The church history of the Russian-Ukrainian border is a significant area for research, in particular in the issue of the meeting of the Moscow Orthodox Church, which was intensively reformed, and the church structure of numerous immigrants to Slobodа Ukraine from the Kyiv Metropolis («Cherkasy» (Ukrainians)). The main ecclesiastical administrative formation in Sloboda Ukraine was the Bilgorod diocese, ruled by metropolitans in 1667–1721. In this case, the important features of the border are the presence of non-Moscow printing books and the emergence of schools.Already the first Bilgorod Metropolitan Theodosius brought 150 liturgical books to the center of the diocese from Moscow. But according to later data, Moscow books did not dominate in this space: a significant part of the books was from Kyiv, Lviv, and even Ostroh printing houses. The register of books of the Kuryazh monastery, published before the beginning of the 18th century, and other available registers testify to the coexistence of books of various printings in monastery book collections and churches.The «school tradition» of the establishment of schools at churches, similar to the Kyiv Metropolitanate, was also characteristic. The Bilgorod metropolitans did not bring their teachers from Moscow and apparently did not control the «cherkasy schools». These examples once again emphasize the heterogeneity of the borderline and the multiplicity of identities.

This article centers around the publication of a unique document titled ‘The Register of Hired Compositors, Pressmen, and Bookbinders’, which records the employment of 74 individuals in the printing house of the Vilnius Basilian Monastery between 1774 and 1818. In addition to lists of employees, it involves detailed contracts signed by printers itself. This document is kept in Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Lviv. The publication consists of two parts: the first one presents the preface, both in Lithuanian and in English, the second one contains the text of the document. The preface discusses the origin, structure and content of the document. The document being published is important, above all, to the history of the Basilian printing house. However, it also contains valuable information concerning the activities of all other printing houses in Vilnius in the 18th century. Additive manufacturing or 3D-printing is a revolutionary technique for prototyping and building objects for final use. Since the first registers at ~1890 the improved technology has boosted the applications of such technique, decreasing its market price. The most affordable 3D-print technique is Fuse Deposition Modeling (FDM), which is based on a layer-by-layer deposition of a fused polymer on a cooled table. Although FDM has been used by industrials, students and researchers, there are few published protocols dealing with small challenges and daily problems. Here we use a basic object to detail pre- and post-printing steps. This technical note offers the reader tools to model, print and treat the 3D-object. We point out basic challenges, such as positioning the objects on the virtual table of the slicing software, that may lead towards undesirable printed pieces. The protocols described here do not cover the uncountable possibilities of 3D-printing by FDM, but surely help researchers and industrials to start working with it. This paper discusses the stylistic characteristics of the language of cartoons in some Nigerian newspapers. The analysis focuses on printing styles, stylistic registers, and textual features. The author concludes that the informal style (exemplified by the occurrence of Pidgin English, colloquial forms, loan blends, ellipsis, and telegraphic sentences) characterizes the language of the cartoons. Thus, cartoonists use language as an artistic medium in which various options of language are explored for effective communication.

ABSTRACT: This essay explores the ways in which Edgar Allan Poe used script, along with text, portraits, and voice, to help him navigate the moral registers of nineteenth-century American authorship. Given the cultural belief that there was little distinction between the character of an author and the characters within a text, Poe's gothic work necessitated that he seek to disarticulate his self from the various selves that peopled his tales, in particular, or risk being branded a degenerate and ignored. This essay examines several of Poe's manuscripts for strategic shifts in his handwriting, contextualizing these alongside texts, images, and literary performances in the period's salons, in order to disclose the important work that his handwriting, with its various scripts, did in shaping his authorial self for the public. It considers Poe's plans for The Stylus and his fascination with anastatic printing as a means for ushering in new conditions of literary production that would not only offer financial benefit to authors but ensure their ability to control the interpretive registers of the self through the presentation of the hand.

