Testo completoThis thesis is mainly about quantum correlations and non-linear fluctuations in quantum fluids. It focuses especially on collective quantum fluctuations, i.e. sound waves, in the stationary flow of a 1D Bose-Einstein quasi- condensate which exhibits an acoustic horizon, i.e. a transition from subsonic to supersonic flow. Quantum phenomena generated by the presence of the horizon are investigated. The thesis also presents a brief excursus on two- dimensional turbulence in a quantum fluid. We study quantum non-separability, non- locality and back-reaction of the acoustic Hawking radiation emitted by an analog black hole. The entanglement and nonlocal correlations within the tripartite system of quasi-particles emitted from the acoustic horizon are first investigated. Back-reaction equations govern- ing the effect of such acoustic radiation on the inhomogeneous background are derived and stationary solutions are considered. Finally, a phenomenological theory based on topological constraints for vortex creation and annihilation is effectively applied to experimental data, thus accounting for the growth and decay of turbulence

Testo completoThis thesis is dedicated to the study of nonlinear-driven phenomena in two quantum gases which bear important similarities: Bose-Einstein condensates of ultracold atomic vapors and “fluids of light”. In a first part, we study sonic analogues of black holes. In a Bose-Einstein condensate, it is possible to implement a stationary configuration with a current flowing from a subsonic region to a supersonic one. This mimics a black hole, since sonic excitations cannot escape the supersonic region. Besides, quantizing the phonon field leads to a sonic analogue of Hawking radiation. In this thesis, we show that a correct account of “zero modes” – overlooked so far in the context of analogue gravity – is essential for an accurate description of the Hawking process, and results in a excellent comparison with recent experimental data. In addition, we characterize the entanglement shared among quantum excitations and show that they exhibit tripartite entanglement. In a second part, we investigate the short and long time propagation of nonlinear fluids within a hydrodynamic framework and by means of mathematical methods developed by Riemann and Whitham. In particular, we study the oscillating structure and the dynamics of dispersive shock waves which arise after a wave breaking event. We obtain a weak shock theory, from which we can extract a quantitative description of experimentally relevant parameters, such as the wave breaking time, the velocity of the solitonic edge of the shock or the contrast of its fringes

Concretament hem estudiat els forats negres NS5 i Little String Theory (LST).

Acoustic black hole study resembles the gravitational black hole as follows: we verify Hawking radiation phenomenon the presence of an event horizon, the possibility to calculate its temperature, also known as Hawking temperature, and we obtain a metric that describes the black hole geometry. We insert in the acoustic metric theory the non commutative theory in order to verify the corrections that result from this theory. In this study, we consider the generalized uncertainty principle in tunneling formalism by Hamilton-Jacobi method to determine Hawking temperature and quantum entropy corrected for non commutative acoustic black holes in 2+1 dimensions. In our results, we obtain an entropy are a with a termoflogarith mic correction in ruling order a termina smaller order, proportional to the radiation temperature associated with the commutative acoustic black holes and an extra term that depends on a conserved charge. Thus as in the gravitational case, there is noneed to present the ultraviolet cut-off and differences are eliminated.

Testo completoThe world we live in, is constantly changing under the influence of science and technology. The modern day technology has enslaved us in such a manner that now one may imagine leading a life simply by sitting in front of a personal computer and getting all things done from there. This “one window”operation, in other words the technological advancement, has its own advantages and disadvantages. One of the unwanted byproduct of the technological and industrial development is pollution. One of the major forms of pollution is NOISE. Noise is and has always been the challenge for many industries such as aircraft and automobile industries. This problem arises with the use of more efficient and light weight materials. The lighter the material, the more the vibration. Since noise is directly related with the vibration of the structure, hence more vibration implies higher noise. Scientist and engineers have devised ways in order to stand up to this menace. Three methods are identified in general: 1. Active Noise Control 2. Noise Reduction through Absorbing Materials 3. Noise Reduction using Thermoviscous Fluids The main theme of this thesis is based on the last method. The present work deals with the thermoviscous characteristics of the fluids in reducing the radiated noise levels. Various configurations with varying cases have been considered to demonstrate the effectiveness of thermoviscous properties of the medium in noise elimination. The configurations studied are essentially kept simple and emphasis is rather put on finding the trends than solving complicated industrial problems. By and large, the investigation is limited to only regular structures, however, the fluids are studied in a comprehensive manner. A general fluid model is introduced which permits to examine any medium, provided the characteristics of the fluid are known. The proposed model relies on the simultaneous solution of the full set of Navier Stoke’s equations and hence is essentially different from the contemporary solution methods. A 3D solution is obtained using modified differential operators. This model is applied on the simple plates initially and later on the double wall panel. The theoretical results are encouraging in showing considerable gain in sound isolation with the use of thermoviscous media. Results for both air and water are shown. Experimental validation has been performed also. Differences are indicated in the text and appropriate reasons given. Before giving the conclusion, an innovative model of an equivalent plate is introduced. The method shown uses very high viscosity fluids such as Rhodorsil R 47 oils. The method is based on an asymptotic approach, which is considerably simpler than the full solution of the Navier Stoke’s equation. It has been shown that high damping factors are obtained using this technique. The method is accompanied by radiation result comparison which successfully indicates an incredible reduction in noise levels

