Abstract (sommario):
St. Brigid is one of three patron saints of Ireland. Venerated for over a millennium as an abbess and ruler, provider of miraculous ale and dairy products, protector of cattle and of people, she has been a constant of Irish folk and religious life. Still referenced by groups as diverse as neopagans, female religious, and abortion rights activists, Brigid has been remolded repeatedly to suit the cultural needs of contemporaries. The arrival of print and the division of western Christendom into Protestant and Catholic confessions created new challenges for those who wanted to remember Brigid. This article delineates the various ways in which her seventh-century hagiography was edited, translated, conflated, and cut in order to render her into a female figure fit for the purposes of a resurgent Tridentine church. The abbess of Kildare was too big to be forgotten yet too culturally awkward to be left unchanged.

Abstract (sommario):
The present study aimed to analyze cephalometric predictors of abnormal sella turcica (ST) in Sheehan Syndrome (SS) patients. An observational case-control study was performed with SS volunteers from the Endocrinology and Diabetology Service of the Walter Cantídio University Hospital (Brazil). The sample was composed of 32 patients allocated in two groups: case group (16 adult women diagnosed with SS) and control group (16 healthy individuals matched by sex and age). Analyzes of the linear dimensions (length, diameter, and depth) of the ST on lateral teleradiographies were made using the Radiocef Studio 2 software. The morphological pattern (anterior oblique wall, double floor contour, bridged, irregularities of the dorsal face, pyramidal) was also assessed. The subjects mean age was 65.47 ± 10.19 years. SS patients had lower mean length (p <0.001), width (p <0.001) and height (p = 0.033) compared to the control group. The presence of morphological alteration of the ST was statistically significant (p = 0.009) compared to the controls. The most frequent morphological changes were irregularities of the dorsal face (37.5%; p = 0.018), oblique anterior wall (12.5%), double floor contour (6.3%), and bridged appearance (6.3%). Our study found smaller dimensions and morphological variations of ST in Brazilian SS individuals, highlighting the importance of ST-related imaging screening.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The impact of bridging therapy (BT) administered between leukapheresis and chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) is unclear. We evaluated the influence of BT (systemic therapy [ST], radiation therapy [RT], or combined-modality therapy [CMT]) on outcomes of 148 LBCL patients who underwent leukapheresis for planned axicabtagene ciloleucel (axi-cel) infusion. The 55% (n = 81) of patients who received BT were more likely to have international prognostic index (IPI) score ≥3 (P ≤ .01), bulky disease (P = .01), and elevated lactate dehydrogenase (LDH; P ≤ .01). The 1-year progression-free (PFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 40% and 65% in non-BT patients vs 21% and 48% in BT patients (P = .01 and .05, respectively). Twenty-four patients (16%) did not receive axi-cel, most commonly because of lymphoma progression (88%), despite 80% (n = 19) receiving BT. Among 124 patients who received axi-cel, 50% (n = 62) received BT with ST (n = 45), RT (n = 11), or CMT (n = 6); 1-year PFS and OS rates were not significantly different between BT and non-BT cohorts (P = .06 and .21, respectively). There was no difference in proportion of patients with IPI ≥3, limited-stage disease, or elevated LDH between ST, RT, and CMT groups. Compared with non-BT patients, 1-year PFS was inferior for ST-bridged patients (P = .01). RT-bridged patients had improved PFS compared with ST-bridged patients (P = .05). Despite the poor prognosis associated with requiring BT, RT can be an effective bridging strategy. Future studies are necessary to identify strategies that may improve access to CAR T-cell therapy and outcomes.

Abstract (sommario):
In a fluidized bed, the drag force acts to oppose the downward force of gravity on a particle, and thus provides the main mechanism for fluidization. Drag models that are employed in large-scale simulations of fluidized beds are typically based on either fixed-particle beds or the sedimentation of particles in liquids. In low-Reynolds-number ($Re$) systems, these two types of fluidized beds represent the limits of high Stokes number ($St$) and low $St$, respectively. In this work, the fluid–particle drag behaviour of these two regimes is bridged by investigating the effect of $St$ on the drag force in low-$Re$ systems. This study is conducted using fully resolved lattice Boltzmann simulations of a system composed of fluid and monodisperse spherical particles. In these simulations, the particles are free to translate and rotate based on the effects of the surrounding fluid. Through this work, three distinct regimes in the characteristics of the fluid–particle drag force are observed: low, intermediate and high $St$. It is found that, in the low-$Re$ regime, a decrease in $St$ results in a reduction in the fluid–particle drag. Based on the simulation results, a new drag relation is proposed, which is, unlike previous models, dependent on $St$.

