Testo completoSince the 2000s, the acceleration in the construction of high-rise buildings in metropolises has raised new questions about the dimensionality of urbanization, i.e. the changes induced by urban developments in the way we are positioned, how we position ourselves and how we give meaning to our positioning in the urban environment. The thesis contributes to this through an analysis of the relationships between the conditions of production and habitation of high-rise buildings, the observation posts of the current stage of "urban dimensioning". In the first part, the epistemological and mesological perspective of "urban dimensioning" offers a response to the link between the intensification of high-rise production worldwide, the reconsideration of high-rise living and the "dimensional turn" of urban studies. It guides the main hypothesis of the doctoral research: dimension, as an archetypal scheme of perception and action of societies, is expressed today preferentially to that of measure in the evolution of strategies for extending access to the world at height. Based on the case of France and then Lyon, and using a variety of materials (database, marketing/communication documents, interviews with actors/residents, photography), I demonstrate in the second part the relationship between increasing metropolitan density and the valorization of living at heights. As a consequence of the densification and intensification of metropolises, the growing desire for skylines lies in the ultimately ideal conditions of possibility for extraction from the urban soil

Testo completoNot much after 1200, Philippe-Auguste, king of France, having finished the conquest of the greatest part of the continental empire of the kings of England of the dynasty of plantagenet, implements a politic of construction characterized as state and army in different places of the kingdom. Besides some walls of town, the realizations of this politics were main towers in form circular, simple and standardized. This choice architectural and asserted meant to express the power and the king's identity places itself according to the terms of a period of experimentaion of the stone-donjons seigniorial and royal with forms centred no squared, which begins about the end of the 11 h century. These experiences are the subject of the thesis. Facing the architectural form classical ; of the romanesque and barlong donjon, established from the year thousand and stable during two centuries, form particular to the lodging of the domicilium and of the public rooms, some dynasters of the island of France give to the stone master-tower of their castle some polygonal and circular forms maintaining a difference of paty that are not enough for justifying the defensive motivation. The forms of the donjon centered not squared diversified and complicated at the 12th century, are soon an alternative adopted in most northern-western regions of France, under the direct influence of the capetian kings or of the kings of England. Among these forms, the shell-keep ; or annular donjon, especially anglo-norman, is a donjon without to be a tower. On the other side of some keeps confined by which the lords of montfort and the counts of dreux maintain their dynastic identity, the second half of the 12th century sees to rise up the cylindric and pure form, used to the same purpose by the count of Blois Thibaud V, big builder and probable Philippe-Auguste's inspirer

Testo completoHigh-rise architecture raises a whole set of urban mythologies and historical constructions that, indefinitely, value its symbolic dimensions or debate its definition, its place of birth and its place in modern times. The skyscraper, the tower are objects of fascination often taken in the frame of great narratives which, by noting the most striking manifestations, omit the minor traces which are so fundamental echoes of the emission and the reception of architecture, likely to rebalance the speeches. Thanks to a large body of works and sources, this research project aims to understand the ideological and urban situation of high-rise architecture in Paris, its emergence in the French opinion in 1893 (World Fair of Chicago) to its condemnation in the early 1970s, under the action of convergent criteria: Olivier Guichard's Circular of March 21, 1973 (Tours and Barres) and the stop of the towers proclaimed a year later by the president of the Republic Valéry Giscard d'Estaing

Testo completoIn France the State was not necessary against the municipalities, but Republic sets up itself on them. Laws of decentralization modified the institutional scene of our country by avoiding the question of the municipal dispersion. The search for a better organization will never question this division, but will get round this question by inciting to the intermunicipal links. Since 1999, a watershed has been confirmed with three laws: Chevènement, Voynet, then SRU who note the existence of the urban area. If we note that nothing seems to give to this space any identity, we can wonder how the intermunicipal links applied to the urban areas can base its legitimacy? Which are the processes who can make this piece of space deliberately cut off by politics and administration, a form able to crystallize a feeling of collective identity? The approach by the territory allows a partial but transverse access to a complex object one supposes that it works as a system which unites various logics: political, historic, social, spatial

