Abstract (sommario):
In the last decades, area studies have been subject to substantial criticism by the most mainstream social sciences. Area specialists are perceived as lacking the knowledge of modern research methodology and rather following the interests of humanities than social sciences. At the same time, studying individual regions and countries certainly requires the accumulation of specific knowledge, which would most likely be lost without area studies research. This paper discusses the main directions of criticism of area studies and possible suggestions towards modernization of this research tradition. The criticism towards area studies can be linked to three issues: the excessive dominance of the humanities in most area studies communities; insufficient consideration of modern theoretical and empirical approaches; and implicit normativity, i.e., the substitution of scientific analysis with value assertions. The modernization of area studies as an academic field is related to the application of alternative approaches to regional and country studies within three research projects: Comparative Area Studies (CAS), Transregional Studies, and regional specialization within individual disciplines

Abstract (sommario):
Curriculum 2013 requires teachers to be more creative in compiling teaching materials which are innovative, varied, exciting, contextual, and in accordance with learners needs to achieve learning objectives. This research aims at developing IPS materials for VII graders of Junior High School (SMP) based on ethnophotography. This study used Research and Development design (R & D). The results were analyzed by qualitative analysis technique. The results show that most social studies (IPS) teachers have not yet developed the IPS materials for VII graders of SMP which is relevant to the environmental conditions. The ethnophotography was used to determine the development of IPS materials by photographing/taking pictures of each regional potential to be used as supporting material in IPS materials. Through ethnophotography, the students would be more interested and easier to learn the material, and at the same time, they learn a variety of regions potential. In conclusion, the IPS material based on ethnophotography can be used as one of the ways to develop teaching materials to get more effective and efficient learning because students can easily understand the material through the photographs displayed in the teaching materials because the photographs show a variety of things around it.

Abstract (sommario):
Exploring the ‘globalization’ of the social sciences, this article first presents an historical interpretation of how transnational exchange in the social sciences has evolved. Earlier forms of international circulation are distinct from the more global arrangements that have emerged since the late twentieth century. Considering this globalizing field in more detail, it is argued that its predominant characteristic is a core–periphery structure, with a duopolistic Euro-American core, multiple semi-peripheries and a wide range of peripheries. Focusing on the global level, much of the existing research, however, has neglected the emergence of transnational regional structures. The formation of a transnational European field of social science is taken as an example of this process of transnational regionalization. The social sciences worldwide can thus be seen as a four-level structure. In addition to the local and national level, transnational regional as well as global structures have gained increasing importance and a better understanding of ‘globalization’ requires more precise studies of both levels, in their own right as well as in their evolving interconnectedness.

Abstract (sommario):
After briefly surveying three generations of comparative sociologists, interdisciplinary regional and trans-regional studies are shown to complement the work of the third generation of comparative sociologists on civilizational analysis and multiple modernities. Drawing examples from the interdisciplinary Persianate studies, promoted by the Association for the Study of Persianate Societies in the last two decades, and by other recent interdisciplinary studies of performance and world literature as well as Caribbean regional studies, it is argued that the rise of interdisciplinary studies in social sciences and humanities may in fact redeem the unfulfilled promise that comparative sociology once offered. These recent studies constitute a significant contribution to our theoretical understanding of different patterns of socio-cultural development beyond the West, whose historical experience gave birth to modern social science disciplines, and thereby to register the historical experience of a very sizeable portion of humankind as the basis for the reconstruction of social theory in the global age.

Abstract (sommario):
In the last nineteen years we have witnessed an explosion of research on social capital in almost all the social sciences. The question addressed by this paper is the following one: what has been achieved during these years? The first part of the discussion is devoted to a review of the most influential definitions of social capital. The second point concerns the theoretical arguments on social capital's impact on regional development: how social capital affects production, incomes and other output that we normally consider to be development. Starting from these considerations, the main theoretical problems in literature will be pointed out. Finally, the last part of this work refers to the future for studies on social capital and local and regional development.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This review article examines how social science literature co-produces various imaginaries of forest-based bioeconomy transformations and pathways for reaching desired ends. Based on an analysis of 59 research articles, we find that despite a growing number of social sciences studies on the forest-based bioeconomy, much of the research tends to replicate a bioeconomy imaginary articulated in EU and national bioeconomy policies and strategies. Accordingly, the research primarily reproduces a weak approach to sustainability, which prioritize economic growth and competitiveness. Expectations are largely directed at national and regional corporate interests and forest industrial renewal, while the state has a supportive rather than restricting role. We discuss the findings against the role of social sciences, and conclude that social science scholars may adopt various strategies if interested in opening up forest-based policy debates and offer alternative imaginaries of sustainable bioeconomy transformations.

