En 2009, l’adoption par le Parlement européen, à la quasi-unanimité, d’une résolution demandant une politique communautaire de la « wilderness », et les débats afférents menés sous les présidences tchèque et belge ont révélé au grand jour une nouvelle sensibilité découlant de l’élargissement à l’Est de l’Union européenne. Mais ceci a été rendu possible par un grand nombre d’initiatives convergentes prises depuis la fin des années 1990 par des associations à visée européenne, travaillant de manière plus ou moins articulée avec la Commission européenne. C’est un long processus, de plus en plus actif et structuré, qui a conduit à ce que la stratégie européenne pour la biodiversité, adoptée en 2020, promeut la protection stricte de toutes les forêts relictuelles qualifiées de « old growth and primary forests » en anglais. La France n’a pas été active au niveau européen sur ce sujet, mais il est néanmoins possible d’y voir lentement monter l’intérêt pour ce sujet depuis les années 1990, mais avec une sensibilité propre.

Berkembangnya teknologi dan informasi membuat perusahaan harus siap dengan penjualan online. Demikian juga dengan Hotel Grand Q Gorontalo. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui preferensi konsumen yang lebih memilih traveloka sebagai OTA di hotel Grand Q Gorontalo. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah Mengapa konsumen lebih memilih Traveloka sebagai situs pemesanan kamar di hotel Grand Q Gorontalo dan Manakah jenis Atribut produk yang paling berpengaruh terhadap keputusan pembelian aplikasi traveloka pada konsumen yang pernah menginap di Grand Q Hotel Gorontalo. Penelitian ini menggunakan jenis penelitian kuantitatif, prosedur pengumpulan data yang diperoleh melalui pengumpulan angket/kuesioner, observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan studi pustaka, sumber data diperoleh dari data primer dan sekunder. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian bahwa atribut produk ( Merek, Desain Produk, Kualitas Produk dan Harga) berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keputusan pembelian voucher hotel melalui aplikasi traveloka di Hotel Grand Q. Atribut yang paling berpengaruh terhadap keputusan pembelian konsumen pada voucher traveloka yaitu kualitas produk dengan kontribusi atau pilihan jawaban ya 78 responden.

The so called grand spaces nowadays are one of the main objects in the theory of function spaces. Grand Lebesgue spaces were introduced by T. Iwaniec and C. Sbordone in the case of sets $\Omega$ with finite measure $|\Omega|<\infty$, and by the authors in the case $|\Omega|=\infty$. The latter is based on introduction of the notion of grandizer. The idea of "grandization" was also applied in the context of Morrey spaces. In this paper we develop the idea of grandization to more general Morrey spaces $L^{p,q,w}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, known as Morrey type spaces. We introduce grand Morrey type spaces, which include mixed and partial grand versions of such spaces. The mixed grand space is defined by the norm $$ \sup_{\varepsilon,\delta} \varphi(\varepsilon,\delta)\sup_{x\in E} \left(\int\limits_{0}^{\infty}{w(r)^{q-\delta}}b(r)^{\frac{\delta}{q}} \left(\,\int\limits_{|x-y|<r}\big|f(y)\big|^{p-\varepsilon} a(y)^{\frac{\varepsilon}{p}}\,dy\right)^{\frac{q-\delta}{p-\varepsilon}} \frac{dr}{r}\right)^{\frac{1}{q-\varepsilon}} $$ with the use of two grandizers $a$ and $b$. In the case of grand spaces, partial with respect to the exponent $q$, we study the boundedness of some integral operators. The class of these operators contains, in particular, multidimensional versions of Hardy type and Hilbert operators.

Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian survei. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan observasi, angket dan studi dokumentasi, dengan sasaran segmentasi geografis, demografis, dan psikografis. Mencermati hasil penelitian tentang segmentasi pasar pada Hotel Grand Q Gorontalo ini dengan karakteristik pengunjung hotel sebagaimana digambarkan di atas, maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa wisatawan yang memilih untuk menginap di Hotel Grand Q Gorontalo mayoritas merupakan pebisnis dengan fluktuasi jumlah pengunjung yang tergantung pada intensitas event penting yang diselenggarakan di Provinsi Gorontalo. Oleh karena itu disarankan sebaiknya Hotel Grand Q Gorontalo senantiasa melakukan analisis pasar secara efektif sehingga dapat menentukan strategi segmentasi pasar yang tepat, serta melakukan inovasi yang diarahkan pada peningkatan kualitas pengelolaan dan pelayanan.</p>

Selain dampak pandemi terhadap penjualan, Grand Dafam Q Hotel Banjarbaru juga tertinggal dari para kompetitornya dalam hal harga dan promosi, menurut data responden.Untuk mengatasi tantangan ini, hotel menerapkan strategi bauran pemasaran, yang mencakup 7P: product, price, place, promotion, people, physical evidence, and process. Mengevaluasi elemen-elemen ini sangat penting dalam mempengaruhi perilaku dan niat pembelian konsumen.Tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji dampak dari harga dan promosi terhadap keputusan konsumen untuk menginap di Grand Dafam Q Hotel Banjarbaru. Since the grand partition function Zq for the so-called q-particles (i.e., quons), q∈(−1,1), cannot be computed by using the standard 2nd quantisation technique involving the full Fock space construction for q=0, and its q-deformations for the remaining cases, we determine such grand partition functions in order to obtain the natural generalisation of the Plank distribution to q∈[−1,1]. We also note the (non) surprising fact that the right grand partition function concerning the Boltzmann case (i.e., q=0) can be easily obtained by using the full Fock space 2nd quantisation, by considering the appropriate correction by the Gibbs factor 1/n! in the n term of the power series expansion with respect to the fugacity z. As an application, we briefly discuss the equations of the state for a gas of free quons or the condensation phenomenon into the ground state, also occurring for the Bose-like quons q∈(0,1).

L’intervention relationnelle est particulièrement adaptée pour répondre aux cas de négligence car elle repose sur les réactions de l’enfant comme guide pour ajuster les comportements parentaux. Grâce au visionnement commenté de courts échanges filmés entre l’enfant et son parent, ce dernier peut, avec l’aide de l’intervenant, apprendre à repérer le caractère plus ou moins sensible de ses agissements (ou absence d’agissements) à travers les réponses de l’enfant. Pour rendre le parent réceptif aux observations de l’intervenant, celui-ci veille à identifier et souligner les comportements positifs et adaptés qu’il présente, renforçant ainsi leur fréquence d’apparition et lui permettant de développer un plus grand sentiment de compétence et une meilleure compréhension des besoins de son enfant. Cet article vise à présenter le programme d’intervention relationnelle, sa structure et ses cibles. Cette présentation est illustrée par une vignette clinique. Ce programme a été évalué dans le cadre d’une recherche-action, fondée sur un essai randomisé contrôlé, menée en France auprès de familles suivies par les services de protection de l’enfance. De telles pratiques professionnelles révèlent une amélioration significative des comportements des parents et des enfants par rapport à l’intervention habituelle.