The printing industry is an industry that focuses on printing results. Controlling the consistency of print colors is a very important matter in order to be able to produce a package through printed packaging with good quality. Some aspects that affect color consistency are wetting water and engine maintenance, besides that there are still many aspects that have an effect. Good quality is seen from several factors and one of them is the color of the print. To produce good print quality, it is necessary to maintain color consistency during the printing process in order to minimize the possibility of printing out of color range. This study aims to find the factors that influence the consistency of the color of the packaging print. Descriptive method is used in this research, with the approach of field observations and in-depth interviews. Analysis of the results using the Fishbone diagram. The findings that have been recorded are several findings, both in print aspects, aspects that affect print color and problems controlling the consistency of print colors. Print aspects that need to be considered are colors, registers, and text. Aspects that affect the color of the print are wetting water, printing ink, machine, and ink roll. factors that must be considered in order to create a quality printed packaging that is consistent with color, including man, machine, material, method, measurement, and environment factors. The solution to this problem is to improve the quality of man, machine, material, method, measurement, and environment factors.Keywords— Control, Color Consistency, Print, Packaging

Early Stuart England was awash in handwriting. Handwriting was the medium of property records, law, account books, and scholarly note taking. A large share of government was conducted through handwritten policy briefs, registers, and circular letters. Equally, it was the medium of prisoners, beggars, petitioners, and village wits. Collectors compiled handwritten poems, prophecies, speeches, recipes, and anecdotes. The number of English people who knew how to operate a printing press was probably in the low hundreds, the number who could write at least a bit likely in the hundreds of thousands. Writing was accessible, widely understood, and practiced. It was the medium to hand.

Cooperative Extension has relied heavily on the distribution of printed materials to accomplish its mission of providing research-based educational materials to agricultural producers and consumers. As the costs of print media have escalated and budgets have been reduced, Extension has continually sought more efficient and effective alternatives. World Wide Web information servers are central to this task, since they are relatively inexpensive to set up and operate, and can deliver high-quality materials for on-screen viewing or printing on demand. Recent developments (specifically the WebTV network) indicate the Web to be the medium of choice for Extension delivery systems. In addition to providing electronic versions of publications, slide shows, and video clips, most Web browsers also support e-mail and interactive forms for obtaining information from the client. Analysis of Web server logs and guest registers can be used to determine client use patterns to address issues of access and accountability. The current and next generations of most word processing, page layout, and presentation software offer Web-ready layout as one saving option.

Although offset printing has been and still is the most common printing technology for color print productions, its print productions are subject to variations due to environmental and process parameters. Therefore, it is very important to frequently control the print production quality criteria in order to make the process predictable, reproducible and stable. One of the most important parts in a modern industrial offset printing is Computer to Plate (CtP), which exposes the printing plate. One of the most important quality criteria for printing is to control the dot gain level. Dot gain refers to an important phenomenon that causes the printed elements to appear larger than their reference size sent to the CtP. It is crucial to have the dot gain level within an acceptable range, defined by ISO 12647-2 for offset printing. This is done by dot gain compensation methods in the Raster Image Processor (RIP). Dot gain compensation is however a complicated task in offset printing because of the huge number of parameters affecting dot gain. Another important quality criterion affecting the print quality in offset is the register variation caused by the misplacement of printing sheet in the printing unit. Register variation causes tone value variations, gray balance variation and blurred image details. Trapping is another important print quality criterion that should be measured in an offset printing process. Trapping occurs when the inks in different printing units are printed wet-on-wet in a multi-color offset printing machine. Trapping affects the gray balance and makes the resulting colors of overlapped inks pale. In this dissertation three different dot gain compensation methods are discussed. The most accurate and efficient dot gain compensation method, which is noniterative, has been tested, evaluated and applied using many offset printing workflows. To further increase the accuracy of this method, an approach to effectively select the correction points of a RIP with limited number of correction points, has also been proposed. Correction points are the tone values needed to be set in the RIP to define a dot gain compensation curve. To fulfill the requirement of having the register variation within the allowed range, it has to be measured and quantified. There have been two novel models proposed in this dissertation that determine the register variation value. One of the models is based on spectrophotometry and the other one on densitometry. The proposed methods have been evaluated by comparison to the industrial image processing based register variation model, which is expensive and not available in most printing companies. The results of all models were comparable, verifying that the proposed models are good  alternatives to the image processing based model. The existing models determining the trapping values are based on densitometric measurements and quantify the trapping effect by a percentage value. In this dissertation, a novel trapping model is proposed that quantifies the trapping effect by a color difference metric, i.e. , which is more useful and understandable for print machine operators. The comparison between the proposed trapping model and the existing models has shown very good correlations and verified that the proposed model has a bigger dynamic range. The proposed trapping model has also been extended to take into account the effect of ink penetration and gloss. The extended model has been tested using a  high glossy coated paper and the results have shown that the gloss and ink penetration can be neglected for this type of paper. An automated CtP calibration system for offset printing workflow has been introduced and described in this dissertation. This method is a good solution to generate the needed huge numbers of dot gain compensation curves to have an accurate CtP calibration.

