Abstract (sommario):
Entering the European Union, the Republic of Croatia took over the INSPIRE directive called the National Spatial Data Infrastructure. A large amount of spatial data can be found through the National Spatial Data Infrastructure Geoportal. Data are available for viewing or downloading via different services, such as a web mapping service or web feature service. Although different spatial data are available, it is hard to access useful information through Geoportal. The aim of this paper is to prepare a spatial database which will gather different spatial data related to environmental engineering and present different queries and the visualization of the results. The main data used are related to protected areas in the Republic of Croatia, which register the environmental pollutants, air quality, exploitation and research fields of mineral resources, waste management, water management, and so forth. Alongside the national spatial data, the Copernicus Land monitoring service EU-DEM, the digital elevation model, is used. The classification of Sentinel-2 MSI data is used to provide land cover. Remotely sensed data are used in queries where aspect, slope, and land cover affect the results. Two predefined SQL queries are discussed. The first query discusses the danger of landslides, and the second query discusses threats from illegal landfills and the effect that they have on the environment. Predefined SQL queries enable users to quickly access needed data, even when the original data is updated. All data, databases, visualization, and results are presented in open access software.

Abstract (sommario):
Today it is very difficult to evaluate the quality of spatial databases, mainly for the heterogeneity of input data. We define a fuzzy process for evaluating the reliability of a spatial database: the area of study is partitioned in isoreliable zones, defined as homogeneous zones in terms of data quality and environmental characteristics. We model a spatial database in thematic datasets; each thematic dataset concerns a specific spatial domain and includes a set of layers. We estimate the reliability of each thematic dataset and therefore the overall reliability of the spatial database. We have tested this method on the spatial dataset of the town of Cava de' Tirreni (Italy).

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This study aimed to develop a spatial database design on transportation safety system. Spatial databases is a fundamental factor that is very important in the utilization of GIS for transportation, so it is important that a good preparation of spatial databases. Preparation of spatial database will be effective if tailored to the needs. Factors affecting transportation safety is different from one region to another. Factors that affect transportation safety system in an area can be influenced by the transportation system infrastructure in the area. Database design for transportation safety in this study is expected to be a model of the spatial database according to the highway transportation system in a small town in Indonesia. Characteristics of the transport system in Indonesia was largely dominated by private vehicles and less of public transport. Spatial analysis has the advantage to combine data and analyze various factors based on spatial location. Spatial data that can be used to support the analysis include the basic data, thematic data path, data that can be supporting the highway transportation system. Spatial data and GIS - T can be used as an analysis tool and alternative approach to improve road transport safety.

Abstract (sommario):
Spatial databases form the foundation for a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI). For this, a spatial database should be methodically developed to accommodate its role in SDI. It is desirable to have an approach to spatial database development that considers maintenance from the early stage of database design and in a flexible way. Moreover, there is a lack of a mechanism to capture topological relations of spatial objects during the design process. This paper presents an approach that integrates maintenance of topological integrity constraints into the whole spatial database development cycle. The approach is based on the concept of Abstract Data Types. A number of topological classes have been identified and modelling primitives developed for them. Topological integrity constraints are embedded into maintenance functions associated with the topological classes. A semi-automatic transformation process has been developed following the principles of Model Driven Architecture to simplify the design process.

