Abstract (sommario):
The decade-long revolution known as May ’68 is commonly framed as a political protest radiating out from European and North American universities. However, much is gained by instead viewing May ’68 within the context of both anticolonial struggle and the emergence of what Wallerstein terms “the world university system.” Understanding student protests within the context of anticolonial struggle, including within African universities, reveals the extent to which the neoliberal university we inhabit today is the product of a profound counterrevolution designed to undermine the promise of the university as a site of radical and anticolonial transformation.

Abstract This commentary on the preceding six articles identifies those elements that contributed to Baltimore '68: Riot and Rebirth's success as a public history program, even as it raises questions about the program's long-term impact. It pays particular attention to the way the oral history interviews conducted as part of the program created a more inclusive public conversation about the Baltimore riot. It also recognizes the importance of the University of Baltimore's commitment to what is often termed the scholarship of engagement by marshalling institution-wide resources for the program; and suggests commonalities between engaged scholarship and public history. Finally, this commentary suggests that while Baltimore '68 was enormously successful as a public humanities program, the depth and duration of its civic impact are less certain, and as a consequence, it raises issues simultaneously organizational, conceptual, and social.

PrécisCet article met en évidence les liens entre le Mai français et les mouvements politiques et sociaux intervenus en Guinée, au Congo, au Sénégal ou à Madagascar. Il s'intéresse à la nature commune de ces différents mouvements : rôle de la jeunesse, alliance des étudiants avec les ouvriers et le « petit peuple », en interrogeant une même situation postcoloniale. Il s'attache à décrire les connexions ainsi que les communautés d'habitus entre des mondes, africain et européen, en devenir : échanges de pratiques et savoirs en matière de contestation et de répression, échanges universitaires, culture et lectures communes, et ainsi de suite. Il s'agit ici de penser les circulations des « années 68 » non seulement du Nord vers le Sud mais aussi du Sud vers le Nord, et d'intégrer Mai dans une configuration plus générale : celle des espoirs suscités et/ou déçus par la fin d'un empire.This article focuses on connections between France's May ’68 and political and social movements in Francophone Africa: Guinea, the Congo, Senegal, and Madagascar. As participants challenged their common postcolonial situation, these movements converged around the importance of youth and alliances between students, workers, and “the masses.” The article describes the emergence of French and African activist communities defined by a common habitus constituted by shared techniques of protest and responses to repression, academic exchanges, common interests, and reading. The purpose of the article is to examine the circulation of ideas and people through the “long 1968”—from South to North and vice versa—and to situate May ’68 within the broad range of expectations that the end of empire both raised and often disappointed.

AbstractStudy ObjectivesTo assess differences in cognitive impairment in a group of patients with schizophrenia receiving first-generation long-acting antipsychotics (FG-LAI) versus Aripiprazole long-actinginjectable (ALAI).MethodA descriptive, cross-sectional, multi-centerstudy.Study sample: 28 outpatients with stable schizophrenia (18 men and 10 women) with ages ranging from 22 to 64years.Inclusion criteria were: Clinically stable patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia (according to DSM-5 criteria) and without any changes to their antipsychotic or antidepressant therapy in the last six months.Simple stratified sampling was performed to collect data from patients with schizophrenia receiving FG-LAI (n=14) versus patients with schizophrenia receiving Aripiprazole long-acting injectable (ALAI) (n=14)Groups were matched by age, gender, years of evolution of the disease, and years on formal education.Functionality in the different cognitive domains was evaluated based on the Brief Assessment of cognition in Schizophrenia (BACS.), a hetero-applied instrument, which Spanish version has been validated. BACS evaluates the following cognitive domains:Verbal memory (V.M): Word list testWorking memory (W.M): Digit sequencing taskMotor speed (M.S): Token motor taskVerbal fluency (V.F): Semantic or category fluencyAttention (A): Symbol codingExecutive function (E.F): Tower of LondonThe data obtained were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 statistical package Differences between the means of quantitative variables were assessed using the independent-sample Student-t test. Individual test scores were converted into standardized (T and Z) scores and composite scores that were corrected for age and gender.Informed consent was obtained from all patients according to the Declaration of Helsinki (World Medical Association).ResultsIn the group receiving ALAI, the most severely impaired cognitive domain was attention, whereas motor speed was barely affected. In contrast, verbal memory was most impaired, whereas motor speed was the least impaired cognitive domain in the group receiving FG-LAI.Patients with schizophrenia taking ALAI showed a better cognitive function in all domains (except for motor speed and attention) than patients receiving FG-LAI.Summarized results in Table1.ConclusionsIn our study, patients with schizophrenia receiving Aripiprazole long-acting injectable have better cognitive function than patients receiving first-generation long-acting antipsychotics.