Zur genauen Justage und objektiven Qualitätsprüfung von Druckmaschinen ist ein hochgenaues Messgerät zur Passermessung sinnvoll. Ein solches Messsystem wurde unter Verwendung konventioneller Videotechnik basierend auf Bildanalysetechnologien entwickelt. Speziell für das Messsystem entworfene Messelemente werden zur Passermessung gedruckt, mit Videotechnik digitalisiert und mit Hilfe von Bildanalysetechnologien erkannt, bewertet und vermessen. Auf dem Entwicklungsweg zu diesem Messsystem wurden verschiedene Problemkreise analysiert und gelöst. Dazu zählen beispielsweise Methoden zur Signalerfassung und zur Korrektur von Fehlern in optischen Abbildungssystemen. Ausgehend von einer Bewertung bekannter Lösungen zur Passermessung werden Technologien und Strategien für ein Messverfahren zur Passermessung mit konventioneller Videotechnik am Beispiel der Übergabepassermessung aufgezeigt. Nachweismöglichkeiten zur Prüfung der Technologie und Schlussfolgerungen wie wünschenswerte Forderungen für die Zukunft, beispielsweise für Folge- und Weiterentwicklungen, werden formuliert
A high-precision instrument for register measurement is useful for the exact adjustment and quality control of printing presses. Such a measuring system has been developed on the basis of image analysis methods and the application of conventional video technology. Measuring elements specially designed for the measuring system are printed for register measurement, digitalized with video technology and recognized, evaluated and measured with the help of image analysis methods. On the way to the development of this measuring system various complexes of problems were analysed and solved, among them, for instance, methods of signal recognition and correction of errors in optical imaging systems. Proceeding from the evaluation of known solutions for register measurement, methods and strategies are demonstrated for a method of register measurement with conventional video technology using transfer register measurement as an example. Possibilities to proof the verification of the method, conclusions and desirable demands for the future, such as follow-up and further developments have been formulated

Baigiamajame magistro darbe buvo lyginama ofsetinės ir fleksografinės spaudos kokybė spausdinant spalvines kontrolines skales, spalvų sutapdinimo kryžius, skiriamosios gebos elementus. Atspaudai buvo atspausdinti ofsetine lapine spaudos mašina ir siauraritinine fleksografinės spaudos mašina su centriniu spaudos cilindru. Mikroskopu buvo matuojamas spalvų sutapdinimo tikslumas, skiriamosios gebos elementų dydis. Densitometru buvo matuojamas atskirų ir binarinių spalvų rastrinių taškų santykinis plotas bei įvertintas gradacinis tikslumas. Pagal gautus kiekybinius rezultatus nustatyta, jog fleksografinės spaudos kokybė prastesnė negu ofsetinės spaudos. Darbą sudaro šios dalys: įvadas, literatūros apžvalga, kokybės reikalavimai, problemos analizė, eksperimento eiga ir rezultatų analizė, išvados, literatūros sąrašas. Darbo apimtis – 80 p. teksto be priedų, 65 pav., 43 lentelės, 18 literatūros šaltinių.
In master thesis was compared the offset and flexographic printing quality. Printing quality was evaluated using control strips, register crosses, resolving power test elements. Jobs were printed with offset sheet-fed printing press and flexographic narrow web press with central impresion cilinder. Register accuracy and resolving power were investigated using microscope. Dot area of single and binary colors wes measured with densitometer and halftone graduation characteristics were evaluated. On the basis of quantitative results it was determined that offset printing quality in comparison with flexography is higher. Master thesis comprise of folowing chapters: literature review, quality requirements, experimental, results and discusion, conclusions, references. Amount – 80 pages, 65 figures, 43 tables, 18 references.

This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on controller design of registration error generated by operating of R2R printing machine. Registration error is primarily determined by angular velocity of roller and web tension, so we separate R2R printing machine into transmission and registration module for controller design. Multi-loop controller design is adopted for controller design. Inner loop includes transmission module and PID tension controller, in addition to PD controller placed on negative feedback. Small signal analysis with gain scheduling is selected for control law when R2R printing machine work on operation point, and radius of roller system which is fixed. Outer loop includes registration module and P compensator. Finally, we do robust test for controller which is designed. The second part build a CUDA parallel computing platform for image processing and use Hough transform for image processing of registration mark. Then we put the photo of registration mark on platform and do non-real-time image processing for timing test. Finally, we analyze the results of the timing test.

