Pendsé, D. A. "Photodynamic therapy and focal therapy for prostate cancer". Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2012. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1353787/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Prostate Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. The incidence of prostate cancer has risen over the last two decades, although mortality rates have not increased to the same extent. For many men with localised prostate cancer the choice of treatment lies between radical surgery or radiotherapy and active surveillance. Evidence suggests that the survival benefits related to radical treatment are small, and that conservative management may be appropriate for many men. A strategy of focal therapy in prostate cancer aims to treat tumour foci within the prostate, without treating the whole gland, with a resultant reduction in side-effects. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is the use of a photosensitising drug, which when activated by light can cause cellular damage. Tookad is a new-generation photosensitiser, which is activated in vasculature. Phase I and II clinical trials of Tookad PDT in men with recurrent prostate cancer following radiotherapy have been performed. These studies show that it is possible to ablate prostate tissue with Tookad PDT. This thesis describes a phase I/II clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of Tookad PDT in men with primary prostate cancer. Treatments were performed under general anaesthetic, using 2mg/kg Tookad and interstitial light delivery via cylindrical diffuser fibres. 15 patients were included in part A (single-fibre, light-dose-escalation), 19 patients in part-B (multi-fibre, focal and whole-gland ablation). Follow-up was for 12-months, with assessment of treatment effect made on MRI. Post-treatment imaging demonstrated that prostate tissue can be ablated in a reproducible and controlled manner with Tookad PDT. Although genitourinary side-effects were relatively few, significant cardiovascular complications in this study lead to early termination of the clinical trial and withdrawal of the drug. Results suggest that Tookad PDT could potentially deliver either focal or whole-gland therapy. Further studies with modified photosensitsers are underway.

Abstract (sommario):

Machine Therapy is a new practice combining art, design, psychoanalysis, and engineering work in ways that access and reveal the vital, though often unnoticed, relevance of people's interactions and relationships with machines. Machine Therapy will be illustrated through the construction of several systems including re-appropriated domestic devices such as Blendie, wearble apparatuses such as ScreamBody, and body-signal-based companion machines - Umo, Amo, and Omo - that function through visceral interactions including breathing and non-verbal sounds. These systems will be used to explore themes of human-machine relations in terms of visceral, cathartic, and reflexive expressions and communications. This work incorporates elements from my technical research in digital signal processing, machine learning, mechanical engineering, and sensor design. Combining these areas of research and practice, I have been able to help manifest new objects and relationships that are unique in some aspects while maintaining quotidian familiarity in other aspects. These apparatuses enable unusual explorations of what we interact with when we interact with machines. I hypothesize that the answer will turn out to be much more than the machine itself, and will include our sense of self, agency in the interpersonal and political world, and our shared psychological, emotional, cultural, and perceptual approaches to the world. The importance of the parapractic elements and also the therapeutic properties of the Machine Therapy machines will be evaluated in studies of participants' interactive engagements with the machines as well as their affective responses to the machines.

The subject of the article is photodynamic therapy that first attracted widespread attention because many photosensitizers are taken up slightly more by cancers than by the adjacent normal tissue. Unfortunately, the dream that this might be exploited to give selective necrosis of cancers without damaging adjacent tissues has not been realized. Nevertheless, damage by photodynamic therapy in many normal tissues heals so well that the final result may effectively be selective necrosis of small tumors. Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this study was to determine the learning styles of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students and associate degree Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) students and identify any association between their learning styles and examine the association between gender and age by learning style. Participants included 337 DPT and PTA students attending CAPTE accredited institutions with doctoral DPT or associate PTA programs in Tennessee and southwest Virginia. The Felder (1996) and Soloman Index of Learning Styles (ILS) was used to determine learning style preferences within 4 learning style dimensions (active-reflective, sensing-intuitive, visual-verbal, and sequentialglobal). Demographics included program of study, gender, age, ethnicity, and highest level of education. Participants were 18-63 years (mean age 25.87, standard deviation 5.62, median age 24); 205 (60.8%) DPT students, 132 (39.2%) PTA students; 205 (60.8%) female, 132 (39.2%) male. Five research questions were evaluated using cross-tabulated tables with frequency counts, percentages, and chi square tests. Statistical significance was established using a .05 alpha. There was a significant difference in the active-reflective learning style among PTA students by age. However, there was no significant difference between the learning styles of DPT and PTA students. Participants were found to be balanced on the active-reflective dimension, sensing on the sensing-intuitive dimension, visual on the visual-verbal dimension, and balanced on the sequential-global dimension. All students displayed preferences were toward the active, sensing, visual, and sequential learning styles. This findings demonstrated that DPT and PTA students have a balanced learning style with a strong preference toward active, sensing, visual, and sequential. Therefore, teaching methods should provide an instructional environment that addresses these learning style preferences. The student’s awareness of his or her learning style will enable the learner to capitalize on strengths and develop areas of weakness. This ability to employ effective learning strategies will equip an individual for the challenges of his or her chosen profession and lifelong learning.

