Testo completoIn this thesis, we propose innovative solutions for thermal management using vanadium dioxide (VO₂), a material with a metal-insulator transition (MIT), to design multilayer coatings whose radiative properties are fully controlled by temperature, without requiring any external energy input. After studying the validity of Kirchhoff's law to predict the thermal emission of anisothermal structures, we propose an innovative design for a VO₂-based glazing system to address the issue of thermal management in buildings. This glazing, self-regulated by the greenhouse effect and the presence of VO₂, demonstrates excellent thermal insulation performance while maintaining good transmission properties in the visible spectrum.Next, we designed, fabricated, and characterized a multilayer coating based on VO₂ for thermal switch applications. This coating exhibits an infrared emissivity opposite to that of bulk VO₂ and is capable of emitting significant heat flux above the critical temperature of VO₂, while emitting much less below this temperature. This type of thermal switch with positive differential emissivity paves the way for numerous applications in radiative cooling and thermal protection

Testo completoMerocyanines derive from the spiro bond cleavage of photochromic spirooxazines. Although merocyanines are generally unstable, appropriate conditions can stabilize them. Two series of spirophenanthrolinoxazines and spironaphthoxazines bearing the O-Alk chain in position 5 have been studied. According to their structures, different techniques allow to open the spiroform and to stabilize the merocyanine. For spirooxazines of phenanthroline series, the merocyanine content raises significantly with the solvent polarity. For spironaphthoxazines, protonation turns the solution red and negative photochromism has been observed under visible light irradiation. Numerical modelling has been applied to analyse the recorded data within the two series. Several interesting photochromic parameters have been determined. The investigated properties have great potential applications for future specific sensors or logic elements

Testo completoIn this work, we have prepared organophosphorated ligands based copper(I) or gold(I) dimers that act as efficient molecular clips thanks to metallophilic interactions. Firstly, a bimetallic copper(I) complex bearing bis(2-pyridyl)phosphole ligands was used as a molecular clip to organize monotopic cyano-capped pi-systems carrying various pi-conjugated fragments into self-assembled pi-stacked dimers. These dimers organized in the solid state within infinite columnar pi-stacks. Secondly, a bimetallic gold(I) complex bearing a biphosphole ligand was used as a molecular clip to organize ethynyl-capped [6]helicene moieties into self-assembled dimers. These dimers showed an enhancement of the chiroptical properties as compared to the free ethynyl[6]helicene ligand. Thirdly, a bimetallic copper(I) complex bearing 1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm) ligands has revealed a powerful molecular clip to design self-assembled supramolecular architectures by reaction with different cyanometallates. These supramolecular derivatives have different topologies and are emissive in the visible spectrum upon UV excitation and in some cases they showed intriguing thermochromic luminescence properties

Testo completoWhen colonizing the digestive tract of monoxenic rats, Ruminococcus gnavus E1, isolated from human feces, produced a trypsin-dependant anti-Clostridium perfringens bacteriocin, RumC. LEM 9-17, able to produce RumC in vitro, was generated by random mutagenesis. RumC was purified from E1-monocontaminated caecal content and LEM 9-17 culture supernatant. In both cases, 2 fractions, the 1st one containing a 4235Da peptide, and the 2nd one two peptides of 4324Da and 4456Da were identified. The N-terminal sequence of the peptides present in both fractions was highly homologous, but Edman degradation reaction was blocked after the 11th residue. Three non identical structural genes encoding pre-RumC, 2 coding for radical SAM enzymes and 8 with predicted functions in biosynthesis, secretion, regulation and immunity were identified on a 13,5 kb region of E1 chromosome. Moreover, the rumC-like genes were shown to be widely disseminated among the human fecal microbiota with a high conservation rate
García, Wong Alexis. "Oxidation of vanadium nitrides thin films : a novel method to form efficient thermochromic VO₂". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université de Lorraine, 2021. http://www.theses.fr/2021LORR0098.
Testo completoIn this thesis, we study the formation of vanadium dioxide (VO₂) from a two-step procedure. We demonstrate for the first time that high-quality thermochromic VO₂ can be obtained from the air oxidation of sputter-deposited VN and V₂N polycrystalline films. Depending on the annealing conditions (duration and temperature) VO₂ and V₂O₅ are the two principal phases formed during the oxidation process of the nitride films. The first oxide obtained is VO₂(M), which coexists with the precursor for a prolonged period at 450°C or suddenly disappeared at 525 and 550°C. For optimized durations at each temperature VO₂(M) is the predominant phase. For higher durations, the VO₂ phase is oxidized into V₂O₅. The thermochromic performance of the vanadium oxide films is strongly influenced by the oxidation duration. TEM analysis indicates that both VN and V₂N precursors follow different oxidation kinetics. Concerning the VN oxidation, there is an abrupt interface between the polycrystalline VN films and the formed VO₂. On the other hand, EELS results for the V₂N oxidation evidence a formation of a VN layer at the interface between the remaining V₂N layer and the growing VO₂ one. Besides, the influence of the V₂N thickness on the optical modulation properties of the formed VO₂(M) is studied. The oxidation of 100 nm-thick V₂N films on Si substrate yields a negative emissivity switch (Δε). On the contrary, the annealing of 445 nm V₂N samples produces a positive value for Δε. These findings indicate the possibility to control the sign of the optical modulation of the formed VO₂ depending on the initial thickness of the V₂N precursor. Furthermore, we investigate the oxidation of epitaxial VN thin films, which follow a different path than polycrystalline VN films, caused by the absence of grain boundaries in the epitaxial layers. This process depicts the epitaxial growth of a VO₂(B) layer on the remaining VN, as shown by TEM results. Finally, we apply a simple criterion to transpose the deposition conditions between the two sputtering machines used in the thesis based on the thermochromic performance