Abstract (sommario):
Eighteenth-century Jamaica, the ‘devil of a country’ to which Dr Alexander Johnston referred, seems an unlikely candidate, at the historian's first glance, for consternation. Today's visitor would find that the ‘Garden Parish’, St Ann's, truly exudes everything warm and wonderful associated with tropical stereotypes. Yet two hundred years ago Dr Alexander Johnston, ‘Practitioner of Physick and Chiurgery’ rarely observed this very paradise, the foothills of coastal St Ann's, in a positive light. To this particular Scot, the bright reds and greens clearly took second place to the shabby problems of daily life in the Caribbean.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper examines the influence of the leasehold system of land tenure on the structure of municipal government in 19th century St. Johns. This influence can be seen in the shaping of St. John's streets and physical growth, regulations governing building, property assessments levied to pay for local services, and even in the formation of municipal institutions themselves. It was also evident in the failures of the Newfoundland legislature and the St. John's Municipal Council to successfully tax the annual ground rents the predominantly British absentee landlords received from leasing their land in St. John's. These efforts to assess the ground rents of the absentees were motivated by the desire of local tenants to make them pay their share of municipal taxation. There was naturally bitter resentment in St. John's against the absentee landlords and their agents. Tenants were also angered by the value of land in the town which was constantly being raised without contribution from the absentees. This situation was of considerable significance in the development of St. John's, for the system of land tenure not only discouraged the imposition of property taxes but also worked against the establishment of municipal government. Consequently, St. John's municipal government in the 19th century differed from the more traditional route of local government that was followed, for instance, by Canadian cities such as Halifax or Toronto. In St. John's the Municipal Council, established in 1888, had control of the water supply, streets, sewers, parks, the fire brigade, and building regulations only, while the Newfoundland legislature retained responsibility over the city's other institutions and services. The history of the Municipal Council after 1888 was one of limited self-rule, characterized by inadequate administrative, legislative power, political interference from the government, and insufficient revenue.

Abstract (sommario):
7530 Background: Clinical trials of novel salvage therapies (ST) have encouraging outcomes for relapsed/refractory classic Hodgkin lymphoma (R/R cHL) eligible for autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT). In this observational study, we report efficacies and outcomes of different ST in ASCT-eligible R/R cHL. Methods: Consecutive ASCT-eligible R/R cHL pts at 3 Mayo Clinic sites were included. Demographics and clinical variables at relapse were recorded by medical records review. Time to event endpoints were defined from relapse. Univariate associations were confirmed in multivariate models of age, sex, B symptoms, stage, bulky disease (BD, single mass > 6 cm) extra nodal disease (END), primary refractory disease (PRD) and early relapse (ER, within 1 year). Results: From Jan 2008 to May 2020, 207 ASCT-eligible pts with R/R cHL were included. Median age was 33 (24-43) years, 53% were male, 52% had advanced stage, 24% had BD, 36% had B symptoms, 41% had END, 11% had PRD and 43% had ER. All patients received ST and underwent ASCT; 43 (21%) received 2 ST, 14 (7%) 3 ST and 4 (0.5%) received 4 ST. 6 groups of ST were identified: ifosfamide, carboplatin and etoposide (ICE), bendamustine/brentuximab (BBV), brentuximab vedotin (BV), gemcitabine-based therapy (Gem), checkpoint inhibitor (CPI), and others. Table lists response to first line ST. BBV had significantly higher overall response rate (ORR) and complete response (CR) as first ST in univariate and multivariate models. 114 (79%) after ICE, 30 (97%) after BBV, 15 (56%) after BV, 25 (76%) after Gem, 8 (73%) after CPI and 15 (79%) after other ST underwent ASCT. Higher number of pts were bridged to ASCT after BBV than ICE (p<0.01). 110 (53%) went to ASCT in CR, 74 (36%) in partial response (PR) and 11% in progressive disease (PD). 43 received BV maintenance (BVm) after ASCT. Pts going to ASCT in PR or PD had significantly lower progression free survival (PFS) compared to pts in CR (2 yr PFS: 62%, 18% vs 77%, respectively, p<0.0001) in univariate and multivariate models. There was no difference in PFS and overall survival (OS) by type of ST. BVm was associated with higher PFS (HR 0.3 (CI95 0.2-0.8)) and higher number of ST was associated with lower OS (HR 2 (CI95 1.4-3)) in multivariate model (p<0.001). For pts transplanted in CR, there was no significant difference in PFS and OS by type of ST but higher number of ST predicted lower OS (HR 2.4 (CI95 1.2-3.5), p<0.01). Conclusions: Type of ST did not predict survival, response to and number of ST did. For pts with CR, number of ST not type of ST predicted survival. BBV had higher response rates, higher rates of bridge to ASCT, and may be a preferable ST than ICE. Large, randomized trials are needed to evaluate efficacy of BBV compared to ICE.[Table: see text]

Abstract (sommario):
The Hubble Space Telescope (ST) will be launched with five dedicated scientific instruments and a capability to do astrometric measurements with the fine guidance sensors. Four of these – the Faint Object Camera, the Wide Field Camera, the Fine Guidance Sensors and the High Speed Photometer – can be used in the search for extrasolar planetary systems. The Faint Object Camera will be able to directly detect planets around a few of the nearby bright stars. The Wide Field Camera and the Fine Guidance Sensors can be used astrometrically, both with an accuracy of about 2 mas per observation. The High Speed Photometer possibly can detect planets during occultation of stars by the moon and minor planets. The ST is expected to be launched in mid-1986 and these observations are the among the first planned with the instruments.

