Abstract (sommario):
Nature-based tourism is a type of tourism that is primarily concerned with the direct enjoyment of relatively undisturbed natural phenomena. Today, it is among the types of tourism which are characterised by significant growth rates at the global level. It has considerable growth potential and its development can concurrently ensure tourist satisfaction with the nature experience, profit for tourism providers, funds for environmental protection and an improvement in living standards in local communities. Nevertheless, it is also important to be aware of the potential negative implications of nature-based tourism development and to continuously manage all aspects of sustainability. This paper aims to determine the main study aspects of nature-based tourism, the most common methodological approaches and the most important characteristics of its contemporary development. For this purpose, an analysis of recent empirical research on nature-based tourism was conducted, and a total of 41 original scientific papers were included in the analysis. The four study aspects derived from this analysis contribute to determining the general characteristics of nature-based tourism's contemporary development, the prerequisite factors for this development, and the effects it has on a given area.

Abstract (sommario):
The article contains a thorough study of tourist flows in Ukraine during the last 18 years. The tendencies of the development of international tourism during the last 20 years and their influence on the development of tourism in Ukraine have been explored. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of inbound tourist flows. The negative dynamics of tourist arrivals in Ukraine led to the construction of a forecast model for the development of this component of tourism activity with the aim of an objective assessment of future tourist arrivals and the adoption of effective management decisions on improving the situation of tourism in Ukraine. Tourist destinations today are rigorously competing for consumer interest in tourism products. In view of this, tourist facilities operating in the tourist market place particular emphasis on the elements of tourism marketing (product, price, distribution, advertising, human capital, actual data, processes).Modern forecasting systems and methods have been used to build a forecast of tourism development in Ukraine and, in particular, arrivals of foreign tourists to Ukraine. An analytical forecasting model was built by the system of CurveExpert in the form of a polynomial function, analytical forecasting models were built by the system of computer algebra Maple in the form of piecewise linear and piecewise polynomial functions. Numerical prediction models in the MathCAD system using different types of spline-interpolation and predictive functions have been constructed. A comparative analysis of the results of forecasting in different systems was carried out. The results of the comparative analysis give confidence in the development of inbound tourism in Ukraine.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractIntroduction. City tourism is one of the most frequently chosen forms of tourism consisting of many motives for doing it. On the modern tourist market, there are many negative phenomena that significantly affect the functioning of urban tourist destinations but primarily have an impact on the decisions of potential tourists about choosing cities as a tourist destination. These phenomena pose a threat to the development of both cities and tourism. They are conditioned by endogenous factors, which result from the functioning of the city, and exogenous ones, i.e. those related to socio-economic relations of the city with the environment, including tourist traffic. Cities, as a destination or transit tourist destination, are characterized by high concentration of tourist traffic; hence, the negative phenomena often affect urban tourist space with great intensity. The aim of the study is to present the author’s concept of sustainable urban tourism policy assumptions. After presenting the concept of sustainable urban tourism development policy, the following issues will be discussed: basics of tourism policy, urban tourism, sustainable tourism, classification of threats related to the sustainable development of urban tourism.Material and methods. The study is of theoretical and conceptual nature. The following research methods will be used: critical analysis of the literature and methods of logical operations.Results. The effect of the considerations is to propose the assumptions of the concept of sustainable urban tourism development policy.Conclusions. The most important problems related to the functioning of sustainable tourism were indicated, taking into account the impact of tourism on the natural environment and on overtourism.

Abstract (sommario):
The article considers conceptual issues of meaningful interpre- tation, the current state and prospects for further development of eco-tour- ism, with regard to environmental conservation and the rational exploitation of natural resources. In Russia, as a country with immense tourist and recre- ational potential, ecological tourism is becoming more and more in demand not only in specially protected natural areas, but also in regions that have never positioned themselves as tourist destinations before. However, a few legal, in- frastructural and organizational constraints and issues that prevent its more active development in Russia. The authors highlighted the conceptual charac- teristics of eco-tourism in comparison with terms similar in meaning – natural tourism, natural and educational tourism, green tourism, soft tourism. Legisla- tive consolidation of the definition of the term “ecological tourism” will allow to clearly identify that type of tourism, to form the industry professional re- quirements for its organization, to apply the best available technologies.