Ruppert, Margaret. "Group therapy integrated with CAT : interactive group therapy integrated with cognitive analytic therapy, understandings and tools". Thesis, University of East Anglia, 2013. https://ueaeprints.uea.ac.uk/53361/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This qualitative study investigated bringing Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) tools and understandings (Ryle & Kerr, 2002) into a time-limited (16 sessions) interactive, here-and-now, group therapy (Yalom,1985). Group members were not exposed to CAT or individual work with the two facilitators prior to the group. The study investigated the group members’ experience, particularly in respect of the CAT tools; the facilitators’ experience of integrating CAT tools and understandings into the group; and the adaptations made to use the CAT tools in the group. The six group members were all service users within a secondary mental health service. Data were post session feedback forms and focus groups which were analysed using Template Analysis (King, 1998). CAT tools were simplified sequential diagrammatic reformulations (SDRs), which were made in the group; a group reformulation letter and a group goodbye letter. Five members completed the therapy and three brought goodbye letters. The discussion focuses on whether the adaptations made to the tools undermined fidelity to CAT. Facilitators described only advantages in using the tools and their pre-group fears of the tools impeding the group work proved unfounded. Group members appreciated the letters but differed in their feelings about their diagrams but they did use each others’ diagrams within the group and reported finding this helpful. A criticism from them was lack of direction from the facilitators, particularly in recording exits on the diagram. This is discussed along with some of the limitations of the study, particularly the researcher being the only coder.

Abstract (sommario):
This research explores the overlap between community-based art therapy and school-based art therapy through the surveyed experiences of art therapists working in school settings, and informed by community-based art therapy components and characteristics identified in A Model for Art Therapists in Community Practice by Dylan Ottemiller and Yasmine Awais. A literature review focused on five components and characteristics identified within the community-based art therapy literature, and informed the review of school-based art therapy literature based on the community-based art therapy themes. A qualitative survey approach was utilized through the distribution and data analysis of an electronic survey and findings were enriched by the researcher’s participation in the development and implementation of a brief community-based art therapy program providing an art therapy experience to families receiving services at a domestic violence intervention center. Analysis of the data revealed three major themes and specific areas where school-based practice is facilitating community-based art therapy (CBAT) components and characteristics. The findings discuss which CBAT components and characteristics are and are not being facilitated within school-based practice, and in conclusion the research offers ways school-based art therapy programs may offer opportunities for community-based practice.

Abstract (sommario):
The purpose of this study was to contribute an increased understanding of therapists' experiences working with therapy dogs in couple and family therapy. This qualitative study sought to describe the overall experience of therapists who work with therapy dogs in couple and family therapy, including managing the therapy dog's presence with more than one client and the benefits and challenges of doing so. Eight individuals participated in semi-structured interviews and areas of inquiry included how therapists made the decision to work with a therapy dog, how the therapy dog was managed in session, the impact of the therapy dog's presence (e.g. benefits and challenges), and recommendations for therapists who aspire to work with Canine-Assisted Psychotherapy (CAP) in their practices. The data was analyzed using transcendental phenomenology. Findings from the data analysis suggest that the majority of therapists who use CAP with couples and families find it to be beneficial for the therapists, the couples and families, and the therapy dog, with only a few challenges. Participants focused more on being flexible and observing the system's dynamics surrounding the therapy dog, whereas in individual therapy it appears that therapy dogs are included to fulfill a treatment goal or enhance a therapy model. Additionally, the majority of participants reported on the therapy dog's ability to help the therapist better understand their couple and family clients and overcome particular challenges when working with more than one client. The findings contribute to the CAP literature, have clinical implications, and provide areas for further exploration.