Abstract (sommario):
The article presents a methodology for examining a temporal sequence of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, as applied to the detection of the A-68 iceberg and its drifting trajectory. Using an improved image processing scheme, the analysis covers a period of eighteen months and makes use of a set of Sentinel-1 images. A-68 iceberg calved from the Larsen C ice shelf in July 2017 and is one of the largest icebergs observed by remote sensing on record. After the calving, there was only a modest decrease in the area (about 1%) in the first six months. It has been drifting along the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, and is expected to continue its path for more than a decade. It is important to track the huge A-68 iceberg to retrieve information on the physics of iceberg dynamics and for maritime security reasons. Two relevant problems are addressed by the image processing scheme presented here: (a) How to achieve quasi-automatic analysis using a fuzzy logic approach to image contrast enhancement, and (b) The use of ferromagnetic concepts to define a stochastic segmentation. The Ising equation is used to model the energy function of the process, and the segmentation is the result of a stochastic minimization.

The main aim of this masters thesis is the design and the realization of graphical user interface for constructionally-advanced prototype of biochemical device, which was realized in terms of the cooperation of ISMMB (Institute of Solid Mechanics, Mechatronics and Biomechanics) and IAI (Institute of Automation and Computer Science). The NI LabVIEW developing suite has been used as the main design tool of this software. This experimental device is used to investigate characteristics of spinal vertebra. The main aim of this thesis is to realize the control software, which is able to plan, initialize and record the long-term experiments on this device. This thesis is divided into theoretical and practical part. First part is focused on the description of the experimental device and sums all apointed requirements. This part also includes characterization of software tools, that has been used to realization in NI LabVIEW 8.6 development suite. The practical part deals with the design and successive realization of the developed application used for planning and controlling experiments, and also describes performed long-term tests. The solutions of a few fundamental problems, which were shown during these tests, are also included.

Comment se fait-il que la relation entre la gauche et l’armée, longtemps antagoniste ou du moins contrariée, ait pu évoluer entre 1968 et 1985 au point de s’institutionnaliser et de contribuer au consensus sur la défense nationale ? Trois notions centrales, l’une relative au rejet du rôle dévolu à l’institution militaire (l’antimilitarisme), l’autre à la place prévue pour les droits et libertés garantis par l’État pour l’état militaire (les libertés publiques), la dernière dédiée aux principes d’une politique militaire au nom des intérêts de la France (la défense nationale), forment le fil conducteur retenu pour cette thèse. L’armée, sortie brisée de la guerre d’Algérie, prise ensuite dans les contestations des « années 1968 », traverse une nouvelle crise au milieu des années 1970. Pourtant, ni elle ni la gauche ne sont des blocs monolithiques : de multiples acteurs, au gré des rapports de force, contribuent à des aggiornamenti croisés. Tandis que la gauche de gouvernement se rallie à la dissuasion nucléaire, accède au pouvoir et s’accommode des institutions de la Ve République, les militaires repensent leur rôle dans la société, revoient leur rapport à la discipline, et acceptent avec loyalisme, malgré la défiance initiale, l’arrivée des socialistes au pouvoir. Si l’heure est à la continuité en 1981, cette rencontre conduit à une désidéologisation et à une dépolitisation durable des questions militaires et de défense dans le débat public. Fondée sur un corpus d’archives militaires et policières, des institutions gouvernementales et parlementaires, des organisations de la gauche, et d’entretiens oraux, cette recherche entend montrer que l’histoire de la gauche française est indissociable de celle de l’armée
How was the relationship between the left-wing and the army, long antagonistic or at the least incompatible, able to evolve between 1968 and 1985 to the point of becoming institutionalised and contributing to a consensus on national defence? Three central notions form the main: the first relating to the rejection of the role assigned to the military institution (anti-militarism), the second to the place foreseen for the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the State for the members of the military (civil liberties), and the last dedicated to the principles of a military policy in the name of the interests of France (national defence). The army, broken after the Algerian war, then caught up in the protests of the "1968s", went through an new crisis in the mid-1970s. However, neither the army nor the left-wing were monolithic blocks: multiple actors, depending on the balance of power, contributed to cross-aggiornamenti. While the socialist government rallied in favour of nuclear deterrence, came to power, and came to terms with the institutions of the Fifth Republic, the military rethought its role in society, reviewed its relationship with discipline, and accepted the arrival of the left-wing in power with loyalty, despite initial mistrust. If the time was ripe for continuity in 1981, this encounter led to a de-ideologisation and a lasting de-politicisation of military and defence issues in public debate. Based on a body of military and police archives, governmental and parliamentary institutions, left-wing organisations, and oral interviews, this thesis intends to show that the history of the French left-wing is inseparable from that of the army

