Abstract (sommario):
Thailand established district-level collaborations to improve citizens' quality of life and promote self-governance. Despite successful district-level collaborations to improve the quality of life (QoL) of older people through long-term care (LTC) policies, a lack of analysis of the collaborative process across the country persisted. To address this gap in knowledge, this study aimed to analyze the collaborative process at the district level in implementing LTC activities in Thailand. In this study, qualitative research was employed to collect data through in-depth interviews and non-participating observations during collaborative meetings in four regions of Thailand. The findings of this study indicate that in Thailand, district-level collaboration was overseen by the Committee for the Improvement of the Quality of Life at the District Level (CIQ), which comprised representatives from the public, private, and civil sectors. The CIQ was responsible for improving the QoL of older people and its activities included member selection, appointment, problem identification, problem prioritization, problem-solving planning, task delegation, joint operation, and monitoring. This collaboration was implemented in accordance with legal preferences for decentralization and has contributed to the effective and appropriate implementation of LTC operations. Furthermore, the collaborative approach utilized in this study may also be applicable to other collaborative operations.

Abstract (sommario):
The Thailand-Japan Research Collaboration Center on Emerging and Re-emerging Infections (RCC-ERI) was established in 2005 by the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases (RIMD), Osaka University, in collaboration with the National Institute of Health (NIH), Department of Medical Sciences (DMSc), Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Thailand. This was initiated based on the recognition that, with today’s highly developed transportation networks including those between Japan and Thailand, infectious disease outbreak and transmission are no longer limited to a single country. Indeed, such diseases are likely to be transmitted immediately to a third country. This makes it essential to cooperate globally in exchanging information fast and often. A dozen Japanese researchers are working regularly at RCC-ERI, where they conduct joint research with Thai researchers on bacterial and viral infectious diseases prevailing in Thailand that could conceivably affect Japan. Examples of such diseases include cholera, meningitis with Streptococcus suis, AIDS, chikungunya fever, and dengue fever. Conducting long-term research in other countries often reveals gaps in perception due to differences in national laws and regulations, in rules and operating customs within research institutions, in economic and cultural backgrounds, and in values and ways of thinking among individual researchers. RCCERI is being operated as fine adjustments are made to achievemaximumproductivity and developing human resources. Some of the many researchers stationed at the Center faced unpredicted situations such as social chaos due to political instability or evacuation due to flooding and had to take emergency response measures. In this article, we cover aspects related to these experiences.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Three sessions of international and local participants from a July 2019 conference created active ecosystems which generated living examples of intercultural improvisation, performance research, cultural ecologies and artistic research in Thailand. Summarized and assessed in this article, these sessions revealed some of the first fruits of Thailand’s work in these areas through engagement with other practitioners in the region. Besides offering creative improvisation among Thai artists and artist-centered critical assessments of their work, the article captures active thinkers seeking to reimagine the “festival” format for performance research, and seeks for ways to continue future regional collaboration in artistic research. The article embodies the ecological aspects of live collective thinking in the arts.

Abstract (sommario):
Chinese education in Thailand has a long history, but early teaching resources were scarce. It was not until the 21st century that Chinese education in Thailand entered a period of rapid development. This paper systematically reviews the development of Chinese teaching resources in Thailand at different stages, from different sources and of different types. It points out that the early experience of Chinese schools laid a solid foundation for the construction of contemporary Chinese teaching resources. While the development of Chinese teaching resources in Thailand has been rapid, there are still issues such as the lack of top-level design and policy implementation, insufficient teaching resources in higher education, and the need to improve the quality of Chinese teaching resources in vocational education. Suggestions are made to strengthen collaboration from a macro perspective, deepen Sino-Thai cooperation to improve localized teaching resources, and enhance the development of "Chinese + vocational education" teaching resources. These measures will further improve the construction of Chinese teaching resources in Thailand.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose This paper aims to examine how the dynamic interplay of governance mechanisms of the university-firm R&D alliance reduces obstacles and enables the successful commercialization of research collaboration output. Design/methodology/approach A longitudinal case research and retrospective strategy were used to collect relevant data and information in the four university-and-firm alliance teams collaborating on R&D projects in Thailand during 2008-2014. In-depth interviews and meetings were conducted with representatives of all partners and R&D project teams. Findings The authors found that formal and informal control mechanisms act as complementary forms of governance. The informal control (trust) serves as the frame of intentions whether the formal control is interpreted as a guideline or a commitment. Both formal and informal control mechanisms must be put in place to successfully and sustainably develop collaborative research into a commercial product. Research limitations/implications This study investigated four Thai government-funded research collaboration teams from a single industry. It would be worth investigating such research collaboration in other industries and those without any government funding. Originality/value This study applied an exploratory case research method which is rarely used in research on R&D alliance teams. It generates cross-functional insights on how to build trust in such R&D context, especially in an emerging economy.