La démonstration de l’efficacité des soins basés sur le recontact, comme l’observation qu’un geste suicidaire suit régulièrement un événement de vie stressant, notamment dans le domaine social, suggèrent que les stress sociaux conduisant à l’exclusion sociale occupent un rôle central dans la survenue des conduites suicidaires. Les nouvelles technologies de la communication, à l’aide de Smartphones, permettent l’évaluation in vivo des patients à risque suicidaire. Non seulement, l’évaluation répétée du risque suicidaire dans l’environnement naturel du sujet n’est pas délétère pour les sujets, mais en outre, ce type d’innovation apporte des informations de grand intérêt pour suivre les séquences environnementales conduisant à la génération des idées de suicide. Ainsi, nous avons observé dans une étude d’évaluation écologique instantanée que les stress sociaux et eux-seuls, prédisent la survenue ultérieure d’idées de suicide. Ainsi, les individus vulnérables au suicide pourraient être particulièrement sensibles au stress sociaux. À ce titre, les études d’imagerie cérébrale démontrent l’existence d’anomalies cérébrales chez les suicidants lors de paradigmes d’exclusion sociale. Par ailleurs, les études récentes avancent la possibilité d’une inflammation chronique modérée dans les conduites suicidaires. Ainsi, divers marqueurs de l’inflammation, dont la CRP plasmatique et les taux de cytokines centraux et périphériques ont été associés aux conduites suicidaires. Il se trouve que les stress sociaux sont des inducteurs particulièrement puissants de cytokines pro-inflammatoires, en faisant intervenir des régions cérébrales également impliquées dans la vulnérabilité suicidaire (insula antérieure, cortex cingulaire antérieur). Nous formulons l’hypothèse que les sujets vulnérables aux conduites suicidaires présenteraient une réponse inflammatoire et algique exagérée aux stress sociaux.

The concept of Lebesgue space has been generalized to the grand Lebesgue space with non-weight and weight, and the classical Lorentz space concept has been generalized to grand Lorentz spaces with a similar logic. In this study, instead of using rearrangement for a measurable function, weighted Grand Lorentz spaces are defined by using the maximal function 1<=p, q<=∞ where the weight function is measurable, complex valued, and locally bounded. In addition, multiplication operators on weighted grand Lorentz spaces are defined and the fundamental properties of these operators such as boundedness, closed range, invertibility, compactness, and closedness are characterized.

We show that in the range exp{(log log x)5/3+ɛ} ⩽ y ⩽ x and on average over q ⩽ x/M with M → ∞ of moderate size, this average error term is asymptotic to −|a| Ψ(x/|a|, y)/2x. Previous results of this sort were obtained by the second author for reasonably dense sequences, however the sequence of y-friable integers studied in the current paper is thin, and required the use of different techniques, which are specific to friable integers.

L’oeuvre du peintre américain Richard Diebenkorn se partage en trois périodes. Durant la première, il pratique une peinture expressionniste abstraite influencée par la topographie et le coloris des régions où il peint, de sorte qu’on a pu la considérer comme une pratique allusive du paysage. Ensuite, pendant dix ans, Richard Diebenkorn est figuratif. Enfin il invente une peinture claire de grand format qui, récusant toute ressemblance directe avec les paysages naturels, se préoccupe essentiellement d’espace et de lumière et touche la sensibilité en cet “arrière-pays” où, dit Yves Bonnefoy, se découvre “le surcroît de l’être dans l’intensité de ses apparences”. Pour ces effets esthétiques et esthésiques cette peinture dernière de Richard Diebenkorn peut être considérée comme peinture de paysages virtuels.

In the framework of four-dimensional heterotic superstring with free fermions, we investigate the rank 8 grand unified string theories (GUST’s) which contain the SU(3) H gauge family symmetry. GUST’s of this type accommodate naturally the three fermion families presently observed and, moreover, can describe the fermion mass spectrum without high-dimensional representations of conventional unification groups. We explicitly construct GUST’s with gauge symmetry G= SU(5) × U(1) ×[ SU(3) × U(1) ]H ⊂ SO (16) in free complex fermion formulation. As the GUST’s originating from Kac-Moody algebras (KMA’s) contain only low-dimensional representations, it is usually difficult to break the gauge symmetry. We solve this problem by taking for the observable gauge symmetry the diagonal subgroup G sym of the rank 16 group G×G ⊂ SO(16) × SO(16) ⊂ E(8)×E(8). Such a construction effectively corresponds to a level 2 KMA, and therefore some higher-dimensional representations of the diagonal subgroup appear. This (due to G×G tensor Higgs fields) allows one to break GUST symmetry down to SU (3c)× U(1) em . In this approach the observed electromagnetic charge Q em can be viewed as a sum of two Q I and Q II charges of each G group. In this case, below the scale where G×G breaks down to G sym the spectrum does not contain particles with exotic fractional charges.

