Abstract (sommario):
Contemporary trends on the world tourism market show that the number of tourists attracted by the cities in growing. Urban tourism is a growing tourism market and especially are attractive the cities in Europe. The cities as an important tourist destinations came of age during 1980s. The local governments came to recognize that tourism could have a role in urban economic development. The invisibility of tourism in cities partly arises from the fact that many facilities are used both by residents and visitors. Improving these facilities therefore provides benefits for local residents as well as assisting the promotion of tourism. City tourism development plan should be prepared as an integral part of global economic and social development plan of the city, with the main aim to integrate the tourism in existing urban economic development, and at the same time to prevent conflict situations. Tourism development in the city needs a network and cooperative relationships between local government, tourist organization, tourist agencies and different organizations/institutions in the city; public-private partnership is a must. In the paper are analyzed the main attributes, principles and goals of the tourism in the cities.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract: Urban planning is a tool that helps in managing the things that need a spatial approach and it also helps in conducting the other activities. While planning the urban cities the past and recent condition should also be taken into account for better result. But each and every one is concern about the growth and development, though tourism includes different sectors and have different criteria according to the place, but the impact factors are almost common in all the aspects of tourism. Tourism cities have tremendous potential of research in their filed, but the problem should be identified specifically and proper methodology should be used during their process the government policies should also be taken into account and based on that solution should be plan of such places. In short recognized the impacts and work on it and according to that the urban planning should be done to boost tourism sector to next level. Once the impacts are taken out and work on such impact are carried out than the development of such places will automatically goes on increasing and it help to keep the environment and that specific place neat and clean and also help it to grow it original and natural beauty. Nashik city in Maharashtra state is one of the oldest city which have most important historical ,culturally and religious importance and one of the city who hold kumbha mela and most of the people visit this city throughout the year and if the impacts are solved at it basic and ground level than the development may rapidly increase and gives better life to the surrounding environment.

Abstract (sommario):
This article discusses the concept of city branding and how it can unlock urban tourism in urban areas of the developing world. City branding has emerged as a sophisticated tool for cities to (re)assert themselves in a global economic market. Cities are concerned with establishing their own images in order to attract tourists, investors, business people, students, and skilled personnel. This study focuses on Harare in Zimbabwe which is currently in the middle of preparing a city master plan to guide development for the next 15-20 years. Harare is strategically positioned as far as the country's open for business mantra is perceived. However, Harare's brand, the ‘Sunshine City', has lost its sparkle due to a plethora of urban planning challenges. The study was based on a wide desk study and content analysis. The research highlighted gaps in city branding practices in which history, modernity, and planning are lacking. Hence, urban planning practices such as master planning may help cities (re)assert themselves in the global cities economic and tourist networks.

Abstract (sommario):
This article will focus on how smart museums provide conditions for creative and playful learning experience that facilitates creative tourism development, overcomes cultural barriers of public participation, and therefore benefits to smart city planning. Theoretically, a social-cultural perspective to the concept of creativity will be outlined that further brings a framework that intertwines with concepts of creativity, learning, playfulness, fun, and participation. This framework addresses why and how visitors in smart museums may learn creative and playful experience through participation with new technologies. Furthermore, by taking emerging smart museums in China as a case, this article also brings implications for other cultures on how to develop diverse methods and varies strategies for encouraging public participation in smart city planning in the future.

Abstract (sommario):
Tourism is increasingly important to city economies and the built environment is crucial to the tourist experience of cities. Accounts in the literature tend to focus on cities responding with planned development of iconic buildings and tourism precincts. Evidence from London and other world tourism cities shows that in many cases tourists want to explore the city beyond tourism precincts, and strive to get off the beaten track to discover the ‘real city’. The architecture and built environment that is important to them is not iconic, monumental and planned, but the ordinary and everyday fabric of the city.2398-4295 © 2016. The Authors. Abstract (sommario):
The article provides new information on hotel prices and services in 26 European cities and investigates hotel price determinants. In a two-step estimation procedure, the authors first quantify the price effect of single room and hotel services and then examine the relationship between accommodation prices and city characteristics. They find that hotel services differ significantly from city to city and that room characteristics such as size, breakfast, air conditioning, and free-cancellation options are services for which customers are willing to pay a significant markup. Moreover, the service content of accommodation is negatively correlated with the value of the city center where the hotel is located: increasing competition on the European market seems to be producing partial price convergence via adjustment of service and quality content, so that cities with higher factor costs tend to cut service quality while “cheaper” towns improve it.