Abstract (sommario):
Qualitative scholars are increasingly engaged in global research where members of the research team are from different countries and cultures and have different primary languages. However, in-depth descriptions of how to work as a transnational team successfully and rigorously are scarce. Using a collaboration between Stanford University in the US and Chulalongkorn University in Thailand as a case example, we present the nuances and challenges experienced in this research collaboration, as well as the strategies employed to optimize the validity and reliability of the study findings. While we started our data analysis following a more typical qualitative analysis path, shortcomings of this approach brought us to explore an alternative, involving data review and coding by transnational coding sub-teams. This approach was better able to illuminate cultural nuances, address coding discrepancies, and bring forward discussions to enhance interpretation and validity of findings. We describe our collaborative and iterative approach, and highlight methodological implications around team composition, language nuances and translation challenges, our coding process involving transnational coding sub-teams, and important considerations for managing team dynamics (e.g., power and hierarchy) and the partnership process and engagement over time. Moreover, we highlight the benefits of integrating insiders and outsiders throughout the research process, from data collection to coding and interpretation. Our process can serve as a model for similar transnational teams seeking ways to fully benefit from cross-cultural research collaborations.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Background: Adolescence in an age of opportunity in Thailand. The main health issues of this age group are related to pregnancy, injuries and poisoning, all which should be preventable. Objective and methods: This article presents the experiences of Thai physicians, who received adolescent medicine fellowship training in North America and brought their experience, knowledge, skills, and adolescent health care principles and practice back to Thailand. The anticipations and the facts faced in everyday practice, training, research, and collaboration in a place with their own culture and societal norms are described. Results: Currently, there are six adolescent medicine specialists who work with experienced specialist in the subcommittee of adolescent health under the Royal College of Pediatricians of Thailand. There has been collaboration with both the public sector and health care sector, government and non-government organizations with regards to health care service and promotion. Many hospitals especially residency training institutes have increased the cut-off age of patients to be seen by pediatricians to 15 or 18 years of age. Since 2011, adolescent medicine was made one of the mandatory rotations in all pediatric resident training programs. Conclusion: There is still more work to be done – issues around policies for confidentiality and a lower age of consent, collaboration between other specialties to enable a large-scale youth-friendly one-stop services, and multicenter research opportunities are still awaiting.

Abstract (sommario):
Blockchain technology, a decentralized database that encourages collaboration, transparency, and security, is popular in Thailand, as seen from many practical projects. Nevertheless, information about Thailand’s blockchain ecosystem is incomplete. We conducted literature reviews of research articles, education courses, and industry projects, to explore blockchain from the technology adoption flow including academic research, knowledge acquisition, and project implementation. Blockchain research articles were collected from the Scopus database, while projects and courses were retrieved from an internet search. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 13 research articles, 50 courses, and 54 industry projects, dated from 2016 to 2020, were included in our review. Based on an analysis with respect to trends, focuses, and characteristics in all three aspects, we found that blockchain technology in Thailand was in its infancy, but has been increasing in numbers and domain varieties. However, blockchain technology did not move towards the same direction for all aspects. Most research articles were found in government services, supply chain, and traceability domains; while most projects were in the financial domains. We offer possible explanations for this observation. This paper provides challenges and opportunities for the research community and involved parties in practical implementation.