En Computación de Altas Prestaciones (HPC), con el objetivo de aumentar las prestaciones se ha ido incrementando el número de recursos de cómputo. Con el aumento del tamaño de las aplicaciones ejecutadas en computadores de altas prestaciones, también ha aumentado el número de interrupciones como consecuencia de fallos de hardware. La disminución en el tiempo medio entre fallos (MTBF) en los sistemas de cómputo actuales, fomenta la propuesta de soluciones de tolerancia a fallos apropiadas que permitan la finalización correcta de aplicaciones paralelas afectadas por fallos de componentes físicos. Por lo tanto, las técnicas de tolerancia a fallos son cruciales para aumentar la disponibilidad en computadores de altas prestaciones. Cuando son ejecutadas aplicaciones paralelas en computadores de altas prestaciones, los principales objetivos normalmente son: lograr una aceleración (speedup) cercana a la lineal, utilización eficiente de recursos y finalización correcta de las ejecuciones. Por lo tanto, los sistemas paralelos se enfrentan a un problema multiobjetivo que consiste en incrementar las prestaciones mientras se utilizan técnicas de tolerancia a fallos; dicha combinación en la cual se consideran prestaciones y confiabilidad se denomina en la literatura Performability. Las estrategias de tolerancia a fallos basadas en rollback-recovery han sido extensamente utilizadas en computación de altas prestaciones. Estas estrategias se basan en salvar el estado de la aplicación y cuando ocurren fallos las aplicaciones pueden volver atrás y re-ejecutar desde el último estado guardado (checkpoint). Estas estrategias introducen una sobrecarga durante la ejecución de las aplicaciones en aspectos que afectan a las prestaciones, tales como una sobrecarga en el tiempo de cómputo, uso de recursos, etc. Las estrategias de checkpoint no coordinadas permiten a los procesos salvar sus estados independientemente. Cuando estas estrategias se combinan con mecanismos de log de mensajes, se evitan problemas como el efecto dominó o la aparición de mensajes huérfanos. Las técnicas de log de mensajes son responsables de la mayor parte de la sobrecarga introducida durante ejecuciones libre de fallos. En esta tesis nos hemos centrado en disminuir el impacto de las técnicas de log de mensajes considerando tanto el impacto en las ejecuciones libres de fallos así en como en el tiempo de recuperación. Una de las contribuciones de esta tesis es un mecanismo de log denominado Hybrid Message Pessimistic Logging (HMPL). Este protocolo se enfoca en combinar las características de rápida recuperación de los mecanismos de log pesimistas basados en el receptor con la baja sobrecarga que introducen los mecanismos de log basados en el emisor en ejecuciones libres de fallos. Sin perder las ventajas de un sistema de log de mensajes pesimista basado en el receptor, el HMPL permite a las aplicaciones paralelas continuar con su ejecución inclusive cuando un mensaje no ha sido guardado totalmente en el log del receptor, y de esta manera se reducen las sobrecargas en comparación con los mecanismos de log pesimistas basados en el receptor. Para poder garantizar que no se pierde ningún mensaje, un mecanismo de log pesimista basado en el emisor es utilizado para guardar temporalmente mensajes, mientras los receptores se encargan de guardar totalmente el mensaje recibido. Además proponemos otras estrategias que permiten incrementar la performability de aplicaciones paralelas. Una estrategia consiste en evitar la degradación que ocurre como consecuencia de un fallo mediante la utilización automática de nodos de repuesto (Spare Nodes) para reemplazar nodos que han fallado. Teniendo en cuenta que las tareas de tolerancia a fallos son gestionadas por un middleware transparente al usuario, hemos propuesto una metodología que permite determinar configuraciones apropiadas de las tareas de tolerancia a fallos para disminuir la sobrecarga en ejecuciones libres de fallos. Esta metodología se basa en analizar el impacto del mecanismo de log de mensajes utilizado y configurar las ejecuciones paralelas disminuyendo la perturbación introducida. Además, hemos desarrollado una metodología para la ejecución de aplicaciones pertenecientes al paradigma Single Problem Multiple Data (SPMD). Dicha metodología permite obtener el máximo speedup teniendo en cuenta un umbral de eficiencia computacional definida y considerando el impacto de las tareas de un mecanismo de log de mensajes. Los resultados experimentales han mostrado que mediante la caracterización del impacto del log de mensajes en el cómputo y en las comunicaciones, es posible seleccionar un número de procesos o cores de cómputo que permitan hacer un uso eficiente de los recursos mientras se aumenta la performability.
In High Performance Computing (HPC) the demand for more performance is satisfied by increasing the number of components. With the growing scale of HPC applications has came an increase in the number of interruptions as a consequence of hardware failures. The remarkable decrease of Mean Times Between Failures (MTBF) in current systems encourages the research of suitable fault tolerance solutions which makes it possible to guarantee the successful completion of parallel applications. Therefore, fault tolerance mechanisms are a valuable feature to provide high availability in HPC clusters. When running parallel applications on HPC clusters the prior objectives usually are: almost linear speedup, efficient resources utilization, scalability and successful completion. Hence, parallel applications executions are now facing a multiobjective problem which is focused on improving Performance while giving Fault Tolerance (FT) support; this combination is defined as Performability. A widely used strategy to provide FT support is rollback-recovery, which consists in saving the application state periodically. In the presence of failures, applications resume their executions from the most recent saved state. These FT protocols usually introduce overheads during applications' executions. Uncoordinated checkpoint allows processes to save their states independently. By combining this protocol with message logging, problems such as the domino effect and orphan messages are avoided. Message logging techniques are usually responsible for most of the overhead during failure-free executions in uncoordinated solutions. Considering this fact, in this thesis we focus on lowering the impact of message logging techniques taking into account failure-free executions and recovery times. A contribution of this thesis is a Hybrid Message Pessimistic Logging protocol (HMPL). It focuses on combining the fast recovery feature of pessimistic receiver-based message logging with the low overhead introduced by pessimistic sender-based message logging during failure-free executions. The HMPL aims to reduce the overhead introduced by pessimistic receiver-based approaches by allowing applications to continue normally before a received message is properly saved. In order to guarantee that no message is lost, a pessimistic sender-based logging is used to temporarily save messages while the receiver fully saves its received messages. In this thesis we propose strategies to increase the performability of parallel applications. One approach focuses on avoiding performance degradation when failure occurs by using automatic spare node management to replace failed nodes. Taking into account that the fault tolerance tasks are managed by an user-transparent middleware, we propose a methodology that allows us to determine suitable configurations of these tasks in order to lower overheads in failure-free executions. This methodology is based on analyzing the message log impact and configuring the parallel executions decreasing the introduced disturbance. Another contribution of this thesis is a methodology that allows to obtain the maximum speedup under a defined efficiency threshold, considering the impact of message logging tasks for Single Program Multiple Data (SPMD) applications. Experiments have shown that characterizing the message logging effects in computation and communication, allows us to select a better number of processes or computational cores to be used in order to improve resource utilization while increasing performability.