Testo completoThe target of this work is to create an intelligent label able to indicate if temperature has risen over a definite threshold. This control is highlighted by colour change. To meet industrial requirements (one or tow-step syntheses from low cost starting materials), we have studied diacetylenic compounds which can provide a great number of various molecules. Beyond industrial objective, this thesis approaches additional studies. To understand the thermochromic phenomenon, we have determined the structure of various compounds before and after the colour change by analytical techniques: solid NMR, Raman spectrometry, ESR, X-rays. We have also established structure/property relationships between the starting diyns and their thermochromic properties, especially influence of chains lengths and chemical functions (alcohol, ester, ether, amine, amide. . . ). We have identified a new family of thermochromic diacetylenic compounds (asymmetric monoesters) changing from blue (after UV irradiation) to red (after heating) at temperatures varying from -20 to +75°C according to the chains length. The blue intermediary product reacts very quickly to various stimuli and the red compound is insoluble, which has limited the field of usable analytical techniques. Nevertheless, various solid analyses have allowed us to propose a structure for blue and red compounds and a mechanism for the thermochromic behaviour. During UV irradiation, the diacetylenic conjugated system is transformed into a cumulene having free radical to its ends, then after heat we obtain a hyperconjugated polymer with double and triple bounds. Lastly, an X-rays study has allowed us to understand why some compounds turn red whereas others not, crystalline structure of the starting compound playing a very important role in thermochromic phenomenon

Testo completoThis work is incorporated within the framework of a Cifre thesis with the partnership of the VIESSMANN Faulquemont SAS society to end in a new generation of absorbent layer in order to regulate the temperature of a solar cell in a passive and reversible way. This absorbent layer is based on vanadium dioxide (VO2), this thermochromic material exhibits a phase semiconductor to metal transition depending on its temperature. In a first step, the synthesis of VO2 films at 500 °C will be exposed and then we will present a new process to obtain a pure VO2 phase with a film deposited at room temperature. The study in temperature of the optical and electrical properties of these two kinds of coatings will be discussed, same as the effects on the phase transition of parameters such as the grain size or the internal stresses. Eventually, we will study the physical properties of a VO2+V4O9 two-phase system as an absorbent layer which is, in fine, very beneficial for the thermal regulation of a solar panel

Testo completoStrongly correlated oxides are studied widely for the host of unique applications, such as hightemperature superconductivity, colossal magneto resistance, exotic magnetic, charge and orbital ordering, and insulator-to-metal transitions. Transitional metal oxides which form the majority of the correlated oxide systems and oxides of Vanadium, especially VO2 and V2O5 are the two most favourite systems among researchers for several applications. In this thesis, the growth and characterization of VO2 and V2O5 are discussed along with a special focus on the optical property, especially thermochromic properties. Traditionally SMT behaviour and Infrared reflectively was the focus area for VO2 research, and its only until recently that VO2 is being treated as a much more complex system and investigated as highly responsive naturally disordered metamaterial near the phase transition temperature where the material exhibits semiconducting and metallic phase co-existence. Since each phase of VO2 has a distinct optical and electrical properties, controlling the extent of phase transitions by accurate temperature modulation, enables exploitation of the material for new properties like emissivity modulation in the NIR region and for creating IR visible reversible and rewritable patterns. V2O5 is traditionally seen as a high TCR material and regarded as material of choice for application ranging from catalysis, gas sensors to lithium batteries. In this study, however we focus on the optical properties of the material, especially the visible range thermochromic nature of V2O5 coatings synthesised by oxidative annealing of MOCVD grown VOx coatings. The impact of doping and selective oxygen vacancy generation on the thermochromic property are discussed