Based on a recent study of the statistical mechanical properties of the q-modified boson oscillators, we develop the statistical mechanics of the q-modified boson gas, in particular the Grand Partition Function. We derive the various thermodynamic functions for the q-boson gas including the entropy, pressure and specific heat. We demonstrate that the gas exhibits a phase transition analogous to ordinary bose condensation. We derive the equation of state and develop the virial expansion for the equation of state. Several interesting properties of the q-boson gas are derived and compared with those of the ordinary boson which may point to the physical relevance of such systems.

Cette recherche a permis de constater que les Trifluviens en général manifestent un grand respect des prescriptions religieuses; qu'ils ont cependant un taux de cpn supérieur à celui des autres populations québécoises étudiées; que cet indice croît lentement au cours des années 1850-1900 et fait un bond au xxe siècle avec l'accélération de l'urbanisation; que la diminution de l'indice cpn en fin de période n'est pas due à une transformation des mœurs mais à la hausse des naissances illégitimes; que ce sont les populations ouvrières les plus pauvres et les moins bien intégrées à la structure paroissiale qui présentent un taux supérieur de cpn et conséquemment manifestent le moins de sensibilité aux enseignements catholiques.

Abstract. Analysis of short sediment cores collected in Grand Lake, Labrador, revealed that this lake is an excellent candidate for the preservation of a laminated sediment record. The great depth of Grand Lake, the availability of fine sediments along its tributaries and its important seasonal river inflow have favoured the formation of a 160-year-long clastic varved sequence. Each varve represents 1 hydrological year. Varve formation is mainly related to spring discharge conditions with contributions from summer and autumn rainfall events. The statistically significant relation between varve parameters and the Naskaupi River discharge observations provided the opportunity to develop local hydrological reconstructions beyond the instrumental period. The combined detrital layer thickness and the particle size (99th percentile) series extracted from each varve yield the strongest correlations with instrumental data (r=0.68 and 0.75 respectively) and have been used to reconstruct the respective Naskaupi River mean and maximum annual discharges over the 1856–2016 period. The reconstructed Q-mean series suggest that high Q-mean years occurred during the 1920–1960 period, and a slight decrease in Q-mean took place during the second half of the 20th century. Independent reconstructions based on rainfall–runoff modelling of the watershed from historical reanalysis of global geopotential height fields display a significant correlation with the reconstructed Naskaupi River discharge based on varve physical parameters. The Grand Lake varved sequence contains a regional hydrological signal, as suggested by the statistically significant relation between the combined detrital layer thickness series and the observed Labrador region Q-mean series extracted from five watersheds of different sizes.

Metode penelitian jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah jenis penelitian kuantitatif. Populasi tidak diketahui dalam jumlah yang pasti (infinity). Penggunaan teknik sampel yang di pilih adalah penarikan sampel Accidental Sampling. Metode Pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner jumlah sebanyak 96 responden. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis regresi linear berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fasilitas berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap keputusan menginap. Sedangkan lokasi berpengaruh positif namun tidak signifikan terhadap keputusan menginap di Grand Q Hotel Kota Gorontalo. Saran sebaiknya manajemen hotel senantiasa memperhatikan fasilitas hotel karena sebagian pengunjung merasakan bahwa fasilitas yang tersedia masih perlu ditingkatkan dan diperbaiki, serta pentingnya lokasi parkir yang luas.Kata Kunci: Fasilitas, Lokasi, Hotel

Zero Delta Q Policy is a “flood caution” concept by applying flood’s runoff restrictions as a result of the development, which the difference between before and after runoff debit has to be zero. Based on the analyzing report, there are some chsnnel precast available to use for Drainage System 1 : Box Culvert size 200x150x100 cm ; Box Culvert size 120x120x100 cm ; Uditch + Cover size 50x50x120 cm and Drainage System 2 : Box Culvert size 120x150x100 cm; Box Culvert size 100x100x100 cm ; Uditch + Cover size 40x50x120 cm. Fulfilling the “Zero Delta Q” concept, the design of boezem had volume of 7.182,47 m3 which is larger than the requirements at 7.181,925 m3 and floodgates on drainage system.

