Abstract (sommario):
When traditional methods integrate popular science microanimation works, the integration effect of the animation works is not good. In this paper, we propose an automatic integration algorithm of popular science microanimation works in the context of new media. The system first analyzes the characteristics of the new media context and gives the meaning of microanimation in the context of new media. It simplifies the edge folding of popular science microanimation integration and calculates the Facial Animation Parameter (FAP) value to realize the automatic integration of popular science microanimation works. We conducted a number of experiments using various size datasets to test the proposed system. We achieved an average integration accuracy of 96.3% with datasets of 500 to 3000 animation works, having the highest accuracy of 99% with a dataset of 500 animation works. On the other hand, the integration time of the animation works was recorded just 1.25 seconds with a dataset of 3000 animation works which is much lower than the existing work.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract This contribution aims to examine the scientific relationship between Giuseppe Toaldo and Jérôme Lalande, focusing on two works by the French astronomer which Toaldo translated into Italian. The first text is the Abregé d’ Astronomie (Compendio d’Astronomia, Padova: Stamperia del Seminario, 1777), addressed to students of astronomy; the second one is the Astronomie des Dames (Astronomia delle Dame, [Venezia]: Giacomo Storti, 1796), written for a female public to which Toaldo interestingly added the appendix Astronomia de’ Gentiluomini (Venezia, 1797). These works clearly testify Toaldo’s deep interest in the teaching and spreading of astronomy, an interest Toaldo shared with Lalande. The contacts between the two astronomers we will be displaying will also allow us to make some hypothesis about two splendid globes, a terrestrial and a celestial one. It is unknown how they arrived in the library of the Episcopal Seminar of Padova, where they are preserved today.

Abstract (sommario):
This article is dedicated to examination of works of the film directors of the Leningrad popular science film studio “Lennauchfilm” in the 1970s – 1980s. Based on the archival documents presented in the Central Archive of Literature and Art of Saint Petersburg, the author analyzes the work of the film studio: carries out classification of filmography by formal-semantic criterion, as well as determines the key processes typical to this time period. The following main trends are highlighted: natural science, technical-propagandistic, historical-revolutionary, military-patriotic, social life, history of art and culture. Special attention is given to the films that cover the topics, which have not previously been included in the field of popular science cinematography. The novelty of this research lies in classification of the thematic trends of the Leningrad film studio as an integral artistic system, as well as in comparison of the plots of popular science film texts by each direction over the two decades. As a result, the author identified the main trends, which broadened the thematic field in the work of the studio, as well as fundamentally changed the representations on the goals and tasks of popular science cinematography. The key object of popular science cinematography is being shifted during the Perestroika period. Emphasis is place not on science and technological achievements, but human and society. Film directors through their works conveyed the attitude of society towards science, raising the questions of transformation of ethics and morality in the context of scientific and technological revolution. The idea of the harm of scientific achievements and responsibility of the scholars before society is being advanced. Without any doubt, the works of the Leningrad film directors broadened the ideological-artistic range by offering the own vision of specificity of the Soviet popular science cinematography.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractCommunicative contract analysis constructs an analytic methodology, taking musical semiotics as a theoretical basis, to look at the ways in which pieces of popular music define themselves generically, and how they make reference to other genres. By taking the different components of a sound as referential to parent genres or foreign genres, one can tease out these references in hybrid musical forms. The method is then applied to three contemporary works, The Kaiser Chiefs' Ruby, Hadouken!'s That Boy, That Girl and Bjork's Joga, and the pertinent issues raised in these works are discussed.