Costley, David John Frederick. "Antimicrobial sonodynamic therapy". Thesis, Ulster University, 2016. http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.725338.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Antibiotic resistance is an ever increasing threat to global health which is worsened by the lack of viable alternatives to antibiotics. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) involves the application of light, a sensitiser and molecular oxygen to generate cytotoxic radicals at a specific target and can be used in the treatment of both cancers and bacterial infections. The main limitation of PDT is the lack of penetration of light through tissue restricting PDT to superficial cancers and infections. Sonodynamic Therapy (SDT) is an emerging technique used in the treatment of cancer and involves the targeted generation of cytotoxic radicals through the application of ultrasound in the presence of a sensitiser and molecular oxygen. The advantage of using ultrasound is the ability to target deeper seated infections as it can penetrate further through tissue. Recent studies have indicated that SDT has the potential to be used in the treatment of bacterial infections. In this thesis, antimicrobial SDT will be investigated as a potential treatment for bacterial infections. Chapter 2 includes the methods and materials used in each of the three chapters. The first results chapter (Chapter 3) investigates a range of different sensitisers for their potential use in antimicrobial SDT and establishes ultrasound parameters to optimise treatment in Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antimicrobial SDT efficacy of the sensitisers were compared with their physiochemical properties to determine if any structure-activity relationship was evident. The results generated in this chapter demonstrated that the Gram-negative P. aeruginosa was less susceptible to the treatment than the Gram-positive 5. aureus. Of the sensitisers that were examined, Rose Bengal and Protoporphyrin IX were the best performers. While no unambiguous relationship was established between the structure of the sensitisers and their antimicrobial efficacy, there was a slight trend between the LogD of the sensitisers and their antimicrobial efficacy. These findings indicated that uptake of the sensitisers was a more important factor than the degree of cytotoxic radical generation. The second results chapter (Chapter 4) expanded upon the findings from Chapter 3 and involved the synthesis of a Rose Bengal-peptide conjugate that aimed to increase the efficacy of SDT in P. aeruginosa. It was observed that the conjugation of the peptide increased the uptake of Rose Bengal in P. aeruginosa and S. aureus which also coincided with a significant increase in the effectiveness of the SDT treatment towards P. aeruginosa. A pilot in vivo study also indicated that antimicrobial SDT may be an effective treatment for localised bacterial infections. The third results chapter (Chapter 5) investigated the potential of a combined antimicrobial near infrared (NIR) PDT / SDT treatment using newly synthesised iodinated cyanine dye- based sensitisers. Minimal reductions in bacterial viability were observed when using SDT with larger reductions observed using NIR PDT with the exception of P. aeruginosa which showed little to no response to PDT treatment. Simultaneous treatment of S. aureus with PDT and SDT proved very effective in clearing the bacterial population, however P. aeruginosa remained unresponsive to the combined treatment. Chapter 6 summarises the conclusions and provides an outlook for future work.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Section A presents a literature review on the topic of personal therapy for therapists. Section B presents a cross-national empirical study. Drawing on the theory of planned behaviour, the study explored the influence of subjective norms (social stigma) on clinical psychology students’ attitudes towards seeking personal therapy. A total of 462 students from Argentina (n = 121), England (n = 211), and the US (n = 211) completed a survey on demographic characteristics, well-known predictors of seeking therapy, perceived social stigma for receiving therapy, and attitudes towards seeking therapy. Results revealed significant cross-national differences, with Argentinean students showing the lowest levels of perceived social stigma for receiving therapy (M = 5.02, SD = 1.60), followed by English (M = 4.57, SD = 1.61) and Americans (M = 3.22, SD = 2.35). English students showed significantly less positive attitudes towards seeking therapy (M = 22.60, SD = 2.97) than their Argentinean (M = 24.89, SD = 2.94) and American (M = 24.27, SD = 3.17) counterparts. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses revealed that perceived social stigma predicts students’ attitudes towards seeking therapy, even after controlling for the effects of other predictors of therapists’ therapy-seeking behaviours, among English (ß = -.26, p < .001), and American (ß = -.34, p < .001) students but not among Argentinean students. The hypothesised role of nationality as a moderator of the relationship between perceived social stigma for receiving therapy and attitudes towards seeking therapy was confirmed. Implications for research and training are discussed. Suggestions are made for English and American clinical psychology training programs to raise awareness on social stigma associated with receiving therapy. Section C presents a critical appraisal of the process of conducting the present major research project, including learning outcomes, limitations, implications, and areas for future research.

