Abstract (sommario):
Women in rural areas face numerous economic and social barriers, primarily due to unequal access to public services, and limited educational and employment opportunities. Moreover, there is insufficient statistical data to adequately monitor gender equality indicators in rural and urban areas, leading to the economic and social invisibility of (rural) women. The aim of this article is to examine the inequalities between women and men in urban and rural areas in terms of basic socio-economic indicators, education, and employment. In order to contribute to the importance of gender-specific data and analysis, a secondary analysis of data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics’ [CBS] database regarding several indicators important for monitoring gender equality has been conducted. The data shows that there are inequalities between rural and urban areas and between the genders. In urban areas, significantly more women obtain a university degree than in rural areas, the employment rate of women in rural areas is many times lower than in urban areas, and the availability of certain public services, such as pre-school education (kindergarten), is still significantly lower despite positive changes in rural areas.

Abstract (sommario):
In spite of the official goals of support for rural tourism promulgated by governmental bodies, rural tourism remains a marginal phenomenon. This lack of confidence in rural tourism has relatively deep roots. The basis for this is almost of an ontological nature and consists in opposition, although subconscious, against “commodified authenticity”. Another source of this lack of confidence lies in the fact that rurality, the main attractive feature of tourism, has been substantially impaired as a result of trends in the 20th century. A third reason follows from the combination of rural tourism and mass recreation, as well as inadequate response by governmental bodies and authorities to the risks for regional stability, based on unmanaged mass tourism.

Abstract (sommario):
The peculiarity of the modern stage experienced by Kazakhstan is that its development and formation as a sovereign state occurs in the era of tectonic shifts in the socio-economic structure of society, the change of socio-economic system, the transition from socialist formation to the capitalist path of development. Solution of socio-economic problems associated with the need for radical changes in the development of rural areas is due to the transition to a market economy. Conducting deep agrarian reforms and radical transformations in the socio-economic structure of rural areas, the development and use of natural resources of territories, rationally placed productive forces of the country depends on the efficiency of functioning and development of the economy.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper describes the role of rural tourism for the sustainable development of rural areas and stresses out the importance of strategic approach in the planning of their development. The author identifies core problems, which eliminate their use and disable individual strategies set by some entrepreneurs in rural tourism. Concretely it is the absence of developing projects and focus on the development of individual villages. Then it is the lack of will to cooperate, local resources are not effectively used and the local community is not adequately involved.

Abstract (sommario):
Quality of bronchoscopy performed by one single pulmonologist in a scarcely populated subarctic area was compared to the guidelines provided by the British Thoracic Society (BTS). 103 patients underwent bronchoscopy. Diagnostic yield was increased to 76.6% when the first bronchoscopy was supplemented by bronchial washing fluid and brush cytology and to 86.7% (BTS guidelines >80%) after a second bronchoscopy. Median time from referral to bronchoscopy was 10 days and 8 days from positive bronchoscopy to operative referral to another hospital. 1% of patients that underwent transbronchial lung biopsy had minor complications. One pulmonologist had rate of correct diagnosis based on visible endobronchial tumors that was comparable to the rates of numerous pulmonologists at larger centers performing the same procedure. Time delay was short. Rate of complications was comparable. Bronchoscopy performed by one pulmonologist alone could, in organized settings, be carried out at local hospitals in areas of scattered settlement.

Abstract (sommario):
Currently, labor relations in modern Russia are regulated on the basis of the Constitution of the Russian Federation (1993), the norms of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, and other regulatory legal acts adopted at the federal level and in the subjects of the Russian Federation. Legal acts containing employment and labour statutes were also adopted by local self-government bodies until 2006. The rural area is a place of labor and economic activity mainly for residents of rural settlements. The spheres of labor relations are usually agriculture and forestry, and in some regions, subsurface resources management and other types of economic activity. The main legal document regulating the complex of relations, including labor relations, in agriculture is the Federal Law “On the Agriculture Development” and legal acts of agrarian legislation adopted at the level of federal authorities and in the subjects of the Russian Federation. Labor activity in the field of forest management is regulated by the Forest Code of the Russian Federation and regulatory legal acts of forest legislation. Labor relations in other spheres of economic activity in rural areas are regulated by relevant legal acts at the federal level and at the level of the subjects of the Russian Federation. In addition to production organizations in rural areas, there are non-profit entities in which rural residents work. A significant number of the rural population is employed in private subsidiary farmings.

Abstract (sommario):
The paper deals with the quality of life in Czech rural areas and its measurement. The first part is focused on the introduction of the term “quality of life“, with particular emphasis on its analytic uses and the related issues. Building on the up to date research, we go on to conceptualize the term into seven groups of indicators. In the next part, we deal with living conditions in Czech rural areas and build our hypotheses, based upon them. We employ the methods of statistical analysis of the European Social Survey data to perform a rural vs. non-rural comparison for each of the seven dimensions identified. In the final part, we discuss the findings and match the conclusions with the current trends in Czech rural areas.