Testo completoRare-earth nickelates (RNiO₃) are an intriguing system to study the structural changes correlated to the physical properties. They belong to the perovskite family and exhibit a fascinating and unusual property: the metal-insulator transition (MIT). It allows a change in the material behavior by varying the size of the rare-earth (R) or the temperature. Therefore, they are a promising candidate for solar thermal applications, where a thermochromic absorber layer is crucial for passive thermal regulation. However, nickelates are complex to synthesize, and a simple way to elaborate them would make possible their use on an industrial scale. In this work, we provided for the first time a soft-synthesis route to obtain thermochromic samarium nickelate (SmNiO₃) thin films. The optimization of a two-step procedure based on reactive magnetron sputtering and air-annealing achieve the elaboration of such challenging material in a soft-synthesis way. The detailed structural, electrical, optical, and electronic characterization are presented, showing a reversible behavior with a transition temperature (TMI) between 128 and 138 °C and a transmittance change at 8 µm of up to 32%. Furthermore, the understanding of the mechanisms involved in our synthesis process is also investigated. Mainly, a thermo-kinetic approach to the crystallization progression was developed, as well as the analysis of the Ni³⁺ stabilization with the annealing time. Besides that, the thickness impact on the internal stress state before and after annealing was evidenced. Finally, the MIT control was corroborated through Nd1-xSmxNiO₃ solid solutions, lowering the TMI from 138 to 60 °C for various chemical compositions. The combination of 20 at.% Nd and 80 at.% Sm was characterized in depth, and its crystallization on aluminum substrates was also evaluated

Testo completoAn efficient solar absorber should possess both high solar absorption (> 90%) in the wavelength range of visible (0.4 < λ <0.8 μm) and near infrared (0.8 < λ <2.5 μm) and low infrared emissivity (<10%) in the wavelength range between 6 and 10 μm. At the same time, it is possible to regulate the temperature inside the collector using thermochromic materials, able to reversibly change their optical properties as a function of temperature owing to metal-insulator transition that occurs at a specific temperature (TMI). Previous works have highlighted the suppression of overheating when using a selective absorber coating based on VO2. However, the transition temperature of this material (68 °C) is too low resulting in poor performance of the collector during normalization tests. This brings us to study different systems with optical behavior similar to that of VO2, but the thermochromic effect in which would be initiated at a TMI close to 100 °C. For this work we considered four rare-earth perovskite systems LaCoO3, LaNiO3-δ, NdNiO3-δ and SmNiO3-δ. Thin films of these materials were synthesized by magnetron sputtering followed by annealing in air during several minutes. Their physical properties were then analysed using different techniques such as SEM, XRD, TEM, FTIR, and IR camera. First, the study of the cobaltite LaCoO3 demonstrated a strong dependence of the optical properties of the material on the post-annealed thickness of the film; significant emissivity variations (Δε maximum of 64%) were achieved. We also demonstrated the heterogeneity of La and Co stoichiometric distribution for the manufacturing process on a semi-industrial scale, which requires homogenization by diffusion of the chemical elements during the crystallization annealing. The second part of this study was devoted to rare-earth nickelates. Indeed, LaCoO3 demonstrates a higher emissivity variation than VO2 we have not succeeded in lowering its TMI. Therefore, a nickelate is a good candidate for the considered application since TMI for materials of this family can be adjusted to 100 °C. However, this type of materials require stabilization of nickel in its + III oxidation degree resulting in oxygen deficient structures of the ReNiO3-δ type. After optimization of the experimental conditions, XPS and RBS studies allowed to evaluate the chemical composition and the degree of oxidation for thin films of NdNiO3-δ et SmNiO3-δ

Testo completoIn this thesis, three main mechanisms proposed in a recent paper (Darbouli et al., Physics of fluids, 25(2) 2013) have been discussed to explain the onset of Rayleigh Bénard Convection in a yield fluid (Carbopol gels): i) the elasto-visco-plasticity behavior of the material below the yield stress, ii) a viscosity at low values of shear rates by creep measurements below the yield stress, iii) a microscopic viewpoint considering the fluid as a porous two phases system. No-slip conditions have been achieved for all the experiments. The results with different Carbopol gels have proved the importance of Y, the yield number which presents the report of the yield stress and the buoyancy effect, as the governing parameter. The critical value of Y^(-1) with no-slip condition has been found between 60 and 90. A visualization measurement with the utilization of thermochromics liquid crystals presents a global view from above. Different structures have been observed in different states of thermal conditions, which describe the evolution of the convection. For several cases the color of the liquid crystals can indicate the temperature field in the whole experiment cell. Numerical simulations with a Herschel-Bulkley model have also been discussed in this thesis. The dimensionless parameters are defined approaching the values obtained in the experiments, so that we can compare the numerical results with some of experimental ones

