For many years, the issue of parent-adolescent relationships has generated particular interest in the field of psychology research. The results of previous work have shown that parenting practices have important effects on development in adolescence. The construction of identity and self-representations is the major issue of the teenage period (Erikson, 1972; Tap, 1991). This thesis promotes the concept of relationship to parenting practices that associates with perceived practices, the relation of meaning (feelings of satisfaction / dissatisfaction, judgments, expectations…) that the subject builds about his parents’ attitudes and behaviors. The main objective of this research is to analyze the influence of the relationship to parenting practices on the development of adolescent self-representations. The study involved 542subjects in school (429 Togolese subjects aged 12 to 20 and 113 French subjects aged 12 to 16). Five self-reported tools were used to collect the data. The Instrument de Mesure des Pratiques Educatives Parentales perçues par l’Adolescent – IMPEPA (Claes et al., 2010) examined parenting educational practices based on adolescent perceptions. Two open-ended questions were asked about the wishes of the relationship with the mother on the one hand and with the father on the other. The ETES (Toulouse Scale of Self-Esteem) (Bardou et al., 2012) was used to assess self-esteem. The technique "Qui suis-je?" (- Who am I) assessed the descriptions and reflections on adolescents’ self. The results show that the parental educational practices perceived by Togolese and French subjects are rich and diverse. They report important emotional ties with their parents and sustained coaching practices. Adolescents still want stronger emotional ties with their parents. They also want more flexible parental controls. However, there are differences: Togolese teenagers report a gendered family education and perceive higher parental coercive discipline

The objective of this study is the evaluation of the impact of immigration on the development of young moroccan immigrants. For this purpose, we choose to study the immigrant self image. The image given by an individual of himself or of his environment, instruct us on his living conditions, his evolution and the characteristics he recognizes as his own. The self image is studied from a differential point of view in order to find out the variations existing between groups of young people formed according to the five selected variables. The sample comprises three hundred and two subjects in fourty five schools in the urban community of lille. The four means of investigation used enabled us to get from our subjects answers to the problem raised. The obtained results indicate that the big majority of young people describe themselves and their environment according according to criteria particular to their original culture and according to what they are more than to what-they do. In fact, they make no distinction between the roles taken by their different social partners. The majority give a valorized image of themselves and their families. They feel more integrated in their family circle than in the groups of their comrades, but think that they look like the latter more than the former. A quarter of the population is somehow pervious to french culture values which they use to define themselves and others. Their status of immigrants and their socio-economic and cultural conditions influence their behaviour and reactions. Though these young people feel obliged to take what they think necessary to their social life from french culture, this kind of adaptation and this deviation from the group of origin do not alter their basic personality; they preserve the dominant characteristics of their original culture

Two research studies are described in this thesis. The first was concerned with the self-image and the self-esteem school age children. The second examined the influence of the teacher's representation of a "good pupil" on his/her evaluation of different areas of competence in the child. The population of this research is composed of 180 children for the first study. For the second one there are 134 children and 9 teachers from an elementary school in Toulouse. We used the Perceived competence scale of children (PCSC), a structured interview, and a thematic composition with children to evaluate self-image and self-esteem. The children's scholastic achievement was determined by an unstructured interview. Teachers evaluated children's competence with a questionnaire. The results show that boys evaluate themselves more positively than girls and most particularly with regard to cognitive and physical competence. This pattern was true as much for the younger children as by the older. The responses of the children in defining their self-image also varied according to age and sex. Teachers showed a tendency to evaluate the competencies of the boys more positively. This evaluation was particularly marked with scholastic competence. Finally, our results showed that, in general, teachers are more positive about to the children of opposite sex. Masters are more negative than mistresses in their evaluation of the pupils. The results indicate that teacher evaluation plays an important part in determining the child's perception of him/herself. It is also possible that the child's level of self-esteem influences the manner of which they are perceived by teachers. This last question remains open

Literature present many and various knowledges about adolescents conducts disorders. Despite some theoricals and methodologicals differences, the author show similiraty of these results. All works underlie reality predominance on thinking processus. Author consider this results comunity like a manifestation of an unique phenomenon wich is call Concret Sens of Being. The aim of the present study was to demonstrate the hypothesis that adolescent with conduct disorder present an interpretation of self, others and physical environment using only external criteria. The self-understanding interview (Damon & Hart, 1988), the SocioMoral Questionnaire (Gibbs & al. , 1992), the Rorschach C. S. (Exener, 1995), and a conduct disorders scale have been use. Findings demonstrate that there is two groups of adolescents with CD. One group present a concret sens of being. But an other group present opposed characteristics

