Abstract (sommario):
The article is devoted to the notion of discourse and discursive space and revealing the specifics of e-sports discursive space. The article touches upon some problems of research of the discourse and discursive space in Anglo-American, French, German and Russian linguistic conceptions. The notion of e-sports discursive space is introduced for the first time in the linguistic analysis and is characterized as a hybrid dimension incorporating interplay e-sport discourse, mass media discourse, sport medical discourse and internet-discourse. E-sports discursive space may be exposed as a field structure the kernel link of which appears e-sports interplay discourse, uniting game patches and some commands and orders uttered by the cyber-sportsman in the process of the game. It is compressed, well-packed by terminological nominations and directive speech acts, comprising instructions and recommendations on using the avatars. It nominates the user name as an avatar, its game characteristics (forces, power, dexterity etc) and innovations in the system of a game. The other mentioned types of discourses lay on a periphery of the discursive field. Mass-media discourse advances the e-sports discursive space in the field of media translation giving it liveliness, fancy, imagination, expressiveness and evaluative characteristics opposite to some dryness and laconism of interplay e-sports discourse. Sport-medical discourse concerns and discusses physical, psychological and emotional states of e-sportsmen. Internet discourse is realized in the form of chats, blogs an vlogs of e-sportsmen arguing about qualities of sportsmen, advantages and disadvantages of avatars ans strategies of the game. The uniting link of all the discourses included into the single whole e-sports discursive space proves to be the criterion of integrity that is expressed through the unity of the topic, semantics, structure, time and space and event and situation continuum. A special place and significance in the e-sports discursive space is taken by a discursive personality. E-sports discursive personality is realized in e-sports discursive space heterogeneously: on the first level - as a text personality of the avatar and on the second level - as a language personality of the real e-sportsman avatar carrier. The values underlying the e-sports discursive space correspond to sport discourse values getting a victory and with personal discourse orientation getting maximum success in self-development in the field of physical and mental health, psychological robustness, reaction speed, logical strategies etc. E-sport discursive space may be represented as also a cognitive one where an important place is taken by e-sport terminology.

Abstract (sommario):
In the study, we tried to point out, on the basis of comparison conclusions of several research works, how much the psycho-physiological aspects contribute to influencing the conception of sport preparation in terms of the philosophical context of preparation in traditional martial arts. We elucidated the perception of the difference between martial arts and combat sports and emphasized the psychological dimension of training in sports karate in relation to physical training. At the same time, we were looking for relationships that would give us an answer as to which of these aspects are more effective in terms of sports performance. In conclusion, on the basis of a comprehensive content analysis of the findings, we draw attention to the fact that only the mutual correlation of both selected aspects can achieve the desired results in the training of karate practitioners.

Abstract (sommario):
Relevance. Sports activity in the human mind most often causes associations with physical activity, a competitive process in the realization of human physical capabilities. It is the active external activity using the human body that most often appears to us as the most vivid association with such a phenomenon as sports. Nevertheless, regardless of the sports activity, sometimes we can see completely unexpected results of competitions. Cases when, by all parameters, the favorite, the person who promises victory before the start of the confrontation, is defeated as a result by a weaker opponent. Or, for example, situations in which an incredibly talented athlete with personal innate qualities for a particular sport achieves significantly less success at a distance than a not so talented athlete, but at the same time a strong-willed, hardworking athlete who is suitable for every training session with a serious attitude. The purpose of the study is to determine the theoretical and methodological aspects of psychological training of athletes. Methods and organization of research. The criteria for the psychological preparation of an athlete are such parameters as: orientation in space, a sense of distance, speed of reaction, logical and tactical thinking, concentration of attention, stable emotional state, etc.The results of the study and their discussion. The interaction of coaches, athletes and the organization also has an important impact on the psychological readiness of athletes. Communication between these categories of people is of great importance here. Their ideas about the goals, opportunities and means of achieving these goals should at least have similarities and some commonality.Conclusions. The main category of psychological readiness becomes psychological stability, which includes a stable emotional background, a mood for victory, and concentration on achieving goals despite negative and disturbing factors.

