Abstract (sommario):
We analyse the formal theory of networks and the new digital media from the perspective of mimetic theory. It is emphasised that the spatial form of the new media is characterised by distribution functions that are power laws. We show that this spatial form can be derived from the presence of mimetic desire in digital social networks. Finally, we show that network theory allows the representation of the scapegoat mechanism as it was analysed by René Girard.

Abstract (sommario):
The rapid development of digital communication technologies, the spread of Internet access to the population, the growing number of smartphones, increasing the number of social network users and other factors are the reason for the sharp growth of online operations and services in recent years. In 2020, the Covid-19 epidemic was added to this list of factors, creating an additional impetus for the growth of online business. This situation causes significant changes in the implementation of marketing activities by enterprises. Digital marketing is an important tool that allows companies to achieve their marketing goals, as well as influence a large number of people at a relatively low cost. More and more consumers are spending a significant amount of time on the Internet searching for information, products and services, communicating with other consumers about their experience and interaction with companies. The purpose of this article is to substantiate the theoretical and practical provisions of the use of digital marketing in the enterprise, to characterize the possibilities of using social networks as a tool of digital marketing, taking into account their features, limitations and advantages. The article substantiates that in modern conditions it is not enough to have only a website for the enterprise. Social networks play an increasingly important role not only in people’s lives, but also in business activities, which is an additional but important way to attract the attention of potential customers and promote trust. The most effective ways to use Facebook as a marketing tool are analyzed (direct advertising, social posting, detailed audience analysis, link sharing). It also describes a number of features that should be considered for forming a digital marketing strategy in 2021 and 2022. It is concluded that marketing in social networks can be a valuable tool that will help create an Internet brand awareness for the company, increase trust in it and develop the demand for goods and services.

Abstract (sommario):
OBJECTIVE: Social networks have become a phenomenon of modern times, and their popularity is still growing. Platforms of these media provide space for various marketing strategies, including human resources management. The paper submitted focuses on the role of social networks, namely Facebook and LinkedIn, in the job search process from the perspective of a jobseeker. The objective of the paper is to describe the ways users use these networks for this purpose, to analyse their trend, and compare the results obtained with the results presented in the Scottish study “Using social media during job search” by John A. Mowbray and Hazel Hall (2021). METHODS: The basic data source is responses obtained through an online questionnaire and interviews showing the personal experience of four respondents with the networks under review. Based on the response, a comparison with the relevant findings published in the study by Mowbray and Hall (2021) was carried out. RESULTS: The results show the growing popularity of using Facebook and LinkedIn in job seeking from the side of jobseekers and point to the fact that the type of job searched influences user behaviour. These networks enable both active and passive search, represent a comfortable environment for jobseekers, and are used for building thematic groups.CONCLUSION: The contribution of this paper is the recommended implementation of Facebook and LinkedIn in the job search and recruitment process in order to maximize the efficiency of these processes. The authors also point out the lack of adequate studies concerning users of these networks in the Czech Republic. Received: 30 August 2022 / Accepted: 6 December 2022 / Published: 5 January 2023

Abstract (sommario):
The paper analyses the digital divide created by social networks today and how it affects society. The rise of social networks has led to a new form of digital divide, so equal access to the Internet is no longer the only factor that creates a barrier to connectivity. Today, people face challenges in using social networks due to their lack of skills and the influence of social capital. Therefore, the effects of the digital divide on social networks are reflected in social relations and communication, economic progress and participation in political life. Today, the Internet users have at their disposal a multitude of conceptually different social networks, such as Twitter, Instagram or YouTube. Each of them, in accordance with its specifics, incites the deepening of the digital divide. However, social networks should not be viewed unilaterally and solely as platforms that fuel the digital divide. Social networks can really help reduce the digital divide by helping users in education, searching for jobs or information.

Abstract (sommario):
This dissertation proposes a new framework for understanding how argumentation and rhetorical action unfold in digital space. While studies in the field of rhetorical theory often address new discursive practices in spaces like Twitter and Facebook, they do not always assess the ways that the platforms themselves can influence the forms and conventions of argumentation. Similarly, the field of new media studies has attended to the structural and technical components of digital platforms, but rarely views these details through a rhetorical lens. Thus, this dissertation combines the two disciplines by approaching its thesis from two angles. First, it employs major scholarly and theoretical work from the field of rhetorical studies to determine the ways in which digital rhetorical practices align with or differ from previous ones. Second, it combines new media scholarship with close readings of digital texts, in order to examine how argumentation functions across different media platforms. This interdisciplinary approach provides unique insight into the ways that media platforms and rhetorical practices coevolve. The dissertation’s central term, “emergent arguments,” marks an epistemological shift away from the idea that an argument resides within a single text or narrative. Instead, arguments emerge from sustained and engaged interactions with digital communities, from explorations of hyperlinked trails of information, from patterns of images, words, and datasets. In digital space, knowledge is constructed communally, meaning that argumentation takes place in collaboration with a community. The project follows closely with the work of Aristotle and Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca, where argumentation is an inherently social act driven by cultural context and shared knowledge. The dissertation builds upon this premise by claiming that digital media make this sociality visible, traceable, and more dynamic than previous communicative platforms. It ultimately argues that in digital space, meaning itself is social, intertextual, and multimodal.