Abstract (sommario):
This article offers a description and rationale of the Global Childhoods Project, initiated by a group of researchers from Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand and Australia. This transnational and interdisciplinary network embarked on a collaborative research endeavour concerned with investigating questions of childhoods and globalization in the Asia-Pacific region. A central premise of the group is that researching global childhoods is best conducted by local researchers with knowledge of their own culture and contexts. This article considers the ways in which such collaboration offers opportunities to productively explore the possibilities and dilemmas associated with collaborative interdisciplinary, transnational, multi-sited ethnographic research. While all the researchers taking part in what we termed the Global Childhoods Project are established scholars and experienced researchers, the group quickly realized that the multiplicity of cultures, languages, perspectives and research backgrounds that furnished us with such potentially rich ground for collaborative work also presented us with a number of unanticipated conundrums and challenges.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose: This research explores the impact of adopting AI-CRM on integration capability, team collaboration, and firm performance. Additionally, it investigates whether big data analytical capability significantly influences integration capability, team collaboration, and competitive advantage. The study delves into whether integration capability is a driver of team collaboration and assesses the influence of competitive advantage on firm performance. Design/methodology/approach: A quantitative approach was employed using a questionnaire as the primary tool. Online Google forms were distributed to 450 middle-high level management professionals across ten large enterprises in Thailand that have implemented AI-CRM and big data analytics. Sampling techniques included judgmental, convenience, and snowball sampling. Data analysis utilized Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to validate model fit and test hypotheses. Findings: The study revealed that the adoption of AI-CRM significantly impacts integration capability, team collaboration, and firm performance. Big data analytical capability has a significant influence on team collaboration and competitive advantage but lacks a significant effect on integration capability. Furthermore, integration capability is significantly associated with team collaboration. However, the study did not find support for the relationship between competitive advantage and firm performance. Research limitations/implications: Findings are specific to the 450 middle-high level managers in ten large Thai enterprises; caution is needed when applying results to a broader population. Furthermore, the study focused on key factors, but additional variables may influence relationships. Future research could explore a broader range of factors. The study did not deeply investigate potential mediating mechanisms between variables. Further research could explore detailed pathways connecting studied variables. Originality/value: The study provides actionable insights for businesses, particularly those in Thailand, that have implemented AI-CRM and big data analytics. Practical implications may guide strategic decisions to enhance integration, collaboration, and overall performance.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim of this research is to investigate the health promotion services provided by district hospitals in the northeast of Thailand in order to improve health promotion guideline for district hospitals. The qualitative research was conducted from January 2009 to March 2010. Informants were the managers, the staff members responsible for developing and providing services of health promotion from 19 small, medium and large-sized district hospitals in the Northeastern region of Thailand. The in-depth interview was employed to gather the information analyzed by using content analysis. It was found that the new health promotion trends in district hospitals in the northeast were as follows. The organizational structures for promoting health were obviously defined while active services inside and outside the hospitals were clearly developed which bring health promotion practices to serviced users. Public policy for health was offered in the form of quality control, information management and active services while environmental management emphasized on creating comfort and learning environments for the hospital staff members and serviced users. Collaborations between professional organizations and multi-level networks had been established by district hospitals resulting in services with more accessibility and strengthening local communities. In addition, personal skill development and public health education yielded change to the health behaviors of hospital staff members, serviced users and people in local communities. For health service reorientation, there was emphasis on development of the quality of local community services in forms of professional standard development and assessment of health behavior outcome. The forms of health promotion provided by district hospitals in the northeast that were found were public policy for health promotion, active services, environmental management for health, community strengthening in form of collaboration networks, personal skill development and public health education for changing behavior, and change of health services. In order to improve health promotion, health promotion policies must be clearly defined and collaboration between stakeholders both inside and outside hospitals must be supported.

Abstract (sommario):
This article discusses the pessimistic attitude towards international cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand. The bilateral cooperation in the drug field that took place between the two countries on December 8, 2016 was in fact only a tool used for the interests of each country and ended the competition of interests between both countries. So the collaboration planned for five years must end in the third year. The purpose of this article is to look at the changes in attitudes between the two countries and the dynamics of contesting the national interests of Indonesia and Thailand in cooperation in narcotics. The collaboration between the two countries is studied from a realistic perspective by paying particular attention to the concept of national interest to understand the motivation of the two nations to cooperate, as well as revealing the reasons for the non-implementation of cooperation in 2020 – 2021. The data presented in this study is in the form of primary data through interviews with a number of sources and secondary data obtained through library studies. In the findings of the research, the failure to cooperate between the two countries was found notwithstanding the heterogeneity or differences in behaviour and actions caused by their respective internal factors, both political and economic needs and security issues. This research shows that the national interests of the country in fact drive the interaction between Indonesia and Thailand. The author finds that the change in attitude between Indonesia and Thailand is the result of the regulatory change that Thailand has made in dealing with narcotic drugs like marijuana. These differences of opinion are considered significant and affect many aspects between the respective countries. So cooperation is no longer possible. Keywords: National interest; Transnational crime; Non-traditional security; International cooperation; Indonesia; Thailand.

Abstract (sommario):
In spite of the increasing need for building interagency systems, the literature on effective inter-organizational collaboration is practically inexistent, both from the methodological and practical perspectives. Using an action research approach, this paper reports the findings of a four-year long action research that seeks to identify critical success factors for establishing and maintaining interagency collaboration in a large-scale inter-organizational system development project. The findings were drawn from direct experiences during the implementation of the cross-border internet-based system for trade and transport facilitation in Thailand, which required an involvement of more than 40 governmental and business stakeholders. This paper suggests a stepwise approach for the establishment and maintenance of interagency collaboration, and derives methodological and practical implications from this large-scale experience.