Abstract (sommario):
This research explores the experiences and practices of Medical Art Therapists; specifically, how working with clients in a medical setting, often as a part of a multidisciplinary team, impacts the work of an Art Therapist. Researchers reviewed the general literature regarding children and adults’ experiences of hospitalization and utilization of psychosocial services. Medical Art Therapy literature is reviewed next, emphasizing work with children, families, and adults. Informed by the literature, researchers invited Medical Art Therapists to participate in a focus group and/or follow-up survey. Researchers conducted a focus group in which participants discussed their experiences and created response art. A survey was then sent to focus group participants and other respondents who were unavailable for the focus group. Researchers identified four categories that emerged from the survey data: “art as self-expression,” “categorization of Art Therapy,” “considerations specific to the medical setting,” and “range of utility” of Medical Art Therapy. Researchers used these categories to analyze data from the focus group and response art. An additional category emerged from these two data sets: “personal experience.” The response art naturally offered another category for analysis: “features of the art.” Researchers compared findings across all data sets and discovered meanings by setting these findings in the context of the general and Medical Art Therapy literature. Further research is warranted to support expansion in the field of Medical Art Therapy.

Abstract (sommario):
Play therapy and animal-assisted therapy are two specialized modalities within the field of counseling. Child-centered play therapy (CCPT) is a specific theoretical approach to play therapy that regards the therapeutic relationship as the primary healing factor. With much empirical support, CCPT is considered an effective mental health treatment option for working with children. Animal-assisted therapy in counseling (AAT-C) is acknowledged in the literature as a supplemental treatment modality to an existing counseling practice. Although past researchers have shown support for AAT-C as well as CCPT, there is a current dearth of literature examining the integration of these approaches. The present study sought to understand the approach of incorporating a therapy dog into child-centered play therapy while maintaining theoretical consistency. Using a constructivist grounded theory approach, I facilitated child-centered canine-assisted play therapy (C3APT) services for four children and reviewed the sessions with expert supervisors in AAT-C and CCPT. Three major themes emerged from the data: (a) principles of C3APT, (b) procedures of C3APT, and (c) relational dynamics. Implications for clinical practice and training of both therapy dogs and C3APT practitioners are also discussed.

Gower, Philip. "Therapist competence, case conceptualisation and therapy outcome in cognitive behavioural therapy". Thesis, University of Exeter, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10036/3275.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Clients rarely present with prototypical presentations for which an “off the shelf” cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) approach can be used, and the most frequently cited rationale for case conceptualisation is matching clients’ unique presentations and therapy goals with available theory and research. In this, it is argued that case conceptualisation guides therapy by ensuring that individual cognitive and behavioural processes are targeted, thereby maximising therapy efficacy. Therefore, therapists who are competent in case conceptualisation should achieve better outcomes. However, little is known about the relationship between competency in case conceptualisation and general CBT competence, or how competency in case conceptualisation is linked to therapy outcome. Forty audiotapes selected from an ongoing study (CoBalT: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as an adjunct to Pharmacotherapy for Treatment Resistant Depression in Primary Care: a randomised controlled trial) were rated for competency in case conceptualisation and competence in CBT using the Collaborative Case Conceptualisation – Rating Scale (CCC-RS) and Cognitive Therapy Scale – Revised (CTS-R) respectively. The assessment of competence was carried out by independent groups of researchers with expertise in these assessments, blind to treatment outcome. Therapy outcome was measured using The Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II). The results showed that 1) competence in case conceptualisation shared a strong and positive relationship with general CBT competence and, 2) that competence (in case conceptualisation and general CBT competence) was associated with better treatment outcome for depression. The results highlight competence in case conceptualisation as an important facet of therapist CBT competence, and indicate that investing in the training and selection of therapists competent in case conceptualisation as well as CBT competence has the potential to enhance treatment outcomes.

