Testo completoMaize stands as a pillar of the French forage system, with its yield and silage feeding value serving as key criteria for the registration of maize hybrid varieties in the official French catalogue. Previous research on this topic has revealed a direct correlation between silage feeding value and dry matter (DM) digestibility, which is, in turn, constrained by cell wall (CW) digestibility and significantly affected by water deficit. Studies on maize inbred lines have shown that under severe water deficit conditions, both DM and CW digestibilities increase. This increase correlates with a decrease in lignin content and changes in lignin distribution. However, it is noteworthy that breeding efforts have already fixed lignin content in hybrid varieties. Therefore, lignin content is unlikely to be a source of future digestibility improvement. To explore other CW targets and the impact of water deficit on these traits, this PhD study was conducted as part of the Carnot Plant2Pro INRAE-ARVALIS MAMMA MIA project. We grew a range of modern forage maize hybrids representative of the current S0-S1 (very-early to early flowering earliness) French market for two years under sixteen contrasted environmental conditions, including six in controlled irrigation conditions. First, we established a simple but robust stress index (SID) that considers the water deficit in the soil and the air temperature. This SID provided a key environmental ranking tool, highlighting severe stress due to high temperature that significantly impacted DM digestibility compared to moderate stress conditions. Secondly, to encompass a wide range of environmental conditions in biochemical quantifications, we developed several predictive near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) equations capable of robustly and accurately predicting fine cell wall traits and relationships, mirroring levels observed in laboratory experiments. While these equations prove sufficiently robust for use in selection programs, we emphasize the need for vigilance in accurately estimating prediction accuracy under stress conditions, particularly in equations applied to hybrid material where trait variation ranges are often limited. The core dataset of this work enabled a multiscale analysis, integrating agroclimatic, agronomic, biochemical, and histological traits, along with in sacco experimental data on cows. We proposed biochemical and histological traits to improve the quality of forage maize depending on stress intensity. We demonstrated that under severe stress, ear production decreases significantly, but DM digestibility can be maintained by increasing CW digestibility. This boost in CW digestibility was due to a reduction in p-hydroxycinnamic acid content, while lignin content remained stable, as anticipated. The significance of lignin distribution increased with the severity of stress, reaching an extreme threshold where biochemical parameters solely account for digestibility variations. This two-threshold model presents a window of opportunity located at the first threshold between non-stressed and moderately stressed environments, where the increased role of lignin distribution alongside biochemical traits enabled an increase in digestible yield. By controlling irrigation doses in the field under moderate drought conditions and integrating the SID into an irrigation management tool, farmers could exploit this window to increase productivity

Testo completoThis thesis aims at investigating an alternative MultiCarrier Modulation (MCM) scheme, named OFDM Offset QAM (OFDM/OQAM), in the Power Line Communications (PLC) context. The objective of this thesis is to illustrate the pros and cons of the OFDM/OQAM compared with the widely used OFDM scheme and further demonstrate the feasibility of using OFDM/OQAM in PLC. The main contributions of this thesis include: 1) PLC channel analysis: we analyze the PLC channel from an information theory point of view; 2) Analytical transmission model: we derive a theoretical transmission model for the OFDM/OQAM system over frequency selective channel; 3) Prototype filter design criteria discussion: different criteria of prototype filter design are discussed in this thesis for PLC; 4) Channel equalization methods: we present two channel equalization methods in this thesis and the efficiency of the presented methods is evaluated by simulations; 5) Capacity analysis: the transmission capacities of the OFDM and the OFDM/OQAM are analyzed/compared in this thesis and the fact that, under the most recent HomePlug AV specifications, the OFDM/OQAM system can, generally, provide higher capacity than the one of OFDM system is shown; 6) Flexibility: we point out two flexibilities in the PLC contex

Testo completoThe research presented in this thesis focuses firstly on the reliability of PLC technology and secondly on the diagnosis of wired networks using PLC in the aeronautical sector. First of all, we studied the OFDM synchronization in a PLC communication chain for data transmission on avionic systems. The objective of the study is to make the PLC link more reliable by respecting the latency constraints set in the aeronautical domain. We introduced sampling frequency errors in order to analyze the effects of sampling frequency desynchronization on the bit error rate. We then proposed an optimized algorithm for error estimation. The second contribution of the thesis is devoted to the monitoring of embedded wired networks and the objective being to use PLC communication as a mean of detecting a fault. We focused our study on the detection of a fault following an electric arc, modeled by a parallel resistance, or a connection fault, modeled by a series resistance on a wire of the two-wired cable. In order to have the channel characteristics with and without faults, a test bench of a multi-branch harness has been designed with different resistive fault samples. We proposed several correlation-based fault detection coefficients, Euclidean distance, and a blind algorithm based on received symbols. In order to avoid false alarms or no detection, detection thresholds were discussed. The different detection coefficients and the thresholds were compared and tested in the presence of white noise in terms of the transmitted power and the detection rate

