Testo completoThis work is concerned with the development, calibration, and numerical implementation of a novel fully explicit isotropic, rate-independent, elasto-plastic model for porous metallic materials. The microstructure is assumed to consist of a random, with uniform probability, distribution of randomly oriented spheroidal voids of the same shape. The proposed model is based on earlier homogenization estimates that use a Linear Comparison Composite (LCC) theory. The resulting expressions exhibit the simplicity of the well known Gurson model and, thus, its numerical implementation in a finite element code is straightforward. To assess the accuracy of the analytical model, we carry out detailed finite-strain, three-dimensional finite element (FE) simulations ofrepresentative volume elements (RVEs) with the corresponding microstructures. Properparameter calibration of the model leads to fairly accurate agreement of the analytical predictions with the corresponding FE average stresses and porosity evolution. We show, both analytically and numerically, that the initial aspect ratio of the voids has a significant effect on the homogenized effective response of the porous material leading to extremely soft responses for flat oblate voids (e.g., aspect ratio less than 0.5) especially at high stress triaxialities.Next, we examine the computational issues related to the numerical implementation of rate-independent constitutive models that lead to softening behavior. It is shown analytically that elastic-plastic models based on ``local'' continuum formulations that do not incorporate a characteristic length scale may lead to loss of ellipticity of the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) and mesh-dependent numerical solutions. To remedy the associated numerical problems, we propose an implicit non-local version of the porous model developed in this work which is based on the introductionof a non-local porosity variable determined from the solution of an additional PDE. We show both analytically and numerically that the regularized version of the model allows for preservation of the elliptic properties of the governing equations yielding mesh-independent, converged solutions in the post-bifurcation regime. The bifurcation point (i.e., strain-to-localization) is found to be highly dependent on the micro-void's shape, with very flat voids (e.g., aspect ratio less than 0.3) leading to lower localization strains. The material length introduced by the non-local formulation is found tohave minimal effect on the predicted bifurcation point, only affecting the post-bifurcation gradient of the macroscopic stress-strain curve and the size of the highly strained zone in the structure. In the last part of this study, both the local and the non-local versions of the model are efficiently implemented in a commercial finite element code (ABAQUS). The models are used for the numerical solution of boundary value problems (BVPs) related to forming and ductile fracture processes under both quasi-static and dynamic conditions. In particular, the industrially relevant problems of Hole expansion (HET) and Charpy impact (CVN) test, the cup-and-cone fracture phenomenon as well as ductile fracture of a specimen with complex geometry and comparison with corresponding experimentalresults are analyzed in detail. Numerical predictions in all cases indicate that ductility is an increasing function of the void shape parameter and materials comprising flat oblate voids of low aspect ratio exhibit early macroscopic crack initiation and propagation compared to materials with spherical/almost spherical voids. Finally, the model's capability to reproduce experimental results with sufficient accuracy suggests that it can be utilized to provide predictions with only a small amount of parameters that may be calibrated from either micromechanics calculations or experimental data

Testo completoThe main aim of this thesis is to study large time behavior of unbounded solutions of viscous Hamilton-Jacobi equations in RN in presence of an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck drift. We also consider the same issue for a first order Hamilton-Jacobi equation. In the first case, which is the core of the thesis, we generalize the results obtained by Fujita, Ishii and Loreti (2006) in several directions. The first one is to consider more general operators. We first replace the Laplacian by a general diffusion matrix and then consider a non-local integro-differential operator of fractional Laplacian type. The second kind of extension is to deal with more general Hamiltonians which are merely sublinear

