Purpose. One-piece titanium implants are not routinely used for reconstruction after tooth loss. Several limitations seemed to be apparent although the concept provides a straightforward approach for different clinical situations. A clinical documentation of five prosthetic restorations with one-piece titanium implants serving as a relevant treatment option in dental surgery is pursued. We demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of one-piece titanium implants for fixed dental prosthesis. Detailed descriptions of the technical features and the surgical approach by means of clinical cases are given. The prosthetic workflow when working with one-piece titanium implants is depicted in detail as well as examples for implant-supported tooth replacement in the posterior region and the esthetic zone. Conditions of applications regarding different timing of implant placement using the system and its limitations are discussed. Results. Clinical cases with a follow-up period of up to 10 years are presented to prove the long-term success of one-piece titanium implants in terms of bone and soft-tissue stability respecting the biological criteria for periodontal health. Conclusions. One-piece titanium implants represent a reliable treatment method for single-tooth replacements. Clinical success with long-time bone stability around the implantation site can be achieved. Taken into account the requirements for periodontal tissue stability, uneventful healing without extensive tissue loss is demonstrated by means of clinical cases presenting patients with periodontitis.

In this research, the writer chose the object of an advertisement for a phenomenal comic series, namely One Piece. The results of the study show that from the denotative side tells about the life of urban residents in the city center, from the connotative side it equality and from the mythical side it conveys the influence of the One Piece story on women's enthusiasm in realizing dreams. The results of the study also found 5 Roland Barthes narrative codes, including: hermeneutic code used in the dialogue about people who’ve never read One Piece mean they haven’t truly live. Proairetic code is used influence reading One Piece. Semantic code is in the description of the main character's work. Symbolic code can be seen in the antithesis of the main character's character, namely the nature of his partner. The cultural code is found in the depiction of the main character and his partner who live together even though they are not married.

Several histologic studies regarding peri-implant soft tissues and biological width around dental implants have been done in animals. However, these findings in human peri-implant soft tissues are very scarce. Therefore, the aim of this case series was to compare the biological width around unloaded one- and two-piece implants retrieved from human jaws. Eight partially edentulous patients received 2 test implants in the posterior mandible: one-piece (solid implants that comprise implant and abutment in one piece) and two-piece (external hexagon with a healing abutment) implants. After 4 months of healing, the implants and surrounding tissue were removed for histologic analysis. The retrieved implants showed healthy peri-implant bone and exhibited early stages of maturation. Marginal bone loss, gaps, and fibrous tissue were not present around retrieved specimens. The biologic width dimension ranged between 2.55 ± 0.16 and 3.26 ± 0.15 to one- and two-piece implants, respectively (P<0.05). This difference was influenced by the connective tissue attachment, while sulcus depth and epithelial junction presented the same dimension for both groups (P>0.05). Within the limits of this study, it could be shown that two-piece implants resulted in the thickening of the connective tissue attachment, resulting in the increase of the biological width, when compared to one-piece implants.

El doblaje de animación japonesa ha suscitado el interés de los investigadores desde 2010 a raíz de los primeros estudios sobre las adaptaciones de las series más populares de la televisión española de la década de los 90 del pasado siglo. Sin embargo, se ha prestado menos atención a los procesos de traducción específicos del anime como encargo de traducción. El análisis de los materiales de trabajo utilizados por los equipos de sonorización originales arrojará luz sobre los elementos específicos, tanto de la imagen original que se utiliza para doblar como del guion original que tienen los actores de doblaje originales a su disposición. La descripción de estos revelará similitudes y diferencias con los símbolos utilizados en los guiones que habitualmente llegan a manos de los traductores profesionales de idiomas más comunes. Se concluye que disponer de los mismos materiales que los equipos humanos de la producción original facilitaría al profesional el encargo de traducción y el ajuste al español en determinadas circunstancias.

We present a statistical analysis of music scores from different composers using detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA). We find different fluctuation profiles that correspond to distinct autocorrelation structures of the musical pieces. Further, we reveal evidence for the presence of nonlinear autocorrelations by estimating the DFA of the magnitude series, a result validated by a corresponding study of appropriate surrogate data. The amount and the character of nonlinear correlations vary from one composer to another. Finally, we performed a simple experiment in order to evaluate the pleasantness of the musical surrogate pieces in comparison with the original music and find that nonlinear correlations could play an important role in the aesthetic perception of a musical piece.

This study conducts an in-depth analysis of the representation of justice systems and the duality of law enforcement as depicted in the popular manga and anime series "One Piece" by Eiichiro Oda. Employing a literature review with Siyasah Syar'iyah theory as the theoretical framework, this research explores how concepts within Siyasah Syar'iyah can be applied to understand the complex justice system presented in this fictional world. The research is divided into two main sections: firstly, examining the representation of the justice system in "One Piece," where law is applied across various characters and situations, highlighting conflicts and compromises between personal morality and the prevailing law. Secondly, the study integrates the perspective of Siyasah Syar'iyah to analyze how these principles are applicable in the context of law and justice within the narrative. The findings indicate that, although "One Piece" is a work of fiction, its representation of the justice system and the duality of law enforcement reflects relevant justice issues in actual society. The Navy and the World Government in "One Piece" often implement actions that are absolute and monolithic, demonstrating a tendency to disregard fair legal processes and human rights. This practice conflicts with the principles of Siyasah Syar'iyah, which emphasize justice, transparency, and accountability. The study also highlights how power and social status can influence the interpretation and application of justice, as represented by Tenryuubito and Yonko, showing disparities in social and legal justice. Therefore, "One Piece" not only entertains but also provides a platform for critical discussions on justice and law enforcement, enabling reflection on real-world justice practices. This research adds a new dimension to the study of law and justice by integrating the principles of Siyasah Syar'iyah. It enriches the literature on interdisciplinary analysis between law, pop culture, and Islamic studies.