We propose a formula by adapting the non-fractional Black-Scholes model using a &lambda;Hfactor to evaluate the european option. The price of the option at time t &isin;]0,T[ depends on &lambda;H(T &minus; t), and the cost of the action St, but not only from t &minus; T as in the classical model. At the end, we propose the formula giving the implied volatility of sensitivities of the option and indicators of the financial market.

Abstract (sommario):
Medieval headache treatment is largely unknown. Medieval incantations against headache enumerate bodily organs to be protected. One 8th-century Latin hymn from Lake Constance using this device is addressed to St. Aid “mechprech”, who has been identified as Aed Mac Brice, Bishop of Killare, 6th century. This Irish Saint inspired unusual legends by some rather unorthodox activities: He abducted a young girl as hostage while his inheritance was withheld, but at the same time was seen surrounded by angels. He prayed for a nun who was pregnant and made the pregnancy vanish by a miracle, and he replaced the severed heads of maids, men and horses, creating a new spring as a by-product of this operation. Already at his birth his head had hit a stone, leaving a hole in the stone which collected rainwater that cured all ailments. In our own time, such “bullaun stones” are still believed to cure headache in Ireland. According to the legends collected by Plummer and Co1man, St. Aed Mac Bricc was well known for his power to cure headaches. He relieved St. Brigid's headache when she was suffering many miles away, but his most impressive cure was in convincing a headache sufferer that the patient's headache could actually be transferred to his own head. The headache hymn or incantation is intended to repeat Aed's unique miracle.

Abstract (sommario):
Like in many countries of Europe, the 1st of February (Imbolk, the Brigid’day) in Ireland marks the beginning of Spring and is connected with some fertility rites. In old rural Ireland the people spent time watching hedgehogs (to see one was a good weather sign), preparing and eating special food, making straw girdles and caps, putting red ribbons on their houses (Brat Bride ‘Brigit’s cloak’), making special Brigit’s crosses and straw dolls, called Brideog, to visit a sacred spring which had a magic healing and anti-sterile power (wells and springs, worshiped in pagan Ireland, were prohibited by St. Patrick), and finally singing protective charms. In modern urban Ireland all these rites remind in the past, but the Brigid’day is not forgotten or abandoned. In this article, the author tries to outline three main ‘tracks’ of the old tradition: 1. Pseudo-folkloric (fake-lore): singing, dancing, making crosses, storytelling etc. 2. Pseudo (Vernacular)-Catholic: early mass and pilgrimages to the places connected with St. Brigit, especially – sacred wells. 3. “Neo-paganic”: special dresses, red ribbons, ritual dancing, fires, divinations of the future, bath in the sacred water etc. (in the most part – performed by women). Collecting material for the classification, the author outlined a special new direction of ‘shared spirituality’ representing presumably a new mode of collective behavior in modern urban societies.

Abstract (sommario):
Background Although bridge to lung transplantation (BTT) with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is increasingly performed, the impact of BTT and its duration on post-transplant outcomes are unclear. Methods We retrospectively reviewed medical records of adult patients who underwent lung or heart-lung transplantation in our institution between January 2008 and December 2018. Data were compared in patients who did (n = 41; BTT) and did not (n = 36; non-BTT) require pre-transplant ECMO support. Data were also compared in patients who underwent short-term (<14 days; n = 21; ST-BTT) and long-term (≥14 days; n = 20; LT-BTT) BTTs. Results Among 77 patients included, 51 (66.2%) were male and median age was 53 years. The median bridging time in the BTT group was 13 days (interquartile range [IQR], 7–19 days). Although simplified acute physiologic score II was significantly higher in the BTT group (median, 35; IQR, 31–49 in BTT group vs. median, 12; IQR, 7–19 in non-BTT group; p<0.001), 1-year (73.2% vs. 80.6%; p = 0.361) and 5-year (61.5% vs. 61.5%; p = 0.765) post-transplant survival rates were comparable in both groups. Comparison of ST- and LT-BTT subgroups showed that 1-year (90.5% vs. 55.0%; p = 0.009) and 5-year (73.0% vs. 48.1%; p = 0.030) post-transplant survival rates were significantly higher in ST-BTT group. In age and sex adjusted model, the LT-BTT was an independent risk factor for 1-year post-transplant mortality (hazard ratio, 3.019; 95% confidence interval, 1.119–8.146; p = 0.029), whereas the ST-BTT was not. Conclusions Despite the severe illness, the BTT group showed favorable post-transplantation outcomes, particularly those bridged for less than 14 days.

Abstract (sommario):
A new species of the caridean shrimp genus Lysmata Risso, 1816 is described from St. Helena and Ascension Island in the south-central Atlantic. Lysmata napoleoni sp. nov. is part of the so-called “long-branch group” of the genus and shows a strong morphological similarity with the eastern Atlantic L. seticaudata Risso, 1816, from which it can be distinguished by details of the accessory branch of the antennular flagellum. The new species also displays a unique and bright colour pattern and therefore can be easily recognised in the field. Furthermore, it is typically found in proximity of sea anemones, Telmatactis cricoides (Duchassaing), and appears to be an occasional fish cleaner.