The general relativity theory predicts black hole type solutions, which are characterized by the existence of an event horizon. As an example, the metric obtained by Ba~nados- Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ), which is a soluton of the gravitation in (2 + 1)-dimensions in what is considered a negative cosmological constant. In recent years, noncommutative black holes have been investigated by many authors in the literature. In particular, the BTZ metric non-commutative was obtained considering the equivalent, which exists in three dimensions, between gravitation and Chern-Simons theory, which is a quantum theory topological elds in three dimensions, and using it mapping Seiberg-Witter with the solution of (2 + 1)-dimensions. The presence of divergences in quantum eld theory leads to consider the possibility of modifying the principle of Heisenberg uncertainty by introducing a fundamental length scale, and this modi cation generate corrections to the thermodynamic properties of black holes. One of the e ects associated with the black hole type solutions, regardless of the space-time dimension is the thermal emission (Hawking radiation), which is seen as a process of tunneling due to vacuum uctuations that happens in the region near the event horizon . In this work, in order to investigate the corrections due to noncommutativity and the principle of widespread uncertainty, we consider the metric BTZ noncommutative. For this, we use tunneling formalism via Hamilton-Jacobi method.

Testo completoIn this thesis, we study several features of Hawking radiation in the presence of ultraviolet Lorentz violations. These violations are implemented by a modified dispersion relation that becomes nonlinear at short wavelengths. The motivations of this work arise on the one hand from the developing field of analog gravity, where we aim at measuring the Hawking effect in fluid flows that mimic black hole space-times, and on the other hand from the possibility that quantum gravity effects might be approximately modeled by a modified dispersion relation. We develop several studies on various aspects of the prob- lem. First we obtain precise characterizations about the deviations from the Hawking result of black hole radiation, which are induced by dispersion. Second, we study the emergence, both in white hole flows or for massive fields, of a macroscopic standing wave, spontaneously produced from the Hawking effect, and known as ‘undulation’. Third, we describe in detail an instability named black hole laser, which arises in the presence of two horizons, where Hawking radiation is self-amplified and induces an exponentially growing in time emitted flux

Testo completoAcoustic radiation pressure allows us to remotely create and manipulate liquid objets. Using a highly focused transducer, which emitted field is studied, we can create large aspect ratio and complex liquid interface deformations. This fundamental research aims at understanding these various objects. For this purpose, we developed a theoretical model taking into account the coupling between the wave propagation and the deformation of the interface. This model allows us to predict the characteristics of liquid columns both formed and stabilized by the acoustic radiation pressure. A study of acoustic liquid jets is performed as well. Moreover, we characterize finger-shaped andpacifier-shaped objects as piles of acoustic waveguides. The acoustic wave creates a liquidobject self-adapted to its propagation. For each of these studies, we compare deformationsobtained via the acoustic radiation pressure and the electromagnetic radiation pressurefrom a continuous laser beam

Testo completoElasticity imaging adds a new quality to conventional diagnostic ultrasound : it enables differentiation of tissues based on their hardness. The use of the ultrasonic radiation force as stress source allows to generate a localized vibration inside the tissue. In this work, analytical and numerical modelisations of shear wave displacements remotely induced in a viscoelastic solid by this internal radiation force are described. An experimental study based on optical detection of these shear waves is presented and confirms the theoretical results. Any parameters of the evolution of the shear wave displacements as a function of space and time are particularly studied : the displacement amplitude and time to reach this maximum of amplitude are directly linked to the tissue elasticity. Moreover, the evolution of the local shear velocity can be used to image this elasticity. From these results, an elasticity imaging equipment will be elaborated to detect hard cancerous tumors of the breast