Abstract (sommario):
The work aims to raise hypotheses about the coexistence of different social classes in the same digital environment. The work is divided into two parts, the first part is the references, which illustrate concepts that are used in the model. This study begins with the explanation of social network, showing their evolution. Then, constructs are defined. They are: reactance, which shows that the loss of freedom has a negative influence for the consumer, demarketing which indicates that it is sometimes necessary to chose expel the consumer that you do not want, to maintain the desired one, and finally social classes, and how people relate. After this phase in-depth interviews were carried out with people who frequently use social networks, and that migrated from Orkut to Facebook in the period in which the poor began to use the internet and social networks, in special the Orkut. Once summarize the main ideas of the interviews the result was the hypothesis that people of higher classes have difficulty in beeing in the same social network of the one of the lower class. The success of social networks, especially Facebook, would be conditioned on its ability to enhance the privacy tools, creating different social networks in the same social network.

Abstract (sommario):
This study explores the professional development strategies of digital content professionals in Australian micro businesses. This thesis presents the argument that as these professionals are working in cutting edge creative fields where digital technology drives ongoing change, formal education experiences may be less important than for other professionals, and that specific types of online and face-to-face socially mediated informal learning strategies may be critical to currency. This thesis documents the findings of a broad survey of industry professionals' learning needs and development strategies, in conjunction with rich data from in-depth interviews and social network analyses.

Abstract (sommario):
With the advancement of the Internet and related technologies, many traditional crimes have made the leap to digital environments. The successes of data mining in a wide variety of disciplines have given birth to crime analysis. Traditional crime analysis is mainly focused on understanding crime patterns, however, it is unsuitable for identifying and monitoring emerging crimes. The true nature of crime remains buried in unstructured content that represents the hidden story behind the data. User feedback leaves valuable traces that can be utilised to measure the quality of various aspects of products or services and can also be used to detect, infer, or predict crimes. Like any application of data mining, the data must be of a high quality standard in order to avoid erroneous conclusions. This thesis presents a methodology and practical experiments towards discovering whether (i) user feedback can be harnessed and processed for crime intelligence, (ii) criminal associations, structures, and roles can be inferred among entities involved in a crime, and (iii) methods and standards can be developed for measuring, predicting, and comparing the quality level of social data instances and samples. It contributes to the theory, design and development of a novel framework for crime intelligence and algorithm for the estimation of social data quality by innovatively adapting the methods of monitoring water contaminants. Several experiments were conducted and the results obtained revealed the significance of this study in mining social data for crime intelligence and in developing social data quality filters and decision support systems.

Abstract (sommario):
As society continues to shift into the digital age, the relationship between social exchange and economic activity is becoming increasingly homogenous. The success of digital products are largely sustained upon the leverage of social relationships and the quasi-sharing of material items, services, and digital media. Emergence of the sharing and on-demand economies is evidence of the necessity to understand social exchange as a form of economic transaction. As such, this study attempts to conceptualize and define the concept of social wealth to understand the basis of an economic synthesis. In attempt to theoretically integrate the concept, a mixed methods design utilizing a grounded theory approach serves to set precedence for a future area of study. Data is collected through a series of focus groups before analysis through a linguistic processing program. The data reveals a proposed definition for social wealth in addition to a proposed series of socioeconomic models of how social wealth is produced, accumulated, and transferred.

