Abstract (sommario):
Dissociative functions in the mourning process are seen to occur in conjunction with integrative trends. The initial shock reaction in mourning is considered a paradigm of normal dissociation in the mourning process. Some research and clinical implications are addressed. Dissociation is understood to be related to the traumatic significance of death in human consciousness. Four psychological categories of dissociative functioning in the processing of death are discerned. Implications of normal dissociative processes in the mourning process for the theory of the unity of the self are raised.

Abstract (sommario):
The validity of the process dissociation procedure was examined by manipulating attention and speed of responding in a recognition task. Both manipulations were expected to decrease the probability of controlled memory processes, c, while leaving the probability of automatic memory processes, a, unaffected. In order to estimate c and a, a multinomial processing tree model was fitted to the data. Contrary to expectation, a double dissociation (i.e.a decrease inc coupled with an increase in a) was obtained, suggesting that a does not accurately measure the probability of automatic processes. The results are discussed with reference to the independence assumption in the process dissociation procedure.

Abstract (sommario):
Introduction: Dissociative symptoms are present in a various number of psychiatric disorders and are viewed as a major risk factor for suicidal and self-destructive behavior. Dissociation is defined in DSM-5 as a “disruption of and/or discontinuity in the normal integration of consciousness, memory, identity, emotion, perception, body representation, motor control, and behavior”. Assessing dissociation within different categories of mental disorders can be used to predict symptom severity and nonresponse to psychotherapeutic treatments. The most important tool in this process is the Dissociative Experiences Scale (DES). The purpose of the current study is to extend the understanding of dissociation in Psychiatric Disorders. Material and methods: The current study used PubMed and Cochrane databases to identify relevant articles that refer to the subject of dissociation in Psychiatric Disorders. Results and Discussions: Dissociation and dissociative disorders have been at the root of continuous controversy in psychiatric and psychology communities. The general confusion comes from the reduced conceptual distinction between dissociation as a symptom, process, deficit and psychological defense. At the high end of the DES score we find dissociative disorders, but closely followed by posttraumatic stress disorder, borderline personality disorder and conversion disorder with eating disorders, schizophrenia and anxiety disorders at midrange and the lowest scoring DES psychiatric disorder is found in bipolar disorders. Early intervention, based on these scores, show major improvement in maladaptive functionality, suicidal and self-destructive behavior, coupled with a reduction in total treatment cost. Conclusions: There is a significant benefit in careful assessment of dissociative symptoms for the entire spectrum of mental disorders. There is a major need to raise awareness in all mental health facilities, of the value that this has in the current clinical setting.

Abstract (sommario):
Background. Dissociation is a generally recognized phenomenon in psychology and psychiatry; however, questions are still not fully resolved about the di!erence between pathological and normal dissociation, as well as the role of dissociation, depending on its aetiology, in the formation of clinical manifestations of mental disorders. Objective. To complement the existing data about the signi"cance of dissociation in non-psychotic mental disorders. Design. Using the Dissociative Experience Scale (DES), we screened 62 patients (13 male and 49 female) from the Non-Psychotic Conditions Inpatient Department of the Udmurt Republican Clinical Psychiatric Hospital (Izhevsk, Russia). Nineteen of the patients had mental disorders of organic aetiology and 43 patients had mental disorders of psychogenic aetiology. Results. Dissociation at the pathological level was detected in 12.9% of the patients, all of them female. Among patients with psychogenic disorders, the proportion of patients with pathological dissociation was more than three times that of patients with organic disorders. Among the particular dissociative phenomena, absorption had the highest average severity, both in the general sample and in each aetiological group of patients, while dissociative amnesia had the lowest average severity. #e highest levels of dissociation were found in young female patients who had never been married. In patients with psychogenic disorders, the average dissociation severity was signi"cantly higher than in the general population, while in patients with organic disorders it was signi"cantly lower. Conclusion. #e dissociation phenomenon may play a signi"cant symptomforming role in young women su!ering from non-psychotic mental disorders of psychogenic aetiology. In the case of organic mental disorders, the severity of dissociative manifestations decreases even below the conditionally normal level, which may indirectly indicate the destruction of dissociative physiological mechanisms by an organic brain process.