Abstract (sommario):
The regions are the product of regional studies that researchers exchange in their studies in the natural and human sciences of geography, where the applications of the regions have extended in many sciences, such as sociology, economics, soil, planning, soil, plant environmental sciences until a special science of the region emerged called (regional science). The idea of division entered the field of social planning such as planning and development regions with the aim of achieving regional justice between cities. The applications of the regions varied among researchers according to the goal and need for them. They were distinguished by the stability of the natural regions and the mobility of the human regions. To achieve this, the research relied on the descriptive and analytical methods as well as the desk survey. Received 6/10/2023 , Accepted 26/11/2023 , Published 31/12/2023

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the interaction between social and commercial ventures in a region. It achieves this objective through investigating the influence of social ventures’ entry, exit and density on the entry rate of commercial ventures. Design/methodology/approach Organizational ecology is applied for theoretical analysis and the feasible generalized least square method for empirical analysis. Findings The study, in overall, finds a diffuse competition between the populations of social and commercial ventures. The results have revealed a negative influence of social ventures’ entry and density on the entry rate of commercial ventures and a positive influence of the social ventures’ exit on commercial ventures’ entry rate in a region. Originality/value The study is one of the few in its filed that empirically studies the interaction between social and commercial ventures and the first study, which investigates it in the context of Sweden. The previous two studies, however, have only examined either the influence of social ventures entry or social venture density on the entry rate of commercial ventures. This study, however, examines the influence of both of those factors plus the influence of social venture exit on commercial venture entry. The study is also unique regarding the large-scale database it uses including all the 290 municipalities all over Sweden 1990-2014.

Abstract (sommario):
Area Studies has always been approached ambivalently since its political birth after the Second World War. Despite a quiet acknowledgement of the contribution of Area Studies in the production of knowledge from the local lens to correct the ‘universal’ Western perspective of the knowledge produced by social sciences, questions are raised about its very existence in the era of globalization. This paper addresses the problematic of the marginalized position of Area Studies. The discussion will include; i) articles by Arif Dirlik, Ravi Arvind Palat, Tessa Morris-Suzuki to address the problematic of marginalization of Area Studies; ii) the articles by Edward Said, Aijaz Ahmad, Dispeh Chakrabrty, Vivek Chibber, and Kuan-Hsing Chen to assess the limits of Postcolonialism and Marxism in deconstructing Eurocentrism of Area Studies; and finally iii) the scholarly debates by Asef Bayat, David Ludden, Neil Smith, Naoki Sakai, Christian von Soest, and Alexander Stroh to discuss the utility of comparative method as a bridge to ford the rifts between Area Studies and social sciences. It is necessary to broaden the scope of Area Studies by engaging in cross-regional as much as cross-disciplinary research with the social sciences and other disciplines which are trying to meet the demands of transnational pressures generated by the global capitalism. The selected scholars highlight the need to revise Area Studies by proposing new approaches to free it from Eurocentrism and to make it more interdisciplinary to meet the demands of globalization.

Abstract (sommario):
The choice of language for research publication is a strategic decision that balances such issues as efficient communication of results to the target audience, requirements of the grant agency, the guidelines of desirable publication venues, and promotion criteria. Previous studies have shown that social sciences and humanities (SSH) scholars tend to communicate research in at least two languages and that they increasingly publish in English in addition to national languages. Evidence for disciplinary differences in publication languages in the SSH comes primarily from bibliometric studies that span short evaluative periods. This study aims to provide a complementary perspective on the lifelong publication practices in the SSH in one national context, using data obtained in a survey carried out in Polish universities. Its main objective is to assess the degree of multilingualism of individual disciplines and academic seniority groups, establish which languages are used, and set the results in the context of country- and institution-level science policies. The results show that while all the disciplines are oriented toward internationalization, they have developed distinctive practices reflecting their engagement with locally relevant topics, involvement with projects on the regional or supranational level, and participation in global research. They also show that by prioritizing publication in top-tier international venues across the board, current science policies do not adequately consider disciplinary practices and target audiences.

