lapse due to transmission distance. The most recent transition for housing data is to move data from various databases, some centralized and some localized, into the cloud. The benefits of moving information to a cloud computing environment have made it attractive to organizations recently. Converting data from one platform to another is done regularly by IT professionals. In each of the transitions described above, data had to be converted in some way and transitions to updated computing platforms are not uncommon. In this paper, the term information evaporation will be used to distinguish the move of information to the cloud from other conversion activities, such as system upgrades or platform transitions. Converting data from a traditional database environment to an Internet-based cloud computing environment requires a different approach to security, attention to avoiding creating information silos, and development of data tags, such as eXtensible Markup Language (XML), to facilitate cross platform data access.

The problem of switching and mixing codes is extremely relevant in foreign and domestic linguistic science over the past decades. In this case, if code-switching is understood by all researchers more or less equally (switching from one language to another within a single text – dialog or monologue), then by mixing the code (code-mixing), the case looks much more complicated. The term «mixing of codes» is understood by different researchers in fundamentally different ways: from the introduction into one language of the elements of another language in almost unlimited quantities and in the unadapted (phonetically and grammatically) form before switching codes within the same sentence, that is, the kind of switching codes (the second approach thus postulates the process of speaking in two languages and removes the fundamental difference between switching codes and mixing codes). The study of the mixing of speech codes is an interesting and promising branch of research on the theory of language contacts. Among the fundamental works on this subject should be the study of P. Muysken (Muysken, 2000), where he provides a detailed typology of situations of mixing language codes. In linguistic research, there is a widespread practice of using «mixing codes» and «switching codes» as interchangeable, as well as a series of studies where the term «mixing codes» is used to describe and switch codes and massive borrowings. While the term «switching codes» emphasizes the transition of bilingual from one grammatical system to another, the term «mixing codes» implies the presence of hybrid forms associated with both grammars. In other words, mixing codes emphasizes the formal aspects of linguistic structures or linguistic competence, while code switching emphasizes linguistic performance. The psycho-linguistic direction concerning the study of the switching of speech codes among the bilingual environment explains which aspects of the linguistic competence of bilinguals allow them to modify the codes. Often, the choice of a foreign language involves a waiver of the synonymous form in the language of the successor of the language, thus opposed to an alternative way of expressing communicative intentions in a foreign language. The purpose of our scientific studio is to present function the mixing and switching codes on the materials of the memoirs («Planet DP») and the epistolary works of Ukrainian writers-emigrants in Canada, in particular, by Ulas O. Samchuk with his colleagues, publishers, etc. The main methods of research used were: the method of comparative analysis, which allows to detect English-language infusions as units of English, which determine the national-cultural specificity of the English language; the method of component analysis, which allowed to reveal the semantic interrelations of British realities; descriptive method and method of content analysis. In the course of the study, we came to the conclusion that the addressee and addressees, real masters of the artistic word, almost do not allow the English language to be spoken in Ukrainian, or such spraying is deliberately used and is a means of language play.

Josip Osti (1945–2021) was a poet, a novelist, an essayist, a literary critic, a translator and an editor. He also wrote over twenty poetry collections. Born in Sarajevo, since 1990 he lived and worked in Slovenia. After he became a recognized poet in his homeland and one of the most important translators of Slovenian literature into Serbo-Croatian, since 1997 he began to write in Slovenian. Soon after, he receives most prestigious awards in Slovenia. The transcultural aspects of Josip Osti’s literary works, both poetry collections and novels, are in the scope of our attention. The author not only lyrically reflects on his transition from one language to another, what this process was like, what influenced him and found its expression in memorable artistic images, but also assesses his literary bilingualism in his prose texts and interviews. Our analysis of his poetry, especially taking into analysis his haikus, makes it possible to understand the peculiarities of Osti’s poetic work in a non-native language, that is, Slovenian. Another important component of the transculturality of Osti’s work is his comprehension of the spaces of Bosnia and Slovenia and of their unique interconnection.

The objective of this research is to investigate the function of discourse markers as an interpersonal-interactive feature in a science lecture in second language (L2) setting in Malaysia. This research employs qualitative method while the data are gathered through non-participant observation and videorecording. From the findings, there are various discourse markers found. Macro markers signal the transition of the moves and indicate a shift of one topic/subtopic to another topic/sub-topic. Meanwhile, micro markers signal the internal or ideational relations within sentences. In conclusion, the use of discourse markers will help students to comprehend a lecture.