Testo completoThe present PhD work is focused on the study of the LaCoO3 system deposited as a thin film by reactive magnetron sputtering. The first part of this work is dedicated to the influence of the deposition parameters on the film structure. The influences of heat treatment parameters and deposition total pressure on the thermochromic transition are discussed. We have shown that it is possible to control the ratio between the cubic and rhombohedral phases as well as the size of the crystallites through the control of our parameters. In a second part, we studied in detail the properties changes using synchrotron radiation and transmission electron microscopy. Our measurements have shown that the cubic phase and the crystallites size influence the spin of cobalt atoms and therefore the nature of the Co-O bonds. We have shown that a fine microstructure and a rhombohedral phase increase the thermochromic effect and the optical switch of the transition thanks to an increase in the population density at the Fermi level and a decrease of the optical gap

Testo completoThis manuscript describes the synthesis and characterization of new molecular systems based on phosphorus atom: we developed and studied π-conjugated systems based on phosphole and secondly supramolecular assemblies with phosphine ligand have been studied. Firstly, an introduction to the phosphole chemistry (history, synthesis methods, integration into π-conjugated systems) is presented. The first chapter describes the synthesis and physico-chemical study of phospholes derivatives having an extended π-system for the development of orange-red emitters in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Different molecular engineering involving the triple bond leads to modifications of the optical properties of the synthesized compounds by red-shifting their absorption and/or emission maxima. Chapter II describes the synthesis and the physical properties of complexes using phosphole based π-systems as linkers between two metal centers. New Fe (II), Pt (II) and Au (I) complexes have been developed and the electronic communication between the two metals is studied. The second part of the thesis work starts with a review on the emissive Cu(I) complexes. In Chapter III, are presented the syntheses, the structural and optical studies of new solid-state emissive supramolecular assemblies synthesized from pre-assembled Cu(I) molecular clips and stabilized by phosphine ligands (dppm or dpmp) with cyano ligands as linkers. Then in the final chapter new Cu(I) complexes are synthesized by using organic ligands with terminal nitrile functions as linkers. The solid-state luminescence properties of these new Cu(I) derivatives are studied according to their external environment and thermochromism, vapochromism and mechanochromism phenomena have been demonstrated for some of them

Testo completoThis thesis deals with the study of thermochromic glazing (TCG) exposed to solar radiation in building physics. This research work is part of the building envelope energy efficiency thematic. Indeed, the TCG, which is an innovative and dynamic technology, has the capacity to modulate its energy transmission according to its own temperature. For tropical areas where there is a large amount of solar energy, this type of glazing can, on its own, significantly reduce the transmission of heat inside buildings while maintaining a sufficient amount of natural light for the comfort of the occupants. The goal is therefore to model the behaviour of the TCG. First of all, a unique experiment in a tropical environment has been set up on a scale 1 experimental cell equipped with a TCG. It was possible to draw several conclusions from the observations: the temperature field of the TCG is sensitive to the absorption of solar radiation and presents a heterogeneous distribution when close masks are present (as in our case). From these experimental observations, an original model was proposed. It is, on one hand, the formulation of the function that governs the variation of the thermo-optical properties as a function of temperature; and on the other hand, a two-dimensional spatial discretisation model on the surface of the TCG taking into account the solicitations of solar radiation and close masks. The 2D model was then implemented in a global building system with the 1D thermal model and the daylighting model. All models have been integrated into PITAYA: Platform for the integrated thermal and daylighting analysis. Finally, the PITAYA models were compared with the measurements from the experiment for validation. The results of the thermal validation show that the model is reliable and accurate. Nevertheless, the results in photometry, which are encouraging, require further improvements to the model

Testo completoThis work is a CIFRE thesis between VIESSMANN Faulquemont SAS society and the laboratory Institut Jean Lamour. In order to strongly reduce the problems associated with high stagnation temperature, we present a new generation of solar absorbent layers based on a smart thermochromic vanadium dioxide thin film. Vanadium dioxide (VO2) is a material which exhibit a metal insulator transition (MIT) at a critical temperature of 68°C (Tc). The transition is accompanied by a change in crystallographic structure VO2(M), while a rutile-like structure VO2(R) is obtained at high temperature. This structural change induces a drastic modification of the optical properties. The synthesis of vanadium-based films is performed using magnetron sputtering. We proceed to a subsequent annealing in air to form crystalline films of about 400 nm thickness. In order to increase the thermochromic effect of our thin film (Δε) we study the temperature and duration of the annealing. In a second time we try to increase the emissivity switch between the low and high temperature phase by adding an aluminum doping. After optimization, scale up have been successfully done and the optimized parameters have been used to build a prototype of thermochromic selective layer that has been compared to the standard industrial solar absorber