The goal of this dissertation was to assess the effects of drama experience at school on twelfth grade students' self-esteem and relation to knowledge. Drama practice was tapped by the characteristics of drama experience but also by the meaning and value students assign to this art activity. The sample comprised 176 twelfth grade students (33 high school-boys and 143 high school-girls), all being involved in a theatre program at school. Five data collection instruments have been employed: a questionnaire measuring their drama experience and relation to theatre, the “Echelle Toulousaine d'Estime de Soi” (Oubrayrie, de Léonardis & Safont, 1994), an assessment of their knowledge (Charlot, Bautier & Rochex, 1992), a questionnaire measuring the school experience (Prêteur, Constans & Féchant, 2004), and a scale measuring relation to learning (Capdevielle-Mougnibas, 2008). The results show that high school pupils have diverse types of relations to theatre: the meaning and value they assign to this art activity vary, among others, as a function of the academic status of the drama practice. Moreover, the sample under investigation reveal a rather positive self-esteem, the social self being particularly developed. The assessments of their knowledge indicate that students tend to give greater place both to relational and affective learning and to personal development learning. However, they less frequently mention intellectual and academic learning. As far as the drama experience is concerned, it positively influences the emotional self, whereas the relation to theatre exerts effects on the physical and creative self. The interaction between the drama experience and the relation to theatre accounts for the emotional and social self variations. Lastly, unlike the drama experience, the relation to theatre influences the students' relation to knowledge

The aim of this thesis was to examine the well-being in school and after-school context to grasp some determinants. Were specifically studied the relationship between attachment to parents, peer acceptance, student-teacher relationship in link with academic motivation and well-being in preadolescence. Three cross-sectional studies were conducted with 272 pupils in primary and high school. The children informed self-questionnaires. The first study showed that social acceptance is a mediator in the relationship between quality of attachment to the mother and social self-esteem in sixth grade. The second study revealed a moderating effect of quality of attachment to the relationship between the student-teacher relationship and academic motivation in French, and a moderating effect of attachment to the father and the teacher-student relationship on French academic motivation. The third study developed and validated a self-administered questionnaire of after-school well-being. We arrived at a valid, reliable and sensitive assessment tool, which has three dimensions: trust/security, peer relationships and the interest to the after-school context. The results of these three studies confirmed those of the international literature and emphasized the importance of considering the psycho-emotional development of children in different life contexts (Bronfenbrenner, 1986)

Due both to their parents'origin and their actual presence in the french society wherein they have grown and are still living, the adolescents born of immigrated moroccan families have to cope with unquestionable identity conflicts. Starting from this, our thesis aims at the analysis of these problems examined under their various peculiar aspects: - in a first part, assuming the hypothesis that these subjects are utterly unable to present a true image of themselves nor a coherent and distinct one of other people, we have devoted our efforts to define the modalities of the ways they perceive their own self. - then, we have tried to analyse the relations they keep up with their closest immigrated friends, these latter included in the meaning of the word "we". -finally, taking into account their characteristic ambiguous relationships with their equals, french as well as moroccan, we have taken a special interest in the way they identify themselves to both

The objective of this study is to apprehend the self-image of Lebanese youth of both sexes. Our point of view is psychosocial, implementing a clinical and a therapeutic standpoint of what can be termed "maladjustment" in present-day Lebanon. The psychosocial part of our research uses Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Scale, based on the subscales of general, family, professional and social self-esteem. The tool implemented for the clinical part is the Eysenck Personality Inventory (E. P. I. ). The data were collected in Lebanon in the context of five trips made between 2008 and 2011, interviewing 252 subjects for the psychosocial enquiry and 30 other subjects for the clinical approach. These young people are between 21 and 28 years of age and live in various geographical areas of the country. The regions were chosen for their political "color", in order to consider the weight of the variable "Political Ideology Belonging" on self-esteem and also to observe the effect of the "Urban" or "Rural" variable. Furthermore, the incidence of the variables gender, religious practice and social group belonging were studied. The scores, divergent and low overall, evidence that the subjects present inappropriate management of their self-image. The interpretation of the results displays the predominance of a false self and a paradoxical social identity. Regarding this aspect, the data we collected point out the weight of the profound cultural causes, namely principles, beliefs and customs. Thus, we interpret the distortions in human intergroup cohesion as being constitutional elements of present-day Lebanon. In this thesis light is cast on the adjustment mode used by the Lebanese youth under cultural, moral and social pressures. Our conclusions and in particular the high level of defense seen in self-evaluation — as evidenced by the "Lie" subscale — lead us to consider the place of the mother in the integration of social rules by these young people in their self construction. In this respect, we lay emphasis here on the role of the mother in general, and then in the discussion, we study the role of the Lebanese mother in the mental construction of the young subjects