This chapter works through the color-printing process of the Technicolor Corporation, used in the mid-1940s, to explore the contradictory registers of dream and practicality to which film-watching moments offer entrance. It provides an analysis of a key color effect in Powell and Pressburger’s A Matter of Life and Death (1946), in which a transition from the monochromatic to the vibrantly colorful emphasizes the use of cinematic color beyond the perfunctory. It is argued, with reference to oil painting, that the brilliant and radiant pink of a single rose in this scene represents the potential of color to emotionally penetrate the viewer, not by supplementing the narrative, but by intruding upon and beyond it.

Abstract Translingual and multilingual printing not only registered but also cultivated early modern English readers’ encounters with alterity. Significant, variable multilingual printing in England began with William Caxton, England’s first printer, and flourished through the early print period; it was necessarily connected with a flourishing translation praxis. Multilingual printing, like translation, often served certain larger cultural agendas (such as improving English literary culture; claiming ancient heritage; celebrating key political moments in a pseudo-universalizing way). While many printers in England imitated Continental conventions of multilingual printing, some also developed particular modes suited to special English contexts, including John Day and ‘cultural amphibians’ like Caxton, John Wolfe, and Richard Field. Strategies of mise-en-page and typography, such as type distinction and type assignment, guided readers’ encounters with foreign materials, as the chapter demonstrates in a gallery of ten wide-ranging examples and a broader survey of multilingual genres and kinds.

This chapter assesses the impact of the printing, in the eighteenth century, of the ḥiddushim of Bet Midrasho shel ha-Ramban. First, it opened anew the halakhic discussion. With the infusion of thousands of doctrines of Ramban, Rashba, and Ritva, and the hosts of new positions registered in the Shitah Mekubbetset, rabbinical scholars were now required to reopen closed issues and weigh the established rulings against the claims of the new doctrines that were streaming into the system. They had to scour the Talmud to see whether there were passages that supported some of the new doctrines and to assess whether the new views of Ramban's school contained juridical insights that set past rulings at naught. Second, printing introduced a new level of halakhic thinking into the legal discourse. The solutions advanced by the Bet Midrasho shel ha-Ramban are more suasive than those of the Tosafists.

One of the main causes of learners getting poor grades is a communication problem between the instructors and students. There are times when students miss tests and proposal due dates, which results in poor grades. Short messaging service (SMS) is an efficient way to remind and disseminate information among students within and outside the school campus. The aim of having no verbal communication between students and teachers would be helped by this feature. When a student is registered in the departmental information dissimilation portal, their mobile phone will be updated with any academic related information at any point in time. We employed web technology to achieve this goal, which enables each registered student to have access to updated information from the department within and outside the institution campus. The proposed system achieved an efficiency through the various menu implemented on the system by reducing the stress and printing cost of notifying the student.

PFnet in the Solomon Islands is the first attempt to introduce rural e-mail stations in remote rural villages in isolated islands. It was established in 2001 under an UNDP-UNOPS project and was initially partly funded by UNDP. Since then the major funding has come from Japan, NZODA, Britain, Republic of China, AusAid and European Union (Leeming, 2003a). It is managed by the Rural Development Volunteer Association (RDVA), a registered NGO. PFnet has an Internet Café (head office) in Honiara, the capital city and operates a network hub with fourteen rural e-mail stations linked by HF (short-wave) radios with e-mails typed in a laptop and powered by solar energy (Stork, Leeming, and Biliki, 2003). PFnet provides for the information and communication needs of the rural people. It is a source of information (e.g., providing news, Internet access), source of communication (sending and receiving e-mails), and provider of typing, secretarial, and printing services. PFnet has been a success story in improving the information and communication needs of the rural people (Leeming, 2003b).

This study aims to describe the role of the Tegal T-shirt screen printing community (Tegal Screen Printing) in the t-shirt screen printing business in Tegal and to find out the obstacles faced by screen printing business actors and how to overcome the role of the Tegal T-shirt screen printing community (Tegal Screen Printing) in the t-shirt screen printing business in Tegal. This study employs a qualitative case study methodology. The participants included Tegal Screen Printing's founders, community leaders, and community members. Included among the data collection methods are interviews, observations, and documentation. The validity of the data is carried out by triangulating the source and method. Data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion are the data analysis techniques used. The outcomes demonstrated the community's role as a sharing forum, adding insights related to business ethics, such as communication skills, social skills, and networking; adding insights related to business management, such as leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork; and contributing to the quality of the products produced. There are technical production/technical screen-printing obstacles, e.g., registers and screen clogged either in the design section or the overall design, the difficulty of raw materials, and communities that need to provide counseling on making financial reports. Several options exist for overcoming these obstacles: The Tegal Screen Printing Community also seeks to assist its members with technical matters and scarcity of raw materials in the form of color errors in screen printing with designs, e.g., registers, and obstacles encountered during the film process of screen printing. Additionally, the Community seeks to offer guidance on preparing financial reports.