Abstract (sommario):
This work proposes an appearance-based SLAM method whose main contribution is the Feature Stability Histogram (FSH). The FSH is built using a voting schema, if the feature is re-observed, it will be promoted; otherwise it progressively decreases its corresponding FSH value. The FSH is based on the human memory model to deal with changing environments and long-term SLAM. This model introduces concepts of Short-Term memory (STM), which retains information long enough to use it, and Long-Term memory (LTM), which retains information for longer periods of time. If the entries in the STM are rehearsed, they become part of the LTM (i.e. they become more stable). However, this work proposes a different memory model, allowing to any input be part of the STM or LTM considering the input strength. The most stable features are only used for SLAM. This innovative feature management approach is able to cope with changing environments, and long-term SLAM.
Este trabajo propone un método de SLAM basado en apariencia cuya principal contribución es el Histograma de Estabilidad de Características (FSH). El FSH es construido por votación, si una característica es re-observada, ésta será promovida; de lo contrario su valor FSH progresivamente es reducido. El FSH es basado en el modelo de memoria humana para ocuparse de ambientes cambiantes y SLAM a largo término. Este modelo introduce conceptos como memoria a corto plazo (STM) y largo plazo (LTM), las cuales retienen información por cortos y largos periodos de tiempo. Si una entrada a la STM es reforzada, ésta hará parte de la LTM (i.e. es más estable). Sin embargo, este trabajo propone un modelo de memoria diferente, permitiendo a cualquier entrada ser parte de la STM o LTM considerando su intensidad. Las características más estables son solamente usadas en SLAM. Esta innovadora estrategia de manejo de características es capaz de hacer frente a ambientes cambiantes y SLAM de largo término.

