Abstract (sommario):
Regenerative braking systems are an efficient way to increase the energy efficiency of electric rail vehicles. During the development phase, testing of a regenerative braking system in an electric vehicle is costly and potentially dangerous. For this reason, Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulation is a useful technique to conduct the system’s testing in real time where the physical parts of the system are replaced by simulation models. This paper presents a HIL simulation of a tram regenerative braking system performed on a scaled model. First, offline simulations are performed using a measured speed profile in order to validate the tram, supercapacitor, and power grid model, as well as the energy control algorithm. The results are then verified in the real-time HIL simulation in which the tram and power grid are emulated using a three-phase converter and LiFePO4 batteries. The energy flow control algorithm controls a three-phase converter which enables the control of energy flow within the regenerative braking system. The results validate the simulated regenerative braking system, making it applicable for implementation in a tram vehicle.

Abstract (sommario):
The design of modern industrial products is further improved through the hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation. Realistic simulation is enabled by the closed loop between the hardware under test (HUT) and real-time simulation. Such a system involves a field programmable gate array (FPGA) and digital signal processor (DSP). An HIL model can bypass serious damage to the real object, reduce debugging cost, and, finally, reduce the comprehensive effort during the testing. This paper provides a historical overview of HIL simulations through different engineering challenges, i.e., within automotive, power electronics systems, and different industrial drives. Various platforms, such as National Instruments, dSPACE, Typhoon HIL, or MATLAB Simulink Real-Time toolboxes and Speedgoat hardware systems, offer a powerful tool for efficient and successful investigations in different fields. Therefore, HIL simulation practice must begin already during the university’s education process to prepare the students for professional engagements in the industry, which was also verified experimentally at the end of the paper.

Abstract (sommario):
Abstract Hardware in the Loop (HIL) semi-physical real-time simulation can shorten the research period and complete the harsh working condition test, which is difficult to be carried out on the physical platform. Taking the off-grid Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) wind power system as the research object, this paper proposes the bottom modelling method of HIL real-time simulation. Using the Hardware Description Language VERILOG, the bottom real-time models of DFIG, converter and load are designed on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), connected with the real controller, and the HIL real-time simulation platform is constructed. The experiments of conventional working conditions and unbalance load are carried out on the HIL platform and the physical platform. The operation speed of the HIL platform reaches 0.48μs. Compared with the physical platform, the error of HIL platform is between 1.17 ~ 3.29% under various working conditions.

Abstract (sommario):
Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) is a common technique used for testing in power electronics. It draws upon FPGAs (field-programmable gate arrays) because they allow for reaching real-time simulation for mid-high switching frequencies. FPGA area and delay are keys to reaching a compromise between performance and accuracy. To minimize area and delay, signal word length (WL) is critical. Furthermore, the input and output’s WL should be carefully chosen because these signals come from ADCs (analog-to-digital converters) or go to DACs (digital-to-analog converters). In other words, the role of ADCs and DACs is the boundary condition when assigning all the signal WLs in an HIL model. This research presents an automatic method for computing the signal WLs in the corresponding model by considering input/output boundary conditions. This automatic method needs a single simulation to decide both the integer and fractional width of every signal. Our method accelerates the process, showing an advantage over manual methods and those requiring multiple simulations. The proposed method is applied to create all the WL assignments to the signals involved in a fixed-point coded buck converter model, which shows its feasibility.

Abstract (sommario):
Nowadays, the use of the hardware in the loop (HIL) simulation has gained popularity among researchers all over the world. One of its main applications is the simulation of power electronics converters. However, the equipment designed for this purpose is difficult to acquire for some universities or research centers, so ad-hoc solutions for the implementation of HIL simulation in low-cost hardware for power electronics converters is a novel research topic. However, the information regarding implementation is written at a high technical level and in a specific language that is not easy for non-expert users to understand. In this paper, a systematic methodology using LabVIEW software (LabVIEW 2018) for HIL simulation is shown. A fast and easy implementation of power converter topologies is obtained by means of the differential equations that define each state of the power converter. Five simple steps are considered: designing the converter, modeling the converter, solving the model using a numerical method, programming an off-line simulation of the model using fixed-point representation, and implementing the solution of the model in a Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). This methodology is intended for people with no experience in the use of languages as Very High-Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) for Real-Time Simulation (RTS) and HIL simulation. In order to prove the methodology’s effectiveness and easiness, two converters were simulated—a buck converter and a three-phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI)—and compared with the simulation of commercial software (PSIM® v9.0) and a real power converter.

