Deeter, Burton Charles. "A survey of science fairs in school district 36 (Surrey)". Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/26806.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The Surrey School District has sponsored a District elementary schools science fair (grades 4-7) for 21 years and voluntary participation has increased throughout this time. Despite this popularity, no studies have been conducted regarding the science fair. A survey of the elementary schools in the Surrey School District was conducted. The four areas identified for investigation were: (a) participation in school and district science fairs (b) organization of school science fairs (c) relationship between science instruction and science fair participation, (d) teacher participation in science fairs. Two questionnaires were developed. One was distributed to all elementary teachers in Surrey and the other was distributed to all elementary principals in Surrey. Response rates were 77% (teacher's questionnaire, n=346) and 88% (principal's questionnaire, n=59). Data analysis was in the form of frequencies of response expressed in percentages. Some crosstabulatons were calculated. The major findings of the study were: (a) most schools (95%) participate in the science fair, (b) most schools (85%) Include primary students in the science fair, (c) 4 827 Intermediate students (83%) completed a science fair project, (d) all schools encourage public viewing of their science fair, (e) teachers do not vary their science Instructional activities, lnstructonal materials, or their instructonal time, from the fall to the spring, (f) teachers provide extra instructional time and extra-curricular time to assist students with preparation of science fair projects, (g) teachers evaluate science fair product and not the process of completing a science fair project, (h) most teachers (75%) reported a willingness to attend science fair inservice, (i) teachers and principals have very similar attitudes toward science fair, (j) many teachers (n=89) and principals (n=39) made general comments about the science fair. The study recommends that the Surrey Elementary Schools Science Fair be continued and that further study be conducted regarding the type and amount of assistance that elementary students require to complete a science fair project satisfactorily.

Tu, Ronghui. "Generalized Survey Propagation". Thèse, Université d'Ottawa / University of Ottawa, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/19972.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Survey propagation (SP) has recently been discovered as an efficient algorithm in solving classes of hard constraint-satisfaction problems (CSP). Powerful as it is, SP is still a heuristic algorithm, and further understanding its algorithmic nature, improving its effectiveness and extending its applicability are highly desirable. Prior to the work in this thesis, Maneva et al. introduced a Markov Random Field (MRF) formalism for k-SAT problems, on which SP may be viewed as a special case of the well-known belief propagation (BP) algorithm. This result had sometimes been interpreted to an understanding that “SP is BP” and allows a rigorous extension of SP to a “weighted” version, or a family of algorithms, for k-SAT problems. SP has also been generalized, in a non-weighted fashion, for solving non-binary CSPs. Such generalization is however presented using statistical physics language and somewhat difficult to access by more general audience. This thesis generalizes SP both in terms of its applicability to non-binary problems and in terms of introducing “weights” and extending SP to a family of algorithms. Under a generic formulation of CSPs, we first present an understanding of non-weighted SP for arbitrary CSPs in terms of “probabilistic token passing” (PTP). We then show that this probabilistic interpretation of non-weighted SP makes it naturally generalizable to a weighted version, which we call weighted PTP. Another main contribution of this thesis is a disproof of the folk belief that “SP is BP”. We show that the fact that SP is a special case of BP for k-SAT problems is rather incidental. For more general CSPs, SP and generalized SP do not reduce from BP. We also established the conditions under which generalized SP may reduce as special cases of BP. To explore the benefit of generalizing SP to a wide family and for arbitrary, particularly non-binary, problems, we devised a simple weighted PTP based algorithm for solving 3-COL problems. Experimental results, compared against an existing non-weighted SP based algorithm, reveal the potential performance gain that generalized SP may bring.

Abstract (sommario):
Likelihoods are widely used in the estimation of parameters, but the computation of their maximum can be quite complicated, and sometimes impossible in the presence of nuisance parameters. In such cases we seek a modified likelihood that will allow us to make inference on the parameters of interest with as little loss of information as possible. In the present work we will investigate some of these modified likelihoods, namely marginal likelihoods, conditional likelihoods, profile likelihoods, partial likelihoods, empirical likelihoods, and functions that exhibit properties similar to the ones of the likelihoods, more precisely the quasi-likelihoods. We will point out some cases where these modified likelihoods give rise to satisfactory estimations, and some other cases where they fail to give satisfactory estimations.