Abstract (sommario):
The work is devoted to the development of spatial databases for the assessment of agricultural land. The geodatabase is aimed at geoinformation support of assessment, agroecological typing (groups, types of land) of agricultural lands, development of adaptive-landscape farming systems. The paper presents the structure of the database of regional and local levels. Three different ways of user interaction with the AgroGIS database are proposed. For practical implementation, it is proposed to use the object-functional approach to database development, based on the use of cloud data storage technology in the DBMS SQlite. Background. Geoinformation support of agronomic geoinformation systems (AgroGIS) is aimed at assessing natural-territorial conditions and environmental factors in agrolandscapes, development of adaptive landscape farming systems. AgroGIS geodatabases serve to store, analyze and present spatial information on agricultural land. As shown by an analysis of literary sources, the term “geodatabase” was formed more than twenty years ago. At the same time different geodatabases are known: archaeological, cartographic, soil and others. They differ in the object of research, structure and content, as well as the way of data organization. This indicates the relevance of the topics of the present research. Purpose. The purpose of the work is to develop the structure and content of the geodatabase agronomic GIS. Materials and methods. The object-functional approach to database development, which is supported by object-oriented database management systems (DBMS) and classical relational DBMS, is used. The essence of this approach is to implement functional tasks taking into account the needs of the user. Results. The main components of geodatabase in the form of separate sets of spatial classes (Climate, Relief, Soil, Vegetation, Hydrography, Agrolandscape) are proposed. At the same time the paper shows the need for practical implementation of agronomic geoinformation geodatabases from several aspects. Conclusion. In the development of spatial databases of agronomic GIS the most important feature is the ability to constantly update information in the form of temporal component. Practical implementation of temporal geodatabases is possible with the use of non-relational database management systems, as well as methods of processing big data (Big Data).

Abstract (sommario):
Outsourcing spatial database to a third party is becoming a common practice for more and more individuals and companies to save the cost of managing and maintaining database, where a data owner delegates its spatial data management tasks to a third party and grants it to provide query services. However, the third party is not full trusted. Thus, authentication information should be provided to the client for query authentication. In this paper, we introduce an efficient space authenticated data structure, called Verifiable Similarity Indexing tree (VSS-tree), to support authenticated spatial query. We build VSS-tree based on SS-tree which employs bounding sphere rather than bounding rectangle for region shape and extend it with authentication information. Based on VSS-tree, the third party finds query results and builds their corresponding verification object. The client performs query authentication using the verification object and the public key published. Finally, we evaluate the performance and validity of our algorithms, the experiment results show that VSS-tree can efficiently support spatial query and have better performance than Merkle R tree (MR-tree)

Topology and its various benefits and functionality are fairly well understood within the context of 2D Geographical Information Systems. We summarize the principle of common 2D topology and the implementation of GIS databases. Existing topological frameworks and data models as a staring point to guide the review process, three key areas were studied for the purposes of requirements identification, namely existing 2D topological systems. However requirements in 3D have yet to be defined, with factors such as lack of familiarity with the potential of such functionality of 3D systems impeding this process. In this paper, we identify and review the requirements for topology in three-dimensional (3D) applications. Requirements for topological functionality in 3D were then grouped and categorized.

Abstract (sommario):
In this paper, the authors combine the methods of probabilistic databases, GIS (Geographical Information Systems) and business process modelling to evaluate the agricultural activities. The authors provide a technique to evaluate the risk of agricultural activities among the hydrological objects (lakes, rivers, etc.) and agricultural plots. The spatial relation is an important information needed in the evaluation processes. This type of information is usually uncertain and the available data are often not precise. Consequently, probabilistic database is used to capture the uncertainty of the spatial objects in order to estimate the level of possible water and soil contamination (by agricultural inputs). Probabilistic spatial relations provide information on the layout of spatial objects. Probabilities are stored in a probabilistic database. Probabilistic database is a finite number of complete databases that are assigned with a set of probabilities. Probabilistic data-aware business processes integrate the theory of probabilistic database with business processes modeling methods. This new formalism of business processes helps the experts to model the environmental risks in terms of probabilistic spatial relations.