Testo completoThe automotive industry use more and more electronic for comfort, for the security,. . . However, the manufacturers observed a bottleneck in wiring harnesses. We propose to study a new communication network which does not need new wires: the power line communication (PLC). In a first step, we realized a study of feasibilty with indoor modem (HPAV & HD-PLC standard). Then, we studied and characterized the in-vehicle PLC channel thanks to measurements on four vehicles. Afterwards, a study (simulations) on the parameters of a multicarrier modulation showed that we can increase the inter-carrier spacing and reduce the guard intervall length compared with HPAV. Finally, we realized a flexible demonstrator which use a software-defined radio platform USRP2. The first results are similar with the simulations

Testo completoPhenolic resins, may be used in the wood industry for the manufacture of particle boards or plywood, after gluing, impregnation and/or hot-pressing steps. They are mainly obtained by step polymerization (polycondensation) from formaldehyde and phenol. These two raw materials are currently petrochemicals. This thesis work, supported by Rolkem, a company specialized in the design and manufacture of resol type phenolic resins, aims to reduce the use of non-biobased materials by replacing phenol with lignin exhibiting a phenolic structure and a structural similarity with the network of phenolic resins. Lignin is abundant in the environment and easily available. To achieve the industrialization of these new biobased resins, a study on the understanding of the reaction mechanisms has been carried out to favor the incorporation of lignin within the resins. It has been possible to replace up to 50wt.% of the phenol with organosolve lignin and to reduce the initial concentration of formaldehyde at the same time. 75wt.% substitution has been achieved using a Kraft lignin by reducing up to 30wt.% of the formaldehyde concentration as compared to conventional resins. The new biobased resins respect the Rolkem specifications. Thanks to this work results, the scale transfer of biobased resins from the laboratory scale to the industrial pilot was possible, while respecting industrial constraints such as productivity, quality, safety and environment. In addition, the industrial plywood bonding tests were in accordance with the prerequisite. In addition to the above objectives the reactivity of BiolignineTM with formaldehyde has been studied under conventional heating and microwave irradiation. This complementary study allows the correlation of the lignine-formaldehyde reactivity and the heating modes to specifically reach products resulting from addition or condensation reactions

Testo completoWe address the design of distributed systems with synchronous dataflow programming languages. As modular design entails handling both architectural and functional modularity, the first contribution is to extend an existing synchronous dataflow programming language with primitives allowing the description of a distributed architecture and the localization of some values or computations. A type system is defined, in order to infer the localization of non-annotated values and to en sure, at compilation time, the consistency of the distribution. This type system is used to define a type-directed projection operation to obtain automatically, from a centralized typed program, the local program to be executed by each computing resource. The program obtained by mean of this operation is proved to be semantically equivalent to the initial one. The type system as weil as the automatic distribution mechanism has been fully implemented in the Lucid Synchrone compiler

Testo completoA valorization of alkaline lignin from an industrial pulping liquor has been proposed for this project. Before considering any chemical modification or potential applications, the lignin structure has been elucidated. An efficient three-steps protocol for extraction and purification of lignin from industrial liquor has been established. This protocol leads to high purity sample of lignin (95%) and allows the recovery (68%) of the lignin initially present in the alkaline liquor. Alkaline lignin has been characterized utilizing analytical methods and thermogravimetric analysis. This precise structure elucidation was critical for proceeding to chemical modification of alkaline lignin. Chemical modification of alkaline lignin has been done by oxidation in alkaline media. Three major oxidized products have been isolated depending on the extraction solvent: oligomers bearing carboxylic groups and aromatic molecules. This thesis work led to the synthesis of value-added bio-sourced chemicals and functionalized oligomers. The polyacids from lignin obtained should be studied to form new biobased polymers such as polyesters, polyamids or polyurethanes

Testo completoIn a context of sustainable development, biomass and lignocellulosic materials are benefiting from a growing interest. Lignin has a unique chemical structure with aromatic backbone and a variety of functional groups, becoming a potential feedstock to substitute petroleum-based products. However, this complex structure and its limited solubility hinder its direct use. Those observations make lignin challenging. This work aims at valorizing alkaline lignin. Indeed, modifications, those concerning the hydroxyls and phenol functions, allow to modulate its solubility in various solvents and in various pH, increasing the range of potential applications. In this purpose, an oxidative depolymerization (by oxygen or air) of a lignoboost-type alkaline lignin have been realized to obtain lignin fraction enriched with carboxylic acid functions (the content of which is very low amount in the native lignin structure). In the first part, different reaction parameters (the nature of the oxidative gaz, pressure, temperature and reactor type used) have been optimized to increase the final yields in precipitated and hydrosoluble fractions, while maximizing the carboxylic acid ratio. This oxidative reaction also generated lignin oligomers of lower molecular weight, thus improving their solubility properties (especially for the hydrosoluble fraction which is water-soluble at any pH). The impact of this new functionalization have been studied to valorize these oligomers. Surfactants and antioxidant properties, taking advantage of lignin structure and functions, have been compared to alkaline lignin and lignosulfonates. The development of new blocking-UV films in a HPMC-lignin matrix allowed to achieve new solubility properties for the hydrosoluble lignin