Abstract (sommario):

This paper utilizes survey data to compare several non-survey methods of modeling the economic impacts of biofuels plants. It examines differences in the input coefficients derived from the survey versus the trade coefficients generated through the non-survey methods. It finds that of the three non-survey methods examined, the Swenson (2006) scenario input coefficients most closely represent those found in the survey based on the performance of the non-survey scenario input coefficients in a variety of statistical tests. Further, it examines the economic impacts (multipliers) generated by these scenarios compared to those generated from the survey. Based upon statistical tests of the multipliers, the Swenson scenario’s estimated impacts most closely represent the impacts derived from the survey.

Abstract (sommario):
We present the rationale for and the observational description of ASPECS: the ALMA SPECtroscopic Survey in the Hubble Ultra-Deep Field (UDF), the cosmological deep field that has the deepest multi-wavelength data available. Our overarching goal is to obtain an unbiased census of molecular gas and dust continuum emission in high-redshift (z > 0.5) galaxies. The similar to 1' region covered within the UDF was chosen to overlap with the deepest available imaging from the Hubble Space Telescope. Our ALMA observations consist of full frequency scans in band. 3 (84-115 GHz) and band. 6 (212-272 GHz) at approximately uniform line sensitivity (L'(CO) similar to 2 x 10(9) K km s(-1) pc(2)), and continuum noise levels of 3.8 mu Jy beam(-1) and 12.7 ae Jy beam(-1), respectively. The molecular surveys cover the different rotational transitions of the CO molecule, leading to essentially full redshift coverage. The [C II] emission line is also covered at redshifts 6.0 < z < 8.0. We present a customized algorithm to identify line candidates in the molecular line scans. and quantify our ability to recover artificial sources from our data. Based on whether multiple CO lines are detected, and whether optical spectroscopic redshifts as well as optical counterparts exist, we constrain the most likely line identification. We report 10 (11) CO line candidates in the 3mm (1mm) band, and our statistical analysis shows that < 4 of these (in each band) are likely spurious. Less than one-third. of the total CO flux in the low-J CO line candidates are from sources that are not associated with an optical/NIR counterpart. We also present continuum maps of both the band. 3 and band. 6 observations. The data presented here form the basis of a number of dedicated studies that are presented in subsequent papers.

Abstract (sommario):
Four surveys of users of the AskERIC email reference service were conducted, during the years 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002. These surveys presented a snapshot of the AskERIC user population and user satisfaction at a single point in time. This paper reanalyzes the findings from these surveys utilizing repeated survey techniques. This paper presents the evolution of some of the demographics of AskERICâ s user population over time, as well as the evolution of AskERIC user behavior. As perhaps the oldest AskA service in existence, this analysis of AskERIC data sheds light on the evolution of all AskA services, and of email-based reference services in general.

Wang, Qian. "Smartphone-based Household Travel Survey - a Literature Review, an App, and a Pilot Survey". Thesis, University of North Texas, 2014. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc700116/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
High precision data from household travel survey (HTS) is extremely important for the transportation research, traffic models and policy formulation. Traditional methods of data collection were imprecise because they relied on people’s memories of trip information, such as date and location, and the remainder data had to be obtained by certain supplemental tools. The traditional methods suffered from intensive labor, large time consumption, and unsatisfactory data precision. Recent research trends to employ smartphone apps to collect HTS data. In this study, there are two goals to be addressed. First, a smartphone app is developed to realize a smartphone-based method only for data collection. Second, the researcher evaluates whether this method can supply or replace the traditional tools of HTS. Based on this premise, the smartphone app, TravelSurvey, is specially developed and used for this study. TravelSurvey is currently compatible with iPhone 4 or higher and iPhone Operating System (iOS) 6 or higher, except iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 plus and iOS 8. To evaluate the feasibility, eight individuals are recruited to participate in a pilot HTS. Afterwards, seven of them are involved in a semi-structured interview. The interview is designed to collect interviewees’ feedback directly, so the interview mainly concerns the users’ experience of TravelSurvey. Generally, the feedback is positive. In this study, the pilot HTS data is successfully uploaded to the server by the participants, and the interviewees prefer this smartphone-based method. Therefore, as a new tool, the smartphone-based method feasibly supports a typical HTS for data collection.