Background of the study Vietnam has become an emerging country and attractive retail market in the globe (Deloitte, 2014). Modern retail platform was introduced and have been blooming in Vietnam such as convenience stores, special stores and shopping centers (Trinh & Tran, 2014). The country is in the progress of transforming into digital economy, evidenced through high growth in electronic commerce and customer interaction through social network, etc. (Cameron et al., 2019). According to the Statista (2020), number of smartphone users in Vietnam was nearly 36 million in the end of 2019 and it is expected at 43 million by 2022. The growth in smartphone market was captured at 84% in 2017 and 95% of people in the cities have owned smartphone while the percentage of people with smartphone usage in rural area is reached up 68% (Nielsen, 2019). One of the attractive points in smartphone market is high population based with more than 94 million people (General Statistics Office, 2020). Vietnamese people spent more time reading news, playing games and conducting social interactions through social media network (Appota, 2018). Rationales Currently, Vietnamese people have variety of product choice in smartphone market. The survey conducted by Q&Me (2018) revealed top smartphone brands in Vietnam, including Apple, Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi and Nokia, in which the first three smartphone brands have gained high brand recognition from the respondents. Key competitive advantage of Apple is luxurious and strong proud-to-have image while Samsung is positioned as a band of quality and design and Oppo is more famous in term of its camera features (Q&Me, 2018). However, Apple has not been setup its official store in Vietnam while Samsung and Oppo have been integrated this modern sales services in big cities and provinces and both of them gained reasonably high market share of more than 63% (Vietnam Insider, 2019). When comparing between Samsung and Oppo, the researcher identifies that Korean manufacturer made its entry to Vietnam since 2009 while Oppo, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, have been entered the market since 2013. The gap is four year with advantage belonged to Samsung since it has established factories in the country. However, the market share between Samsung and Oppo is not so large. While Samsung consumed 38.44% of the market, Oppo was ranked in second place with 25.2% of the market share that turned Oppo to be second largest smartphone brand in Vietnam (Vietnam Insider, 2019). The question is how Oppo succeed in Vietnam has been raised after examining these figures or what the business model that is being adopted by Oppo to gain success in Vietnamese market. In addition, the researcher identifies that most of empirical evidences developed for Vietnam’s smartphone market focused on either consumer behavior in general (Wollenberg & Thuong, 2014) or consumer purchase and repurchase intention (Tran, 2018) or the role of mobile devices in retail industry (Dinh, 2017). There were no empirical evidences to explore the success of a smartphone manufacturer through their business model in the country. Thus, this study is developed under the urgent need of verifying business model of Oppo in order to identify its competitive advantages in comparison with other smartphone manufacturers. Research objective and research questions The study is developed with main objective of exploring the success of Oppo in Vietnam’s smartphone market. This research objective is supported following research questions: • What are the opportunities and challenges in Vietnam’s smartphone market? • How to address the success of Oppo in Vietnam’s smartphone market in comparison with other smartphone manufacturers through the analyses of components in Business Model Canvas? • Which part of the smartphone manufacturers should take account to gain advantages in the Vietnam market?