Abstract (sommario):
Dynamic segmentation is viewed as one of the most important functions of geographic information systems for transportation applications. Although the road network and associated events (e.g., pavement material, traffic volume, incidents) can be referenced to both space and time, the spatial and temporal dimensions have not been well integrated. Modeling space-varying, time-varying, and space-time-varying events in dynamic segmentation by using an object database approach that is in line with the Object Database Management Group standard is explored. A mechanism called parametric polymorphism is used to lift conventional data types to spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal types for maintaining knowledge about events that could change spatially, temporally, and spatiotemporally along linear features. An associated object query language, DS-OQL, was designed to support the formulation of spatial, temporal, and spatiotemporal queries on the road and event information.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This paper deals with uncertainty modeling in spatial object-relational databases by the use of Structured Query Language (SQL). The fundamental principles of uncertainty modeling by fuzzy sets are applied in the area of geographic information systems (GIS) and spatial databases. A spatial database system includes types of spatial data and implements the spatial extension of SQL. The implementation of the principles of fuzzy logic to spatial databases brings an opportunity for the efficient processing of uncertain data, which is important, especially when using various data sources (e.g., multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) on the basis of heterogeneous spatial data resources). The modeling and data processing of uncertainties are presented in relation to the applicable International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards (standards of the series 19100 Geographic information) and the relevant specifications of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The fuzzy spatial query approach is applied and tested on a case study with a fundamental database for GIS in Slovakia.

Abstract (sommario):
Join operation is one of the most used operations in database management systems, including spatial databases. Hence, spatial join queries are very important in spatial database processing. There are many different kinds of spatial join queries, due to the richness in spatial data types and spatial operations. Therefore, it is important to understand the full spectrum of spatial join queries. The aim of this paper is to give a classification to one family type of spatial join, called the Distance-based Spatial Join. In the taxonomy, the authors divide this spatial join into three categories: (i) AllRange, (ii) All-kNN, and (iii) All-RNN. Each of these categories has its own variants. In this taxonomy, the authors confine the discussions to join queries on fixed points.

Abstract (sommario):
A Bayesian method with spatial constraint is proposed for vessel segmentation in retinal images. The proposed model makes the assumption that the posterior probability of each pixel is dependent on posterior probabilities of their neighboring pixels. An energy function is defined for the proposed model. By applying the modified level set approach to minimize the proposed energy function, we can identify blood vessels in the retinal image. Evaluation of the developed method is done on real retinal images which are from the DRIVE database and the STARE database. The performance is analyzed and compared to other published methods using a number of measures which include accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. The proposed approach is proved to be effective on these two databases. The average accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity on the DRIVE database are 0.9529, 0.7513, and 0.9792, respectively, and for the STARE database 0.9476, 0.7147, and 0.9735, respectively. The performance is better than that of other vessel segmentation methods.

"Spatial information mining", or learning revelation in spatial database, alludes to the illustration out of concealed information, spatial relations, or different examples that are not unequivocally put away in spatial databases. To get to the spatial database alongside the catchphrase another kind of inquiry called spatial watchword question is utilized. A spatial watchword inquiry get client area and client given catchphrases as contentions and gives web protests that are spatially and literarily material to these information. The current answers for such inquiries depend on IR2-tree that has a couple of inadequacies as space utilization and event of false hit is extremely huge when the question of the last outcome is far from the inquiry point .To beat this issue a novel file structure called Spatial Inverted file is proposed. Presently a-days use of portable is expanding enormously .In the versatile system an intermediary is set between base station and Location Based Server (LBS).This intermediary utilizes the Spatial modified file procedure to answer the SK inquiry by utilizing spatial data from the base station and printed data from the client question. The outcome from the SI record is given to two file structure in the intermediary called EVR Tree and Grid list. The Estimated Valid Region (EVR) for the present area of the client and required spatial articles are produced and come back to the client. On the off chance that the EVR is absent in the two file structure of intermediary it offer question to LBS. In the event that the client given inquiry is miss written or miss spelled it can be oversee by SI record utilizing n gram/2L Approximation file.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> In urban and metropolitan context, Traffic Operations Centres (TOCs) use technologies as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to tackling urban mobility issue. Usually in TOCs, various isolated systems are maintained in parallel (stored in different databases), and data comes from different sources: a challenge in transport management is to transfer disparate data into a unified data management system that preserves access to legacy data, allowing multi-thematic analysis. This need of integration between systems is important for a wise policy decision.</p><p>This study aims to design a comprehensive and general spatial data model that could allow the integration and visualization of traffic components and measures. The activity is focused on the case study of 5T Agency in Turin, a TOC that manages traffic regulation, public transit fleets and information to users, in the metropolitan area of Turin and Piedmont Region.</p><p>The idea is not to replace the existing implemented and efficient system, but to built-up on these systems a GIS that overpass the different software and DBMS platforms and that can demonstrate how a spatial and horizontal vision in tackling urban mobility issues may be useful for policy and strategies decisions. The modelling activity take reference from a review of transport standards and results in database general schema, which can be reused by other TOCs in their activities, helping the integration and coordination between different TOCs. The final output of the research is an ArcGIS geodatabase, which enable the customised representation of private traffic elements and measures.</p>