AIM: To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes in cases after sutured scleral fixation of existing subluxated or dislocated acrylic one-piece intraocular lenses (IOLs). METHODS: This study retrospectively enrolled a consecutive series of patients who underwent a surgery of sutured existing subluxated or dislocated IOLs from October 2018 to June 2020. All patients underwent comprehensive preoperative and postoperative ophthalmologic examination, and data were collected including age, sex, surgical indications, best-corrected visual acuity, refractive error, intraocular pressure. Presence of intraoperative and postoperative surgical complications was documented. RESULTS: A total of 20 consecutive cases were enrolled for analysis with mean final follow-up period 9.8±5.3mo. Visual acuity improved from a mean of 0.35 (0.46±0.32 logMAR) preoperatively to 0.61 (0.21±0.18 logMAR) at the 3-month follow-up (P=0.002). The mean amount of preoperative keratometric astigmatism and total postoperative refractive astigmatism was -1.24±0.80 diopters (D) and -1.42±0.97 D, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between preoperative and postoperative astigmatism (P=0.156). The mean IOL-induced astigmatism was -0.23±0.53 D. The mean spherical equivalent at the 3-month follow-up was -0.1±0.94 D. No major complications were noted during the follow-up period. CONCLUSION: Surgical techniques using sutured scleral fixation of existing subluxated or dislocated acrylic one-piece IOLs result in favorable visual and refractive outcomes without major complications.

A prototypical three-pulley serpentine belt drive with belt bending stiffness is extended to include a one-way clutch in order to understand the non-linear dynamics of the system with the one-way clutch performance. The clutch is modelled based on the relative velocity of the driven pulley and its accessory. The clutch locks (engages) the pulley and accessory for zero relative velocity and produces a positive inner clutch torque. Zero clutch torque initiates clutch disengagement, allowing unequal velocities of the two components. This model leads to a piece-wise linear system. The transition matrix is used to evaluate the system response in discrete time series for the two linear configurations, saving significant computational time. The system dynamics including response and dynamic tension drop are examined for varying excitation frequencies, inertia ratio of the pulley and accessory, and external load. The investigation of vibration reduction because of the single-direction power transmission of the clutch provides design guidelines in practice.

The main aim of this case series was to report the clinical and radiographic outcomes of 22 one-piece zirconia dental implants positioned in 19 patients to restore single edentulisms and followed up for at least 2 years. The mean observation period was 58.18 months. At the last follow-up visit, no issues, such as foreign body sensation, discomfort or pain, were reported by the patients. No implant showed signs of infection with suppuration or implant mobility. Marginal bone levels (MBL) were assessed through standardized dental radiographs and a dedicated software. The mean distance between the implant head and the first detectable bone to implant contact was calculated at the mesial and distal aspect of each implant. The mean MBL at baseline was 1.82 ± 0.63 mm while the mean MBL at the last follow-up visit was 2.57 ± 0.72 mm. The results obtained in the present case series over a mean follow-up period of 58.18 months (range 27–96) showed that one-piece zirconia dental implants could be an alternative option to support single crowns in patients requiring metal-free restorations. Nevertheless, further better-controlled research featuring an adequate study design and longer follow-up is needed in order to clarify advantages and limitations which are related to this treatment modality.

Unconventional characters have always piqued people’s interests, and that includes characters in anime. Mother is a role that is so familiar in the society, with certain characteristics expected of them. Certain mothers in anime acts differently than what is usually expected of them as mothers. This study is conducted to analyse the portrayal of the three antagonists in Japanese anime series One Piece, The Promised Neverland, and Diabolik Lovers respectively: Charlotte Linlin, Isabella, and Sakamaki Cordelia that can be considered unmotherly. The study is done using theories regarding good and bad mothers provided by A. E. Kaplan (1992), Huppartz and Goodwin (n.d.), and H. L. Hadley (2018). The analysis shows how the three mothers deviated from their role as a nurturing mother, showing actions that proved the three mothers to be destructive towards their children. The writer concludes that the three mothers show how mothers are people capable of emotions other than gentleness and care, they are capable of malice and hate, calculating and cruel as well be it biological mothers or foster mothers.