Abstract (sommario):
Regional development is a field of research and a discipline of study that transcends several fields of social sciences, and can be studied by students in the fields of administrative, political, economic, social and humanistic sciences and others that include this subject in the curriculum. Regional development is also an attribute of public administration in all Member States of the European Union, as well as outside Europe, with ministries dedicated to implementing balanced regional development policies. Therefore, the book written by the author Daniela Antonescu, “Dezvoltarea regională. Teorie și practică” [Regional development. theory and practice], published by Lumen Publishing House in Iași, Romania, in 2019, who I consider a great specialist in this field (as she is the organizer of a conference on this topic, that attracts specialists from Romania and abroad), addresses a broad public of readers: both researchers and teachers concerned with development issues, as well as civil servants, members of national governments or parliaments, MEPs, members of other international fora, concerned with regional development, which includes not only the region as a territory but also subdivisions at local level: county, municipality / city, commune, village, on a case-by-case basis.

Abstract (sommario):
In this article an alternative thinking and methodological approach for the study of regional integration is proposed, addressing the limitations of classical regional integration theories and the new regionalism approach. A ‘dominatarian’ theory is introduced as an alternative analytical framework that exposes meanings attributed to a social force called ‘personness’, and how regions could be (re)constructed through this anthropocentric lens. The East African Community (EAC, henceforth referred to as the Jumuiya) is chosen as a tour de force for regional integration theories. The triadal analysis of the three main components of classical regional integration theories—economy, institutions and politics—reveals the deficiency of these frameworks in explaining the role of ‘personness’ in regional integration processes, especially within the African context. Consequently, the phrase ‘contextual misfitability’ has been coined to describe this condition. The article concludes with a reflection on how meanings are created and re-created from the Darwinian ontologies of natural sciences into social science regimes and its application to regional integration studies.

Abstract (sommario):
The article demonstrates in what way the popularity of the problems of regional studies influences the development of learning (including the history of education), local societies and, paradoxically, the evolution of global history. Additionally, the author of the article gives reasons why the regional studies are becoming more and more popular. One of the reasons, apart from globalization phenomena and the uniting of Europe, is the methodological “revolution” in the field of social sciences, which has significantly altered the research perspective of historians.

Levels of Analysis is related to the explaining of causes of phenomenon (Buzan, 1995). The coming to the fore of levels of analysis in international relations was the result of the behavioral movement during the 1950s that was attempting to apply methodology of natural sciences in social sciences. Before that, traditional approaches were dominant, and they were more oriented towards history and law. The works of Kenneth N. Waltz, Morton A. Kaplan, and J. David Singer have had major roles in bringing levels of analysis into international relations (Buzan, 1995). Since then, the works of Barry Buzan and Ole Wæver have added the level of regional analysis to International Relations studies. This article reviews the three main levels of analysis and also explains the regional level of analysis in international relations.