The object of this work of thesis is a reflection on the way the subject can build itself in the adolescence, with its disease. I leave the postulate that about is the somatic chronic disease, mechanisms would be common to all the teenagers confronted with this disease " since always there ". My research work leans on seven teenagers hospitalized in our unity care-studies. The process of subjectivation for these teenagers implies to compose with a " work of the disease ". A possible work of subjectivation of the parents as " parents of a sick child " can allow them not to find itself in dead end in their search for identity. It is a question for these teenagers of regaining control the history of their disease to provide subject future. After the burglary aroused by the disease arrives the puberty, one moment of physical changes which does not save the teenagers affected by a chronic disease, in spite of the fantasy of some patients in this connection. The sick body becomes a pubescent body with the disease and with the juvenile reorganizations. It seems necessary that a feeling of envelope " good enough " was able to establish during the childhood, to allow the teenager not to feel too much not secure. I meet the teenagers in a particular context: they are hospitalized for care, but also for their studies, and are thus separated from their family. The teenager makes a commitment from then on in an initiative of care, first step towards a demand of reflection to arrest better his disease and understand how to build itself with her. Our work of accompaniment also supports them thus in the process of subjectivation, by committing for certain teenagers a real subjective reintegration

THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE CLINICAL APPROACH TO WORK AS APPLIED TO THE ANALYSIS OF THE CEO’S “SELF-PRESENTATION” The purpose of this research is to explore what it is that, in the cross between CEO subjectivity and his work, allows to better understand behaviors that are often considered irrational. Following a critical review of the literature of organizational behavior and psycho-sociology that deals with the CEO, as well as of the management literature relating to his activity, the field of work-psychodynamics establishes itself as the theoretical reference for this research, despite never actually having penetrated the field of top management. With its grounding in an understanding of management as well as in concepts drawn from the field of work-psychodynamics, this research proposes a clinical approach to the work of the CEO, in other words a clinical study of the gap between prescribed work and actual work. As a source of knowledge of the prescribed tasks of the CEO, management literature tends to point to “self-presentation” as one aspect of that work. Consequently, the scope of this research focuses on the analysis of this “self-presentation”, whose triple dimension is revealed in interviews conducted with fifteen male and female CEOs: firstly, a means of expressive action and a way of coping with the constraints of prescribed mastery, secondly, a means of achieving recognition and finally, a strategy of defense against suffering at work, thus revealing the subjective rationality of their behaviors. We then discuss the theoretical and methodological implications on work-psychodynamics, the contribution to management science, as well as implications on managerial ethics, thereby opening the way to defining a methodology of intervention for this specific population