Abstract (sommario):
Power electronics medium-voltage (MV) systems must comply with the requirements defined in grid codes. These systems’ compatibility with the standards can be validated by specialized testing equipment: grid simulators. This paper presents a hardware in the loop (HiL) implementation and the simulation results of a MV multiphase DC/DC converter designed for MV DC grid emulation. By using ABB’s reliable, patented power converter hardware topology (US 10978948 B2) and by applying advanced control algorithms, the presented system can be used for special purposes, such as the emulation of fault events in a DC-grid used for the certification of other devices, or for other research goals. The presented concept of a power electronics DC-grid simulator (PEGS-DC) is characterized by high power capability and high voltage quality. In this paper, the general idea of a power electronics grid simulator applied for the testing of MV electrical systems is discussed. Then, details related to the PEGS-DC, such as its hardware topology and the applied modulation method are presented. Subsequently, the HiL setup is described. The main scope of this article focuses on model the description and presenting recorded HiL simulations.

Abstract (sommario):
Hardware in the Loop (HIL) systems is widely used for testing vehicle controllers in automotive industry. But algorithms for simulation of the vehicle dynamics have to consider the special restrictions for HIL that is a fixed simulation time constant. Due to limitations of computing power the step size often is set to 1ms. Especially for calculation of the wheel slip this will cause a problem when speed starts from zero. Thats why a lot of authors propose a small vehicle speed at the beginning of the simulation. For evaluation of anti slip controllers in HIL systems this is not possible because stand still is the general starting point for the anti slip controller. Different ideas exist in literature to solve this problem but none of them consider the HIL restriction in an overall approach. In this paper a new algorithm for slip calculation is presented. Therefore two different approaches will be analyzed and combined to a new algorithm. Simulation results show the feasibility for HIL systems.

Abstract (sommario):
Simulating complex systems in real time presents both significant advantages and challenges. Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation has emerged as an interesting technique for addressing these challenges. While HIL has gained attention in the scientific literature, its application in energy studies and power systems remains scattered and challenging to locate. This paper aims to provide an assessment of the penetration of the HIL technique in energy studies and power systems. The analysis of the literature reveals that HIL is predominantly employed in evaluating electrical systems (smart grids, microgrids, wind systems), with limited application in thermal energy systems (energy storage). Notably, the combination of electrical hardware-in-the-loop (EHIL) and thermal hardware-in-the-loop (THIL) techniques has found application in the assessment of vehicle thermal management systems and smart cities and, recently, has also been adopted in building systems. The findings highlight the potential for further exploration and expansion of the HIL technique in diverse energy domains, emphasizing the need for addressing challenges such as hardware–software compatibility, real-time data acquisition, and system complexity.

Abstract (sommario):
In view of the aggravation of global pollution and greenhouse effects, fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) have attracted increasing attention, owing to their ability to release zero emissions. Extended-range fuel cell vehicles (E-RFCEVs) are the most widely used type of fuel cell vehicles. The powertrain system of E-RFCEV is relatively complex. Bond graph theory was used to model the important parts of the E-RFCEV powertrain system: Battery, motor, fuel cell, DC/DC, vehicle, and driver. In order to verify the control effect of energy management strategy (EMS) in a real-time state, bond graph theory was applied to hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) development. An HiL simulation test-bed based on the bond graph model was built, and the HiL simulation verification of the energy management strategy was completed. Based on the comparison to a power-following EMS, it was found that fuzzy logic EMS is more adaptive to vehicle driving conditions. This study aimed to apply bond graph theory to HiL simulations to verify that bond graph modeling is applicable to complex systems.

Abstract (sommario):
Power-HIL simulation is one of the emerging areas in power electronics development nowadays. It offers a convenient test environment for the whole power electronics hardware but eliminates the necessity of motor test benches and rotating machines. Selecting a suitable power amplifier for the simulator is however a challenging task. Switching power supplies can be an interesting option as Power Amplifier, but they have to offer superior power capability and dynamic performance over the DUT (Device Under Test), while maintaining high enough switching frequency to meet the dynamic requirements as well. Using commercially available inverters as Power Amplifiers would be an attractive option, if they can achieve the desired emulation accuracy. This paper investigates the possibility of using a common 3-level inverter with an L-C-L coupling network as a Power Amplifier for a P-HIL simulator, to emulate a PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine) machine.