The article considers the possibility of implementing an integrated approach to the representation of a toponym in reference systems and databases, taking its linguistic and cultural specifics into account. It is shown that their informative field contains both linguistic and encyclopedic information, it is revealed that various information is encoded in the basics of toponyms: historical, geographical, social, cultural, ethnographic, linguistic aspects. Based on the material of the toponyms of Smolensk region, which are included in the electronic information system "Toponymy of Russia", created at the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the implementation of an integrated approach in the presentation of a meaningful plan of toponyms is demonstrated. Cultural codes, which are contained in toponyms and reflect the national and cultural specifics of geographical names are characterized: anthropomorphic, faunal, spiritual, industrial (landscape), topomorphic (hydromorphic), emotional and characteristic, and cases of combining different codes in one toponym are described. Special attention is paid to cultural codes reflected in toponymic units with the names of geographical objects of the Russian-Belarusian border area. As a result of the conducted research, it is proposed to include information about cultural codes in the description of toponyms and present it as a separate parameter in the information system "Toponymy of Russia", which will allow users to expand their knowledge about the nominated object and its national and cultural specifics.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Religious communities can encourage generosity toward strangers. In these communities, such norms are high among religious individuals and nonadherents. It remains unclear how these norms inform policy. Recent refugee crises provide critical tests of how charitable values translate into political preferences. As Europe experiences turmoil over the acceptance and integration of Muslim refugees, I ask how religion affects preferences regarding refugee admissions. I find that marginalized religious groups among new immigrants offer the highest levels of support for admitting refugees. Catholics are more restrictive than religious nones regarding policy preferences, while there are mixed results comparing nones to other Christian denominations. However, for Catholics and most other Christians, generous policy preferences increase with higher rates of religious service attendance. Respondents offer more generous policy preferences in regions with higher rates of Protestant and Catholic affiliation and in nations with higher Protestant affiliation. Restrictive preferences increase with regional and national percent unaffiliated.

The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the existing studies of social capital in the framework of regional innovation systems and attempt to answer the question of whether any new insights or methodological shifts have occurred in the last few (seven or so) years. The reconstruction of empirical findings reveals a rather ambiguous picture. It seems that only radical modification of research design and methods can give new impetus and allow us to gain a deeper understanding of the role of social capital and/or its dimensions in (regional) innovation processes. Regarding the existing body of knowledge, the meta-analytical approach is appropriate in order to discern the most relevant, grounded and comparable theses and data. In the case of new research, more attention should be paid to the ethnographic approach and to triangulation.

Abstract (sommario):
Environmental and human features, and the interactions between them, in a key research region of the island of Borneo, are here all consistently regarded as continuums. Integrated studies, combining the biological and social sciences, of these continuums should provide an alternative view of the interactions between environment and society and, through a reconstruction of the eco-cultural history of this region, allow new insights into the history of Southeast Asia.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose Food plays an important role in every culture around the world. Recently, cuisine preference analysis has become a popular research topic. However, most of these studies are conducted through questionnaires and interviews, which are highly limited by the time, cost and scope of data collection, especially when facing large-scale survey studies. Some researchers have, therefore, attempted to mine cuisine preferences based on online recipes, while this approach cannot reveal food preference from people’s perspective. Today, people are sharing what they eat on social media platforms by posting reviews about the meal, reciting the names of appetizers or entrees, and photographing as well. Such large amount of user-generated contents (UGC) has potential to indicate people’s preferences over different cuisines. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to explore Chinese cuisine preferences among online users of social media. Design/methodology/approach Based on both UGC and online recipes, the authors first investigated the cuisine preference distribution in different regions. Then, dish preference similarity between regions was calculated and few geographic factors were identified, which might lead to such regional similarity appeared in our study. By applying hierarchical clustering, the authors clustered regions based on dish preference and ingredient usage separately. Findings Experimental results show that, among 20 types of traditional Chinese cuisines, Sichuan cuisine is most favored across all regions in China. Geographical proximity is the more closely related to differences of regional dish preference than climate proximity. Originality/value Different from traditional definitions of regions to which cuisine belong, the authors found new association between region and cuisine based on dish preference from social media and ingredient usage of dishes. Using social media may overcome problems with using traditional questionnaires, such as high costs and long cycle for questionnaire design and answering.

Abstract (sommario):
The article provides an overview of the areas of Russian Arabic Studies except linguistics. Since Eastern regional studies are inconceivable without knowledge of the language and culture of the regions under study, the analysis of studies in the modern Arab world is preceded by a review of key works that explained the specifics of the literature and philosophy of the Arab world. Thus, the first section examines key figures in the study of classical and modern literature of the Arab countries, the medieval history of this region. The second section is devoted to the philosophyof the Arab East. The largest third section is focused on the study of economic, social, and political processes in Arab countries in the XX century. It is indicated that Russian scientists, despite the forced domination of Marxist-Leninist dogmas in the social sciences, managed to create numerous scientific works that are among the distinguished Arabic Studies worldwide. The final section contains an analysis of contemporary studies of the Arab world in Russia. The article highlights key achievements of the scientific schools of Russian Arabic Studies providing information on more than two hundred monographs.