Abstract (sommario):
Dissociative disorders are heterogeneous group of mental disorders with dissociation as dominant symptoms. Dissociation is often defined as partial or total disconnection between memories of the past, awareness of identity and of immediate sensations, and control of bodily movements, often resulting from traumatic experiences, intolerable problems, or disturbed relationships. Etiopatogenezis of dissociative disorders have not exactly known yet. The process of dissociation is independently associated with several distressing conditions such as psychiatric diagnoses, somatization, current psychological distress, and past sexual and physical victimization. The disturbance may have a sudden or gradual onset and may be temporary or chronic in its course. Dissociation has a negative impact on treatment oucome. Additionaly, dissociative patients may have an insecure attachment pattern negatively affecting the therapeutic relationship. Conceptually, the course of treatment is to improve coping, maintain reality, and establish normal integrative functions. Goals:1.improve thought processes;2.maintain a sense of reality;3.improve coping skills;4.develop stress management abilities;5.increase identity integration. The treatment is possible with psychotherapy or pharmacotherapy or both. We will introduce the CBT approach. Participants will learn:•pharmacological possibilities in the treatment of dissociative disorders;•CBT model of dissociative disorders;•motivational interviewing with dissociative patient;•how to develope therapeutic relationship with dissociative patient;•conceptualization of dissociative disorder with the patient;•Socratic questioning;•working with cognitive, emotional and behavioral avoidance;•exposure technique with dissociative problems;•problem solving.Supported by the research project IGA NR 9323-3.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: Previous research has indicated that dissociation might be a negative predictor of treatment outcome in cognitive behavioural therapy for patients with obsessive-compulsive and anxiety disorders. Using a naturalistic design it was hypothesized that higher levels of dissociation predict poorer outcome in inpatients with affective, anxiety and somatoform disorders participating in a brief psychodynamic psychotherapy. Method: A total of 133 patients completed the Symptom Check List (SCL-90), the German short version of the Dissociative Experiences Scale and the Inventory of Interpersonal Problems at the beginning and the end of treatment. The Global Severity Index (GSI) of the SCL-90 was chosen as outcome criterion. Results: A total of 62.4% of study participants were classified as treatment responders, that is, they showed a statistically significant change of their GSI scores. Controlling for general psychopathology, the non-responders had significantly higher baseline dissociation scores than the responders. In a logistic regression analysis with non-response as a dependent variable, a comorbid personality disorder, low baseline psychopathology and high dissociation levels emerged as relevant predictors, but interpersonal problems and other comorbid disorders did not. Conclusions: Dissociation has a negative impact on treatment outcome. It is suggested that dissociative subjects dissociate as a response to negative emotions arising in psychotherapy leading to a less favourable outcome. Additionally, dissociative patients may have an insecure attachment pattern negatively affecting the therapeutic relationship. Thus, dissociation may directly and indirectly influence the treatment process and outcome.

Abstract (sommario):
Purpose The term dissociation can describe a coping strategy to protect oneself against something unwanted in the moment, a disconnection from sensations and experiences in the here and now. Although the more severe experiences of dissociation have been the subject of intense study over the last two decades, much less has been written about clients commonly seen in mental health services with mild to moderate dissociative conditions. Specifically, the purpose of this paper is to attend to therapeutic work with a client who experienced moderate dissociation, which caused disruptions to her autobiographical narrative and sense-of-self. Design/methodology/approach This single case design details the therapeutic journey of a Caucasian woman in her early 40s, who experienced moderate dissociation. The report illustrates how the process of creative artwork formulation helped address unwanted dissociative experiences whilst enhancing other coping strategies. Findings The client’s personal resources combined with a creative and responsive approach to formulation and reformulation facilitated the process of reconnecting with herself and others through developing awareness of her strengths and past means of coping, finally developing a consistent self-narrative. Practical implications The experiences of a creative approach to formulation are discussed in relation to the client’s past traumas and case relevant theory. These preliminary findings suggest creative artwork formulation is an effective tool in terms of developing trust and shared understanding within the therapeutic relationship and meaning making processes throughout therapy. Originality/value This case study presents an account of creative artwork formulation used as a method of formulation and reformulation specifically with a client experiencing moderate dissociative experiences following interpersonal traumas. Further, the report discusses the ways in which creative artwork formulation facilitated memory exploration and integration, as well as containing meaning making and healing.