Abstract (sommario):
Tourism is one of the most important and dynamic sectors of the world's economy. However, the coronavirus pandemic in 2020–2021 caused significant losses in the tourism industry. The pandemic has also significantly affected the tourism development in Germany, which is one of the world's leading tourist destinations. The article analyzes the dynamics of tourism development in Germany in 2012–2022 and calculates the indicator of the integral index of tourism development in the federal states of Germany. The average values of the initial partial indicators for 2018–2022 are taken, to determine the integral index of tourism development level in the federal lands of Germany, which reflect both absolute and relative parameters of tourism growth. Based on the calculated average integrated index of the tourism development level in the federal lands of Germany, the features of spatial differentiation in the tourism development in the country are clarified. The analysis shows that before the coronavirus pandemic, tourism in Germany was significantly developing. The total number of tourist arrivals by 2020 increased annually by more than 20 %. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, their number and tourism revenues halved in 2020 and 2021. In 2022, this indicator and other indicators of the development of the German tourism industry tended to improve. Domestic tourists dominate the total number of tourist arrivals. The calculated average integral index of tourism development in the federal lands showed a significant spatial asymmetry in the levels of development of the German tourism industry. According to this index, the federal lands of Germany are divided into five groups: high, high than average, medium, lower than average, and low tourism development levels. The lands of Berlin and Bavaria have a high level of tourism development. These regions are well-known tourist destinations in Germany. They have a rich cultural heritage, abundant natural resources and attractive landscapes, and a large number of tourist accommodation facilities. Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Baden-Württemberg have a higher level of tourism development than the national average. These lands are characterised by a large number of tourist overnight stays, accommodation facilities, territorial concentrations, and a high intensity of tourism. The western German lands of Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia have an average level of tourism development. These lands are characterised by high tourist arrivals and the number and capacity of accommodation facilities. However, due to the large area of these territories, they have low indicators of the territorial concentration of tourism activity. Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Bremen, Saxony and Brandenburg have a lower level of tourism development than the German average. These regions are characterised by moderate tourism development indicators. The federal lands of Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia and Saarland have the lowest level of tourism development due to low volumes of tourist flows and low concentration of accommodation facilities. The German government has introduced several measures to support the tourism industry during the pandemic, including emergency financial assistance, grant support, a special loan program, tax measures, and short-term leave for businesses. It is known that higher tourism development indicators are typical for the lands with the highest level of social and economic development. Tourism is a factor that influences the economic development of both the country and individual federal states. Keywords: integral index of tourism development, Germany, tourism, tourist arrivals, federal state.

Stone, Christopher J. "Tourism associations and tourism development, with special reference to rural tourism". Thesis, Sheffield Hallam University, 1994. http://shura.shu.ac.uk/20408/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The thesis presents the results of a critical investigation of the work and role of 'tourism associations' (TAs) as part of the tourism development system at the local scale in England and Wales. Local tourism development groups existed for a century or more before recent notions of community involvement in visitor industry initiatives came to prominence as part of the debate about 'green' tourism, and the study represents the first in-depth investigation of these groups, aimed at offering some guidance for the community tourism organisations advocated by several tourism authors. Guided by systems analysis methodology, the study presents original data on the nature and role of TM and develops theoretical consideration of such groups. Based upon these contributions to understanding, a critical assessment of the potential contribution of TM towards the development of small-scale local visitor industries as part of the local economies in qualitative terms is made. A review of relevant literature establishes that government policy has sought to develop tourism as a component of local economies in urban and rural areas. The sparse literature on tourism associations generally ascribes them lower-order publicity roles rather than the developmental functions that they could perhaps more usefully fulfil. Visitors represent a major economic opportunity for local communities, and economic multiplier studies show that local economies could benefit from becoming more visitor-oriented. However, relatively few areas benefit from conventional tourism development initiatives, particularly in the countryside, and voluntary effort may be necessary for communities to capitalise upon the visitor market. A postal questionnaire survey of a large sample of tourism associations in England and Wales established that these groups exist as a response to a perception of need for such organisations. During the 1970s and '80s there was a surge in the formation rate of TM. They were found to vary in many respects but shared common characteristics, and were classified into four basic types. While most members were businesses, many had representatives from the public sector and other organisations in membership. They undertook a broad range of useful activities, and certain public sector bodies provide financial assistance for aspects of their work. Some operated mainly as trade associations, but there are grounds for regarding all as community tourism groups to some degree. Measures of sophistication based upon the survey data and analyses are proposed, but the level of sophistication appropriate for any individual group depends upon local circumstances. An interview-based case study of four TAs working in rural Herefordshire reflected and validated many of the questionnaire survey conclusions. Each group had different approaches and priorities, particularly regarding the relative balance struck between promotion and development of the south Herefordshire visitor industry. They worked alongside tourism-oriented public sector bodies to varying degrees, and some received financial assistance for certain activities. While quantification of the effects that the TAs had on the visitor industry proved impossible, interviewees' opinions indicated that the work of the groups was valuable and that, without them, the contribution of the visitor industry to the local economy would be reduced. Analysis of the data collection stages showed that the goals of tourism associations are essentially the same as those of the more formal elements of the tourism development system, with marketing as a key focus. The work of TM can produce positive economic benefits for local economies in urban, coastal and rural locations. Recommendations for best practice are made for the associations and their roles, and the public sector is urged to help establish and help support TM. Conclusions drawn are that tourism associations have a valuable developmental role to play alongside their publicity function, and that the broad-membership association type is probably more appropriate for visitor industry development in lesser-known areas than sectoral types.