Abstract (sommario):
The Ethical Duality in Sports: Social and Psychological Aspects of Transgender ParticipationHistorically the notion about the understanding of women has been patriarchal in nature. The postmodern world has an inclination to redefine social mores. The prevailing thought in the 20th and 21st centuries supports the same thesis. The transformation of attitudes appears to be a regular phenomenon in the understanding of the issue at hand, thereby enlivening the motif of unity between the two. Gender, transgender, sexuality, etc., are in a state of transformation, so that to interpret and reinterpret a state of understanding and re-understanding of the issue of participation in sports has multiple significations. Sport in the 21st century constructs inimitable challenges for trans-athletes. A broad spectrum of identities is included under the umbrella of transgender identity. Transsexual or transitioned athletes may pose the greatest challenge to equity in sex-segregated sport competition. The subject under deliberation has a large number of interpretations, all of which center on a need to ‘deconstruct’ the present structuration of acceptance of sex and gender terminology. There is certainly a need to think and contemplate in broader terms about the meanings that assess the well-defined boundaries between disciplines of research. The present thesis highlights a deconstructive stance.

Abstract (sommario):
This study investigated the perceptions of certified athletic trainers concerning their attitudes, beliefs, and application of a variety of psychological strategies and techniques used in the treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The Athletic Training and Sport Psychology Questionnaire (ATSPQ) was adapted from instruments developed by Wiese, Weiss, and Yukelson (1991) and Brewer, Van Raalte, and Linder (1991). The ATSPQ, a letter of introduction, and a self-addressed stamped envelope were distributed to 1,000 certified athletic trainers randomly selected from the membership database maintained by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). Only 482 (48.2%) of these questionnaires returned were usable. 47% of athletic trainers who responded believe that every injured athlete suffers psychological trauma. 24% reported that they have referred an athlete for counseling for situations related to their injury, and 25% reported that they have a sport psychologist as a member of their sports medicine team. This study concludes that future education of athletic trainers should address the psychological aspects of injury treatment as well as the development of a sport psychology referral network.

Abstract (sommario):
<div>The aim of this study was to assess occurrence of sports injuries among professional male soccer players in relation to their psychological characteristics. This prospective cohort study was conducted during the 2013/2014 sports season among all professional players with the first team contract in the first Croatian soccer league. A stratified sample of 182 male soccer players were selected for the assessment. They were surveyed during their preparation period before the beginning of the season and were under monitoring during the season. Seriousness of injuries was assessed depending on the length (one day or more) of players’ non-participation in sports activities. Psychological characteristics were assessed by the General Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7), Revised Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, impulsive behaviour scale from the Zuckerman-Kuhlman Personality Questionnaire Cross-Cultural 50-item version and Psychological Skills Inventory for Sports. Majority of players (62.6%) experienced a kind of injury, with the mean number of 1.28 injuries per player, and 30.7% of them contracted severe injuries. Results of the binary regression model suggest that likelihood of being injured is mostly influenced by higher Impulsive Sensation Seeking and GAD-7 scores (OR=1.26 in both cases). In contrast, adequate mental preparation significantly lowers the chance of being injured (OR=0.89).The study adds an insight into proportions, severity, mechanisms and number of sport injuries in the population of Croatian professional soccer players. We propose several variables as important predictors of future injuries. Some scales, commonly used in this field, have been shown to be less useful in injury prediction.</div>

Abstract (sommario):
Self-regulation is one of the main resources contributing to the productive realization of activity and getting satisfaction from life. The aim of the study was to investigate the role of different aspects of self-regulation in the development of intrinsic motivation to practice sports and the level of life satisfaction in athletes. To study different aspects of self-regulation, the «Self-Government Test» of J. Kuhl and A. Fuhrman was used. To study the level of intrinsic motivation «The Sport Motivation Scale» was used. The «Life Satisfaction Scale» and «The Negative and Positive Emotion Scale» by E. Diener were used to test the degree of life satisfaction. The research involved 178 athletes aged from 17 to 33 years (M = 19,38; SD = 1,88), having titles from junior to Master of Sports International Class. Regression analysis showed that aspects of self-regulation such as planning, sensitivity to own values and emotional regulation in athletes contribute to a higher level of life satisfaction. A comparison of groups with different levels of self-regulation showed that athletes with higher levels of self-regulation skill are characterized by a more stable internal motivation to do sports and less expression of negative experiences; they experience positive emotions more often. In addition, it has been demonstrated that the most developed indicators of volitional regulation are characteristic of athletes at the initial and professional level of skill, as compared to those who are at the intermediate stage. Thus, self-regulation is one of the most important resources of athletes, important not only for their professional performance, but for a sense of well-being and life satisfaction.

