Abstract (sommario):
The US Department of Homeland Security identified college sport venues as terrorist targets due to the potential for mass casualties and catastrophic social and economic impact. Therefore, it is critical for college sport safety and security personnel to implement effective risk management practices. However, deficiencies have been identified in the level of preparedness of college sport event security personnel related to risk management training and effective emergency response capabilities. To address the industry need, the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security designed, developed, and evaluated a national sport event risk management training program for National Collegiate Athletic Association command groups. The purpose of this article was to provide an overview of the design, development, and evaluation process.

Abstract (sommario):
The hospitality industry has historically trained its own employees at the entry and supervisory level. Today, because of the growth of the hospitality industry, even with the proliferation of hospitality education programs, more non-hospitality trained personnel are entering the industry than ever before. The maitre d' apprenticeship program is designed to complement the in-house training programs of hotels and restaurants with a college curriculum leading to an associate degree and national certification in food service management. The maitre d' apprenticeship program is designed as a model for community and junior colleges to provide an alternative to fulltime college programs to meet the needs of front-of-the-house food service employees who wish to develop their basic skills and supervisory talents. The model of the maitre d' apprenticeship curriculum details the course content needed to meet the certification requirements of the International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA).

Abstract (sommario):
Nationally, the urban and community forests are in a state of rapid decline. About 52% of street trees are dead or dying. The average tree life of the urban areas is about five times less than in rural areas. The growing national awareness of the importance and benefits of trees and their role in maintaining a healthy environment magnifies the need for urban forestry training programs. The Southern University Urban Forestry Program (funded by USDA Forest Service, Southern Region) is set up to address the critical need for high quality, user-oriented urban forestry training for minority students, and to bridge the gap between minority participation and national forestry resources, education and management programs. This unique program places major emphasis on experiential learning activities in addition to sound academic education. The four-year curriculum will be centered around forestry, horticulture, urban and community planning and landscape architecture.

Abstract (sommario):
Context.—Competency gaps in leadership and laboratory management skills continue to exist between what training programs deliver and what recent graduates and future employers expect. A number of recent surveys substantiate this. Interest in delivering content in these areas is challenged by time constraints, the presence of knowledgeable faculty role models, and the necessary importance placed on diagnostic skills development, which overshadows any priority trainees have toward developing these skills. Objective.—To describe the problem, the near-future horizon, the current solutions, and the recommendations for improving resident training in laboratory management. Data Sources.—The demands of new health care delivery models and the value being placed on these skills by the Pathology Milestones and Next Accreditation System initiative of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education for training programs emphasizes their importance. This initiative includes 6 milestone competencies in laboratory management. Organizations like the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Pathology Foundation, the College of American Pathologists, and the Association of Pathology Chairs Program Directors Section recognize these competencies and are working to create new tools for training programs to deploy. Conclusions.—It is our recommendation that (1) every training program develop a formal educational strategy for management training, (2) greater opportunity and visibility be afforded for peer-reviewed publications on management topics in mainstream pathology literature, and (3) pathology milestones–oriented tools be developed to assist program directors and their trainees in developing this necessary knowledge and skills.

Abstract (sommario):
Law enforcement can be a physically and mentally demanding occupation. It is well known that health and fitness is highly related to job performance, career longevity and safety. There is insufficient research on the development of higher education-based coursework in criminal justice programs that emphasize the development of healthful behavior patterns and physical fitness. The purpose of this study was to determine if successful completion of a 14-week health education and fitness training course would increase participants’ physical fitness and capabilities to perform essential physical fitness tasks needed for a career in law enforcement. Fifty-one college students participated in a health promotion program that included multiple components of wellness such as physical fitness, exercise principles, healthy eating behaviors, goal setting and stress management. Results indicated that a college-based health promotion course can successfully prepare physically fit and police academy-ready criminal justice graduates that have an educational foundation in healthy lifestyle.