Thomas Penswick, titular Bishop of Europum, and Vicar Apostolic of the Northern District, died at his brother’s house, The Manor House, Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire on 28th January 1836. He was aged sixty-three. His funeral in Liverpool was followed by his burial in the Catholic cemetery at Windleshaw, near St. Helens. He was succeeded by his coadjutor bishop, John Briggs. He inherited a district which stretched from the Scottish Border in the north to a line from the Humber to the Dee in the south. It encompassed the counties of Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland, Westmorland, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire and the Isle of Man, and although perhaps less in size geographically than the Western District, which took in the whole of Wales, it was nevertheless the largest in the number of missions, clergy and people. When Bishop Thomas Smith made his return to Propaganda in 1830, he reported 172 missions served by 115 secular priests, 31 Benedictines, 23 Jesuits or ‘Stonyhurst Priests’, 2 Franciscans and 1 Dominican, and an estimated Catholic population of 185,000. In addition there were three colleges, Ushaw, Ampleforth and Stonyhurst and four convents of nuns.

Abstract (sommario):
A new species of Anomaloglossus is described from the Venezuelan Guayana; it is the 21 st described species of Anomaloglossus from the Guiana Shield, and the 15 th from Venezuela. This species inhabits rainforest on granitic substrate on the northwestern edge of the Guiana Shield (Estado Amazonas, Venezuela). The new species is distinguished from congeners by sexual dimorphism, its unique male color pattern (including two bright orange parotoid marks and two orange paracloacal spots on dark brown background), call characteristics and other morphological features. Though to the new species is known only from the northwestern edge of the Guiana Shield, its distribution may be more extensive, as there are no significant biogeographic barriers isolating the type locality from the granitic lowlands of Venezuela.

Abstract (sommario):
The architectural heritage was seriously hit by the earthquake that occurred on April 6th 2009 in the Abruzzo region, especially considering the effects on a city with the size and with historical and strategic importance as a capital of a region, L’Aquila. The activities to protect that heritage have been centralized in the structure “Protection of Cultural Heritage” at Di.Coma.C. (Command and Control Quarter), managed by the Civil Protection Department. This allowed the cooperation among different involved subjects (Ministry of Cultural Heritage officers, experts on structural engineering from Universities and Fire Brigade teams), with their own specific knowledge. Keystone of the operating process was the standardization of the damage survey and of its immediate and correct interpretation, through dedicated survey forms for churches and palaces. The experience in the field of temporary safety measures was extremely interesting: ideas for engineering the process were developed, in cooperation with the work of the fire brigade men, that are highly experienced technicians in the “emergency” field. Finally, monitoring plans for some important monuments have been set up for the control of the damage progression and the analysis of the structural behavior of buildings after the earthquake and the execution of temporary interventions: two cases (St. Mark Church and the Spanish Fortress) are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
In the previous issue of Q.A.R. it was noted that G.K.E. Fairholme had three articles published in the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London in 1856 (Love 1984:97). Further research indicated that these were based upon information obtained during a trip down Moreton Bay in the company of the Lord Montagu party in 1853. This was revealed in the extensive Letter-Journal prepared by the Reverend Henry Stobart M.A., Tutor to Lord Montagu (Stobart 1896). It was compiled from letters he sent home to his mother in England. The Moreton Bay trip included Stradbroke Island, St. Helena Island, Pine River entrance, Bribie Island, Durundur, the Bunya scrub and Nerang Creek. Like Fairholme, Stobart writes about local aboriginal culture and thus provides a rare set of first-hand notes of use to archaeologists and culture historian alike.

Abstract (sommario):
Central to the successful advance of tissue engineering (e.g. 1, 2) is the development of highly engineered materials which trigger particular body responses to regenerate specific tissue or sets of tissue. Such properties as hydrophilicity, hydrolytic susceptibility, and protein-recognition behavior are critical to the success of tissue scaffolds. Poly(ethylene glycol) [PEG] is often introduced into scaffold polymers to tune hydrolytically controlled properties. Relatively little is known about the local morphology and nature of phase separation in these systems, however. This research studies the development of phase-separated morphology in blends and randommultiblock copolymers of a tyrosine-based poly(psuedo amino acid) [poly(DTE carbonate)] and PEG 1000 (fig. 1). This system exhibits attractive biocompatability, strength and modulus, and resorption behavior which can be controlled by main-chain and pendant-chain chemistries (3, 4).The nature of phase separation was studied by bright-field TEM (Philips CM30 ST; CM20 FEG TEM/STEM) using solvent-cast thin films.