Testo completoThis work concentrates on the estimation and reconstruction of highly non-stationary signals having both non-linear amplitude and frequency modulations. We propose a new method for estimating the above mentioned signals with high additive noises. Most of the previously published work in this domain is plagued by shortcomings and at times even fails to address the problem of estimation. We have shown that by using a local approach, which provides flexibility to fit to the local variations of the instantaneous amplitude and frequency, the estimation results are improved significantly. The novelty of the presented work consists in the use of parametric models well-adapted and defined on short time segments. We have also proposed a new technique for obtaining short time segments from the entire signal. Finally, we propose a merging strategy to reconstruct the entire signal along with its modulations. The proposed estimation approach is great interest as it does not require a higher order model to estimate the entire signal. Initially, we validate the estimation effeciency of the local model considering a short time segment. This local model uses polynomial approximations of both local instantaneous amplitude and frequency, decomposed using a discrete orthonormal base which we derived. We also affirm that this base reduces the coupling of model parameters. Hence, the estimation accuracy is enhanced. Furthermore, we have compared two techniques to estimate the model parameters. The first approach is based upon the maximization of the likelihood function by means of an optimization stochastique technique named Simulated Annealing. The second approach uses the MCMC methods with Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. We demonstrate using simulations and real applications that the proposed approach improves both performance and robustness of signal estimation as compared to the existing Higher Ambiguity function based technique

Testo completoThis thesis is about the nonlocal properties of permuation symmetric states and the potential usefulness of such properties in quantum information processing. The nonlocality of almost all symmetric states, except Dicke states is shown by constructing an $n$-party Hardy paradox. With the help of the Majorana representation, suitable measurement settings can be chosen for these symmetric states which satisfy the paradox. An extended CH inequality can be derived from the probabilistic conditions of the paradox. The inequality is shown to be violated by all symmetric states. The nonlocality properties and entanglement properties of symmetric states are also discussed and compared, natbly with respect to persistency and monogamy. It is shown that te degeneracy of some symmetric states is linked to the persistency, which provides a way to use device independent tests to separte nonlocality classes. It is also shown that the inequalities used to show the nonlocality of all symmetric states are not strictly monogamous.A new inequality for Dicke states is shown to be monogamous when the number of parties goes to infinity. But all these inequalites can not detect genuine nonlocality. Applications of nonlocality to communication complexity and Bayesian game theory are also discussed

Testo completoThis thesis leads essentially to two conclusions. On the one hand we determine a lower bound for the Faltings height of abelian varieties over number fields in which enter new non-archimedean invariants. It consists in the first part of this work in which we introduce systematically this invariants. They are directly linked to the non-archimedean geometry of abelian varities at places of bad reduction. In a second part we provides an approximative evaluation of this invariants which leads to a lower bound on the Faltings heights in terms of the number of components of the special fiber of the Néron model of abelian varieties at places of bad reduction. We deduce from this estimates a corollary that provides an upper bound on the cardinality of the group of rational torsion points of abelian varieties essentially in terms of the Falting height. This bound is the best bound known till now

Testo completoControl theory is an interdisciplinary field that addresses the behavior of dynamical systems with the primary goal of managing their output. A specialized subset of this is mathematical control theory, which focuses on utilizing mathematical methods to analyze system behavior and design controllers. This involves applying differential equations, linear algebra, optimization, and various mathematical tools to comprehend, model, and regulate system behavior. These systems have extensive applications across robotics, automation, aerospace, electrical engineering, mechanical systems, robotics, biological and social systems, among others. Described by complex models such as partial differential equations, functional differential equations, and other infinite-dimensional models, these systems pose intricate challenges, rendering the analysis of their behavior a pivotal and intricate area of research. In recent years, the application of control theory to analyze and regulate the behavior of these systems has attracted significant attention. This thesis aims to investigate the approximate controllability of certain infinite-dimensional dynamical systems described by integrodifferential equations. The thesis is structured into three chapters, each addressing the problem of achieving approximate controllability in integrodifferential evolution equations equipped with nonlocal conditions. The first chapter introduces fundamental tools critical to establishing our main findings, including the theory of resolvent operators, multi-valued maps, duality mapping, mathematical control theory, and other essential concepts. Chapter 2 specifically focuses on the approximate controllability of semilinear integrodifferential evolution equations with nonlocal conditions of the form w(0)=w0+g(w). Here, assuming the linear part is precisely null and approximately controllable, we employ resolvent operator theory to present our main results. Chapter 3 centers on investigating the existence of mild solutions and the approximate controllability of integrodifferential evolution systems with multi-valued nonlocal conditions (w(0) belongs w0+g(w)). By using resolvent operator theory, we establish sufficient conditions for both existence and controllability. Introducing a general Kalman controllability criterion, we examine approximate controllability in linear cases and subsequently demonstrate it in nonlinear cases. Throughout these chapters, we provide illustrative examples to support our main findings