Abstract (sommario):
Thesis (MTech (Tourism and Hospitality Management))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009.
Tourism is regarded as the fastest growing industry in the world. Africa was identified at the World Investment Conference in Geneva (WAIPA, 2005) as one of the continents with a significant potential for developing tourism. Located in sub-Saharan Africa, Rwanda is a low income, landlocked and densely populated country in Africa. Tourism provides the best alternative for economic development to Rwanda which does not have mineral resources unlike most African countries. The development of tourism can contribute a lot to this country through reduction of the level of poverty, creation of job opportunities as well as contributing to the national income. However, the tourism industry in Rwanda is still in its early stages due to the 1994 war. Most of the parks re-opened in 1998/1999, and still concentrate on low volume of tourists. Until now Rwanda is not recognised among the known tourist destinations in Africa; it is believed to be a less developed place for tourists. This study presents barriers to tourism development in Rwanda as perceived by domestic and international tourists as well as workers in the tourism sector of Rwanda. The study was conducted in the four provinces of Rwanda and the capital city, Kigali. A quantitative design using two cross-sectional questionnaires was utilised to establish the opinions of the participants. A sample of 426 participants, including 68 international tourists, 182 domestic tourists as well as 176 workers in the tourism sector was selected to participate in the study.

Sustainability is a global concern for any organisation seeking to remain relevant and in business. In a developing country like South Africa, tourism has the potential to stimulate the economy and create jobs. The Free State and Northern Cape provinces are generally not at the top of the list for national and international tourists, although they are regions of great natural beauty and splendour. These provinces have many small towns and farming communities and thus extensive areas of rural land. This paper interrogates the sustainability issues related to tourism and reflect on the Volksblad Tourism Town of the Year Competition as a means of stimulating sustainable tourism in Free State and Northern Cape provinces.

Abstract (sommario):
Tourism development, or lack thereof, is a direct reflection of society's progress. This paper deals with a number of elements that affect the development of humanity, and the connection between the progress of human culture and tourism. In this way, they will try to find out the role of tourism in society, and finally the perspective in the future. Today, tourism has become a global phenomenon and certainly one of the most massive phenomena in world relations. The tourist market is marked by a new reorganization: new generations of tourists are being created, new tourist products, tourists are looking for something new and unexperienced on their vacation, thus changing the way the tourist offer operates, all influenced by globalization, global warming, political and security trends.

Abstract (sommario):
The strategy of the geopolitical component of the Arctic and the North is being updated. Tourism plays an important role in solving social problems, ensuring employment growth, and improving the well-being of the population. In the global aspect, tourism is one of the important areas that affect the growth of the economy, including the development of economic activity areas such as the services of travel companies, transport, communications, trade, production of souvenirs and other products, food and others, moreover, it represents a powerful innovative resource for the socio-economic development of the region. The concept of the development of Arctic tourism in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the most northern territory of Russia, reflects the current situation in the northern regions of the republic, its recreational resources, and tourism potential. Thus, unique natural, historical and cultural resources and objects of historical and archaeological heritage are concentrated on the territory of this region. Such a wide range of potentially attractive tourist sites and complexes can be very popular with Russian and foreign tourists, as well as residents of the republic. The relevance of the research is also connected with the world narrative associated with global environmental at societal challenges – climate changes and sustainable development of the arctic territories and indigenous peoples. One of the important components of Arctic tourism in Russia should be the paleontological tourism in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) because of the big zone of permafrost. The promotion of paleontological tourist destinations and knowledge in the modern world is associated with unique finds of fossil fauna (primarily related to the Mesozoic era), as well as ancient monuments associated with the remains of the first people.

