Objective: The number of senior citizen in Indonesia, wheter the ones who live with their family or in a nursing home, is increasing. The changes they face in their elderly life lead to depression. Depression is a common mental health problems found in the elderly. This study aims to analyze the differences of correlation factors of depression among the senior citizens who live with their family and those who live in Sabai Nan Aluih Nursing Home, Sicincin.The design of the study is descriptive analytic with cross sectional approach. The subject of the study were 74 senior citizens who live with their family and also 74 senior citizen who live in nursing home. The sample was taken by using total sampling technique. The statistical test showed that there was a correlation of depression factors between the depression on the senior citizens who live with their family and those who live in a nursing home. There also were differences of depression factors between depression on senior citizens who live with their family and those who live in a nursing home.Based on the study, Sabai Nan Aluih Nursing Home is suggested to improve its service quality on elderly care. For families with senior citizens, it is suggested to give more attention and care to the elderly with depression and to prevent depression for the elderly with no depression. This review paper looked at some of the most relevant material on senior citizens' issues. The study aimed to use secondary data analysis to determine the most pressing needs of senior citizens. The essay examined their current situation, problems, and needs. Nepal's elderly population is growing every year. They have not received adequate care from the government. The private sector made a considerable contribution to this endeavor. Both the government and the private sector have made efforts in this regard. They are currently battling to meet their basic requirements. Senior citizens not receiving adequate food and has disability mental illnesses are two of the several misfortunes listed in the research papers, both of which are public health concerns. They are in dire need of proper nutrition as well as mental health promotion. That is an area where both the government and the private sector can focus. COVID-19 has the highest Case Fatality Rate among elderly adults, and Nepalese senior citizens have a high mortality rate. The high mortality and fatality rates of COVID among the elderly have prompted policymakers to focus on senior citizens' health and living conditions. There are three tiers of government in Nepal. If they understand the issue, they will develop strategies and services to aid senior citizens. In this changing environment, the public and private sectors at various levels must enhance cooperation to improve the dreadful situation of senior citizens. Also, the importance of family in senior citizen care has grown in recent years.

Limited research has been conducted on the views of senior citizens in Nepal with regards to contemporary challenges and aging issues. To better understand their existing problems, it is important to talk to and survey senior citizens and reflect on their experiences and insights. The Senior Citizens Acts, 2063 in Nepal defines senior citizens as individuals who have reached the age of 60 years or above. With an increase in life expectancy rates, the senior citizen population in Nepal is on the rise. However, despite the guarantees of rights outlined in the policy, little attention has been paid to the needs of the elderly population. This knowledge can help inform policies and programs that improve their quality of life and well-being. Therefore, this study aims to collect the lived experiences of older generations across Nepal, including information about the society, culture, and hardships they faced. The research aims to contribute to existing literature on the experiences of the elderly and inform policies related to senior citizens. A mixed-methods approach was used for this study, incorporating both primary and secondary sources. The primary data was collected through an informal survey posted on Facebook targeting senior citizens in Nepal which generated 100 responses from senior citizens aged 65 years or older within a 2-week period.

<p>The right to the city, the right to livelihood, the right to move, the right to work, the right to being in a place have all got disrupted in the past few months. The unprecedented crisis of the COVID-19 pandemic has sent waves of anxiety and panic throughout the world. The infection does not seem to spare any age group but the elderly are at a higher risk. Elder abuse is a universal pervasive problem of paramount public health importance that garners little attention. Elders suffer from abuse in various ways, like physical, psychological, sexual, material exploitation, and neglect, by their trustworthy caregivers. The elderly face social isolation and one need various ways to mitigate the adverse effects of social isolation. Potential risk factors are social isolation, cognitive impairment, traumatic life events, and dependence on abusers, poor physical and mental health and low social support are some of the concerns.</p><p>Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant social restrictive measures such as lockdown in most places throughout the world, elderly abuse has increased to a great extent. This paper discusses plausible reasons and various socio-cultural factors of elderly abuse. It could lead to the possibility of a menace into a ‘social pandemic’ in the future.</p>