Abstract (sommario):
The articles deals with problems of different development of rural areas and their factors. In usual analysis of rural development, the position of agriculture is interpreted in broad range of opinions from the neglectable role to its non-substitutability in rural economics. The article follows strong sides of these concepts at simultaneous reduction of their weaknesses and is focused on problems of investigation of the mutual influence of endogenous as well as exogenous industries on rural regions. Applied approach leads to setting up model of economic base and deriving of multiplicators of rural development. It is obvious from the analysis that nonagricultural subsidy programs supporting development of the others industries in region have indirect influence upon its agriculture too. In different regions, this influence varies due to the factors investigated in the paper.

Abstract (sommario):
Background: There is a higher prevalence of mental distress in rural areas compared to urban areas in Indonesia. The rural areas of Indonesia have various socio-demographic and sophisticated cultural characteristics, but less exposed to foreign cultures. Thus, the study about the prevalence, associated factors, and predictors of mental distress in rural areas is necessary.Purpose: This study aimed to identify the population's status and related factors of mental distress in rural areas in Indonesia. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted to achieve the aims of the study. An Indonesian version of the Self-Rated Questionnaire, consisting of 20 items, was used to measure mental distress status of population in rural areas in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. A number of 872 records were included and analyzed using both univariate and bivariate analyses in this study. Results: The prevalence of mental distress in this population was 6%. The correlated factors of mental distress were age (χ2=6.93, p=0.01), gender (χ2=0.07, p=0.03), occupation (χ2=0.26, p=0.02), housing dimension (χ2=5.45, p=0.02), and illness status (χ2=0.01, p<0.01).Conclusion: The prevalence of mental distress in rural areas of Indonesia is relatively lower than that of the national level. Future mental health programs may be focused on improving mental health on the elderly, male, vulnerable workers, overcrowded housing, and people who got a chronic illness.

Abstract (sommario):
The article analyzes the socioeconomic problems in the rural areas of our country. The importance of adoptioning the state program of the Russian Federation “Comprehensive development of rural areas” for 2020-2025 and the need to solve a large-scale task related to the qualitative transformations of rural areas through the implementation of “the advantages of a rural lifestyle” are noted. The ongoing outflow of residents from rural areas to cities and a decline in the country’s indigenous population are revealed. The widespread self-employment of the population, ethno-entrepreneurship, and agritourism is becoming a reality in the Russian countryside. It is indicated that our country is still lagging behind many countries in terms of labor productivity, development of the technological base of agriculture and, in general, in terms of the standard of living of the rural population. The classification of factors of growth of labor productivity in the agricultural sphere is given. Measures are proposed to change the socio-economic policy of the state in relation to rural areas. The importance of the development of rural cooperation, the creation of conditions for the growth of incomes of rural residents is determined. It is important that economic support is received not only by large agricultural firms, but also by peasant (farm) farms; the development of large-scale commodity production should not compromise the interests of small farms, the people who work in them. It is necessary to create in rural areas the maximum possible set of various types of activities, primarily related to the efficient processing of agricultural products. It is also very important to develop the infrastructure of the agri-food market, including such areas of activity as storage, transportation and marketing of products, which is impossible without expanding and developing the training of specialists in the field of agriculture.

Abstract (sommario):
In this study, security and safety in rural parts of Sweden are investigated. New ways of organizing for efficient response can be found in the extended collaboration between societal sectors and in the utilization of local social capital. New categories of first responders and their requirements are identified and technical and non-technical solutions as support are proposed. The solutions include e.g. mobile applications and a technical infrastructure making it possible for volunteers to obtain information about events requiring emergency response. Emergency management in rural areas shows several similarities to large-scale crises, e.g. in terms of insufficient infrastructure available and the need to use local resources in the immediate aftermath of the event. Therefore, the results of the study can be transferable to large-scale crises.

Abstract (sommario):
Early psychosis (EP), in which the terms first-episode psychosis or first-break psychosis are also considered, is an area of developing research intensity. Although it is apparent that considerable progress has been made in establishing best practice criteria and protocols for EP in general, the particular issues pertaining to rural areas have not received the same attention. The purpose of the present study was to conduct a systematic review of the literature of early psychosis programmes, initiatives and research in rural areas in order to help establish the best available evidence. The authors conducted a systematic search of major electronic databases, based on the NHMRC hierarchy of evidence, an established scale, for identified early psychosis cross-referenced with multiple rural terms, between the years 1995 and 2005. A total of 637 articles met the initial search criteria; 206 were identified as having primary significance; three dealt specifically with rural areas. There is a paucity of research findings or published literature concerning the specific needs or characteristics of early psychosis practice or service delivery in rural areas. A number of inferences and suggestions for further research, investigations and policy directions are put forward for consideration.