Background. The piano ensemble as a special type of chamber music has become popular in recent decades, as evidenced by numerous international piano duo competitions taking place in different countries, music festivals, master classes. Whereas a large number of scientifi c works is devoted to four-hand duo, two-piano ensemble began to attract the active attention of researchers only in the present day. Despite the individual approaches to its specifi cs and selected music examples, the generic properties of this phenomenon, which distinguish it among other forms of duo music, remain uncertain. Also, the ensemble features the numerous works of the 20th century demonstrating the attraction of the newest composing techniques, enhancing the role of sound and numerical structures, the law of symmetry, etc., while preserving continuity with tradition require a profound study. Objectives. The purpose of the article is to uncover a meaningful idea as well as artistic and aesthetic principles in the macro cycle “Plays” for two pianos by P. Dambis. Methods. An integrated approach together with the theoretical and the comparative research methods was used. Results. A series of ensemble pieces for two pianos by the Latvian composer P. Dambis appears as a kind of quintessence of playing performance logic. During the period of 1973 to 1979, the composer wrote a cycle of 10 pieces, organized in 3 series. The author unites all the pieces under a single name “Plays”, thus revealing his understanding of the piano duo possibilities. The fi rst series dates back to 1973–1974 and includes three contrasting pieces that have different image and style reference. All of them bear the imprint of modern compositional technology, while maintaining an organic connection with cyclic genres. Each of the plays has its internal contrasts, as evidenced by the change of texture and intonation complexes. Emphasizing the second-third music phrases, ostinato repetition, multiple transformations variants of the original element very distinctly makes the Piece Nr. 1 resemble the neofolklore searches of the 20th century without a direct connection with folk sources. In the Piece Nr. 2, the play-dialogue unfolds in the image stylistic space of romanticism, creating an allusion to the famous “La Campanella” by F. Liszt, as well as to the unpretentious music world of F. Mendelssohn. The last Piece of this series demonstrates the synthesis of diatonic and chromatic scales, various types of motion, inversion of structures, shifting of accents, repetitious chanting, sonorant aleatoric synchronous performance of sound complexes. The second series of “Plays” (1975–1976) includes two Pieces; it continues with the variety of previously embodied constructive motifs, although it outlines them more sharply through the opposing ensemble parts. The technique of moving each of the parts into their tonal environment in the Piece Nr. 4 emphasizes their independence, causing the exchange of replicas as if in a dialogue. Whereas Piano I part goes in B-dur and its melody is perceived as an allusion to the second movement of Schumann’s Kreisleriana, in Piano II part, we see harmonious fi guration of polytonal connections: G major - Fis-dur. A colorful palette is created, and it generates a “tail” of sonorous effects. They are achieved through the register technique when the parts of the ensemble are gradually mixed together. On the other hand, the whole usage of white and black keyboard appears in a new way, more broadly – of diatronics and chromaticism, which are interpreted in the music of the twentieth century as certain image-bearing spheres that are sometimes opposed to each other, and as the fundamental constants of different music systems. The Piece Nr. 5 is composed in the competitive spirit between sonorous effects, which is typical for the fi nal sections, and the traditional vocabulary of metric music. The third series of “Plays” (1978–1979) is the largest one as it includes fi ve pieces. Whereas in the fi rst two series of “Plays” the principle of randomness comes into effect periodically, then, beginning with the play number 6, it dominates in the creation of themes and forms. In the third series, P. Dambis embodies sonority and aleatory techniques in different ways either through creating the necessary effect by using an unregulated overlay of diachromatic sequences or interval structures, or through combining them with the traditional rhythm and metric methods of writing. The Piece Nr. 8 can be attributed to the samples where the prominent thematic principle prevails: that is, the clearly defi ned “landscape – background” texture, the presence of constructions that refer to certain genre prototypes, the dance scherzo themes, the energy of the dotted rhythm in triad chords etc. The “Plays” Nr. 9 differ by the miniature form, which is easily explained by using the already well-known playing fi gures. P. Dambis retains the contrast of two clearly defi ned sections, the ametric and the metric music presented both in the horizontal and in the vertical projections, written all the texture voices throughout the whole section and the square structure of the interval sequence. Despite the difference between thematic ideas in this piece, their similarity is revealed through more careful analysis. In other words, the composer offers different modes of one and the same thing. In contrast to the statuesque fi gures, typical of P. Dambis, which get their internal mobility through the ostinato repetition, in the Plays Nr 9. the author introduces the hemi-group that chromatically descends in both parts in parallel, and then moves in opposite directions. Although long time values predominate here, their weight is neutralized by the tempo, thrills, and wide steps. The leaps that exceed the octave bring the game factor; additionally, they are emphasized by a syncope. We can observe a theatrical play with different characters involved, which is enhanced with the comic techniques. Conclusions. The macrocycle for two pianos by P. Dambis reveals the composer’s attitude to both tradition and new discoveries in the music of the 20th century. Nine music pieces represent a kind of anthology showing the development of composer’s thought as a whole: from the desire to preserve the connection with folk prototypes, as evidenced by the signs of the “sutatirne” in the fi rst two pieces, through various allusions of the famous classical examples, to sonoric aleatory technique , which appears as a modus of Baroque improvisation on the new stage of the history. In this sense, the title “Plays” the composer chose acquires new semantic overtones, bringing varied experience of musical culture and allowing to attribute the macrocycle to the synthesizing tendency in music of the previous century.

Bishop, the eponymous new student at Henry Ford High School, attempts to make sense of his classroom, where students prepare for the next in a parade of tests that will measure their creativity. In this dystopia, writing has been completely codified, distilled to a series of formulae, mechanisms, and flow charts that purport to deliver writers to proficiency. Layered with themes of power, politics, and dehumanization, the piece endeavors to caricature the folly of over-measurement while providing catharsis to those whose real-life classrooms are all too similar to the one depicted. The piece is followed by an actual missive the author received from his union representative after this piece had been accepted that demonstrates how fact isn’t far from fiction: life indeed imitates art.

A Bayesian model for a nonstationary time series with an unknown number of change points and censored observations where each piece is assumed to be an autoregressive process of order unknown is considered in this paper. To estimate the number and localizations of the unknown change points the Reversible Jump Markov Chain Monte Carlo (RJMCMC) algorithm developed by [green95] is used. AbstractDuring his short lifetime, Reza Abdoh (1963–1995) was hailed as a trailblazing theater artist in the avant-garde art scenes of both Los Angeles and New York, where he created a series of massive performance spectacles that sought to intervene critically in the American political status quo. His 1992 piece The Law of Remains stages a furious response to the US American AIDS crisis, depicting it through the allegorical lens of a film being made by Andy Warhol based on the life of queer serial killer and cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer. Performed in the ruins of an abandoned hotel ballroom, the piece drew attention in The New York Times for being “one of the angriest theater pieces ever hurled at a New York audience.” This article analyzes the political dimension of Abdoh’s theater by focusing on specific gestural elements that occur at key moments in The Law of Remains. Doing so, it brings together theories of gesture from Hans-Thies Lehmann, Giorgio Agamben, Judith Butler, and Walter Benjamin, and configures these viewpoints into a constellation through which the politics of gesture in Abdoh can be illuminated. What emerges in Abdoh is a politics of “hopeless hope,” one uniquely meaningful for our planetary present tense.