Abstract (sommario):
This project is a Digital Marketing agency focused on Facebook, aimed to offer services to Mype companies in Peru, mainly dedicated to the commercialization of products and services, companies that can afford low budgets to invest in a digital channel. The choice of the target market was made through an investigation of the needs of current businessmen in the country. The companies, for the most part, are under the Mype regime, and it was reflected in the interviews, since 100% of these belonged to this regime. In addition, important data was rescued, such as the recognition of the importance of Digital Marketing for entrepreneurs. They also talked about the need of having graphic designer services and community managers that would work with a strategy that provides real results, finally, they hoped they would not have to spend excessive budgets, since this means carrying out large sums of money that they cannot afford. There was a problem of not finding professionals responsible for implementing a digital strategy at an affordable price in the market. For the implementation of this project, an analysis of the environment was carried out, starting with studies of the sector: competition, consumers, service providers and more external factors that directly and indirectly impact on companies in this industry. Also, to complete the investigation and viability of the business, plans and budgets were made. These plans included the Operations Plan, the Marketing Plan, the Corporate Social Responsibility Plan, the Strategic Plan and, finally, the Financial Plan. Digital Boost has detected its viability through numbers, the first year the project earns a net profit of 8,345.46 soles, the second year will be 6,353.70 soles and 83,248.21 soles for the third year.

Abstract (sommario):
This thesis is a study of Chinese One Child Generation's digital and social sharing. It examines urban youth grassroots communities, including an urban farmers' community and volunteers in educational camps. These case studies explain the emergence of 'sharism' in reaction to the growing risks in China, such as food safety and environmental degradation emanating from China's rapid economic development, and growing urbanism, globalisation, and consumerism. The new forms of 'sharism' are linked to guanxi (social relations) and connected youth communities, which are made possible by increasing accessibility to digital and networked technologies.

Abstract (sommario):
Recent substantial empirical studies adopt the network approach to understand digital technology enabled management of construction projects. The majority of these studies are based on surveys, and focus on complex inter-organisational relationships (relationships between different disciplines) and knowledge-transfer on mega projects. The approvals are one of the major information-based activities, which is argued in literature as essential to construction project enabled through digital collaboration technologies. But limited research articulates inter-personal information exchanges on a daily basis for approvals enabled in the digital collaboration technology. In a setting of interdisciplinary large infrastructure projects, this research employs network approach to examine the project performance in exchanging information for approvals between owner operator and supply chain in infrastructure projects enabled through digital collaboration technology.

Abstract (sommario):
This dissertation offers an overview on the role played by social networks, especially YouTube and Facebook, as digital archives. The focus of my research is on the empirical case study of the vernacular videos shot and circulated during the twenty-nine-day phase of the Tunisian revolution, in the post-January 14, 2011 period. I explore questions of the preservation and transmission of these visual testimonies over time in virtual and offline domains within a critical framework of the commercial and highly-capitalistic nature of social networks. In this respect, I point at the spectator as an agent of transformation in the proposed videos by using the tool of cinematic montage as a modus operandi to create new narratives out of the clips. The findings suggest that, whereas the circulation of footage online decreases in post- January 14, 2011, YouTube turns into a time-based archive that can be used retrospectively by users/spectators to retrieve vernacular videos and recombine them, thanks to infrastructural features, such as searchability and the hyperaccessibility of contents. The spectator emerges as the character who performs social media as archives by forcing the functioning of the algorithm. Spectators create other forms of repositories online and offline, which diffuse the clips, while they create hierarchies among digital objects of the same nature. The clips turn into established aesthetic models of trustworthiness. They constitute a legacy from which to liberate in order to create new representations for a country in transition. Alternatively, they enter fictional narratives that shed light on current controversial political and social issues in the country. The exploration of individual memory also produces a set of narratives. Aside from specific scenes, the interviewed subjects and participants of the focus group perceive an antagonism between digital and physically mediated experiences. Indeed, the whole set of emotional phenomena related to the process of recollection shows this controversial relationship with the clips of the revolution in the present time. These recollections also show the ambivalent weight that the so-called connective memory objects have in the creation of individual and collective memory. My material illustrates, through contradictions and limits, the relevance of social networks as repositories of the Tunisian revolution, post-January 14, 2011. This is despite the commercial nature of these internet products. My material also stresses the role of the spectator within the process of archiving as the character that, ultimately over time, makes preservation possible by means of memory and the creation of additional narratives and storytelling of the twenty-nine-day phase of the revolution.