Abstract (sommario):
Orthognathic surgery is today a standard procedure for improving the intermaxillary relationship by moving either one or both jaws surgically. However, statistics for frequency and indication for orthognathic surgery in Sweden are today non-existent. The purpose of the study is to examine indications, frequency and surgical techniques for orthognathic surgery performed in Swedish Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) clinics. A questionnaire survey was performed on all Swedish OMFS clinics for the year 2011 to identify gender and age of the patients, surgical techniques, indications, frequency of operations and whether patients underwent one- or two-jaw surgery. A total of 47 out of 50 clinics responded to the survey. According to it, 894 patients were treated with orthognathic surgery. Slightly more women underwent orthognathic surgery than men and 91% of the patients were 26 years or younger. The most common indication was functional and the most common main jaw discrepancy aimed to correct was of sagittal nature. The survey shows great discrepancies between the counties concerning one- vs. two-jaw surgery. The results regarding frequency, age and gender distribution in orthognathic surgery was somewhat expected. However, the spread in frequency regarding one- vs. two-jaw surgery between the counties is concerning. The main indication for performing orthognathic surgery in Sweden is by far functional but there is reason to suggest that aesthetic indication is not negligible.

Abstract (sommario):
The beginning of X-ray astronomy is based on two accidental discoveries made in 1962. A single point source, Scorpio X-1 and remarkable discovery of the diffuse background radiation, three years before the microwave background was discovered. Over the past four decades, X-ray astronomy has matured into a major branch of astronomy, contributing to our understanding of the physical processes operating in many different types of sources, from stars to high redshift quasars. In 1990, the launch of the ROSAT satellite offered to unique opportunity to investigate the radio properties of X-ray emitters. A sample of faint X-ray emitters from a deep pointed observation is used in this thesis to investigate the prediction that sub-mJy radio source are a major contributor to the X-ray background. Another sample of 695 bright X-ray emitters were selected from ROSAT All Sky Survey for optical follow-up as a European Southern Observatory key project. The radio follow-up of the sample was undertaken for this thesis. The aim is to construct a catalogue of radio emitting X-ray (REX) sources to study their quantitative statistical properties and to select out a sample of BL-Lac objects for further study. Based on previous surveys approximately 19% or 130 of the X-ray sources should be directly associated with a radio emitter, of which 90% will be positionally coincident with the most plausible optical candidate for an X-ray source. This increases the efficiency of the optical identification program by about 15 percent.

Chen, An-Le. "A survey of cataclysmic variables from the Edinburgh-Cape Blue object survey". Doctoral thesis, University of Cape Town, 1994. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/17033.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Includes bibliographical references.
This thesis is based on the Edinburgh-Gape Blue Object Survey and includes a general review of blue star sky surveys, a detailed discussion of the selection techniques, the present status of the survey, and follow-up photometry and spectroscopy of the cataclysmic variable stars (GVs) found by the survey. Because of the north-south imbalance in the number of blue objects, the Edinburgh-Gape Blue Object survey was designed to discover previously unknown blue objects with B≤~18 at high galactic latitude in the southern hemisphere. At present, all the planned fields (61 fields) in the North Galactic Pole region and 26 fields in the South Galactic Pole regions are complete, covering 2488 square degrees. The preliminary results show that the survey has an internal completeness of ~94% for objects with U-B bluer than the cutoff --0.3, and selects objects with an accuracy in photographic U-B of 0.16 mag. UBV measurements and spectra have been obtained for ~2000 objects. Half of these objects are hot subdwarfs which comprise the sdO, sdB, and sdOB stars. The white dwarfs account for about 17% of the total. About 18% of the objects are horizontal branch B and normal B stars. Cataclysmic variable stars and quasars comprise only a small fraction, 2 and 6 percent, respectively. Less than one percent are galaxies. The remaining ~5% have unknown spectral classes at present. So far, 25 cataclysmic variable stars have been found by the survey. The space density was estimated to be 1.6xl0-⁶ pc-³. Among these cataclysmic variables, 6 dwarf novae and 8 nova-like variables are new discoveries; detailed study of their photometric and spectroscopic characteristics are discussed in Chapters 6-10. One of the stars discovered, a close binary with large reflection effect, is a predecessor of the cataclysmic variables. Napier's (1968) method for the reflection effect in close binaries was used to model the light curve in order to solve for the physical properties of the system. Photometry, spectroscopy, and model fits for this system are discussed in Chapter 5.