The article is dedicated to the structural-compositional analysis of the choral miniature Codrule, codrutule signed by the composer Petru Serban from the Republic of Moldova, written in the second half of the 20th century, from the perspective of a conductive interpretive approach. The piece stands out through a compositional language of a particular expressiveness. It represents a choral writing in which the homophone-harmonic exposition predominates providing a series of original opportunities for interpretive-conducting approach. The author comes with a series of recommendations in this regard, derived from his own interpretive practice, which aim to accelerate the learning process of the musical material of the miniature and bring to the public a more complete version of the interpretation of the given musical piece, which has become, in the meanwhile, one of reference in the local choral repertoire.

The Italian composer Luciano Berio, a classic of modern music, is distinguished by a rare variety of creative solutions and a wide range of interests. Sequenza I, written by Berio in 1958, marked the beginning of a series of 14 pieces. They are dedicated to contemporary interpretation of possibilities of various instruments and voice in the genre of a solo concert piece. The Sequenzas are an example of virtuosity and an encyclopedia of the development of Berio’s aesthetics in the period from 1958 to 2002. In most of the pieces, Berio uses a combination of experimental instrumental techniques and dramatic elements. He calls his Sequenzas “extremely sophisticated gestural exercises”. Sequenza IV (1965) is one of the pieces with a more traditional approach. Berio avoids an experimental manner of playing and sound touche and continues to develop his own concept of a polyphonic composition. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of Sequenza IV, briefly focuses on the other Sequenzas and explores some aspects of Berio’s creativity.

A movie is a type of literary work to entertain and convey a value or message to the viewer. The movie strives to communicate moral values, which are considered positive attitudes that could be adopted by everyone. This study aims to identify and analyze the moral values contained in the one-piece anime movies "Z" and "Stampede”. This study uses a grounded theory approach to the descriptive-qualitative method and analyze the moral values in the movies by using Sulistiyani’s moral theories. This study focuses on analyzing two anime films from the One Piece series, namely Z and Stampede. This research findings shows that numerous morals can drive and teach us as viewers. The morals found in the movies are courage, self-sacrifice, honesty, justice, wisdom, respect and appreciation, hard work, fulfilling promises, supporting others, and working together. Unfortunately, belief in God's values is not found in these movies since the themes of these movies are action, adventure, and, most significantly, friendship. Moreover, the moral values mostly delivered in these movies are helping others. Finally, the researcher suggests that the viewers not only derive enjoyment from the movie's plot but also apply its moral values to enhance their own character to become better individuals.

Objectives: The aim of this prospective case series was to evaluate single-piece zirconia implants restored with lithium disilicate CAD/CAM crowns through a long-term follow-up. Methods: In this trial, 20 one-piece zirconia implants were placed in 20 patients. Implants were restored (i) immediately with lithium disilicate CAD/CAM provisionals, and (ii) permanently four months after surgery. Patients were followed for 11 years. Clinical parameters and radiological measurements of the zirconia implants were assessed. For the statistical analysis, paired t-test was applied. Results: Four implants were counted as implant failure due to the loss of implant stability, resulting in a Kaplan–Meier survival rate of 80% up to 11 years. The mean bleeding on probing values were 19.1% (SD ± 13.1) and 18.2% (SD ± 17.6) 96 and 11 years after implant placement, respectively. The plaque index revealed a significant decrease over time (p < 0.001) with a value between 25.9% (SD ± 5.7) and 12.6% (SD ± 10.0) at baseline and 11-years follow-up respectively. The marginal bone level revealed a significant decrease 4, 8, and 11 years after implant insertion (p = 0.001, p = 0.019, and p = 0.027, respectively). Conclusions: Immediately loaded zirconia single-piece implants showed a suitable success rate in clinical and radiographic outcomes.

Abstract The paper examines how members of the “Cluj/Kolozsvár School” of composition, the disciples of Sigismund Toduţă, Gábor Jodál, Max Eisikovits and János Jagamas dealt with the influence of Bartók. One can find traces of Bartókian influence in the work of Transylvanian composers beginning from the 1950s, a series of hommage-compositions being written on the occasion of Bartók-anniversaries in 1965, 1970 and especially 1981. The last piece mentioned was composed in 1998. The paper focuses on the cases of five individual composers: Cornel Ţăranu, Ede Terényi, Péter Vermesy, György Orbán and Boldizsár Csíky. In addition to the analysis of certain compositions à la Bartók written by them, their declarations as well as the role of Ernő Lendvai's theories are taken into consideration. A distinction is made among (1) the arrangements of folk music melodies collected by Bartók, (2) the hommage-pieces containing quotations from Bartók's art music, and finally, (3) those longer or shorter periods in a composer's career in which Bartók's influence can be detected in a whole series of compositions.

ObjectiveIntraocular lens (IOL) repositioning using a closed-eye approach could be carried out in some selected cases. Our study focuses on the efficacy and safety of a IOL closed-eye repositioning technique using scleral suture, which is performed using a trocar as an intrastromal limbal guide.Methods and analysisThirty-one eyes of 31 patients with late IOL dislocation operated on between January 2015 and May 2017 were included in this retrospective non-comparative consecutive case series study. The patients had a single-piece in-the-bag dislocation or a 3-pieces in-the-bag or out-of-the-bag dislocation. The patients underwent an anterior vitrectomy and a scleral refixation in a closed chamber using a 10/0 polypropylene suture passed through a 25 Gauge trocar inserted in the anterior chamber.ResultsThe mean follow-up time was 19.54 months. Average preoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.73 LogMar (±0.21 SD); while average postoperative BCVA was 0.27 LogMar (±0.23 SD). Fifteen patients underwent anterior pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) while 16 patients did not; moreover, two patients underwent PPV. Six patients had an increase of postoperative intraocular pressure, two patients had postoperative decentration, two patients had postoperative cystoid macular oedema, none of the patients had major complications such as retinal detachment, choroidal detachment, malignant glaucoma, irreversible corneal decompensation and endophthalmitis.ConclusionWe can affirm that our technique may be safe and useful in the case of 3-piece in-the bag or out-of the bag dislocated IOLs and also in the case of in-the-bag single-piece dislocated IOLs.

