Abstract (sommario):
This paper provides the results of the studies of polymer-bitumen sealing compounds for sealing seams and cracks in asphalt con-crete road. The polymers used were waste from Krasnoyarsk factories (rubber-fabric and butyl-rubber crumbs) and Tomsk factories (polyethylene waste and atactic polypropylene). Here we formulate the basic require-ments for sealing compounds applied in the Siberian regions. An experi-ment has been carried out with the use of the planning method, we pre-pared the compounds and determined their basic properties, as well as plot-ted the isolines of the compounds’ properties depending on the proportion-ing of mineral powder and polymer waste. Based on the analysis of the iso-lines and comparing the properties with the requirements, we selected the optimal compositions of the prepared sealing compounds and defined their core indicators. As a result of the research, the mastic based on butyl-rubber crumbs was chosen as the one meeting all the requirements by all the indicators. This paper reflects the results of the test surveys on pouring cracks in the road surface of Krasnoyarsk. The developed sealing com-pound has been adopted in production on the roads of Krasnoyarsk Territo-ry.

Abstract (sommario):
The solid-state fermentation process of strongly flavored Baijiu is complicated by the co-fermentation of many different microorganisms in the fermentation pools. The traditional fermentation pools of strong flavor Baijiu are sealed with mud, and this sealed-pit mud is not easy to maintain; therefore, the pit cap is prone to cracks and to caving in. The destruction of the sealed-pit mud may lead to instability in the composition and an abundance of microorganisms in the fermentation process that results in fluctuations of product quality. Thus, the production method of replacing the mud cap with a new steel cap is gradually attracting the attention of scientific and technical workers in the industry. However, so far, there have been relatively few reports on the use of steel lids for sealing pits for fermentation and brewing. In this study, the volatile flavor components of 270 Baijiu samples from mud-sealing and steel-sealing pits of a Chinese Baijiu distillery were studied qualitatively and quantitatively using Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (Abbreviated as GC-MS). Our statistical methods included Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (Abbreviated as HCA), Principal Component Analysis (Abbreviated as PCA), and Discriminant Analysis (Abbreviated as DA). A statistical analysis was carried out on the yield of strongly flavored Baijiu, and we made a comprehensive evaluation of the Baijiu produced under the two pit-sealing modes with regard to flavor and economic efficiency. The yield of strong flavored Baijiu was 6.7% higher with steel-sealing pits compared with mud-sealing pits. Cluster analysis categorized the strongly flavored Baijiu samples into two categories initially: (1) samples produced using mud-sealing pits and (2) samples using steel-sealing pits. Our analysis also indicated that the 28 compounds used for quantification were selected correctly. Surprising to the experimental staff, the overall score for the steel-sealing pits was greater than that of the mud-sealing pits based on PCA. Using DA, the prediction results were 100% accurate. In summary, through a comparative analysis of the flavor and yield, which are the two main factors that affect the quality of Baijiu in a distillery, and systematic combination at both experimental and theoretical levels, the differences between the Baijiu production by steel-sealing and the traditional mud-sealing were clear. Regardless of the impact of age, the detectable flavor components of Baijiu from the mud-steeling pits were very consistent with those of the steel-sealing pits in terms of richness or concentration. However, steel-sealing pits were significantly superior to mud-sealing pits with respect to output, consistency in quality, and cost (human and economic) savings.

Abstract (sommario):
Broccoli (Brassica oleracea L., ltalica Group) produces severe off-odors when it is stored under anaerobic conditions which can develop in modified atmosphere packages. The compounds responsible for these off-odors, which render the broccoli unmarketable, were produced after sealing 50 g of fresh broccoli florets in glass pint jars held at 15C. Twenty-four hours after sealing oxygen concentration dropped to around 0.5% and remained at this concentration for 6 days. Volatile compounds found in the head space of the jars were identified using gas chromatography with flame photometric and mass spectroscopic detection. Volatile compounds produced were identified as methanethiol, hydrogen sulfide, dimethyl disulfide, acetaldehyde, acetone, ethanol, and ethyl acetate. Methanethiol was detected 48 hours after sealing and appears through olfactory evaluation to be the primary compound responsible for the objectionable odor.

Abstract (sommario):
Water shutoff in oil wells operated in naturally fractured reservoirs is one of the most complex types of geological and technical operations in the oil industry related to repair and insulation works, the success rate of which does not exceed 35–60 %. In order to increase the efficiency of such operations, a set of sealing compositions based on the processing of natural materials, such as sand, peat, rice husk is proposed. Using the methods of mechanochemical activation, it was possible to dissolve sand in a low-concentrated alkali and obtain a sealing compound reinforced with undissolved sand particles by gelating the resulting sodium silicate. When combining mechanically activated sand and peat, a hybrid sealing material with the ultimate shear stress 27.7±1.2 Pa was obtained. The same approach made it possible to activate rice husks containing up to 20 % biogenic silicon dioxide and obtain a hybrid sealing material with the ultimate shear stress of 16.2 ± 0.6 Pa. This makes it possible to consider materials from natural and plant-renewable raw materials very promising for repair and insulation work.

