Testo completoThe aging of the French population is a well- known topic but its effects are more important than is usually thought. The dwelling, the urban living habits, the services and amenities have to be adapted to seniors. The geographer tackles the problem through the relation of elder people to their living territory by using scientific tools provided by environmental psychology, and by referring to medical data. This research work has been made at the professional request of ICADE, one of the leading estate developers in France. The author applies very concrete methods, such as the use of mental maps and GPS trackers, so as to grasp the needs of seniors as accurately as possible. Several experiments have been conducted, at different scales and in different surroundings -Lyon and the Rhône-Alpes region, the Paris region, and also the city of Nice. The third part of the study consists in reflecting on the governance that would be the most efficient to implement the “gerontopôles” (structures associating geriatrics, medical and social care and gerontology)

Testo completoAs a psychologist in an EHPAD (a regulated home for dependent seniors), I became very much aware of the auxiliary nurses’ psychological sufferings. Listening to them during my team-supporting mission, I heard a recurring complaint emerge, that of an egotistical deficit of emotional and affective disinvestment and of a lack of recognition of the painfulness of their task. This has led me to hypothesize professional exhaustion. The research in this thesis therefore focuses on the burn out syndrome. It studies the complex relations between the auxiliary nurses as medico-social staff and the health manager in charge as well as between the elderly person and his/her daughter.A clinical questionnaire highlighted the depth of the subjective feeling of exhaustion while Louise Lemyre’s standardized scale highlighted the depth of the subjective feeling of stress, an operational notion in the theoretical concept of burn out.The analysis of both feelings revealed the complex relations between patient-auxiliary nurse and manager as well as between daughter-mother and grandmother. The narcissism at stake with the staff reactivates the archaic origins if child sexuality in the nursing place. A t the same time, because of the general feminization of the profession, the specificity of the feminine psyche is of foremost importance. Thanks to this notion, the research paper aims to shed a different light on the intermediary position of the manager. The status of good or bad mother figure that auxiliary nurses grant her worsens or lessens the burn out and stress.Last, this research paper further insists on the absolute necessity of permanent institutional training and of psychic elaborative work for the staff at regular intervals

Taiwan’s National Pension Act started operation in October 2008, signifying the end of the transitional Senior (Citizens) Welfare Living Allowance. However, in the literature regarding Senior Welfare Living Allowance, we have found so many who were benefited by this policy. A heated debate therefore triggered among the welfare advocates, opponents who are against fiscal burden, people with doubts about the national pension system, different political ideologies towards benefits, and other similar social allowances (Senior Farmer Welfare Allowance or Living Allowance for Middle or Low-income Senior Citizens) whose nationwide establishment came much later (not until June, 2002). This study conducts literature review on the legislative process of Senior Welfare Living Allowance, and cited the Spicker’s policy analysis (2006), to delve into the legislative aspect, the relationship between practice and such aspect, and other related issues of Senior Welfare Living Allowance.

The senior citizens welfare living allowance originated from the elder allowances from local governments in 1990’s , and it became the national policy in 2002.Then, in 2008 when National Pension Insurance came into effect, the senior citizens welfare living allowance was integrated into the pension system. This study investigates the effect of the senior citizens welfare living allowance on private transfer and consumption among the elderly living alone with different income groups, and also investigates the difference between the local government and central government execution period. Analyzing the family income and expenditure survey in 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, and 2006, there are four findings in this study. The first, the senior citizens welfare living allowance will reduce the net private transfer among the one-person elderly household with all income groups, and the lower the income is, the more net private transfer decreases. The second, the senior citizens welfare living allowance will only increase the consumption among the middle and high-income one-person elderly household, and the more the income is, the more consumption increases. The third, compared with the local government execution period, the senior citizens welfare living allowance leads to bigger differences in private transfer and consumption among one-person elderly household within different income groups in central government execution period. The last, the senior citizens welfare living allowance cannot enhance the well-being of low-income one-person elderly household.

Since the amendment of Senior Citizen Welfare Law in 1997, small-scale private welfare organizations have been permitted to run without the registration as a foundation. Senior citizens welfare organizations, once dominated by the government, thus regained their market functions, and various kinds of organizations have been instituted ever since. In a review of studies related to senior citizen welfare organizations, it was discovered that differences in the management of senior citizen welfare organizations in Taoyuan County has not been investigated so far. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the current management and development of senior citizen welfare organizations in Taoyuan County and probe into the differences in the management of organizations at different institutional scales. The study further applied the differences to construct management models of senior citizen welfare organizations in Taoyuan County and provide contributive suggestions and feasible opinions to managers of these organizations, so as to enhance the service quality of senior citizen welfare organizations in Taoyuan County. According to legal regulations and current operations of senior citizen welfare organizations, the senior citizen welfare organizations in Taoyuan County were classified into large-scale organizations, medium-scale organizations, and small-scale organizations. Based on the qualitative research method, this study conducted semi-structural in-depth interviews with the managers of 8 organizations and administrators in the County Government. Based on the collected data, the current management of these organizations was analyzed, and related theories were applied to examine the internal and external interactions of these organizations. The research findings showed significant differences in the management of organizations at different institutional scales, and the sense of mission is the major factor for the differences in the management. Whether having sufficient resources or not, managers with a strong sense of mission would succeed in their management. If managers of these welfare organizations had insufficient sense of mission, even provided with sufficient resources, the quality of their organizations is still normal. When their sense of mission is absent, and resources are insufficient, the provided service quality will be the worst. In addition to the sense of mission, resource, professional ability, and innovative capability are secondary factors for the differences in the management. For the construction of management models, it was induced that (1) small-scale organizations are mainly based on ideal, sense of mission, and dependence models; (2) most of the medium-scale organizations are based on the dependence model, and some on the stability model; (3) most of the large-scale organizations are based on the stability model, and some on the ideal model.