Aim of the study. To compare the shear bond strength of metal brackets with foil mesh (3M, Victory Series), one piece metal brackets (Cannon Ultra) and aesthetic plastic brackets (Cannon Ultra) and to evaluate the sandblasting effect on previously used metal bracket bases regarding their bonding ability. Materials and Methods.A total of seventy human third molars were divided into four groups, and brackets were bonded to the enamel using Transbond XT. After 24 hours of storage, brackets were debonded with Instron Universal Testing Machine® and shear bond strength was recorded. Metal brackets were sandblasted until all visible bonding material was removed from the bracket base and then the bonding procedure and shear bond testing were repeated. Shapiro-Wilk test was used to check normal distribution. Student’s t-test was used to compare the shear bond strength. Results. The shear bond strength of one-piece metal brackets is significantly bigger (18.93MPa) than metal brackets with foil mesh (12.53MPa). Metal brackets in general demonstrate better bonding properties than aesthetic plastic brackets (8.61MPa). There is no statistically significant difference in shear bond strength between new and re-used sandblasted brackets. Conclusions. One-piece brackets with anchor pylons demonstrate better bonding properties but there is a higher risk of enamel damage during debonding of re-used sandblasted brackets.

We designed a series of experiments and analyses to quantify the contribution of gravity to pulmonary perfusion heterogeneity. Regional pulmonary perfusion was measured in five anesthetized and ventilated dogs in both supine and prone positions by use of radiolabeled microspheres injected during apnea at functional residual capacity. Measurements of flow were repeated in each position, and the sequence of positions was prospectively designed to nullify any effect of order. The lungs of each animal were excised, perfused with saline until clear, dried at an inflation pressure of 25 cmH2O, and cut into 1.9-cm3 pieces. Each piece was weighed and the radioactivity determined in a scintillation counter. Measurement errors were minimized by excluding lung pieces that had greater than 25% airway and weighed less than 10 mg or greater than 60 mg. Weight-normalized flows in each position and repetition were determined for each lung piece. An analysis of variance model was used to identify the percentage of variation in regional flow that was due to position (supine vs. prone), to random error and time (measurement and repetition), and to structure, where structure was defined as the component of flow that remained constant across position and replication. The contributions of position, error/time, and structure to the total variability of flow across the five dogs were 7.8 +/- 0.6, 8.4 +/- 8.3, and 83.8 +/- 8.4%, (SD), respectively. Because the contribution of position represents the additive effect of gravity between two opposite positions, the contribution of gravity to perfusion heterogeneity in one position may be as little as 4%.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Negli anni successivi, il fumetto non solo si è attestato, a livello globale, come il più venduto di tutti i tempi, ma ha anche ispirato la creazione di prodotti multimediali diversi. Tra questi, spiccano per successo ottenuto, almeno all’interno del mercato mediale dell’Occidente, l’anime, e cioè la serie animata, andata in onda in Italia, sulle reti Mediaset, sin dal 2001, e la trasposizione in live-action, resa disponibile a partire dal 2023 sulla piattaforma Netflix. Viene dunque da chiedersi se il medium di partenza abbia effettivamente rappresentato un modello o un paradigma per le trasposizioni che da esso, come per gemmazione, sono derivate. A questo interrogativo si tenterà di rispondere nel corso del presente lavoro, provando a verificare la tenuta del testo reggente come guida per le opzioni linguistiche adottate nell’anime e nel live-action, mediante la rilevazione di convergenze e divergenze lessicali nel passaggio tra media diversi. More than a quarter of a century has passed since the release of the first volume of One Piece, the manga created by Eiichirō Oda. In the intervening years, this comic has not only established itself as the best-selling comic book of all time at a global scale, but it has also inspired the creation of different media products. Among these, the most successful, at least within the Western media market, are the anime, i.e. the animated series, broadcast in Italy, on the Mediaset networks, since 2001, and the live-action transposition, made available from 2023 on the Netflix platform. The question therefore arises as to whether the original medium has actually represented a model or a paradigm for the transpositions that have stemmed from it. In this paper, we will attempt to answer this question, by trying to verify the resilience of the original text as a guide for the linguistic options adopted in anime and live-action, through the detection of lexical convergences and divergences in the transition between different media.

The Continuous Flow System (CFS) is a production system that focuses on one piece flow product at every process in the assembly line. The implementation of this CFS could lead to operational excellence in terms of productivity, space utilization and the number of workers. CFS can be considered as a lean manufacturing foundation and its effective implementation promises significant savings in operation. CFS is achieved through a series of associated kaizen activities at the identified working place. The kaizen activities include establishment of Standardized Work (SW), implementation of U-shaped line and establishment of Material Handling System (MHS). All these activities are carried with one ultimate goal; to eliminate identified waste at the work place. This is essential to any CFS implementation. This paper presents a series of kaizen activities that have been engaged in creating the continuous flow system at the identified assembly line. This is a case-based study which was conducted at a local auto-component company in Malaysia. Findings from the results show that the company has achieved high productivity, minimal space utilization as well as reduction in number of direct manpower. The outcome of this CFS implementation confirms that it has met the supposedly lean principles also known as the one piece flow. Therefore, the objective of this study is to highlight the implemented kaizen activities and its benefit in achieving the CFS of the case study.