Abstract (sommario):

This dissertation aims to present a structured overview of the state-of-the-art in cooperative robotics research. As we illustrate in this dissertation, there are several interesting aspects that draws attention to the field, among which 'Life Sciences' and 'Applied AI' are emphasized. We analyse the key concepts and main research issues within the field, and discuss its relations to other disciplines, including cognitive science, biology, artificial life and engineering. In particular it can be noted that the study of collective robot behaviour has drawn much inspiration from studies of animal behaviour. In this dissertation we also analyse one of the most attractive research areas within cooperative robotics today, namely RoboCup. Finally, we present a hierarchy of levels and mechanisms of cooperation in robots and animals, which we illustrate with examples and discussions.

Kuropka, Dominik, e Harald Meyer. "Survey on Service Composition". Universität Potsdam, 2005. http://opus.kobv.de/ubp/volltexte/2009/3378/.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
It is predicted that Service-oriented Architectures (SOA) will have a high impact on future electronic business and markets. Services will provide an self-contained and standardised interface towards business and are considered as the future platform for business-to-business and business-toconsumer trades. Founded by the complexity of real world business scenarios a huge need for an easy, flexible and automated creation and enactment of service compositions is observed. This survey explores the relationship of service composition with workflow management—a technology/ concept already in use in many business environments. The similarities between the both and the key differences between them are elaborated. Furthermore methods for composition of services ranging from manual, semi- to full-automated composition are sketched. This survey concludes that current tools for service composition are in an immature state and that there is still much research to do before service composition can be used easily and conveniently in real world scenarios. However, since automated service composition is a key enabler for the full potential of Service-oriented Architectures, further research on this field is imperative. This survey closes with a formal sample scenario presented in appendix A to give the reader an impression on how full-automated service composition works.

Fletcher, Allan John. "Who serves the survey?" Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/30868.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Who Serves the Survey? is an intimate contemplation on the art history survey. In it, I examine art history's flagship books and courses through their capacity to structure knowledge. Fastening first on what, borrowing from Foucault, might instructively be termed the "art-function" and the "story-function", I cogitate on the capacity of each ("serving under" and "serving up" the survey) to constrict, constrain and contain conceptions of vision, visualization, visual representation and visual comprehension. From there, I delve into the beginnings of the modern art history survey and probe a number of points where it (the survey) both produces and is, in turn, produced by the national, the archival, the financial, the social, the pedagogical, the professional/professorial and (tangentially) the psychological. The last section is analytical and prescriptive in that it poses questions inspired by the advent of visual culture/visual studies as an alternative and an intervention. Key among these, is the vital theoretical and pedagogical query: How might visual material be introduced and studied otherwise? In my judgment, visual cultural studies, growing out of two mutually influential tendencies in Britain: critical art history and cultural studies, provides the best option for reconceiving the study and teaching of visual representations. It has two distinct advantages. Unlike the comparatively rigid methodology of art historical surveys, visual studies refuses to impose a predetermined method or system, choosing instead, to affirm the inquiry process itself by allowing the researcher/bricoleur to track down, cook up and cobble together whatever methodologies fit the task at hand.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
Ever since union - and before - black South Africans have been excluded from parliament, provincial councils and other law-making bodies. This means that blacks have never participated in the electoral process. The voting (electoral) system - its nature and workings - remained the sole preserve of white political parties and the Apartheid government of the day. As a result of a conjuncture of circumstances (as per Harare Declaration), the African National Congress and the apart0heid government are now engaged in talks. Hopefully this will ultimately lead to negotiations towards a new Constitution which will make provision for a single unitary, non-racial, non-sexist South Africa with universal franchise on one single common voters roll and one person one vote. Part of the process of constitution-making for such a South Africa, will be the working out of a system of voting, an electoral system, which would be appropriate for the country. The African National Congress has recognised the need for a multi-party system, the right of all other political forces and organisations to organise and to compete for power on the political terrain. The ANC also recognises that all parties enjoying significant support should have the right to be represented in a Constituent Assembly and parliament. The question which needs to be resolved is: What would be an appropriate electoral system to achieve the stated objec0tive? It is to place the issue before the people of our country and to ensure participation at the widest levels by all the organisa0tions of the people in the process of constitution-making (including formulating and/or agreeing upon an acceptable system of voting), that the African National Congress, Community Law Centre (University of the Western Cape) and the Centre for Development Studies have organised a conference to be held in the Western Cape on 2 - 4 NOVEM0BER 1990. This conference will not be a decision-making one. nor will there be any resolutions at the end of the conference. The objective is to facilitate meaningful discussions throughout the country. To facilitate this process, we present a discussion document entitled "ELECTORAL SYSTEMS: A CRITICAL SURVEY" which has been prepared by Professor KADER ASMAL, a member of the Constitutional Committee of the ANC and Professor of Law at Trinity College, Dublin. It is hoped that arising from these discussions, there will be more meaningful discussions and consultations amongst or0ganisations such as trade unions, civic organisations, women’s organisations and other sectoral or0ganisations - ultimately leading to a situation which we would be better able to decide on an acceptable, unity building and democratic electoral system.