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is one of the most common psychological disorders of adolescence. Epidemiological studies show rates of 6% in the general adult population. GAD along with the tendency for excessive worrying appears early on in development. According to Gosselin (1998), 18%-25% of adolescents report excessive and uncontrolled worrying. The consequences can be serious for these adolescents who suffer from significant psychological distress (Silverman et al, 1995; Albane and Hack, 2004). This includes social functioning, interpersonal relationships, along with greater vulnerability for substance abuse. The work undertaken for this thesis is comprised of two studies within adolescent samples. The first study, an epidemiological study on 751 adolescents, employed questionnaires to fully understand the manifestation of anxiety in this group. Four questionnaires were presented and completed by this sample: The Penn State Questionnaire (PSQ – measuring the manifestation and extent of GAD); Intolerance for Uncertainty (IU); Unconditional self acceptance (USA); and rational and irrational beliefs about failure. Data regarding life events, substance abuse, family composition, etc. , was also collected using an experimenter-designed questionnaire. The variables from each questionnaire along with data regarding the adolescents' lives were analyzed and compared through the use of non-parametric comparisons as well as correlations. Results showed in this first quantitative study that there was an overall GAD manifestation of 22. 6%, with a majority of the group being female. Correlations between the different questionnaires and their subscales showed significant and notable results. Regression analyses showed significant results for gender, past difficult life events, worries, intolerance for uncertainty, USA, and tobacco and cannabis consumption. Moreover, students suffering from anxiety showed indicated less overall satisfaction in several life domains, along with the experience of more recent negative life events as well as current concerns in their lives. Although a relationship between GAD and substance abuse was not noted, the endorsement of irrational beliefs regarding failure appeared to be highly related to the use of psychoactive substances. The second study presented the organization and implementation of a clinical pilot study with 12 adolescents who manifested criteria for GAD using both the PSQ and semi-directed clinical interviews. Nine of the 12 adolescents evaluated were able to complete an experimental therapeutic protocol employing a series of cognitive behavioral therapeutic (CBT) strategies inspired from the ‘third wave' of CBT (e. G. , positive psychology, mindfulness, DBT, etc). The therapy relied heavily on use of metaphors and mindfulness exercises. Discourse from semi-directed interviews both before and after therapy was analyzed using ALCESTE along with a comparison of PSQ scores before and after therapy. Pre-therapy interviews showed three major and pertinent classes of discourse related to GAD; post-therapy interviews showed some effects of therapy on discourse through the ability to take action. The results of the these two studies show that not only are adolescents particularly vulnerable to suffering from anxiety and the related psychiatric disorders, but that several pertinent psychological variables are related to the manifestation of these disorders. Treatment for this population is promising using a CBT model employing modern techniques and focused interventions

Context: health risk behaviours, for instance drug use, are often initiated during the adolescence period. Thus, the behaviour’s determining factors have to be known to realize preventative actions among these young people. Aim: to analyze the relationship between three protective and/or risk factors (self-esteem, trait-anxiety and extra-curricular physical activity - ECPA), and drug use by early-adolescents, through the interactionist health model. Study design: A cohort of 1 230 voluntary pupils, followed for a period of four years. Data were collected every six months by self-report questionnaires. The document included questions on health, ECPA, self-esteem, trait-anxiety, and drug use (tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, anxiolytics, hypnotics, vitamins). Main results: nearly 40 % of the pupils practice regularly ECPA. Between 11 and 14 year of age, the prevalence of regular use of cannabis was multiplied by 34, and that of tobacco by 9. High protective factors and low risk factors are related to less drug use. Girls tend to have protective and risk factors more prone to variation than boys, in the event of consumption of tobacco, anxiolytic or hypnotic drugs, or vitamins, substances preferentially consumed by girls. Conclusion: this work confirms the need to develop, in children, psychosocial competences so that they can adopt favourable health behaviors

This research studies the impact of a sensory deficiency (auditory or visual) from birth or very precociously on different psychological variables to know the esteem of oneself, the feeling of integration, the stress, the strategies of coping and the orientation of oneself. Our results indicate that the sensory deficient teenagers present a social emotional self and an esteem of themselves weaker than their peers witnesses. Otherwise, the sensory deficient teenagers feel less integrated with the peers and globally that their peers witnesses. However, the teenagers witnesses feel more physical unrests and psychic of stress facing a difficult situation. Thus, the sensory deficient teenagers control more often than the witness group, the situations judged menacing for their psychological well-being. The results finally indicate that the teenagers whoever they are elaborate some projects as well as in their life than professionally

This research study self representations among children from 9 to 12 in relation to socioprofessional class, cultural origin (from the maghreb or french), school adaptation, gender and separation of the parents. The hypothesis come from several domains : social, differential or developmental psychology but also from the role of self-esteem in cognitive therapies of depression as well as from sociological studies of suicide. Self representations are regarded as social representations, at the juncture of social and psychological fields. The methodology consisted of assessing responses to 688 questionnaires, essentially self evaluations. Concerning the social and cultural categories, it has been found that self-esteem reproduces the social hierarchy with the exception of children of workers from the maghreb who enjoy a higher level of self-esteem than all the others. Self diagnosed anxiety is above average among children of blue collar workers in general, especially among children from the maghreb in separated housing. The school level influences self-esteem only for certain social or cultural categories : it is a determining factor among children of french workers for instance but without any effect among children from upper classes. Concerning the separation of parents, self-esteem is lower among children of separated parents, boys or girls, but boys react particularly through trouble in school and behavioral disruption whereas girls indicate a declared anxiety most important. In a general way, boys declare an anxiety level very lower than girls. On that subject the notion of male alexithymia has been developed and extended to adults. Self-esteem in childhood is finally regarded as a measurement of + family integration ;, an idea wich is borrowed from durkheim's theory of suicide