Testo completoThe objective of this thesis is to study the conversion of lignin in oxidizing hydrothermal conditions, by heterogeneous catalysis. Lignin is among the main constituents of lignocellulose materials. Being considered like a waste of the cellulose valorization procedures, it is mostly burned to produce the energy. Taking into account its phenolic polymer structure, lignin can be considered as the main source of aromatic rings. Complex analytical methodology has initially been set up to allow a thorough characterization of lignins and oxidation products. Lignins were extracted from the straw by the organosolv procedure. The extraction process affects not only yields but also the structures and properties of products. The oxidation catalysts are transition metal oxides, synthesized by an alginate route. The oxidation of vanillin (lignin's model compound) shows the oligomerization phenomena of obtained products. In the oxidation of lignin, the use of a catalyst increases the yield and modifies the equilibrium of depolymerization - oligomerization

Testo completoLignin is the second most abundant biopolymer on earth and it consists of highly-branched, three dimensional aromatic structures with variety of functional groups, mainly phenolic and alcoholic functions. This research work was focused on derivatization methods to quantify hydroxyl groups in lignins and to determine lignin molar mass distribution by size-exclusion chromatography coupled to multi-detectors. Five different technical lignins were studied: Protobind 1000, Organosolv (CIMV), Pine Kraft, Eucalyptus Kraft and Indulin. Lignin samples were washed and derivatized by classical acetylation, which was compared to fluoro-derivatization using the new methods developed in this work, such as fluorobenzylation and fluorobenzoylation. Hydroxyl groups present in the lignin samples were quantified by potentiometric and conductometric titrations, GC-aminolysis, IR and differential UV spectroscopies and NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, 19F and 31P). Molar mass distributions of derivatized lignins were calculated using different columns and solvents (DMAc and THF). Conventional calibration, using different standard polymers as calibrants, was compared to the so-called “universal calibration method”, which uses viscometric and refractometric detectors. Fluoro-derivatization enhanced lignin solubility in THF and improved chromatographic results. Universal calibration led to about three times higher molar mass values than by conventional calibration

It enables us to account for the evolution of distributions and to find out the inequality between and whitin the income distributions. This models were used as theoretic support fort the working out of c. Dagum's models in 1973 : a threeparameter model (type one) and four-parameter models (types two and three). These constructions count a theoretic basis leading to a series of economic and statistical properties. We have applied them tothe french salary distributions for the years 1982 and 1987. The adjustement of the models parameters (more appropriate in 1982 than in 1987) show the inequality in matter of distributions. To finish, the results reveal a decreasing inequality on national and regional salary scale

The behavior near 1 is studied by the means of functional equations. In order to establish such equations, a parameter y is introduced, which governs the size of the smallest prime factor P-(n) of a general integer n. In the second part, results for the modulus of continuity near any point are deduced from the behavior near t = 1, using a method of Erdös. The modulus attains its maximum when t is sufficiently close to 1/2. Estimates of in_nite and Lr norms of the modulus of continuity are obtained, when r > 1 is fixed

Testo completoThe thesis continues the work of Evolutionary Game Theory. This theory is a framework for modeling the dynamics of populations interactions betwcen agents are modeled by the classic dilemmas from Game Theory. The agents interaet with their peers. Best behaviors spread. less suecessful ones tend to disappear. Evolutionary Game Theory prondes conditions upon which cooperative behaviors can survive and cooperative equilibriums can appear. Assuming that each agent does not interact with all the others but only with a fixed group of neighbors greatly increases the number of possible dynamics. The relations between agents form a social network. Limitation of contacts between agents favors cooperative equilibrium and biodiversity. Nevertheless, formal approach to the models is no longer possible and they are studied through massive computer simulations. The thesis continues the study of the impact of social networks. lt introduces networks of communities, a new model where commnnities are networked rather than agents. This model exhibits new forms of eooperative convergence and new conditions to persistent biodiversity. The thesis also shows the possibility of convergence of markets towards non-competitive equilibriums and the survival of behaviors collectively able to reach cartel equilibrium, a particular form of cooperative equilibrium