Abstract (sommario):
The present paper is devoted to the overview of the beginnings and development of the genre of science fiction in Latvian literature. Similarly to other popular fiction genres, science fiction in Latvian literature has not been very popular due to social and historical reasons; however, during the course of the 20th century several authors have at least partially approached the genre and created either fully fledged science fiction works or literary works with science fiction elements in them. The paper looks at the first attempts to create science fiction-related works during the beginning of the 20th century; it then provides an insight into three epochs when the genre received comparatively wider attention: 1) the 1930s produced mainly adventure novels with elements of science fiction mirroring the correspondent world tendencies of that time period; 2) the period between the 1960s and 80s saw authors who had the courage to leave the strict platform of Soviet Social Realism, experimenting with a variety of science fiction elements in the postmodern literary context which allowed for a wide metaphoric interpretation. This epoch also saw the emergence of a specific phenomenon – humorous / satiric science fiction which the authors employed in order to offer social criticism of the Soviet lifestyle; 3) the beginning of the 21st century saw the emergence of several science fiction works by a new generation of writers: these works presently comprise the majority of newly published science fiction. The paper outlines the main tendencies of the newest Latvian science fiction such as authors experimenting with a variety of themes, the preference for dystopian future scenarios and humour. The paper offers brief conclusions as to the possible future of Latvian science fiction in context of the current developments in the genre.

Abstract (sommario):
In an increasingly mediated culture, social institutions such as science, public health, and civic engagement exist within the same modes of discourse as popular media. As a human endeavor, science is also a cultural phenomenon, and there are webs of multidirectional and layered communication that occur between formal science communication, pop science, and, indeed, popular media. For public participants, engagement with science and entertainment may be one in the same. This essay draws from research of transformative works, fan studies, and memetics to examine how the public engages with science and popular media within digital cultures.

Abstract (sommario):
The article identifies and analyzes the formation of images of the past in popular music on the example of the tracks from the album “Heroes” by the band “Sabaton”. The work studies the representations of the war images in popular music in the context of the original works of the musical group “Sabaton”, interviews of musicians, reviews of fans and critics, as well as videos of the popular science YouTube channel of the group. The author develops studies of representations of the military history images in the context of culture and the arts, using popular music, which is unpopular in research, but a large-scale and ubiquitous phenomenon. Through the involvement of audiovisual sources (video clips and performances at concerts), as well as interviews and video materials of the popular science channel, the author reveals an issue of narrativization and glorification of the historical past and its participants, the creation of completely new images and plots by the Swedish group in the context of representations of the past. The involvement and analysis of the works from the popular science channel “Sabaton History” allows to identify the background for the creation of songs by the Swedish band, to find out the opinions of musicians and a professional historian responsible for maintaining the channel. The example considered in the article demonstrates how popular music works with images of the past, and how the techniques of representation may vary depending on different cultural and linguistic contexts.

Abstract (sommario):
By adopting the corpus-based approach, the present study compares the frequency of use, semantic distribution, and stance expression of shell nouns in the “N + that” clause in popular science discourse compared with academic writing. The results show that, firstly, the frequency of use of shell nouns in the “N + that” clause in popular science is lower than that in academic discourse. Secondly, the semantic coverage of shell nouns in popular science discourse is smaller than that in academic discourse, but its semantic proportion distribution is roughly the same, mainly including mental and linguistic shell nouns. Thirdly, in popular science discourse and academic discourse, the proportion of shell nouns with epistemic stances occupies an absolute advantage, while the proportion of shell nouns with attitudinal stances is less. The proportion of shell nouns expressing attitudinal stance in popular science discourse is greater than that in academic discourse.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This chapter reviews the literature examining interventions to reduce indoor tanning (IT). The first objective was to highlight programs that show promise for large scale dissemination. The second objective was to promote criteria and standards for future intervention research efforts. The scope of interest for this review includes universal (for everyone in the population), selective (for those in the population who are at a greater risk), and indicated (for those who already are experiencing conditions that identify them as at risk) programs. The evaluation of the interventions resulted in three levels of evidence: (1) most promising, (2) emerging, and (3) mixed. For an intervention to be considered “most promising”, it was required that ten criteria be met through examination of research findings in published reports consistent with Flay and colleagues (Prev Sci 6(3):151–175, 2005). Interventions that were classified as “emerging” met most of the criteria. Finally, interventions classified as “mixed” did not reach threshold on more than two criteria that were deemed critical. The results revealed that there was very limited research on IT interventions that meet all the evaluation criteria. Only one intervention approach met all of the criteria (Appearance Booklet) (Hillhouse and Turrisi, Behav Med 25(4):395–409, 2002; Hillhouse et al., Cancer 113(11):3257–3266, 2008). Although the number of published papers in the IT area has increased dramatically over the past decade, these efforts have yet to translate into rigorously conducted intervention trials. The review points to important issues that need to be addressed in future research on the prevention of IT. Keywords