The database concept is the center of a Geographic Information System and is a simple system that can only produce output in the form of geographical and spatial data from a region. The Geographical Information System Database (GIS) is formed having a spatial data topology structure, and can be used as basic data. The database is formed automatically from the results of surveys and measurements and the results of digitization of high-resolution image maps so that spatial data information can be obtained, to produce a new Geographic Information System database as a result of the merging of survey data and the results of digitization of image maps.

Abstract (sommario):
The use of geographic data has become a widespread concern, mainly within applications related to spatial planning and spatial decision-making. Therefore, changing environments require databases adaptable to changes that occur over time. Thus, supporting geographic information evolution is essential and extremely important within changing environments. The evolution is expressed in the geographic database by series of update operations that should maintain its consistency. This paper proposes an approach for updating geographic databases, based on update operators and algorithms of constraints integrity checking. Temporal versioning is used to keep the track of changes. Every version presents the state of the geographic database at a given time. Algorithms of constraints integrity checking allow maintaining the database consistency upon its update. To implement our approach and assist users in the evolution process, the GeoVersioning tool is developed and tested on a sample geographic database.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The demography database system should be very useful for various purposes in resolving socio-economic problems, such as the distribution of charity, especially for people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. But unfortunately, the demography database system in Indonesia still has many problems. Things to consider are that there is no integration between databases at the central and local governments, and there is no synchronization of data between institutions. The next problem is that our demographic database system is not based on spatial information. Therefore, we need a demography database system that is integrated with the spatial information system. This study aims to integrate a demographic database system into a spatial information system. The demographic database system in principle always refers to certain administrative units, such as villages, subdistricts, districts/cities, and the state. The administrative unit can contain information about a geographic perspective, such as elevation, position, topography, etc. As a result, in addition to demographic policies, geographic perspectives can be considered, and the identification of asynchronous data between central and local governments becomes easier. In addition, there are impacts, which need to be considered in transforming tabular to spatial data, such as; scale factor, generalization, and classification.

Abstract (sommario):
In today's world, the necessity for spatial data for various organizations is becoming so crucial that many of these organizations have begun to produce spatial data for that purpose. In some circumstances, the need to obtain real time integrated data requires sustainable mechanism to process real-time integration. Case in point, the disater management situations that requires obtaining real time data from various sources of information. One of the problematic challenges in the mentioned situation is the high degree of heterogeneity between different organizations data. To solve this issue, we introduce an ontology-based method to provide sharing and integration capabilities for the existing databases. In addition to resolving semantic heterogeneity, better access to information is also provided by our proposed method. Our approach is consisted of three steps, the first step is identification of the object in a relational database, then the semantic relationships between them are modelled and subsequently, the ontology of each database is created. In a second step, the relative ontology will be inserted into the database and the relationship of each class of ontology will be inserted into the new created column in database tables. Last step is consisted of a platform based on service-oriented architecture, which allows integration of data. This is done by using the concept of ontology mapping. The proposed approach, in addition to being fast and low cost, makes the process of data integration easy and the data remains unchanged and thus takes advantage of the legacy application provided.

