Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):

Abstract (sommario):
As I ponder how we as performance theorists endeavour to analyse the question of context as it relates to theatrical activity, I am struck by the fact that this question has both micro and macro-cosmic implications. Certainly, we must address the far reaching ideological concerns that permeate any performance, but within specific parameters, within the confines of a particular performance, the interrelationship of material components demands that we deal with the physical presence that appears before us. This essay grapples with this problem of theatrical presence through adiscussion of visual perception.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: To study the efficacy of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for visually significant vitreous opacities in improving visual function and quality of life. Study Design: Interventional study. Setting: Department of Vitreoretinal Clinic of Ophthalmology, Nishtar University Hospital Multan. Period: May 2017 to August 2019. Material & Methods: A total of 50 patients of both genders, aged 35 to 65 years having lenticular status (Phakic or pseudophakic patients) and planned for PPV were enrolled for this study. All patients were examined on slit lamp bio microscope. Dilated fundus examination was performed with indirect ophthalmoscope using scleral indentation. Intraocular pressure was measured pre and postoperatively with Goldmann’s applanation tonometer under topical anaesthesia. Diagnosis was made on through clinical examination. All patients underwent 23 gauge PPV with or without silicon oil with endo laser. Best spectacle corrected visual acuity was recorded with help of Snellen chart. Results: There were 50 eyes of 50 patients in two groups, 40 phakic eyes (80%) and 10 pseudophakic eyes (20%) that underwent 3 PPV for visually significant opacities. There were 38 (76.0%) male and 12 (24.0%) female patients. Thirty four (68.0%) out of 50 patients showed improved best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA) and visual function while 18% had BCVA 6/24 – 6/18. Forty three (86.0%) patients reported quality of life and psychological feel improvement. Conclusion: Pars plana vitrectomy is a safe, effective and viable option for annoying vitreous floaters. There are risks of retinal breaks, rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and cataract. Surgeon must be ready for prompt handling of patient.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract We propose a novel least significant bit steganography algorithm based on a Hitzl-Zele chaotic function. On the first step a pseudorandom generator is constructed for chaotic pixel selection for hiding the secret message. Exact study has been provided on the novel scheme using visual inspection, peak signal-to-noise ratio, and histogram analysis. The experimental data show excellent performance of the novel stego technique.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract The medical images of people are important and sensitive and cannot be shared with the public considering privacy measures. Maintaining the confidentiality of the medical image is essential, and leakage of such information can cause great loss. Therefore, the information has to be secured while being transferred through a third party, which can be any network medium. Thus, there is a need for developing a robust encryption algorithm. These algorithms improve the security of the ongoing pictures by compromising the nature of the picture and utilizing complex calculations. Algorithms that work on the nature of the picture by utilizing complex cycles, for example, error diffusion, halftoning, wavelet transform, and dithering, lead to time complexity. Thus, a compact and efficient cryptographic algorithm is proposed with fewer mathematical computations that ensure the secured transmission and reception of medical images through the medium using Significant Visual Cryptography (SVC). In SVC, initially, the quality of the secret images (SI) is improved by using the Error Abatement Technique (EAT). The output of EAT is used to generate random share values, which are then implanted in cover pictures. The shares that are transmitted do not reveal the secret information present in the original image because of the steganography features involved in this technique. The integrated check value (ICV) is calculated over the region of interest (ROI) at the encryption and decryption sides to provide additional security. Quality and security analyses have been carried out to ensure the robustness of the algorithm. The detailed study proved that the proposed algorithm beat the constraints of the current calculations. The concept of checking the integrity value and steganography features enhanced the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose. To determine factors associated with the presence of significant ocular injury in subjects with orbital fractures.Subjects.A consecutive prospective cohort of 161 patients presenting to a general tertiary referral hospital with orbital fractures and undergoing initial conservative treatment was identified. Subjects were assessed at time of injury for the need for emergency surgery, and those initially treated conservatively were subsequently followed up by the Ophthalmology Department to assess for ocular injury requiring ophthalmic management at 1–7 days after injury. Associations between ocular injury and age, sex, visual acuity, presence of blowout fracture, extent of orbital involvement, and presence of distant facial fractures were assessed.Results.142 male (average age of 32 [95% CI 30–35]) and 19 female (average age of 49 [95% CI 39–59]) subjects were identified. 17 subjects were diagnosed with significant ocular injury. Ocular injury was significantly associated with LogMAR VA worse than 0.2 (OR 49 [95% CI 11–217,P<0.0001]), but no relationship was noted for age, sex, presence of blowout fracture, extent of fractures, or presence of distal facial fractures. LogMAR visual acuity worse than or equal to 0.2 had a 98% negative predictive value for ocular injury in the setting of orbital fractures.Conclusions.Demographic and nonophthalmic fracture characteristics were not useful predictors of ocular injury in orbital fractures. LogMAR visual acuity worse than or equal to 0.2 is a highly sensitive and useful guide of the need for ophthalmic referral in subjects with orbital fractures.