In the development of an organization, culture is the most important variable thataffects the implementation of organizational operation, because it’s culture may stimulate the job satisfaction of its human resource which in turn affects the achievement of the organization’s goals.Therefore, the objective of the research was to find out the conditions of both organizational culture and job satisfaction of employees at Grand Q Hotel Gorontalo. The research method used was a descriptive-quantitative survey method by a sample of 55 employees at Grand Q Hotel Gorontalo. The research used a multiple linear regression analysis. The research result showed that, simultaneously, organizational culture has a strong influence by 94.3% on job satisfaction (Y), the remaining 5.7% being the contribution of other variables beyond the current research. That is, the stronger culture, the higher job satisfaction will be. In contrary, the weaker culture, the lower job satisfaction will be.

The formulas for the first law of thermodynamics and the thermodynamic quantities in the terms of ensemble averages were obtained in a general form. It was found that under the transformation q → 2 – q the probabilities of microstates of the nonextensive statistics based on the Landsberg-Vedral entropy with the standard expectation values formally resemble the corresponding probabilities of the Tsallis statistics with the generalized expectation values.

We study the the high-temperature thermodynamic properties of the q-deformed fermion gas model by taking into account of the size effect of the gas particles. Starting from the logarithm of the grand partition function of the model, we calculate several thermodynamic functions of the model such as internal energy, entropy, and Helmholtz free energy by means of the deformation parameter q. Furthermore, the influences of the fermionic q-deformation on the thermosize effect in the confined deformed quantum gas systems such as the Seebeck-like and Peltier-like thermosize effects are discussed. Especially, we focus on the absorbed or released heat of the model in the Peltier-like thermosize effect. In the light of the results obtained in this work, we can conclude that the present q-deformed fermion model can be used to desing the new types of the micro-/nano-scaled quantum heat engines.

L’exposition d’animaux d’élevage à une alimentation contaminée par les mycotoxines démontre l’effet de ces contaminants naturels sur les performances zootechniques et la qualité des produits d’origine animale. Chez le porc, l’aflatoxine B1 la fumonisine B1 et le déoxynivalénol altèrent la réponse du système immunitaire avec de possibles conséquences en termes de sensibilité aux infections. Ces mêmes toxines modifient l’activité des enzymes hépatiques de biotransformation, ce qui pourrait perturber le devenir ou l’efficacité de dérivés xénobiotiques ou endogènes. Chez la volaille, de fortes expositions alimentaires aux fumonisines, en limite des seuils de tolérance européens pour le maïs, entraînent des pertes de production chez les canards et les dindes. De plus, des résidus tissulaires de cette mycotoxine ont été détectés dans le tissu hépatique ou rénal de ces deux espèces. Chez les ruminants, les mycotoxines des fourrages secs ou ensilés comme la gliotoxine, la patuline, la roquefortine C ou l’acide mycophénolique perturbent les capacités fermentaires du rumen. Enfin, des résidus d’aflatoxines ou d’ochratoxine A ont été détectés dans le lait de grand mélange. Toutefois, les teneurs mesurées demeurent inférieures aux seuils réglementaires européens.