This study was conducted to verify the effectiveness of use according to the purpose of establishing a senior citizen center, focusing on the late elderly aged 75 or older. To this end, the effectiveness of using senior citizen centers was evaluated by dividing into social participation-leisure-cultural satisfaction, friend and community satisfaction, and overall life satisfaction. The difference in differences(DID) analysis was conducted using the 2008 and 2020 National Survey of Older Persons. As a result, it was found that the overall level of satisfaction with social participation-leisure-cultural satisfaction, friend and community satisfaction of the late elderly decreased over time, but the level of decline of the use group of senior citizen center decreased somewhat. In addition, it was confirmed that the level of overall life satisfaction increased over time, and the level of increase in the group using senior citizens center increased more steeply. Based on these results, this study presented policy suggestions such as preparing countermeasures for sustainable operation, multifunctionalizing a role of senior citizen center, and improving the use environment in relation to the revitalization of senior citizens.

Korea is rapidly aging, with the elderly population accounting for approximately 18% of the total population, entering an aging society, and is expected to soon enter a super-aged society. To understand the characteristics of the elderly, a cohort approach is necessary. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to find out through analysis of variance (ANOVA) whether there are differences between groups in terms of economics and life by age group, based on the baby boom generation, a representative cohort group in Korea, and to identify types within the elderly, not as a single group. It's in doing. In addition, the purpose is to categorize the housing services required for each type of senior citizen and present them as a commercialization model. The results of the ANOVA showed that there were differences between groups in most variables, and the housing prices, rental deposits, and earned income of the elderly were also found to decrease. Social insurance by age group remains higher than that of the previous generation for those reporting an age, and in particular, the social insurance benefit rate has increased. Meanwhile, existing seniors and new seniors were found to have differences in terms of life consciousness, consciousness of old age, attitude toward life, independence, retirement planning, values, leisure view, asset disposal, travel type, hobbies, and life style. Based on this, if we derive a housing service commercialization model for each type of senior citizen, daily life support and work (occupation) support are also required for existing senior citizens. In the case of new senior citizens, support for active community activities, support for hobbies/leisure activities, and support for work or occupational activities is required. Essential housing services for both types include energy and environmental support, health care, safety (life safety), crime prevention (crime safety), relationship support (mental health), and community support.

According to the "2020 Wuhan Community Home Care Special Research Report" published by Hubei Provincial Bureau of Statistics Wu, the household population of Wuhan residents aged 60 and above is 1,942,500, and the market size of senior care services in Wuhan reaches 23.360 billion yuan. The increase in the proportion of the elderly population has contributed to the development of the elderly market, and the corresponding elderly institutions have been differentiated from the general education buildings in terms of space design to achieve the purpose of "learning and enjoyment for the elderly". In this paper, the design example of Park Spring Senior College is combined with the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elderly, and the three aspects of content, characteristics and composite are designed comprehensively, in order to provide some reference for similar units.

Malaysia is reported to be an “elderly’”country by 2030. Senior citizens are “jewels in experience”, wherefore their welfare rights should be protected under the law or by the public in general. Therefore, this paper discusses the rights of senior citizens to be protected by examining the provisions of the Destitute Persons Act 1977. The study was carried out through library research. Apart from analysing the provisions of the Destitute Persons 1977 Act, reported cases of underprivileged and ill senior citizens in Malaysia were also taken into view. In addition, this article also discusses the role of government agencies in helping senior citizens in need of protection and care, in the form of physical or financial assistance. Finally, this article discusses the actions and recommendations of the government which seeks to draw up an Act specifically aimed at protecting senior citizen welfare rights as a whole.

Abstract (sommario):