Testo completoThis work offers an analysis of candidate identity in the 2007 French presidential campaign through verbal interactions and the use of vocabulary. Candidate identity is the upshot of a shared construction process between political leaders and voters. Our assumption is the candidate target image doesn't necessarily correspond with the voters view. Two lexicometric analyses are presented. The first one is an analysis of the head-to-head debate between Ségolène Royal and Nicolas Sarkozy and the second looks at the voters' questions during two political shows : « J'ai une question à vous poser » (TF1) and « A vous de Juger » (France 2). The results show the two opponents manage to use a discursive strategy to construct an identity in keeping with their previous social image and that Nicolas Sarkozy manages to impose his identity at Ségolène Royal's expense. However, the two political shows reveal that more than political opinions, gender plays a dominant role in voters perception. Political women involved in presidential election are mainly perceived through gender category, including Ségolène Royal. This discrimination damages their identity and deters their claim to achieve the presidential status. This paper offers a verbal and psychosocial approach of political communication

Testo completoFrom the late 1530s to the early 1550s, the city of Lyons sees a considerable enterprise of promotion of poetry books, supported by a group of printers and booksellers. From the printer’s and bookseller’s workshops to the space of the book, this undertaking is built upon the reinvention of French as a refined language fit for conveying literature and poetry. Étienne Dolet, François Juste, Jean de Tournes and Guillaume Rouillé pursue a concerted editorial policy to obtain recognition for poetry books and the French language. During this period, Lyons builds a unique editorial identity, which sets the city apart from the rest of the kingdom. Even when the printers of Lyons help themselves to books edited in Paris, they do so by integrating the publications to consistent catalogues and using these to support their claim of a cultural and poetic identity specific to Lyons. This identity, along with a high editorial quality, sets up the pre- eminence of Lyons in Southern France, as can be witnessed for instance in Toulouse. All of these factors contribute to the setting up of a poetic field, but this pretense of consistency and unity is frail. If such a thing as “Lyons poetry” truly exists, this is only true insofar as poetry book holds the city’s political ambitions, in the context first of the war against Charles the Fifth and later of the change of reign

Testo completoAdmired for its imposing and richly ornamented architecture, the south tower of Senlis Cathedral is one of the few 13th century monumental spires that has been preserved till today. This resolutely interdisciplinary research enlightens the progress of this ambitious project, by combining historical analysis, building archaeology and digital techniques. The superelevation of the western façade of the Cathedral underlines the ambition of the bishops of Senlis, who wished to complete the smallest Cathedral in northern France. By reconstituting the topography of Senlis in the Middle Ages, it is possible to study precisely the impact of the spire on the urban and peripheral landscape as well as the phenomena of emulation with the civil and religious towers. An archaeological study enriched by the analysis of the traces of tools specifies the reinforcement work of the western facade in anticipation of the spire. The digitalization of the tower through the scanner laser 3D method allows a detailed study, proposing an architectural, geometrical, mechanical analysis and highlighting the numerous deformations of the walls. The study of the abundant sculpted decorations provides a more precise chronology than before and articulates the construction with the first transept of the Cathedral, chronologically close. Finally, the study of the materials used in the construction of the spire enlightens the organization of the construction site, focusing on the work made, the implementation of scaffoldings and the successive stages of the construction

Testo completoThe fortified medieval areas of the Velay (medieval diocese of Puy-en-Velay) are analysed in their constitution and their use. The survey concerns a corpus of castle sites, fortified towns, fortified houses, priories and fortified churches in 145 communes, mostly in the department of Haute-Loire (France-Auvergne). The changes that these fortified spaces operate during the 13th-15th centuries are highlighted: spatial morphology and choices of occupancy of these areas, evolution of individual seigneurial habitats and enclosures in rural and urban context. The nature of the relations between the different social groups building this fortified territory is mainly documented by texts : relationships between the lords and the bishop of Le Puy or the king, relationships between the lords and the urban or rural communities, emergence of new social groups (the small gentry). The purpose focuses on the articulation of these areas and the social and symbolic relationships that each of the social groups has with fortifications. Thus, the intentions of domination and the resistance of each of the medieval social groups are revealed by analysing the plots, the buildings and the form of the fortification