Abstract (sommario):
Current trends concerning hydraulic cylinder sealing systems are aimed at decreasing energy consumption which can be materialized by minimizing leaks and reducing friction. The latest developments in the field of materials and sealing system geometries as well as modern simulation possibilities allow maximum performance levels of hydraulic cylinders. Reducing friction is possible by hydro-dynamic separation of the sliding and sealing points already at very low velocities and by using materials, such as plastomers, from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) (virgin PTFE and filled PTFE). It is within this context that this paper discusses a theoretical and experimental study focused on the tribological behavior of coaxial sealing systems mounted on the pistons of hydraulic cylinders. It presents a methodology for the theoretical determination of the lubricant film thickness between the cylinder piston and the seal. The experimental installation used for measuring fluid film thickness is presented, and the results obtained under various working conditions are compared to the theoretical ones. For the analyzed working conditions related to pressure, speed, and temperature, the paper concludes with a set of criteria for the selection of the optimum seal material so as to maximize energy efficiency.

Abstract (sommario):
A thermally grown oxide (TGO) such as the alumina scale formed on a bondcoat enhances the oxidation and corrosion resistance of thermal barrier coating (TBC)- bondcoat-superalloy substrate systems. As the external alumina scale lies between the thermal barrier coating and bondcoat, its first spallation and subsequent TBC delamination become critical. Once the external alumina scale spalls, it will spall together with the TBC, leaving the system with no temperature barrier protection. Operational factors such as thermal cycling conditions, water vapour in the oxidation atmosphere, and alloying elements comprising the bondcoat system affect alumina scale adherence. Another problem that arises for the majority of bondcoat systems, β (Ni,Pt)Al and MCrAlY (M=Metal), are rich in aluminium. This causes aluminium to diffuse into the substrate, enriching it with aluminium during service, transforming phases in the substrate alloying system. The purpose of this study was to develop bondcoat materials that promote formation of a strongly adherent TGO, but have an aluminium content near the substrate composition. Cyclic oxidation experiments were performed with Ni-Al, Ni-Pt-Al, and Ni-Pt-Al-Ir alloys in dry air and air-12%H2O. Thermal cycles of 1 hr at 1200OC and 10 minutes at 80OC were carried out in flowing gases at a total pressure of 1 atm. Experiments in N2- 12%H2O were performed only on Ni-Al binary alloys. Binary Ni-Al cast alloys were tested for fundamental study purposes, while Ni-Pt-Al and Ni-Pt-Al-Ir cast alloys were intended to be models for aluminide coatings, with attention focused on γ+γ' -Ni-(20 to 23)Al. Comparisons were made with β-Ni-50Al, as it forms an external alumina scale and was found to have the smallest weight loss rate during testing of binary alloys. Assessments of Pt and Pt-Ir additions, with and without hafnium, to the γ+γ' binary alloy were made. Compared to binary alloys, platinum was found to reduce the total weight loss caused by scale spallation. Experiments in air-12%H2O led to more rapid weight loss than in dry air. This was due to enhanced spallation. However, the degradation rate was slower than in platinum-free alloys exposed to the same atmosphere. Partial replacement of platinum with iridium was found to improve alloy scale adherence during exposure in both dry and wet air. Addition of 1wt% hafnium was found to reduce oxide thickness and increase the oxide adherence simultaneously. The hafnium addition was essential in order to reduce spallation rate in wet air. Water vapour in the presence of oxygen generally increased the spallation rate. It weakened the oxide metal interface, causing subsequent spallation to be increased, but only if the gas had access to the alloy-scale interface. Water vapour did not affect the spallation rate of the strongly adherent oxide grown on Ni-22Al-30Pt+1wt%Hf and Ni- 20Al-15Pt-10Ir+1wt%Hf.