Abstract (sommario):
The article is devoted to the development of a social security model in the region, representing a comprehensive vision of various aspects of interaction between man and society on the way to preserve social security. The aim of the study is an attempt to synthesize the provisions of various scientific and socio-philosophical concepts of social security with the provisions of regional studies into a single systemic model of social security in the region. The implementation of this goal is carried out by the authors using a methodology based on a civilizational approach, which asserts the uniqueness of each of the regions, a systematic approach that reveals the social system of a region as a multi-core phenomenon in which various social levels are distinguished; a structuralist approach, which proves that social conditions for safe life depend on the development and organization of the social environment; semiotic approach aimed at analyzing the region as a spatial, locally distinguished social system formed around a complex of regional values; an instrumental approach that pays attention to the impact of mechanisms leading to the regional interests’ mobilization. The novelty of the presented research is associated with a model development of social security of the region based on the principle of complementarity of philosophical concepts of social security and the provisions of regional studies. The result of the study is a statement of the impossibility of covering this phenomenon in models developed in individual sciences that form scattered images of the social security of the region, but do not cover the entirety of this phenomenon. The second result of the study is the formation of a social security model of the region, which allows taking into account civilizational, systemic, structural, value, instrumentally constructed parameters. The third result is the proof of the possibility of building a social security system based on values, the mobilization of which takes place within the framework of a dialogue between external and intra-regional social discourses

We synthesised the results using an iterative narrative approach.Results2442 unique titles and abstracts met screening criteria. 13 full texts met full inclusion and quality appraisal criteria. Study designs, intervention characteristics and outcome measures were heterogeneous. Nine studies used mixed methods, two used qualitative methods and two used quantitative methods. Training participants included nurses, family practice residents, specialised practitioners and providers serving specific subpopulations. Theoretical frameworks and pedagogical approaches varied across programmes, which contained overlapping course content. Study outcomes were primarily learner oriented and focused on self-reported changes in knowledge, awareness, beliefs, attitudes and/or the confidence and skills to provide care for Indigenous peoples. The involvement of local Indigenous communities in the development, implementation and evaluation of the interventions was limited.ConclusionThere is limited evidence regarding the effectiveness of specific content and approaches to cultural safety training on improving non-Indigenous health professionals’ knowledge of and skills to deliver quality, non-discriminatory care to Indigenous patients. Future research is needed that advances the methodological rigour of training evaluations, is focused on observed clinical outcomes, and is better aligned to local, regional,and/or national Indigenous priorities and needs.

Abstract (sommario):
Objectives This study aims to reconstruct the elementary social studies curriculum using the simulated environment platform, implement it in 3rd and 4th grades’ regional learning, and confirm its effect on elementary school students’ competency. Methods Simulated environment-assisted regional learning curriculum was developed following the design thinking model for a total of 31 students, and they were asked to complete surveys and interviews concerning their digital citizenship and self-directed learning. The regional learning class consists of five stages; Understanding the region, Setting the goal, Preparation, Using the simulated environment, and Applying. Results As a result of the study, the possibility of classes using the simulated 3D environment for elementary school students was confirmed through the five-step procedure, and it was found that it was appropriate and effective to use the simulated environment to reconstruct social studies regional classes. In addition, as a result of analyzing the difference in students' competency changes, digital citizenship scores were significantly improved, and in particular, there was a significant difference in social responsibility and digital social understanding. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in self-directed learning, but there was a difference in learning independence among the sub-items. As a result of qualitative analysis, the attitude of students to recognize and use the simulated environment for an educational purpose has changed positively, and students have actively participated in class activities such as setting goals on their own. Conclusions This suggests regional learning classes using the simulated environment plays an important role in developing the competencies necessary for students to live in the future society. In addition, it suggests that elementary school students can also become the leading subject of virtual space production rather than simply experiencing the platform. Based on this study, it is expected that classes using simulated environment can be applied at various school levels.