Abstract (sommario):
Recently, the trend of developing digital twins for smart cities has driven a need for managing large-scale multidimensional, dynamic, and scene-oriented spatial data. Due to larger data scale and more complex data structure, queries over such data are more complicated and expensive than those on traditional spatial data, which poses challenges to the system efficiency and deployment costs. The existing spatial databases have limited support in both data types and operations. Therefore, a new-generation spatial database with excellent performance and effective deployment costs is needed. This paper presents Ganos, a cloud-native spatial database engine of PolarDB for PostgreSQL that is developed by Alibaba Cloud, to efficiently manage multidimensional, dynamic, and scene-oriented spatial data. Ganos models 3D space and spatio-temporal dynamics as first-class citizens. Also, it natively supports spatial/spatio-temporal data types such as 3DMesh, Trajectory, Raster, PointCloud, etc. Besides, it implements a novel extended-storage mechanism that utilizes cloud-native object storage to reduce storage costs and enable uniform operations on the data in different storages. To facilitate processing "big" queries, Ganos extends PolarDB and provides spatial-oriented multi-level parallelism under the architecture of decoupling compute from storage in cloud-native databases, which achieves elasticity and excellent query performance. We demonstrate Ganos in real-life case studies. The performance of Ganos is evaluated using real datasets, and promising results are obtained. Finally, based on the extensive deployment and application of Ganos, the lessons learned from our customers and the expectations of modern cloud applications for new spatial database features are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Organizations have come to realize that storing their databases in the Cloud rather than in-house data centers is cheaper and more flexible. However, companies are still concerned about the privacy and the security of their data. Encrypting the whole database before uploading it to the Cloud solves the security issue. But querying the database requires downloading and decrypting the entire dataset, which is impractical. This paper proposes a new scheme for protecting the privacy and integrity of spatial data stored in the Cloud while being able to execute range queries efficiently. Data objects are encrypted and sorted using Z-order space-filling curve. An index is built on top of the encrypted data to be utilized by the Service Provider to identify and retrieve a superset of data objects that contains the answers to the query. Many simulation experiments have been carried out to measure the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of the redundancy in data retrieved. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the most recent scheme by Kim et al. in terms of data redundancy.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper introduces a method for human action recognition based on optical flow motion features extraction. Automatic spatial and temporal alignments are combined together in order to encourage the temporal consistence on each action by an enhanced dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm. At the same time, a fast method based on coarse-to-fine DTW constraint to improve computational performance without reducing accuracy is induced. The main contributions of this study include (1) a joint spatial-temporal multiresolution optical flow computation method which can keep encoding more informative motion information than recent proposed methods, (2) an enhanced DTW method to improve temporal consistence of motion in action recognition, and (3) coarse-to-fine DTW constraint on motion features pyramids to speed up recognition performance. Using this method, high recognition accuracy is achieved on different action databases like Weizmann database and KTH database.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents an approach to build a spatial database for indoor environments. It will be presented the main requirements for the implementation of an object-relational database for the representation and analysis of indoor environments, which considers the solutions for both type of representations, floor plan and schematic map. These representations consider the high number of information found in an indoor environment and the fact that they are disposed in different floors of the structure. The relationship between objects and their attributes defines the links and restrictions between them. Hence, the model should describe the entities and their interrelationships, as well as the attributes of the elements and their characteristics. After the database was developed, it was implemented an algorithm that calculates routes between points in the indoor environment, considering not only the shortest distance but also the floor change. The model was tested by Antunes and Delazari (2019) using an application and some interviews with users to evaluate the elements included in the database considering a navigating task. Some results pointed out the need to insert new information in the database regarding physical characteristics (color, material) of elements found in the indoor environment to assist users during orientation and navigation tasks. Moreover, it is necessary to include elements from the outdoor environment used as reference points in the cartographic representation.