The number of studies investigating computer use or other technologies used by senior citizens has progressively increased in the last twenty years. The interest stems from a diverse range of research disciplines including human computer interaction, education, and many others. However, this group of people is less likely to use technology compared to younger groups. Senior citizens generally have a positive attitude towards technology, and they are willing to use the product if they need it. Positive attitudes are also more likely to be expressed towards devices used every day at home, such as the television, microwave etc. Even if those devices are now typically digital, senior citizens are familiar and comfortable with them. A common reason for not wanting to learn different technologies was the feeling that it may be too difficult for them or not having access to a computer or tablet. These characteristics drive us to offer a solution by rethinking the use of some existing technologies and making them more affordable and accessible to older people. It is offered on a TV, something that senior citizens are familiar and comfortable with and which most of them have it at home. As the first step, we identified different requirements and factors that affect senior citizens' daily lives, the things that they do most during the day. Based on these requirements, we had to find services that will fulfill them. The system is constructed from four major services such as video conferencing, news, books and different recreation videos (e.g.: tips about exercise, hunting, cooking or gardening.) Each one of these sections is identified by a review of previous research using a literature survey. These services were chosen, among others, for their effects on senior citizens' quality of life. Thus, our goal was to provide them with an adequate set of required services. The working environment (Smart TV) is based on the different reasons stated below in the research. Some of them are a) a Smart TV is an integrated system which offers features of both a traditional TV and a personal computer, b) it provides a large screen, is easy to use and always ready, and most importantly, c) the TV, the most-user friendly electronic device, is a basic activity of senior citizens in their daily life. Design perspectives and functional requirements are presented. Finally, we describe some scenarios and assessment methods of the proposed system with the target group (senior citizens). Based on the findings, we can conclude that there was great acceptance from senior citizens for the support of daily living and the ability to control their daily activities provided by this service.

During the past decades there has been an increase in longevity. These aging trends have an enormous economic impact and present challenges to policymakers, families, and health care providers to meet the needs of aging individuals. Aging is accompanied with various physiological changes that can limit the elderly’s functional status and their independency. Some of the most noticeable changes occur within the musculoskeletal system, however cardiorespiratory changes, as well as changes in the body composition limits the elderly’s aerobic capacity and therefore increases the risk for cardiovascular and hypokinetic diseases. Moderate physical activity reduces the risk, or prolong the onset of physiological changes and various diseases. Physical activity can also enhance functional fitness amongst the elderly. Functional fitness is having the physiologic capacity to perform normal everyday activities safely and independently without undue fatigue. The aim of this study was to determine the functional fitness as well as static balance and dynamic balance status of senior citizens. Secondly, to determine the association between: physical activity, aerobic endurance and functional fitness and status amongst senior citizens. Thirdly, to determine the association between physical activity status, aerobic endurance and static– and dynamic balance amongst elderly. A once off subject availability study was performed, and 58 senior citizens (32 females and 26 males) between the ages of 65 years and 96 years participated. The physical activity index was determined with the Sharkey and Gaskill Physical activity index questionnaire. Functional fitness was measured using the Rikli and Jones Fullerton’s functional fitness test protocol. The static balance and dynamic balance was tested with the one leg balance eyes closed and functional reach test respectively. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the status of the participants. Two way summary tables were used to categorize the amount of weak test results. Partial correlations were used to determine the association between physical activity, functional fitness and static and dynamic balance. The male participants’ functional fitness status compared well with USA normal ranges, however the functional fitness test scores of the female participants were even lower than the older age group (75 to 79 years) of the USA normal ranges. The results of the frequency distribution indicated that 80.77% and 68.75% of the male and female participants respectively, tested poorly in more than four of the functional fitness tests. Neither the male nor the female participants’ static balance score were adequate, although it does not indicate a fall risk. Aerobic endurance showed to have medium (r = 0.3–0.49) to high (r 0.5) partial correlation with all functional fitness tests for the total group, as well as in the female participants. In the male participants aerobic endurance only showed high correlation (r 0.5) with lower body strength and dynamic balance and agility. Dynamic balance correlated well (r 0.5) with all functional fitness tests as well as aerobic endurance and physical activity index in the female participants, and only showed a medium correlation with agility in the male participants. This study showed alarming percentages of poor test results for both male and female senior citizens and highlights the need for physical activity interventions in old age homes. The correlations between aerobic endurance, as well as dynamic balance and functional fitness tests indicates that even simple interventions such as walking programs could enhance the functional fitness of senior citizens and thereby increase their independency.