Abstract (sommario):
By using a comparison approach, this article examines the current features of domestic tourism in Lithuania. Various aspects of domestic tourism are analysed and discussed. The aim of this study is to identify current trends specific to the Lithuanian domestic tourism sector and propose potential means of development. The methods of statistical analysis, graphic representation and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) were used in the research. The analysed period was 2004 through 2014. The comparison between outbound tourism and domestic tourism consumption shows, that outbound tourists’ consumption is considerably high compared to domestic tourists’ consumption. However domestic tourism is much less sensitive to crises; it is quite stable and important segment in Lithuanian tourism industry. If to compare tourism consumption, two products show significant upward trend: Sport and other entertainment services since 2010 and Cultural services since 2011. After 2008 year recession domestic tourism sector revives, tourists expenditure reached pre-crisis level, although the increase of same-day visitors’ expenditure is slightly. In the regions of Lithuania same-day tourism opportunities are well-exploited; however, overnight tourism possibilities are not well developed. On the basis of the DEA method it can be concluded that in Telsiai county it is purposeful to improve the activity of museums and travel agents’ work, and in Alytus, Panevezys, Siauliai, Taurage, Telsiai counties it is best to improve the attractiveness/appeal of regional parks.

Abstract (sommario):
The heterogeneous needs and demands of tourists have led to the development of different types of tourism. Due to the desire to spend a part of their time outside of the usual daily activities, tourists today are increasingly developing needs that are in line with the principles of sustainable development. The Republic of Serbia is often referred to as the land of spas, due to numerous thermal mineral springs, which have been used as tourist destinations for decades. In order to preserve the value of spas, and then improve the spa’s position as a sustainable tourist destination, strategic decisions are needed that will ensure the use of the resources available to the spa, while respecting the principles of sustainable development. Bearing in mind the above, this paper aims to examine the possibilities of spa tourism development through the mobilization, ie engagement of local resources.

Abstract (sommario):
Ajara Autonomous Republic, both within the country and in the world tourist market, has always been positioned as a maritime tourist destination. However, over recent years diversification of tourist products and appealing new market segments have become one of the main priorities of the tourism development strategy of Ajara Autonomous Republic. As a result, the government is creating an appropriate tourist infrastructure, especially in rural areas to support developing such tourist products as adventure and eco-tourism. Adventure tourism can deliver significant benefits at the local level and it is a developing segment in Ajara. Creating adventure tourism products requires integration of various interdependent services. A tourism value chain is defined as a system that describes the cooperation of private and state sectors in providing resources, which creates costs and adds value through various processes and delivers final products to visitors. The purpose of the research was to determine weak links in the value chain and creating a comprehensive value chain model to form the competitive adventure tourism product. The research involved all actors, which operate in the tourism sector. Based on the results of the survey, in the value chain, the food link turned out to be the weakest, whereas the accommodation with the highest share was distinguished in the visitor spending structure. Overall, the cost of the adventure tour will be affordable for both international and domestic tourists. At this stage, government support and participation are crucial in the formation of adventure tourism infrastructure. Through using the case study and qualitative research methods, we tried to identify challenges to the growth of adventure tourism in Ajara and developed recommendations to overcome these challenges.

Milea, Camelia. "Characteristics of tourism in the Republic of Moldova". In The 5th Economic International Conference “Competitiveness and sustainable development“. Technical University of Moldova, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.52326/csd2023.15.

Abstract (sommario):
Prioritizing tourism in the development of the economy is one of the objectives of the Republic of Moldova. In the article, there are presented the natural and human made resources of the Republic of Moldova, as well as some characteristics of the tourist infrastructure in order to highlight the tourism development potential of this country. From the point of view of the accommodation, in the Republic of Moldova the availability of units is limited, especially for the accommodation facilities in the superior segment. The analysis shows an underutilization of the accommodation capacity of the collective tourist reception structures, but also a significant disequilibria, namely the number of Moldovan tourists and excursionists who have gone abroad is much higher than the number of foreign tourists and excursionists, who have visited the Republic of Moldova. The hospitality of the people, the Moldovan cuisine, the great variety of high quality wines, the relief, the flora and fauna, the ethnographic diversity (Romanians, Ottomans, Russians, Poles and Germans), the rich heritage at the crossroads of cultures, the political stability, the cheap access to high-speed internet can be considered among the strong points that may attract tourists to the Republic of Moldova. But apart from these elements of attraction and opportunities, tourism in the Republic of Moldova has also some weak points, and is subject to risks that are presented at the end of the paper. The methodology used in the article joins the descriptive analysis with the empirical analysis of statistical data and their interpretation, and also drawing of conclusions.