Abstract: Exotic spinors emerge when the topology associatd to the manifold $M$, which is token as being the spacetime, is suppose to be non-trivial, in the sense that its fundamental group is non-trivial: $\pi_1(M) \neq 0$. Thus, a new exotic term $\partial_\mu \theta$ rises from the dynamical equation related to these spinors, and new properties are in order. The non-triviality of $\pi_1(M)$ may be directly linked to the very existence of black holes. In this vein, we study some relations between exotic spinorial structures and the Hawking radiation emission rate by asymptotically flat black holes solutions of General Relativity, finding an equation from which an explicity form for the exotic term could be inferred. Moreover, we work on the so-called RIM spinors, which are spinor fields satisfying a non-linear dynamical equation known as Heiseing non-linear equation. We present two \textit{lemmata} related to these spinors: one of them gives us restrictions for the decompostion of Dirac fields in terms of RIM spinors to occur, while the other deny the existence of exotic RIM spinors, i.e., it relates the very existence of RIM spinors to the spacetime topological structure. Besides, we develop a classifying method for RIM spinors into the Lounesto classes. Finally, we present, in the form of two theorems, ways to homotopically deform such spinors in what we call the spinor-plane.

Testo completoAs an acoustic wave impinges an obstacle, a mean force is exerted on its surface. This so-called radiation pressure arises from the non linear interaction between the wave and the object. The early history of this force did not suggest any application of such a feeble effect. Nevertheless, as technological advances improved the prospects of new powerful sound sources, it was rapidly considered to use the acoustic radiation pressure as a mean of non-contact manipulation of small objects. Ever since, standing wave schemes excited in cavities has been the preferred strategy that is becoming considerably popular. In the same time, the radiation pressure of light was also recognised to trap and manipulate very small objects. Using a single focused laser beam, optical tweezers brought a great dexterity to non contact manipulation techniques and rapidly grew to become a fundamental tool in many scientific fields. However, the minuteness of the force, the high intensities required and the smallness of trappable objects are well-known limitations in particular for biological applications.Although optics and acoustics have shown many similarities, an acoustical analogue to optical tweezers using a single beam is yet to be demonstrated. Theoretical and experimental efforts are presented here and shed light on the underpinning mechanisms of single-beam acoustical tweezers. The analysis of a peculiar beam's radiation pressure, i.e. acoustical vortices, unveiled new characteristics for single-beam trapping. Our experimental demonstration along with the low intensities required and the large forces developed show promise for a wide spectrum of new scientific applications

Testo completoLocalized vibrations occur in a variety of physical systems, from quantum mechanics to piano soundboards. The novel tool called landscape of localization is the Ąrst general method for predicting localization. It is therefore possible to study such phenomena without having to solve any eigenvalue problem or perform dynamic analyses. The landscape of localization is a static function that allows for predicting where modes will localize, how strong their localization will be, and when they will start delocalizing. Localized modes will resemble the static deformation, allowing for estimations of resonance frequencies using Rayleigh’s quotient. As a result, it is possible to extract dynamic information from the landscape and to investigate its effects on both vibrations and acoustic radiation. Within this context, this thesis aims to provide the basis for studying acoustic radiation using the landscape’s properties, considering localized modes as individual radiators. We will summarize this thesis structure, for the sake of simplicity, into three parts. One part of this dissertation deals with the relationship between statics and dynamics. We study the static deformation of simple geometries, such as circles and rectangles. By expressing the static solution in terms of modes, it is possible to derive equations that relate the tension of membranes to their static deformation. The same method is used for simply supported rectangular plates. Further, we infer the total spectrum from the maximum value of the static deformation of both geometries, in membranes and plates. This approach is then tested on various complex geometries of plates and membranes. The second part is centered on the radiation of complex structures. A method is proposed for estimating the modal radiation of simple and complex geometries, using circular pistons as basis radiators. Through this piston approach, we derive analytical approximations for modal radiation of complex geometries. Moreover, with a modal approach, where all modes are alike favored, one can express average values of the acoustic radiation. Hence, the estimated solutions can be found within seconds, just by knowing the structure’s shape and its natural frequencies. The third part focuses on localization. As a first step, we develop a quasi-static method for measuring the landscape function in complex membranes. Our results conifrm that the landscape function can predict localized modes and fist resonance frequencies in membranes, even with non-uniform and additionally unknown tension fields. As a second step, we study the radiation of structures displaying localized modes. We propose better estimations of localized frequencies based on the mean value of the valley lines. Then, the landscape is combined with two models: one to estimate spectra, and the other to estimate modal radiation from multiple localized zones. The two models allow for going beyond the fist localized mode. Therefore, acoustic radiation average values can be estimated through the use of the landscape and the models presented in this dissertation