In specific, how to assist them to engage in life-long learning through senior citizen education is becoming a critical scheme of national developments. Previous literature shows that video-teaching may exert considerable teaching effects and learning outcomes, which has been prevalent in course design. In the past, the middle-aged and the elderly were general preoccupied by their less acceptability to utilizing digital materials in multi-media teaching. This present exploratory study aims to investigate the effects of video teaching on learning results by employing interactive class-preview videos in a “spiritual growth’ course in a university’s Senior Citizen Learning Camp in Kaohsiung City. Pinpointing learning effectiveness and background variables, the pre-test and post-test survey data from “ Learners’ Course Satisfaction Questionnaire” and “The Development of the Well-Being Scale of Elders” were treated and analyzed by statistical procedures such as Descriptive Statistics, Independent-Sample t-test, Paired-Sample t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The research results are 1) All background variable show no significant difference on learning effectiveness, 2) Class-preview videos has positive significant difference on course satisfaction, 3) Class-preview videos demonstrates significant difference on learners’ sense of bliss, 4) the frequency of viewing videos yields significant difference on learning effectiveness. Lastly, several substantial suggestions are proposed for the future studies, which relates to course instructors in senior citizen learning camp and the course planning of using videos appropriately.

The rights of the elderly should be on the forefront in discussions of emerging legal rights. While the rights of children have been well documented and discussed, there has been a lack of significant discourse on the elderly segment of the population. Most societies might assume that the rights and concerns of senior citizens are the same as the general population, but seniors have unique needs and concerns associated with their advancing age and associated health issues. In each stage in life, a person has different needs and societies needs to recognize that the elderly have their own unique and special needs. On the other hand, many senior citizens have increasingly felt that their peculiar concerns are being ignored: probate, inheritance taxes, power of attorney (if in poor health), living trusts, how to invest and not outlive their savings, failing or chronic health issues, and lack of enrichment opportunities. There are multiple reasons why elderly people need help from the community. 1. The status of elderly people has diminished as younger people no longer depend on older citizens for information. Due to industrialization, multi-generational households are increasing less common as children move away to get jobs. This decrease in multi-generational homes increases the need for public services for the elderly in order to replace the support that was previously provided by children or relatives. 2. Families are getting smaller; most families have fewer children than previously. It is becoming increasingly more likely for seniors to live alone. Demographics are changing and in most industrialized countries, the birth rate is decreasing. An increasing number of couples do not have kids and are delaying having children to focus on their careers. Also, divorce is causing an increase in single parent families. The average size of households in decreasing and seniors are more likely to be living by themselves. 3. Demographic trends throughout the developed and developing world show that the number of elderly in the world continues to increase. People are living longer than ever before due to improved sanitary conditions and healthcare. Societies will be dealing with effects of an aging population on a scale that they might not have anticipated involving health maintenance, legal issues, financial issues, lack of continuing education, and lack of social activities. As average age increases, society can no longer afford to ignore those problems that are especially characteristic of senior citizens. There should central services to aid and enrich the lives of the elderly in dealing with those problems of aging. Elderly people want the same rights as anyone else - the ability to find work, healthcare, a political voice, and engage in a social life. But as families in developed countries become smaller worldwide, the unique needs of the elderly need to be addressed. One example of how this is being done is by examining the services provided to seniors by a typical city in southern California: Irvine. Senior community services in California are city services that provide innovative community-based service programs to seniors and their caregivers to help them remain independent. Many countries do not provide any senior community services to the elderly. However, it should be considered to be a right of the elderly to have social services. Not only are the elderly living longer, but also they deserve a better lifestyle and dignity. It is important for society to recognize that the demographics trends around the world show that the elderly is the fastest growing segment of the population and therefore, it’s important to keep the elderly as productive and independent as possible. This can be accomplished by the availability of senior community service centers. With active aging being the goal of an aging society, how to maintain a meaningful later life for the elderly becomes a critical issue. An important basis for active aging assessment is community participation, through which the psychological well-being of the elderly can be evaluated and the impact on their mental health and their life assessed. Quantitative method is adopted in this study. On the selection of the population for this study, the target for analysis consists of senior Pingtung County citizens aged 65 or more. Purposive sampling of questionnaire survey is administered for data collection. Based on the model derived from the concept of psychological well-being by Ryff(1989,2014), this study will explore the relationship between Pingtung elderly’s community participation and their psychological well-being. Data from the survey will be tested by multiple regression method. The study selected 24 community caring-concern centers as purposive samples in which 347 questionnaires were returned. This study use a variety of analyses to verify the questionnaire data. When using multiple regression analysis, the model showed that the more elders participated in the community, the higher levels of physical and psychological well-being they have. Moreover, the 4 sub-dimensions of community participation were positively correlated with psychological well-being. The effect levels from high to low of the 4 sub-dimensions are leisure activities, learning activities, community activities and religious activities. The study again confirmed the positive relation between community participation and psychological well-being.
