Este texto es un ejercicio de memoria dedicado a la “mirada cercana” de Luigi Lombardi Satriani (San Costantino di Briatico 1936-Roma 2022). La dialéctica “cerca-lejos” recorre la historia de la mirada de la antropología dirigida a la construcción del objeto de conocimiento y la configuración del conocimiento etnográfico. El caso de Natuzza Evolo, vidente de Paravati, un pequeño pueblo en Calabria, es una de las investigaciones etnográficas más representativa de la obra del antropólogo recientemente desaparecido sobre la ideología de la muerte en la cultura folclórica del sur de Italia. El artículo se propone tematizar la “mirada de cerca”, como una posible llave de reflexión crítica sobre el modelo de trabajo de campo de Lombardi Satriani y su papel fundamental en la antropología italiana postdemartiniana. La reconstrucción del legado de Lombardi Satriani en términos historiográficos, en este momento, es todavía parcial. Por lo tanto, este artículo quiere ofrecer una contribución sobre los aspectos no tematizados del posicionamiento de ‘insider’ del antropólogo en la construcción del caso de Natuzza Evolo. La mirada es también “cercana” sobre la obra del que fue mi maestro y “padre electivo” de mi vocación antropológica.

The chemical composition of the essential oil from Salvia rosmarinus Spenn. collected in Calabrian Ionian (R1) and Tyrrhenian (R2) coast (Southern Italy) was examined by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Essential oils are mainly characterized by monoterpene hydrocarbons (39.32–40.70%) and oxygenated monoterpenes (36.08-39.47%). The 1,8-cineole, α-pinene, camphor, and trans-caryophyllene are the most representative compounds. S. rosmarinus essential oils were investigated for their antioxidant activity by using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), ferric reducing ability power (FRAP), and β-carotene bleaching tests. Additionally, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) inhibitory activity assays were used to screen the neuroprotective effects of S. rosmarinus. R2 showed the highest antioxidant potential as confirmed by relative antioxidant capacity index (RACI) and exhibited a selective activity against AChE (half maximal inhibitory concentration, IC50, value of 41.86 μg/mL). These results suggest S. rosmarinus essential oil as a potential source of bioactive compounds.

The genus Fritillaria Linnaeus (1753: 303) (Liliaceae) is the largest within Liliaceae tribe Lilieae Lam. & DC. (Peruzzi et al. 2009a, Carta & Peruzzi 2016). The latter tribe is composed by bulbous, herbaceous plants, with a bulb composed by 2–3 to many scales, anthers dorsifixed, fruit a loculicide capsule with seeds usually winged (Peruzzi 2016). Fritillaria includes about 140 species of perennial bulbous geophytes distributed in the Northern Hemisphere, from North America to Mediterranean region and temperate Asia (Bartolucci et al. 2009), and is subdivided in eight subgenera and a number of sections and series. Fritillaria messanensis Raf. in Desveaux (1814: 272) belongs to F. subg. Fritillaria sect. Fritillaria. According to Kamari & Phitos (2006), Peruzzi et al. (2009b) and Kranjčev & Šešok (2016), F. messanensis consists of four subspecies: F. messanensis subsp. messanensis, occurring in Greece (Mt. Olimbos and Peloponnese) and S Italy (Calabria and Sicily); F. messanensis subsp. gracilis (Ebel 1842: 8) Rix (1978: 356), occurring in the Ionian Islands, Albania, S Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro (see also Tomović et al. 2007); F. messanensis subsp. neglecta (Parlatore 1857: 415) Nyman (1882: 721), endemic to Croatia, and F. messanensis subsp. sphaciotica (Gandoger 1916: 156.) Kamari & Phitos (2006: 225), endemic to Crete.

Abstract. UNM Parang Tambung applies the concept of a comfortable and breathaking environment. Various types of trees have grown since the campus was founded, yet several were deliberately planted in open land. Plants have different categories of main benefits, one of the benefits applied here that is the presence of various types of trees and other plants in campus environment. The purpose of the study was to determine the types of trees that grow in UNM Parang Tambung. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, this research was carried out by systematically describing data about the characteristics of tree plants in UNM Parang Tambung campus area. The results showed that there were 956 individual trees consisting of 34 species belonging to 20 families. The species are Alstonia scholaris, Araucaria heterophylla, Artocarpus altilis, Artocarpus heterophyllus, Averrhoa bilimbi L, Cocos nucifera, Delonix regia Raf, Dimocarpus longan Lour, Ficus benjamina L, Ficus septica Burm F, Gmelina arborea, Guazoma ulmifolia Lamk, Livistona saribus, Mangifera indica, Mimusops elengi L, Morinda citrifolia L., Moringa oleifera, Muntingia calabura L, Paraserianthes falcataria, Plumeria rubra, Polyalthia longifolia, Pterocarpus indicus Willd, Ptychosperma macarthurii, Roystone regia, Samanea saman, Senna siamea, Spatodea campanulata P.B, Switenia mahagoni, Syzygium aqueum, Syzygium cumini, Tectona grandis, Terminalia catappa, Terminalia mantaly, and Wodyetia bifurcata L.Keywords: unm campus, tree, identification, parang tambung

Reggio, Catanzaro, Crotone, Cosenza: the steps that Savinio brings to the readers’ knowledge are not many, but sufficient to better define a powerfully visionary style, elaborating an idea of Calabria that integrates the present, the history, the myth.

Towers, corsairs and smugglers in Calabria Ultra during the French Decade (1806-1815)At the beginning of the nineteenth century, even if the phenomenon of running war had subsided, the watch towers still had an active role in controlling the coasts of Southern Italy. Under the French administration some of them were assigned to customs posts, others continued to report the corsair boats always ready to carry out incursive actions. Merchant ships, fishermen and peasants were still struck by the devastating Turkish-Barbarian cruises, but also by corsairs armed by the British in an eternal struggle against the French. The towers are regularly guarded by sentinels armed with non-military weapons, which are not functional to the increasingly sophisticated assaults of the Corsair marines. The people in charge of the customs had to manage a staff often absent from the guardhouse due to malarial fevers, especially during the summer when the coasts were excessively hot. The customs documentation shows the economy of a Southern Italy still rooted in the classic export products: oil, dried figs, cotton, cheese, wine and coarse wool cloths. Raw silk is absent from the market, one of the most exported products until the second half of the eighteenth century and supplanted by the olive tree.