Hillhouse, Joel J., e Rob Turrisi. "Motivations for Indoor Tanning: Theoretical Models". Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 2016. https://dc.etsu.edu/etsu-works/63.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This chapter reviews the literature applying health behavior theories to indoor tanning. Few studies have tried to fit full versions of health behavior models to indoor tanning. Theoretical models from the family of theories referred to as the reasoned action approach (e.g., theory of planned behavior, behavioral alternative model, prototype willingness model, etc.) have been most commonly used to study indoor tanning. Results indicate that these models fit indoor tanning data moderately to extremely well. Two lesser known models, problem behavior theory and the terror management health model, have also demonstrated a reasonable fit. Two other common models, the health belief model and social cognitive theory, have never been fully tested with indoor tanning. However, key constructs from these models (e.g., perceived susceptibility and threat, modeling) have been used to understand indoor tanning. Empirical research conducted represents a solid start toward developing strong, comprehensive models of indoor tanning that can guide intervention efforts. This initial work needs to be expanded by conducting longitudinal studies and by including a broader age range in studies because the majority of existing work has focused on young adults. Incorporating findings related to tanning dependency, peer group affiliation, media influences and other constructs into these foundational models will also improve our understanding and ability to develop efficacious interventions to reduce engagement in this health risk behavior.

Meyer, Anna Jane. "The fairy tales of science : a study of popular science books". Phd thesis, 2005. http://hdl.handle.net/1885/112085.

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
A visit to any major bookstore reveals a group of books that fit within the genre entitled ‘Popular Science’. On these shelves, a diverse collection of texts can be found, on topics as varied as evolution, space travel, astronomy, biography and science history. Defined here as ‘books about science which do not require a specialist knowledge in the subject of the book in order to be read, enjoyed and understood’, popular science books are a significant science communication medium. Despite this, and the apparent recent increase in the popularity of these books, little critical evaluation of the genre exists. A reason given for this is that the popular science book genre is very diverse, making analysis difficult. In this thesis, two avenues of research were undertaken to begin to aid this situation. First, a study was carried out to identify and characterise the sub-genres that exist within the popular science book genre. This revealed that the genre can be divided into 12 distinct categories, each with unique defining features. A ‘diagram of relationships’ for the categories within the genre was also developed. Following this, the features of a group of bestsellers in one of the identified categories, ‘Stories of Scientific Endeavours or Events’, was investigated. From this, a list of common characteristics of successful popular science books was compiled for this category. The results of both lines of research were then applied and exemplified in the production of an ‘artifact of science communication’ - a new, full-length popular science book on ancient DNA research: Hunting the Double Helix: How DNA is solving puzzles of the past (published by Allen & Unwin in 2005).