Abstract (sommario):
In the Party's 20 National Congress reports, "innovation" appeared 55 times, covering politics, economy, culture, education and other aspects. The fifth part, "Implementing the strategy of rejuvenating the Country through science and Education and strengthening the talent support for modernization", mentions innovation for 21 times. It can be said that "innovation" has become the main melody and the strongest sound of today's times. College students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program is an important carrier to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities. In this paper, taking Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages as an example, the investigation and analysis found that there are some problems in the implementation of college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan, such as students' innovation and entrepreneurship awareness to be improved, project innovation to be enhanced, the professionalism of the tutor team to be improved, and the achievement evaluation system to be improved. In response to these problems, the author proposed corresponding suggestions and countermeasures. To constantly improve the "Big innovation" plan management system, improve the quality of the project.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to test the feasibility of implementing a healthy lifestyles intervention to maintain or achieve healthy weight for low-income young adults in vocational education. Design/methodology/approach Non-randomized, quasi-experimental feasibility test of a ten-week intervention with follow-up assessment designed using PRECEDE-PROCEED. A convenience sample included low-income young adults (n=165), 18-24 years recruited from two vocational training facilities. The intervention had weekly: online educational modules, targeting the non-dieting approach through healthful eating, and physical activity; and messages to promote fruit and vegetable intake, increased physical activity and stress management. Anthropometrics were measured, and an online survey on physical activity and eating behavior (e.g. self-regulation, self-instruction, emotional eating) was administered at baseline, post-, and follow-up. Findings At baseline, males were overweight and females were obese based on average BMI; no significant change in BMI, food intake, physical activity, or stress management were noted following the intervention. Eating behavior changed in treatment vs control group; food self-regulation was higher (p=0.025) for high use treatment group compared to the control group. Practical implications Lifestyle interventions are critical for low-income young adults who are overweight or obese by 18-24 years of age. Young adults who engage in such interventions can make food behavior changes that can have a mediating effect on healthy weight management. Models like PRECEDE-PROCEED are vital to success when working toward sustainable programs within communities. Originality/value Few healthy lifestyle programs have been reported for low-income, non-college young adults, specifically with a largely male population, and none with PRECEDE-PROCEED.

Abstract (sommario):
Taekwondo, a traditional Korean martial art, has gained popularity worldwide and is recognized for its physical and mental benefits. This study investigates the influence of Taekwondo training on the psychological health and anti-frustration ability of college students. The primary aim is to examine how participation in Taekwondo classes affects the psychological well-being and anti-frustration ability of college students. This study utilized a pre-post intervention design, employing the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-20) and the Connor Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) to assess participants' psychological health and resilience before and after Taekwondo training. Participants completed pre-training assessments, underwent a structured Taekwondo training program, and completed post-training assessments. Quantitative analysis compared pre- and post-training scores to determine any significant differences. Initial findings reveal a significant correlation between Taekwondo training and improved psychological health indicators, such as reduced anxiety and increased self-esteem. Moreover, participants demonstrate enhanced resilience in coping with academic and personal challenges. Taekwondo training emerges as a promising intervention for enhancing college students' psychological health and anti-frustration ability. By promoting physical fitness, self-discipline, and stress management techniques, Taekwondo fosters a holistic approach to well-being.