Исследования в этом направлении, как в зарубежной, так и в отечественной лингвистике, начали активно развиваться в XX в. Переход слов из одной части речи в другую в общей теории лингвистики называют по-разному: функциональная транспозиция, частеречная деривация, конверсия, морфолого-синтаксический способ словообразования. Следует отметь, что переход одной части речи в другую является одним из значимых и активных способов словообразования в современных языках. В данной статье рассматриваются такие частные случаи функциональной транспозиции, как адъективация и адвербиализация в осетинском языке. При этом в качестве иллюстративного материала использована лексика иронского и дигорского диалектов. В данном исследовании мы придерживаемся мнения, что адъективация – это вид функциональной транспозиции, при котором происходит переход различных частей речи в класс прилагательных, а адвербиализация – процесс перехода разных частей речи в класс наречий. В статье проанализированы теоретические вопросы, связанные с данной проблемой; рассмотрены конкретные проявления частеречной переходности. В ходе исследования сделаны следующие выводы: адъективация и адвербиализация, будучи частными способами функциональной транспозиции, проявляют себя в осетинском языке, как в иронском, так и в дигорском диалекте, очень активно; в осетинском языке адъективации могут подвергаться имена существительные и причастия; при транспонировании адъективы приобретают категорию сравнительной степени, свойственной прилагательному; в процессе адвербиализации наибольшую активность проявляют качественные прилагательные; в некоторых случаях, адвербиализация свойственна существительному и местоимению в форме косвенных падежей. In modern linguistics, much attention is paid to the problems associated with transitivity in the field of parts of speech. Research in this direction, both in foreign and domestic linguistics, began to develop actively in the XXth century. The transition of words from one part of speech to another in the general theory of linguistics is called differently: functional transposition, partial derivation, conversion, morphological-syntactic way of word formation. It should be noted that the transition from one part of speech to another is one of the most significant and active ways of word formation in modern languages. This article discusses such special cases of functional transposition as adjectivization and adverbialization in the Ossetian language. At the same time, the vocabulary of both dialects, both Iron and Digor, was used as an illustrative material. In this study, we are of the opinion that adjectivation is a type of functional transposition, in which the transition of various parts of speech into the class of adjectives occurs, and adverbialization is the process of transition of different parts of speech into the class of adverbs. The article analyzes the theoretical issues related to this problem; specific manifestations of part-of-speech transitivity are considered. In the course of the study, the following conclusions were made: adjectivation and adverbialization, being particular methods of functional transposition, manifest themselves very actively in the Ossetian language, both in the Iron and Digor dialects; in the Ossetian language, nouns and participles can be subject to adjectivation; when transposed, adjectived units acquire the category of a comparative degree characteristic of an adjective; in the process of adverbialization, qualitative adjectives show the greatest activity; in some cases, adverbialization is characteristic of the noun and pronoun in the form of indirect cases.

In the conditions of scientific and technical progress and more developing international contacts in the field of science, technology, and culture, the practical knowledge of a foreign language becomes one of the most important characteristics of a highly qualified specialist of any profile. One of the important factors in the development of the system to accelerating learning is the demands of adults themselves. Therefore, we need to create an automated system fast and effective teaching another language that uses the mini-max criterion, which provides the maximum possible result to the minimum required amount of effort on the part of the student. The essence of the approach is to replace the description in our native language with visual objects using the latest technology for implementing this approach. This means that an intermediate language is introduced, not tied to any of the known languages. The Purpose of the research is to develop a methodology (technique) for applying the Visual Approach in the educational environment created on the basis of a distributed management system to accelerate the acquisition of foreign language skills by adults. The system provides the process of controlling the formation of speech skills to a threshold level, allowing the transition from language learning to its improvement and acceleration. On the basis of this new generation using continuous evaluation of the competency level of the trainee, visual models, and information technology, got them a new incarnation, opens a new direction in construction a new version of Learning Management System - E-AMS.