Abstract (sommario):
In the development cycles of the power electronics converters, the real-time simulation plays an essential role in validating the converters’ and the controllers’ performances before their implementations on real systems. It can simulate and reproduce the current and voltage waveforms of the modeled power electronics converters accurately with a simulation time-step exactly corresponding to the physical time. The power electronics circuits are characterized by nonlinear switching behaviors. Therefore, the representations of switching devices are crucial in real-time simulation. The system-level model is widely used in both commercial real-time simulators and the experimentally built real-time platforms, which models the switching behaviors by two separate steady states – turn-on and turn-off, and neglects all the switching transients. In recent years, the device-level real-time simulation has become popular since it can simulate the transient switching waveforms and provide useful information with regard to the device stresses, the power losses, the parasitic effects, and electro-thermal behaviors. Nevertheless, the device-level real-time simulation is constrained by the achievable transient time-step due to the increased computational amounts introduced by the nonlinearity of the switch model. In order to integrate the device-level model in the real-time simulation, in this thesis, the device-level real-time modeling and simulation techniques of the power electronics converters are deeply explored. The state-of-art real-time simulation techniques are firstly reviewed comprehensively with regard to both system-level and device-level. Moreover, two device-level modeling approaches are proposed, including high- resolution quasi-transient model (HRQT) and the piecewise linear transient (PLT) model. In HRQT model, the network model can be implemented by system-level simulation while generating the transient switching waveforms with a 5 ns resolution, which is good at simulating the power converter with fast switching transients down to tens of nanoseconds. Considering the effects of the transient behaviors on the entire network, the PLT model is proposed by piecewise linearizing the nonlinear IGBT and diode equivalent models. With the help of effective circuit decoupling techniques, the device-level power converter model can be simulated stably with a 50 ns global simulation time-step. The proposed two models are tested and validated via different case studies on National Instruments (NI) FPGA-based real-time platform, including floating interleaved boost converter (FIBC) for HRQT model, DC-DC-AC converter for PLT model, and modular multi-level converter (MMC) for the both. Accurate results are produced compared to offline simulation tools. The effectiveness and the application values are further verified by the results of the real-time experiments

Abstract (sommario):
This thesis introduces an alternative potentially low cost solution for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation based on the waveform relaxation (WR) method. The WR tech-nique is extended so that, without the need for a real-time simulator, the behaviour of an actual piece of physical hardware can nevertheless be tested as though it were connected to a large external electrical network. This is achieved by simulating the external network on an off-line electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation program, and utilizing iterative exchange of waveforms between the simulation and the hardware by means of a spe-cialized Real-Time Player/Recorder (RTPR) interface device. The approach is referred to as waveform relaxation based hardware-in-the-loop (WR-HIL) simulation. To make the method possible, the thesis introduces several new innovations for stabi-lizing and accelerating the WR-HIL algorithm. It is shown that the classical WR shows poor or no convergence when at least one of the subsystems is an actual device. The noise and analog-digital converters’ quantization errors and other hardware disturbances can affect the waveforms and cause the WR to diverge. Therefore, the application of the WR method in performing HIL simulation is not straightforward and the classical WR need to be modified accordingly. Three convergence techniques are proposed to improve the WR-HIL simulation con-vergence. Each technique is evaluated by an experimental example. The stability of the WR-HIL simulation is studied and a stabilization technique is proposed to provide suffi-cient conditions for the simulation stability. The approach is also extended to include the optimization of the parameters of power system controllers located in geographically distant places. The WR-HIL simulation technique is presented with several examples. At the end of the thesis, suggestions for the future work are presented.