Abstract (sommario):
1. Introduction In, a new method was proposed to reconstruct the exit wavefunction of an object from a combination of images at closely spaced focus values. Recently, in the framework of a Brite-Euram project, the method has been implemented on a Philips CM20 ST electron microscope equipment with Field emission source and CCD camera. The first experimental results for the high TC superconductor YBa2Cu4O8 are presented in. In this case, the object is very thin so that the phase of the wavefunction directly reveals the projected potential of the atom columns. The oxygen columns could be observed with a resolution of 0.13 nm. However, when the object is thicker, the one-to-one correspondence between the wavefunction and the projected structure is not so straightforward due to the dynamical diffraction. This is shown in Figure 1 for Ba2NaNb5O15 where the heavy columns are revealed in the amplitude and the bright columns in the phase.

Abstract (sommario):
This article situates the mass mariophanies reported at Zeitoun (Cairo), Egypt, from 1968 to 1971 in their historical, political, interfaith, and ecumenical contexts. The series of luminous apparitions above St. Mary’s Coptic Orthodox Church were first observed by nearby Muslim public transit workers. Soon after, the site attracted tens of thousands of Christian and Muslim pilgrims, many of whom observed bright light in the form of the Virgin Mary in addition to other manifestations, such as dove-shaped lights hovering above or near the church. Miraculous healings were also reported. The Zeitoun apparitions serve as a unique instance within the broader study of Marian apparitions by providing a non-Catholic example that took place within a Muslim-majority nation over a span of nearly three years. Moreover, full contextualization of the events in Zeitoun requires interdisciplinary attention spanning Middle Eastern, Islamic, and ecumenical studies; as such, the apparitions invite further and fuller examination in the secondary literature.

Abstract (sommario):
We present a case of a 48-year-old female patient successfully bridged to recovery with the Impella 5.0 microaxial pump (Abiomed, Danvers, MA USA) after presenting with cardiogenic shock secondary to acute fulminant viral myocarditis. After 1 week of flu-like symptoms, the patient presented to her community emergency department with chest pain and hypotension. A diagnosis of inferior ST elevation myocardial infarction was made; subsequent angiography demonstrated normal coronary arteries and a left ventricular ejection fraction of 10%. A provisional diagnosis of viral myocarditis was made. As her condition deteriorated further, she underwent insertion of an Impella 5.0 after failure of supportive medical therapy. Myocardial recovery occurred, and the Impella was removed after 1 week. After a prolonged cardiac intensive care unit stay requiring temporary hemodialysis, the patient recovered sufficiently to tolerate device explant, transfer to the recovery ward, and ultimate discharge home. This case report highlights the benefit of mechanical circulatory support in a patient with cardiogenic shock from viral myocarditis as well as some of the complications that can occur in this critically ill subset of patients.

Abstract (sommario):
The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of complementary and alternative medical applications (CAM) and non-drug treatments of women during their pregnancies, postpartum periods and the changes between these periods. The Screening Form for Non-pharmacologic Methods Used during Pregnancy and Postpartum period was administered to the participants. Passiflora (Incarnata), Hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort), omega 3 supplements, bright light treatment, transmagnetic stimulation, S-adenosyl-methionine, herbal teas, biofeedback/neurofeedback, amulets, exercise, acupuncture and psychotherapy were investigated. The ratio of the use of one of the CAM methods for psychiatric complaints during people's lifetime was found to be 33.3% (n=162). Herbal teas were the main practice used during pregnancy (58.8%) and the postpartum. The use of CAM according to the utilization periods of the participants statistically significantly decreased in those who were currently pregnant (Cochran's Q=298.007; P<0.05). The use of participants' non-drug treatments in the periodical follow-up decreased in those who are currently pregnant and increased during the postpartum period.

Abstract (sommario):
The Myers-Briggs type indicator (MBTI) was given to 163 students in an undergraduate Human Physiology course at a large state university. Selected MBTI personality types were compared for achievement in the course using a t test to compare total points earned. High grades were earned by students stronger in the traits of introversion (I) and judgment (J), whereas the extraverted (E) and perceptive (P) types had the lowest grades and dropped out of the course in the largest numbers. When combinations of MBTI types were compared, the highest grades were earned as follows: SJ greater than ST greater than IN greater than IJ greater than IS (S, sensing; T, thinking; N, intuitive). This ranking indicates that a sensing personality also has a strong relationship to achievement in this Human Physiology course when it is combined with judgment, thinking, or introversion. Instructors and students need to be aware of the relationship between personality and learning so they can modify their teaching style and learning behavior to enhance academic achievement.

Abstract (sommario):
This longitudinal, quasi-experimental study investigated students’ cognitive personality type using the Myers-Briggs personality Type Indicator (MBTI) in Internet-based Online and Face-to-Face (F2F) modalities. A total of 1154 students enrolled in 28 Online and 32 F2F sections taught concurrently over a period of fourteen years. The study measured whether the sample is similar to the national average percentage frequency of all 16 different personality types; whether specific personality type students preferred a specific modality of instructions and if this preference changed over time; whether learning occurred in both class modalities; and whether specific personality type students learned more from a specific modality. Data was analyzed using regression, t-test, frequency, and Chi-Squared. The study concluded that data used in the study was similar to the national statistics; that no major differences in preference occurred over time; and that learning did occur in all modalities, with more statistically significant learning found in the Online modality versus F2F for Sensing, Thinking, and Perceiving types. Finally, Sensing and Thinking (ST) and Sensing and Perceiving (SP) group types learned significantly more in Online modality versus F2F.