Introduction: the article considers the change in semantics and valence of Khanty verbs with the preverbs pєlki / pєlka / pelәk / pӓlәkkә / pālyg on the material of the Ob-Ugric languages. Objective: to reveal a circle of verbs combined with the preverbs pєlki / pєlka / pelәk / pӓlәkkә / pālyg; to describe the transition of verbs from one lexical and semantic group (LSG) to another when combined with this preverb; to compare the system of valences and syntactic compatibility of verbs with this preverb in the Khanty and Mansi languages. Research materials: verb sentences with the preverbs pєlki / pєlka / pelәk / pӓlәkkә / pālyg of the Kazym, Shuryshkar, Ural (Ust-Soba), and Surgut dialects of the Khanty language and the Middle Sosva and Upper-Sosva dialects of the Mansi language, collected by the author from informants and extracted from dictionaries of the Mansi language. Results and novelty of the research: for the first time, the most complete list of verbs of different LSG, combined with the preverbs pєlki / pєlka / pelәk / pӓlәkkә / pālyg, is identified. It is established that this preverb is attached primarily to the verbs of destruction, separation, and displacement. As a result, the number of valences of derived verbs can either remain or decrease. Verbs of movement lose their locative valence; verbs of separation and destruction do not change their valence. The change in the composition of the semantic group of verbs occurs due to the syntactic compatibility of a verb with different types of subjects and objects (animate, inanimate). The results of the study can be used to compare related and unrelated languages, as well as to write a scientific grammar of the Khanty language.

This article uses data from a study of college students’ digital reading and writing to examine the influence of interface on literacy activity within participatory online spaces. While most existing work treats activity within these spaces largely as a function of individual interest in a space’s content, students’ firsthand accounts suggest that interface features and design play a significant role as well, particularly as students transition from one form of engagement or activity to another. Using Teena Carnegie’s framing of the interface as digital exordium, the author argues that, since participatory interfaces and the composition classroom share several central goals, students’ experiences with interface offer important lessons for translating that engagement to an academic setting.

 Particular attention is paid to lexical items that have acquired figurative meanings.
 The use of legal nominations in economic journalism shows not only to the intersectoral character of certain terms, but also to the transition of language units from one scope, branch, activity to another.
 We conclude that due to figurative meanings the terms lose their uniqueness, which makes it possible to trace the processes of determinologization in the Ukrainian language.

The article deals with one of the modern global trends – the transition from a monocultural to a multicultural perspective in social interaction. It focuses on the reflection of this trend in language education (both in native and foreign language). The problem is to reintegrate the cultural dimension into learning languages. The author of the article argues that the purpose of intercultural language education lies in the construction of an intercultural awareness as the ability of language users to act as representatives of certain cultures, be ready to accept the "otherness" of each other, respect the right to cultural difference, exhibit tolerant attitude to other’s values and behaviour patterns, counteract stereotypes and bias, and to rethink their own cultural luggage. The study of a language is considered as an intercultural language education. The result of the intercultural approach in language education is viewed as the multicomponent intercultural competence – the unity of knowledge of one’s own and other cultures; skills of discovery, interaction, and interpreting; curious and open attitude to one’s own and another culture and country; critical cultural awareness. Dialogue of cultures is positioned as one of the key principles of intercultural foreign language education. It means readiness to listen to and understand multiple perspectives, products, practices, and cultural norms in one’s own and other countries, even those with which you disagree, to have critical attitude towards stereotypes and prejudice, to be open for exchange of ideas based on mutual understanding and respect for cultural diversity. The modern language textbooks should be multicultural in their content, and contain information about not only the target language culture, but also offer materials on other cultures for visual and mental perception, discussion and comparison.

This looks at the society, especially teenagers and the transition from adolescence to adulthood (12 to 23 years). This phenomenon is actually very unique which they use some English words or phrases as their Alay slang language to communicate. It is such a case that should be researched by researcher and many people caring about Bahasa Indonesia and the way English insert in that slang. The cause and the use of it is the main case of that is actually the focus of research.This study uses a qualitative approach design; ethnography research. A qualitative approach design using data derivedfrom documents. While the form of data collecting technique is content analysis of secondary text or visual material where the researcher analyzes the content of the documents grabbed, describe, interprete, determine the settings, last is report reflexively. The data is taken from documents; screenshot of conversations of subjects in Blackberry Messenger with several themes where the English-language Alay language is usually used ie the problem of romance and vacation.