Abstract (sommario):
Although most football players recover good physical function after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery, some do not return to their sport or to the same pre-injury level, and there is a risk of recurrence. Therefore, this study aimed to examine research on psychological aspects of ACL rehabilitation and Return to Play (RTP), as well as their influence on possible recurrence in football and futsal players. The search was conducted using the Scopus, PubMed, WoS, CENTRAL databases, and grey literature sources DART-Europe and OpenGrey. A total of nine studies met the inclusion criteria. The results indicated as the most evaluated psychological factor the psychological readiness to RTP through the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Return to Sport After Injury (ACL-RSI). Likewise, psychological interventions in ACL-injured football players have positive effects on mood states, reduces pain perception, and fear reinjury, among others. Risk profiles for recurrence included vulnerability to stress and high psychological readiness to RTP. Therefore, psychological interventions should be incorporated into the rehabilitation process and screening to identify players at risk for poor outcomes or recurrences. Additional research would help to understand the influence of other variables or optimal levels of psychological readiness to RTP. Abstract (sommario):
The article substantiates the relevance of studying athletic motivation in preschool children, due to the fact that an interest in sports activities arises at that early age, when physical activity, moral-volitional qualities and behavioral characteristics develop, and the foundation is laid for further development of personality and physical improvement of the body, which strengthens children’s health and helps to increase their resistance to harmful external influences. The paper contains the results of the authors’ study of the motivation of sports activities in children of senior preschool age. It describes their motivational sphere and interests in sports activities. It shows correlations between children’s motivation for sports activities and positive emotional assessment, approval of their athletic interests by close people, confirming the authors’ hypothesis. In order to form a sustainable interest of preschool children in physical activity and to increase the psychological competence of their parents in the development of motor activity and sports activities, we recommend to organize cooperation of teachers and parents, meetings with coaches, encouraging parents to show their interest in sports activities and involvement in them, as well as attitudes towards sports and a healthy lifestyle. The materials and recommendations presented in the article can be successfully used by teachers of preschool educational institutions and various sports clubs and schools.

Abstract (sommario):
IntroductionCommitment to sports is especially important for well-being in people with disabilities (Malm et al., 2019), although mental health problems are common among Paralympic athletes (Hunt et al., 2019). Importance of representations of and regulation in sport situations was supported for different kind of sports (Moran, 1993, Suinn R., 1982, Hardy et al., 1996) but Paralympic ones.ObjectivesThe aim was to reveal aspects of psychological regulation important for achievement and longer commitment to Paralympic sports comparing to non-Paralympic sports.Methods51 athletes from Paralympic sports (49.1% candidates and masters of sports) filled Questionnaire of Image Representations of Professional Activity of Athletes (Leonov et al., 2020) measuring general importance and self-appraisals of different aspects of image representation and regulation in sport activities: control of temporal, spatial, informational, technical and tactical, energetic aspects, game intelligence, motivational, emotional and social aspects (Cronbach’s alphas .61-.89). Data were compared to 399 athletes without disabilities (48.4% candidates and masters of sports).ResultsComparing to athletes without disabilities, Paralympic athletes higher appraise general importance and their capacities for emotion regulation during sport situation (t=2.26-3.35, p<.01). High-level Paralympic atheletes report marginally better emotion regulation (t=1.74, p<.10). Longer experience in sport in Paralympic athletes is associated with better representations of spatial and social aspects of sport situations and better emotion regulation (r=.25-.29, p<.05).ConclusionsData suggest that improvement of emotion regulation in sport situation in Paralympic athletes could be helpful for longer participation and better achievement. Abstract (sommario):
We present the results of a theoretical analysis of the psychological bases of success of athletes. We provide an overview of studies of the factors influencing the success of the activities in the sport. Sports activities are considered as a joint activity of athlete and coach, the success of which is affected by the personal qualities and characteristics of the relationship of its members. We summarize the main approaches to the study of personality and social psychological aspects of successful athletes and coaches. As the main factors in the success of sports activities, we considered individual psychological characteristics of athletes (motives, attitudes, modes of behavior and response), and socio-psychological characteristics of the interaction of coach and athlete (leadership style, the nature of interpersonal relationships and role expectations). We emphasize the importance of mutual role expectations of athlete and coach to achieve high results of sports activity.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper seeks to review the literature and address ethical implications of organized contact sports, such as American football and boxing, with significant child or adolescent participation. Child and adolescent sport participation act not only as a leisure activity, but also improves physical health and enhances psychological and social health outcomes. However, playing sports may also have negative physiological effects, such as sports-related concussions (SRCs) - a form of traumatic brain injury (TBI) - which are an emerging public health concern. This paper review and explores ethical implications of contact sports in the scientific literature and demonstrates challenged faced on philosophical deliberation on the ethical implications of SRCs and RHIs due to complexities of these conditions and their identification and treatment involving a wide variety of practical situations, which formal sports rules may not adequately address. Since scholarly literature has yet to arrive at a consensus concerning causal link(s) between contact sports participation and significant concussion-related brain damage, the paper argues in favor of strengthening concussion preventive measures, identification protocols and management procedures in contact sports. This article rejects ethical paternalism on the basis of inconclusive empirical evidence concerning associations between contact sports participation and heightened SRC risk. It also rejects Mill’s argumentation against consensualism and suggests prevention is a better solution over inadequately founded philosophical ethical proposals favoring drastically reforming contact sports.