Abstract (sommario):
Visual hallucinations, illusions, and distortions have been observed in individuals undergoing severe periods of extended wakefulness. However, the incidence of these perceptual phenomena occurring during applied domains such as driving have been underreported. This study investigates effects of a 30-hour period of extended wakefulness during which participants abstained from stimulants and were not allowed to sleep or nap. Participants drove every 4 hours during this period on an uneventful 30-minute driving route in a fullcab high fidelity driving simulator. At the end of the study, participants reported whether they experienced significant visual illusions or distortions, and when the events occurred. Participants reported visual distortions and illusions during drives comprising a time period between 22 and 30 hours awake. Furthermore, self-reported mental workload and extroversion predicted the likelihood of experiencing the visual phenomena. Potential mechanisms for this relationship and possible consequences for safe driving performance during significant sleep deprivation are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
Matching performance is better when pairs of visual stimuli are presented in bilateral conditions—in which one stimulus is presented to each side of the visual field—than in unilateral presentations—when both stimuli are presented to one side of the field. This is called the bilateral field advantage (BFA). The processing of visual motion has also been found to be more strongly integrated across the cerebral hemispheres than is processing of static cues. However, in these studies higher-order motion tasks, such as processing motion-defined form, have not been examined. To determine if the BFA generalises to such tasks, we measured the magnitude of the effect using a shape-matching task in which the stimuli were random polygons that were either in motion, motion-defined, or static. The polygon pairs were presented either: (i) bilaterally, one to either side of the vertical meridian; (ii) unilaterally, both to one side of the vertical meridian (left or right visual fields); or (iii) centrally, vertically separated across the horizontal meridian (a control condition). An equal advantage of bilateral conditions over unilateral ones was found for all three types of polygon shape cues, showing that the BFA generalises to conditions where shapes are in motion and where shape is defined by motion. These findings are compatible with the notion that motion processing is strongly integrated across the cerebral hemispheres, and with the idea that this integration manifests itself with simple motion information, rather than with higher-order motion processing such as matching shapes defined by motion.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction. Macular edema is the most common cause of visual impairment in NPDR. Macular edema occurs due to increased perifoveal capillary permeability resulting in fluid accumulation in the macular area. Control of blood sugar levels is an important factor in the management of diabetic retinopathy because it can reduce the risk of progression of retinopathy, decreased vision and macular edema. Currently, focal photocoagulation argon lasers are the only proven long-term treatment for diabetic macular edema. Case presentation. Reported case of a 55-year-old woman, address outside the city, came to the Palembang RSMH eye clinic with complaints of blurred vision since ± 6 months ago. three days ago, the patient went to an internal medicine clinic and was said to have high blood sugar and blood pressure. The views of both sufferers' eyes are increasingly blurred. The treatment chosen for this patient was intravitreal anti-VEGF (bevacizumab) injection in the right and left eye to reduce vascular permeability thereby reducing macular edema. 1-time bevacizumab injection has only a short-term optimal effect so re-injection is needed at 4-6 weeks intervals. Conclusion. A clinically significant case of macular edema (CSME) has been reported that is treated with intravitreal anti-VEGF combined with focal photon photocoagulation laser. The patient's final vision 1 week after the focal photocoagulation argon laser was performed showed improvement

Abstract (sommario):
The article examines the phenomenon of one-sequence video art. The author argues that the omission of such a significant element as editing helps the artist diminish the plot-line and build a specific communication with the viewer when instead of being a passive recipient he/she becomes an active interpreter of the visual text and the artists collaborator. The rejection of editing allows the artist cement the link with the audience, enhance their empathy, stimulate their cognitive activity.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: To analyze statistically significant differences between the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) in low back pain (LBP) patients. Study Design: Prospective longitudinal Study. Place and Duration of Study: Orthopaedic and Spine Department, Combined Military Hospital, Peshawar Pakistan, from Sep 2019 to May 2020. Methodology: The study included two hundred one patients with low back pain presented to the Orthopedic and Spine OPD.All patients were asked to record their pain with a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) at the start of the visit and a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) at the exit, at approximately 5-7 minute intervals in the Outpatient Department. Results: Two hundred one patients were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was 41.5 years (range 15-75). Thecomparison of pain measurements with the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) showed a mean of 7.408(SD1.853), whereas with the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), it was 6.864 (SD1.954). This showed higher readings with NRS compared to VAS, with a mean difference of 0.544 (p-value was <0.001). Conclusion: The numerical Rating Scale (NRS) tends to produce higher pain readings than the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Treatment guidelines should be considered when interpreting studies that have used VAS interchangeably and wrongly reported it as NRS.