Abstract (sommario):
Vehicle electrification plays a crucial role in the fight against climate change. In response to the increasingly pronounced growth of electrified vehicles in the global automotive market, new technologies have emerged to meet the demand. Hardware-in-the-Loop simulations, such as Signal (S-HIL) and Power (P-HIL), are already used in the automotive industry to test various components and next-generation subsystems before their integration into the final prototype, but their potential remains underutilized. To promote their use and enhance the speed of development, new and affordable methods need to be implemented. The objective of this thesis is to propose a flexible method for testing various electrical subsystems, ranging from traditional HIL simulations to Driver-in-the-Loop simulation (DIL). The concept of distributed HIL simulation is based on the use of a remote server. The remote server corresponds to a virtual computer located in a data center equipped with the Amesim Simcenter simulation software. The software provides access to an online library of models, allowing the user to couple their models or locally located subsystems with Amesim Simcenter to perform pure simulations, S-HIL, or P-HIL. A simple and flexible interface has been established through the organization of models using the Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR) formalism. Distributed HIL simulation was carried out as part of the H2020 PANDA Project to improve the integration of electrified vehicles into the automotive market. The second focus is to implement a DIL simulation coupled simultaneously with a P-HIL simulation while retaining the flexibility of using models in a real-time simulation platform. This approach enables the testing of a power subsystem while incorporating a driver through a driving simulator (DIL/P-HIL)

Abstract (sommario):
Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) systems (also known as Active Chassis systems) are mechatronic systems developed for improving vehicle comfort, handling and/or stability. Traditionally, most of these systems have been individually developed and manufactured by various suppliers and utilised by automotive manufacturers. These decentralised control systems usually improve one aspect of vehicle performance and in some cases even worsen some other features of the vehicle. Although the benefit of the stand-alone VDC systems has been proven, however, by increasing the number of the active systems in vehicles, the importance of controlling them in a coordinated and integrated manner to reduce the system complexity, eliminate the possible conflicts as well as expand the system operational envelope, has become predominant. The subject of Integrated Vehicle Dynamics Control (IVDC) for improving the overall vehicle performance in the existence of several VDC active systems has recently become the topic of many research and development activities in both academia and industries Several approaches have been proposed for integration of vehicle control systems, which range from the simple and obvious solution of networking the sensors, actuators and processors signals through different protocols like CAN or FlexRay, to some sort of complicated multi-layered, multi-variable control architectures. In fact, development of an integrated control system is a challenging multidisciplinary task and should be able to reduce the complexity, increase the flexibility and improve the overall performance of the vehicle. The aim of this thesis is to develop a low-cost control scheme for integration of Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) system with Enhanced Stability Program (ESP) system to improve driver comfort as well as vehicle safety. In this dissertation, a systematic approach toward a modular, flexible and reconfigurable control architecture for integrated vehicle dynamics control systems is proposed which can be implemented in real time environment with low computational cost. The proposed control architecture, so named “Integrated Vehicle Control System (IVCS)”, is customised for integration of EPAS and ESP control systems. IVCS architecture consists of three cascade control loops, including high-level vehicle control, low-level (steering torque and brake slip) control and smart actuator (EPAS and EHB) control systems. The controllers are designed based on Youla parameterisation (closed-loop shaping) method. A fast, adaptive and reconfigurable control allocation scheme is proposed to coordinate the control of EPAS and ESP systems. An integrated ESP & ESP HiL/RCP system including the real EPAS and Electro Hydraulic Brake (EHB) smart actuators integrated with a virtual vehicle model (using CarMaker/HiL®) with driver in the loop capability is designed and utilised as a rapid control development platform to verify and validate the developed control systems in real time environment. Integrated Vehicle Dynamic Control is one of the most promising and challenging research and development topics. A general architecture and control logic of the IVDC system based on a modular and reconfigurable control allocation scheme for redundant systems is presented in this research. The proposed fault tolerant configuration is applicable for not only integrated control of EPAS and ESP system but also for integration of other types of the vehicle active systems which could be the subject of future works.

Abstract (sommario):
The control and protection system of early nuclear power plants (Generation II) have been designed and built on the then reliable analog system. Technology has evolved in recent times and digital system has replaced most analog technology in most industries. Due to safety precautions and robust licensing requirements in the nuclear industry, the analog and digital system works concurrent to each other in most control and protection systems of nuclear power plants. Due to the ageing, regular maintenance and intermittent operation, the analog plant system often gives faulty signals. The objective of this thesis is to simulate a transient using a simulator to reduce the effects of system faults on the nuclear plant control and protection system, by detecting the faults early. The following steps will be performed: • validating the simulator measurements by simulating a normal operation, • detecting faults early on in the system These can be performed by resorting to a model that generates estimates of the correct sensors signal values based on actual readings and correlations among them. The next step can be performed by a fault detection module which determines early whether or not the plant systems are behaving normally and detects the fault. (Baraldi P. et al, 2010.)