Abstract (sommario):
The publication explores the features of the digital technologies’ usage to organize the work of the Young Scientists’ Councils and describes the best practices. The digital transformation of society and the quarantine restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have forced the use of various digital technologies for scientific communication, the organization of work for youth associations, and the training of students and Ph.D. students. An important role in increasing the prestige of scientific activity and encouraging talented young people to participate in scientific projects belongs to the Young Scientists’ Councils, which are created at scientific institutions and higher education institutions. It is determined that the peculiarities of the work of Young Scientists’ Councils are in providing conditions for further staff development of the institution in which they operate; contribution to the social, psychological and material support of young scientists and Ph.D. students; creating an environment for teamwork and collaborative partnership; development of leadership and organizational qualities; contribution to the development of digital competence. The advantages of using electronic social networks in higher education and research institutions are analyzed, namely: general popularity and free of charge; prompt exchange of messages and multimedia data; user-friendly interface; availability of event planning functions, sending invitations, setting reminders; support of synchronous and asynchronous communication between network participants; possibility of access from various devices; a powerful tool for organizing the learning process; possibility of organization and work of closed and open groups; advertising of various events, etc. Peculiarities of managing the activity of the Young Scientists’ Council with the use of digital technologies are determined. The Young Scientists’ Council is a social system, and therefore the management of this system refers to social management. The effectiveness of the digital technologies’ usage to manage the activities of the Young Scientists’ Council depends on the intensity and need for their use to implement organizational, presentation functions and to ensure constant communication. The areas to apply digital technologies for the work managing of Young Scientists’ Councils are sorted as the presentation of activity; distribution of various information for young scientists; conducting questionnaires, surveys; organization and holding of scientific mass events; managing of thematic workgroups, holding of work meetings. It is generalized and described the experience of electronic social networks usage for organizing and conducting of scientific mass events.

Abstract (sommario):
Even before the corona pandemic broke out in 2020, the role of digitalisation became more and more apparent within Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) processes. Since the pandemic, intermediary organisations that bridge the distance between academia and the world of business to pave the way for successful university-industry linkages have not primarily been able to build on face-to-face-encounters to create those relations. Based on an ongoing research project, this paper examines how digitally mediated communications potentially enhance or limit knowledge and technology transfer that is primarily based on face-to-face interactions. On the one hand, the use of digitally mediated communications seem to foster the spatial expansion of networks, save travel times and costs and foster a special form of social inclusion. University-industry-relations, on the other hand, still rely on a positive evaluation of face-to-face contacts and geographical proximity for trust to develop between heterogeneous partners. Here, actors with bridging functions like transfer scouts are vital in enabling a regular communicative exchange to create commitment, social cohesion and cooperation in digital contexts. Although the relevance of digitalised transfer processes has been increasing over time, an important set of activities, involving face-to-face contacts and co-location, currently still plays a major role for transfer intermediaries in university-industry-relations.

Abstract (sommario):
This study examines Mozambican popular music to investigate three questions: Are notions of empowerment and accountability present in popular music in Mozambique? If so, what can these existing notions of empowerment and accountability reveal about relations between citizens and state institutions in general and about citizen-led social and political action in particular? In what ways is popular music used to support citizen mobilisation in Mozambique? The discussion is based on an analysis of 46 protest songs, interviews with musicians, music producers and event promoters as well as field interviews and observations among audiences at selected popular music concerts and public workshops in Maputo city. Secondary data were drawn from radio broadcasts, digital media, and social networks. The songs analysed were widely played in the past two decades (1998–2018), a period in which three different presidents led the country. Our focus is on the protest song, conceived as those musical products that are concerned with public affairs, particularly public policy and how it affects citizens’ social, political and economic life, and the relationship between citizens and the state.

Abstract (sommario):
The policy review is part of the project EQualCare: Alone but connected? Digital (in)equalities in care work and generational relationships among older people living alone, a three-year international project involving four countries: Finland, Germany, Latvia and Sweden. EQualCare interrogates inequalities by gender, cultural and socio-economic background between countries, with their different demographics and policy backgrounds. As a first step into empirical analysis, the policy review aims to set the stage for a better understanding of, and policy development on, the intersections of digitalisation with intergenerational care work and care relationships of older people living alone in Germany. The policy review follows a critical approach, in which the problems policy documents address are not considered objective entities, but rather discursively produced knowledge that renders visible some parts of the problem which is to be solved as other possible perspectives are simultaneously excluded. Twenty publicly available documents were studied to analyse the processes in which definitions of care work and digital (in)equalities are circulated, translated and negotiated between the different levels of national government, regional governments and municipalities as well as other agencies in Germany. The policy review consists of two parts: a background chapter providing information on the social structure of Germany, including the historical development of Germany after the Second World War, its political structure, information on the demographic situation with a focus on the 60+ age group, and the income of this age group. In addition, the background presents the structure of work and welfare, the organisation of care for old people, and the state of digitalisation in Germany. The analysis chapter includes a description of the method used as well as an overview of the documents chosen and analysed. The focus of this chapter is on the analysis of official documents that deal with the interplay of living alone in old age, care, and digitalisation. The analysis identified four themes: firstly, ageing is framed largely as a challenge to society, whereas digitalisation is framed as a potential way to tackle social challenges, such as an ageing society. Secondly, challenges of ageing, such as need of care, are set at the individual level, requiring people to organise their care within their own families and immediate social networks, with state support following a principle of subsidiarity. Thirdly, voluntary peer support provides the basis for addressing digital support needs and strategies. Publications by lobby organisations highlight the important work done by voluntary peer support for digital training and the benefits this approach has; they also draw attention to the over-reliance on this form of unpaid support and call for an increase in professional support in ensuring all older people are supported in digital life. Fourthly, ageing as a hinderance to participation in digital life is seen as an interim challenge among younger old people already online.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper studies the concept related to E-learning and the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and their role in organizing future teachers’ terminological work by specialty. It is shown the creation and use of the VLE is a promising approach in qualitative restructuring of future specialists’ vocation training, a suitable complement rather than a complete replacement of traditional learning. The concept of VLE has been disclosed; its structure has been presented as a set of components, such as: the Data-based component, the Communication-based, the Management-and-Guiding ones, and the virtual environments. Some VLE’s potential contributions to the organization of terminological work of future biology teachers’ throughout a traditional classroom teaching, an independent work, and during the field practices has been considered. The content of professionally oriented e-courses “Botany with Basis of Geobotany” and “Latin. Botany Terminology” has been revealed; the ways of working with online definer (guide), with UkrBIN National Biodiversity Information Network, with mobile apps for determining the plant species, with digital virtual herbarium, with free software have been shown. The content of students’ activity in virtual biological laboratories and during virtual tours into natural environment has been demonstrated. The explanations about the potential of biological societies in social networks in view of students’ terminology work have been given. According to the results of empirical research, the expediency of using VLEs in the study of professional terminology by future biology teachers has been confirmed.