Abstract (sommario):
Since the former Cold War, the Federal Republic of Germany has had the closest, the most full-scale and different in the spectrum of tracks relations in the sphere of common strengthening of the defence capabilities with the continental Western European countries. First, these ones are France and the Netherlands. The article tries to explore German relations with these two countries in the military sphere during the modern period. The key research methods are event-analysis and comparative analysis. The paper covers the experience of the creation of the first bilateral and multilateral military groups of NATO member states` armed forces which consist of staffs and military forces of the mixed troop system. The article notes that first military groups of this kind were created on the territory of the united Germany and examines the reasons of this tendency. Special attention is paid to the development of German-Dutch Corpspotential. This one, the 1 st tank division and the division of rapid reaction forces (each of those divisions has one Dutch brigade) of the Bundeswehr are explored as military mechanisms of deep integration between the two countries. The article also identifies the features of military-technical German-Dutch cooperation, including their common efforts in the frames of Permanent Structured Cooperation platform. The article compares the scales and quality of German-Dutch and German-French cooperation. In this regard the paper rises the question about real military importance of German-French brigade and cooperation between two countries in military-technical field, including the creation of robotized technics. The paper shows the limits of German-French cooperation potential until the early 2020's.

<p><em>The paper evaluates various aspects of Anglo-Nigerian relations during 25 years of Nigeria’s independence. The analysis is meant to put us in a better position to fully understand the nature and trends of the bilateral relations even after the first 25 years of Nigeria’s independence. The analysis is supported by an avalanche of extant literature that abounds on Anglo-Nigerian relations since 1960 when Nigeria became politically independent.</em><strong><em></em></strong></p><em>The unraveling of the literature is illuminating. One, the trend of Anglo-Nigerian relations has remained largely unchanged even in the 21st century. Two, although there have been occasional outbursts of misunderstanding and disagreements between both countries, such disagreements have never been allowed to go to the extent of causing protracted diplomatic rupture between them. Three, the prospects of improved relations between the two countries remain ever bright. In the final analysis, it is recommended that Anglo-Nigerian relations should be improved, nurtured and strengthened for the mutual benefits of both countries.</em>

Abstract (sommario):
The East Melanesian Islands have been a focal area for research into island biogeography and community ecology. However, previously undescribed and biogeographically significant new species endemic to this region continue to be discovered. Here we describe a phylogenetically distinct (~20% divergence at the mitochondrial ND2 gene) and biogeographically disjunct new species of gecko in the genus Gehyra, from the Admiralty and St Matthias Islands. Gehyra rohan sp. nov. can be distinguished from all congeners by the combination of its very large size, ring of bright orange scales around the eye, moderate degree of lateral folding on the limbs and body, and aspects of head, body and tail scalation. Molecular data indicate mid to late Miocene divergence of the new species from nearest relatives occurring nearly 2000 kilometres away in Vanuatu and Fiji. Large Gehyra have not been recorded on the intervening large islands of the Bismark Archipelago (New Britain and New Ireland) and the Solomon Islands, suggesting this dispersal pre-dated the current configuration of these islands, extinction in intervening regions, or potentially elements of both. Conversely, low genetic divergence between disjunct samples on Manus and Mussau implies recent overseas dispersal via either natural or anthropogenic means.

Abstract (sommario):
Classic domestic clinical medicine academician Theophil Gavrilovich Yanovsky was one of the leaders of the therapeutic elite, established in Russia in the first decades of the XX century. He was famous for his diagnostic skills. So, probably the first of Russian doctors, he put a lifetime diagnosis of pulmonary infarction and described the smell of rotten hay from a patient with tuberculosis and konjunktivalnyj symptom in typhus typhoid. Along with V. P Obraztsov, he created the third scientific center of domestic therapy at the Kiev University of St. Vladimir - after the Military medical Academy in St. Petersburg and the Moscow University. He owns notable scientific works on the problems of bacteriology, tuberculosis, functional diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease, pathology of the digestive system, on improving the methods of direct study of the patient. As an outstanding specialist in resort treatment (at sea, Alpine and local resorts) he was well known not only in Russia but also in Europe. The first of the Soviet clinicians, he was elected academician (in the all-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences). He created a large and bright clinical school; among his students are academicians VN. Ivanov (Kiev), V. H. Vasilenko and B. E. Votchal (Moscow). However, the main reason for the extraordinary popularity of the doctor Was the extremely attractive appearance of this doctor; his life and death became a worthy completion of the national tradition of medical asceticism, the emergence of which is usually associated with the name Of the Moscow “Saint doctor”. The judge of the honor Society of physicians, F. G. Janowski was ready at any time of the day to reliably and free of charge to treat the whole city, and when he died, the whole of Kiev came out to bury him - with white lilies and the funeral service of the Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant and Jewish rites. More so not buried doctors in Russia.