The objective was to investigate the clinical and radiological outcome of one-piece zirconia oral implants to support three-unit fixed dental prostheses (FDP) after three years in function. Twenty-seven patients were treated with a total of 54 implants in a one-stage surgery and immediate provisionalization. Standardized radiographs were taken at implant placement, after one year and after three years, to evaluate peri-implant bone loss. Soft-tissue parameters were also assessed. Linear mixed regression models as well as Wilcoxon Signed Rank tests were used for analyzing differences between groups and time points (p < 0.05). At the three-year evaluation, one implant was lost, resulting in a cumulative survival rate of 98.1%. The mean marginal bone loss amounted to 2.16 mm. An implant success grade I of 52% (bone loss of ≤2 mm) and success grade II of 61% (bone loss of ≤3 mm) were achieved. None of the evaluated baseline parameters affected bone loss. The survival rate of the zirconia implants was comparable to market-available titanium implants. However, an increased marginal bone loss was observed with a high peri-implantitis incidence and a resulting low implant success rate.

Abstract Background Rectal endoscopic full- thickness dissection (EFTD) using a flexible colonoscope is an alternative to the well-established trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) and the trans-anal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) techniques for resecting dysplastic or malignant rectal lesions. This study evaluated EFTD safety by analyzing outcomes of the first patients to undergo rectal EFTD at the University Hospital of North-Norway. Methods The first 10 patients to undergo rectal EFTD at the University Hospital of North-Norway April, 2016 and January, 2021, were included in the study. The procedural indications for EFTD were therapeutic resection of non-lifting adenoma, T1 adenocarcinoma (AC), recurrent neuroendocrine tumor (NET) and re-excision of a T1-2 AC. Results EFTD rectal specimen histopathology revealed three ACs, five adenomas with high-grade dysplasia (HGD), one NET and one benign lesion. Six procedures had negative lateral and vertical resection margins and in three cases lateral margins could not be evaluated due to piece-meal dissection or heat damaged tissue. Two patients experienced delayed post-procedural hemorrhage, one of whom also presented with a concurrent post-procedural infection. No serious complications occurred. Conclusion Preliminary results from this introductory trial indicate that EFTD in the rectum can be conducted with satisfactory perioperative results and low risk of serious complications.

The homoclinic and heteroclinic intersections of the stable and unstable manifolds of the fixed and periodic points in the Poincaré maps of the periodically forced Brusselator have been studied by direct integration of the system using periodic-orbit following technique. Since the free limit cycle oscillator does not possess any saddle points where one may start the construction of invariant manifolds, one has to look into the Poincaré sections in the extended phase space with the time axis included. We have followed a series of homoclinic and heteroclinic crossings and the one-piece chaotic attractor appears to be the envelope of unstable manifolds of all orders.

Purpose – This paper aims to discuss the shifting purpose of the post-secondary institutions since the first-century founding, the fundamental changes in the mid-nineteenth century and the various factors pushing for competitive innovations and alternatives to the current institutions. Design/methodology/approach – This editorial piece is a cross-disciplinary critical analysis. Findings – Universities are faced with a series of disruptive innovations. While academia applies the theories of disruptive innovation to a variety of institutions, it is slow to turn these tools inward. Currently, this imperils the institution at all levels from groundskeepers of physical campuses to faculty and administrative personnel in virtual space. Knowledge is now fungible and transferable across geo/political boundaries. Originality/value – This is an original piece assessing the effects of the cost of knowledge acquisition asymptotically approaching zero on the institution that, at one time, was the gatekeeper and transmitter of such knowledge.

Abstract A boiler is one of the most significant components in a steam power plant system, as steam from the boiler is used to crank a steam turbine, which drives an electric generator. A sootblower is a piece of boiler equipment that cleans the ash and scale that has built up on the pipes. The heat-transfer pipes have been reduced. When soot builds up on the pipes or the riser on the boiler’s walls, heat transfer is impeded, resulting in less heat transfer. The amount of steam produced by the boiler will decrease if the heat transfer is lowered. Heat transfer is small in superheaters, reheaters, economizers, and air heaters, as well as in heat recovery regions like superheaters, reheaters, economizers, and air heaters. as well as the pipes for the superheater, reheater, economizer, and air heater As a result, the main objective of the sootblower is to analyze it so that lost energy in the boiler can be reduced. It also enhances the boiler’s efficiency once the sootblower has been employed.

READING over Elton's work afresh now, sadly, there will be no more, prompts a series of reflections. It is a great body of writing both in quality and quantity: but it is extremely narrow. Elton wrote about a remarkably short time range to which he repeatedly returned. He had little patience with Wolsey, no great interest in the history of the 1540s or 1550s and his excursion into the history of Elizabeth's earlier parliaments was not one which evidently brought him much pleasure. His first book established the reputation of Thomas Cromwell: one of his last pieces of writing considered how much or how little his view of Cromwell had changed, and the very last piece to be published was a defence of Cromwel from modern claims of corruption. It is hard to think of another major historian who has made so good a living from so short a temporal span. It is also striking how little of Elton's output is actually about politics: he was essentially a student of institutions and even ideas rather than of the interaction of men. His later interest in the law seems almost a rejection of politics.