Abstract (sommario):
The largest democracy in the world is now moving towards authoritarianism under the Hindutva civilizational populist prime minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s rule. This article focuses on digital rights in India that have seen a sharp decline in recent years. It explores the transformation of the internet and social media, from a relatively open and liberal space to a restricted one. This survey of India’s digital landscape finds that the rise of civilizational populist Modi and his eight years long rule have led to an upsurge in digital surveillance and control and has fostered an environment of online harassment and bullying for those who are critical of the BJP’s views and politics. The article uses a four-level framework (Full Network, Sub-Network, Proxies, and Network Nodes) to explore digital authoritarianism by the BJP government. At each of these levels, the Hindutva populist government has closed avenues of open discussion and exchange of views by enforcing new rules and regulations.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the key lessons of the 2007-2008 global financial crisis is the importance of financial market infrastructures (FMIs) as a pillar of financial stability. Before, the role of financial market infrastructures, namely the provision of trading, clearing, settling, recording, and compressing services for transactions between financial institutions (FIs) was often taken for granted. This was reflected in FMIs having often been referred to as the financial system’s plumbing, including by the Federal Reserve’s 14th chairman (Bernanke, 2011)—a clear reference to the critical yet concealed importance of FMIs in the safe and efficient functioning of financial markets. Today, it is clear that the failure of an important FMI will almost certainly lead to systemic instability in financial markets. Given this, it is evident that FMIs are critical infrastructures; that is, based on a definition by the European Commission (2008), FMIs can be considered systems that are essential for the maintenance of vital societal functions, health, safety, security, economic or social well-being of people. In light of this importance, it’s perhaps surprising that the literature about financial networks has addressed the importance of FMIs rather recently and sparingly. The archetypical financial network, composed of FIs as elements (the nodes) that are interlinked through different types of relations (e.g., exposures, payments, ownership, common holdings), has been complemented by the introduction of FMIs as an additional layer that provides a medium for FIs to interact. As highlighted in Berndsen, et al. (2018), a network of FIs that does not include FMIs is a logical network—one that displays bilateral relations despite those requiring the intervention of an FMI to exist. And that’s why the plumbing reference is particularly illustrative: when looking at the floor plan of a house, the plumbing is a critical additional layer hidden beneath the first—immediately visible—layer; in a building, carelessly knocking down a wall could have a disastrous effect on the supply of water, electricity, gas, communications within the apartment and even to others above and below–not to mention the effect on the structural integrity of the building. However, there are further layers beneath those containing FIs and FMIs. In fact, a financial network composed of FIs and FMIs is still a logical network, as the connections between FIs and FMIs also require the intervention of other elements to exist. Those elements provide the physical connection that enables the interlinkages among FIs and FMIs, in the form of wired (e.g., cable) or wireless (e.g., radio waves) connections. That is, as stated by Berndsen, et al. (2018), the interdependence of financial markets with physical networks, such as power and communication networks, make those networks critical infrastructures and obvious candidates for examining the stability of financial systems from an operational perspective.