Abstract (sommario):
Health promotion is defined as the process of enabling people to increase control over and to enhance their health. It focuses on individual behaviors towards a wide range of interventions on social and environmental determinants of health and other health related aspects of life (WHO, 2015; 2017). Thus, health promotion implies the need to promote and empower people with resources and skills towards health and well-being (Saboga-Nunes, et al., 2019). The literature reports a negative variation in the lifestyle of university students, and simultaneously demonstrates a significant percentage of university students with a set of emotional, relational, anxiety and stress management difficulties (WHO, 2021, 2018). The need to curb behavioral tendencies harmful to the health of young university students comes justify the need for health promotion in the context of these institutions. This study aimed at analyzing the impact of university students' training, in the area of health promotion and of personal and socio-emotional skills. Participated 286 students. The results show that in addition to the skills worked during the training, the students’ well-being and health also improved at the end of the training. The variables that evidenced to be the most important for the university students’ health promotion were that they finished the training with more self-esteem, resilience, psychological well-being, self-efficacy, happiness and less instability and alienation. Regarding the pre and post evaluation comparisons about skills, importance and usefulness of HBSC/JUnP training, it was observed that both knowledge about health aspects and personal and socio-emotional skills, namely the resilience, self-regulation and problem-solving strategies had a strong positive impact on promoting the health and well-being of students. Higher education institutions present themselves as enhancers of public health, contributing to the students make healthy choices. Abstract (sommario):
According to the Vocational Competence Standards for College Counselors (Interim) issued by the Ministry of Education of China, this study constructs the leadership of college counselors from four dimensions: ideological education guidance ability, organizational management ability, consulting service ability, theory and practice research. Based on the questionnaire and interview survey of 320 counselors and counselors' management positions from six colleges and universities in Hunan Province, and the use of factor molecule, variance analysis, multiple regression analysis, structural equation and other measurement methods, this paper discusses the main factors that affect counselors' leadership ability from individual factors and school factors. The results showed that the gender samples had a significant effect on the consulting service ability. Age samples show significant influence on organizational management ability, and counselors of different ages have significant differences in individual dimensions of leadership ability. The years of working as counselors have significant effects on ideological education and guidance, organizational management ability and consulting service ability. Among them, counselors lack the consciousness and ability of theoretical practice research. Most counselors lack subjective initiative and ability in theoretical and practical research. According to the research results, through the personal factors (theoretical learning, vocational training, skill competition, academic exchange), school factors (career development, ability training, assessment and incentive) two levels of seven dimensions of the influencing factors of college counselors' leadership, in-depth research is made. In addition, specific suggestions are put forward from the following five aspects: building a learning and training platform for counselors, building a theoretical and practical research platform, creating a platform to show counselors' work performance and professional quality development, and establishing target incentive and career development incentive, so as to promote the professional, professional and expert development of counselors and effectively improve the overall quality and construction level of counselors.

The collected data were derived into 3 major categories, 6 middle categories, and 17 sub-categories by performing emic coding to identify the field practice experience. Results First, the characteristics of the field training site of the study participants were the reactor facility, measurement room, waste management space and office at the dismantling site, which can be thought of as a construction site from a spatial point of view. Second, in terms of human relations, I had a good relationship with everyone in the department. Next, the tasks of the study participants varied from administrative tasks such as planning and writing reports to measuring radioactivity concentrations in the air, and it was found that the job description and interpersonal relationships within the department were the most important in the field training program. Finally, the research participants were able to broaden their knowledge and determine the appropriateness of the work they performed through the field practice program to determine their own career direction. Conclusions The results of this study suggest that it is necessary to help understand the field training programs of nuclear-related research institutes and to assign the roles of mentors and colleagues in the field training programs and appropriates jobs to field training students.

Abstract (sommario):
The Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) Advanced Master Gardener-Tree Steward (AMGTS) program provides advanced training in leadership development and arboriculture to MG volunteer educators so they may expand the influence of extension through leadership in community forestry. A statewide survey of agents, MGs, and foresters served as the basis for developing the training package, which was funded in part by the Virginia Department of Forestry. According to a statewide survey, 70% of VCE MGs and extension agents with MG programs would like to be involved in community tree programming, while only 26% was currently involved. Typically, agents cited limited staff and volunteer resources as the primary factors in restricting program expansion. Furthermore, 90% of municipal foresters indicated they would like to work with trained volunteers. The AMGTS program simultaneously answers the desire of MGs to expand their role in the community landscape and the need of VCE to expand its outreach with increasingly limited resources. AMGTS training, guided by a 10-unit resource book, integrates technical and program management expertise to foster volunteer pride and self-sufficiency. This allows MG tree stewards to coordinate much of their own training and recruit and manage non-MG volunteers to whom they can provide limited training for specific projects, thus allowing program expansion without additional staff. The training is designed for delivery by knowledgeable professionals in the local community, such as arborists, horticulturists, college professors, extension specialists, MGs, and others who can provide quality training following the program guidelines.

Abstract (sommario):
On-the-job training (OJT) program is one of the most crucial programs in higher education and is an integral part of the educational system in the Philippines, specifically in tertiary. The study determined the relationship between the academic performance and practicum performance of 59 BSBA Marketing Management students at the College of Business, Systems Plus College Foundation, who had taken their practicum in 23 organizations. The research method used in this study was the descriptive-correlation method. Data was based on the Practicum Evaluation Report where student trainees were evaluated on 5 performance key area of assessment. It includes personal characteristics, attitude towards the job, job performance, adherence to company policy, and competence breakdown into 22 items. Findings showed that the student trainees got the highest rating on adherence to company policies rated as very good, followed by job performance, attitude towards, competence, and personal characteristics. The students were rated low in oral and written communication skills as an area for evaluation with a rating of good. Thereby creating an impression that this area should be improved by strengthening the communication skills in all courses by integrating interactive teaching-learning methods like presentations, role plays, debates, cases, written reports, portfolios, and reaction/ term papers to further their communication skills.