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe COVID-19 pandemic caused despair, poverty and, above all, pain and death across the planet. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that it has also given a strong global impetus to the digital world, asserting its importance, sustainability and richness of perspectives. With our work we intend to establish a set of best practices aimed at defining methods and technologies that will enable those fascinated by digital technologies to contribute effectively to the digitisation of cultural heritage on a large scale. Various aspects that play a crucial role in the digitisation of artifacts will be discussed, with a focus on the issues involved in the manual realisation of works using Blender and Unity software. For demonstration purposes, two very popular use cases in the Umbria region of Italy are presented: “Piazza IV Novembre” in Perugia with the magnificent “Fontana Maggiore”, the “Palazzo dei Priori” and the Duomo on one side and the Republic square in Foligno on the other, with the Duomo, the Bishop’s house and the Diocesan Museum, the Town Hall and “Palazzo Trinci”. The first realization was carried out using photogrammetry techniques, the software Blender and Unity, while the second was carried out exclusively with Blender and Unity. The theme is highly relevant in Europe, particularly Italy, where the topic is part of the post-COVID-19 National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

Testo completo
Abstract (sommario):
This chapter explores works that engage with the art and science of taxidermy and the construction of dioramas for museums of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries. While many artists have rejected taxidermy, given its association with cruelty toward animals, some have reclaimed the practice with the purpose of drawing attention to histories of animal objectification or rethinking human/animal relations. Recent recourses to taxidermy among Latin American artists have provided an opportunity to question of the exhibition practices of natural history museums, while exploring alternative ways of thinking about ecology and the environment. The projects I discuss in this chapter by Daniel Malva (Brazil), Adriana Bustos (Argentina), Rodrigo Arteaga (Chile), Walmor Corrêa (Brazil), and Pablo La Padula (Argentina) remediate, recycle or reuse taxidermy animals within new forms of diorama that construct a critical dialogue with Eurocentric conceptions of nature. They create “afterlives” for taxidermy animals that are held in tension between nature and culture or science and popular myth; they also demonstrate how taxidermy may—paradoxically—be deployed to restore animal agency and to create narratives that are less anthropocentric.

Abstract (sommario):
This chapter examines popular sexology in Japan during the period 1945–1970 by focusing on the career of Takahashi Tetsu, one of the country's most prominent sexual scientists in the post-World War II era. Takahashi promulgated a liberal version of Freudianism, particularly his acceptance of the ubiquity of “sexual perversity,” and collected, published, and thereby helped popularize a wide variety of information about sexuality. After providing an overview of Takahashi's prewar influences and activities, the chapter considers the spread of sexological knowledge during the time of Occupation (1945–1952). It then shows how Takahashi mobilized the works of Alfred C. Kinsey and other Western sexual scientists in the early 1950s and attempted to synthesize them with what he saw as an indigenous Japanese approach. It concludes with a discussion of Takahashi's legacy in the field of sexual science.

Abstract (sommario):
This chapter describes and analyzes books where fantasy is the dominant element and acquires vivid degrees of visuality. Adhering to a chronological order, analyses of Moebius’ Arzach, Enki Bilal’s Nikopol trilogy, and Yslaire’sXXeCielare carried out and concluded by comparisons between these works and other popular examples of fantastic comics. In order to underscore the degrees of openness between comics generated by images, JarmoMäkilä’sTaxi Ride through Van Gogh’s Earis then discussed. The importance of Moebius’ books comes through their visual detail and the subsequent encouragement of intensive visuality and experimentation with form usually ascribed to the fine arts. The comics by Bilal, Yslaire, and Mäkilä indicate both the extent and the ways in which conventional comics have been altered:adhering more strongly to comics conventions, Bilal’s and Mäkilä’s comics offer diverse options of interpretation through, for instance, intertextual and intermedial references.

Abstract (sommario):
Numerous software solutions implementing the structure-from-motion/multi-view stereo (SFM/MVS) 3D reconstruction approach have been made available over the last two decades. Hence, enabling the production of high quality, in terms of geometry and colour information, 3D objects using solely unordered image sequences depicting a static scene or objects from arbitrary viewpoints. Nowadays, SFM/MVS-based 3D reconstruction approaches constitute a popular solution in a variety of applications within many research domains including cultural heritage. However, as with all 3D reconstruction approaches, SfM/MVS has its limitations and applicability challenges. In this chapter, the authors attempt to provide a set of guidelines that are based on the important outcomes of published works that propose solutions to overcome some of the challenges introduced by non-friendly to SfM/MVS scenes or objects.