Research interest is high in adolescents’ self-expression online, digital culture and the use of Social Network sites and instant messaging. Practicing self-expression online provokes a girls’ infatuation. Based on developmental and interactionist approaches, the aim of this study is to analyze on the one hand, the meaning of teenage girls’ self-expression and self-disclosure online, and on the other hand, attempt to understand how topics of adolescence like identity development, self-concepts and self-expression online can be linked at the heart of the horizontal socialization. Our sample included 47 teenage girls, aged between 11 to 15 years. All of them are using Internet, Social Network Sites and instant messaging. Five tools were used to collect the data: a questionnaire regarding the uses of Internet, an open-ended question « Who Am I? » (Rodriguez-Tomé & Bariaud, 1980), the Self-Consciousness Revised Scale (Pelletier & Vallerand, 1990), the Toulouse Scale of Self-Esteem (Oubrayrie, De Léonardis, Safont, 1994), and the Groningen Identity Developmental Scale including a semi structured interview (Bosma, 1985, 1994; Lannegrand-Willems, 2008). According to our results, self-expression responds to three interrelated needs of teenage girls: 1/ to maintain contact with peers and to observe theirs practices; 2/ to obtain the approval of peers through online personal publications; 3/ to write their history for themselves. Girls which have high levels of social and public self-concepts are regularly practicing self-expression online (59.6%). Publication contents are focused on themselves. These girls want peer comments and approval, and write a part of their personal story for themselves. High levels of self-esteem and identity commitment are related to peer positive reactions on publications. Topics of identity development and self-concepts are closely related with self-expression online and peer relationships. Our analysis underlines an intersubjective balance between self and other. This research is exploratory in nature because of the lack of French studies in this area, and the limited sample. Nevertheless, it provides longitudinal and comparative promising perspectives

Mentioning adolescence will often evoke negative representations. Indeed, crises, violence, marginal behaviours, denial of authority are always associated with this period of life. Teenagers build up their (new) identity as they mourn their childhood. Nevertheless, they are not all having borderline behaviours. In order to get out of this in-betweenness, they are not all seeking themselves in a deviant or delinquent way. In fact, they all certainly want to feel and to prove to themselves that life is worth living. And because humanity is above all a matter of body, lots of them seek themselves using their senses and feelings. Some of them may do it through risky activities (margin), such as dangerous driving or drug abuse. Yet, others find enough feelings in more conventional activities (center), among which sport has a prominent place. In the margins as well as in the center, the aim is the same: consciously and collectively hurting the body to become oneself. This thesis reports how running, especially through trainings, can be one of the spaces where teenagers experience pain. This way, they build up their identity. The results of this PHD bring to the fore these individuals who are using sports pain to live a smooth transition from adolescence to adulthood

Title: Personal values, picture of one and representation of the father at teenagers of Kisangani.
Doctoral dissertation presented in view of a doctoral degree in psychology.
By :Louis Muamba Ngalula
Summary :
The present survey tried to examine the relation between the personal values, the self-concept and the representation of the father by some teenagers of an African city :Kisangani in DRC.
217 male participants, schooled and aged between 15 and 18, composed the research sample. They have been administered two different questionnaires. The first questionnaire examined the personal value in his/her/its first part and in his/her/its second parts it offered indications of he self-concept. The second questionnaire permitted to succinctly examine the relationship between parents and children. A small group of 17 subjects has provides live narratives that have permitted to control the experience of father-son relationships.
The results show that these teenagers devote a greater importance to extracurricular values, the self-concept takes on the other hand in account the school value system and that the father is perceived on the whole like an authoritative, stern and disciplinary character in the family.
These teenagers ask that his image and his role be reviewed in order to fit their expectations. They make the mother's character appear like a shelter and rampart in home life for several reasons that include the adolescent crisis and current life in a city where an economy of misery and hunger dominate. In so doing, this study shows that the emergence of parentality as a direct consequence of the traditional social ties through their destruction by the modification of schedules in urban households.
In spite of the big commonalities of viewpoints, the system of values presents some nuances, as function of the social origin and the educational experience mentioned by participants. The self-concept essentially depends on the value system claimed by the subjects. The representation of the father is dependent on the prevailing value system, which both depend on the role played by the mother in daily home life.