Although the graying of the American society has been well documented, the question as to whether the elderly populace will indeed become a political factor has yet to be determined. Some studies indicate that the elderly will soon develop the consensus needed for political action; other studies counter that the elderly will never be a viable political factor. Among the determinants listed as influencing the political participation equation are standard socioeconomic variables (e.g., race, social status, education, and income). These factors have been studied extensively (Campbell 1960; Key 1950; Milbrath 1965; Nagel 1987; Rose 1965). Trela recently added an item that could possibly influence the political activism of the elderly: membership in age-graded associations. This study addresses the questions raised by Trela (1971), namely, whether age-graded associations influence the political activity of senior citizens, and if so, in what direction elderly participation is swayed. Unlike previous reports, the preliminary data gathered for this study suggest that the age-graded associations of the elderly cannot accurately predict their political activism.

The emergency response readiness of the public health and emergency management systems have become increasingly important topics for research, development and action in the United States. Senior citizens represent a large and growing population group in the United States. Older persons are likely to be disproportionately vulnerable during disasters because they are more likely to have chronic illnesses, functional limitations, and sensory, physical and cognitive disabilities than those of younger ages. Elderly health and safety have become the responsibility of the elderly themselves, of the community in which they live, and the various agencies and organizations charged with preparedness planning. The goal of this study was to assess the emergency operations plans (EOPs) of emergency relief agencies and organizations in the Atlanta area for the provision of emergency relief services utilized by senior citizens as a special needs population. The research and analysis performed was completed in two steps: a review of collected disaster and emergency operations plans (EOPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), and a qualitative analysis of a survey submitted to the agencies. Although many EOPs and SOPs referred to emergency relief services for special needs populations, the plans were not functional and did not fully outline the ‘who, what, when, where and how” to provide disaster relief services. Public health agencies must endeavor to better address the disaster related needs of elderly persons who have physical disabilities, special medical needs and communication disabilities. Disaster preparedness plans must ensure the availability of all items necessary to control and prevent complications related to chronic diseases, prevent acute events and promote functionality and independence.

In light of the European Union`s 2012 theme year: Active aging and solidarity between generations I wished to gain an understanding of weather elderly immigrant are provided with equal possibilities and access to local community information as the majority population and their participation in activities arranged for senior citizens in the municipality where they live. I have done this by meeting with those who work in this capacity. I also chose to meet with representatives for immigrant organizations in the local community to enquire of their work with senior citizens within their own ethnic group. This is a qualitative study on a phenomenological ground based on nine interviews and four observations. I have had two theories to help me analyze my empirical material. Globalization theory is a good groundwork to understanding the changes in modern multicultural societies where I have looked at the work of Anthony Giddens first at hand. The theory of KASAM by Aaron Antonowsky explains how the sense of coherence helps people to remain positive and satisfied in old age despite their failing health and unfavorable circumstances at times. I have found that the municipality where this study is preformed has a multicultural focus in their manor of spreading information. Yet many ethnic groups seek information verbally from friends and family rather than seek it through the official channels which may be more common among the majority population and immigrants that have established themselves in the society. Still all those whom I interviewed agreed that spreading information through direct contact always is the most effective way to get information across to people. I found that the local community meeting places for senior citizens have no immigrants attending on a regular basis. I did meet a group of senior migrant citizens with their origin in various nationalities that gather under the supervision of a cooperation project that has integration and public health as its main goal. All the participants in their activities for senior citizens started coming through personal invitation from the project leader or other group participants. With regards to the theme year those working with senior citizens were aware of it but haven’t had any specific focus on it in their work except for a few that participate in a regional public health project. They all agree that a theme year for active ageing and solidarity is an important milestone to recognizing the needs for recreation and showing respect to those who are beyond the age for retirement.

Many senior citizens are surviving on minimal Social Security benefits and as a result, struggle with food security. Metrocrest Services in Farmers Branch, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, is a non-profit organization that provides several food programs to residents of the community including some programs that are specifically tailored to the needs of senior citizens. This project was to provide Metrocrest with an assessment of the food security of their senior clientele as well as other elderly residents of the Metrocrest service area and to evaluate the current senior focused programs. The project utilized qualitative research including both Metrocrest clients and residents who were not Metrocrest clients bot whose demographics were similar. The objectives were to determine the coping skills used by senior citizens in obtaining food, to assess seniors' awareness of the programs offered by Metrocrest, to discover barriers to accessing needed resources and to make recommendations of how programs could be improved or modified if needed. Through my research, I was able to present Metrocrest with a number of recommendations to improve their existing programs. I was also able to recommend some potential new programs that could be designed in conjunction with local senior centers to better serve the community.