Abstract (sommario):
The article examines the peculiarity of the concept of the linguistic style of the literature of Kyiv Rus, which is closely linked with the traditions of the scientific study of this very “red writing”. The specificity of Old Russian literature as medieval leads to its almost church character, and the specific "simplicity" in the structure of secular literary works of its own, such as "The Word of the Igor's Regiment," forcing researchers to engage in secular business texts, for example, the chronicles that are works of historical the genre. That is, in this case, the peculiarity of the concept of literary language reflecting the peculiarity of the notion of ancient Russian literature, which is by no means the "artistic" literature of the modern type, or fiction. Accordingly, the volume of materials that should serve to study the stylistics of literature of the Kiev Rus era is determined by the peculiarity of scientific ideas about the very literature itself and about the literary language in which it is created. These considerations make us propose as an auxiliary "meter" to study the style of literature of the Kiev Rus age the criterion of reflection or absence of certain poetics in the texts. As is well known, the phenomenon of poetics is legitimately extended to folklore, to contemporary business writing, and to non-folklore oral speech activity. Thus we get the opportunity to define in the same graffiti Kiev Saint Sophia's Cathedral style of church writing and oral canon, folklore and business law. But with such an approach, the bright feature of the stylistics of graffiti Sofia of Kiev in the comparison with the volume similar to the volume of graffiti texts of Novgorod Saint Sofia Cathedral is immediately striking: among the Kiev graphite there is practically no folklore of origin, not to mention the reflection of the pagan rituals that we find on the walls of the Novgorod Saint Sofia Cathedral. This conclusion can be reliably based on statistical data. But when the researchers find in the texts of the XI–XIII centuries. syllabic or "elements of sillabotonism", it is worth reminding of the very probable chance of an appropriate combination of sounds and syllables. It is much more reliable to refer some graffiti to the clerical poem. But we must not forget the hypotheticalness of such identification in general, as well as the fact that only the adaptation of the Byzantine poem to the Slavic language context can be considered.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The aim of this work was to develop a red clover variety adapted to agro-climatic conditions of Latvia, suitable for different requirements of forage producers, resistant to most widespread diseases and producing high seed yield annually. Medium late ripening diploid red clover variety ‘Jancis’ was created at the LLU Research Institute of Agriculture in long-term work carried out since 1985. After free pollination of best samples of red clover collections from the VIR (St. Petersburg), individual and family selection among hybrids were carried out for approximately 20 years. Finally, best breeding line Nr. 43047 was registered as a variety ‘Jancis’. The variety is characterised by good winter hardiness, high dry matter yield (10-12 t·ha-1) and good persistence in the sward - up to 3-4 years. The variety is characterised by a long stem (90-110 cm) with 8-9 internodes, dark green leaves with a distinctive brighter picture, medium length and width of medial leaflet, and bright pink flower heads. ‘Jancis’ has stable annual seed yield in the conditions of Latvia; under favourable conditions reaching 500- 600 kg·ha-1 seeds. Since 2010, the variety ‘Jancis’ has been included in the common Latvian and EU Plant Variety Catalogue.

Abstract (sommario):
The article analyses the problem of implementing legislation on medical care in the army during the reign of Peter the Great and Anna Ioannovna. The Admiralty Regulations of 1722 and the General Regulations on Hospitals of 1735 announced meticulously prescribed standards for taking care of patients in military hospitals, as well as the number, qualifications and duties of medical personnel in those centers. According to scholars, both documents represent bright examples of the authorities’ faith in the possibility of resolving of crisis in the work of any institution by detailed regulation of all aspects of its activities. However, a research on conditions of service of army employees and state of military health care implies a study based on local material and functioning of certain hospitals. The author focuses on the history of medical institutions in fortresses located on the Russian-Swedish border. The study was carried out on the basis of reports received in St. Petersburg from the border fortresses and devoted to the number of sick employees in the Vyborg and Kexholm garrisons, their diseases and providing them medical care. It is revealed that the military infirmaries have been opened in Vyborg and Kexholm in the early 1720s. And the number and qualifications of the medical personnel met the requirements of the state legislation. Nevertheless, the employees of the local garrisons suffered the same hardships as military men in other north-western fortresses (St. Petersburg, Kronstadt, Riga). This is indicated by the spread of diseases typical for the northern regions and poorly victualled communities, limited in access to proper food and clean sources of water (scurvy, typhus, digestive disorders). Along with that, the region had its own specifics: despite the harsh climate, work on fortifications was carried out from early Spring. Therefore, the soldiers were often hospitalised due to frostbite and colds. From the number of employees sent to the hospital for treatment 66 % died within six months. The most vulnerable group were employees of the first and second years of service under the age of 30. However, the situation in the fortresses did not become critical and epidemics were avoided.