Signaler la valeur des entreprises est un enjeu majeur pour les nouveaux entrepreneurs et investisseurs. En raison du grand nombre et de la diversité des inventions et des innovations développées, nous étudions la capacité des brevets à promouvoir les innovations clés et à générer des opportunités d’investissement financier. En nous appuyant sur un ensemble complet de données comprenant des informations détaillées sur 142 669 brevets européens demandés et détenus par des entreprises américaines, nous mettons en évidence la sensibilité du marché financier aux signaux potentiels émis par les brevets accordés au cours de leur cycle de vie en utilisant la méthodologie de l’étude d’événements. Notre recherche apporte des contributions significatives au débat et aux connaissances actuelles sur le sujet. La principale contribution réside dans l’examen des événements pertinents se produisant tout au long du cycle de vie des brevets ainsi que dans leur impact sur l’évaluation financière des sociétés détentrices. La contribution méthodologique consiste en l’utilisation de la méthodologie d’étude des événements pour les actifs intellectuels. Enfin, des recommandations managériales sont proposées sur la base de nos résultats.

AbstractWe study the discrete flows generated by the symmetry group of the BPS quivers for Calabi–Yau geometries describing five-dimensional superconformal quantum field theories on a circle. These flows naturally describe the BPS particle spectrum of such theories and at the same time generate bilinear equations of q-difference type which, in the rank one case, are q-Painlevé equations. The solutions of these equations are shown to be given by grand canonical topological string partition functions which we identify with $$\tau $$ τ -functions of the cluster algebra associated to the quiver. We exemplify our construction in the case corresponding to five-dimensional SU(2) pure super Yang–Mills and $$N_f=2$$ N f = 2 on a circle.

Treatments with organic manure, inorganic fertilizers and their combinations showed significant differences for fruit yield and yield attributing traits. Among the treatments, application of 20 t FYM/ha along with full dose of recommended NPK i.e. 150:60:60 kg NPK / ha recorded the highest fruit yield of 428.32 and 530.55 q/ha during the year 2002 and 2003, respectively with grand mean fruit yield of 479.43 q/ha. This treatment was on par with 40 tonnes FYM + 1/2 dose of recommended NPK during 2002 and 2003, which recorded mean fruit yield of 456.17 q/ ha. Both these treatments were significantly superior to recommended inorganic NPK fertilizer treatment (435.57 q/ha) as well as to application of different doses of organic manure alone such as FYM and green manure, indicating that integration of both organic manures and inorganic fertilizers are important for obtaining higher fruit yield in tomato. Addition of organic manure besides having favourable effect on crop yield was also found to be better in maintaining soil health and growth of succeeding crop.

L’espoir de tout rapprochement significatif avec Moscou s’étant progressivement éteint et les démocraties populaires n’ayant pas vraiment donné suite aux appels du pied de Paris, la diplomatie française a jeté son dévolu sur Belgrade. Ce mariage de raison, alors que son cœur l’entraînait beaucoup plus vers Varsovie, Bucarest ou Prague, offre au Général le cadre confortable d’une concordance de vue objective entre la France et la Yougoslavie sur de nombreux dossiers internationaux majeurs. La relation franco-yougoslave devient ainsi le grand bénéficiaire, un peu fortuitement, des déconvenues françaises à l’Est, et notamment de l’invasion de la Tchécoslovaquie, de la sensibilité très peu gaullienne de Gomulka et des aspirations très solitaires de Ceaucescu. Josip Broz Tito retrouve ainsi grâce aux yeux du héros de la Résistance française, parce que la Fédération yougoslave est le seul pays socialiste avec lequel la France peut finalement réaliser son rêve de détente-entente-coopération. La diplomatie yougoslave voit Belgrade se muer en partenaire privilégié contre toute attente mais en dernière instance l’ambition ultime de Charles de Gaulle demeure la réconciliation de toutes les nations européennes, de l’Atlantique à l’Oural.