Testo completoThis work presents a study of the acoustic radiation pressure induced by the propagation of an ultrasonic wave. The aim is to analyse the conditions of existence of a quasi-static pressure induced by the nonlinear propagation of a tone burst radiated in an unconfined liquid (water). Using a plane wave analysis, we interpret the quasi-static component of the self-demodulated displacement as the time average of the particle displacement. In the near-field area, a quasi-static pressure adds to the self-demodulated historically introduced. This term is formally identified as the Rayleigh radiation pressure, usually introduced in the case of a harmonic wave emitted in a confined fluid. Thus, this radiation pressure exists in a free liquid and can be interpreted as a "near-field" effect. In the far field, the Langevin radiation pressure is retrieved. In a soft solid (tissue), the radiation pressure is used to create a local shear wave. The very low shear wave speed (a few m/s) and the associated shear elastic Mach number allow us to observe cubic nonlinear effects induced by the propagation of shear waves. These effects are measured using the ultra-fast imaging technique developed in the laboratory for medical applications (elastography)

Testo completoSingle beam acoustical tweezers have been developed and applied to numerous applications in biological and biochemical domains. Their application in precise manipulations requires accurate control of the acoustical trap. This work sets out to calibrate the force exerted by acoustical tweezers and synthesize the desired wavefield. The single beam acoustical tweezers are achieved by a focused vortex beam. An object in interaction with the acoustic waves is trapped thanks to the radiation pressure. This three-dimensional force can be obtained by knowing the incident beam shape coefficients as well as the scattering coefficients. Therefore, the computation of the forces can be achieved by measuring the wavefield. The first part of the thesis concentrates on assessing different methods to compute the beam shape coefficients from the pressure field to estimate the radiation force exerted on an elastic sphere. Then, in the second part, the synthesis of the field using the inverse filtering method is carried out. A proper synthesis of the field requires a suitable distribution of control points where the wave propagation information is recorded. To synthesize the appropriate vortex beam, three kinds of distributions were compared. For the single beam acoustical tweezers, the most challenging part is the axial restoring force. In order to overcome this difficulty, the spherical vortex beam with high pressure gradient in the axial direction is introduced. This spherical vortex beam is intended to trap large spheres with diameters close to the wavelength. The feasibility of this vortex is analyzed numerically and experimentally

Testo completoAbstract : The study of the mechanisms of noise generation by the flow over an airfoil is essential to reduce the airframe noise. A direct aeroacoustic solver has been developed to shed some light on these mechanisms. Low dissipation and low dispersion numerical schemes are designed to preserve the weak acoustic waves. A multi-size mesh multi-time step algorithm has been developed to realize local grid refinements on a structured mesh and to reduce the calculation cost of the direct noise computation. The present solver is used to compute the noise generated by a 2-D NACA0012 airfoil at a low Reynolds number and to study the effect of the angle of attack on both flow and acoustic fields. Furthermore, the presence of the tonal noise from a NACA0012 airfoil at a moderate Reynolds number of 2×105 is investigated. A numerical insight into the effect of the experimental confinement due to the wind tunnel walls is then given for a 3-D NACA0018 airfoil at Reynolds 1. 6×105. Finally,a direct computation of the flow over a 3-D truncated NACA0012 airfoil at a high Reynolds number (2. 32 × 106) is performed by large eddy simulation. The solution is compared with an experimental database named EXAVAC. The main noise generation mechanisms are well reproduced with the multi-domain approach

Testo completoThe research work of this project is provided in the context of sono-thrombolysis technique optimization (blood clot or thrombus destruction by ultrasonic cavitation). Indeed, although this technique has several advantages over the surgical solution, but it has limitations that are mainly the risk of thrombus fragments releasing in the circulation, likely to induce pulmonary embolism. In view of these sono-thrombolysis technique current limitations, it has become necessary to carry out further research to better understand the mechanisms that govern it. Hence, comes the project of the present thesis, which is particularly interested in the flows generated by the application of focused ultrasound in a liquid. The purpose of the present work is to accurately study the hydrodynamic and acoustic phenomena, in particular the fluid acoustic streaming and the ultrasound radiation force acting on solid particles. This would provide a deep understanding of the hydrodynamic phenomena occurring during HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) application in a liquid medium with particles.Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) optical technique has been adopted to measure the fluid flow as well as solid particles flow. This allowed us to characterize the focused ultrasound induced acoustic streaming in an infinite liquid medium, to compare it with a conventional circular free jet flow, and to determine a critical diameter above which solid spherical particles flow in a liquid is dominated by the radiation force rather than the acoustic streaming drag force. As a numerical approach, a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation tool was used to model the same streaming flow and to compare the numerical results with the experimental obtained ones