Abstract (sommario):
Collaboration is a contemporary management concept that is considered essential for achieving development policy outcomes. However, research on collaboration and quality assurance policies in higher education in Thailand has been challenging. The aim of this study was to investigate how collaboration contributes to the successful implementation of the educational quality assurance policy at Walailak University. To address this research question, a mixed-method approach was used which combined qualitative and quantitative research methods. This approach was chosen to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the subject and was based on the collaborative governance theory and resource-based framework. In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 key informants who are important actors in the quality assurance process at the university. These interviews were supplemented by a questionnaire survey of 400 respondents from various stakeholders at the university. The findings of this study showed that facilitative leadership, incentive to collaborate, repetition of effort to collaborate and resource-knowledge sharing are among the key determinants contributing to collaboration processes in educational quality assurance. The results also indicated that these factors are interrelated and can contribute to the successful implementation of the university's quality assurance policy. Based on these findings, models of collaboration in enhancing quality assurance outcomes were demonstrated that resource-knowledge sharing, negotiation, trust-building, commitment to the process and shared-understanding have statistically significant positive impact on educational quality assurance outcomes including producing graduate outcomes, research outcomes, academic services outcomes and preserving arts and cultures. The practical benefits were proposed and discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
An important aspect of ethical conduct of field research is for the researcher to have an appropriate relationship with the legitimate gatekeepers of the field site. This paper describes our experiences of obtaining approval from regulatory authorities in Thailand for field research on Burmese migrants, and discusses the nature and rationale of such government control in Asia and Western countries. It is intended to guide future humanitarian researchers who are planning to study oppressed groups at politically sensitive research sites where regulatory authorities monitor both research sites and research performance. Thailand, like several other Southeast Asian countries, operates a permit system for foreign researchers. This permit system is designed to promote research activities in Thailand so that the results can be used to further the country's development, and to enhance the cooperation and collaboration between Thai and foreign researchers providing opportunities for the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise, and experience. This control of foreign researchers is not prohibitive; foreign humanitarian researchers can organize research and advance the welfare of targeted oppressed populations in cooperation with government agencies.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractModern astronomy has developed rapidly in the last few decades. Large telescopes, several metres in diameter, have been constructed and installed at many sites around the world, in order to carry out high-quality research work at the frontiers of astronomy. In many parts of the world, only small telescopes are available, because of budgetary limitations and the stage of development of science in the country. However, much effort has been put into using these small telescopes to the best of their capabilities. A small telescope with modern detectors can do good astronomical research. Sirindhorn Observatory, Chiang Mai University, is the only observatory in northern Thailand which plays an active role in astronomical research. The major instrument is the 40-cm Cassegrain reflecting telescope with standard wide-band and intermediate band photoelectric photometers, CCD photometers and a CCD spectrograph. Because of Thailand’s hot and humid climate, the telescopes and detectors at Sirindhorn Observatory need regular maintenance. Major research at the Observatory emphasizes the study of physical propoerties and evolution of close binary systems, especially near-contact and contact binaries, by photometric techniques. Networks in this field of research have been established through national and international collaboration with some astronomical institutes in the region. A larger telescope is being developed for more efficiency in operation; it is expected to be able to serve the future development of astronomical research in Thailand.