This paper presents a review of the brooches from the cemetery of Opushki located in the central area of the Crimean foothills. The cemetery was used from the first century BC to the fourth century AD by peoples of various archaeological cultures. 72 of 318 graves excavated there contained brooches. The total number of complete and fragmented brooches discovered there is 190. The largest group comprises one-piece bow-shaped brooches with returned foot and the brooches with flattened catch-plate from the first to the first half of the third century AD. There is a series of brooches made in the Roman Empire, with the most numerous group of plate brooches. There are a few violin-bow-shaped brooches, highly-profiled brooches of the Northern Black Sea type, two-piece violin-bow-shaped brooches with returned foot, and brooches with curved arched bow (P-shaped): great many pieces of these types occurred at other sites from the Roman Period in the Crimean foothill area. In Opushki, brooches appeared in all types of burial constructions, and mostly in the Late Scythian vaults from the first century BC to the second century AD. They accompanied graves of women, men, and children. In the overwhelming majority of cases, one burial was accompanied with one and rarely two brooches; there is only one burial of a child with three clasps. Most often brooches occurred at the chest, in rare cases on the shoulder, near the cervical vertebrae, pelvic bones, or outside the skeleton. It is noteworthy that a great number of brooches was found in the burials of children of different ages, from 1- to 8-12-year-old. Apparently, brooches as a part of the child’s costume were used throughout the child’s life from the very infancy. Generally, the brooch types from the cemetery of Opushki, their distribution in the assemblages and location on the skeletons correspond to the general pattern typical of barbarian cemeteries in the Crimean foothill area dated to the Roman Period.

Despite the fact that Bruce Andrews's interests cut across different aesthetic media, with concepts from music, dance and film many times determining the formal and conceptual contours of his compositions, scholars most often examine the latter as bona fide works of poetry. In this essay, we will attend to and flesh out the significance of Andrews's dialogue with the medium of cinema in two chronologically distant works: Film Noir (1978) and Swoon Noir (2007). I will contend that while Andrews uses the noir, in the first book, to attack the sensorially disabling nature of immersive art, in the second one, the famed pulp genre functions as a grand metaphor through which the poet addresses the ineffectiveness of intentionally non-immersive avant-garde works, like his own 1978 piece, to carry out a much-promised perceptual and ethical awakening. There is, perhaps, in Andrews's view, an escapist element, very much like that which colours most detective pulp fiction and cinema, to innovative works that purport to be forward-thinking and transformative but end up promoting a feel-good mood of powerless rapture and amazement. In this piece, we fully flesh out Andrews's critique of the vanguard's ‘cinematic’ ambitions and assess the alternative ‘miniature’ aesthetics he proposes. Only by drawing out and bringing its innovations into focus, Andrews claims, will the avant-garde be able to rescue the transformative modes of experience it reveals from their dilution in sublime-soaked pulp poetics.

In this paper, an analytical technique, the so-called Fourier Spectral method (FSM), is extended to the vibration analysis of a rotating Rayleigh beam considering the gyroscopic effect. The model presented can have arbitrary boundary conditions specified in terms of elastic constraints in the translations and rotations or even in terms of attached lumped masses and inertias. Each displacement function is universally expressed as a linear combination of a standard Fourier cosine series and several supplementary functions introduced to ensure and accelerate the convergence of the series expansion. Lagrange's equation is established for all the unknown Fourier coefficients viewed as a set of independent generalized coordinates. A numerical model is constructed for the rotating beam. First, a numerical example considering simply supported boundary conditions at both ends is calculated and the results are compared with those of a published paper to show the accuracy and convergence of the proposed model. Then, the method is applied to one real work piece structure with elastically supported boundary conditions updated from the modal experiment results including both the frequencies and mode shapes using the method of least squares. Several numerical examples of the updated model are studied to show the effects of some parameters on the dynamic characteristics of the work piece subjected to moving loads at different constant velocities.

“When I was a kid, the elders in the village could tell the makam of a piece just by listening.” While interviewing performers, enthusiasts, and experts in traditional Turkish taksims (improvisations), variations of this comment were made many times. Some of the respondents claimed to be able to identify the makam of a taksim, but others believed that this ability might now be a lost art. This paper documents a series of experiments (based on caricaturized or skeletonized taksim-like creations) designed to determine if it is possible to identify the makam from purely acoustical features, and, when possible, to determine the relative importance of the various audible features that may be used to establish the makam. Two basic classes of features are investigated: perde (the set of pitches used in the performance) and seyir (which relates to temporal motion within the piece, for instance, repetitive or common motives or melodic contour). The experiments provide evidence that both kinds of features contribute to the ability to recognize makams. Experiments that randomize the order of events show that pitch cues (perde) are often adequate to allow accurate identification of the makam. In experiments where both pitch and temporal cues are present but conflict (for example, a piece in which the perde is chosen from one makam and the seyir from another), experts often favor the temporal information.

The focus of this study is an anonymous four-voice chanson of the early sixteenth century. On its own the piece is enigmatic at best, a densely contrapuntal arrangement of a simple monophonic song. The importance of Pastourelle jolie, however, transcends the apparent simplicity of these musical materials. Its ‘meanings’, according to this argument, are multiple, dwelling at once in the lyric traditions on which it draws, in its place in the history of French secular music around the year 1500, and in its important links with popular and aristocratic cultures of the day. This essay, therefore, reads and rereads this song in a series of related contexts. It dwells, for instance, upon the conventions of French pastoral poetry and the habits of composers who reworked the popular tunes with which songs like Pastourelle jolie are associated. But the piece has a highly specific meaning, too, one suggested by the only source to preserve this particular chanson and by the literary tastes of the ducal household that was its special audience.