AbstractThis study addresses a crucial gap in current literature by examining the use of MyData-based health apps among individuals aged 50 and above in the UK and Nordic nations. With the advancement of personalized health technologies, understanding the factors influencing adoption among the elderly is essential. The research provides insights tailored to this demographic within the broader framework of digital health adoption. The primary scientific objective was to identify technological and health-related factors influencing the willingness of senior adults (50 and above) to use MyData-based preventive healthcare applications. The conditions for adoption, technological considerations, health-related variables, willingness to share MyData, and demographic variations were explored. Grounded in the Universal Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) and Health Protection Motivation components, the research employed a quantitative approach, integrating a new concept called sharing personal data into the framework. Data collection occurred through an online survey in the UK and the Nordic region, yielding 374 responses from the Nordic sample and 1165 from the UK sample, resulting in a cleaned dataset of 1016. Findings revealed the significance of willingness to share MyData for both the UK and Nordic regions, with performance expectancy emerging as an outstanding technological factor for the Nordic population, but not for the UK. Across nations and genders, self-efficacy is portrayed as a strong driver in health-related aspects. These contribute to academic knowledge and have societal value by guiding the development of digital health solutions for the elderly, ultimately improving their quality of life and health outcomes.

AbstractThe chapter discusses the concept of socially responsible innovations and links it to the third mission of universities, understood in terms of social engagement of the higher education institutions. It presents the case study of the EIT Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs project (funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, EIT, in the framework of Regional Innovation Scheme, RIS). The project has been rolled out to 14 European countries. It serves as a successful example of universities orchestrating the process of co-creation of new products, which involves consumers and producers. The process aimed to address societal challenges and serve the needs of a vulnerable group of senior citizens by developing new food products, proposed by the elderly consumers and matching their specific needs and requirements. It looks at the project experiences through the lenses of inclusion and responsiveness, which allow the universities to combine social responsibility with commercially attractive innovations. Universities involved in the project were playing the role of “interpreters”, linking companies and consumers, facilitating the creative activities and ensuring the methodological and ethical soundness of the co-creation processes.

The employment of senior citizens is a global challenge of major proportions, and increasing apace. From the systems ergonomics perspective these challenges can be categorized and measured from physical, cognitive, social, affective, environmental or economic viewpoints. A series of studies is underway at SIM University, Singapore to evaluate the characteristics, capabilities, limitations and aspirations of senior citizens aged 55 – 75 with regard to their employment, and compare these with a cohort of younger counterparts. The first phase of this project measured physical capabilities including, size and shape, strength, speed, stamina, and motor skills. The results of these studies indicated that, whereas these variables showed some expected associations with age, they also showed very large individual differences, presumably related to disease, disuse, disinterest, inheritance and life history. The second phase of the study investigated the perceptions, using a Kano approach (must have, more the better and excitement categories), of older people with regard to their jobs on dimensions such as physical demands, technology demands, economics, relationships (with management, co workers and customers) and job environment. As predicted economic and relationship issues dominated the results, followed by physical and technology demands. The third phase was an objective approach to the physical and operational job demands using a “Job Physical Activity Sampling” approach. This analysis indicated widely varying sedentary and dynamic job demands. Finally guidelines are presented with regard to employment of elderly people to assure health, safety and satisfaction. These guidelines are categorized using a consensus based demand – strain model that addresses spatial, manipulation, environmental, manual materials handling and operational factors. Participants were also surveyed regarding their perceived fitness for work. The conclusion of the study was that age per se is not the main challenge; rather it is the correlates of age, such as disease, that stand in the way of gainful employment.