Abstract (sommario):
BackgroundIt has been proposed that the relationship between childhood trauma and hallucinations can be explained by dissociative processes. The present study examined whether the effect of childhood trauma on hallucination-proneness is mediated by dissociative tendencies. In addition, the influence of dissociative symptoms on a cognitive process believed to underlie hallucinatory experiences (i.e. reality discrimination; the capacity to discriminate between internal and external cognitive events) was also investigated.MethodPatients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (n=45) and healthy controls (with no history of hallucinations;n=20) completed questionnaire measures of hallucination-proneness, dissociative tendencies and childhood trauma, as well as performing an auditory signal detection task.ResultsCompared to both healthy and non-hallucinating clinical controls, hallucinating patients reported both significantly higher dissociative tendencies and childhood sexual abuse. Dissociation positively mediated the effect of childhood trauma on hallucination-proneness. This mediational role was particularly robust for sexual abuse over other types of trauma. Signal detection abnormalities were evident in hallucinating patients and patients with a history of hallucinations, but were not associated with pathological dissociative symptoms.ConclusionsThese results are consistent with dissociative accounts of the trauma-hallucinations link. Dissociation, however, does not affect reality discrimination. Future research should examine whether other cognitive processes associated with both dissociative states and hallucinations (e.g. deficits in cognitive inhibition) may explain the relationship between dissociation and hallucinatory experiences.

Abstract (sommario):
AbstractThe ab initio molecular dynamics (MD) simulations using an atom-centered density matrix propagation method are carried out in the first time to investigate the dissociative electron attachment (DEA) processes of adenine and its tautomer in the gas phase. Since the incoming electron are captured on the lowest π∗ anti-bond orbital, which is led to the different N–H bond, the C–H bond and the C–N bond are broken. The dominant anion observed in DEA dissociation process is the closed-shell dehydrogenated anion (Ade − H)−. The additional anions (Ade − NH2)− and (Ade − 2H)− are also obtained in ADMP simulation. The results are well consistent with the previous DEA experimental results. Thus, the ADMP method is used to gain a more intuitive and better understanding of the necessary dissociation process in the DEA experiment.

Abstract (sommario):
We investigate dissociative electron attachment to tirapazamine through a crossed electron–molecule beam experiment and quantum chemical calculations. After the electron is attached and the resulting anion reaches the first excited state, D1, we suggest a fast transition into the ground electronic state through a conical intersection with a distorted triazine ring that almost coincides with the minimum in the D1 state. Through analysis of all observed dissociative pathways producing heavier ions (90–161 u), we consider the predissociation of an OH radical with possible roaming mechanism to be the common first step. This destabilizes the triazine ring and leads to dissociation of highly stable nitrogen-containing species. The benzene ring is not altered during the process. Dissociation of small anionic fragments (NO2−, CN2−, CN−, NH2−, O−) cannot be conclusively linked to the OH predissociation mechanism; however, they again do not require dissociation of the benzene ring.

Carbonate decomposition with significant heat energy absorption takes place at siderite ore oxidizing roasting in a shaft furnace. Thermal dissociation of complex carbonates comprising the siderite ore was studied. Thermodynamic analysis was carried out for a sideroplesite decomposition process. Formulas allowing determination of the carbonate dissociation and exchange energy rates were obtained using the regular ion solution theory. The ion composition and thermodynamic activity simulation results were described for sideroplesites as well as iron and magnesium cation shares. The work output is of certain interest as knowing the initial sideroplesite decomposition temperature and the carbonate dissociation rate the optimal dimensions of various zones throughout the shaft furnace height may be defined, the roasting process time may be calculated and the optimal heat treatment conditions as well as the firing rate may be established.

Abstract (sommario):
A model is proposed that describes the transfer of ions and the process of water dissociation in a system with a bipolar membrane and adjacent diffusion layers. The model considers the transfer of four types of ions: the cation and anion of salt and the products of water dissociation—hydrogen and hydroxyl ions. To describe the process of water dissociation, a model for accelerating the dissociation reaction with the participation of ionogenic groups of the membrane is adopted. The boundary value problem is solved numerically using COMSOL® Multiphysics 5.5 software. An analysis of the results of a numerical experiment shows that, at least in a symmetric electromembrane system, there is a kinetic limitation of the water dissociation process, apparently associated with the occurrence of water recombination reaction at the of the bipolar region. An interpretation of the entropy factor (β) is given as a characteristic length, which shows the possibility of an ion that appeared because of the water dissociation reaction to be removed from the reaction zone without participating in recombination reactions.