Abstract (sommario):
Frying is one of the most attractive food preparation techniques and has been in use for centuries. It refers to a gastronomic practice that is widely accepted around the world and used both in the industrial area and domestically. It is worth noting that this preference of consumers for fried foods is due to their unique sensory properties, such as taste, aroma and texture. However, with the high temperature that is used in the cooking method, the chemical composition of the frying oil can be modified. The reactions that occur in vegetable oils during frying (hydrolytic processes) are associated with several mechanisms, such as reactive species, chemical formation of the lipid, medium and method, inducing the speed and nature of frying. The purpose of this work is to investigate the characteristics of the vegetable oil most used by the population (refined soybean oils) used in the domestic method of short-term frying, using the electric fryer for domestic use and conventional method. Nugget-type breaded products were used because they are a convenient product, widely consumed in industrialized countries. Short-term domestic frying was done over the course of three days, with a period of one week. After each frying, the refined oil was researched. The methodology is based on bromatological evaluations of quality research using acidity analyses, where the content of free acidity, compounds formed by hydrolytic rancidity, was verified. According to the results, the samples of fresh soybean oil were within the regulatory limits. However, soon after the short-term frying process, there was an increase in the free fatty acid content of both short-term domestic frying using soybean oil. In addition, there was no considerable difference in the increase in the value of fatty acids in relation to both domestic frying techniques. However, as a rule, the oil showed an excellent thermal quality, bromatological analyses showed that it is necessary to be cautious when reusing short-term frying oils. It is analyzed that the electric fryer is efficient in the quality of the oil in terms of preservation in contrast to the conventional method, possibly for the reason of temperature control and better sealing effectiveness.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract An investigation has been carried out to determine the corrosion protection that an inorganic sealing agent provides for micropores of spray coating films. The sealing agent used is composed of silicate compounds and easily penetrates the micropores of spray coating films. Generally speaking, its stability under ultraviolet light is much higher than any organic sealing agents available. In this study, the sealing capability of the inorganic agent was tested using several kinds of spray-coated specimens. In addition, observations were made about the anticorrosion characteristics of these sealed specimens. The samples used for this study were Zn/Al spray coated steel and pure aluminum spray coated steel. The inorganic silicate-sealing agent was applied to all of the specimens. However, some of them were ground until the sealing agent was completely removed from the surface of the specimens. For the latter case, the silicate-sealing agent remained only in the micropores of the spray-coated films. These specimens were observed by SEM-EDX to observe the sealing condition. Their corrosion characteristics were also observed by performing a CASS test. Using these results, we were able to evaluate the sealing agent’s protective capability for spray coatings.

Abstract (sommario):
This project has been initiated in order to get a general basic understanding about the influence of additives onto elastomeric lip seal systems. It is necessary to determine the behavior with single additive base oil compounds. Two different synthetic base oils, Polyglycol (PG) and Polyalphaolefin (PAO), are used. Thus 19 different single additive base oil compounds have been reviewed. Two different elastomeric materials NBR and FPM have been taken for all the tests. In several dynamic tests the influences on the sealing systems have been investigated. These included tests for 24 hours to measure the friction torque and tests for 10 hours to measure the pumping rate. Furthermore, the operating conditions during 96 hours functional tests have been determined. A concluding view onto the compatibility, respectively the incompatibility, of the additives in these different points of view will be given.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Hexavalent chromium Cr(VI) is one of the oxidation states (+6) of chromium. It is a recognized toxin and carcinogen, which if ingested or inhaled may affect the respiratory system, kidneys, and liver. It can also cause dermatitis and severe irritation to the eyes. It is widely present in electroplating, anodizing and dye production industries, but has recently been identified as contaminant on serviced components of gas turbines. To this regard, there is the potential for Cr(VI) compounds to be present on gas turbine components serviced at high temperature, if calcium-containing insulating, anti-seize or sealing products are used. A systematic experimental campaign was carried out to investigate the mechanism and understand the influence of various factors on the formation of substances containing chromium in the hexavalent form. During the test campaign, anti-seize products, sealing products, insulating products but also environmental contaminants were tested on different bare materials in different service conditions.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Minimizing unwanted water production from oil wells is highly required in the petroleum industry. This would lead to improved economic life of mature wells that involve new and innovative technologies. Nanosilica-based sealing fluid has been developed to address problems associated with unwanted water production. The objective of this work is to evaluate a newly developed novel water shutoff system based on nanosilica over a wide range of parameters. This modified nanosilica has a smooth, spherical shape, and are present in a narrow particle size distribution. Therefore, it can be used for water management in different water production mechanisms including high permeability streak, wormhole, and fractured reservoirs. A systematic evaluation of novel nanosilica/activator for water shutoff purposes requires the examination of the chemical properties before, during, and after gelation at given reservoir conditions. These properties are solution initial viscosity, gelation time, injectivity, and strength of the formed gel against applied external forces in different flooding systems. This paper details a promising method to control undesired water production using eco-friendly, cost-effective nanosilica. Experimental results revealed that nanosilica initially exhibited a low viscosity and hence providing a significant advantage in terms of mixing and pumping requirements. Nanosilica gelation time, which is a critical factor in placement of injected-chemical treatment, can be tailored by adjusting the activator concentration to match field requirements at the desired temperature. In addition, core flood tests were conducted in carbonate core plugs, Berea sandstone rock, and artificially fractured (metal tube) to investigate the performance of the chemical treatment. Flow tests clearly indicated that the water production significantly dropped in all tested types of rocks. The environmental scanning electron microscope (SEM) results showed the presence of SiO-rich compounds suggesting that the tested nanosilica product filled the porous media; therefore, it blocked the whole core plug. A novel cost-effective sealant that uses nanotechnology to block the near wellbore region has been developed. The performance and methods controlling its propagation rate into a porous medium will be presented. Based on the outcomes, it must be emphasized that these trivial particles have a promising application in the oil reservoir for water shutoff purposes.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This paper reviews the case history of a subsea well in the Gulf of Mexico that was completed with two zones that contained sliding sleeves for the purpose of closing off one zone if early water break-through occurred. Chemical tracers in solid form were integrated into the sand face completion at both locations. These tracers take the form of rods that can be installed into standard sand screens during manufacturing without modification to the screen. The tracer rods at each location release a unique chemical compound into the oil flowing from the interval. Samples of the produced oil are analyzed to determine the concentration of each unique tracer compounds from each interval. Upon well startup, the chemical tracers indicated that one sliding sleeve was RIH in the closed position. This insight triggered an intervention to open the sleeve, and the well was restored to expected production rates. The chemical tracers saved the operator from having to intervene into a live well to diagnose below-expectation performance. The solid chemical tracer technology can be used to monitor any completion component that is designed for separating and sealing off a production interval without incurring the high cost and risk of performing surveys on a flowing well. In addition, this technology can identify locations of water influx, gas influx and inflow distribution through several years of the well’s life.