Abstract (sommario):
In the last 10 years, tourism has been rapidly growing in Yogyakarta. Studies show that tourism development in Yogyakarta has led to irritated feelings among local residents. This study aims to measure residents' attitudes toward tourism development in Yogyakarta by using validated measurement properties with a scale that measures residents' attitudes toward sustainable tourism development (SUS-TAS). The instrument was distributed to 1,687 local residents living in three main tourist destinations in Yogyakarta. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to measure the validity and internal reliability of each variable. Descriptive quantitative analysis was also conducted to investigate the level of agreement among residents to each variable. Findings support the seven dimensions in the SUS-TAS scale. Perceived social cost and community participation are the variables with the lowest level of agreement among the variables. Results also confirm underlying tourism development problems in Yogyakarta.

Abstract (sommario):
Cities and tourism entities invest massive resources into smart system initiatives as information technologies are a key factor for a city’s destination competitiveness. Moreover cities around the world are increasingly recognizing the smart tourism city concept and related strategies as means of optimizing sustainable environments. Particularly for cities facing emerging issues of residents’ negative perceptions towards tourism, smart tourism city empowers a city to rise to this challenge by creating urban spaces that residents and visitors can enjoy together. However, smart tourism city research initiatives still fail to address the full spectrum of related and potential developments. This study presents a conceptual approach to defining smart tourism city: the smart city and its components are defined and contrasted with smart tourism and its components. The resulting convergence—smart tourism city—is then examined in light of a number of pioneering examples of smart tourism cities and its vital roles in the age of sustainable development. The main purpose of this study is to show the interests of locals and tourists context and the roles of ‘smart’ government leadership to researchers and practitioners.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – This article discusses a type of activity, level of consumption, and cruise ship tourists’ satisfaction in a destination to understand the perspectives of cruise tourism in the city. Design/Methodology – The research was conducted during 2018 by personal interviews or website questionnaires among 163 cruise tourists in the city of Rijeka, Croatia. The survey included 15 questions that were categorized into five thematic units. The data were processed by descriptive statistics. Findings – According to a slight increase in travelers’ consumption but also their overall satisfaction, the results suggest an increase in destination attractiveness. The economic results are still at a modest level. A set of measures has been proposed to improve tourism services in the destination. Originality of the research – Given those cruise companies are permanently on the lookout for attractive destinations, it is up to cities to attract cruise ships to their ports. It is necessary to assess and check the tourists’ experience of a cruise destination permanently so that the offerings of port city can be adjusted to the changing demands of passengers. Limiting factors associated with cruising point to caution in assessing the future of cruise tourism, especially in a city where this kind of business is just beginning.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – This paper aims to explore tourism consumer’s perceptions of cultural, emotional and behavioural differences. The subjective personal introspection (SPI) approach is used to investigate specific cultural differences which impact tourism satisfaction. It aims to identify the key attributes of cultural tourism satisfaction by comparing three European cities. The cultural attributes are synthesised into a confirmatory personal introspection (CPI), and a provisional research model is proposed. Design/methodology/approach – The research data of the cultural experiences are based on SPI data of “native-visitors” to London and ordinary visitors to Venice and Barcelona. The duration and the travel arrangements are the same for all three cultural experiences. The CPI uses thought experiments to formulate new research propositions. Findings – The SPI results show that the tourism gaze focus can be the cognitive-affective experiences of cultural holidays. Tourism consumer satisfaction is dependent on the quality of natural and man-made attractions and the social-emotional interactions between the hosts and guests in a destination. The three cities in our research, London, Venice and Barcelona, have different micro-cultures and levels of social-emotional interactions vary considerably between them. Overall tourism satisfaction is hypothesised to be influenced by the degree of social interaction and micro-cultural differences. Practical implications – The findings support the usefulness of SPI in tourism consumer research. SPI research findings produce in-depth understandings of the cultural tourism product attributes which cannot be captured in any other way. The personal insights are valuable to marketing professionals because they provide first-hand feedback of consumer’s perceptions over a longer period than a focus group session. The confirmatory introspections are valuable hypotheses to be tested empirically with specific tourism segments to identify product strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats. Originality/value – The use of SPI and CPI produces original hypotheses of the cultural tourism attributes which influence tourism satisfaction. The paper demonstrates that the tourism gaze can be expanded to investigate the cognitive-affective observations which have a direct effect on tourism satisfaction and decision-making.