Abstract (sommario):
The global demand for organic produce has surged, with notable growth among Thai consumers. However, within Thailand's organic agricultural sectors, supply chain obscurity has impeded the understanding and resolution of emerging challenges associated with meeting this rising demand. Public interest has traditionally centered on mainstream economic sectors, resulting in inadequate attention to the sustainable organic farming supply chains. This study aims to explore the complexities of current sustainable organic supply chain configurations in Thailand, addressing gaps that lead to suboptimal planning and non-sustainable practices. Utilizing the Integration Definition for Function Modeling (IDEF0) framework, this research collected data from key stakeholders through in-depth interviews. Participants included representatives from each stage of the supply chain, providing comprehensive insights into the operational dynamics. The analysis identified several critical challenges within the supply chain, including insufficient collaborative planning, reduced productivity, inaccurate demand forecasting, ineffective budgetary planning, and inadequate cold chain management. These challenges highlight the fragmented nature of the current supply chain and the need for strategic improvements. To address these shortcomings, the study suggests integrating technological advancements in demand planning, operations, and budgeting, fostering collaboration among supply chain members, and forming strategic partnerships with cold chain management service providers. These recommendations aim to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of Thailand's organic produce supply chain, ensuring it can meet increasing global and domestic demands effectively.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a framework on how strategic philanthropy can be included in humanitarian supply chains delivery. This framework explains the modalities where strategic philanthropy can be successful when collaborating with key humanitarian supply chain actors. Design/methodology/approach A philanthropy delivery framework is developed based on the literature related to strategic philanthropy and humanitarian supply chains. The delivery framework is further validated with the real-life case study of a multinational firm during the 2011 Thai floods. Findings Procter and Gamble (P&G) was involved in the Thailand flood 2011 relief efforts in three phases: preparation, immediate response, and reconstruction phase. The company supported and distributed a water purifier through a non-governmental relief agency, the Princess Pa Foundation, under the Thai Red Cross Society, that enabled P&G to not only gain the trust of the targeted community during all the phases but in the continued usage of their water purifier after the event. Community leaders and P&G’s modern trade retailers played an important role in collaborating in this humanitarian supply chain to enable the successful delivery and usage of the donated water purifier. Research limitations/implications This proposed delivery framework is appropriate for in-kind products and services philanthropy. The case study describes how strategic philanthropy can be implemented in a specific case, i.e. flood disaster. Practical implications Academia, practitioners, and companies who are involved in humanitarian reliefs may adopt and adapt this framework in order to enable a win-win situation for all stakeholders in the humanitarian supply chain. Originality/value The delivery framework suggests that firms can develop successful strategic philanthropy through systematic humanitarian supply chain collaboration. It explains how a company can operate its philanthropic programs through collaboration with others as well as describes how these different actors can work together.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents an empirical study of the role of university outreach in the triple helix collaboration model adopted for the development of knowledge-based entrepreneurship in a community enterprise in Thailand. The triple helix model is a hybrid collaboration of university-industry-government networks for knowledge transfer and innovation development. This research project was a case study using a qualitative ground theory approach, semi-structured interviews, and documentary analysis for its data collection tools. This study investigates how a university outreach project performed by academic members of a regional university from the Northeast region of Thailand plays a role in promoting a local community enterprise to become knowledge-based entrepreneurship. The study chose a local organic rice farming community enterprise as its case study. The study discovered that the primary role of the university outreach is a source of creative knowledge required for innovative development. The knowledge delivery is via academic service financially supported by funding from a government agency. The empirical evidence showed that the participating academics delivered their knowledge service with sufficient entrepreneurial skills. Moreover, the academic service that promoted the enterprise’s business innovation significantly added economic value to its production. In addition to identifying success factors, this paper also discusses a challenge for further development for the university outreach sustaining its contribution to the triple helix collaboration by constructing systematic support from the university and promoting academic integrity for interdisciplinary research-based innovation development.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose – The aim of this paper is to explore how an international business model was successfully developed to protect the environment, specifically, how the Wild Animal Rescue Foundation (WARF) of Thailand designed its unique eco-voluntourism products. Design/methodology/approach – Primary qualitative data were collected through ethnographic research, involving researcher participation and interviews, with the founder and the management team. Secondary data were also gathered through undergraduate and graduate students' experience with WARF, a television news reporter, and social media data from WARF's eco-voluntourists. Findings – It was found that the business model of WARF evolved through trial-and-error, whereby voluntourism projects were created in collaboration with stakeholders from both public and private sectors. The success of voluntourism lies in ensuring that the experience was rewarding for all stakeholders. Practical implications – WARF's voluntourism business model has high market potential to be developed cross-continents. The findings are optimistic and encouraging for managers and policy makers, particularly for countries that are endowed with natural resources. Eco-tourism and non-service green businesses also found good ideas from WARF to apply to their operations. Originality/value – It is extremely challenging to offer a tourism product that could add more value to eco-volunteers who already have high levels of knowledge in ecology. The WARF case demonstrates how extensive stakeholder collaboration makes it possible to create and manage experiences that would be perceived as a rare opportunity for educational eco-tourism.

Abstract (sommario):
Human trafficking cases in Thailand have been around since the 1970s. Even though it has been more than three decades, cases of human trafficking in Thailand are still being found. Human trafficking is a real issue that Thailand faces every year. This study specifically discusses the efforts taken by the Thai Government in dealing with human trafficking. Human trafficking is one of the focuses in the concept of human security. The efforts made are in the form of collaboration with various sectors in the scope of the Multi Track Diplomacy concept. This research belongs to the type of qualitative research with literature study data collection techniques. Literature study due to lack of access to direct data collection, so the data used in this study is secondary data in the form of documents and publications available on the internet. After conducting the research process, the results found showed that the Thai Government carried out six of the nine lines of Multi-track Diplomacy. The six lines of cooperation synergize with each other and produce concrete actions in the Thai Government's efforts to deal with human trafficking. The cooperation carried out by the Thai Government with various related parties later became evidence of the government's seriousness in resolving this issue. The aftermath of this seriousness is in the form of 2 positions from Thailand to a Tier position in resolving the issue of human trafficking. However, the Thai government still makes the issue of human trafficking a national priority.