Testo completoThe Virgo detector is a Michelson interferometer with 3 km Fabry Perot cavities in the arms and using the power recycling technique. The main aim is the direct detection of gravitational waves emitted by astrophysical sources. The injection system is constituted essentially by a triangular 144 m long cavity with the middle mirror suspended called the Mode Cleaner, capable of selecting the TEM00 mode only. The suspended mirror is very light (360g), which can make it sensitive to the photon pressure. I developed some simulation codes for a triangular cavity with all controls identical to a real Virgo mode cleaner. These codes can be used for other studies. The first part of this thesis is dedicated to studying the effects of the radiation pressure on the mode cleaner for the lock acquisition, the optical angular spring etc. In the second part, I made the same simulation for studying the effect of the radiation pressure in 3 km long Virgo cavities, essentially on the optical angular spring, which can make problems for the automatic alignment on Virgo. Finally, I describe my participation to the Virgo commissioning, which primarily consists in working on control systems for the system of laser beam injection and their optimization

Testo completoHigh frequency combustion instabilities ( ˜few kHz) in rocket engines imply a coupling between chamber acoustics and combustion. This study debates on the influence of a transverse acoustic field on the atomization of an air-assisted jet. A coaxial injector is placed at a pressure anti-node (PA) or velocity anti-node (VA) of a stationary plane acoustic wave with maximum fluctuation of 3600 Pa. At hte Pa, the acoustic wave modulates the annular gaseous flow and can induce the emission of intense vortices, which leads to a early shear-stress instability. Placed at a VA, non linear effects due to radiation pressure flattened the jet under the form of a sheet. A criterion, established from a radiation acoustic Bond number, determines its apparition. The sheet is atomised under the action of intrinsic sheet instabilities, Faraday instability and break-up of membranes. Acoustic effects organize the spray: amass and low speed droplets stay or go to the velocity anti-node

Testo completoThe goal of this thesis is the design of a transportable speaker system, able to generate a predefined and focused sound field with a high spatial contrast. This system has eventually to allow carrying out different types of studies, for example acoustic transmission loss tests or vibration tests in non-anechoic conditions. The minimization of the number of driven channels and the number of transducers is one of the main goals of the work. The choice of the number of sources and the selection of their optimal positions in order to generate a target acoustic field has no trivial solution. To answer this question, the proposed method is based on the decomposition of the source radiation into a series of independent orthogonal functions (the "radiation modes"), constructed numerically via a singular value decomposition of the impedance matrix. By filtering the evanescent terms, the far field can be reconstructed using a small number of terms. In addition, the method allows the estimation of an efficient flow distribution to generate the target field. With the proposed method having been scarcely studied in the literature, the first part of the thesis is devoted to the problem of the experimental validation of the direct method and the study of the main parameters that are influencing the result. The problem of sources positioning in order to synthesize a predefined and focused sound field is discussed in the second part of the thesis

Testo completoThis thesis is concerned with the coupling between a fexural vibrating plate and a stratifed ground. A semi-analytical solution is introduced similar to the equivalent acoustical problem. The ground cross modal impedance is defined in a similar way as the equivalent acoustical impedance. From this definition, the ground added mass, stiffness and damping to the plate are presented. Similarities and discrepancies between the acoustical and the ground cross modal impedance are introduced. Influence of the ground stratification on the plate vibration shows new phenomena especially on the imaginary part of the ground cross modal impedance. A comparison between the model developed in this thesis and an experiment made on a tramway slab has been done as well as a comparison with a numerical model, MEFISSTO developed by P. jean at CSTB. One introduces an extension of the modeling developed and is concerned with modeling two flexural plates to the ground. It can be pointed out that problem formulation is still close to the problem formulation of one plate coupled to the ground. Three different fields of application of such modeling is presented. The first field of application is concerned with ground mitigation due to the passing tramway on. The first plate is the excited plate by the tramway and the second plate, called Horizontal Wave Barrier, is acting at the top surface as a ground attenuator. The second field of application is concerned with the modeling of building foundation. It is shown that the vibration received by the foundation of a building can be an input data for modeling an entire building vibration. The third field of application is concerned with different cases of tramway slab for reduction of ground vibration. Finally one presents an introduction of the use of this ground structure modeling in the case of inverse problem. It is shown that it is possible to identify injected force to the plate by the tramway. Furthermore the ground allows a regularization of the problem in the inversion which is not the case in the acoustical case