AbstractThe aim of this review was to ascertain whether an examination of the theory of structural dissociation of the personality (TSDP) and its treatment may lead to recommendations in the treatment of dissociative identity disorder (DID) and other trauma-related disorders utilizing CBT. An analysis of the neurobiology of trauma will aid this process. The literature review considers a variety of literature on TSDP. Several themes were identified which suggested that dissociation refers to a structural dividedness of the personality and that there is a psychobiological pathway for all trauma-related disorders. Additionally the role of bottom-up vs. top-down processing was explored. Recommendations for the treatment of trauma-related disorders using CBT have been made.

Often this task is rather difficult because new or modified methods have to be investigated thoroughly and the main parameters for process modeling and effectiveness estimation have to be set. Biomass concentration in biosorption process is important technological parameter though there is no accurate technique for its estimation. Thermal dissociation technique to determine biomass concentration was developed as an alternative to the standard volatile suspended solids (VSS) method. Biomass content is important for the technological calculations of the system, estimation of the oxidation potential and for the evaluation of biomass growth in accordance to decomposed pollutants, etc. Thermal dissociation technique is based on the difference in the sorbent and biomass burn out temperatures. The biomass content research results are given for sand, gravel and for activated carbon BAS-A.

Abstract (sommario):
Semiconductor devices of quantum electronics based on InP/GaInAsP heterostructures require the creation of non-defective chips for emitting devices and photodetectors. The production of such chips is impossible without a thorough technological study of the growth processes of epitaxial structures. One of the important problems in relation to the growth of such structures is the growth defects associated with the process of dissociation of indium phosphide on the surface during their growth. The aim of the work was the investigation of the process and mechanism of destruction (dissociation) of the surface of indium phosphide substrates in the range of growth temperatures of structures, as well as the study of methods andtechniques that allow minimize the process of dissociation of surface of indium phosphide. The work provides studies of the growth processes of InP/GaInAsP heterostructures, from the liquid phase, taking into account the degradation processes of the growth surface and the mechanisms for the formation of dissociation defects. The schemes of the dissociation process of the InP on the surface of the substrate and the formation of the defective surface of the substrate were analysed. At the same time, technological methods allowing to minimize the dissociation of the surface compound during the process of liquid-phase epitaxy were shown. The original design of a graphite cassette allowing to minimize the dissociation of the indium phosphide substrate in the process of liquid-phase epitaxy was proposed

Abstract (sommario):
ObjectivesDissociation has been related to emotional dysregulation and eating psychopathology. Dissociation may interfere with the learning process, affecting at the therapy negatively. The aim of the study is to analyse if at the eating disorders (ED), dissociation is linked to temperamental traits or also to character traits, which are susceptible to be modulated during the therapeutic process.MethodsWe studied 119 females that started an outpatient program for their ED. We used the Dissociative Experience Scale (DES), Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI), Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-40), and the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). We used multiple regression analysis.ResultsDissociation was associated with high scores on the EAT-40, even controlling the effect of anxiety traits, which also was related to dissociation. The temperament dimension “searching for novelty”, has been related in an opposite way to the DES. Also, the “dimension of transcendence “character and “self determination” influenced on the DES.ConclusionsThis study confirms the importance of improving Self Determination levels at ED therapy, which influence on a lot of prognostic aspects, such as protecting from dissociation, which is related to anxiety and alimentary psychopathology and can interfere with the therapeutic progress.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract (sommario):
Objective: From the early 1990s there has been a growing awareness in Australia of dissociative processes and dissociative disorders. The objective in this paper is to provide a selective overview of the context and process of treatment based on the substantive dissociative disorders literature, ongoing clinical experience and research, and over 8 years as director of a trauma and dissociation unit at Belmont Hospital, Brisbane. Conclusions: The construct of individual selfhood is of direct relevance in illustrating the psychological damage sustained by patients who have relied on dissociative defences to survive, and in highlighting issues and areas that are a particular focus of informed treatment.