Abstract (sommario):
The agricultural sector in Thailand, Taiwan, and Japan is facing a number of interrelated crises, including aging producers, falling market prices, changing consumer preferences, and biodiversity degradation. Small-scale farmers in these three societies have engaged in diverse collaborative initiatives with actors from the public, private, and third sectors to overcome these challenges. We illustrate these initiatives by combining the concept of societal entrepreneurship with a complex understanding of social capital. Given that these initiatives are formed in distinct ways across these societies, the paper aims to answer the following research questions: What is the nature of the relationships (expressed as types of social capital) underlying the processes of societal entrepreneurship? How does social capital contribute to sustainable community development? How does it facilitate the scaling up of solutions through multi-sectoral collaboration? Using a case study approach, we aim to explore multi-sector initiatives in each context in depth, before identifying common patterns and key drivers for collaboration through thematic analysis. We have found that distinct drivers are involved in each context due to different types of social capital, including solutions, advocacy, and reconciliation.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a broad preliminary overview and critical viewpoint on the current state of customer experience innovation and strategy in Thailand. Design/methodology/approach This paper outlines and critically analyses the key trends based on 15 prime instances of customer experience innovation from the past ten years in Thailand across three industries: retail, fuel service and insurance. Findings Customer experience in Thailand is still in its nascent stage. This is because firms are yet to realise their full potential as critical brand differentiators. Many Thai firms also miss collaboration opportunities with external partners when innovating customer experiences. This is despite the overwhelming contributions from local SMEs to breakthrough innovations and creativity. Consequently, many customer experience innovations in Thailand are yet to be truly memorable and unique. Originality/value This is the first paper that critically examines the trends in customer experience across the retail, fuel service and insurance. It is also the only paper that outlines strategic implications of customer experience strategies and innovations to date for Thailand. Both future research topics and managerial implications for Thai professionals are discussed in the paper.

Abstract (sommario):
OBJECTIVES/GOALS: To present Substance Abuse Research: Bench to Community (SARB2C) as a model for team science both within and between institutions. Emerging from targeted efforts by the NIH to engage translational scientists in prominent public health issues, the initiative illustrates the benefits of bringing together researchers and trainees to share ideas. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: In 2019 a group was formed at University of Florida to discuss ongoing translational research in the area of substance abuse, including faculty, staff, and trainees from across the campus. The group was expanded in February 2022 to include domestic colleagues at the University of Kentucky as well as international collaborators at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. One-hour monthly meetings began in person but now take place virtually. Larger projects are discussed individually, focusing on opportunities for collaboration. Attendees also provide updates on their work, including proposals in development and manuscripts in process. This facilitates dialogue around the science, from the bench to the community, and connects people to advance team science. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: In light of the ongoing opioid epidemic and the public health threat of other emerging substances, collaboration among researchers in this area is essential to advance the science and explore real-world solutions. SARB2C demonstrates the benefit of connecting researchers across T0 to T4, and that of including trainees for invaluable experience. This environment fosters open discussion and creativity and helps break down the silos that impede science. A highlight from early in the group’s history was a visit from the Program Officer for the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute in February 2020. Since that time, multiple collaborations have resulted in grants submitted, such as P30 center grants and an innovative R61/R33, as well as numerous publications. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: A complex public health emergency like the opioid epidemic requires creativity and collaboration, from laboratory science to interventions in the community, putting it squarely within the sights of translational research. SARB2C will soon enter its fifth year of linking researchers and training the next generation of scientists.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract As a manufacturing, logistics and supply chain hub within ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Thailand holds the 12th spot in global vehicle production for an estimated 2,355 Thai and multinational automotive industry enterprises. Within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Thailand ranks number one in automotive production contributing $US11.4 billion to the Thai economy and 12 percent to Thailand’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product), with the automotive industry being Thailand’s leading export sector. However, the automotive companies envisage the difficulty of cultural diversity to manage and coordinate. Therefore, cultural values from the milieu are inducted into the workplace and have a strong impact on both individual behavior and organizational effectiveness and must be direction at all levels for cross-cultural, organizational effectiveness to be achieved. It also became evident that natural disasters are frequent and highly disruptive to the global automotive supply chain and paces must be taken to countervailing the notable and continuing loss to economic growth and organizational effectiveness to both sector units and the global industry. The implementation of strategically placed, environmentally ‘habituated’, automotive parts logistics cache might be one solution to the problem. Given the crucial importance of this sector to the economy of the region and the global supply chain, the researchers surveyed 220 managers using a 7-point Likert scale questionnaire within the multinational industrial clusters of Thailand’s ‘Detroit of Asia’ Eastern Seaboard region. Using Structural Equation Modelling to test the 11 variables on Logistics Management, Supply Chain Management and Organizational Effectiveness in a cross-cultural context, it was determined that collaboration within the supply chain and the exchange of information can reduce uncertainty, with trust being a key ingredient to a JV’s success. Communication (0.836), trust (0.834) and collaboration (0.824) were ranked as significant components of cross-cultural Supply Chain Management effectiveness. The research also confirmed that the hypothesized difficulty from cultural diversity is difficult to manage and to coordinate. Analysis also confirmed the ongoing and significant problems to the global automotive supply chain by natural disasters and the consequential economic losses.