Blanchard, Maine DEP – Div. of Response Services, #17 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333At the height of WWII in February of 1944, the 428-ft British ship EMPIRE KNIGHT ran aground on Boon Island Ledge off York, Maine during a storm. It broke in two and sank with the stern section in 243-ft of water where it remains today. Her hull contained 10,000-bbls of diesel fuel oil, military tank and locomotive parts, 5-in cannon shells and 16,000-lbs of elemental mercury stored in 221 glass and steel carboys. This poster summarizes the wreck disposition and its environmental assessment and ongoing monitoring. In 1993, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) oversaw an emergency removal of 1,200-lbs elemental mercury through a hole cut in stern cargo hold #5 representing &lt;10% of the cargo of elemental mercury. Much of the mercury is assumed to have migrated to the lower portion of the shipwreck beneath a cargo of military hardware and live ammunition. Since much of the mercury is believed to remain on-site, a permanent safety zone was established in 1995 within a 1000-yd radius prohibiting activities such as commercial salvage that could spread contamination. Mercury is a priority pollutant that accumulates in marine life and can bio-magnify in the environment. Results of bio-monitoring in 1998, 2004 and 2012 using blue mussels (Mytilus edulis) supported previous findings and indicated mercury does not pose unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. Moreover, average concentrations of mercury across the three years are less than averages in mussels sampled from 2007 to 2009 in areas of the Gulf of Maine coast that have no known point source of mercury contamination. NOAA ranked EMPIRE KNIGHT 12th among 13 RULET shipwrecks in USCG District 1 with “medium” risk of oil discharge. Disturbing the wreck to recover oil onboard has the potential to spread contamination and make the mercury more bioavailable.

Abstract (sommario):
In article is covered the history of one of interesting educational institutions of the beginning of the 1920th – Vladimir Bekhterev`s Pedagogical institute for social breeding and research of the normal and defective child acting as a part of Psychoneurological academy in 1921-1925. Addressing unpublished documentation from funds of the Central state archive of St. Petersburg, the State archive of the Russian Federation, authors reconstruct history of creation and feature of functioning of Institute, investigate its scientific educational program and possibilities of its realization in practice, characterize structure and dynamics of training of students, place emphasis on establishment of interrelation of Institute with other institutions and laboratories of Psychoneurological academy, providing his functioning infrastructure. Authors draw a conclusion that the Vladimir Bekhterev`s Pedagogical institute for social breeding and research of the normal and defective child became useful experience of coordination of theoretical researches and applied developments in field of experimental pedagogics of the 1920th. Classical psychoneurological theories, on the one hand, and the ideas of the doctrine of V.M. Bekhterev - reflexology (individual and collective) - with another have been the basis for an institution. The educational program offered as a result differed from existing at that time and assumed attention to a labor element of education and a priority of a practical training over theoretical. The last answered the essential tasks set for scientific community and it was demanded in the early twenties: the project has got public financing and support. Though the idea of Institute was impractical, it reflects a bright, contradictory and interesting era of experimental science in the 1920th.

Abstract (sommario):
Use of antiplatelet agents is becoming increasingly common, and their management may require new strategies if neuroaxial techniques are to be employed in patients who will not tolerate discontinuation of antiplatelet therapy. The patient was a 46-year-old man with a past medical history significant for coronary artery disease and who had undergone 14 stents. He developed stent thrombosis (ST) while on clopidogrel. Following the ST, he was subsequently placed on prasugrel. While on prasugrel, the patient presented for an intrathecal drug delivery system (IDDS) trial and placement due to severe peripheral neuropathy unresponsive to several conservative medical treatments. He had previously undergone an unsuccessful spinal cord stimulator trial and received no pain relief. In consultation with his outside cardiologist, the patient received permission to hold his prasugrel for 7 days prior to his intrathecal pump trial. During the trial period’s inpatient hospitalization, the patient developed chest pain. In consultation with the cardiology service in our institution, it was decided antiplatelet therapy should be re-instituted. The patient was bridged to his IDDS placement after the trial with intravenous eptifibatide. The eptifibatide drip was administered 6 hours prior to the IDDS implant. Functional platelet count was checked one hour before the IDDS was placed and the pump was placed without incident. The eptifibatide drip was reinstituted one hour after the IDDS implantation. The patient was observed for 24 hours on the eptifibatide drip, transitioned to his home dose of prasugrel, and discharged home. At outpatient follow-up one week later, the patient demonstrated no neurologic or hemorrhagic complications and was satisfied with the pain control provided by the IDDS. Prasugrel is an irreversible platelet inhibitor, which prevents ADP-induced platelet aggregation by binding the P2Y12 receptor. Patients taking prasugrel will have deficient platelet activity until new platelets have been produced, a span of approximately 7 days. Eptifibatide is an intravenous glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor with a short half-life of 2½ hours. Inhibition of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa prevents platelet activation and aggregation. The drug effect ceases once it is discontinued and restoration of platelet function is not dependent upon new platelet production. Patients requiring antiplatelet therapy in need of neuroaxial pain management procedures present challenging problems to pain management physicians. Current guidelines from the American Society of Regional Anesthesia have not identified any bridging agent suitable for patients who may not tolerate prolonged withdrawal from their antiplatelet therapy. In this case, eptifibatide was successfully utilized to bridge a patient whose comorbid conditions necessitated continuous antiplatelet therapy without the prolonged washout common to irreversible antiplatelet agents. Key words: Intrathecal drug delivery system, anticoagulation, pain, eptifibatide, antiplatelet agents.