Abstract (sommario):
The control of Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system is a challengingproblem due to the multiple objectives and the need of several pieces of information to implement the control. The control objectives are to generate assist torque with fast responses to driver’s torque commands, insure system stability, attenuate vibrations, transmit the road information to the driver, and improve the steering wheel returnability and free control performance. The control must also be robust against modeling errors and parameter uncertainties. In addition, several pieces of information are required to implement the control, such as steering wheel angle, motor velocity, driver torque and road reaction torque

Abstract (sommario):
The general focus of the proposed chapter is to describe a complex yet transparent solution for advanced simulation analysis of urban electric vehicles propulsion unit. As general rule, precise and realistic results are obtained only when performing real-time simulations, engaging dedicated software for such applications. Hence, simulation of an electric vehicle as a complete solution can become rather difficult. The authors targeted advanced analysis of the propulsion unit, including the motor, the battery, the power converter, and its control. These are designed using multilevel models in Matlab/Simulink, referring to different complexity levels of each assembly. Another feature of the models is their organization, based on Energetic Macroscopic Representation (EMR), this easing the process of inter-connecting models correctly. Nevertheless, the mechanical, aerodynamical and road profile details are included using Amesim Software. All the simulations are performed on a real-time target, using a National Instruments PXIe embedded controller. The latter runs NI VeriStand software, allowing real-time communication between Amesim and Simulink offering in the same time possibility to read/write analog/digital IOs for external communication. This feature in fact is used when passing from modeling to Hardware in the Loop (HIL) analysis, replacing the simulated assembly with the actual one.

Abstract (sommario):
Under the influence of environmental issues and energy crises, wind and solar power generation technologies have developed rapidly. Compared with terrestrial micro-grid, this technology has relatively few applications on ships. Aiming at the problems of low energy utilization rate of ship micro-grid, imperfect control strategy, and single simulation situation, this paper uses the construction method of terrestrial micro-grid to build a detailed ship micro-grid model based on wind and solar power generation technology on the MATLAB/simulink simulation platform, and uses hill climbing search Method and disturbance observation method to control wind and photovoltaic power generation system. In the simulation process, several situations of wind speed, light intensity, and load sudden changes during the operation of the micro-grid were simulated. The simulation results show that the micro-grid model can track the maximum power point in real time, and the wind energy utilization rate is increased to 0.48, and the bus voltage and current are equal. The actual operation requirements are met, and the correctness and effectiveness of the simulation model and control strategy are verified, which is helpful to the in-depth study of the construction of the ship micro-grid model.

Abstract (sommario):
This work explores the potential of Music-Inspired Harmony Search (MIHS), meta-heuristic technique, in the area of power system for Generator Maintenance Scheduling (GMS). MIHS has been used to generate optimal preventive maintenance schedule for generators to maintain reliable and economical power system operation taking into account the maintenance window, load and crew constraints. The robustness of the algorithm has been evaluated for five different case studies: 8-units test system, 13-units test system, 21-units test system, 62-units test system, and 136-units test system of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Pakistan. As per previous practice, WAPDA used to use manual scheduling based on hit-and-trial. The simulations have been carried out in MATLAB®. Based on its comparison with Genetic Algorithm (GA), it has been found that MIHS has fast convergence rate and optimal schedule for all the test systems satisfying the stated constraints.

Abstract (sommario):
In this chapter, an intelligent algorithmic tuning technique suitable for real-time system tuning based on hill climbing optimization algorithm and model reference adaptive control (MRAC) system technique is proposed. Although many adaptive control tuning methodologies depend partially or completely on online plant system identification, the proposed method uses only the model that is used to design the original controller, leading to simplified calculations that do not require neither high processing power nor long processing time, as opposed to identification technique calculations. Additionally, a modified hill climbing algorithm that is developed in this research is specifically designed, configured and tailored for the automatic tuning of control systems. The modified hill climbing algorithm uses a systematic movement when searching for new solution candidates. The algorithm measures the quality of the solution candidate based on error function. The error function is generated by comparing the system response with a desired reference response. The algorithm tests new solution candidates using step signals iteratively. The results showed the algorithm effectiveness to drive the system response. The simulation results illustrate that the method schemes proposed in this study show a viable and versatile solution to deal with controller tuning for systems with model inaccuracies as well as controller real-time calibration problem.