Abstract (sommario):
Sports injuries have historically been addressed and treated from a purely physical perspective. Nevertheless, like in many other aspects of sports, it has become evident during the last decades that psychological considerations and consequent interventions are both vital and inevitable in the work with athletes, particularly in the work with junior athletes. Especially in the domains of sports injury prevention and rehabilitation, psychological measures can yield significant benefits for junior athletes. Stress management techniques, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, motor imagery, or seeking social support have been demonstrated as being highly effective. These techniques, many of them originally intended by sport psychologists to optimize performance, now aid junior athletes in performing at their best while also preventing injury and facilitating a safe return to competition after injury. During injury rehabilitation, sport psychological measures play an important role as well. The purpose of this review is firstly to provide an overview of the psychological factors that significantly support both injury prevention and rehabilitation. We subsequently elaborate on the identification and optimization of these factors by presenting evidence-based psychological interventions and training programs. In addition, we provide science-informed fundamentals that may serve as a basis for the adaptation and/or development of novel psychological measures to support junior athletes during injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Abstract (sommario):
Recent studies have shown that testosterone, in addition to its well-known anabolic effect, has a relationship with a number of psychological and psychophysiological characteristics. The purpose of the study is to generalize information about the relationship between psychophysiological aspects of personality and the level of testosterone in athletes. Methodology: analysis and generalization of data of modern scientific and methodological literature from scientometric bases and resources of Google Scholar, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus. Research results and their discussion. Research by scientists has shown that high concentrations of basal testosterone are associated with a number of character traits and behavior. Competition, rivalry, competitions affect changes in testosterone levels and cause behavior modification. Scientists express the opinion that the basal level of testosterone before competitions can be an individual biopsychophysiological marker that interacts in the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary hormonal axis (HPA) under stress conditions and reflects the degree of dominance, the level of power motivation and obtaining a winning status. In separate studies, the positive effect of testosterone on cognitive functions and visual-spatial abilities was established, the relationship of this hormone with the propensity to take risks, reducing the feeling of fear, increasing attention in the face of threat, which can contribute to the combat readiness of the athlete and the desire to win, was established. Scientists have observed a connection between testosterone and such personality traits as fearless dominance, impulsiveness. Conclusions. According to literary sources, the level of testosterone is associated with a number of psychophysiological and psychological characteristics of an athlete, namely, it increases aggression, the motivation to dominate, which contributes to the motivation to achieve success in sports. High endogenous concentrations of testosterone can provide both a physiological and a psychological advantage in sports. The study of hormonal and psychophysiological parameters can provide an opportunity for a more complete assessment of human stress reactions in the conditions of sports competition.