Depracatory self-representation and socialisation difficulties among adolescents living in institutions that supplement the family. In this study, the self-representation and behaviour patterns "self-revealed" of 50 boys and 52 girls who have been "placed" in institutions because of family disunion or parental failure (incapacity) are compared with those of 50 boys and 52 girls living in their families of birth. The subjects are 14-18 years-of-age and of "average intellige nce". The study reveals some important aspects of the self-image and behavioural reactions, the influence of the context in terms of situation and experience on the process of creating one's self-representation and the socialisation mechani sms. The effects which young people attribute to indications about self from other people who are significant to their e nvironment show the impact of inter-personal relations on the definition of self in relation to self and the other during adolescence. The results obtained by factor analysis of the relations show that those living in their own familie s have greater self-esteem than that found in the self-descriptions provided by those living in institutions. At the same time, the scores obtained by the institutionalised subjects in the jesness inventory bring out recognised difficulties on the psycho-social, psycho-emotional and psycho-relational levels

The objective of this thesis is to determine effects of pubertal development and societal standards of beauty on preadolescents and adolescents’ body esteem. Therefore, we tried to clarify body esteem concept, in order to work on its multidimensional aspect. Then, we studied the evolution of body esteem’s dimensions with age and gender of subjects. Finally, we attempted to identify the contribution of pubertal development and internalization of media ideals in adolescents’ body esteem. Self-rating oriented questionnaires have been submitted to 963 pre-adolescents and adolescents, aged 9 to 19, in several French schools. Results show that body esteem and internalization of societal beauty standards are changing with age and pubertal maturation level and timing. Through puberty maturation process, girls and boys showed less satisfaction with their physical appearance. During this phase, their level of beauty standards internalization increased. Moreover, we noticed an effect of pubertal timing on body esteem and media models internalization. Gender and age effects on these two variables have been also underlined. Lastly, models internalization has been revealed as the main contributing factor in body esteem prediction. Pubertal variables and BMI are also involved. Appearance culture prevalence and adolescents’ prevention perspectives have been discussed

Based on the Psychological Disengagement Model (PDM) (e.g., Martinot et al., 2020; Tougas et al., 2005, 2010; Tougas & Beaton, 2008), the present research program examines the consequences of a context of relative deprivation on psychological disengagement (discounting of academic grades and devaluing of school), different dimensions of school engagement, and self-esteem among adolescents. Our main hypothesis is that students experiencing relative deprivation (egoistic, personal, or fraternalistic), due to unfavorable teacher behavior (studies 1 and 4), belonging to a disadvantaged social background (study 2), or social rejection by peers (Study 3), should disengage more psychologically and academically than students not experiencing such deprivation. This should in turn should be detrimental to their self-esteem. Study 1 shows that an imagined experience of relative deprivation in conjunction with unfavorable teacher behavior can lead to devaluing of school. Study 2 shows that an experience of relative deprivation related to belonging to a disadvantaged social background leads to disengagement from school via a decrease in perceived control. Disengagement from school, in turn, negatively affects adolescents' self-esteem. Study 3 shows the experience of relative deprivation in conjunction with social rejection by peers leads to academic disengagement via a decreased sense of social affiliation. Disengagement from school, in turn, negatively affects adolescents' self-esteem. Finally, Study 4 shows that an experience of relative deprivation in conjunction with unfavorable teacher behavior leads to school disengagement via a decrease in perceived social support from peers. Disengagement from school, in turn, negatively affects adolescents' self-esteem. Through these 4 studies, we were also able to highlight that not all experiences of relative deprivation have the same deleterious effects. It is the experiences of egoistic and personal relative deprivation that lead to more disengagement and lower self-esteem compared to an experience of fraternalistic relative deprivation. Finally, an imagined experience of equality among all students is the situation that most protects students from academic disengagement as well as their self-esteem. Overall, our results open up interesting avenues for reflection on the advantages that belonging to a group can provide, even if the group is disadvantaged, and in particular the benefical presence of peers when students are faced with a context of relative deprivation. The same can be said for the benefits of an egalitarian context at school