Syzdek, Brian M. "Adapting Parent-Child Interaction Therapy to Train Wilderness Therapy Camp Staff". Thesis, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, 2014. http://pqdtopen.proquest.com/#viewpdf?dispub=3637188.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):

Wilderness therapy camps have been found to be effective for treating a number of youth issues and for generally improving youth functioning. In addition, wilderness therapy camps appear to address current treatment needs of reducing stigma in treatment and providing other benefits, such as physical and social health benefits. However, currently wilderness therapy camps lack systematic training for staff that has been deemed efficacious, utilizing evidence-based techniques. Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an evidence-based therapy (EBT) for use with children with a variety of issues and backgrounds and in diverse settings, useful for reducing child problematic behaviors. Efforts have been made to expand the use of PCIT in a variety of settings, with promising results.

This dissertation proposes to describe how PCIT might be adapted to train wilderness therapy camp staff in evidence-based methods for working with youth, especially those with mental health needs, such as behavioral issues. The literature concerning PCIT and wilderness therapy camps is reviewed. A needs assessment was conducted, consisting of interviews with key informants, experts in the field of wilderness therapy, PCIT, and training methods. Based on information obtained, a full program for training camp staff, called Counselor-Camper Interaction Training (CCIT) is proposed. Finally a proposal to evaluate the efficacy of this program is put forth. As part of the proposed evaluation, a financial assessment was conducted on the program, with the results presented.

Mastache, Martinez Claudia I. "A discursive study of therapy talk : the collaborative approach to therapy". Thesis, Loughborough University, 2004. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/7707.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The main goal of this thesis is to describe what happens in the collaborative approach to therapy from a conversation and discursive analytical perspective. The data we worked with are part of collaborative therapy sessions in Mexican Spanish Dialect. Chapter 1 is an introduction to two of the main social constructionist approaches to therapy, the `reflecting team approach' and the `collaborative approach' to therapy. This sets out the theoretical environment in which the therapy was done. Chapter 2 is a review of the state of the art in conversation and discourse studies on therapy talk and related fields, illustrating the type of analysis done up to now. Chapter 3 describes aspects of Mexican population that were part of the context in which the data originated; some notes on translation issues are included here. Chapter 4 is the first analytic chapter and it describes the dynamics in conversation of the English particle `okay' as found in Spanish therapeutic interaction. It shows both the work okay is doing when found in the therapists' discourse and what it is doing when found in the clients' discourse. Chapter 5 presents the analysis of instances of informality that were found in the data, arguing that aspects of an `egalitarian therapeutic stance' can be displayed in the participants' talk. Chapter 6 is a study on questions and therapy, more specifically it shows the questions that can be asked by the clients in therapy talk and the conversational job this is doing. Chapter 7 is an example of research done when taking as a starting point a category that is relevant for therapy and counselling: active listening. In reading through this thesis, the reader will find aspects of the therapeutic approach as displayed in talk. Examples of this are the displays in talk of the philosophical stance, such as being egalitarian in an institutional setting. Besides describing how theoretical assumptions can be displayed in talk, this work describes in detail several aspects of therapy talk.