This article delves upon Zimbabwe’s 2002 suspension from the Commonwealth of Nations and the relentless efforts of South Africa and other peers to get that suspension lifted, in the context of continuous rebuttals from states such as the UK and Australia. The research piece touches primarily upon the underlying motives for the said suspension, as well as the reasoning behind the bandwagoning of nations on the ongoing issues plaguing Zimbabwe in the early 2000s. Furthermore, it tangentially covers themes such as: the balance within the Commonwealth, global North versus South interpretations of democracy – and the realities they produce, and the rationale of two-sided post-colonial narratives. In our endeavour we have used a series of primary and secondary literary sources. Our conclusion is that South Africa gave primacy to its own foreign policy objectives, and thereby, allowed democracy to continue to disintegrate in Zimbabwe. Our research piece purposefully lacks the classical structure one might expect, for we consider that the chosen style of organizing information best befits the general public and specialized reads alike.

Three pseudophakic patients presented with recurrent, unilateral vitreous hemorrhage, one of which also had uveitis, glaucoma, and hyphema, consistent with “uveitis–glaucoma–hyphema (UGH)-Plus” syndrome. Arcuate transillumination defects secondary to inadvertent placement of 1 intraocular lens (IOL) haptic in the sulcus were identified in each case. The second haptic and optic were located in the capsular bag. The IOLs were all single-piece foldable acrylic lenses with square-edge haptic design. Surgical repositioning of the malpositioned haptic from the sulcus to the retrocapsular space resulted in the resolution of the recurrent vitreous hemorrhage. This series highlights the fact that recurrent vitreous hemorrhage secondary to iris chafing, with or without UGH, may occur in cases where a square-edge IOL haptic is placed in the sulcus. Vitrectomy with repositioning of the malpositioned IOL is a simple alternative to IOL exchange in these cases.

We initiated this series with a view to catalyse and extend the focus on conceptualisation and application of behavioural science methods for managing innovation, albeit from a whole human perspective. We started with the notion that how to increase individual (human) creativity, collaboration productivity and innovativeness in innovation projects is a common concern for most firms. After discussions on the brain-mind-behaviour triad in the beginning, the interim editorial highlighted behavioural experiments as one plausible method to further the science of managing for innovation. In this final piece on the series, we conclude with a caveat on using experimental methods in examining the human side of innovation (Salampasis and Mention 2017) and discuss avenues for future research in innovation management, which increasingly reflects a collaborative affair (Bogers et al., 2017; Heil and Bornemann 2018). The article was created on the grounds of numerical modelling of shaped charges with a focus on the unconventional shape of their liners. The standard shaped charge of the “deep penetrating” type is equipped with a conical liner made of copper. Three various geometries of shaped charges featuring unconventional shape have been modelled and compared with the classical model of a shaped charge. The shaped charges have been compared for maximum pressure during detonation, cumulative jet velocity, kinetic energy gained and length of cumulative jet after 22 µs. The purpose of modelling shaped charges, featuring unconventionally formed liners, was to check whether they are able to improve the perforation job parameters in oil and gas wells. Perforation of the borehole is a critical job, enabling the initiation of hydrocarbons production from a specific reservoir. The job consists in making series of channels perpendicular to the borehole axis, penetrating casing walls, the cement layer and the formation rock, in order to create a hydraulic link between the borehole and the reservoir of hydrocarbons. In the oil industry, the “deep penetrating” type shaped charges are designed in order to provide optimal length of the perforation channel, while maintaining its adequate perforating diameter. Nowadays, the most commonly deep-penetrating shaped charges used, are the axially-symmetric shaped charges with conical liners made of copper powders. The charges create a cumulative jet reaching a velocity of approx. 7000 m/sec and are able to penetrate up to 1 m of rock matrix in favourable conditions. The article describes the parameters of shaped charges, that have been obtained as a result of numerical modelling. In order to finally confirm the target penetrating ability by the modelled shaped charges, one should check their real physical models in fire-ground conditions.

The purpose of this clinical series was to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes of 20 zirconia dental implants, with a minimum follow-up of two years. Patients with at least one zirconia dental implant were included, with a mean follow-up of 34.05 months. The patient complaints such as pain and foreign body sensation, as well as clinical parameters including peri-implant infections with suppuration, implant mobility, gingival index (GI), modified plaque index (mPI), modified sulcus bleeding index (mBI), probing depth (PD) and radiological distance between the implant shoulder to the closest mesial and distal bone-to-implant contact (BIC), were assessed. All zirconia implants were successfully integrated without any pain or foreign body sensation. No mobility was detected in any of the 20 implants. Clinical examination revealed a mean PD of 2.56 mm and a radiological mean distance between the implant shoulder and the initial site of visible bone-to-implant contact (BIC) of 1.44 mm. In addition, GI, mPI and mBI indicated minimal to no inflammation. Results obtained from this series suggest that one-piece zirconia dental implants achieve good clinical and radiographic outcomes over a mean follow-up of 34 months and may be deemed a good option in patients with favorable bone conditions.

The relationship of jazz and theatre, as the articles in this issue demonstrate, is a complex one. The three reviews featured here speak to some of the diverse influences jazz, and the community it comes out of, has on contemporary theatre. Kate Bligh’s review discusses a collaborative work created for the Montreal International Jazz Festival by one of Canada’s best known men of the theatre, Robert Lepage, in collaboration with musician Peter Gabriel. Her description of the piece, which took place in a cabaret setting reminiscent of the early jazz scene, demonstrates the affinity of Lepage’s creation techniques with the jazz process of improvising to create multiple variations on well-known motifs. In the end though, Bligh wonders why Lepage’s use of these techniques yielded a series of images that, taken together, had only limited impact. Why, she asks, did the transitions between scenes sometimes seem more interesting than the scenes themselves? Was the technology overwhelming the liveness of the onstage performers? Or was there a more serious problem here, a problem that is perhaps evidenced in directorial choices that emphasized the formal qualities of the piece over its social meanings, as in a sequence where a monkey and a Zulu warrior seem to be presented as virtual stand-ins for each other?