Abstract (sommario):
Cloud computing is getting more popular due to its extraordinary features such as on-demand availability of computing resources and software services. A variety of services have been deployed to offer analogous functionalities. However, the difficulty to identify reliable services has fascinated the attention of researchers. Thus, the trust and reputation concept have been introduced to evaluate the trustworthiness of services over cloud. Most of the existing research works fully trust on service user's feedback rating for ranking cloud services, which may often lead to biasness towards positive and negative feedback rating. To avoid aforementioned issues, this chapter proposes a novel approach to evaluate cloud service reputation along with cloud service reputation evaluation model to discover reliable cloud services. Experimental result shows that proposed approach provides effective solution for prediction of cloud service reputation, which can be helpful in performing reliable service discovery and selection over cloud.

Abstract (sommario):
Altmetric research has seen its horizons expanded to the heterogeneity of interactions produced between scientific and non-scientific entities. In this context, Wikipedia stands out as a social media of particular interest as the page views of its articles have proven to be a valuable metric of social attention. The aim of this paper is to contribute to this new research stream by analysing whether the research topics of greatest academic interest align with those that attract the most social attention. To this end, the OpenAlex concepts are explored by comparing their works count with the page views of their respective Wikipedia articles. As a result, a correlation analysis between the two metrics reveals a lack of connection between the two realms. Likewise, root-level concepts are explored to illustrate such a difference.

Abstract (sommario):
Benefited from its reliability and convenience, biometric identification has become one of the most popular authentication technologies. Due to the sensitivity of biometric data, various privacy-preserving biometric identification protocols have been proposed. However, the low computational efficiency or the security vulnerabilities of these protocols limit their wide deployment in practice. To further improve the efficiency and enhance the security, in this project, propose two new privacy-preserving biometric identification outsourcing protocols. One mainly utilizes the efficient Householder transformation and permutation technique to realize the high-efficiency intention under the known candidate attack model. The other initializes a novel random split technique and combines it with the invertible linear transformation to achieve a higher security requirement under the known-plaintext attack model. Also, we argue the security of our proposed two protocols with a strict theoretical analysis and, by comparing them with the prior existing works, comprehensively evaluate their efficiency.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) is an increasingly popular approach for additive manufacturing (AM) of metals. However, parts produced by LPBF are prone to residual stresses, deformations, and other defects linked to nonuniform temperature distribution during the process. Several works have highlighted the important role (laser) scanning strategies, including laser power, scan speed, scan pattern and scan sequence, play in achieving uniform temperature distribution in LPBF. However, scan sequence continues to be determined offline based on trial-and-error or heuristics, which are neither optimal nor generalizable. To address these weaknesses, we present a framework for intelligent online scan sequence optimization to achieve uniform temperature distribution in LPBF. The framework involves the use of physics-based models for online optimization of scan sequence, while data acquired from in-situ thermal sensors provide correction or calibration of the models. The proposed framework depends on having: (1) LPBF machines capable of adjusting scan sequence in real-time; and (2) accurate and computationally efficient models and optimization approaches that can be efficiently executed online. The first challenge is addressed via a commercially available open-architecture LPBF machine. As a preliminary step towards tackling the second challenge, an analytical model is explored for determining the optimal sequence for scanning patterns in LPBF. The model is found to be deficient but provides useful insights into future work in this direction.

Abstract (sommario):
Agricultural products, such as, vegetables are generally perishable and are difficult to store. Drying is one method to reduce the increase their shelf life. Dehydrators use different type of energy as per availability and requirement. Solar dehydrators are more popular since they use renewable solar energy. In this paper such a domestic passive solar dehydrator is designed and analysed for its utility and effectiveness. The dehydrator is designed for converting the perishable agricultural products into powders so that it can be stored and used for longer time. It is designed in two parts. The first part work as a solar energy collector and the second part works as the dehydrator. The heat from solar radiations is imparted to the air in the solar collector. This hot air is used in dehydrator foe drying agricultural products. The experimentation has been performed for different temperatures and flow velocity of air varying for different vegetables depending on their moisture content and time required to remove the moisture. It is observed that drying at different temperature is required for different vegetables to convert them into powder. The taste and colour of the powder produced are found to be good. Therefore, it is suitable and affordable even for farmers with lesser quantity of products.