Todd, Kathryn Brantley. "GLOBAL COMPETENCE SURVEY DEVELOPMENT". UKnowledge, 2017. http://uknowledge.uky.edu/edsc_etds/29.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
The research objective for this dissertation study was to build a preliminary survey that would, in its final form, allow educators and administrators to establish baseline information on individuals’ global competence characteristics prior to instruction, cross-cultural experience, international study or collaboration. A secondary aim concerned length: The intent was to keep the eventual final survey at 15 minutes or less to make it adaptable to a variety of settings. The researcher extracted terms and phrases from existing global competence definitions (e.g., Boix-Mansilla, Jackson, Asia Society & Council of Chief State School Officers, 2011; Hunter, 2005), related literature (e.g., Lambert, 1994), and previous research (Todd, 2013) to develop a definition and theoretical framework for this competence. Central to the developed definition and framework were the disposition/affective realm, knowledge, skill, and action elements, and a clear connection to cosmopolitanism (e.g., Appiah, 2006). Currently, a global competence definition and survey tied directly to cosmopolitanism do not exist. The learning theories of Vygotsky (1986), Bandura (1977), Lave (1993), and Kolb (Kolb, Boyatzis, & Mainemelis, 1999) also provided insight into global competence development for measurement purposes. The four-step study method included building a draft survey from the developed global competence definition, field testing the draft survey with a purposive sample (e.g., Babbie, 2007b; Teddlie & Yu, 2007) in order to make initial revisions to the instrument, conducting a Delphi review (e.g., Cyphert & Gant, 1970; Fogo, 2014; Helmer, 1967) of the revised draft survey to further refine the instrument, and describing the field-test sample using data from items retained in the resulting survey from the Delphi review. The outcome of each of the four steps constituted the findings for this research. Future research could involve adding new items and then field-testing the survey once again to examine the statistical structure of the developing instrument.

Salmonsson, Martin. "Foreign aid : an elite survey". Thesis, Jönköping University, JIBS, Political Science, 2007. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:hj:diva-915.

Abstract (sommario):

The inability of foreign aid to generate an appropriate model for development and the complexities related to Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the “Third World” are what initiated my interest to write about foreign aid. In this study I seek to further elabo-rate on this complex issue on foreign aid; does it lead to development or dependency?

Within the debate, the controversy exists around aid dependency and economic growth and is fuelled by the fact that Sub-Saharan Africa has barely achieved any poverty reduction since the 1960´s. Mr. William Easterly an ex-World Bank employee represents the critical opinion to Foreign Aid. He argues that the international foreign aid programme is characterized by a westernized, patronizing and post-colonial approach, which yields dependency rather than development in today’s world of free-market economies. Foreign aid as we know it must therefore be abolished. Mr. Jeffrey Sachs Current World Bank employee and UN secretary advisor represents the supporters of foreign aid. He argues that foreign aid works efficiently and calls for the doubling of foreign aid and the need for donor countries to reach the one percent target of GDP.

In this case study of foreign aid, the subject under investigation (the argumentation within the public debate) is studied through a historical perspective. Secondly a comparison will be made between the public debate and the way this issue is discussed among field workers.