Abstract (sommario):
A plethora of new public spaces have been developed in central areas of many British cities. There is evidence of the emergence of new tourism and hospitality developments (particularly hotels) close to public spaces, which could influence how the spaces are used. Whilst an ongoing discussion of the hospitable city is prevalent within the literature, no study to date has focused specifically on the symbiosis of tourism, hospitality and public space in planning policy documents. To gain a better understanding of how cities plan for a productive relationship between tourism and hospitality and public space and hotel development this article presents a content analysis of the city of Sunderland’s Unitary Development Plan entitled UDP Alteration No. 2 (Central Sunderland) Adopted Policies, this being the central legal urban planning policy document that guides change in the city. The results of the content analysis suggest three central themes of prestige, variety and vibrancy.

Abstract (sommario):
The main concepts of urban tourism development and ecological urban tourism are analyzed. It is shown that such types of modern tourist business, despite its rapid development, need a clear scientific basis that will ensure its orderliness and targeted optimization. Along with such purely tourist resources as attractiveness, historical value, aesthetic appeal, recognizability, the ecological safety of tourist groups and individual tourists is an essential point. These are complementary factors that not only contribute to the development of urban tourism, but also ensure its optimized safety. Urban tourism is one of the most intensive tourist destinations in modern society. In general, the concept of "city tourism" is relatively new. Its concept was formed in world tourism in the late twentieth century. thanks to the work of German scientists L. Hartmut, G. Neuenfeldtut, O. Rose (1980-1990). For example, L. Hartmut's dictionary (1997) defines urban tourism as “a short-term (usually 1–4 days) visit to a city with the following purpose: interest in the history and culture of the city; participation in various events; purchase of various goods. Often such a visit is carried out in the form of a weekend excursion and can take place both individually and in groups, ie both organized (through a tour of the company and with guides), and independently. The growing intensity of the development of urban tourism in Ukraine, as well as the intensification of the development of related industries, makes scientific developments in the perspective of justifying the optimization of such a component of the tourism industry is extremely relevant. At the same time, there are certain components of such relevance that are related to the structure of urban tourism. It includes scientific developments that aim to reveal the possibilities of tourism development in a particular city, from purely quantitative indicators of the intensity of possible tourist flows to ensure their quality, including environmental safety. As a result, the relevance and novelty of such studies is a holistic expression, where each component is characterized by its own structurally oriented place and complements other components. Urban tourism and its component urban ecological tourism are among the most promising tourist destinations. Along with their spontaneous development, there is a need for scientific understanding of such activities, which will contribute to the development of the necessary legislative solutions. Today there are discussions on defining the main concepts of urban tourism development such as urban tourism itself, the ecological environment of urban tourism development, ecological safety of urban tourism development, tourist ecological resource, etc. In general, the prospects of such a tourist destination are beyond doubt, and the scientific basis that can optimize such tourism development is a necessary and timely completion of it today. The researches presented in the article encourage to improve the optimization of urban tourism development in any city of Ukraine. At the same time, the identification of the main problem situations contributes to focusing on them, which can significantly reduce time and money resources when planning the development of the tourism industry in cities. Such approaches allow to optimize urban planning in the field of tourism development. Since the scientific developments presented in the article are largely generalized, they can be used in the development of the tourism industry in any city of Ukraine. Key words: urban tourism, ecological city tourism, urban tourist resources, ecological safety of tourists.

Abstract (sommario):
Santiago de Compostela is an iconic place. From the 9th century through to the present day the city has acted as the final destination of a major pilgrimage route named after it. In the article we ask ourselves how the contemporary reinvention of the pilgrimage and pilgrimages on the Way of St. James has boosted tourism development in the city. Development has been concentrated in the historic city centre and in the area around the cathedral. The importance of tourism has transformed the significance of the city itself, which acquires a magical component as a place of arrival and encounter for all kinds of visitors. The historic city has been set up in the 20th century as a destination for the Way and for cultural tourism. The buildings, particularly those connected with the pilgrimage route, become highly attractive and symbolic places and tourists carry out a number of rituals in them. They travel and enjoy Santiago as a unique experience. The study of tourism and of the tourist transformation of Santiago de Compostela is undertaken using a qualitative and quantitative method. The article analyses the heritage and symbolic value of the historic centre, together with the growth of its tourism activities. Numerical data are also provided on the perceptions and behaviour of visitors using surveys carried out by the city's Tourism Observatory.