Abstract (sommario):
The social components baseddevelopment of differentterritories constitutes a focal point for studies in geographical economics as well as regional sciences. The latter focuses on studying social and economic phenomena in their geographical dimensions. Human presence in a specific geographical space is not “neutral”, but rather a socio-economic asset with development implications. This paper aims to clarify the role of social dynamics through different social organization in economic development process. Through understanding the results of the continuous interaction between the components of the social space, the study comes to realize its importance within the development process related to the region’s socio-economic variables. When it comes to rural areas development, as regions with economic and human specificities, many social initiatives may emerge with the aim of working “collectively” to provide support for activities and allocate territories resources. By presenting three experiences of development associations, it became clear that community initiatives are necessary in rural areas in order to respond to local needs using resources from inside or outside the region. This also requires the establishment of a regional governance system to improve interaction between social and economic actors

Abstract (sommario):
The article considers historical aspects of the formation and implementation of the sociological education models in Russia. The model developed by N.I. Kareev and M.M. Kovalevsky at the end of the 19th century was to teach sociology to students of all areas of university training. In 1901, sociologization of social sciences started at the Russian School of Higher Social Sciences in Paris, and in 1908 it was improved at the departments of sociology of the V.M. Bekhterev Psychoneurological Institute and A.L. Shanyavsky Moscow City People’s University. In 1918, P.A. Sorokin developed a professional model for training sociologists; until 1921 this model was implemented at the faculties of social sciences of the Moscow, Petrograd and Yaroslavl State Universities. In 1922, the implementation of both models was suspended due to the introduction of centralized plans to teach the basics of MarxismLeninism to students. The creative potential of two historical models became in demand during perestroika , in the late 1980s - early 1990s, and new versions of the educational and professional models were introduced in the higher education in favorable conditions for the reinstitutionalization of sociology. However, since 2010, there has been a gradual reduction in the number of sociological departments and faculties in Bachelor’s-Master’s programs. Today educational and professional models are unevenly represented in the Russian higher education; their implementation remains questionable due to the idea of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education to return to training students on the basis of the enlarged groups of specialties, i.e. sociology curriculum will have to be coordinated with curricula for regional studies, international relations, tourism and political science.

Abstract (sommario):
Globally, governance studies have been an emerging paradigm of research and scholarly debate in social sciences. This paper takes this debate as an entry point and aims to analyze its metaphysical construction in terms of ontology, epistemology, and methodology. Data and materials used in the paper are based on the sources of secondary literature. The findings reveal that the political construction of governance is now becoming complex in contemporary societies and it has then adjoined with social, economic, and regional issues in particular. The paper concludes that governance is a contested notion that is moving around different concepts, theories, methodologies, and paradigms. The paper, therefore, is expected to contribute to the governance study in particular along with different disciplines of social science research in general.

Abstract (sommario):
The article analyzes the consequences of the reductionist application of criteria typical of the natural, mainly laboratory sciences, in the process of evaluation of the results of the work of researchers and institutions in all the other scientific disciplines, mainly in the field of social sciences and humanities, in the Republic of Serbia. As an example of this trend, the analysis focuses on the absurd criteria, currently in effect, for the conducting of PhD studies in the field of social sciences and humanities, which exclude the scientific books written by lecturers and only value articles published in journals. After this, the ignorance, misapprehensions, logical fallacies and interests which might be behind these criteria are analyzed. Special attention in the analysis is given to the reduction of global to fundamental. It is concluded that the application of the criteria currently in effect leads to the loss of interpretative sovereignty, which occurs when institutions, authors, referees and editors who are highly competent experts in regional and national issues are sacrificed in favor of foreign owners, institutions, authors, referees and editors that, by and large, possess less competence and expertise in regional and national issues, and have non-scientific interests and loyalties which don’t necessarily coincide with the interests of Serbian citizens. Finally, the consequences of the ongoing ethnocidal renunciation of scientific interpretative sovereignty are considered, especially the relinquishing of interpretations of history, identity and interconnected cultural issues and social problems to nonscientific discourses in Serbian society. Discourses which inevitably fill the empty room left in the public sphere by the ever-faster extinguishing of journals and publications in Serbian and the languages of ethnic minorities.