An interesting observation when analyzing the discussions on foreign aid efficiency in international aid programme is that the polarization witnessed in the public- or “elite” debate is not as obvious when analyzing the opinion of aid-workers. This would imply that uncertainty about aid efficiency is exaggerated in the public debate.

By resolving problems of classical development theories, rather than rethinking the purpose of aid based on its positive affects, foreign aid may be robbed of its real potential.

Bauer, James Monie. "A physical survey of Centaurs". Thesis, University of Hawaii at Manoa, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10125/854.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
There are forty four known small planetary bodies with orbits that are contained within the heliocentric distances of Jupiter and Neptune. It is thought that the origin of these bodies is the Kuiper Belt, the predicted reservoir of the current short period comet population. Yet, only two bodies, Chiron and C/NEAT (2001 T4), have been shown to possess a visible coma. We've undertaken an observational survey of these bodies to obtain detailed characterization of the physical properties of the Centaurs to search for evidence of activity, and to use the physical characteristics to make inferences about primordial conditions in the outer solar nebula and evolutionary processes among different dynamical regimes in the outer nebula. We present the results of optical observations of 24 Centaurs, which yield a 3-σ correlation of color with semimajor axis, with redder Centaurs being farther from the Sun. The survey also revealed the rotation light curve period for 2 Centaurs, and the phase-darkening slope parameters, G, for 5 Centaurs which range from -0.18 to 0.13, agreeing with the steepest of main belt asteroid phase curve responses. We show spectral evidence of a variegated surface for 1999 UG5 and find the second reddest Centaur object is the active Centaur C/NEAT (2001 T4). We also present spectral evidence of crystalline water ice and ammonia species on our comparison object, the Uranian satellite Miranda.

Abstract (sommario):
This research project consists of a portfolio of musical compositions and an accompanying commentary on these works. It was undertaken from the fall of 2009 to the summer of 2012. I am concerned in this project with developing a wide range of musical materials to serve as a pool of resources that I may draw upon when composing. I engage with these materials in a painterly fashion, repeatedly reworking them with respect to their physical reality much like a painter reshapes an image on canvas. I cultivate different emphases within materials ― such as the tac)lity of sound produc)on, superimposed rhythmic layers, and stasis ― to explore diverse musical functionalities. I interweave common source materials to create extensive networks of relationships within and across individual pieces. These relationships lead to composite and multipartite structures built from material inter references. Transferring materials into different contexts allows me to develop the same musical idea in multiple directions, leading to a diversity of forms and durations, from five-second solos isolating a specific gesture to twenty-plus minute pieces incorporating a range of instrumental groupings and material combinations. This diversity is most evident in An Incomplete Survey of the Act of Impingement, an extended project integrating a variety of materials, structures, and independent compositions into a composite whose interconnections allow for multiple programming possibilities. My understanding of such interconnection between heterogeneous elements is extended through resonance with the work of other artists and philosophers: for instance, Gilles Deleuze's and Felix Guattari's concept of the rhizome, Anthony Braxton's interwoven musical system, Ben Marcus's approach to organizing and categorizing his writings, and Matthew Ritchie's multimedia installations. The materials and methodologies cultivated in this project provide a foundation for future developments in my work.

Abstract (sommario):
This survey aimed to examine and analyze six companies' internal security. Six interviews were held with different sized companies, where the size of the office ranged from under ten to around 800 employees. The interviews contained questions regarding their information security, their perimeter security as well as the employees' personal security. The larger companies had more policies and security procedures than the smaller companies. Virus protection, banning USB flash drives from outside the company, security education and a well functioning report system are vital for a satisfying internal security. Interviewees from the smaller companies saw internal security principles as a necessity but also as an obstacle. The larger companies saw the same principles as something that would improve their security. These companies also had implemented more safety measures both in software, such as remote controls and guidelines for employees. Targeting problem areas with special educational campaigns helps employees defend themselves against social engineering. All companies that participated either develops software or are consultant companies in IT. They deliver IT solutions in one way or another and their internal security should reflect the same high standard and IT maturity. The smaller companies did not perform any risk analyses on which threats their company faces and did not have any safeguards in place if their employees do not conduct themselves correctly on their networks. Our opinion is that this should not be limited by the size of a company and all companies should perform risk analyses to be able to improve their internal security in the future.