Abstract (sommario):
A healthy indoor environment is becoming an increasingly important issue. As the use of various materials in inhabited interiors increases, so does the concentration of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in these spaces. The actual trend of reducing energy consumption in buildings, such as by using perfectly sealing windows and doors, contributes to this increase. Consequently, people moving around in these interiors experience a rise in health problems due to the elevated concentrations of VOCs. This study aimed to assess the indoor air quality (IAQ) in naturally ventilated primary schools located in the southern Czech region. Two classrooms were selected from each primary school based on similar characteristics, such as building construction, volume, windows structure, area of windows, number of occupants, activities, type of furniture, and internal covering including flooring, wall, and ceiling. The classrooms were continuously occupied during school hours for a total of 25-35 hours per week and unoccupied during afternoons and weekends. The study focused on measuring the concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the classrooms, as well as assessing their impact on health. The study highlights the importance of monitoring IAQ in naturally ventilated primary schools and can be useful for policymakers and school administrators in developing strategies to improve IAQ and promote the health and well-being of students and staff.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Qualification of tubular connections is an important task in well completion design for thermal wells, which experience peak temperatures of 180°C to 350°C, as well as high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) wells, which experience peak temperatures up to 180°C and pressures greater than 70 MPa. Industry protocols (such as ISO/PAS 12835:2013 for thermal wells, and ISO 13679:2019 and API RP 5C5:2017 for HPHT wells) have been developed for the purposes of evaluating the structural integrity and sealability of premium connections. In recognition of the the time and capital expense associated with completing "product line validation" for a connection design per these standards for multiple physical configurations (i.e for combinations of various sizes, weights, and grades), industry is developing a hybrid approach that supplements results from physical qualification tests with numerical simulation, such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA). To facilitate numerical modeling, extensive research work has been performed recently (e.g. Xie, Matthew, and Hamilton (2016) and Xie and Matthew (2017)) to establish a constitutive relationship for evaluating metal-to-metal sealability. It was noted in previous studies that further experimental work is required to better understand connection sealing behavior, especially the effects of surface roughness and thread compounds. This paper presents an experimental study with a series of small-scale metal-to-metal seal tests under various levels of seal contact stress and gas pressures representative of thermal and HPHT operational conditions. These tests incorporated the effects of surface roughness and thread compound. FEA was performed to model the stress conditions in the test specimens. Based on the experimental and analytical study, an updated metal-to-metal seal evaluation criterion with calibrated parameters is proposed for tubular connections used in thermal and HPHT applications.

Abstract (sommario):
Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI) required guidelines for pipeline valve stem seals in CO2 rich applications such as for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and carbon capture and storage (CCS). In particular, guidance was needed to ascertain when standard O-rings may be used, when a switch to rapid gas decompression (RGD) resistant O-rings is recommended and when O-rings should be replaced by more robust energized lip seals and/or by more robust seal materials. The guidelines would interface with both NORSOK M 710 Rev. 3 and ISO 23936-2, and give specific details on procedures, steps and decisions that have to be taken when attempting to qualify seals for dense phase CO2 use. In order to develop these guidelines, two well established sealing compounds having proven RGD resistance were selected for study, along with two materials which were not known for their RGD resistance. RGD testing was performed on housed O-rings of each compound using 4 different gas compositions that cover an appropriate range of field conditions for CO2 applications.

Also for the 20 bar/min rates the number of RGD cycles was increased to 50 to see how robust the seal materials could be.