Abstract (sommario):
Relevance. The article deals with the issue of the influence of sports activity on the formation of a person's personality. Two aspects of the problem are noted. Firstly, the influence of sports activity on the personality of an athlete is analyzed. Such personality traits as willpower, purposefulness, overcomingdoubts, the ability to concentrate in achieving the goal are emphasized. The role of sport in fostering a sense of patriotism is particularly noted. Secondly, the question of the role of sport in the formation of a personality that is not directly related to sports activities is raised. The article also analyzes the conflict nature of sports and its impact on the psychological state of the individual. The purpose of the study is to characterize the influence of sports on the psychological state of a person in the historical aspect. Methods and organization of research. The experience of participating in sports battles cements certain psychological properties of a person, which turns out to be important for non-sports life. If we keep in mind collective sports, then the feelings of collectivism are important here, the ability to correct the mistakes of a friend without directing the fire of criticism at him. Empathy for him, the readiness of support, even emotional, is a sign not just of good breeding, but also of a culture of humanistic relations. Sports battles, especially in team competitions at international competitions. they are connected with a sense of patriotism. The aspect of the problem that is associated with such an important feature of sports as conflict is very important. Sport is a conflict type of activity, it is its immanent property, a manifestation of its essence. Researchers of the nature of the conflict note that it is based on contradictions of needs, motives, goals, attitudes, views, behavior in the process of interaction of individuals. Sport by its nature is a system of contradictions, it is an eternal rivalry, the goal of which is victory. Conclusions. The influence of sports activity on the psychological state of a person is multifaceted and diverse, which actualizes the problem for sports practitioners, psychologists, philosophers, and representatives of a number of other sciences.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives The purpose of this qualitative study was to confirm the effects of the absence of sport psychologists in sport clubs from the perspective of the coaches. Furthermore, to investigate the effects of this absence on athlete performance, as well as the reasons for eliminating this specialty at sport clubs. Methods The researcher used a descriptive approach with an inductive method to identify the participants' visions and interpretations. Thematic Analysis, a qualitative data analysis method in descriptive research (Braun & Clarke, 2006), were used to analyze data in this study. NVivo coding, a computer software package for analyzing qualitative data, was used by the researcher to analyze all of the interview texts.. Results Once the data collection is complete, all interviews were thematically identified and categorized into four themes. The following topics were identified as themes: 1) The professional system at sports clubs, 2) The economic component, 3) The prevalent social culture, and 4) The lack of application of governance principles in sports federations and clubs. These were the most prominent themes that emerged from coaches' visions and interpretations based on their experiences in sports clubs. Conclusions Due to a lack of psychological preparation in pre and post-sport competitions, there is a gap in the training process. This results in a decline in both physical and psychological aspects in athletes, as well as the possibility of psychological distress. A lack of psychological preparation may also be an impediment for sports clubs.

Abstract (sommario):
Creating successful athletes has four main aspects: physical, technical, tactical, and psychological. This research focused on the psychological aspects of athletes. Psychological aspects are fundamental in determining successful sporting achievements, one of which is the aspect of mental toughness. Mental toughness is one of the factors that can influence the psychological state of athletes during training and competition, especially for students, so it can help athletes display their best performance. The objective of this research was to assess the mental toughness of student-athletes while they are practicing and competing, which was closely linked to their level of achievement. The study consisted of 275 student-athletes as subjects, and the data was collected using a questionnaire that consisted of the Mental Toughness scale. Results: The mental toughness of student-athletes was low, and mental toughness was not dependent on the athlete's level of competition. However, it is expected that athletes competing at the national level would have higher levels of mental toughness than those at lower levels due to their increased experience in competition. Conclusion: This research suggested that the government should collaborate with sports psychologists to improve mental health among student-athletes to help them achieve the best performance, which leads to becoming champions in various sports categories. These findings provided a basis for further investigation. Keywords: Sport, Psychology, Mental Toughness, Student-Athlete.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is about "Psychological assistance in sport". For decades, psychologists have been advising athletes and coaches, helping them at training camps, during competitions and even in the recovery period. The qualification of specialists grows from year to year, new directions, methods and ways of help appear; the work is carried out in multifaceted directions. The first thing a sports psychologist starts his work with is to find out the reasons and reasons for seeking psychological help from an athlete or a coach. The author takes the view that the important aspects of the process of contacting a psychologist are not only taking into account the athlete's complaints voiced, but also identifying the hidden content of his expectations and perceptions, as well as discovering the meaningful subtext of the treatment. Whereas in the traditional approach, these aspects are often not taken into account by the psychologist and the opportunity to specify, i.e. identify the expected help from the sports psychologist and apply it productively in counselling is not always fully realized. The author relies on the concept of a request for psychological help, developed by Stolin V.V., Loseva V. K., Lunkov A. I. and substantiates the types of requests for psychological help in sports, formulated as a model. The paper presents the results of the experimental work, which prove the existence of typological groups of requests for psychological help of athletes and coaches. The study has shown the necessity of developing this issue and extending the process of further conceptualization, as well as facilitating empirical research in this field and its practical application in sports psychology.