This study aims to describe the on-the-job training experiences of BSMA students at Saint Columban College, Pagadian City. A single case study was most appropriate for the research’s proper conduct since this study wants to describe and understand the on-the-job training of BSMA students who experience this program. The findings led the researchers to the conclusion that the research participants described their on-the-job training as a journey of learning, growth, and application of their academic knowledge to the real-world context of accounting and management fields. They expressed a sense of practicality and hands-on learning, emphasizing the transition from theoretical concepts to practical applications. Their narratives show the importance of concrete experiences within their training, followed by reflective observations that allow them to derive meaningful insights. The development of abstract conceptualizations and stage of active experimentation highlights the value of these experiences in shaping their professional skills and development.

Abstract (sommario):
Dancers often view injuries as a necessary sacrifice for participating in their art form. The purpose of this research was to determine the frequency and patterns of injury in a non-conservatory, liberal arts dance environment. These data may enable dance departments to provide more effective health resources. METHODS: Dancers registered in technique courses in a liberal arts dance department (including ballet, modern, tap, and jazz) completed an injury questionnaire immediately following the occurrence of any dance-related injury over the course of one semester. RESULTS: Out of 168 students registered in the department, 46 injuries were reported throughout the semester. The greatest rate of injury was in September and December with 0.95 and 0.65 injuries reported per day, respectively. 89.1% of participants indicated that they would use a direct-access, on-campus physical therapist or athletic trainer if available, though 45.7% of injured participants indicated that they would seek treatment off campus. CONCLUSIONS: Dancers in a liberal arts collegiate program may train at a higher intensity during the semester than summer break, which likely accounts for the high incidence of injury in September. Of those injured, most planned on self-treating, but none planned on missing class. Pre-semester screening and post-semester cross-training education should be implemented in liberal arts dance programs to help decrease the rate of injury seen when returning to dance following prolonged time off from dancing. Additionally, direct access to physical therapy or athletic training treatment would likely be utilized by these students if available.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The purpose of this study is to explore ways to establish an effective coordinative mechanism to ensure the effective practice of career coaching in innovativeness and creativity training programs in higher education. Design/methodology/approach This study aims to explore a successful case – that of Wenzhou University College – to elucidate how to establish an effective coordinative mechanism. The Delphi method is an interview approach for obtaining and analyzing case data. Findings According to research results, first, the causes of conflict were found and an attempt was made to solve these by using a personal system and training program structure revision; the main reasons for the conflicts are an overemphasis on “experts’ experience leading” and a “cognitive gap” between experts as coaches and teaching faculties; second, to decrease conflict, a revision of the training program structure will aid the improvement in the specialization for experts and teaching faculties; and third, revision of one’s personal system requires the teaching faculties to be from within the industries or companies facilitating the process of these faculties gaining practical experience; moreover, it will be easier if experts are the ones who are communicating how to re-design training programs and cooperative modes. Originality/value This study provides a coordinative mechanism for the effective practice of innovativeness and creativity training in higher education institutions. On the basis of research results, higher education institutions can effectively develop a training program of innovativeness and creativity based on the concept of career coaching.

Veterans benefits that subsidize education and training constitute the largest federal program for student aid. Using data from the 1987 Survey of Veterans, the author presents estimates of the effect of veterans benefits on schooling completed since entering the military and on subsequent earnings. Veterans benefits are estimated to increase schooling by roughly 1.4 years, which implies annual earnings approximately 6% higher than would have been expected in the absence of the benefits. This premium appears to accrue primarily to the 77% of benefit users who attended college or graduate school.