Abstract (sommario):
The path of the Social Sciences of religion in Latin America has been marked by qualitative studies. The stock of knowledge provided by the sociology and anthropology of religion from a qualitative perspective of research has generated the bases for the consolidation of this disciplinary orientation in the region. However, in recent decades, inquiries have multiplied from a quantitative approach, in order to measure the magnitude of the process of transformation of religious identities. The article aims to analyze comparatively the available statistical data on the religious phenomenon in Latin America, identifying its contributions and dilemmas. It focuses on religious affiliation, as the only data available and comparable at the regional level. Based on secondary sources, the surveys of the Pew Research Center and Latinobarómetro will be analyzed in the first place, and secondly, the data from de the Census and from Universities and National Research Centers. Despite the disparity in the corpus of statistical information between one country and another, the existing surveys coincide in highlighting a declining trend of Catholicism, with varying intensities according to each country, an increase in evangelical adhesions, as well as those without religious affiliation.

Abstract (sommario):
The relevance of studying the state of the social environment of a regional society is determined by the development of inclusive processes that involve the integration of people with disabilities into public life as full members of society. In this regard, it is important to understand the level of readiness of society to include disabled children due to the large-scale disability of the child population and the existing need to create special conditions for the positive socialization of children in this category. The issues of creating inclusive environmental conditions are particularly relevant in Euro-Arctic territories, which are character-ized by significant risks to health and quality of life of the population. In order to identify the level of readiness of the social environment of regional society, the article undertakes theoretical and empirical research, including an analysis of the characteristics of the social environment and approaches to determining its accessibility in domestic and foreign studies, the author’s typology of private social environments, as well as an assessment of the state of infrastructural and socio-psychological barriers for children with disabilities based on the results of the author’s online questionnaire survey of the population of the Arctic territories of the Northwestern Federal District conducted in 2022 (n=861, the sample is proportional to the number of residents of the Arctic territories). The survey revealed the existing barriers to inclusion in the studied territories, which is important in the implementation of social policy measures to create a barrier-free environment for the younger generation with persistent health disorders.

Abstract (sommario):
Building on recent directions in religion-related social and political science, our essay addresses the need for location-specific and religion-specific scientific research that might contribute directly to local and regional interreligious peacemaking. Over the past 11 years, our US–Pakistani research team has conducted research of this kind. We have developed a social scientific method for diagnosing the probable near-future behavior of religious stakeholder groups toward other groups. By integrating features of ethnography, linguistics, and semiotics, the method enables researchers to read a range of ethno-linguistic signals that appear uniquely in the discourses of religious groups. Examining the results, we observe, firstly, that our religion and location-specific science identifies features of religious group behavior that are not evident in broader social scientific studies of religion and conflict. We observe, secondly, that our science integrates constative and performative elements: it seeks facts, and it serves a purpose. We conclude that strictly constative fact-driven sciences may fail to detect certain crucial features of religious stakeholder group behavior.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: the sociology of knowledge has been a source of interest for researchers. The implication of bibliometrics as a science for the construction of scientific knowledge in the different branches of knowledge, especially the social sciences, occupies an important center. Objective: characterize the research published in Scopus referring to cultural studies.Method: a bibliometric analysis was carried out on the articles referring to cultural studies published in the period 2018 – 2023 in journals subscribed to the Scopus database. The SciVal tool was used to collect the information. Bibliometric indicators were analyzed. Descriptive statistics were applied. Results: A total of 169434 documents were found in the thematic category Cultural Studies, of which 37.9% were open access, with a trend of increasing scientific production. In the period from 2018 to 2022, researchers worldwide have contributed 3674 topics on Cultural Studies. A marked concentration of these topics was observed in the area of Social Sciences and Psychology, which is to be expected if one takes into account that these are prominent areas due to their relevance in the study of human interaction and social behavior. The most productive countries were the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, Spain and Australia. On the other hand, with respect to collaboration indicators, 70.5% of the papers had no collaboration and only 6.9% of the studies had international collaboration, which is to be expected given that cultural studies are mostly developed in a local or regional context. Conclusions: scientific production in matters of cultural studies showed gradual growth in correspondence with topics of interest to the scientific community. The focus of the studies was located on high-impact journals in correlation with the behavior of the citations received. At the same time, the collaboration was characterized by its institutional nature.