Finally, the authors characterize these spaces by anisotropic atomic decompositions. Dans le cadre de ses marchés de travaux publics d’infrastructures, la Société du Grand Paris (SGP) travaille sur l’amélioration de la prise en compte des enjeux de développement durable dans son analyse des offres reçues. À cette fin, elle compte introduire des critères de jugement des offres, reposant sur l’évaluation des performances environnementales au travers principalement de trois thématiques : la gestion circulaire des déblais, le transport et le bilan carbone. Le présent travail porte spécifiquement sur la première thématique, au regard des volumes de déblais générés pour la réalisation du projet du Grand Paris Express. Le critère de la circularité des déblais a été conçu par l’examen des exigences réglementaires sur les facteurs qui déterminent la meilleure offre en termes d’externalités négatives liées à la gestion des déblais. Il tient compte non seulement de la vision du candidat sur l’économie circulaire, mais aussi des mesures réelles que prend celui-ci en faveur de l’économie circulaire. Une attention particulière a été accordée à la cohérence de la méthode proposée avec les moyens existants de suivi en phase travaux. L’examen de l’impact de l’indice de circularité sur les coûts de gestion des déblais a démontré sa sensibilité aux différentes solutions de gestion que peut choisir l’entreprise au stade de l’offre. Pour les cinq scénarios étudiés, l’augmentation de l’indice de circularité s’est traduite par une baisse systématique des coûts de gestion, jusqu’à l’atteinte d’une réduction de 47 % par rapport au scénario de référence. A contrario, le taux de valorisation peut occulter les efforts des candidats à privilégier les solutions les plus vertueuses et économiquement avantageuses. En effet, on a pu observer dans cette étude des écarts de coûts de gestion de l’ordre de 10 % avec des scénarios présentant des taux de valorisation identiques.

RÉSUMÉLe sujet du grand voyage de la vie est un exemple riche et intéressant de l'érudition en matière de gérontologie. Ce « voyage » dont parle l'auteur fait état de l'évolution de la signification du vieillissement en Amérique depuis la fin du Moyen-Age jusqu'à la fin du XXe siècle. Les différents sens qui lui ont été donnés sont abordés selon les niveaux de discours cosmique, social et individuel. Bien que les références de Cole proviennent exclusivement du nord de l'Europe et d'Amérique, une grande partie de l'ouvrage est pertinente à la culture canadienne, au développement de la gérontologie canadienne et aux conceptions canadiennes du vieillissement. Le principal argument de Cole est que la synthèse de la signification du vieillissement s'est graduellement érodée au fil du temps. À l'époque de la colonisation américaine, les puritains reliaient les trois niveaux de signification du vieillissement au résultat d'une vision complète du voyage humain, lequel comprenait un « abandon » à la nature et à Dieu. Vers la fin de l'époque victorienne et à l'aube du XXe siècle, Cole explique comment la mort, et avec elle, une notion saine du vieillissement, en sont venues à disparaître du scénario du grand voyage. Selon Cole, un vestige de cette moralité dite « civilisée » face au vieillissement datant de la fin de l'ère victorienne nous suit encore aujourd'hui, en ce que la pensée de notre époque est réflétée par des métaphores sur la gestion et le contrôle scientifique du vieillissement. Il manque une préoccupation et une sensibilité à l'endroit des dimensions existentielles du voyage de la vie. L'épilogue du livre aborde cette forme plus introspective de la gérontologie et laisse entendre que son importance et son intérêt iront en grandissant avec la fin de notre monde post-moderne.

An age-structured, spatial survey-based assessment model (SSURBA) is developed and applied to the Grand Banks stock (NAFO Divisions 3LNO) of American plaice (Hippoglossoides platessoides) in Newfoundland and Labrador. The state-space model is fit to annual spatial (i.e., three divisions) stock size-at-age research vessel (RV) survey indices that are assumed to be proportional to abundance. We model index catchability (q) as a logistic function of fish length, which varies with age, cohort, and the time of the survey; therefore, the model facilitates the estimation of q values that change spatially and temporally following changes in fish growth and survey gears. The SSURBA model produces division-level estimates of fishing mortality rates (F), stock productivity, and stock size relative to the logistic catchability assumption with q = 1 for fully selected ages. The spatial model allows us to include additional survey information compared with the space-aggregated assessment model (all of 3LNO) that is currently used to assess stock status. The model can provide estimates of relative catch, which we compare with reported catch trends to partially validate the model.