Abstract (sommario):
Organic cassava flour and products are in high demand. However, the expansion of organic cassava (OCS) production is rather slow. To increase OCS production, extension workers, cassava flour mills, farmers, and researchers have been collaborating to support the farmers, but the planted areas have remained limited. This research aimed at understanding the current issues in scaling up the organic cassava production. The findings were subsequently used to formulate scenarios and recommendations for the collaborative scale-up of organic cassava production in the Mekong River Basin (MRB). We carried out a six-step foresight process with leaders of organic cassava farmers, the staff of organic cassava flour mills and factories, extension workers, the staff of research agencies, and local policy makers in Thailand. The results revealed two key factors or drivers of changes, namely, the degree of collaboration among stakeholders using multiple-view scenarios or a single-view situation and the degree of learning and communication about OCS that future stakeholders are likely to experience. Four possible scenarios for a scaling-up system of OCS production in the MRB were developed. The foresight process allowed for recognizing multiple views and opinions about the OCS production scaling-up process, considered as a whole system. The system was found to consist of various interdependent components. The process highlighted the need to increase the capacity and opportunities for productive collaboration in research and development. We concluded that the MRB members should issue a policy formulating a joint task force to coordinate the existing institutions’ plans and resources towards an actionable OCS production scaling-up system for the MRB in 2030.

Abstract (sommario):
Thailand is implementing the Thailand 4.0 policy that aims to bring technology and innovation to build sustainable competitiveness for the private sector. However, in the context of SMEs, the ability to transfer technology from universities is still a limitation. The objective of this research is to identify the technology assistance needs of SMEs, as well as, to study the key factors that make the technology transfer successful in the context of collaboration between universities, government agencies and SMEs. The sample group of this research is 226 SME entrepreneurs participating in the Boost up New Entrepreneurs with Technology and Innovation Program carried out by The Office of SMEs Promotion and Thammasat University between 2019-2020. The research results indicated that to create sustainable competitiveness, SMEs need technology assistance in 4 areas: (1) enhancing digital marketing capabilities, (2) developing product innovations, (3) raising product standards, and (4) improving production efficiency. In addition, this research also indicated that the technology transfer success factors for SMEs has 3 key elements: (1) a technology transferor who stands out for collaboration between researchers and business consultants, (2)atechnology transferee who has key characteristics of entrepreneur orientation and absorptive capacity of SMEs, and (3)the technology characteristics which can be connected to the original business processes of the organization which is a technology that gives SMEs’ products uniqueness that is difficult for competitors in the market to copy.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractNational Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) initiated a national flagship project in 2017 for development of radio astronomy and geodesy in Thailand. In this project, a 40-m Thai National Radio Telescope (TNRT) and a 13-m VLBI Global Observing System (VGOS) radio telescope as its co-location are constructed in Chiang Mai. The 40-m TNRT is the largest telescope for radio astronomy in South-East Asia. Its flexible operation with a wide-coverage of observable frequencies 0.3-115 GHz will allow us to uniquely contribute to the time-domain astronomy as well as carry out unbiased surveys for a wide variety of science research fields, which were published in a white paper. Within the framework of collaboration with VLBI arrays in the world, TNRT will drastically improve the imaging quality and performances based on its unique geographical location, for both radio astronomy and geodetic VLBI studies in South-East Asia for the first time. On-going commissioning of TNRT particularly in the L-band system (1.0–1.8 GHz) is introduced as well as vision for establishment of forthcoming regional VLBI networks based on TNRT: Thai National VLBI Array and South-East Asian VLBI Network in collaboration with Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