Abstract (sommario):
In nephrology, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has multiple applications including the rapid evaluation of acute kidney injury, enhancing the initial evaluation of chronic kidney disease, direct evaluation of vascular access, and improved fluid balance management in acute and chronic settings [1, 2]. Recently, the role of POCUS has been formally acknowledged by the American College of Physicians and curricula specific to nephrology have been proposed [3, 4]. However, the integration of a novel clinical skill into a field comes with its unique set of challenges. Above all, most nephrologists in leadership roles within fellowship training programs lack POCUS experience, which represent a significant barrier for adequate exposure and teaching. Although educational curriculum centered on nephrology have been proposed, the optimal model to ensure adequate POCUS exposure considering the scarcity of expertise among educators is not known.

Abstract (sommario):
A study of 481 high school students who completed Teen Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training using the Federal Emergency Management Agency CERT curriculum was conducted over a five-year period, with the objective of identifying the impacts of that training. Through both quantitative and qualitative data collection, the researcher found that a highly engaging emergency response curriculum has multiple positive impacts on teens completing the course. Those impacts include explicit knowledge and skills of emergency preparedness and response, college and career goal orientation enhancement, as well as enhancement to self-efficacy, self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-concept. Replicating such curricula and comprehensive training program at other secondary schools could have a very positive impact on the emergency preparedness and response capacity of communities where it is implemented.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract INTRODUCTION While hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has become the standard of care for many patients in developed countries, the significant economic investment, infrastructure, and healthcare provider training that are required has prohibited it from being widely adapted. We describe our experience in developing a transplant program at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in Bangladesh via a partnership with health care providers at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). In 2011, the Minister of Health in Bangladesh became interested in establishing a transplant program at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). DMCH was established in 1946 and has 2300 beds located in two buildings (DMCH-1 with 1800 beds and DMCH-2 with 500 beds). The Bangladesh government and AK Khan Healthcare trust, an interested non-governmental organization (NGO), provided funding for the endeavor. Despite available funding, we faced significant challenges due to limitations in experienced healthcare personnel. METHODS The DMCH transplantation unit was built on the top floor of DMCH-2 and includes 5 patient rooms, an apheresis area, the hematopathology and general hematology labs, and also includes rooms for leukemia patients who are not currently undergoing transplantation. Three hematologists, two apheresis technicians, one lab technician, and 1 pharmacist from DMCH participated in an exchange program during which they each spent 2-3 months at MGH observing transplantation practices. Additionally, several physicians from MGH traveled to Bangladesh and spent several weeks training DMCH physicians in diagnostics, peripheral blood stem cell collection, transfusion medicine, and management of potential complications. The training of Bangladeshi nurses was an extensive undertaking. In brief, 25 nurses from DMCH were selected to take part in a novel enhanced specialized nurses training program (ESPNTP) run by nurses from MGH, which is described in detail in a separate report. This intensive 12-month program included 3 months of training in English language, 3 months of fundamental nursing training, and 6 months of specialized training in HSCT. Nurses continue to train on an ongoing basis via an advanced curriculum taught by MGH nursing staff. RESULTS The first transplant was performed on March 10, 2014. Since that time, DMCH has performed 14 autologous stem cell transplants (9 multiple myeloma, 2 diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, acute myelogenous leukemia, Hodgkin's lymphoma, and peripheral T-cell lymphoma). Baseline characteristics, transplant protocol, and summary of results are shown in (Table 1). All patients engrafted successfully (range 9-16 days). Remission was achieved in all cases, and so far there has only been one case of relapsed disease in a patient with multiple myeloma. Significant complications include mucositis (grade II-IV: 12), febrile neutropenia (8), bacteremia (S. epi: 2; P. aeurginosa: 2, MRSA/K. pneumonia: 1), one case of acinetobacter pneumonia, and one case of cytomegalovirus reactivation. DISCUSSION We attribute a large part of the program's ability to successfully perform its first transplants within 3 years of conception due not only to available financial support but also logistical and personnel support from collaboration with an established transplant center. A major goal of the current program is to ultimately establish a transplant center capable of performing allogeneic stem cell transplantation, as this would enable treatment of patients with thalassemia, the most common genetic disorder in the country that carries a high burden on the economy. Abstract (sommario):
Context As the professional degree in athletic training transitions to the master's level, a growing concern for programs is enrollment. Understanding the factors that influence a student's choice of a graduate program in athletic training will provide institutions with vital information for marketing and enrollment management. Objective To explore factors that influence a student's choice of a professional graduate athletic training program. Design Cross-sectional. Setting Online survey. Patients or Other Participants A total of 52 participants from a convenience sample of 140 graduate students enrolled in a graduate professional athletic training program completed the survey: 43 females (82.7%) and 9 males (17.3%). Data Collection and Analysis Data collection took place over 4 weeks between April and May 2019. Participants completed an online questionnaire that consisted of 11 demographic items, 6 Likert-scale items about factors that may have influenced school choice, and 2 open-ended questions about career goals and pursuing a doctoral degree. We calculated descriptive statistics, frequency distributions, and percentages. Results Factors ranked as very important in influencing a student's choice fell within the categories of athletic training program and athletic training program faculty. Those ranked as not important were related to ethnicity and gender. Additionally, over half of the participants indicated an intended career path within the college or professional setting. Conclusions Although a variety of factors can influence a student's choice of graduate school, today's consumer seems mostly interested in program factors such as Board of Certification pass rate, accreditation status, and clinical sites. As programs transition to the graduate level, marketing and recruitment strategies should be designed around these factors to ensure enrollment.