Fintech solutions are becoming increasingly present in societies today as people accept related innovations into existence and use them daily, where various financial services have been digitalized and integrated into smartphones. From mobile banking to digital payment solutions, AI integration, and e-wallets, these are examples of famous fintech solutions commonly used worldwide today. Focusing on the latter, e-wallets are products of fintech that utilize smartphones to conduct various daily financial transactions. However, as innovations in ICT continue to evolve, there are still sectors among societies that generally need help to accept and use such modern digitalized solutions. This paper aims to analyze the usage and acceptance of e-wallet applications in the Philippines among senior citizens by comparing an existing application with an application designed by the proponents. The study measures the acceptance and usage of senior citizens on said e-wallet applications based on their visual interface and interaction through its Design, Security, Navigation, Process Efficiency, and Language. Non-parametric statistical analysis tools (Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and Kendall Rank Correlation) were used to interpret the gathered data from thirty-five senior citizens who utilize e-wallet applications and reside around the National Capital Region. The Kendall Rank Correlation revealed the degree of relationships between variables (showing relationships between Acceptance and Display, Navigation, Process Efficiency, and Language, and between Usage and Display, Navigation, and Process Efficiency). In contrast, our Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed statistical preference over the newly designed e-wallet application over the market-existing e-wallet initially compared with. The need to address such issues enables communities, establishments, developers, and companies to become more financially and digitally inclusive, especially toward senior citizens. This study may provide valuable insights toward a more technologically welcoming environment.

The concept of keeping healthy through exercising is widely accepted by people. In parks or green lands in Chinese cities, public physical exercising facilities have been set up for the general public to improve their own health for free. In this paper, DEMATEL method was used to analyze the influence mechanism of the elderly's intention to use public physical exercising facilities. 16 influential factors were collected from viewpoint of the human-machine-environment system, and 11 senior citizens over sixty years old who had the habit of using public physical exercising facilities were invited to carry out the DEMATEL questionnaire survey. The findings show(1)’the habit of physical exercise’, ‘the safety of public physical exercising facilities’, ‘versatility and convenience of public physical exercising facilities’, ‘the entertainment facilities around the public physical exercising facilities’, and ‘the solid ground around the physical exercising facilities ensuring the elderly stand firmly’ have a significant impact on elderly's usage intention of public physical exercising facilities; and(2)among all the factors, ‘the habit of physical exercise’ is the most dominant influential factor. Finally, based on the findings, three design strategies that may enhance elderly’s intention to use public physical exercising facilities were proposed: (1)incorporating the concept of keeping exercise into the design of public physical exercising facilities; (2)setting up public physical exercising places in or near the neighborhood; (3)building activity centers for the elderly around public physical exercising facilities.

The urgent needs of food assistance for senior citizens increase rapidly. Elderly people are physically weak, especially those who are living alone, longliving, disabled and semi-disabled, and it is difficult for them to prepare nutritious meals on their own. Besides, since most of them suffer from chronic diseases and have special dietary requirements, the food provided to the general public is not suitable for them. It is becoming increasingly important to provide healthy eating assistance services for the elderly people at home. In this paper, users’ needs were inspected from the perspective of service design and an elderly-friendly meal service system was built for them. Firstly, we analyzed the existing elderly meal service model through desktop research. Secondly, we explored the problems of elderly users in the process of dining through semi-structured interviews in households and gain insight into their real needs. Then, we constructed an elderly-friendly meal service system. It solves various problems related to diets brought by aging (such as chronic disease management, lack of nutritional knowledge, etc.) by interactive designs, so that the elderly can receive meal assistance services based on their own health status, dietary preferences and other personalized needs.

As many elderly citizens have diminished strength and balance, they must use their hands while standing to support and stabilize themselves. This prevents them from using their hands to pull up and buckle their pants. As a result, these individuals must ask for assistance from others or spend an unnecessary amount of time doing this task independently while risking a fall. This problem becomes worsened when coupled with ailments such as arthritis, torn rotator cuffs, or multiple sclerosis (MS). The purpose of this senior design project was to develop an automated device to assist individuals in dressing themselves. Specifically, this device is to be designed to help individuals with weakened physical conditions pull their pants and briefs up while standing and supporting themselves.