Abstract (sommario):
In recent years, dance has become a popular entertainment for many people and also an occupation. As a dancer, sometimes it is hard to check how close your cover is vs. the choreographer's because our eyes are not always accurate when we are judging dynamic movement of people, so can artificial intelligence help us to do the work? This paper develops an application which utilizes artificial intelligence, and data analysis skills to develop an application which works on dance scoring [4]. In the application, users can upload two videos, one is their own cover while another one is the original choreography. Then, the application will use MediaPipe to catch the angles of dancers’ bodies in frames then store them in a data abstraction [5]. After all data are collected, the application will use clustering to line up the frames and angles information that are stored. The steps above will be applied to both videos. Next, the application will use an algorithm to compare two videos’ data and calculate a percentage of error of the covering video to the original choreograph and report a grade to the user. We applied our application to users who want to check how similar their covering dances are compared to the original choreographs in order to improve their covering quality [6]. The results show that when users are improving the quality of their covers, they improve their skills of focusing and optimizing details in dance.

Abstract (sommario):
Dynamic changes in Russian social life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the elimination of its rigid ideological framework influenced the development of our society. The turning points were not limited to economic and political changes. There was a radical change in the worldview paradigm, which, accordingly, influenced the content of ideals, values, life-sense attitudes, and rules of social interaction. The rearrangement of the components of the spiritual and semantic core of culture at the end of the 1990s testified to a crisis in this area. It was the crisis processes in culture that predetermined the further search for its adequate interpretation and, in this regard, aroused tremendous research interest in its genesis, structure, driving forces and internal potential. Undoubtedly, attention to this phenomenon is also connected with the fact that culture in modern conditions is becoming the dominant social force. No social phenomenon can take place outside of culture and independently of it. This means that cardinal changes in society entail changes in the system of its norms and values, i.e. cultural change, and conversely, change in culture is necessarily accompanied by a shift in the social field. Regulating interpersonal interactions, cultural systems, first of all, semantic complexes (ideas, norms, values) constitute any social phenomenon. Accordingly, in modern philosophy, interest in culture as a factor in creative life and social development is becoming more acute. At the beginning of the 20th century, in the extremely specific conditions of “Russian life”, representatives of Russian religious philosophy directed their creative search to comprehending the essence of culture and determining ways out of the crisis. In this regard, it seems relevant to appeal to the ideas of such philosophers as S.N. Bulgakov, N.A. Berdyaev, who comprehend the fate of Russian culture and put forward a number of provisions that determine the understanding of this phenomenon. In line with the assessment of culture as a factor in social life order, the topic is relevant, which highlights the problematic field of analysis outlined by representatives of Russian religious philosophy of the late XIX - early XX centuries. This is the understanding of culture as a specific holistic organism, as a way of familiarizing a person with the spiritual essence of the world, as a value space oriented towards ideals. This is a deep faith in culture, its interpretation as a means of spiritual life, in which the personal beginning of a person is revealed. At the beginning of the 20th century, the selfdetermination of Russian religious philosophy took place in the context of an appeal to the spiritual heritage, including the religious one. And already self-determined as such, Russian religious thought reflects on the state of national culture. One of the most popular problems of the beginning of the 20th century is the problem of the cultural crisis. The religious concept of culture is inherent in the desire to comprehend the essence of culture in order to open the way from a crisis state to renewal and cultural revival. The Russian thought of this period is distinguished by the breadth of its consideration of the theme of the crisis: from theoretical and historical-cultural analysis to sharp socio-philosophical journalism. The concept of the crisis of culture, developed by Russian religious philosophers, is the basis of their own philosophy of culture. Representatives of this trend focus their creative search on determining ways out of the crisis, therefore, addressing this issue in the presence of a tendency to overcome the cultural crisis that began in Russian society at the end of the 19th century is also relevant. It should be noted that the identified problems, the topics developed by Russian religious philosophers of the late XIX - early XX century are polemical both in theoretical terms and in the context of the realities of modern Russian culture. Is culture a space of absolute values? Is it possible to truly understand culture in detachment from social pragmatics? Why should human activity necessarily be associated with ideals and values? Should a philosophical approach to understanding culture be based on historical realities? Is it possible to identify the concept of culture as a whole with spiritual culture? What is a crisis - cultural exhaustion or being without cultural orientation? The answers to these and many other questions, one way or another touched upon by representatives of this trend, no doubt introduce new aspects into the philosophical vision of culture, enrich modern cultural and philosophical knowledge and, which is very important, contribute to an in-depth understanding of Russian cultural processes of the new millennium.