Abstract (sommario):
Cyber security training, as many other aspects in our lives, has been adapted to address concerns related to travel restrictions and group gatherings resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, ENISA, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, had to re-visit and significantly modify its already established course on Information Security Management and ICT security, which is provided under the auspices of the European Security and Defence College (ESDC). The program provides public employees the opportunity to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to assume an Information Security Management role. The restructured course was introduced to address the COVID-19 restrictions and has proven to be equally effective to the classroom-delivered course, if not more effective at some parts. This paper presents the main structure of the fully online training, its innovative elements, and the assessment results which prove that COVID-19 pandemic has triggered the introduction of innovative and successful on-line training scenarios.

Abstract (sommario):
Synopsis In the 1990s, Mike Flanagan foresaw video moving from analog to digital and developed an equipment rental business to meet the needs of the entertainment/media production industry. By 1996 he established a second company to offer training in the use of Avid, a digital video-editing program. Flanagan sold the rental business in 1998 and by 2002 expanded the training away from a business model to a full-fledged college business model. By 2014 what started as a successful training program developed into a negative interaction with the US Department of Education and Flanagan found himself being forced out of business. Research methodology This case was originally a client-based project conducted real time in an MBA-level marketing course at the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University. Relevant courses and levels The case is well suited for a variety of business and law courses that integrate ethical decision making in their curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The case allows for a greater understanding of the implications of managerial behavior tied to ethical beliefs and the possible outcomes that may result. It also allows for a stronger grasp of the integral nature of management, staff, consumers and outside organizations on the pervasive impact of non-ethical behavior. Last, this case creates a framework for students to assess how ethics influence managerial behavior that will affect an organization’s success. Theoretical bases What ethical duties and obligations does a business owe to its customers and other stakeholders? Is ignorance an excuse for failing to meet those ethical obligations?

Abstract (sommario):
There is a close association between caribou and people in the Northwest Territories. The workshop logo depicted that relationship and maintained our awareness of that fact throughout the workshop. We were happy to see that the public and interested groups from in and around Yellowknife took advantage of the opportunity to learn more about caribou biology and management. The entire second year class of the Renewable Resource Training Program from the Thebacha Campus of Arctic College in Fort Smith attended and both the Denendeh Conservation Board and the Beverly and Kaminuriak Caribou Management Board scheduled meetings in Yellowknife to correspond with this workshop.

Abstract (sommario):
This article shares the experience of establishing the Emergency Management and Homeland Security degree program at Texas Southern University (TSU), Houston, Texas. Emergency management programs are evolving and keep increasing and the nature of jobs of emergency managers are becoming more complex. Consequently, there is increasing need to have minority emergency managers who would be able to relate directly with other minorities impacted by disasters. This study uses the case of TSU to discuss the challenges and successes of developing a fairly unknown program at a historically black college and university and how the obstacles were overcome. It further discusses the process of the degree program development, the curriculum, and the present state of the program. This article concludes there are many advantages in training emergency managers of color in the field. These would be professionals in the field with the added advantage of being people of color. They would understand planning for and responding to those affected because they most likely have the same background and similar experience. Additionally, the developer of any new program should expect some form of opposition from faculty, staff, and administration but once central administration buys in, the program is worth the while.