Abstract (sommario):
A multidimensional scaling analysis was used to investigate the psychological structure underlying college students’ perceptions of 12 practitioners: sport psychologist, clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, coach, psychiatrist, counselor, performance consultant, nutritionist, sports medicine specialist, strength coach, hypnotist, and technical equipment advisor. For this analysis, 200 male and female undergraduates completed 66 scales rating the psychological similarity between all possible pairs of the 12 practitioners. The R2 of .84 and stress value of .17 indicated that a two-dimensional solution was the best fit for the similarity ratings. The first dimension was identified as separating practitioners specializing in the mental aspects of performance from those specializing in the physical aspects of performance. The second dimension separated sport practitioners from nonsport practitioners. Interestingly, subjects perceived sport psychologists as being concerned with mental, nonsport issues. The results are discussed in terms of the relationships among the various practitioners.

Abstract (sommario):
Identifying the factors of the formation of sports skills of young athletes is necessary for increasing the level of preparedness, improving the management of the educational and training process, forecasting in the field of sports, specifying tasks, choosing means, and rationalizing the planning of the training process. The analysis of literature and practice shows that selection is a system of organizational and methodical measures of a complex nature, including pedagogical, sociological, psychological and medical-biological studies, on the basis of which aptitudes and abilities are revealed. The development of a system of methods for the selection and forecast of promising athletes requires knowledge of the requirements of the sport, which include the presence of specific morphofunctional features, physical qualities, coordination abilities, functional features of support and regulation systems, as well as mental qualities. Of particular importance is the selection of not only those future athletes whose anthropometric and physiological or some other indicators are suitable, but also athletes with aptitudes. With their help, you can solve the problems of training sports reserves, without which progress in sports is impossible. The method of sports selection at the stage of initial training is determined by the main task of the first level of selection – to help the child choose the right sport for classes and future improvement. The ideal solution to the selection problem is model characteristics for all aspects of physical development and sports-pedagogical activities from beginners to highly qualified athletes.

Abstract Drug abuse among athletes is a current and very important issue, both ethically and in terms of health risks. In addition to the drugs prescribed for the treatment of some diseases, athletes can also use substances that artificially increase their performance, such as: stimulants, anabolics, opioids, erythropoietin, diuretics as well as substances used to mask the prohibited substances. The aim of this study is to review the data from the literature about the use of various drugs by athletes, for therapeutic purposes, or to increase sports performance. Methods: We identified several studies using the on-line databases, and the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Searches were limited to full-text English-language journal articles published between 2003 and 2014. Results: After the primary analyses we selected a total of 30 relevant studies on this topic. Even if there is progress in detecting prohibited substances that increase sports performance, doping prevalence persists in sport. Conclusion: In order to prevent and disrupt drug abuse, appropriate measures should be taken by physicians and coaches, such as warning about the risks of doping, appropriate training, appropriate nutrition and an appropriate psychological approach.

Abstract (sommario):
Injuries contrast with the overwhelmingly positive benefits of sports participation for female athletes, with estimates of a third or more of all female athletes sustaining injury in any given season. Media headlines convey the impression that female athletes are more vulnerable to sports injuries than male athletes are. This observation led to our first purpose, which was to use evidence from the sports injury surveillance literature to examine the facts about female athlete risks of injury and compare these risks to those of male athletes. In light of Gill and Kamphoff’s (2010) observation that we largely ignore or underrepresent female experiences in the sport and exercise psychology literature, our second purpose was to highlight examples of the psychological, behavioral, and social aspects of female athletes’ injury experiences, and provide comparisons to male experiences within this realm of sports medicine psychology. These evidence-based observations guide our concluding recommendations for injury reporting, prevention, and rehabilitation roles of those in the media and sports professions.