A responsive smart product can connect with a network, to sense and gain awareness as well as to react to input signals and align with them. This paper describes the product requirements gathering process to assist the development of a responsive bathroom mirror connected with emergency centres for elderly support. The rapidly increasing ageing population has led to increased number of elderly people living alone. In this sense it is essential to pursue strategies that can guarantee ageing in place safely, independently, and with confidence, and improve the quality of life of those who wish to continue living in their own living environment. Driven by recent advances in technology, the development of smart products that can respond to human needs and wants, and to improve everyday tasks, became a tangible reality. When smart products are developed for senior citizens daily support, responding to what their expectations are and whether they are satisfied with them, and what opportunities and worries they associate with their age, overcoming technological barriers from the user's point of view, it will have a huge impact on the communities: older people, their families, and the healthcare system. To address these issues, this paper provides a systematic identification of product requirements, technological and from user’s point of view, for the future development of a responsive mirror. Towards a holist development approach, first, existing studies on smart products, research on related technological trends and development were reviewed, supplemented with case studies of existing smart products for healthcare. The first list of requirements was developed from this research. Additionally, studies and public statistics were analysed to confirm the relation between domestic environment and high levels of injuries, as well as places and situations of the accidents that have high impact on health and well-being. Smart products typically have a strong sense of technology. Being a mirror a product that is used in a daily basis, it is mandatory to gather simultaneously the user’s preferences and technological requirements. Based on a systematic approach, a Kano Model was developed; requirements were synthesized and organized within a comprehensive user requirement framework delineating three levels of needs: basic, performance and delight. Research from the field of smart products demonstrated that there are several technological trends that can be applied to mirrors, that there are smart mirrors for applications in automobile and fashion industries. Nevertheless, examples of these products in healthcare remains limited. Additionally, recent technological developments enable the development of a responsive smart mirror that not only serve as an interface for displaying information but can predict the presence of the user.

Leisure refers to non-obligatory activities that are driven by intrinsic motivation allowing individuals to freely allocate their time based on personal interests including sports, culture, and artistic engagement. Participation in leisure activities is one of the important factors that affect an individual's well-being, including the management of physical and mental health, the ability to cope with stress, and the improvement of quality of life. According to a 2021 survey (10,000 people over 15 years old) by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of South Korea, approximately 80% of respondents continue to engage in sports, hobbies, and entertainment activities, and the trend is increasing every year. The government of South Korea is carrying out policies to guarantee fundamental rights to leisure and culture and improve their quality of life. Koreans’ interest in leisure and cultural activities is steadily increasing. Thus, the government is striving to promote the health and well-being of its citizens by implementing policies to guarantee these rights.Metaverse has recently emerged as a future industry. Various digital contents based on the metaverse are emerging to provide leisure services such as exercising, playing games, and watching performances. South Korea is also introducing the metaverse to public services including the cultural sector, to provide universal public services to people. Recently, there has been a growing interest in XR (eXtended Reality) technology, which encompasses immersive technologies such as VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), and MR (Mixed Reality). This can increase the sense of immersion and realism, so users can have an experience that is very similar to reality through the fusion of XR technology and the metaverse space.However, the current metaverse users in South Korea are overly concentrated in their teens and 20s. In addition, there is a limited amount of content that spans different generations. This is a major obstacle to the universalization of the metaverse for the public and the development of related industries. Moreover, since Korea entered an aging society, the number of elderly people has been steadily increasing every year. This trend can lead to societal problems such as digital exclusion and digital illiteracy. As the aging process progresses, human physical and cognitive functions deteriorate rapidly, which can significantly limit the adaptation and utilization of rapidly evolving technologies. To build a metaverse space that is universally accessible to everyone, it is necessary to take into account the differences in physical and cognitive functions that occur due to aging.Based on the requirement, we are currently developing an XR technology-based metaverse platform and content that allows juniors and seniors to enjoy leisure activities together. The research consists of the development of a metaverse platform based on XR technology, three types of sports (bowling, golf, walking), and three types of games (puzzle, escape, adventure). First, utilizing related devices such as head-mounted displays (HMDs), log data, and Unity plugin-based acquisition technology, we acquire user data related to physical and cognitive abilities while performing six types of content. Subsequently, we will apply data mining techniques to extract significant characteristics in physical and cognitive abilities between junior and senior generations. Finally, we aim to define relevant human factor parameters by analyzing intergenerational differences in these features. The extracted human factor parameters are used in the process of correction and augmentation of intergenerational differences in physical and cognitive abilities.In this study, we aim to provide a detailed description of the concept and process of our ongoing research and introduce our research future directions. In particular, we focus on the human factor extraction process related to six types of content.