Even though it is now commonly acknowldged that a set of destabilising and protecting factors are at play in the appearance of alcohol and cannabis dependence in adolescents, there is as of yet little knowledge of how these factors actually interact. Amongst the latter, certain personality traits, self-esteem and interpersonal difficulties are considered key. The theoretical introduction to our work aims at underlining the importance of the theory of the Big Five (Goldberg, 1993; John & Srivastava, 1999) in this field, this model being currently considered a rigorous taxonomy that gathers a large consensus in the field of personality psychology (McAdams & Pals, 2006). In the introduction as well, we stress the relevance of a multi-dimensional conception of self-esteem, so as to frame it as part of a wider approach. Finally, we establish different areas related to interpersonal difficulties in adolescents, such as self-assertion, family relations, relations with peers, love relationships and friendship

This research is about the influence of educative practices of parents and teachers on the moral development of children and teenagers of Ivory Coast. These children (120), teenagers (100) and delinquents (50) have been put through four tests, especially the test of resistance to temptation and stories with moral dilemmas. About educative practices, we have come to these following results: rigidity is the characteristic of families with a low sociocultural status, flexibility these of high status families. The middle status families are inclined to flexibility. Laisser faire does not seem to characterize families of Ivory Coast. This line between rigidity and flexibility takes age and sex into account. The values' orientation is traditionalistic for parents building up their surroundings rigidly, but modernist for the others. Concerning the supple, contextual, altruistic moral orientation, that is the characteristic of teenagers from flexibly structures classes, girls and non-delinquents. The correlation between marks of behaviour in school and civic and moral instruction was confirmed very low. About social class of Ivory Coast, it is morally corrupt, what is bound to influence moral development. Lastly, the self-esteem is higher among the youngest and teenagers who have not undergo the effects of stigmatization through scholastic checks and dissocial career, but who also feel themselves respected and admitted in their surroundings

The Burkina Faso faces the recurrence of poor academic performance, which is a serious threat to economic and social development. The explanations we give to this observation involve economic factors, political, social, educational, geographical. Very little attention is paid to psychology. But scholarly research is sufficiently instructive today on the seminal role of psychological factor in shaping human behavior in general, in the school conducted in a specific way. Among the psychological factors whose role is emphasized in the literature, there is the self-esteem and locus of control. This research will examine the links between these psychological variables and performance among learners in the beginning and the end of adolescence, in the socio-economic-cultural context of Burkina Faso. Using questionnaires of self-esteem and locus of control questionnaires, we conducted a series of three studies on a sample of six hundred and eighty six male and female students of CM2 and third. School performance was measured from notes in class Assessment situation and in a situation of independent evaluation. Data collected and analyzed highlight links, overall, modest between self-esteem and school performance between locus of control and academic performance throughout the three studies

Between here and elsewhere, between practices and disciplines, between patients, surgeons and psychiste, this thesis is the effect of meetings with children with orthopedic trauma suffered. Burglary, the fracture is orthopeadic trauma and made trauma. Desubjectivation, fragmentation of the body, violence, pain and suffering are then the lot of children in pediatric surgery. And when the end prevails over all the body, the body becomes other-I. From Abidjan to Paris, four clinical histories of children show that, amid terror and loss of the look, the face-losing is at work in pediatric surgery regardless of the quality or type of care. In these children, self-representation and subjective testing of three drawings helped to understand the disturbances in self-image and suffering taking’s face and other issues involved. It appeared that the repair is not always followed by restoration. Therapeutic and relational mediator, drawing has proven tool visage-ification of burglary and psycho revisage-ification its mirror function. In the time of care, then replays the mirror stage. The underpinning of mothering look and psychiste, in the process, promote rebuilding of the child's self whose effect is to give it a unified picture of him promoting a reappropriation of the body. Thus emerges a new function of psychiste in pediatric surgery, that of "psy-chir" to describe the terms of a particular psychotherapeutic assistance in support of the design and visage-ification, to heal the body

The aim of this thesis is to investigate the neural basis of self-representation in the non human primate. We studied the multimodal convergence both 1) at the area level precisely mapping auditory, tactile and visual convergence in the intraparietal sulcus and 2) at the whole brain level capturing the spatial pattern of visuo-tactile cortical convergence. We also investigated the neural network subserving multisensory integration in a dynamical visuo tactile context, showing that the strongest behavioral and cortical are obtained when the visual stimuli is predictive of the tactile stimulus rather than during simultaneous presentations. Finally, we studied the representation of space by characterizing the neural bases of near space and far space in a real naturalistic environment, thus providing the neural grounds for the observed behavioral and neuropsychological dissociation between near and far space processing