AbstractThe chapter explores the progress made by the 93 adoptees in the core follow-up sample in terms of physical and mental health and education from the time they entered their adoptive homes until they were followed up, on average 18 years later. It draws on data collected through responses to an online survey concerning 93 adoptees (44% of the cohort) completed at follow-up, and interviews focusing on 24 adult adoptees. On entering their placements, 40% of adoptees were developmentally delayed; 13% had poor physical health; 38% were in poor mental health. Emotional and behavioural problems affected their academic progress; 76% required specialist help. After placement, 74% improved in physical health, 66% in mental health and 68% in academic performance. The challenges faced by adoptive parents provide a powerful case for careful preparation and long-term post-adoption support.

<p>The city of Győr in western Hungary will be enriched with a significant transport investment of NIF PLC., a Hungarian infrastructure developer company. UNITEF’83 PLC. was commissioned with the design. The new road will cross the Mosoni-Danube over a spectacular new cable-stayed steel bridge. The future bridge is a 2-span, 68+144 meter-long box section structure, and its 65 meter-high inclined pylon will stand out from the city skyline. In addition to key design issues such as the global structural design and the details of the connections of the main load-bearing elements (cables), other structural problems requiring innovative solutions also arose during the design process. Several structural versions have been carefully analysed as early as in the initial phase of the design with the purpose of ensuring adequate torsional stiffness of the deck. Due to the sensitivity of the cable-stayed structure to the wind, cable vibration and the flow analysis of the beam and pylon also had to be carried out. The issue of construction technology had to be paid extra attention during the design procedure, since transportation by river and road were both limiting factors in the region. The paper covers the architectural and structural design of the future bridge in Győr, offering a brief outline of the most important details and solutions.</p>

There were approximately 1,620,000 surgical bone graft procedures in the United States in 2005 and 672,000 fracture reductions in 20061. The estimated economic costs for orthopedic injuries to upper and lower extremities collectively account for 17% ($68 billion) of total lifetime costs that originated in 20001. Over the past 15 years, significant efforts have focused on the development of bioactive, load-bearing polymeric materials designed to restore function within critical-sized bone defects. Traditional reconstructive approaches use autografting of the defects, but these approaches have significant limitations2. As a result, transfer of grafts greater than 2 cm are associated with an unacceptably high complication rate. Thus, the optimal skeletal extremity reconstruction would be one in which the reconstruction is performed with material that may be taken “off the shelf” to eliminate donor site morbidity, but is degradable and resorbable affording incorporation into the host.

Belinda McKay (2005, p. 68) observes that the Gold Coast is often seen as a place to escape to, ‘where new possibilities can be imagined and enacted’: this sense of escape from the ordinary remains a strong element of the Gold Coast’s place identity.

A minimum count survey of Dall?s sheep (Ovis dalli) in Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve was conducted from July 18 to 20, 2023. The Preserve was last surveyed in July of 2018. The current survey examined the same 7 core survey units as the previous survey and the Ogilvie Mountains. In the core area (the 7 units most often surveyed), 70 sheep (32 ewes, 13 lambs, 6 yearlings and 19 rams) were detected. This constitutes a 75% decrease from the long-term average (284 sheep, 1997?2018) and a 68% decrease from the last survey (221 sheep, 2018). There were 40 lambs, 19 yearlings, and 59 rams per 100 ewes in the core area. Declines varied by space and sex classes. Declines were greater in survey units with historically fewer sheep and lower proportions of ewes (91% decline; 5580 Mountain, Copper Mountain, Diamond Fork, Twin Mountain) versus the survey units with more sheep and higher proportions of ewes (67% decline; Charley River, Cirque Lakes, Mount Sorenson). Across the latter more populous survey units, ewes and rams declined by 70% and 40%, respectively, compared to the long-term average. For the first time, no sheep were observed in two of the survey units (Copper Mountain and Diamond Fork). In the Ogilvie Mountains, 26 sheep were detected (18 ewes, 4 lambs, 0 yearling and 4 rams) representing a 28% decline since the last survey. This translates to 22 lambs, 0 yearlings and 22 rams per 100 ewes.