Tsai, Mei-Hsiang. "Children in Therapy: Evaluation of University-Based Play Therapy Clinical Services". Thesis, University of North Texas, 2009. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc9914/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
There is a dearth of research available on child services in the community mental health setting in the fields of psychology and counseling. The purpose of this study was to conduct an experimental evaluation of university-based play therapy clinical services with children aged 3 to 10 years old and to explore dimensions of the effectiveness of child-centered play therapy (CCPT) with children. This study examined real-life clinical services to the largest number of child participants in decades of mental health research, especially in the field of play therapy. Archival data from cases of 364 children served through a university-based play therapy clinic in the southwestern United States was examined. The effectiveness of child-centered play therapy (CCPT) was measures by a decrease in a child's behavioral problems perceived by a parent/guardian measured by scores of the Internalizing Problems, Externalizing Problems and Total Problems on the Child Behavioral Checklist (CBCL) and a reduction of parent-child relationship stress manifested in the Child Domain, Parent Domain and Total Stress Score on the Parenting Stress Index (PSI). Data from pretest and posttest was gathered for use in the analysis. Independent samples t-test, repeated measures analysis of variance, and ordinary least squares regression, including effect sizes, were utilized to detect the differences between groups and the treatment effects. After receiving individual CCPT, results of this study demonstrated statistically significant differences on overall CBCL and PSI measures, with the exception on Parent Domain. Additionally, findings highlighted the effectiveness of individual CCPT through demonstrated moderate to large effects over time (partial η2 = .097 to .201). Individual CCPT also revealed very large effects (η2 = .26 to .37) when specifically examined with participants who completed play therapy treatment. Further, statistically significant predictions were found on CBCL and PSI measures, with the exception on Total Problems. Termination and family relationship concern variables were found as strong contributors on predicting greater improvement. Based on the statistical, practical, and clinical significances, the primary contribution of this study is the fully exploration of child characteristics and effectiveness of play therapy for children who seek mental health services.

Ford, Megan E. "Preference for Internet Therapy versus Traditional Therapy to Treat Postpartum Depression". ScholarWorks, 2018. https://scholarworks.waldenu.edu/dissertations/4626.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
A growing body of research has emerged about effective treatments for postpartum depression, specifically how the internet could become a pivotal and vital option for women with postpartum symptoms. With that in mind, the purpose of this quantitative study was to investigate whether women suffering from postpartum depression preferred traditional therapy treatment or internet therapy treatment. The nonexperimental survey design was used to assess differences between groups related to stigma, satisfaction with treatment, and perceived quality of treatment received. Data collected from a sample of 78 adult females, who had previously received postpartum depression therapy treatment, indicated there was no difference experienced between the treatment modalities. Results were calculated using an independent sample t-test, noninferiority design, and it was determined that participants perceived no difference in their experience of stigma, treatment satisfaction, and perception of credibility and quality between the two therapy modalities. This study adds to the growing body of literature that suggests internet therapy may be a viable option for some women. The results encourage positive social change in that psychologists may advance clinical practice through incorporating technology into their treatment plans, thereby benefiting women who suffer from this condition and who may not be able to readily access a therapist's office on a weekly basis.

Worthington, Hannah Ruth. "Termination in therapy : a comparison of cognitive behaviour therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy". Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/25338.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
A significant amount of literature and research exists exploring the development of the therapeutic relationship in psychotherapy; however in comparison literature on termination remains relatively lacking. This study compares Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) on various components of termination and also aims to correlate amount of termination activity with therapeutic outcome. A content analysis of 42 final (or penultimate) therapy sessions was carried out using a coding scheme derived from the Termination Behaviour Checklist – Therapist (Quintana & Holahn, 1992). Qualitative analysis sought to illustrate quantitative findings in more detail. Overall there was a significantly greater amount of termination activity in IPT sessions compared to CBT. In particular, specific findings were significantly more evaluation of therapy, closure of the therapeutic relationship and greater patient expression of affect, in IPT in comparison to final sessions of CBT. There was no significant difference between therapeutic interventions in terms of discussion of the patient’s future. A significant positive correlation between amount of termination activity and a reduction in symptoms of depression was found. These findings are consistent with theoretical orientation, in which IPT explicitly defines a phase of termination of therapy and a cognitive-behavioural approach emphasises relapse prevention. Implications are for a greater focus on other aspects of the termination process in CBT. In addition the finding that amount of termination activity was related to a reduction in symptoms of depression, alerts therapists to an awareness of managing termination when patients have not experienced an expected improvement in presenting symptoms.