Abstract (sommario):
Modelling of tsunami wave propagation plays a vital role in forecasting of disastrous tsunami. The earlier identification and prediction of tsunami provides more time for taking preventive measures and evacuation. On December 26, 2004, massive destruction of lives and properties due to tsunami increases the needs to develop a fast and accurate modelling of tsunami wave propagation. The modelling of waves provide the amplitude of tsunami, speed, arrival time and power of the wall of water and also run up distance and height. It also used to predict vulnerable buildings to tsunami. In this paper describes the modelling of tsunami wave propagation from generation to run-up. Numerical and analytical methods used for modelling and simulation. Tsunami is serious of wave (wave train) which has a long wavelength >500 km and celerity of wave more than 800 km/hr in deep ocean and in shallow coast, their wavelength and celerity diminishes but the amplitude of wave increases above 30m. The scope of this study is to determine the areas which are going to hit by tsunami, amplitude of wave and their arrival time for early forecasting and alert the people within a short time after an earthquake happened.

Abstract (sommario):
The Northwest Pacific and the South China Sea region are the birthplaces of most monsoon disturbances and tropical cyclones and are an important channel for the generation and transmission of water vapor. The Northwest Pacific plays a major role in regulating interdecadal and long-term changes in climate. China experiences the largest number of typhoon landfalls and the most destructive power affected by typhoons in the world. The hidden dangers of typhoon disasters are accelerating with the acceleration of urbanization, the rapid development of economic construction and global warming. The coastal cities are the most dynamic and affluent areas of China’s economic development. They are the strong magnetic field that attracts international capital in China, and are also the most densely populated areas and important port groups in China. Although these regions are highly developed, they are vulnerable to disasters. When typhoons hit, the economic losses and casualties caused by gale, heavy rain and storm surges were particularly serious. This chapter reviews the response of coastal ocean to tropical cyclones, included sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, storm surge simulation and extreme rainfall under the influence of tropical cyclones.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test setup used for studying the dynamics of an elastomer supported machine bed. The setup uses real elastomer dampers and modeled machine dynamics (process model) connected together via real-time interface. The HIL approach was chosen since the elastomers are a critical part of the system, however, determining their properties for engineering needs can be a challenging task. Accurate elastomer models include many parameters that can only be determined by experimentally, and even then their implementation for real-life applications is not always practical. Using real elastomers supports in the simulation removes uncertainties associated with classic elastomer models, while simulated process makes it possible to test different scenarios fast and with good repeatability. The process model includes a description of the machine body, a rotating unbalanced drive mechanism creating cyclic loading and external excitation forces acting on the machine. The method enables testing of machine bed supports in a realistic operating environment. A test rig was built for housing the elastomers incorporating a hydraulic actuator for producing the process movement. The hydraulic circuit was designed for good dynamic performance with predictive control to minimize delays in the real-time interface. It was found that the HIL-setup can provide fast and accurate information about the plant model behavior in different operating scenarios using the elastomer supports.

Abstract (sommario):
This paper presents a concept of pump HIL (Hardware-In the Loop) Simulation system for testing an electro-hydraulic pump of mid-class excavator. The pump HIL Simulation system integrates both the system analysis and the pump bench evaluation technique in order to enable the evaluation of the control performance of the pump during various operating condition with the entire excavator system. Hence, the analytical system model of the excavator is developed for calculating hydraulic load variation which applied to the pump during working cycle. To reflect the real dynamic characteristics of the pump, the pump in the system model is replaced with the real pump of the HIL test-bed. Moreover, linear controller is designed to test the discharge flow tracking performance of the pump and to validate the function of the HIL Simulation system. As a result, the proposed pump HIL Simulation system is verified and more effective for the advanced pump test-bed in the viewpoint of the performance evaluation.