Abstract (sommario):
Automotive manufacturers are continuously striving to meet economic demands by designing and manufacturing more efficient and better performing vehicles. To aid this effort, many manufacturers are using different design strategies such to reduce the overall size/weight of certain automotive components without compromising strength or durability. Stainless steel is a popular material for such uses (i.e. bumpers and fuel tanks) since it possesses both high strength and ductility, and it is relatively light for its strength. However, with current forming processes (e.g., hot working, incremental forming, and superplastic forming), extremely complex components cannot always be easily produced, thus, limiting the potential weight-saving and performance benefits that could be achieved otherwise. Electrically-Assisted Manufacturing (EAM) is an emerging manufacturing technique that has been proven capable of significantly increasing the formability of many automotive alloys, hence the “electroplastic effect”. In this technique, electricity can be applied in many ways (e.g., pulsed, cycled, or continuous) to metals undergoing different types of deformation (e.g., compression, tension, bending). When applied, the electricity lowers the required deformation forces, increases part displacement or elongation, and can reduce or eliminate springback in formed parts. Within this study, the effects of EAM on the bending of 304 Stainless Steel sheet metal will be characterized and modeled for different die widths and electrical flux densities. In previous works, EAM has proven to be highly successful on this particular material. Comparison of 3-point bending force profiles for non-electrical baseline tests and various EAM tests will help to illustrate electricity’s effectiveness. An electroplastic bending coefficient will be introduced and used for modeling an electrically-assisted bending process. Additionally, the springback reductions attained from EAM will be quantified and compared. From this work, a better overall understanding of the effects and benefits of EAM on bending processes will be explained.

Abstract (sommario):
One of the most popular oppositions in the literature of the Great Patriotic War period was the opposition of hatred of the enemy and love of the Motherland . It appeared in the first days of the ilitary confrontation and caused the presence of the category of “hatred” in the works of various genres, most of all in journalism. Th article is based on the analysis of A.N. Tolstoy's article I Call for Hatred (1941) and M.A. Sholokhov's story Th Science of Hatred (1942). Th word category itself is used in the article as a concept that refl the characteristic properties of the reality perception. In Tolstoy's article, the category of hatred passes the way from a destructive feeling to a constructive one. Th writer proposes to awaken hatred in oneself - not the black one which destroys the soul but the bright one, the sacred one, <…> which unites and elevates, which will give birth to the heroes of our front and triple the strength of the rear workers. Sholokhov's work is a story about how its protagonist, Lieutenant Gerasimov, learned to hate the enemy. It was not a voluntary process as he started the war as a man who read and loved the books of German writers and somehow got used to respecting the German people. The title of the work can be read in two ways. It may be seen as an indication of one of the components of the person's worldview during the war and as a description of the difficult and inhuman process which led to the emergence of the relevant feeling.