Abstract (sommario):
Whilst considerable attention has been given to the role of cultural tourism in city development and the ‘gentrification’ of inner city areas, there has been little research into the experiences of cultural tourists. Past research shows that their experience is conceptualised as a ‘pre-programmed’ product made especially for mass consumption. It is often assumed that the commoditisation of urban tourism results in ‘standardised’ city environments, loss of culture and traditions, loss of place distinctiveness and subsequent loss of ‘authenticity’. According to this line of reasoning, cultural tourists consume ‘specimens of the artificial’ which are mass produced, predictable, standardised, superficial, and hence ‘inauthentic’. The central focus of this article is the ongoing debate concerning the consumption of tourists’ cultural experiences within the context of city tourism. Issues associated with the various dimensions of ‘authenticity’ that inform cultural tourism studies are critically assessed. Abstract (sommario):
Many cities consider development of cultural tourism as opportunity to sustain employment and economic growth of the area. However, increasing tourists’ flows affect local economies and lives of local residents in a number of ways, not excluding negative effects. Careful consideration of benefits and pitfalls of the development of city tourism is necessary in order to sustain balanced urban development. In the present article, we evaluate experience of tourism development in 10 German cities—capitals of German cultural tourism. Our analysis is focused on the effect of city tourism on the well-being of urban residents. To address this issue, we study the effect of tourists’ nights spent in the centers of cultural tourism on the satisfaction with life of urban residents. Based on the results of the study, we suggest policy implications for the development of urban tourism that leads to improvements of the quality of life of locals.

Abstract (sommario):
The development of the tourism, as a promising direction of socio-economic development of urban and rural areas, defines new approaches to the development of urban planning design documents. In this aspect, the connection is established between the types of tourism activities and urban planning facilities that are necessary for the implementation of the tourist approach. A matrix of town planning objects is proposed depending on the types of tourism. It allows to determine the direction and the formation of objects providing tourist activities, the placement of which should be reflected in the master plan of the city. The importance of developing regional and local standards for urban planning, taking into account the development of the tourism industry is demonstrated.

Abstract (sommario):
e-Tourism is a tourist recommendation and planning application to assist users on the organization of a leisure and tourist agenda. First, a recommender system offers the user a list of the city places that are likely of interest to the user. This list takes into account the user demographic classification, the user likes in former trips and the preferences for the current visit. Second, a planning module schedules the list of recommended places according to their temporal characteristics as well as the user restrictions; that is the planning system determines how and when to realize the recommended activities. Having the list of recommended activities organized as an agenda (i.e. an executable plan), is a relevant characteristic that most recommender systems lack.

Abstract (sommario):
A city that does not have a bright tourism brand needs to take special approaches to planning and implementing a tourism strategy. Such a strategy should be an integral part of the overall city development strategy, consider the interests of all stakeholders, have its own vision, scenarios, projects. An intercultural approach from "history to the present", emphasis on different target groups, active partnership with business and community are the basis for formulating an effective city development strategy. The author considers an example of strategy development for Vinnytsia using strategic, project and operational management methods and tools. The directions of analysis and development from vision to real scenarios and vice versa from scenarios to strategic map of development allow to form a real strategy of tourism development. In each direction the main functions of management are considered: planning, motivation, organization, control. The analysis of the overall strategy of the city development revealed the direct and indirect strategic projects that influence the development of tourism. W. Disney's (improved by R. Dilts) technique was used to form a vision for tourism development in the city. The main modern slogan of the development strategy of the Vinnytsia city - "City of ideas" - for tourism strategy has been transformed into the slogans "Tourist city of ideas" and "City of tourist ideas". Each of the directions of the overall city strategy is adapted to aspects of tourism development. Analysis of tourism development strategies of such cities as Zaporizhzhia, Mukachevo, Khmilnyk; a review of scientific articles on tourism strategy development has allowed us to draw on a general outline for strategy development and generate a strategic map using Google software. The analysis of the results of the activities of the the City Marketing and Tourism Department for 7 months revealed some duplications and mistakes in the formation of development goals, lack of differentiation of directions and development of partnership. The author offers rough drafts of vision, mission. In addition, recommendations were made for the City Marketing and Tourism Department. The author proposes to adapt the technology of detailing each of the directions of tourism development in the city and to position each specialist in the strategy map. The result of the research is the proposed methods and draft essays for the formation of tourism development strategy in Vinnytsia.

Abstract (sommario):
This study used 268 household and 13 key informant interviews to get the views of Livingstone city residents on economic, environmental and sociocultural effects of tourism on local households and the city. Results show very few economic benefits at household level with residents perceiving big tourism-related businesses, the state and its officials to be the main beneficiaries. Although tourists were commended for helping vulnerable residents, they were blamed for contributing to prostitution and diseases by local residents; and were targeted for petty thefts by unemployed youths. Sociocultural effects of tourism are significant for residents but are routinely ignored or glossed over by tourism development practitioners. Tourism had resulted in a general improvement in the city environs. It is concluded that tourism development projects must target increased benefits for residents to increase benevolent attitudes from them towards tourism in their city, and to ensure a more sustainable variant of tourism is achieved in the tourist capital.