Abstract (sommario):
The epidemic of the COVID-19 has spread rapidly worldwide. This phenomenon has changed people's lifestyles as well as business activities. Many businesses are unable to operate normally, which is caused /or affected by supply chain disruption. Therefore, supply chain resilience after the COVID-19 pandemic is essential to maintaining the liquidity of businesses and increasing supply chain efficiency. This research aimed to examine factors influencing supply chain resilience and construct a structural equation model for supply chain resilience after the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand's industries. A research framework was developed according to previous literature in the context of supply chain resilience. Five constructs, namely Technology, Flexibility, Collaboration, Agility, and Supply chain resilience, with seven hypotheses were established. A questionnaire survey was developed from the research framework and previous literature. Then, the validity and reliability test of the questionnaire were performed with the Index of Item Objective Congruence (IOC) technique and Cronbach’s alpha, respectively. The data was obtained from 426 business organizations in both the industrial and service industry in Thailand. The structural equation model (SEM) technique was conducted to examine the relationship between constructs. The results revealed that agility was only a factor that directly influenced supply chain resilience, while technology had an indirect effect on it via agility. However, technology has had direct effects on flexibility, agility, and collaboration.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe progress in an across sectorial approach to primary health care at the district health service (DHS) level in Thailand in response to recent innovative national public policy directions which have been enshrined in constitutional doctrine and publicly endorsed by the Prime Minister. This paper describes one response to the Prime Minister’s challenge for Thailand to become the centre of learning in the sub-region in health management. Design/methodology/approach The authors utilised a descriptive case study approach utilising an analysis of the Naresuan University initiative of establishing the College of Health Systems Management (NUCHSM). Within that case study, there is a focus on challenges relevant to the socio-economic determinants of health (SOED) and an emphasis on utilising Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the DHS structure. Findings The findings describe the establishment of the NUCHSM. A Master of Science (Health Systems Management) by research and a PhD degree have been created and supported by an international faculty. The Thailand International Cooperation Agency recognised NUCHSM by providing scholarships. International students are from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Kenya, Malawi and Timor Leste. Research consultancy projects include two in Lao People’s Democratic Republic; plus, a prototype DHS management system responsive to SDG attainment; and a project to establish a sustainable Ageing Society philosophy for a Thai municipality. Originality/value The case study on NUCHSM and its antecedents in its development have demonstrated originality in a long-standing international collaboration, and it has been recognised by the national government to provide scholarships to citizens of the countries in the sub-region to undertake postgraduate studies in health management. The concept of learning from each other and together, simultaneously as a group, through action research projects funded to enhance the evolution of DHSs is innovative.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper considers the interpretation of a local museum in Thailand using the local museum of Thai Bueng Khok Salung as a case study. Data collection was carried out from 9 September 2015 to 22 January 2018. The collected data were derived from related documents, previous studies, in-depth interviews and observations. This present research aimed to investigate the interpretation of the case study through the management of “persons, places, and things”. The findings revealed that there are two major types of interpretation at the museum: the interpretation for the people in the community (that is, indigenous curators, local visitors, and local people) and the interpretation for the people outside the community (that is, general visitors and specific-purpose visitors). The results of the study indicate an appropriate and effective interpretation system for the specific community context which encourages people—both locals and foreigners—to be aware of the value of the community. Consequently, as a result of their awareness, people would increasingly cherish their community and work in collaboration with other people for the sustainable development of the community.

Abstract (sommario):
The Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model, adopted by governments throughout the world, including Thailand, is the prevailing economic development model to manage natural resources more effectively and with little environmental damage (Simachaya, 2021). This research intends to evaluate the administration and management of the BCG model implementation in Thailand, factors influencing the success of implementing the model, and recommendations for enhancing the BCG economy. According to the findings, the BCG Policy Board, the BCG Implementation Committee, and the BCG Implementation Subcommittee supervise the implementation of the BCG model in Thailand. Legalization and regulation, standards and quality assurance, financial aid, tax incentives, a BCG market environment, a strategic management organisation, and budget allocation are key elements influencing the effective implementation of the model. Future action plans proposed by experts include boosting local investments in BCG industries, enhancing financial aid, fostering collaboration amongst diverse sectors, performing systematic research, and integrating current innovation and technology. The paper suggests that laws and regulations should be amended to facilitate BCG businesses to the maximum extent feasible, that standards and quality assurance should be developed for all BCG companies, and that the BCG industry should embrace cutting-edge technology and innovation

Abstract (sommario):
One Tambon One Product (OTOP), Thailand’s economic development program has been used to support the local economy, create incomes on the grass root for the locals, and be one of the successful engines to drive local and country economies, which create business opportunities for the locals. This research demonstrates how the new OTOP development related to the role and cooperation between different parties, especially the university and the community that owns the OTOP product can be implemented. This research project is one of the University-community engagement projects to study and initiate OTOP product development from the three provinces of Chiang Mai, Lumphun and Lampang. This collaborative product development leads to three new and innovative products of OTOP based on the large survey and focus group of 1,275 elderly consumers. The value creation technique from local culture was employed to innovate the new products. This research developed the framework consisting of the three strategic stages of development. The cross-collaboration team are the main enabler. The OTOP cooperative ecosystem was tested and it found that this ecosystem can reciprocally benefit all the staffs including help configuring the organisation context and its entrepreneurship.

Abstract (sommario):
Findings from child development research support inclusive practice in early childhood education to enable full participation of all children in learning activities and build their core capabilities for life. However, the implementation of inclusive practices in early childhood is often constrained by boundary-crossing barriers. This paper reports a quantitative study that investigated and analysed the inclusive practice experiences of 344 pre-school teachers across the six regions of Thailand. The study identified positive experiences of inclusive practices linked to effective collaboration with minimal barriers related to time, increased workload and lack of resources to help teachers cater to the needs of all children. The findings offer direction for developing teachers as leaders to work effectively across professional boundaries so that Thailand can achieve the goals of inclusive education for all children.