Abstract Products with printed electronics technology can be easily found around us. It is a technology used in various fields such as RFID, flexible displays, and solar panels. Such products feature multi-layer structures rather than using a single pattern layer for printing. A product with excellent performance can be obtained only when overlay printing is performed well in a multi-layer structure. Therefore, to improve overlay accuracy, the effect of film deformation should be considered and compensated. However, deformation of the film is caused by tension applied to the film or heat during the drying process. In this paper, the deformation of the film is compensated by analyzing the register error after printing in the screen overlay printing process, one of the roll-to-roll process technologies. The tendency of film deformation is compensated by measuring the register error by comparing the reference register mark with the additional overprinted register mark, and analyzing the repetitive register error that occurs during overprinting. And it is verified that the overlay accuracy is improved through screen printing to which this compensation system is applied.

Abstract Roll-to-Roll (R2R) printing techniques are promising for high-volume continuous production of substrate-based products, as opposed to sheet-to-sheet (S2S) approach suited for low-volume work. However, meeting the tight alignment tolerance requirements of additive multi-layer printed electronics specified by device resolution that is usually at micrometer scale has become a major challenge in R2R flexible electronics printing, preventing the fabrication technology from being transferred from conventional S2S to high-speed R2R production. Print registration in a R2R process is to align successive print patterns on the flexible substrate and to ensure quality printed devices through effective control of various process variables. Conventional model-based control methods require an accurate web-handling dynamic model and real-time tension measurements to ensure control laws can be faithfully derived. For complex multistage R2R systems, physics-based state-space models are difficult to derive, and real-time tension measurements are not always acquirable. In this paper, we present a novel data-driven model predictive control (DD-MPC) method to minimize the multistage register errors effectively. We show that the DD-MPC can handle multi-input and multi-output systems and obtain the plant model from sensor data via an Eigensystem Realization Algorithm (ERA) and Observer Kalman filter identification (OKID) system identification method. In addition, the proposed control scheme works for systems with partially measurable system states.

This proposal considers the colophon as a conceptual structure for thinking through lists and listing within our creative practice(s). Conventionally, the colophon is a short piece of text that details information about the making of a publication or its intended use. Most often, the colophon specifies the how, where, and when: the typeface and paper stock; the location, date, edition number, and method of printing. It can also foreground the relational aspects of publishing – the with who or the why here. Colophons appear at the opening or the closing of a publication, and the information within them can form a kind of ballast to what precedes or succeeds them. That is, the listing of the material, processual, and relational labour that went into the making of publications is called forward in the colophon and acknowledged as structural necessity. Often, we are led to ask, how is this conception of the colophon useful in thinking about the other types of lists and listings that make their way into our collective practices? —Runsheets, Material lists, Contents, Title lists, Indexes, Captions, Legends, Rosters, Glossaries, Registers, Manifests, Chronologies— These modes of listing communicate relevant and important contexts and, in that way, become a conceptual part of creative works themselves. As formats, they are all also citational practices where the materials, processes, information, and relations are shared freely – as any written text would be in a publication’s reference list. In their book, The Hundreds (2019), cultural theorists Lauren Berlant and Kathleen Stewart list Adorno and Agamben texts next to “An egg-cooking machine” and “A few pansies stuck in a window box” in the reference section, all alphabetised under the title “Some Things We Thought With”1. This type of list (and the concept of a colophon itself) is not an indiscriminate breaking-down into separate parts but a strategic highlighting of the conditions and abstractions of the artwork. The colophon as a structure in this context exists not only to acknowledge what contributes to a publication but also to trace possible points of departure from convention. As a tactic within creative practice, the colophon is like a conceptual abstraction; it holds all of the constituent parts that make up a project in one place. The ‘—with’ that Berlant and Stewart explore is key to the how, where, and when of relations that the doing of listing brings together. As artists working in the inter-related fields of socially engaged art, object-making, installation, and publication, our list of interests include the moon, the water, the sky; flowers, ceramics, printed matter; ducks, snails, butter. This paper will share our three perspectives on listing as a synchronous tactic with the functioning action of a colophon. Where words and images get to turn, twist, veer, bow, dip, and nod, and the conceptual form of a project takes shape with things.