Abstract (sommario):
The promotion of low-carbon city tourism is an important measure to reduce carbon emissions in various regions and realize sustainability. This research explores tourists’ sensory experience in the city’s low-carbon tourism economy, environment and society from urban low-carbon tourism and providing relevant units with a blueprint for urban low-carbon tourism planning. This research accompanies the empirical cases and introduces Gray Relational Analysis to overcome the difficulties in practice, sometimes due to cost and time constraints, that strategies must formulate with little information, little data, or uncertainty. The research results show that the top low-carbon tourism evaluations of Tainan’s business districts by tourism experts are An-Ping Business District and ChengKung University Business District. Relevant planners can refer to this ranking and weight to analyse sensory marketing opportunities to help create a more attractive low-carbon tourism city.

Abstract (sommario):
This article provides a review of the indicators for safe urban tourism after evaluates the urban tourism concept which related to the tourism industry and the implementation of the safe city model towards the Malaysia urban area. This research uses the basic idea of a safe city model for proposing a conceptual framework in safe urban tourism. Content analysis is used to identify the principles indicators of safe urban tourism from the established literature, relevant reports and works. A theoretical framework of indicators for safe urban tourism was then formulated to be the main outcome of the study. The framework consists of a list of three groups (3) indicators of safe urban tourism which is (i) safe city factors, (ii) safe urban tourism factors and (iii) crime prevention strategies and step to be considered throughout the safe urban tourism development process. Given that research in safe urban tourism is still at its infancy and largely absent in the Malaysian context, this study aims to fill that research gap and contributes towards an existing scholarship. The theoretical framework is very useful to provide an essential guide to the stakeholders (Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Town and Country Planning Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall) and researchers for formulating a clear guide of sustainability principles to be integrated into the development of future safe urban tourism in Malaysia.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose This study aims to illustrate the impact-assessment procedure of low-carbon tourism (LCT) program implemented in a world heritage city and to develop specific indicators toward sustainability. Design/methodology/approach The impact-assessment framework was indicator-based and designed for creating sustainable tourism (ST) in a case study. A set of indicators in various dimensions was developed and applied, referring to the UNWTO guideline. A mixed method of primary and secondary data collected from different sources included document review, site observation, key informant interview, questionnaire survey and focus-group discussions. Assessment of actual/observed impacts was proceeded based on the data collected from tourists and stakeholders, especially on tourist behaviors and resource consumptions. Findings The implementation of LCT program in a world heritage city provided impacts in different dimensions and characters. The observed activities were majorly tourism activities in accommodations and recreational places. The indicator initiation is the first development toward sustainability in a case of tourism study in a city destination. Indicators were developed with participation from key stakeholders and covered sustainability and carbon-emission dimensions. Impact-assessment results show a positive theme in less carbon emission, enhanced local income distribution and community capacity. However, the negative impacts include increased amounts of resource consumption and waste generation in visiting sites. The impact matrix works as the map for decision-makers to maximize benefits and manage the cons of the LCT program toward ST principles. Research limitations/implications Research methodology, procedure and results on impact assessment with holistic perspectives imply academic contribution and practical benefits for decision-makers regarding ST development. The number of samples and enterprises was limited because of the program implementation period. Originality/value The research illustrates the impact-assessment process for an implemented city-based LCT program toward ST, where stakeholder participation was also functioning. A list of indicators was specially designed and can be practically applied for other LCT programs in city destinations. Applying a sustainability impact-assessment framework to the program can provide a clear presentation on how to develop ST.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to assess the resilience of tourism businesses in a coastal city in the USA to coastal hazards and severe weather events. The researchers developed a framework for assessing the resilience of coastal tourism businesses and demonstrated the applicability of the framework using the case study of Virginia Beach. Design/methodology/approach Researchers conducted structured, face-to-face interviews with tourism business owners and managers, using an instrument based on an assessment framework with five components: vulnerability, business planning and operations, preparation and recovery planning, communications and workforce. In total, 32 participants representing 42 businesses in the accommodations, restaurants, retail and activities sectors at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront were interviewed. Findings Many participants did not feel highly vulnerable due to structural mitigation efforts taken by the city. Larger businesses undertook more strategic planning, preparedness and recovery planning. All businesses had effective ways of communicating with staff and customers, and through membership in local organizations, had access to resources. While not all businesses prioritized training for employees, they recognized the importance of providing support for staff during severe weather events. Originality/value As one of the few studies on tourism resilience in the USA, this study highlights the variability of resilience among tourism businesses within a destination.
